Hi guys...

I never want to edit a podcast again. I was going to kill myself this week. Regardless, enjoy. I think we're beginning to take a page from the S&S days, about 75% LOST content. (If you haven't seend the finale of The Office--for whatever reason--we talk about it...just so you're warned)

mb said...

luck be a TLI-cast pablo.

No one will forget you around here

I for one appreciate all the work, Kim.

Once I finish work I'll get it all sucked down the pipr onto my little noise box.

Yes!

Sweet MB, hey I don't wanna take any attention away from TLI, but I JUST heard R&B's 'cast with Jorge, OMMMG. I was so giddy, so surreal, bow bitches!

question for kim and or MB, what do you guys record into? what software? I heard r&B mention troubles with their template. no reason, just curious.

pablo, i like the R&B abbreviation. but that makes me think of them as Rocksteady and Bebop from TMNT for some reason. which is pretty sweet in and of itself.

kim, thanks for taking the time to record and edit a podcast for us.

Heroes thoughts, kim?

Jordan said...

Kim, you are amazing. Don't for a second think your efforts go ignored. I can't even imagine what you go through editing TLI. And as for only 75% Lost, I like it like that. You guys are great when you go off topic. It's what many of us like about you guys and differentiates you from the multitude of overly-analytical lostcasts out there. It's the reason those big shot Dharmalars became so popular. Well, that and Jay & Jack mentioning them every 5 minutes. lol. Thanks again Kim. You are the best!

mb said...

Pablo -
I use Garageband for recording an editing, and Wiretap for recording Mac's voice(s) (puts it into an mp3 - nice little app). I have had some issues with sound quality output (as I'm sure has been obvious), but I use a crappy tiny-ass mic now, so I'm sure that's my main problem. I need to spend a few bucks on something a little better

Palmer, I felt let down by Heroes. "Five Years Gone" felt more like the season finale. Why didn't Peter use his powers? Can't he use different powers at the same time? It seemed like everyone--EVERYONE--was too busy watching Peter and not DOING anything to help him. It was nice to see my girl Simone, I wish she'd be back for good.

So there's someone more evil than Sylar?? A lot of foreshadowning for season 2. WTF is up with Grandma Petrelli, what's her damage?

*Sigh* Oh well, I still heart Heroes

PastPablo said...

Hey MB, i've never actually heard your segment lol, i avoid you like the plague actually. But i saw ralph say his setup is shite, when infact their podcast sounds AS good as j&j's to me.

lmao @ rocksteady & beebop

The Scott & Steve Famalam really spoiled us this week. Looking forward to listening to the new Lost Initiative.

-i now have the whole Heroes marathon + the finale on my DVR, so i'm having to skim the blogspot these days. I've only seen 2 episodes of Heroes, so everything is a spoiler to me. I decided I couldn't wait for the DVDs to take another stab at the show.

-Kim, i'm afraid of clicking on your links. I'm completely spoiler free for the finale. I even turned MB off last week (sorry, i'll go back and listen after the rattlesnake bite)

-I watched the "Lost: Answers" recap show last night. I really enjoyed it actually. Having Cuseloff on the show makes it interesting because it helps illuminate their thoughts on certain characters and plot points and puts to bed a bunch questions raised by the internet community overanalyzing the show.

-Happy to see everybody on the thread!

kim, yeah. nice to know we're thinking the same thing about heroes. hopefully, next season will be as good as this season and i can forget about being disappointed with the finale. i really do think we're spoiled by LOST's great finales.

EW Article on Heroes Finale

Jordan said...

I agree with you Kim. Five Years Gone did seem much more finale like. I think Peter wasn't able to fly because he was losing control of everything. And it's a possibility that he might not be able to use more than one power at once. I don't remember ever seeing him do so.

I think what made this episode a tad bit underwhelming is that it played out as expected. We're so used to Lost's "You think you know, but you have no idea" reveals that it seemed a bit of a let down to not have a huge shocker.

There were a few things I did like in the episode. It was pretty cool to see Nikki take control of her powers and step up against Sylar. And it was cute to see her, DL, and Micah sorta take in Molly when everything was going crazy. Yeah, I don't know how Parkman can survive all those gun shots. When Mr. Bennett told Peter his name, I was all like, "ok, now he's gonna die."

I'm really looking forward to finding out who Molly was talking about. Is this foreshadowing for the new big baddy in season 2? If so, where is Sylar going to fit in the scheme of things? One thing I could've used, a better cliffhanger/intro to volumn 2. Hiro being back in time doesn't get me too excited. I'm also looking forward to the 6 origin story episodes that they are going to do during the offseason. And apparently they are going to have fans vote as to who they want as a part of the show. They probably won't incorporate them until season 3. But that's still cool and gives us something during the hiatus. Anybody know when those ep's might be?

t-dot kim said...

Taco Bell does serve fries!!! They're awesome. I was surprised that you didn't have them in the US. Fries Supreme = wicked

PastPablo said...

lol thats so wierd to me, i was on the phone with my bud, and in passing i mentioned that i was eating taco bell, and he asks about fries, haha i asked if he was joking. I questioned him for about 20 more minutes 'cause i thought he was fulla shit. Wierd!!

PalmerEldritch said...

taco bell serves fries? where do they fit the grade D meat into the fries?

if there are no bowel shaking ramifications, why eat anything from Taco Bell?

Jordan said...

You guys don't dip your fries in mayonaise, do you? I traveled throughout Europe and was seemingly all over the place people were dipping their fries in giant globs of mayo, not ketchup. I was at a McDonalds in France and they gave me a bunch of mayo packets with my fries. I was like, "what the hell is this for?" lol.

t-dot kim said...

At McDonalds in Australia they serve beets!

PastPablo said...

Palmer - Nothing, and I mean NOTHING gets my stomach turning like a good #6 from taco bell.

I think Molly was talking about Sauron right? I'm not a big LOTR person, so maybe I got the name wrong, but when Frodo wears the ring, Sauron can "see" him if I recall.

Jordan, could be on the multi-power use. Still doesn't make sense to me much less that the radioactive fallout wouldn't affect the city still (kind of like back in Texas), but I'm ignoring that point. Why do we cut Heroes so many more breaks than we do LOST?

So I frequent one other forum from this blogspot. It's football related, pertaining to the Seattle Seahawks. Anyway, there are subforums and there is a thread about Heroes on the offtopic one. I'm reading people's comments on last night's show (which btw are a lot more positive than here. i wonder what that means? probably that we here are overanalytical dorks who need to chill. lol) and anyway, I get to this comment:

"I don't think we've seen the last of the Patrelli brothers. And the really cool thing about next season? Claire will be LEGAL!"

lmao. But I do agree. ;)

Kim,

as someone who lived in Oz and NZ for a long time, I can tell you there is nothing better than beets on a burger! In fact, McDonalds in NZ used to have (maybe still do) the "Kiwi Burger". Beef, tomato, onions, the usual, but the gloriousness of having a slice of beet and a runny egg :) God, I love egg burgers (another NZ speciality).

I'll also send sympathies and Kudos to both MB and Kim with the editing hassles.

Yes...I can totally relate. it either goers OK or is a complete disaster. The worst was hen I did the Lost Score segment for "Tricia Tanaka is Dead" it took me unbelievably 11 hours straight. It nearly drove me to tears. On the bright side, it was the episode I got the most positive feedback from...I think a lot of that had to do with the fact it was all about Hurley.

MB...you asked via email ages ago, and I am a terrible writer. To overcome DRM issues in GarageBand/iTunes, I just play the tracks off my iPod via "line in input" and populate the tracks that way.

Where in Oz did you meet your wife?

I've joked my life can be cut into quarters. The short version is (approx)
0-10 England
10-20 NZ
20-30 Europe, NZ, Australia, USA
30 - 40 USA

I have 2 citizenships, and 4 permanent residencies. If Dad wasn't an engineer, none of this would have happened. They (Mum, Dad, Brother) all live in Australia now.

Listening to TLI right this minute...been a busy one today!

memphish said...

Thanks for the spoiler clearance MB. At this point I'm saving it because of scheduling issues. While I'm not as backed up podcast-wise as Dre, I've got to pick and choose heading into finale night. I'd rather listen to predictions afterwards to see if they are right than get some idea in my head about what might happen. I'm trying to perform a Haitian mind wipe on my expectations for tomorrow.

Cool idea I stole from another blog -- what if Jack has "the sickness?" He looks like hell, is pulling major crazy Jack faces and isn't the most rational guy in the world as Aimee's Jack rant early in TLI proves. Maybe Danielle will shoot him too. They didn't manage to take her gun away from her did they?

Anyone have any ideas about games we can play tomorrow? I don't have any good generator ideas. There isn't a "Stalking Neurosurgeon Son of an Alcoholic Asshole" Name generator anywhere I can find. And if there was, we'd all be named Jack Shephard.

Holli

Jordan said...

So I got a theory. It's not entirely thought through, so bare with me. The Looking Glass station's logo is a white rabbit, right? White rabbit = Alice in Wonderland, The Looking Glass = the rabbit hole in Alice in Wonderland. Why & how? I have no clue. Does the looking glass station look into the "real world"? I don't really know what I'm getting at here. Just something that hit me while listening to the girls today.

memphish said...

Jordan, I definitely think that TLG is the way the Others get onto the Island. I don't get how it works, but I think when Juliet drank her happy OJ she was brought to TLG, put on the sub and then woke up at the dock.

So my theory on Michael and Walt is then that the heading 325 took them to TLG. I don't know what they found when they got there, but I'm sure Ben does. I'd guess they found Bonnie and the other one who gave them happy OJ and sent them back to the real world.

GREETINGS! Ghostwatch here. Thanks for the kind words aimed in the direction of my bizarre wandering ramble. Note how my voice wanders from well-spoken orator to EastEnders with nary a pause.

Actual LOST talk:

Sorry to paste in stuff I put on another forum but I can't be arsed to reword my reason behind Charlie's swimming ability so open your eyes extra wide to fit this massive pasting in:

===============================
Physics, guys!

Jump in water holding big weights - go downwards

A good few feet down release weights - pressure makes you go upwards again and you can steer yourself with feet.

You don't need to swim to do that - people who say they can't swim merely mean that they can't maintain a position on the surface of the water without sinking. Since the whole plan is to sink anyway then you only have to worry about coming up. So the different pressure pushing you up coupled with the fact you have a solid surface above you (ie silly underwater hatch) means even a non-swimmy guy can perform this feat without accidentally going all the way to the top again. The very reason he has the weight in the first place is even a top notch swimmer wouldn't be able to fight the pressure pushing them upwards without weights.

NOW - making the best use of whatever oxygen you have in your lungs is a totally different matter.
===============================

Also - about the flooded station. I don't think the question is really whether Juliet was intentionally lying. The question is actually: has the accuracy of Desmond's flashes fallen off? I guess we'll have to wait and see if the place does actually flood before Charlie hist the emergency plunger.

Well - talk at you all soon.

JG

Ralph- said...

Once Charlie dumps the weights, he definitly swims. he looks like a full on swimmer. even jorge said that he appeared to be swimming.

Johnny Ghostwatch said...

Oh, man. I only posted it on the other forum as the theories were starting to get a little strange.

If I'm being honest I'm more on the side of "whoops" on behalf of the production team.

Also, note my modest new name.

What about my Desmond thing, Ralph-O?

memphish said...

Ghostwatch, I enjoyed the call on TLI today. Good, funny stuff.

I'm greatly afraid that Charlie's willingness to swim is somehow related to Desmond's key turning. Time travel hurts my head though. I'm willing to write it off to mere sinking and survival searching for air, but I agree with Ralph that Charlie looked like he was swimming.

As for Desmond, I think his interpretation of his flashes have always been shaky at best, and I think that the swat on the head with the oar will stop them.

Glad you've found your way to the blogspot. I'm impressed with your late posting. It must be the middle of the night in the UK.

Late TiVo alert, Jorge is on Kimmel tonight. I'm going to trust that someone will have it on YouTube or Lost-Media for my hiatus viewing pleasure.

Holli

Johnny Ghostwatch said...

It is currently a little after 3:40am here in Ye Olde London Town. I an not a normal man.

Are you suggesting the Desmond Fixing Crap Throughout Time theory?

I like it but then you get into the can of worms that linear time being what it was any fixing would still have happened prior to the presious assertion that Charlie "doesn't" swim.

I've given it some thought and I think he can now swim because he was fortunate that the sonic fence's voltage wasn't set at a lethal level.

Eh?

Trevor McFur said...

Tomorrow night can't get here soon enough. I just spent 5 minutes staring at the link to the detailed spoiler page on the dark ufo site; fortunately I was able to fight off the temptation to click it. I hope that it's busy at work tomorrow, more time working means less time surfing for trouble. That's the first time I've ever said that...

memphish said...

Yeah Ghostwatch, I'm suggesting that Desmond did something to time whether it's help or hurt I don't know. Like I said, I don't understand how multiple time lines could work in either of my Woman of Science or Woman of Faith worlds. I'm not a Woman of Science Fiction despite my recent forays into Heinlein.

I think we're over-thinking this Charlie doesn't swim issue.
No good tv tonight, except for The Shield.

PalmerEldritch said...

i'm reiterating the "charlie stopped being such a wuss and manned up to save his woman" theory. it's a lot easier than time travel hijinks.

how the hell do you spell hijinks?

mb, i'll listen to you and mac after 11 tomorrow night. not that it isn't freakishly tempting.

p.s. i'll also second my "charlie don't swim but the dude can sink" theory. kind of a "that wasn't swimming; that was sinking with style!" theory.

Ralph- said...

Ghost, i think that the place will flood, and desmond would try to save Charlie before he dies, but the problem is, is that charlie knocked him out.

So charlie caused his own death.

Great podcast ladies, but - and I hope you don't take this the wrong way - I'm getting a little tired of Aimee's anti-Jack vitriol. Just wouldn't mind if you toned it down a little -- we get you hate Jack but there's little point constantly re-iterating it when we already get it. I was sensing that even Kim felt a little bit the same way by the end. But yeah, otherwise, great work, and I hope you don't mistake a little criticism for hate-mail because I very much enjoy your podcast.

Elias - great catch on the James Blunt during our Office speak...we kinda got off topic for a while :(

All my shows are comiing to an end!! The Office, Heroes, 24, DWTS is over and my pick from the beginning won! Apolo!!! AI is wrapping up tomorrow, and Jordin (my long lost sister) WILL win! Tomorrow LOST will be amazing!

So thanks MACE, for sparing me my sanity, as well as a n f-load of $$ ;)
Also - I apologize for calling you Mayes on the SPLOG and on the podcast (and maybe here too) - don't know what the hell I was smokin'.
OH - and also Mace - SERIOUSLY...your initials are MB?!?!?! wow - then yeah Aimee, I am also curious as to just how many of TLI's listeners are MB's - this could be a little strange - lol

I must disagree with anonymous J re: Aimee's Jack rants (this one in particular), I was laughing my ass off walking the dog (making everyone who passed me a bit uneasy I'm sure). I am a Jack fan, but I love listening to Aimee pour it out of her. It's like listening to a stand-up comic vamp for a minute - hilarious. Never doubt where TLI gets it's SAS from.

Ghostwatch - funny stuff - this was one of those things in the podcast that made me laugh on the dogwalk and made some nice passing mother and kids look at me like perhaps they should increase their velocity moving away from me - lol

And - re: summer podcasts - I AM going to be keeping an eye out for any news about Season 4 (which I can't imagine will be plentiful yet - if any even exists), and if there is something to report - I can put a segment together.

As far as ideas for the dynamic duo for SUMMER podcasting - I was listening to you guys on your first ever effort (titled "Something Special from the Lost Initiative" - true say indeed), and I loved the idea of the "Ask a Lost Girl" segment - where you lovely ladies take random questions from your adoring fans. Sounds like perfect fodder for off-season podcasting - a million topic themes are already swimming through my head (if you wanted to THEME it up).

Anyway - you guys rock as always - thanks for the effort and time you put in to put smiles on many faces!

Johnny Ghostwatch said...

Aw, shucks. Thanks for all those, as the kids say, "big ups" - but I didn't do nuthin special.

I was just talking "the bollocks".

Darryl Cunningham said...

Ghostwatch.

Iain Lee, is indeed, a talent free zone.

Johnny Ghostwatch said...

Oh, and the camera move I talk about during the "I actually have something slightly worth saying" portion of my call is visible in the one-off UK Halloween drama Ghostwatch (just stick that in a search engine and you'll find loads of tasty stuff). Short of pointing you at a link to a naughty illegalism or ripping the scene onto YouTube I wasn't sure how best to describe it until I found this on a website. It's basically the Jacob camera move in reverse (I'm not saying they nicked it - it just made me smile with "The Recognitions":

===================================
I had noted Pipes only four times during my first viewing, all pretty overt: that initial videotape, the opening of the storeroom, in a burst of static, and one brilliant moment when the cameraman turns around in the girls' bedroom, passing Pipes in a quick swish-pan... then when the camera snaps back, he is gone. Great moment.

My thoughts on where Michael and Walt went. They were picked up by the sub and taken to the Looking Glass, from where they went back to the world.

Johnny Ghostwatch said...

World - don't hate us for Iain Lee. In all fairness I've sometimes found him "slightly" watchable when he's on a subject he slightly understands (videogames etc) but even then he just grates slightly. He must have an amazing deal with Satan to remain in such steady employment despite a lack of charisma or any affinity for the subject matter he's talking about.

At least on a podcast you don't gaze upon his hideous visage.

LOOK, WORLD! LOOK AT IAIN LEE!

http://tinyurl.com/36lb6j

ARGH! Imagine that coming at you out of the dark.

We in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland cannot apologise enough for forcing Iain Lee into your ears. All we can do is offer this scant compensation:

At least it wasn't Colin Murray.

I'll be shocked if Ryan and Tom get out of season three alive.

im really annoyed by the people that have nanos only that review the games on itunes. i really want to buy some of them but if a lot of people rate it low, i wont. there are like 50 people like this guy:

i dont have this game but i might get it u kno?

dont review the damn game until you buy it!

Malcolm in RVA said...

ryan = pickett, so everyone hates him. tom is cool, but he took walt and shot sawyer.

memphish said...

Malcolm, the game is the same one available for mobile phones. Maybe you can find more reviews for it that way.

Dom on The View. New sneek peek in the video.
The women are so annoying. Too many asking questions at one time.

Malcolm in RVA said...

thanks holli. ill check it out, but i dont think ill get it. im going back and forth, but its probably gonna suck.

Trevor McFur said...

I downloaded the game last night ... just a first impression, but it seems pretty simplistic and weak. It's one of those, "run here, find that, come back here" games. Maybe it'll get better at higher levels. It's only 5 bucks, so, you get what you pay for. Maybe a decent diversion if you're using the bathroom and don't have magazine.

Malcolm in RVA said...

yeah. havent heard anything that great about it. im not gonna buy it. hopefully the real ubisoft game will come out on the wii, or at least ps2, and ill get to play it then.

Malcolm in RVA said...

trevor, if you like arcade games, get tetris and pac man. there awesome on the ipod. some review people said the controls suck, but i like them. they feel really natural. i havent actually bought pacman, but i got the ms pac man free demo. tetris is awesome.

Trevor McFur said...

I have Ms. Pacman, but haven't played much, thought the controls were a little awkward. Maybe I'll start playing a bit and try to get used to them. I play Zuma a lot, that's like an ideal game for the iPod with the wheel. And Tetris is always a winner.

Malcolm in RVA said...

i got tetris yesterday, and ive been playing it all day since. my eyes hurt.

Malcolm in RVA said...

SQUIGGLEY SQUIGGLEY LEGS!!!

yeah. the controls for ms pac man were awkward at first, but i really like them. it almost feels like a joystick.

Malcolm in RVA said...

the ipod has great potential for games. my friend had a hack where he could play doom on his ipod, and it worked good. there are enough combinations and such you can do to put the average nes/genesis game port on there, plus a completely original kick-jump-punch sidescrolling platformer. im looking forward to it. the only thing i ask is that they try to keep it 2d. 3d games like lost on the ipod dont look good. something looks weird about it.

Malcolm in RVA said...

i hope that the next gen of ipod, after the piece of shit iphone, has modified controls and stuff to fit games on it. i like the idea of a gaming system where you can buy games online, straight to your ipod. i really like the wii vc stuff. it'll be kinda like that.

Trevor McFur said...

Upgraded controls would be nice. Even for a game that is easy to control, I start getting some major hand cramps after 15 min or so. Not to mention that any game seems to drain the battery like a mofo.

Stephanie said...

Josh Holloway is the new face of Cool Water. Perfect!

Malcolm in RVA said...

im usually not away from home and using my ipod for more than 5 hours at the greatest, so the battery draining isnt much of a problem. also, ive noticed that when watching movies, at least, the thing says the battery is dead, but in fact it'll last for another few hours.

Malcolm in RVA said...

wtf?!? what does

JOSH HOLLOWAY, FACE OF DAVIDOFF COOL WATER FRAGRANCE

mean?

Malcolm in RVA said...

does anyone here watch the boondocks? do you know when the second season is starting up?

Let's assume that the LOSTies are able to use the sat phone to contact Naomi's ship. If the ship sends another helicopter, why wouldn't it just crash like Naomi's did? If they send the ship, how can it then escape the Island's pull instead of just going in cirles like Desmond's did?

In honor of Christian Shephard, I've found a Random Cocktail Generator. I intend to have it mix me up several different cocktails over the course of the day.

My morning cocktail is:

Upholder Cocktail

1½ oz riesling
1 oz OP Anderson aquavit
½ oz lime juice
½ oz advocaat
5 drops Grand Marnier
Shake vigorously with lump ice until thoroughly blended and creamy.

Pip-pip chappers. Here is my supery dupery random cocktail:

Incarnadined Wheeler Cocktail

Chill cocktail glass. Prepare as follows:

Muddle in cocktail shaker eau de melisse & sea salt with a dash of falernum.

In pre-chilled cocktail shaker combine

* 2 oz Beefeater London Dry Gin
* ¾ oz St. Raphael
* ½ oz Dry Sack
* 1 tsp. espresso
* 2 drops Benedictine

Fill shaker with small lumps of ice, grip tightly with both hands, and execute a seizure for fifteen seconds.

Strain into chilled cocktail glass.

Sounds tasty. Bad name though. With that much "Beefeaters" I suggest it be renamed The Nosh

Conflicting Chamberlain Cocktail

Chill cocktail glass. Prepare as follows:

In pre-chilled cocktail shaker combine

2½ oz American apple brandy
½ oz Vov
1 tsp. orange juice
2 tsp lemon syrup
Do the Mambo whilst shaking with fresh snow.

Strain into chilled cocktail glass.

Cool generator. I had been thinking that it was a little quiet on the board for the last Lostnesday for the next 8 months.

My cocktail:

Plagiarizing Freeze Cocktail
Chill cocktail glass. Prepare as follows:

In pre-chilled cocktail shaker combine

2 oz apple flavored vodka
¾ oz lime juice
½ oz beer
2 tsp goldwasser
Add all ingredients except the beer. Oscillate at 60hz with copious quantities of ice for fifteen seconds.

Strain into chilled cocktail glass.

Top with beer.

I'm an evening/nightime drinker, so maybe I'll enjoy one with Lost tonight. That or a beer.

Trevor McFur said...

Totally unLost-related, but has anyone heard about this Sanjaya nonsense? That he's basically a performance artist using American Idol as his graduating thesis? That's crazy...

Happy Lostnesday, everyone!

jellymanianos - Hope you're wrong on the prediction. For those that care, I'll take the Reds to win 2-1.

Love the weekly genrators! Here is my morning cocktail, with a bird-related name. How appropriate.

Quail Cocktail
Chill cocktail glass. Prepare as follows:
In pre-chilled cocktail shaker combine
2 oz traditional schnapps
1 oz bianco vermouth
½ oz Tom & Jerry mix
2 drops Melon-flavored schnapps liqueur
Do the Mambo whilst shaking with a small iceberg.
Strain into chilled cocktail glass.

I didn't realize I'd have to learn to dance to make a cocktail. Guess that's why I prefer beer.
