Yeah, exactly, Elias. And like I said in the last thread, it'd be way to obvious for her to be a mole. That's what the majority of people think, though, according to the Jay and Jack podcast callers.
What did you have to go and delete you comment for? Now my bitchy, albeit in jest, retort makes no sense. lol. Geez. I'd expect this shit from the females around here. I think I need to bust out my boob avatar to compensate for my lack of manliness.
I propose that we put "Tyra Banks" on the SAS:MYOKOM banned topic list, if one exists. Clearly too touchy a topic. lol.
Jordan, if anything, it's my lack of manliness. I will take full responsibility for that one. If you feel the need to bust out the boob avatar (hey-oh), you go ahead.
And I agree. No Tyra Banks. Everyone turns into girls when we talk about that.
we need to get in touch with our feminine side, brosephs.
light some scented candles and watch Lost again from a feminist perspective - I did this and only Isabel from Stranger in a Strange Land doesn't let the side down.
We've never seen Smokey leave the ground really in its attack mode. It seemed to take some time to build itself up into a wall above Eko right before it grabbed him. I don't have a problem with it being stopped by the fence.
Jordan - can't wait to see AJ's girlfriend again, she was hot. and Paulie Walnuts is the greatest character ever.
Elias - good point about smokey never leaving the ground. Anyone here have hardcore theories on what it is? Lindeluse put the nanobots theory soundly to sleep long ago and I have not been following any other theories about it.
One thing I was thinking about was how it chooses who it interacts with and harms or doesn't harm. I remembered several things - 1) it interacted with Locke (and I imagine it scanned him - hence the light that seemed to come across Locke's face in that scene in the Pilot) but did not harm him, 2) It scanned Eko, and ultimately killed him after he would not repent for his sins, 3) It generally has not harmed anyone that has run away from it and refused to interact with it (except the pilot of the plane - and I don't have a good answer for that theory-hole yet except that he wasn't running away yet). So, these interactions made me think, if it is a security system, as Danielle has said, then I would guess that it is protecting the magic box, or jacob, or something that is at the heart of what's so special about this island. And perhaps it doesn't just keep everyone away but scans people to see who they are and moreover - if they are someone who would seek out what this island is about. If you just run away, you are probably not a big threat to what it is trying to protect - i.e. you don't care that much, b/c I'm guessing that, in order to actually discover the island's secrets, wherever they are hidden, you've gotta really want it.
Locke, I'm guessing was immediately curious about the island, and stood his ground when smokey approached him. Smokey scanned him but left him alone judging him worthy (perhaps "a good person"). Eko also got scanned and I imagine smokey saw his past and saw his sins, but did not harm him yet because he had not really begun his curiousity about the island. When smokey saw Eko next, he had had his vision of Ana Lucia, which kick-started his mission to help Locke, and led to him discovering the Pearl and finding purpose in pressing the button in the Swan. When Yemi appears to him in his tent (in "Cost of Living") he says Eko must confess his sins, and that it is time to be judged. When Eko refuses, smokey now knows this is someone who is on a path to discover the island's secrets and is not a "good person" - so it kills him to protect the island's secret (box, jacob..whatever it is).
Sorry for the length here - trying to get the ideas out.
How were Kate and Juliet supposed to orient themselves from that spot in the jungle in order to navigate anywhere other than back to Othersville? The handy pocket knife didn't appear to have a compass. No maps. Whoever left them there whether it was Juliet or some other Others had to know the only place they could reasonably head was back to Othersville. Juliet never tries to navigate Kate in a different direction despite her smackdown ability. The Others all seem to come with Kung-Fu grip.

BTW guys, you just needed to put a couple of posts in there saying Boobs or Nipples or linking to the mud photos to un-girl yourselves. Take a hint from Aimee and Kim, the queens of the LOST podcasting world.
Good point Holli. Despite her protectiveness of Jack, my sense was that I don't think Juliet cared too much where they ended up going, as long as she wasn't left behind.
I wonder why she chose Kate to cuff herself to, and not Jack?
elias - I forgot about Locke getting dragged into the hole (snicker) - good one. That might jibe with the idea of subterranean others. Maybe that's where the box is?
If it wasn't a con, I don't get why Juliet kept the handcuffs on until they reached the fence and were being chased by Smokey. The I didn't want Kate to leave me behind doesn't work for me. Birthday present for Palmer? That's really the most logical explanation.
Going round and round it's hard to say what I think now. I want to think Juliet is a hard-hearted stone-cold Other who would sell out Jack and anybody else for her own agenda, but I can't figure out what exactly that agenda is. But for now, that's just what I'm going to believe, and I'm putting all my eggs in the Sayid is going to get tons of info. out of her and then kill her basket. I wish it were my birthday next week so TPTB would grant me my wish.
I've said this a few times already, but it doesn't hurt to repeat myself. The reason I am leaning towards Juliet not having evil intentions is because it just seems too obvious. And this show is all about deception and red herrings. With how this episode ended, they might as well put text on the screen that says, "Uh oh. Is Juliet to be trusted?" And for me, in a show like this if a mystery is so obvious that everybody and their grandma picks up on it right away, it's probably not what it seems. I think Ben has a plan in play with her on the beach, but that she isn't aware.
If she's such an outcast, why did she have handcuff keys? That to me screams I'm still one of them.
I agree that for the most part LOST is nothing but a bunch of twists, but this season has been a bit of a dumbed down version of the series. There's an x-ray of a 40-something with a tumor. Yes it's Ben. Eko is booked on Regis and Kelly and someone's supposed to die. Yes it's Eko. Kate never even sees Jack until 5 1/2 episodes in and on the other side of a glass wall, but we need to sex things up so she sleeps with Sawyer. Shocker. Nikki and Paolo are buried alive. Guess what they're really dead.
My point, this season things for the most part are exactly what they seem to be. The exception--Locke who wasn't quite the doofus he seemed to be at the end of Enter 77, but now he's one of them.
So is Juliet still one of them. I vote yes. And what's with this, if I tell you they'll kill me crap. How are they going to know and why go over to the Losties anyway if the only reason the Losties would take you would lead to your death.

insightful thoughts indeed. can't really add anything to that other than Locke got dragged into Smokey's hole (that's what she said!).
he asked Jack to let him go, "It'll be alright". was Smokey bringing Locke to it, rather than killing him?
Elias, Locke seemed to think that, but Jack had Kate go prematurely

For the record, I love Tyra but hate daytime tv, therefore don't watch the talkshow. Hasn't she gotten the memo that says Rachael Ray is Oprah's heir.
Does Rachel Ray have a talk show now too? She is a busy lady.
I've said this a few times already, but it doesn't hurt to repeat myself. The reason I am leaning towards Juliet not having evil intentions is because it just seems too obvious. Juliet has no loyalty to the Others since they outcast her. I don't buy the big con to infiltrate her into the Losties - too complicated.
She wants Jack as an ally against Sayid, Jin, etc. We also know what Juliet thinks of Jack when voyeuristic Paolo was spying seedily on her and Ben.
If I'm wrong please forget you ever read this.
If she's such an outcast, why did she have handcuff keys? That to me screams I'm still one of them.
