Sawyer must be tired from holding that thing up all day.

(sorry, couldn't resist)

I can't believe how huge this blogspot has exploded. We've never had threads with this many posts before. I find it almost exhausting, but awesome at the same time. You really can't afford to disappear for more than a few hours, otherwise you'll be way behind.

Casey, I'm sorry you didn't get the Red Sox job! I know it must be annoying for everyone to feed you cliques and tell you how awesome you are and everything, so I'll try not to say anything lame. Whatever you did, you were doing right, because it got you a call-back. So at the least, you know your efforts weren't wasted because they got you noticed, which is important.

The Office was great last night! I was so excited when I saw Andy was back! Ryan & Kelly were so funny, and I don't even need to mention Dwight.

Thinking about the Juliet loyalty issue: Last season, we had an episode titled "One of Them" and the purpose was to determine if Ben was one of them, and it turned out he was. Next week, we have Juliet's episode titled "One of Us", so if we followed the same type of logic, that would mean that Juliet would be (no longer allied with the Others).

What do you think?

PalmerEldritch said...

works for me, aimee.

things like that usually end up being less confusing than we LOST conspiracy theorists might imagine.

the OLP was pretty good this week, J. interesting that they said that Rousseau would eventually get a flashback episode. season 4 maybe? or maybe another of their pie-in-the-sky ideas that won't come to fruition?

seems every year they have all these "great" ideas that don't work out like they'd planned. the ana-lucia, jack, kate triangle that never happened, the multiple pikki episodes, etc.

Kim, thanks for the shoutout on the picture. It's purrr-fect for this board.

Casey, sorry about this job, but keep at it.

Aimee as for Juliet being "One of Us" I think she is but that it refers to her being on of the Others while Jack, who's back is One of Lostie Us. Back in SIASL Ben says to Jack:Juliet doesn't care about you, Jack. It doesn't matter what she's done. No matter what you think... she's one of us.

Ben's favorite mind fuck is when he's telling the truth but the mark just won't believe him. I think there really are hamsters too, but they may be giant smokey hamsters.

And for those of you impressed with Juliet's Kung-Fu Grip on Kate in the jungle, check out this page.

can kim from t-dot or aimee in little rock explain what the origins of the phrase "that's what she said" are? I've been watching Season 2 of The Office lately and have heard it being said a LOT, I finally found out what it meant, I just don't know how or where it started.

Like elias' post #6 on this thread ... "his rod is long and thin" ... is that something you'd answer with a "that's what she said"???

aimee is lost said...

Speaking of which, what the heck happened to Rousseau in this episode? Now that she's seen Alex, do you think she's following the Others to wherever it was they were headed?

PalmerEldritch said...

Scroll down for the pop culture origin of "That's What She Said"

did anyone watch American Idol the other day? I was waiting for Tony Bennett to come sing and got Michael Buble instead. which was disappointing but OK... until he was all slurring his words and dancing like a weirdo. what was up with that?

it'd be fantastic if since the Losties are going back to the beach and the Others are off backpacking with Locke, Rousseau moved in to the Other's village and just hung out playing pool by herself and watching TV.

Tall Guy said...

Aimee

I think's exactly where Rousseau went. She followed The Others on their trek. She may not feel she's able to approach Alex yet. but she'll be staying close. Makes sense to me.

Another matter. People have been wondering why Smokezilla didn't just flow over the sonic fence? I don't have a problem with this. We've never seen Smokezilla fly, as such. It hovers, but we've never seen it far above ground or in the tree tops. A twelve foot fence is probably beyond it.

PalmerEldritch said...

can smokezilla/lostzilla/smokemunster/themonster/smokey/flashy burrow? or was that just a hole that was previously there that it tried to drag johnny boy locke down?

PalmerEldritch said...

casey! i just read that Dice-K threw 108 pitches in his MLB debut. ack!

memphish said...

Palmer, some would say that according to the Blast Door map, Smokey, assuming Smokey is Cerberus, lives underground and rises to the surface through vents marked CV on the blast door map. Supposedly those jigsaw puzzles they sold tell you that CV means Cerberus Vent. It would make sense the Cerberus would live underground because in mythology he/they guard the entrance to Hades.

aimee is lost said...

I forgot about that for last week's podcast; I was going to discuss the completed puzzles and decoded messages! My bad. This is why I have to have notes or else I'm useless.

I can't imagine Rousseau just wandering off now. If she hasn't seen her daughter in 16 years, and JUST NOW found her, I wouldn't think she'd let her out of her sight again.

elias said...

That kung-fu grip site is hilarious.

I always thought "that's what she said" was ripped from The Office, but I do remember it from Wayne's World now.

Listening to the brand new OLP, Cuseloff have teased that Juliet may be on her own mission.

PalmerEldritch said...

yowzers. my brain asplode!

aimee is lost said...

Palmer, Lost released a series of 4 jigsaw puzzles last year that contained "spoiler information" that would only make sense when you put together all 4 of them. I bought one, Mike got another one, and Ben got the third. I don't know what Mike or Ben ended up doing with theirs, but I'd finished mine and the backs of the puzzles had glow in the dark messages that were some sort of code you had to decipher.

I hadn't thought about it in a long time, so I went to lostpedia and found the completed messages. Part of it was the definitions for all the acronyms on the blast door map. That's what I was going to discuss, because it's kind of relevant to what's going on now.

PalmerEldritch said...

jordan, i was just about to go track down that pic. crazy that you were posting it at the exact time that i was about to look at it. that's the magic of the island. thanks!

Here are what the decoded messages said:

- THERE IS NO SICKNESS
- NEED MORE MAC AND CHEESE
- PERIODIC RESUPPLY DROP
- ALVAR HANSO
- WHAT GOOD IS PEANUT BUTTER AND CEREAL WITHOUT MILK
- QUARANTINE IS A HOAX
- DHARMA INITIATIVE HANSO GROUP
- CERBERUS VENT
- EMERGENCY ESCAPE PROTOCOL

Some of the messages had letters that were underlined, identifying the unknown acronyms from the blast door map:

- P.R.D. = Periodic Resupply Drop
- A.H. = Alvar Hanso
- D.I.H.G. = Dharma Init. Hanso Group
- C.V. = Cerberus Vent
- E.E.P. = Emergency Escape Protocol

Go check out the blast door map and a lot more of it will make sense now!

aimee is lost said...

So if the smoke munster is in fact Cerberus as most of us suspect it is, those locations on the map that identify "CV" are most likely locations that the smoke munster "vents" in and out of around the island.

memphish said...

My favorite parts are the food references. But without the milk that mac and cheese isn't going to be very good either. Maybe it's Stouffer's not Kraft.

Holli

PalmerEldritch said...

you ladies are the best. thanks. so, are Ben and Company (sounds like a sitcom) using the EEPs to get into the hatches (such as the Pearl)?

aimee is lost said...

If you look at the map, there are 3 cerberus vents in close proximity to the Swan station. Probably why the 815'ers encounter the smoke munster so often. Most of the vents are on their side of the island.

PalmerEldritch said...

maybe Radzinsky didn't find the CVs on the other parts of the Island? he was pretty much a Swan Hatch based dude.

do we think that the smoke mOnster (my gift to Denass) predates the Others? predates DHARMA? is he a man made construct or a "natural phenomenon?" could he be as old as the Island? could he be the basis for the magic of the Island?

memphish said...

So Smokey could be the reason the Others haven't tried to infiltrate the Losties beach en masse like they did the Tailies beach.

In the OLP DL said that Juliet was lying or at least fudging the truth when it came to Smokey even when she claimed they didn't know what it was just that it didn't like the fence.

Holli

aimee is lost said...

Given that they only had 108 minutes roundtrip, it would make sense that we don't see as many annotations and identifications from the other end of the island. I would imagine the stuff that has been identified, was done while both Radzinsky & Kelvin were alive. One person could stay behind, while the other person had limitless time to explore.

aimee is lost said...

Now THAT would be a worthy host. Ben would take credit for all of the contestants actions, making them believe whatever they did was his idea all along. Then he would have them all marked and killed.

Sir William Osler, MD said...

I'm going to reply to a conversation that happened awhile ago.

Holli- In the OLP, I think Damon made a point to say she WASN'T all out lying, just kind of withholding the whole truth. According to how I interpreted it, he went out of his way to describe the difference between what she did and actually lying. (Obviously, he made some semi-comical joke about Carlton's appearance or the fact he wasn't wearing pants.)

And as far as the title "One of Us" goes, anyone can adapt it to support their side of whether they think Juliet is good or bad. However, based on the parallels from Season 2 ("One of Them"), it makes the most sense for Juliet to be on the survivors side, but I could see it going either way.

memphish said...

Colin, I agree that what Juliet was doing was withholding or as DL put it fudging the truth rather than out and out lying. It was interesting though that he said it applied not only to the "I've never seen it" thing, but also to "We don't know what it is." I think the Others, Juliet included, know more than she's revealing once again.

It's impossible at this point to know when and/or if the Others have any ability to tell the truth. Vozzek69 who posts weekly over at DarkUFO thinks the sickness is pathological lying at the Others are all infected with it. It's not much of stretch to buy that.

There's probably some element of the "you can't handle the truth" thing that Patchy said to Kate, Sayid, Locke and Danielle too. Juliet just hasn't thought of a way to explain things in a way Kate would be able to understand.

I turned my TV on at 8 but i missed the Office cold opening too.! Thanks Palmer & Youtube! I thought maybe there hadn't been a cold opening and that we were going to get treated to a Rashomon-style show, which would have been awesome. Seeing the world through the eyes of Kelly, Toby or Creed would be amazing. It was still an intense episode.

andrew.

Sir William Osler, MD said...

Holli, I really like that idea, about the survivors not being able to understand. With that idea, why are the Others able to understand it? Is it because they've been on the island for much longer, and the island (or Jacob) has "allowed" them to understand it?

As far as the sickness being pathological lying, that'd actually be really funny. Would Danielle kill her husband just because he's a liar? Or is she lying about everything because she has the sickness?

PalmerEldritch said...

andrew, i too was feverishly hoping for some Rashamon action. an episode of "The Invisible Man" with Eyeliner Man's real-life wife did that. hilarity ensued.

memphish, i knew it's from the office last night but it's got to be a reference to something else. right? usually, i can catch crap like that thanks to my encyclopedic knowledge of completely useless stuff. maybe i need that Six Degrees website that Aimee and someone were talking about the other week.

Happy Easter weekend bloggers. I celebrated by seeing Shooter last night, then stopping at McDonalds for a Cabury Egg McFlurry. (That's the only thing I'd eat off their menu)

Palmer, I am also very greatful that Aimee et al. do most of the research in regards to LOST. In school, I was the same way. "Just give me the Coles notes and I'm good." (Cliff Notes = Coles notes north of the border) I know--we have a different name for everything. It's like we're trying to carve out our own indentity or something *shruggs* ;)

I still believe Juliet is a dirtbag. I just don't trust her lying face!

Hey, I gotta question for those of you with the super Lost memories. Regarding Jack and Juliet. Have we ever seen anything where Jules told Jack her back story? What I'm getting at is, do we know for a fact that Jack knows her deal? We do from her flashback, but does Jack? Or is he just cool with her because they have gotten to know each other?

The reason I ask is now with Juliet on the beach everybody is going to be very cold to her. And of course Jack is going to try to vouch for her. Whether or not the beach people know her story will likely lead them to either view her as "one of them" or "one of us".

And yeah, why is it that some of the girlies on here have such venom for Jules? She may be hiding something and not totally up front, but I don't see her character as totally unlikable. In fact, I find her quite likable. To me she is much more likable and sympathetic than Ana Lucia ever was.

Sir William Osler, MD said...

Is it just me, or does every woman on this board hate Juliet?

And Kim, what are you doing eating at McDonald's? If you were a ture Canadian, you'd be eating at Tim Horton's. I remember when I was like four and my family went to Canada, I ate there. It was delicious. I suppose they've expanded into the US by now, but there are none where I live.

Anonymous said...

LOL...I usually don't go to Tim Horton's because I don't drink coffee. I hate it. 90% of Canadians would chop off thier right arm from Tim Horton's coffee. Not me. But I do like Timbits which are the greatest thing ever.

Anonymous said...

I don't like Juliet because she's a liar. She's like that Medusa spider. She's got Jack all tangled in her web, and Jack has the influence to sway the 815ers opinion of her when they get back on the island. If she is exposed as the liar she is...therefore Jack's reputation for being a level headed, stand-up guy is tarnished.

(Of course, watch the exact opposite happen in next weeks episode)

Sir William Osler, MD said...

Wow, Jordan. You beat me by seconds on bringing up the blogspot ladies' hatred of Juliet. She's definately more likable than Ana-Lucia (and much better looking). Juliet has grown on me over the past season. Obviously, we don't know what her overall motivations are, but that makes her character even better.

memphish said...

Jordan, I don't think Jack or basically any of our Losties know anybody's back story. We've seen Juliet tell Jack she's a fertility specialist, she's been there 3+ years and implicitly she wants to go home. Tom says she has a history with Ben. She throws a football like a total girl. That's about all we know for sure.

Kate tried to tell Jack her back story when he killed the Marshal for her, but he stopped her. Jack has the most severe case of curiosity amnesia of any of the Losties.

BTW, I'm listening to Rump Shaker as I type.

Holli

Jordan said...

Yeah palmer, that site is pretty cool. Although it takes some of the fun out of the game if you use it to cheat. I like using it to see the most ridiculous connections I can come up with. For example, you can link Mini-Me with Charlie Chaplin in 3 moves:

Verne Troyer was in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2001) with Derek Deadman

Derek Deadman was in Funny Money (1982) with Marianne Stone

Marianne Stone was in Countess from Hong Kong, A (1967) with Charles Chaplin

Sir William Osler, MD said...

Kim- good comparison with the Medusa spider. And I really don't think Juliet is that big of a liar. At least, not to Jack. Unless I'm forgetting something, she's told Jack the truth from the beginning. At some points, she's refused to answer a question because she didn't want to lie to him. The only time we've seen Juliet lie was with the whole Left Behind situation, which, as far as I'm concerned had a pretty good explanation.

Please, correct me if I'm wrong. I'm sure I'm forgetting a time when she lied.

memphish said...

Colin, Even if Juliet isn't telling literal untruths, she's always tried to act like Jack's friend but in reality has assisted in a plot to kidnap him and his actual friends; consented to the kidnapping of 3 children and however many more adult; and refuses to answer Jack's questions that might explain WTF is really going on with vague things like "it's complicated." Her simpering trust me crap even tho I've done nothing but mess with your head is what drives me over the edge about her.

Sir William Osler, MD said...

Holli, you're absolutely right. I'm interested to see her flashback next episode so we can find out what motivated her to do things; there may be a perfectly good reason. Regardless, everyone on that island has done some pretty bad things. Sayid was a torturer. Kate was a fugitive and a murderer. Maybe Juliet just wants a second chance, like most of the people on that island. Or maybe she's just a lying whore. I'm pumped for next week.

PalmerEldritch said...

colin, maybe she's a lying whore who wants a second chance. the two aren't mutually exclusive.

memphish said...

Trust me Palmer, that's not what she said.

It doesn't matter if Kate is a liar or not, she's not making claims to be a good person who should be trusted just because when the reality is Jack's been tricked into coming across the island and shot with a dart and tied up and given more drugs and has his blood taken and had his friends lives threatened unless he operated on Ben.

When Kate tricked Jack about the case it did interfere with their relationship. Same as when she followed the men in The Hunting Party. That's why it doesn't make sense that Jack would trust Juliet blindly (St. Lucy) without more than his experience of her actions to go on.

Holli

Holli

Sir William Osler, MD said...

Haha Palmer, you are correct. Though if she wanted a second chance...wouldn't she try to stop being a lying whore?

And as far as Tim Horton's is concerned, it's okay. There aren't too many stereotypes about Canadians and that just happens to be one of the few. Aside from that, there's the accent. And the idea that they have no military. Any others? By the way Kim, I hope you're not getting offended. But everyone should list off the typical Canadian stereotypes.
