yeah, its a little early, but the way we have been talking lost, might as well post as much as we can. i have a feeling that we will get more threads on this episode before i can post the next 'Lars episode. YAYY!! lost.

memphish said...

The giraffe will be left behind. See my FB post last thread if you don't get it.

memphish said...

Ralph, the photo for this thread isn't loading for me. Is it me? I'm sure it's me.

Holli

P.S. Still singing Rump Shaker.

#4

the numbers have begun

elias said...

yep no photo - any guesses what it is?

it's gotta be the Kuliet Jungle Ruckus

MB said...

Holli -
I can see the photo - it's Sun and Jin.

Anonymous said...

The photo also isn't loading for me either.

memphish said...

MB is special.

/8?

Also,

I don't think the Marshall and Kate had a romatic past physically. However, I do think they both got their jollies from the cat and mouse game I mentionned in the last post. The hunt is always bore exciting than the capture

I'm being enticed by spoilers for the season 3 flashback lineup. this is how irrational I get while waiting for Lost.

Jordan said...

So check this out. Me and some buddies recently joined an organized basketball rec league. And we were all randomly assigned jersey #'s. Guess what number I got? 42. Creepy huh?

The funniest thing about it was I didn't even think about the Lost connection at first. Just the fact that 42 used to be Vin Baker's # on the Sonics. He totally sucked balls.

MB said...

Holli - you're doubly special (8 = 4x2)

International-J said...

3 hours 16 minutes left, central standard time

MB said...

No worries Jordan - think of yourself as wearing the answer to the question of Life the Universe and Everything instead.
(i.e. Hitchhikers Guide ref. for those who haven't read it)

memphish said...

Thanks mb. My mom says I'm doubly special too.

The last two weeks we've speculated about jobs the FB characters would have. Have we ever seen Kate actually have a job? She worked the farm in Australia, pretended to be a photographer, and didn't do taco night. She was 20 something when she blew up Wayne and didn't go to college. What did Kate do?

Holli

memphish said...

Typing really fast to get 16 too.

Holli

MB said...

15 AND 16 - I think you win the numbers game already. Holli Velvet rocks.

MB said...

Good question - Holli. What's a profession (besides track athlete) that requires running - cause she's pretty good at that.

memphish said...

Or has no life mb.

Holli

memphish said...

It seems like the military would have been a good option for Kate, but I don't think she went that route. I'm guessing she hung around to take care of Mom given Wayne's brutal ways. Maybe she worked on a farm. I know Palmer hopes she was a jello wrestler. Could be. Pig slopper by day; jello wrestler by night.

Holli

International-J said...

Do you think she was a drifter before she was a criminal?

memphish said...

Or maybe a grifter JonJon? Like Annette Benning in the movie. Her schemes (except the bank robbery) never seem that well thought out though.

Holli

memphish said...

Much like Season 2 Locke, I haven't enjoyed Season 2 and 3A Kate as much as I liked Season 1 Kate, especially in her FBs. Still hope she takes out Juliet. Speaking of, you knock out the person you're handcuffed to. Then what? Drag her through the jungle?

Holli

International-J said...

Nah you just hit her enough until you make her carry you on her back.

elias said...

you make them gnaw through their arm

International-J said...

I don't think kate has any trouble getting out of handcuffs, so I'm not worrying too much.

Stephanie said...

Jamie, I lol'ed at your piece.

Andrew, speaking to fans, RDM doesn't sound like the prick he ususally does. I don't think I learned anything new from the Frak Party podcast. I'm kinda surprised at the people who are surprised that Tigh is a Cylon. To me,he's the one who's identity felt the least contrived.

I'm so disappointed there's no Officer Callis chasing his runnaway bride in this episode.

memphish said...

JonJon, Kate hasn't had much success slipping the cuffs this season. She couldn't get out of the ones Ben had her put on in Ep. 3.1 and while she got her arms from the back to the front in Ep. 3.13 she was still cuffed. In fact, I want to know how she got the cuffs off in the Pilot. In the Pilot episode we only see her unlock one hand and then grab the masks. Probably, she just held on to the key until later, but she still had one hand and the connection to her feet to undo and it doesn't seem from the Pilot and last week that anyone landed next to the things/people they were seated with.

Holli

MB said...

Holy crap Holli - you were #23 too. Now I'm feeling bad I took #4 - you could've had a shut-out!

International-J said...

There are still many mysteries that go unsolved about the actual crash, we've seen before and after, but never when it hit. The closest thing we got to something like that with in Another 48 Days. But there are just too many things to wonder about

memphish said...

Aimee, I've started Evil Under the Sun and noticed that Poirot is refusing to "course correct" the universe. Guess he's Mrs. Hawking.

Holli

memphish said...

MB, I waited to see if someone else would get 23, but as no one was taking it, I jumped in. I tried to at least provide content. Unlike this post.

Holli

Stephanie said...

Yeah, JonJon. How did they survive a 20,000 ft crash? Something else that's always bothered me- Charlie describes the Smokemonster as huge in the pilot. He doesn't see so big now.
Elias, are you a pro soccer player, uh, I mean football player or what? I mean your icon.

MB said...

I thought about that as well JonJon. It didn't look to me like anyone was wet, so did the fuselage break from the forward cabin and land smack on the beach? I wonder if they'll ever show it or if it's important.

memphish said...

Jorge called Jay and Jack one time about that point mb. He said that the when the plane broke up it was over the island and the Fusie section landed in the jungle, then the beach, landing just short of the water.

Holli

aimee is lost said...

Memphish, I know exactly what you mean. I thought he was kind of a dick because he saw it all coming and didn't do anything about it. Day ONE he shoulda gone up to her and say "Hey lady, someone here is DEFINITELY gonna kill you soon."

PalmerEldritch said...

The Marshall and Kate were in an amateur bowling league together. The Marshall knew she was wanted by the law but he also knew that she was the only way his team was going to get the league trophy.

fact.

MB said...

I gotta commute home now so I won't be here - but I'm visualizing you nabbing 42. you can do it!

memphish said...

But here's the thing that gets me. Why's Jack in the jungle, but Rose is on the beach? Why's Nikki at one end of the beach and Paolo the other? Why's Kate in the jungle and the Marshal presumably on the beach? Why can't Jin find Sun? Why can't Michael find Walt? Why is Shannon not with Boone? This is starting to make me agree with Handsome Jack's the crash was staged theory.

Holli

International-J said...

This might be a good time to introduce my Theory of Perpective. In my opinion, everyone has a different look at reality. The majority of the time everyone's perpective on reality overlap and become the true reality. Only in cases like: Jack's Dad, Kate's horse, Dave, creepy walt, or Sawyer's lack of seeing Nicki for 84 days. These perpectives of reality are caused by the island, and possibly the illness that dissapeared from the plot.

MB said...

okay I'll go home after this comment...
Holli - we did see the plane break up so a "staged" theory would mean that it was guided down maybe, or something? I dunno.

memphish said...

42! Mini-Kablamo?

Holli

International-J said...

Way to go Holli, now try to get 108

memphish said...

Maybe us seeing the plane break up in Season 2 and Season 3 was a lie? A master con on the viewers perhaps? Don't know.

Holli

MB said...

OH, SNAP - Holli nails it! and this was my last hit on the refresh button. See you all later!

memphish said...

I've got to get Mini-Me (tho a male version) to bed. Drive it up close to 108 before I get back peeps. And figure out why no one of the Fusie beach landed near the person they were sitting next to on the plane. Anyone versed in trajectories?

Holli

Stephanie said...

Kimberley, the girls (mostly Jael) are making such idiots out of theirselves. I'm embarrassed for them. I can't watch.

Anonymous said...

Does anyone else wonder if on the night of the very last episode, we are all sitting on our couches screaming, "WHAT?!?"

That's what I'm thinking will happen.

April

memphish said...

Hey April, Glad you're posting. I missed you on that last long thread. I'd love it if that last night I have a WTF moment, but it better not be a snow globe.

Holli

Stephanie said...

Or the island on a back of a turtle.
Holli, share a pic of your Mini-me. This is a pic of mine.

International-J said...

aren't they planing on having the end be a film? or was that just a rumor.

Jordan said...

My ultimate fear for Lost is that I will be left with the same reaction that I was at the end of the 2nd Matrix movie. After all that nonsense with the architect or whoever that white haired old guy was. My reaction was, "What?! You got to kidding me. Really? That's the explanation?" Let's hope that's not how this ends.

Stephanie said...

Yeah, I'm afraid I won't be satisfied with they get rescued. I want to see what happens when they get home. Will Jack and Kate end up together? Will Kate be apprehended? And many, many more questions.

memphish said...

Steph, Here's Mini-Me. As you can see we're in that awkward getting grown-up teeth phase. And as long as he stays that blond then my Blondzilla wrestling name will accurately represent me as well.

Holli

Stephanie said...

Holli, what a doll. He goes to bed this early? I have a Night Owl.

Stephanie said...
This comment has been removed by the author.
memphish said...

Steph, He's not given the option to be a night owl. But with two morning people for his parents, odds are he's one too. He's still in that very honest phase. One night he turned his light back on to look at book, but he confessed it to me first thing in the morning. Oh, if that would only continue when he's a teenager.

Sorry for the mom talk everyone else.

Boobs.

That better?

memphish said...

I just saw the smackdown preview ad again. Did we ever figure out what Kate is saying as she pummels the crap out of Juliet?

I rewatched the Jack and Ethan fights today. In fight #2, Jack keeps hitting Ethan over and over and over (while straddling him) just like Kate seems to be doing.

Still didn't see the whipped topping. Someone with Photoshop powers needs to fix that for the guys around here once we get screencaps.

What is this, 'Angels in Chains'?

I liked it, but in my first viewing, I ended up not minding switching over to ANTM and waiting till 10pm to watch it on ABC.

I also found myself looking at the time a lot more than usual, sadly. Was interesting, though. Not much development, and I really wanted it to be a Juliet episode.

Hmmmm anyway, not much else to say, I suppose.

memphish said...

I really liked it Jillian. It was Thelma and Louise by accident both on island and in flashback. But where Thelma hates Louise on island. And Jack is a putz. I'm just saying.

Holli

aimee is lost said...

I think there was like, ten points in that episode where I expected Kate to start making out with Cassidy. The men around here at the blogspot are a horrible influence on the way my mind works.

It was an okay episode, some definitely great fight scenes (that body flip thing that Juliet did to Kate right off the bat!) and of course...

Welcome Back Smoke Munster!!

memphish said...

Aimee, I saw that Sawyer has finally run out of books. He's re-reading Watership Down. Hurley's Charm School was a great B story.

Holli

B. Linus said...

holy shit man. what was that all about? a lot going on in that one. can't wait to hear all the discussion.

Stephanie said...

Hmm. I don't know if I liked it or not. Very luke-warm. I'm gonna have to sleep on it. I do know that it's a shame Gina went home before Haley. The Rocker was beginning to grow on me.

memphish said...

I want to hear from Palmer. Did mud substitute admirably for Dharma Whipped topping?

Holli

Stephanie said...

I understand where you're coming from, Aimee. Cassidy being in the fb was very awkward.

Anonymous said...

Yeah, it was ok. I'm wondering why Kate and Juliet didn't want to clean up a bit before leaving the others' camp. Think the others turned off the running water before the left?

p.s. thanks for all the warm welcomes!

April

Stephanie said...

How hot is vulnerable Sawyer?

memphish said...

How many times did Hurley say "since Nikki and Paolo died?" I get it. They're dead. Unless Vincent is busy digging them up and they can survive 2 days. We didn't see Vincent.

Too bad Sawyer's not going to get to lead long.

And Hurley is now The Wizard in my book. He's definitely the man behind Sawyer's curtain.

Holli

B. Linus said...

what was all that flashing from the munster when they were in the trees? and does anyone believe juliet when she says they dont know what the thing is?

memphish said...

I think everything we saw tonight was a con to put Juliet back on the beach with the Fusies. I bet she'll be the one to use Paolo's walkie talkie.

Holli

B. Linus said...

you may be right about the con but sayid looks like he knows so im not so sure bout the radio.

memphish said...

Problem is Sayid is going to have to get past Jack, the putz the with coconut head. How many times have women burned him, and he still trusts them? Of course, Sayid has the "I was right about Ben" ace in the hole.

Holli

probune said...

Those have to be the worst flashbacks in the history of Lost.

Sawyer and Hurley were pretty funny though

memphish said...

I thought the FB was better than the last 2 Kate FBs which have been among the worst FBs in the last 1 1/2 seasons.

Holli

B. Linus said...

for sure. but i dont think hes gonna ask. and the look he and kate shared, i think she'll be down to help out. should be fun to see at any rate. and for the record, i liked this eppisode. i laughed the whole time sawyer and hurley were on the screen. and we got more munster then we've gotten to date. pretty cool.

PalmerEldritch said...

worst.conman.evar!

since when did Sawyer get lobotomized? sure, it makes for good comedy when Sawyer is an idiot but wasn't this guy a quick thinking conman pre-Island? "I... don't like... blankets." yeesh. perhaps he was just distracted by Claire's lovable yet squinchy face?

good for Hurley for conning Sawyer. boo for Sawyer being the only one not to notice.

and whats with "everyone's eating boar because of you, sawyer?" no, everyone's eating boar because Desmond shot a boar with a rifle.

how many seperate smackdown's did we have? just two? so, it's a tie? juliet whupped up on kate in the pool hall. and kate pwn3d juliet something fierce in the jungle. was there a tie breaker?

i started laughing at the sheer (no pun originally intended) convenience of the sudden rain shower and again at the mud bath. good stuff.

not quite what i was hoping for with the she-grappling but i'll take it.

why can't the smoke munster just jump over the fence if it's an amorphous gas critter?

but it was a fun episode anyhow. hurley continues to be the man. except that he somehow thinks it'd be a good idea to put sawyer in charge. i was really hoping that Hurley'd take charge a little more.

anyone catch any dharmalar cookies in the episode? A-1, Beer, anything else?

i really hope that if Ben has an evil scheme behind dropping Juliet off with the Lostaways, that she isn't fully aware of it. it's more fun when Ben's manipulating everyone.

why don't the Lostaways hang out in Othertown? or at least steal the wood and whatnot for supplies to create shacks at the beach?

so, no dharma whipped topping but at least we got the mud wrestling.

/this post was like a stream of consciousness thing

Anonymous said...

Smokey had some pretty kick ass scenes, but I had to just laugh when they fell in the mud. I mean, come on... For a second there I thought they were gonna go all "Predator" on us.

B. Linus said...

the casidy/sawyer/kate connection stuff in the fb was kinda neat too.

memphish said...

Yeah Palmer, it felt like I was reading James Joyce. I tried to look for Dharmalars too, but didn't think about it quick enough. Screencaps! We need screencaps! I don't do that stuff, just mooch.

Holli

memphish said...

I wish Cassidy had told "Lucy" the name of the man she still loved. This is the first person Kate's told her real name when she was done using them.

Locke was a pompous ass. Doesn't he know that's Jack's role. Nice how Jack doesn't ask about Locke or Sayid, just Juliet. I think he's been in Room 23 after all.

Holli

Anonymous said...

And I was half expecting the little houses to start blowing up, one by one

memphish said...

True Tommytheduck. Guess Locke didn't have any more boom sticks.

Holli

B. Linus said...

so what about the flashes? and if the others dont have anything that eliminates smokey as the resident info gatherer. big questions raised there i think.

Sir William Osler, MD said...

Wow. Everyone really hates Jack here. Or that could just be Holli.

And Kuliet covered in mud is hotter than usual.

Tommytheduck said...

Yeah, Cassidy had that totally hot, Tina Fey look goin on

memphish said...

Ironically Colin I Jack is my favorite character. I just hate Juli-ack. And Jack is going all Juil-ack, at the very least at the peril of Hurley and the rest of our Losties. So I'm mad at him.

Holli

Sir William Osler, MD said...

Haha, Holli, Jack's my favorite, as well. Personally, I don't mind Juliack, but I guess we'll see where it goes.

Kate's flashback were essentially shit, but the island stuff wasn't too bad. Sawyer and Hurley are always funny together.

Anonymous said...

- meh. it was filler from beginning to end, but i enjoyed it anyway. I much prefer this sort of filler where there's not much story advancement but the tone is kept in check, over jokey episodes like "Expose" or "Dave"

- I knew Juliette staged her predicament from the beginning but i thought the Others were testing Kate to see if she was a good person at her core, to see if she'd act selflessly to help Juliette.

- They should just retire Kate flashbacks unless they come up with a crazy hook. I remember Season 1 when her backstory was the most pressing because she seemed like she could be a threat. Now, like with Sawyer, they're kind of trapped by trying to make Kate a fugitive but not being able to let her do anything too terrible because she needs to remain redeemable and likeable.

- i'm still a little miffed that the munster is a shifting volume of smoke. Everything in Season 1 pointed to it being truckasaurus. It's probably a godsend for the writers and producers because it's a lot easier to stage scenes with the smoke but it still feels a little cheap. Juliette got scanned. Will she see her sister zombie walking around the island?

- I wish they wouldn't have characters lie all of the time, like Juliette about knowing the smoke munster. It just perpetuates all of the secondguessing in Internetica. I listened to the Lostcasts podcast today and i might have to retire it because they're chasing after a bunch of goofy theories.

- *next on lost* It may be those tricksy promo gnomes again, but next week looks like a good housekeeping episode designed to tie up a lot of the mini-mysteries so we can focus on the big story for the rest of the season. i really enjoy seeing flashback Ethan. He's properly creepy and endearing.

andrew.

memphish said...

I was glad to see Kate have a "cross" in a more significant way than Sayid on the TV and her "dad" meeting him in Iraq. I'd also been wondering how she couldn't know Cassidy if they both lived in po-dunk Iowa. Cassidy had to know who she was the whole time wouldn't you think? I'd imaging blowing a guy up and you're mama ratting you out is front page news for a while.

Holli

Anonymous said...

ok people. just because Jay & Jack use the term mUnster, does that really mean that everyone else has to do it too? Please, make it stop.

Alsu, I really did enjuy seeing the monster tunight, and I tutally agree that Joliet is unly going back tu the beach as a plant tu infiltrate the Lusties camp. I still dun't trost her any forther than Kate can thruw her.

(Back to the regular use of 'o' and 'u' now...)
I had a haunting feeling when we first started hearing the monster in this episode, and Kate's flashback showed her being completely unrepentant (sp?) for killing Wayne (it was Wayne, wasn't it?). It just felt too much like Eko's episode when he s killed by the smoke monster.

And speaking of the name Wayne, he was obviously destined to be a bad guy with a name like that. Especially if it was his middle name.

btw, Kate = not pretty when she cries. Jack = also not pretty when he cries. How long has it been since Jack has had a good cry in the jungle?

Sir William Osler, MD said...

Well, I dunno if Cassidy was from Iowa (or was living there). I think Sawyer told her to go there to meet him....I don't think she was there the whole time.

memphish said...

Colin, Sawyer met Marty (or whatever his name was) at Kate's mom's diner when he was conning Cassidy. Now they could be close to state lines. I'm not up on Iowa geography, but still. The implication was they were geographically close.

Denass, guud call on unrepentant Kate and Eko and the incredibly creepy Wayne thing. Is there anyone on the show who cries pretty?

Holli

Sir William Osler, MD said...

Yeah, you're right. I completely forgot about that one. Maybe she doesn't read the paper/watch the news? Or maybe she knew all along who she was.

And I honestly don't think Juliet is a mole, so to speak, or if she is, I don't think she knows about it (ie it was Ben's idea). That's exactly what Cuselof wants us to think, especially after Juliet faked the whole handcuff thing.

B. Linus said...

i definately think it is a ben mastermind thing. it is the ben season seemingly. andrew, if juliet is lying about the others knowledge of the monster, and it is a "tool" of theirs, then why did it scan her? wouldn't the others already know every thing about her? not sayin you're wrong, just sayin.

memphish said...

MB, I'm leaving 108 for you. Hope you get it.

Holli

Anonymous said...

i don't think the munster (sorry, i like that name.) is the Others' "tool." i just meant that Juliette and the Others knew about it and she was lying when she acted like she had never heard of it before. she obviously knew enough about it to know that the sonic fence would stop it.

andrew.

B. Linus said...

she admited that to kate right after the fence thing too. so i think we're on the same page then. so do we still think smokey, (i like that name actually), has anything to do with mr. cooper. cause i think this proves lockes dad is on the island and not just smokey shape shifting.

B. Linus said...

if smokey can even shape shift.

Anonymous said...

Ok was this episode another inside joke? Or was this the episode for guys with visions of 2 hot chicks getting it on?

Of course when the girls are running from the Smoke Monster, one of them had to fall--and since they were hancuffed together, the both fell...in to a puddle...of mud. Seriously? Don't count out the fist fight in the rain by moonlight.

Aimee, I think you and I are on the same wavelength. I thought for a split second Kate & Cassidy were going to have a Lesbian moment toward the end in the car when Cassidy revealed that she's pregnant--not that there's anything wrong with that.

BTW, what's the name of Cassidy's daughter? Lucy? Actually forget it, I think it's Clementine.

My hatred of Juliet has grown tenfold.

Jack is still hot.

Hurley is the puppetmaster.

Is it just me, or did you kinda want to be on the Island during the Luau? Looked pretty sweet.

(For the ladies) How awesome was it to see Sawyer and Desmond kill that boar? I'd like to be part that that hunting party/manwich.

Just finished watching.

Pretty good IMHO. I actually liked the FB - certainly not jaw dropping or anything but we got a good crossover character and I thought some good drama. Would have liked a lot more with the Marshal though.

Hate Kate's mom - what a sad fucked up person, I can't ever imagine saying to my child "I never want to see you again" and mean it.

Also am hating Locke. After Talahassee I thought - he's got a plan, he's finally maybe going to get some answers in his life instead of the ream-jobs he usually seems to get. But I got pissed off at his very others-esque superior tone with Kate. He made a CASE for her (and then apparently renigged and decided to line up behind Ben & co.)!?! What the fuck is he doing?! And what's with the renewed trust in Ben LIE-nus?! I guess I'm anxious to see what happened to suddenly turn the others from "Pharisees" to friends (or at least trustworthy enough to leave Kate, Jack and Sayid behind. I guess it's all part of the new Locke on a mission. It just pissed me off this time.

In the FB, I had read Aimee's comment about Kate and Cassidy, so I can't tell if I kept thinking they were gonna kiss because I'm a male from this blog, or because she put the suggestion in my head.

I kind of laughed re: cassidy's returned from her interrogation wearing the wig b/c I just can't imagine the Marshal bought that wig as real and didn't yank it off of her, and ask her "what's with the Kate wig sweetheart?". Maybe he did, and she put it back on for some reason (I can't think why).

The Smackdown was entertaining - I laughed at the mud and the rain (I was actually replacing the mud with whipped topping in my mind), but the dislocated shoulder made me cringe - ugh, that's gotta hurt! I really liked the kick-ass flip-to-the-floor Juliet pulled in the gameroom - didn't see that coming! And so early in the hour!

Allright - well I didn't make 108 for Holli, but Im sure she or someone awesome will Razzle-Dazzle it. Must sleep.

P.S.
Denass - you made me realize that switching O's and U's produces some crazy french/dutch affect when you speak them. Cracked me up - thank yuo very moch!

Interesting ep on more than a few levels. Not exactly sure what I think overall as to if I especially liked it. It was kinda all over the place. It was a big episode for new questions, and not much on the answer end. But thats Lost, right?

Aimee and Kim, you weren't the only ones getting the vibe between Kate and Cassidy. Serious, they gave each other some intense looks. I think I yelled, "Come on! You know you want it!" at least 3 times. The funny thing about it is the actress who played Cassidy was in Deadwood, and her character was a closet bisexual or a lesbian or something if I remember correctly.

The Kate-Julie stuff was pretty good. Like many of us guessed, it wasn't an all out brawl. But they had a couple run ins, which was kinda cool. Judo flip! Impressive Jules. And who didn't get excited when they tripped into the mud? Man, did Kate have a look on her face when Julie unlocked the cuffs or what? I thought she was going to re-dislocate J's shoulder. Watching them walk side by side and noticing how much taller Juliette is than Kate made me 2nd guess my Kate could kick Julie's ass thinking from before. If all was even they'd probably be a pretty even match. But Kate did serious whoop on J in the jungle.

Aims and Kim, your cock tease 2.0 title from last week was extremely prophetic. This entire episode was a major tease for us dudes in the audience. With all the Kuliet stuff as well as the googly eyes that Kate and Cassidy kept giving one another. Let's just say, it was a good thing I watched this one alone. ;)

I agree with something somebody said about it being too obvious for Juliette to be a plant on the beach. It's just too obvious. Maybe Ben if using her. But I don't think she's in on it. The whole, "Oh snap! Is Juliette playing everybody?" ending was too much for it to be true in my mind.

What the hell were those flashes from the mOnster? Sorry, I don't like that othUr term myself. But feel free to use it if you like. :P

I got a good kick out of the Sawyer running for mayor mccheese stuff. Man, Sun sure knows how to hold a grudge, eh?

During the luau, Desmond sure seemed pretty bummed out/mentally elsewhere up until Hurley gave him something to eat. Something is up. I think Charlie better start making good use of his time.

When Kate told her mom that she wasn't sorry it so reminded me of Eko. If she were on the island at the time, I would've expected her to be offed right there and then.

What the hell was going on with Locke? Damn you John Locke! He sure didn't seem too sentimental when saying goodbye to Kate. I don't think we go back to the Locke-Ben stuff for a couple more weeks, so I guess it will remain a mystery.

I wouldn't say that the flashback was necessarily great. But it also wasn't horrible. It showed a good deal into why Kate is so emotionally guarded. And thats usually the whole point of the flashbacks. To explain why the characters are the way they are.

There was also a couple nods to ongoing flashback story lines as well. Cassidy mentioned something to Kate about the Marshall really having it out for Kate, thus hinting once again at Kate and him having some serious history. And the last part with Cassidy talking about Sawyer and the baby, and that she still loved him.

Maybe it wasn't one of the best flashbacks. But there have been much worse. (*cough*further instructions*cough*)

I think it's pretty obvious that Ben has some sort of plan going on right now. He left Jack, Kate, Juliette, and Sayid all alone and able to go back to the beach for a reason. And he has Locke with him for a reason as well. Most likely these two things are going to tie together at some point down the road.

Damn. I need to go to bed.

memphish said...

I thought Kate was going to shove Juliet into the sonic fence once it was back on like Locke did to Patchy. Damn Kate. Grow a pair.

This episode really makes me wonder why Klugh and Patchy were willing to die when none of the rest of the Others seem willing to, especially Ben.

I thought the FB coulda been sexed up a bit - Kate & Joanie Stubbs making out or a reveal about Sawyer.

The island stuff was fun - another Reyes & Ford buddy comedy. Kate beat Juliet 2-1 in the fight and it was hot. Smokey was harsh but I have no idea what it did with its flash photography.

The ending was a letdown. Still, I enjoyed watching it.

memphish said...

In reflecting back it seems that the one key part missing from the episode was the Kate and Juliet shower scene before leaving Othersville. It could have been like Porky's with Jack and Sayid peeking through a hole in the wall.

Kim, agree that the Desmond/Sawyer hunting expedition was on of the highlights of the episode.

The smoke munster -

Locke revealed that what he saw was a "white light" - that must be what Kate & Juliet saw at night.

I don't know if there are two types of smoke munsters or what. But that's freaking hilarious that Kate and the gang can shimmie up a pole and go over the fence, and the almighty munster can't, um, fly over it?

memphish said...

The monster lacks shimmie power. It's superpower is lame.

Its shimmie power is lame.

I too thought of Locke's white light when Smokey photocopied Kuliet - I still havent got a clue what it means though.

I think Sun will tell Jin about her kidnapping just to be a bitch.

aimee is lost said...

She was being kind of a cunt by laughing at Sawyer, and then refusing to smile at him when he's trying to make nice with everyone.

That was kind of lame of Sawyer taking credit for Desmond's hunting, but it was delightfully uncomfortable watching Sawyer try to make his amends.

Hurley is quite possibly the best character on the show. He also looks like he's slimming down quite a bit. He was great in this episode, and I don't think I'm ever really disappointed by his performances. He's funny as hell, he says what we're usually thinking, and might be the only "innocent" person there. They're also showing us how intelligent/"crafty" he can be, which is cool too.

I'm also not buying the Juliet is "one of us" now. It doesn't really matter though. Sayid will get the information he needs.

Andrew, you are brilliant.

I have to rewatch the scene with Locke but why should Kate feel any accountability to the Others? Who are they to say what she did was a sin or what have you?

memphish said...

Steph, I guess when your mother calls you a cold-blooded murderer and you essentially agree, it's pretty much a sin.

Juliet is evil, evil, evil. The music they are playing when Jack decides Juliet is coming proves it. Can't Jack hear it?

There was no music during the fight scenes tho. Too bad for Jimmy.

Why don't they all move to the barracks? Running water, plumbing and a pool table are 3 good reasons. Not to mention keeping Smokey out of your sleeping bag.

Elias, I think everyone was asking themself the same question. I'd be all over that mousetrap game.

How hilarious would that be if Jack went back to beach, decided to move the whole 815 crew to Otherville, and then one day, the Others come back from their field training exercise and find a bunch of people living in their houses.

Ben would be like, "What the hell are you doing here?" and Jack would say, "Yeah, we live here now. Enjoy the beach."

Once a year, they go on a "company retreat" and picnic out in the jungle with Jacob.

The majority of Others don't realize that the quarantine thing is a hoax, so they all wear the gas masks. Only the higher ups like Ben and Alpert know the truth.

OR, there's another society of Others who live underground (the Molemen) and they're going to chill with those dudes for a while. It's really smelly down there, because the Molemen aren't very hygenic, so they wear masks.

Why does Locke feel the Others know Kate better than he does? What did Kate do against the Others? What do they have to forgive her for?

Steph, I was under the impression all that stuff Locke was referring to had to do with "what Kate did" in her past. I have mixed feelings about the episode.

I believe that when the Monster confronted Eko, we saw the "scanning" process happen from the Monsters perspective. The bright flashing and electric arc sound when Kuliet was scanned was from "their" perspective.

I HATED the whole "Sawyer be nice" plot. Cheesy as hell. It felt like the show was nearly jumping the shark...and also when they fell in mud I had similar thoughts.

Hmmm...still chewing over this episode.

I don't mean to disappoint you MB, but as far as full-on chick fights go, I've only been in one, and I didn't punch her out. It was in weight training class, and she totally started it. So, I wonder why the sonic fence was off in this ep (if it keeps ol' smokey at bay) - who turned it off since Par Avion and why. Or maybe it gets turned on by sections. Just a random thought.

Sir William Osler, MD said...

Maybe the Others turned it off to get out of the barracks? Of course if they had tunnels, they wouldn't need to.

I was hoping that Juliet would show Kate one of tunnels (if there are some, of course) so they could get away from the smoke monster....but I guess not. It would've been a sweet getaway, though.

Did anyone else notice that where Kate and Juliet hid from the monster in the rain is the same set/location where Kate hid from the monster in the Pilot (in the rain, no less)? At least, that's what it looks like.

It's interesting that they talked about Jack in that spot in Left Behind, and Kate was worried about Jack in the scene from the Pilot (I think she though he was dead....). Of course, it could be just that they're using the same location unintentionally. Who knows.

Just listened to a bit of Jay and Jack. Somebody called in with a very good point. Forgot her name, but she said that she thinks that Anna Lucia was originally intended for Juliet's role in the Jules/Jack/Kate love triangle. That was her purpose from the very moment she bonded with Jack at the airport bar.

So that would lead us to think that the whole, "Michelle Rodriguez was only doing one season from the get go" line of thinking was a bit of spin on the producers parts. Maybe she really was killed off prematurely because of the dui and her rumored difficult nature on the set?

Another possible reason that I have though of for why they would have killed off Anna Lucia and replaced her with Juliet is that the fans really didn't like Anna Lucia. And I don't think that was the producers intent. The 3rd member of a Kate/Jack/whoever love triangle has to be somewhat likable (Some people do in fact like her Holli! lol). So maybe they got rid of her for that reason?

Sir William Osler, MD said...

Another reason why the fence could be off was because Juliet had to bring Kate and herself out in the jungle. Obviously, she knows how to turn it on and off. And I suppose that, if there are tunnels, Juliet may not know about them.

Sir William Osler, MD said...

And Jordan, I like that idea, whoever's it was. I think it could be that Ana-Lucia was intended for a year, but, much like what happened with Nikki and Paulo, the producers didn't have enough time to develop everything and they bit off more than they could chew.

memphish said...

Colin, good point about Juliet actually being the one to turn off the fence. I hate how we never really know how much time has passed. There was at least one day, one night, and the next day, and I guess Juliet didn't worry that Smokey might go check out Jack and Sayid.

I'm still wondering how they incapacitated Sayid since he was outside. Put a gas mask complete with gas on him?

Holli

Sir William Osler, MD said...

Maybe Sayid's a traitor, too. And he actually was behind everything, so Juliet's just getting a bad rap.

Seriously, they could have injected him with something or just tied him up.

Stephanie said...

I've been thinking about if we should trust Juliet or not. The title of One of Them told us that Henry Gale was another. Maybe One of Us means that Juliet is trustworthy.
Thank you, Colin. It was driving me crazy, not knowing how the fence was turned off.
Jordon, I agree with that JandJ caller. The Anna Lucia character was brought in the drive a wedge between Jate. And it never happened. That bothered me.

I think in general, the fans are always a bit put off by the introduction of new characters. I don't think it has so much to do with the characters themselves, but the simple fact that they're not our "core" group of characters. Anything that draws attention away from the A-Team tends to irritate us to some degree.

The only exceptions to this have been Desmond and Ben Linus. I don't know if that's because: a) the actors were so talented at playing their roles, b) the characters themselves were genuinely interesting, or c) we knew after first meeting them that they'd be around for a long time.

For the record though, I did like Libby, simply because of her effect on Hurley, but again, that's me being defensive of the A-Team.

Anonymous said...

- *next on lost* promo suggests that we'll see the Claire kidnapping from the Others' perspective.

- i think the Juliet thing works much better than Ana Lucia. Ana Lucia only works as a romance, but with Juliet you also get the traitor thing and placing Jack's sympathies in question (although it's pretty obvious that dudley doright's not going to betray the survivors)
Planned or not, Ana Lucia's stay on the island lasted just the right amount of time.

- hey, remember Libby? we all thought she was going to be all over the Season 3 flashbacks.

- I wonder if Ralph was surprised when Cassidy showed up in Kate's flashback. Anyone who caught "previously on lost" certainly wasn't

- Anyone want to hazard a guess when Penny will make an appearance?

- i heard that the new Sopranos episode might already be on On-Demand. Awesome.

What exactly was the point of Sawyer learning how to be the leader of the beach people if Jack, Sayid, and Kate all return next week? What, did the island folk need a leader for that luau? Maybe it will lead to Sawyer wanting to be a leader and him and ol' Captain Jack bumping heads some more.

Stephanie said...

I've resolved the problem I had with the Locke scene. Locke knew the Others were watching. That's the reason he said the things he did. You would not believe how I've obsessed over this scene.

Anonymous said...

...totally off topic. I by no means follow BSG, but does anyone suscribe to the video BSGcast?

OK...back on topic. As much as I didn't care of Ana-Lucia. I think I'd rather see her being the wedge between Jake & Kate rather than Juliet. Sure, Juliet was 'tricked' into coming to the island...but she doesn't need to play the mind games that were played on her with the 815ers. Why is everyone so sneaky, why isn't anyone upfront?

elias said...

Sopranos and the Office - sweet. The Shield was brilliant on Tuesday. It's a shame some of these shows are coming to an end soon.

Steph, I think you may be right to obsess over the Locke/ Kate scene.

I'm backing Jay that Juliet was left behind without a mission from the Others.

MB said...

Jordan - I think Sawyer's taste of decency will certainly affect the Skater-ack-iet quadragle somehow. Maybe it will bring Kate back to Sawyer. I'm not a Skater or a Jater at this point - just thinking objectively.

Steph - GOOD POINT. That certainly could explain it, since I'm guessing hs prime directive at this point is to get closer to the magic box. He would certainly need to use the others to get there.

ooh that's a good point Kim. I could get into a bit of power struggle between Sawyer and Jack, if Sawyer starts to embrace the leadership a little and then questions Jack's judgement in bringing Juliet to the beach. I like it.

memphish said...

I think the leadership thing will come down to how you view Juliet. Jack will want her to be accepted into the group. Will anyone want to accept her? It will certainly be an early test of his leadership and the promo looked to set Sawyer up in the opposing camp. I can't imagine Claire or Charlie would side with Jack either. But Sun won't side with Sawyer. Maybe the vote was just a joke this week but will come about next week.

Well, since someone brought up BSG, I'm definately going to compare the two. I think Juliet is going play the same role that Athena played. No one will like her (except Jack), but since she's an other (like Athena was a cylon), she'll give crazy amounts of useful information to the survivors.

Jordan said...

Kim, I don't think Sawyer wanted to be the leader with the guns as much as he wanted to do whatever the hell he wanted. And that people had to play by his rules. He didn't seem too interested in what the other people did. Just that they played his game.

And Steph. That is a valid theory about Locke. Although I still think he's just so of a one track mind right now. And I know what you mean about obsessing over a scene. I've been rewatching the Kate-Juliet rumble scenes over and over trying to figure out just exactly what was going on. ;)

Hahaha! Aimee, I am totally with ya on the Tyra Banks hate. I can't stand the bitch. She is so full of herself, it's disgusting.

The worst thing ever was when she dressed up in a fat suit and went out in public for a half hour or so. She was ridiculous. She went up to a man and asked him if he would normally ask someone of her "size" out on a date. Then in her studio she started to cry about how horrible it was to be judged that way. She then had a sit down with a group of actual overweight women where she cried talking about how horrible it was to dress up in a fat suit. The audacity of her to say that to actual overweight women!

I hate how just big of a deal she makes everything to be. She makes everything so dramatic and over the top. That whole screaming at the tabloids thing where she said to kiss her fat ass. Give me a break. Yeah, shes so fucking fat, huh? So she's not super model thin anymore, so now she can say how "fat" she is and tell people off. Puh-lease. She is the one propogating all the fat stuff.

The funny thing is I never watch he show. I just see all the clips they play on The Soup. At least she provides them with good material week in week out.

I actually saw her show for the first time the other day, and me and my friend Nick got in a big fight over it. She had a show about women of color dealing with racism. It was just so ridiculous. It was basically just a bash whitey show. Tyra first had some black women to talk about how hard it was, then some native american models who cried about how they can't get work, then Margret Fucking Cho to talk about how hard it is to be an asian female comedian. Margret Cho?! Give me a fucking break! Her entire routine is predicated on her making fun of her Asian family! Then she talks about how it hurts when white people come up to her after her show and repeat her jokes to her. Only on a stupid show like this. Anyway, I was so annoyed by the show and my friend who is half black couldn't see it. I started ripping on Tyra for being a drama queen and always using the race card or fat card. And the idiot defended her, saying that she is just doing her thing. I almost punched him in the face.

Holy shit Aimee. You seemed to ignite a hot button with me on this one. lol.

Andrew - That's the one! I asked about the BSG vidcast, because I went to University with the guy host, Matt. When I first met him, he was such a tool. When we had to do TV shows or an EFP project, it was always 'fantasy' based--and in the plot he'd create a role for his gf (always in something too tight) and save her from dying. Then we'd have to watch them makeout for what seems like an eternity. We made fun of him--but now we're over that. He's actually done some pretty cool documentary and films (non fantasy based). I can't really call him names anymore considering I 'particiate' in the LOST discussions.

Aimee - Tyra Banks is amazing. She's one of my heroes. I love ANTM Tyra, but can't stand Talk Show Tyra. I think what she is doing for girls--especially young girls is fantastic. With her summer camps, and out-reach programs. She's self indulgent, self obsessed...but if you had people telling you--"You're goreous, you're wonderful, everybody loves you" at photoshoots all your life, I'm surprised she's not as crazy as other Super Models in the world.

Power Struggle, I think Sawyer may find it a relief that Jack is back. That way he has an excuse for not actually becoming the leader. I think he likes the illusion of power, but doesn't know what to do with it.

No, I didn't really want to punch him. I was exaggerating when I said that. But we did get in a small argument about racism. I was saying that Tyra was exploiting the actual issue of racism in America. That she was making a big deal out of stupid things. Things that are insulting to real, serious racism. And that the way she was presenting it was exploiting the issues for her tv show (i know, a novel concept) more than it was doing anything to help.
