In thinking about the whole issue of how the pregnancy sickness/problem starts at conception (or so Juliet says she believes), I'm wondering if there is any reason to think that it's not a problem with the MEN on the island. Maybe it's in the jizz people.

Dayum,
that was weird. For the first half second or so of Morgan's call, i actually had a millisecond of thinking "wha...is that me"? wild - never had that happen before.

You both are too kind with your nice words - now if you'll excuse me I have to go call you two again as another TLI spoiler fan.

I haven't finished listening, but my line of the podcast so far is Kim's "A girl's gotta eat" when talking about Kate banging Sawyer. Hahaha.

I figured that Aimee wasn't from Arkansas. Seeing as how she has a rather west coast-like lack of accent. Sorry Aimee IN Little Rock. ;)

And I just love how annoyed Kim is at how she actually cares about the skater/jater nonsense. hahaha.

by the way Catch 22, according to Lost-Media.com , is a Charlie Episode!

I guess i cant trust those fools anymore!

ralph-, I believe Charlie's episode was originally planned for this week. For some reason it's been pushed back. That might be the cause of the confusion.
Kimberley, you are too good to us.
Spring Break this week- no responsibilities. I'll try to get started on the sound clips.

Goodwin was on Something to Talk About with Julia Roberts. He was pretty good-looking back in the day.
Pickett is on Drive. I think a guest.

Jordan said...

I concur with Steph. Kimberly, you are amazing. I can only imagine what you go through editing these mini-masterpieces. You do such a great job as well. Thank you so much. You are the coolest.

PalmerEldritch said...

steph! good call. i like the accent. very endearing. anyhow, methinks that Ben requested Sawyer and Kate for one reason only. he knew that Jack dug Kate and Sawyer dug Kate and that Kate dug Sawyer and Jack, so he took the thing that Jack was "emotionally invested in" (Kate) and used her and the in-cage bellybutton rubbing competition to push Jack into doing the surgery.

Dharmalars Ben did sound kind of weird. i guess now we know why he needs a Producer Ryan or an Engineer Kelly or Jeff. am i right?

Stephanie said...

Thanks palmer. My mind went blank as soon as I heard the ding.

I think Catch-22 is a hilarious book. Does that mean I have a crazy sense of humor like Ben?

memphish said...

Colin, I agree that Catch-22 had great LOL moments. My issues were that early on it was a little repetitive, then I got into it, and then at the end it was sad and depressing and yet still funny and ironically heroic. I guess it must have been a huge influence on Altman's movie MASH. It was definitely worth reading.

Holli

Jordan said...

I can agree with you Holli about the beginning being a bit slow. I started reading it about a year ago and made it about 50 pages in. Now I'm super ADD man when it comes to reading books, so I put in on the shelf and haven't got back to it since. I'm always telling myself to continue it, but just never find the time. All this talk here about it might be the boost I need to get back on the ball.

hey guys and gals! you can make it so that only administrators can create threads on proboards! under admin, create board, at the bottom of the page, it has something like board settings, where you can say - create thread. click on the arrow thingy. it brings down a list of things. they say - everyone, registered members only, or administrators. something like that. as far as requesting new threads, you can pm the administrators, or create a sub board for suggestions. to give in my two cents, i would visit a lot more if it was in this form. not quite blogspot, not quite bulleting board. the best of both worlds. just like hermaphrodites! yaaay!

Kim & Aimee - Thanks for the shout out, and the premiere edition of TLI MBK.

I liked how you girls gave each other some hard ones right from the start. That's just how I would have played it myself.

So in the spirit of fan interaction, which btw is what I think makes your podcast the best LOST podcast out there (with Dharmalars being a CLOSE second), I'd like to pose a Marry / Bang / Kill scenario to the blogspotters out there.

For the ladies:
Of the following three men, which one would you Marry / Bang / Kill? And why?
Jin / Hugo / Desmond

and for the guys:
Libby / Shannon / Ana Lucia (sure, it's kind of morbid, but wtf...)

K/A

Great podcast. I agree and have said since season 1 that Jack is a tin pot dictator.

Zach

PalmerEldritch said...

DA, that's a thinker.

Shannon is teh hawt so she has to be the Marry or the Bang. But she's a beeyotch so that edges her out to the Bang category. Libby is the nicest one so even though she dusna do much for me in the looks department, she might be the best person to marry and grow old and need replacement hips with. AnaLuLu was an @$$hole which nominates her for the K.

But, if one married Shannon then you would presumably get to bang her more than once. So, depending how shallow I was feeling...

Compromising for the "rest of your life" factor

Libby M
Shannon B
AnaLuLu K

or if we're basing it on the base instincts

Shannon M
AnaLuLu B
Libby K

Anonymous said...

I like your thoughtful answer, Palmer. And I suppose I was a bit remiss in not offering my answer to the same query, so here goes:

This one is actually kind of easy (in my mind).

I'll start with the Kill: Shannon. Yeah, she was kind of hot, but for me she was completely worthless for even a bang, much less, a longer term commitment such as a marriage. Plus, spoiled little hot girls like that are really unlikely to be worth a damn in the rack either.

Which leads me to the next category, bang: Libby. Libby was attractive, but not so much that she was conceited about it, plus she was apparently crazier than a shithouse rat. And if there's one thing that college taught me (besides of course my major) it's that crazy girls are a lot of damn fun.

So that of course leads us to the Marry category, and for this round, it would be Ana Lucia. This is more a process of elimination than a real desire to get with A.L. long term. Since I obviously couldn't choose Shannon for this, and while Libby might be fun for a short while, crazy gets old pretty damn quick. Plus, you have to like a girl that could probably kick your ass if she had to.

That was fun.

Just too goddamn funny K&A -

Hey, I had a thought ('surely, you jest MB!') maybe its time to fuse your names for lazy typers like we do for Cuseloff - what about Aimberly? (joke - I like typing K&A)

Also, do people really think Juliet's boobs are that crazy big and/or impressive? They don't rock my world - and some boobs can.

And I totally forgot to thank the caller from North Carolina (whose name I can't quite make out) - very kind words.

Anonymous said...

mb, I'm with you. There's just nothing spectacular, or even mildly impressive about Juliet. boobs or otherwise. she's just really, extra... plain-looking.

so how she got to do a nude lesbian scene with Angelina Jolie is TOTALLY beyond my comprehension. but that's a topic for some other conversation...

Anonymous said...

and speaking of women linked to Brad Pitt, that gives me another idea for MBK...

Gwyneth Paltrow / Jennifer Anniston / Angelina Jolie

ladies, feel free to join in this one if you like ;-) I'm sure Palmer would appreciate it.

Robert said...

Mitchell and Jolie were about 10 years younger when "Gia" was made.

Jordan said...

Screw Ana Lucia, Marry Libby, Kill Shannon.

First off Marrying Libby is simple. She's nice, not bad looking, and seems easy to get along with. Ana Lucia and Shannon, not so much. So that would lead to who would I rather bang, and I just can't stand Shannon and I'm sure she'd be lame in the sack for some reason. Pretty girls who are all into themselves usually are. Ana Lucia seems like she'd be fiesty. Plus maybe Kristina Loeken would tag along.

mb said...

MBK scenario #1 - Libby, Shannnon, Ana Lu

Marry Libby - no brainer for me - nice looking and decent personality - I can handle her having done time in the psych ward (perhaps I'm naiive)

Bang Ana - she's tough - but I like tough beeyotch
way more than just beeyotch - and I just think she's hotter.

Kill Shannon - because 1 episode of sympathy cannot make up for a season+ of severely annoying behavior that made me wonder why someone hadn't off-ed her already.

mb said...

MBK Scenario #2 - Gwyneth Paltrow / Jennifer Anniston / Angelina Jolie:

Bang AND marry Angelina (in whatever order) - so that there may be more banging

But Jen and Gwynneth....hmmm, tough. Can't I just be like the Godfather and say they're dead TO ME?

They shouldn't die - but Angelina's just got such an edge over both of them.

Mr. Friendly is from Mississippi. Interesting.

Robert said...

OK, I'll play.
Marry......Kate, no question
Bang.......Shannon, only once with absolutely NO talking
Kill.......Anna Lucia, bad, really fake teeth, lesbian (not that there's anything wrong with that), and she just seems dirty to me.

...and SHUN... Aimee until she admits that Kate really loves Jack and Sawyer doesn't have a noble "bone" in his body. All this talk about Jack being a jerk. If being a jerk includes saving lives, risking yours' to help others, and generally taking care of everyone, then sign me up. Yes, I have a man-crush on Jack, but I really just want to get in good with those 3 sisters of his, Neve Campbell, JL Hewitt, and Lacey Chabert. :)

Stephanie said...

Jin/ Hugo/ Desmond

This is hard because I can't decide who to kill. I love all three. I guess that's the point.
Marry Hugo.
Bang Desmond.
Kill Jin since he can't speak English. That's the only reason I can come up with.

memphish said...

I hate to say this but,

Marry Desmond - he's cute and resourceful and he can be bossed around. After pushing that button for 3 year, getting him to take out the garbage and changed the burned out light bulbs would be a piece of cake.

Bang Jin - because he's clearly been pumping iron, but if he's your husband he'd force you to have unsightly tan lines, and I don't speak Korean or have the patience to teach him English.

Which leaves kill Hugo which is sad, but I don't want to sleep with Hugo.

PalmerEldritch said...

Jennifer Aniston, Gwyneth Paltrow, or Angelina Jolie?

Not leaving me with many options. Gwyneth is on my list of World's Most Annoying People. Angelina made out with her brother in public, used to carry around Billy Bob's blood in a vial around her neck, and has generally descended from attractive to a parody of herself. And don't get me started on her self-aggrandizing menagerie of children-folk. And Anniston is pretty annoying too. Ack. But, I remember her being hot in the beginning of Friends...

Hmmm...

Kill Gwyneth so I don't have to hear her whine (and so I don't end up with kids named Apple).
Bang Angelina (but wear a Banana Leaf Johnny).
Marry Jennifer cuz she's the lesser of three Weevils.

Great unabridged podcast this week. My highlights - good Others section, MBK and, of course, the now infamous Skater/ Jater Ruckus - I was laughing my ass off on the commute this morning and all these boring fuckin' suits were staring.

MB - all I allow myself to listen to of the spoilers is the opening banter with your mac, but it's worth it.

If we haven't played this name generator before, it's worth a go:

OMG, what a funny episode, but I'm never doing that again! I just listened to the entire cast beginning to end, it's just too much. I feel like a complete tool about the whole Jater v. Skater segment--I obviously have an invested interest--WHY!?!? Maybe it's that I enjoy to 'debate' Keeps the brain workin'

MBK for the ladies: This was a tough one. At first I had, Marry Hurley, Bang Jin, Kill Desmond...but I'm changing it to...

Marry Jin. I think I could learn Korean and teach English, it would be a challenge and a great way to kill time waiting around to be rescued--besides, have you seen Jin lately?!?!

Bang Desmond. He's hot, and can hold his liquor.

Process of eliminatioin, Kill Hurley :( By accident, of course!

#1:
Marry: Libby -- she's kinda cute, and seems easy to get along with. Yeah, crazy, but I can work with that.
Kill: Shannon -- smoking hot, but incredibly bitchy and annoying, and looks like she'd be about as exciting as a dead fish in the sack.
Bang: AL -- not smoking, but still hot. Also incredibly annoying and bitchy, but looks like she'd be a blast in bed. Plus, lesbian, so maybe she'd bring her GF along.

#2: A lot tougher than I thought, because Angelina seemed like the obvious bang choice, at least at first. But I can't imagine marrying either Jen or Gwyneth ... there's something incredibly annoying about both of them. And Angelina seems to have developed into a genuinely decent human being who's maybe left that real craziness in the past, and, I assume that if I married her, I'd get at least some sex ... and there's no doubt in my mind that it'd be wild. There's gotta be something to her beyond sex appeal to get Brad Pitt to follow her all around like a puppy dog. So...
Marry: Angelina
Bang: Jen -- I think that she'd be a big snooze in the sack, but damn she's hot.
Kill: Gwyneth -- in my mind, there's nothing appealing about her.

um... kim, you know i dig your radio voice like all get out but two hours of TLI goodness every week might be a bit too much. i definitely appreciated that you broke it into two chunks. that helped out.

if the show organically ends up going uber long every couple of weeks, that's ok. but please don't feel any pressure to make a six hour podcast. :)

Jordan said...

Palmer is right. If it goes long on it's own, simply because you guys have too much good stuff to say, then it's cool. Otherwise it's just lame for you guys as well as the listeners. Although I myself could probably listen to you two babble about anything for a good while.

Alright, I'm taking the bait.

Marry Libby....I always said she was hot, plus crazy usually means good in the sack. Nice eyes.

Bang Ana Lucia...everyone knows I had a thing for her

Kill Shannon...sadly. Because she is really, really attractive, but I just get the feeling Maggie Grace would be a bore.

Gwyneth/Jennifer/Angelina

Have any of you ever realized that at the end of the day, Angelina Jolie is really disappointing naked? Really...me and other male friends have said this often. Thoughts welcome.

Jennifer Aniston has a really, really nice body, and may even be a nice person?

So Marry Jen, Bang Angelina, Kill Gwyneth (after Shakespeare in Love, her cuteness faded. Plus the whole Chris Martin factor)

Ralph- said...

Marry - Libby
Bang- Shannon
KILL- Ana Lucia

Marry - Aniston (because of who my father in law would be)
Bang - Jolie (hotness)
Kill - Gwenneth ( i loved her in tennenbaums, but i could never have a kid named Apple Apel)

Benjamin said...

Ralph just wants to be the heir to the Kiriakis fortune, and I can't blame him. If I had a chance to marry Stefano's daughter, I would take that too.

Kill AL. The chip on her shoulder can be seen from orbit, and she's a liability.

Bang Shannon. She's hot, and she's used her sex to get things for long enough that I imagine she'd be pretty amazing, but she's annoying (at least until near the end when she was trying to grow up, and at the beginning before she got screwed by her father's death) and I wouldn't want to be around her longer than three minutes. (joke intended)

Marry Libby. She's got style and grace and good looks. However...looney bin. But marrying a looney might be pretty entertaining.

Kill Gwenneth, but only by process of elimination, because she seems like a sweet kid.

Marry Jen, because she's hot, rich, and funny, whereas Angelina is only two out of three.

Bang Angelina, because she's hot, but also for the spur points.

Oh, and Mike...you're correct. We owe you a broom. :(

- i'm not very invested in my theory that Charlie was working for BenCo. pre-flight 815. I definitely don't think the writers had it in mind during the 1st season, but it could be retconned very easily and would make his character a LOT more interesting. I'm still wrestling with the fact that i want BenCo., Dharma, or the island to have planned the 815 crash but can't come up with a plausible method.

-*Flashback order Spoilers*- I keep hearing/reading disparate reports on the flashbacks for the rest of the season. I was really looking forward to the Dharma flashbacks, hoping they'd be Degroots flashbacks, but now it seems that they'll actually be Ben flashbacks pre-flight 815 which doesn't sound as fun.

8) I Can See Clearly Now, Jimmy Cliff
9) Eep Opp Ork Ah-Ah (Means I Love You), Violent Femmes
10) The Most Wonderful Time of the Year, Perry Como (sigh ... don't think the others are bad, but that last one's pretty embarassing)

This should tell you all a little too much about me.

1. Cry of the Wind - Enaid and Einalem; Celtic Nights
I'm kinda into the whole Celtic music thing, so I have a couple of albums I've picked up here and there. This track starts a very soft and sweet vocals and piano piece that is played over the sounds of a surf for some reason. Can't say for sure if I've heard it before, but it's very soothing. Too soothing for an afternoon at work. But then it heats up with some slow drums for about six seconds. Oh, and the picture I attached to the album as shown on my iPod is me in my Renaissance Highlander outfit from Faire. Ouch. Glad to get the embarassing stuff out of the way first, I guess.

2. Let's Do This - Dane Cook; Retaliation: Need. Hey, Dane Cook makes me laugh. I know some of my favorite comedians seem to look down on him, but he gives me the giggles. This particular track is about boners and using them to catapult cashews. Not much better for work, I guess. Oh and it ends with a solid minute of applause. Good for him and everything, but not appropriate for shuffle.

3. Just That Kinda Day - The New Main Street Singers; A Mighty Wind. This song playing makes me happy we're doing this. And makes me happy I woke up today. I love this movie, and this song is just so sincere and hilarious and peppy. Thanks Jane Lynch, John Michael Higgins, Parker Posey, and the rest...thanelynchjohnmichaelhigginsparkerposeyandtherest. Oh, and I don't know much about music theory, but the key change, or whatever, at the end is beautifully funny.

4. Say Something - James; James, Best Of. I'm not very familiar with this band, but this gives me a chance to show how I renamed a bunch of albums to alphabetize them more correctly. I have a bunch of music on here that I can't vouch for, but I put there in case I need it. This song's pretty sweet, I'm discovering.

5. Sleepy Dragon - Giorgio Moroder; The Never Ending Story. I just got this score this weekend, so this is my first time listening to it. So tight. I wonder if Stevi hates it because of the out-of-place electric guitar. Or if the guitar is put in its place because it's such an eighties movie. I wonder.

6. One Chance - Modest Mouse; Good News for People Who Love Bad News. This song sounds pretty cool, I guess. I always say Modest Mice, because that's how Liam Neeson introduced them on SNL, with his accent.

7. It's Called a Heart - Depeche Mode; Catching up with Depeche Mode. Whereas I don't know this specific song, it sounds like classic DM. Awesome.

8. The End - The Beatles; Abbey Road. Wow, this song is so much better in context of the album. But it's still kick ass. And Ringo's only drum solo in the Beatles catalog, unless I'm wrong. And Chris Farley asked Sir Paul McCartney about it on the Chris Farley show.

9. I Cried For You - Billie Holiday; Billie Holiday - Greatest Hits. It's a fun little jazzy tune, with a bit of a lyrical edge. I guess I can see why Becky likes her so much.

10. Inward Singing - Tenacious D; Tenacious D. Whereas I'm stoked that the D made it on this list, this is one of the spoken comedy tracks. Still, it's a really good one. It features the oft paraphrased lines where JB yells at Kyle for always naysaying, and sitting in his tower. "Fuckin' cock ass!"

Well, that was a marthon post.

Pissed Jeans "Don't Need Smoke To Make Myself Disappear" - Recent, snotty hardcore from Allentown PA. They're all about complete abandon, which is very appararent at their live shows, but also gives their recorded stuff a dangerous edge

Iris Dement "Sweet Forgiveness" - I love Iris Dement. She's one of those country singers whose voice might not be the most polished but she trumps everyone with heart and great song writing. I don't like a lot of country music, but when it's on it's on.

Elf Power "Face In the Sand" - Indie-rock track off of the Unicorn Mountain Vol. 2 CD. Unicorn Mountain is a totally awesome independent comic book anthology and music compilation coming out of Pittsburgh. www.unicornmountain.com i was supposed to do stuff for Vol.2 but life got in the way. I did do some artwork for the Wolfman's Got Nards book and I'm currently working on stuff for Vol. 3.

Dangerdoom "Sofa King (Remix)" - Dangerdoom = producer Danger Mouse and MC MF Doom. I'm not that big of a Danger Mouse fan, but MF Doom has been one of my top 10 MC's since he was Zev Luv X from KMD. The Dangerdoom project is pretty good though, and somehow the fact that it's a weird Cartoon Network marketing tool works for it. Still, KMD is so fucking good.

Seu Jorge "Five Years" - Track from the Life Aquatic Soundtrack. That movie was so note perfect for what it was trying to be. I could watch it endlessly. Seu Jorge playing accoustic covers of Bowie fit it to a tee.

Tommy McCook "Green Mango" - Tommy McCook was the tenor saxophonist and one of the leaders of the Skatalites. They basically perfected Ska and made some of the funkiest music ever.

Hot New Mexicans "Being Caught" - One of my favorite albums from the past few years. The Hot New Mexicans are a pop-punk band from Athens Georgia. I got hip to them through their association with Plan-It-X Records and PIX-fest which i got hip to through This Bike Is A Pipebomb, which is another fantastic pop-punk band.

Silkworm "There Is A Party In Warsaw Tonight" - This is from their album "Libertine" which is one of my favorite Indie-Rock albums, and i'm not that big of a fan of the genre. That record is a solid album from beginning to end. After "Libertine" Joel RL Phelps left the group and i didn't like any of their material after that. Luckily Joel RL Phelps started a solo career and has released some of the best music i've ever heard.

The Mummies "Big Boy Pete" - The Mummies were a great garage-punk band. I never really followed the genre too closely but The Mummies had a really strong shtick (wrapping themselves from head-to-toe in toilet paper for every show) and the song-writing to back it up. They also pushed the arrogant rockstar personality thing which has its charms, especially as a contrast for the eyes-down/humble/shy attitude of a lot of the bands i listen to.

Bahamadia "Wordplay" MC/DJ from Philly. Bahamadia's album "Kollage" produced largely by DJ Premier is one of my favorites and completely slept on. She's got an amazing voice, a flow that could challenge any MC regardless of gender, and she writes her rhymes from the perspective of an honest 3-dimensional person. She's still around, putting out albums on the D/L (almost literally, her last album was CD-only from Australia) and she's still got it, but the beats by DJ Premier are sorely missed.

a pretty good shuffle. not entirely indicative of what i'm listening to these days (more jazz, hiphop, and downtempo stuff) but nothing embarassing at all.

Trevor, My grandfather had a Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass 8-Track tape that I remember listening to as a kid. I'm really dating myself now, but I used to love listening to it. It is happy music.

No one has had a truly cringe-worthy song yet (unless you guys cringed at one of mine and were too polite to mention it.) I wish there was a way to take Xmas music out of the shuffle automatically by date. No Xmas music allowed except between Thanksgiving and the day after Xmas. My son still wants me to play "I Want a Hippopatomus for Xmas" on the way to school every day.

There's quite a few novelty songs and 80s movie soundtrack hits that I avoided mercifully.

Weird Science theme would have done it. Or Walter Brennan - Old Rivers...

Anonymous said...

Memphish, if you create a Smart Playlist, you can put on it every genre that's NOT Christmas or holiday, and just play that randomly instead of shuffling everything. That's what I do, at least ... but that wasn't the rule of the game!

Anonymous said...

Oops, just read your comment a little bit more closely ... you're right, an automatic 'Stop playing Christmas songs after Christmas' feature would be nice. Of course, around here, we start hearing christmas songs on the radio after Halloween...

Anonymous said...

-stocking Xmas stuff at Easter does seem like the next logical step. The summer doesn't have enough holidays, and, if it's possible, Independence Day junk is too tacky.

-i love Oingo Boingo, so "Weird Science" could never be embarassing.

-Never Ending Story is totally an 80's movie, and how else are you going to capture that flying through the clouds on a dragon-dog sound without a screaming guitar?

-good lists so far, nothing to be ashamed of on the blogspot.

I'm up for this - cool game (god knows what this is going to look like):

1) UNWELL - Matchbox 20 (More Than You Think That You Are): really got into these guys w/the "Mad Season" CD. Wasn't as into "More Than You Think..." but it grows on me. Despite getting a bit overplayed, I generally dig most things Rob Thomas puts out (musically.....musically people)

2) ENGLISHMAN IN NEW YORK - (Nothing Like the Sun): Sting has been in my life through a lot of shit

3) WHEN THE WAR CAME - The Decemberists (The Crane Wife) - Just got this CD and am totally digging it. Portland band that sounds like they arrived from the Emerald Isle.

4) DIG IT - The Beatles (Let it Be) - Segue track on an album which generally gets overshadowed by the masterpiece that is Abbey Road. I have listened to the Beatles since I was 4 or 5 and they are easily my favorite band over my lifetime. Let it Be has it's share of gems.

5) LITTLE GENIE - Elton John (Billboard Top Hits: 1980) - OK, the only reason it's in here is because I bought like 6 Billboard 80's CDs ('80-'85) one day in trying to prep a "Name that 80s tune" game for a party we were having. I was going to return them after the party and then the Devil spoke and told me to succumb to my need to relive High School in my mind.

6) SUCH A SHAME - The Thorns (The Thorns): Catchy tunes with pretty awesome vocal harmony from Pete Droge, Shawn Mullins, and Matthew Sweet. Heard it on the radio - bought it.

7) YOUR MOTHER SHOULD KNOW - Beatles (Anthology 2) - I figured I might get more than one Beatles track here - got a lot of 'em. The Anthology albums are pretty nice - mostly alternate tracks of well known stuff, which I get into.

8) THE TOWER THAT ATE PEOPLE - Peter Gabriel (Hit): Another huge musician for me. EVERY time I have seen him live, has been the best concert I had/have ever seen to date.

9) I SAW HER STANDING THERE - Beatles (Anthology 1): ...Yeah....you get that I'm into them right?

10) MISSISSIPPI - Paula Cole (This Fire): (I had to do the little song in my head from gradeschool to make sure I spelled that right) :)
Love this woman - REALLY like her first album (Harbinger). While I don't tend to listen to This Fire as much, she did some really compelling things on it which pushed the music to the next level I think.

11) ONE WINTER'S NIGHT - Strength in Numbers (The Telluride Sessions): OK - I went to 11... I love Spinal Tap.
These guys are the SHIT if you like bluegrass/Newgrass revival (Just found out via google that there is also a New Jersey Metal band by the same name). Sam Bush, Bela Fleck, Edgar Meyer, Mark O'Connor, Jerry Douglas are all masters at their respective instruments and also, apparently, excellent collaborators. Why, oh why did they only produce one album.....

Jimmy,

I've a request. You always mention the name and the artist of the songs you play in the background during your segments but never write it down for us. Most of the time, I have a few questions on how to spell the song title or artist! Could you post the titles and whatnot?

PalmerEldritch said...

Ah-hem...

Ghostbusters - Ray Parker Jr
Ghostbusters is a great movie and who doesn't love a guy that rips off music from Huey Lewis. Am I right?

Rock the Casbah - The Clash
It's Rock the Casbah, need I anymore explanation?

No Quarter - Led Zeppelin
Don't have an anecdote (amusing or otherwise for this one). Everybody likes Zeppelin and so do I.

Lights - Journey
Family Guy. Karaoke. Checked out a crapload of nostalgic Journey music after that episode.

What Have You Done - William Shatner
Creepy ass spoken word piece about finding his 3rd (4th?) wife dead in his pool. Yeah... But it's William Shatner so I had to get the album. Not a bad album either, especially if you like Shatner or (album producer) Ben Folds.

We Are The Champions - Queen
"I am the champions." My brother went through a Queen phase in high school. And who doesn't love Mercury's mustache?

Just A Ride - Jem
Girlfriend music.

Blue Moon - Elvis Presley
It's Elvis, damnit. Who doesn't love The King?

Alone - Dead Can Dance
Went through a period where I got my hands on anything sung by Lisa Gerrard after I saw "Gladiator." As I understand it, Hans Zimmer sucks but Lisa Gerrard can sing something fierce.

Big Empty - Stone Temple Pilots
Fantastic song and I believe I've been a huge fan of the song since "The Crow" soundtrack.

That random smattering of songs is highly unrepresentative. I actually checked out and enjoyed a lot of the bands that Craig, Dylan, and Ryan used to play in the background of the SAS. What was the podcast that Craig always recommended for new music?

I finished The Wizard of Oz and not to spoil anyone, but it doesn't end like the movie does. And Ben is so Wizard-like giving people what they think they want. He gives the Scarecrow "bran" new brains by stuffing his head with bran instead of plain straw. At least he's honest about being a humbug unlike a certain bug-eyed bastard I could name.

'Handbags and Gladrags' by Big George is the UK Office theme.

Sir William Osler, MD said...

The song was originally "Handbags and Gladrags" by Rod Stewart. However, Ricky Gervais couldn't afford the rights to that one, so he tried to get the version by Steriophonics. He couldn't afford the rights to that either, so they had Big George record his own version.

Surprisingly enough, I didn't have to look any of that up. I knew it'd come in handy some day.

Sir William Osler, MD said...

Stereophonics. Spelled that wrong. And Big George didn't actually sing it, he just arranged it.

I'm self-correcting like there's no tomorrow, Palmer.

This is a pretty cool little game. I don't have time right now to do reviews, but here's my list. Before I list it, I am one of those people who has to have entire albums, not just select songs. So I got 8,295 songs right now on my ipod. So it really could be anything.

1 - Raising Hell - Run RMC
2 - Pasties and a G-String - Tom Waits
3 - On the Outside - No Use For A Name
4 - Avenues & Alleyways - Rancid
5 - Beaten to the Punch - Elvis Costello
6 - Down On Haley - Nerf Herder
7 - Sucka Nigga - A Tribe Called Quest
8 - You Don't Know Me - Ray Charles
9 - Country Boy - Muddy Waters
10- Joy - Talib Kweli

I'll do an actual one with reviews after work. Cool idea whoever mentioned this.

And if my list of 10 songs was less than embarrassing, the next song that played was, "Neutron Dance" by the Pointer Sisters from the Beverly Hills Cop soundtrack. lol.

Sir William Osler, MD said...

I listened to the Drunkcast last night and it was hilarious. Aimee was fiesty to say the least. I have also had a few adult beverages in OKC as I went to undergrad at OSU and spent many weekends with pals in "The City," Of course, I again will date myself by mentioning that there was no 'liquor by the drink' in those days. You brought your own booze and the club provided the set-ups, which in my case was water. Dewars and water.....Yumm....

I know we've already had a couple of generator's this week, but I think this Superhero Generator may be apropos of tonight's episode.

My Superhero Identity is Silver Dancer
Special Power: Psychotronic Spear
Transportation: Nuclear Jet
Weapon: Lightning Carbine
Costume: String Snow Suit
Sidekick: Caruthers
Nemesis: Marvin the Unspeakable
Tragic Flaw: Fear of heights
Favorite Food: Spaghetti

Now if someone can tell me what a psychotronic spear and a string snow suit are I'll be in business. I also don't understand how I travel by jet with my fear of heights. My lightning carbine sounds sweet though, and I think I'll have spaghetti for dinner tonight.

Silver Dancer
Don't tell anyone that it's really Holli

My super hero identity is... an article about LOST on EW.com? Hmm...

Holli, a psychotronic spear is (obviously) a spear partially controlled by your mind that is crackling with electricity. Caruthers uses ether to knock you out so you can travel in your Nuclear Jet. And a string snow suit is a string bikini made of snow suit material to keep you warm. It may also consist of an hoodie thing like an Eskimo might wear and large furry boots.

Don't worry though, all superheroes are in fabulous shape so the outfit looks great.

Steph, now I have to go listen to "Hallelujah" on my iPod. I've had it stuck in my head since you posted.

Hi everyone, the name's actually Steve (well, technically it's Steven but the "n" seems to have lost the importance as I've got older). I'm on the myspace friends list but thought I'd pay a visit here and this is bit scary, first time on the blog - love the podcast btw - and here I am revealing my lack of musical taste to one and all..

Okay, so I've hit shuffle on my ipod and ....

1) Wake it up - Goodbye Mister Mackenzie
2) I will follow - U2
3) The battle of evermore - Led Zeppelin
4) beautiful people - Terry Hall
5) Complicated (Acoustic) - Avril lavigne
6) Music box - The cooper temple cause
7) Calling all destroyers - Rachel Stamp
8) Raindrops keep falling on my head - Manic Street Preachers
9) Falling (Twin Peaks Theme) - Angelo Badalamenti
10) Acapulco - Weezer

And that's why I don't hit shuffle too often (if I do I tend to skip quite alot) - 4326 songs and most of them will never be played!

As for the Marry / Bang / Kill scenario

Marry: Libby - Anyone who can afford to give away a boat has got to be worth considering for a marriage - despite the fact she's obviously bonkers.
Bang: Ana Lucia - although I wouldn't want to get on the wrong side of her...
Kill: Shannon; reasons ... all superficial - just not my type

But if the choice was Kate, Sun, Claire - well, I've subconciously put them in order as I typed.

Anyways, that's my lot for today. LOST is on tonight - in the UK - and I tend to avoid all spoilers and trailers before each episode so I'll pop back tonight and find out what y'all thought about the latest episode.

See you in another life

Steve
