NICE Jimmy!

Also,
I posted this on the last thread (yes...it was after this one was up...I'm somewhat fatigued):

Jordan, Holli, Palmer, Kim - re: Danielle giving Alex to Ben - I remember the blogspot having this conversation about a year ago and I seem to remember that we all agreed that something fishy was up with how she had been on the island for 16 years but claims never to have seen the (now destroyed) flame station where Mikhail was.

My idea back then (and I think it still holds) is almost what you all said -
right after her team died from "the sickness" she recorded the French message at the transmitter tower, and then had Alex 3 days later (just watched TTLG). My thought was (and is) that the Others found her (maybe because she changed the transmission, maybe because just because they found her and the team) and considering their interest in children, offered to take Alex saying they could protect her from "the sickness", and in return Danielle was never allowed to come after them or Alex - perhaps they even threatened harm to Alex if she did. This would explain why her knowledge of the island seems to be somewhat limited for someone who's been there for 16 years.

Ben may very well have been one of the team that came to Danielle which would explain her recognizing him. Or maybe Ben was doing something suspicious when Danielle found him (in "One of Them") that made her think he was an Other.

mb said...

ALSO posted this (god I'm spaced):

Just looked back over the blog discussion for Enter 77 last year and Palmer said:

"Something to keep in mind about Danielle is that she said that the Smoke Munster was some sort of "security system." Why does she say this? For shits and giggles? It's possible. She is batshit insane. But it's possible that the Smoke Munster has been keeping her out of areas where she could have learned about the Others or DHARMA"

That still makes sense and is also possible - nice Palmer!

More Lost for Dummies:

The "enhanced" repeat of Lost's season finale last week will be extended to other repeats. Starting Feb. 14, reruns of the prior week's episode (Thursdays, 8 ET/PT) will include on-screen pop-up graphics that explain references and characters.

Yuck!

Holli

Chris JC said...

In the US, is there not a way of broadcasting that which would make the pop ups optional?

In the UK, especially on the BBC, if you have a digital receiver you can "press the red button" and get everything from on screen pop ups (eg for lyrics on The Eurovision Song Contest) or a different audio stream (for commentaries on the repeats of Doctor Who).

memphish said...

Chris, This isn't like closed captioning where you can choose to see the poor transcriptions or not. This is "bonus material" that they think we want. Problem is most of the stuff is super cheesy, e.g. Jack on a bridge about to jump off and it says "Jack is in despair." Duh. For me the other big problem is who wrote this stuff, someone with the show or some ABC chowderhead?

Holli

Chris JC said...

That sucks. Yeah, I realised it was hard encoded so you couldn't avoid it - it's just a shame they DIDN'T make it optional, as I'm sure not everyone watching the rerun wants screenfuls of that crap. i was just wondering if the technology existed for them to do that if the realised that it was a dumb idea forcing it on everyone.

memphish said...

Well I think most LOST viewers do have the technology to avoid it. It's called record the episode when it airs the first time and rewatch at will. Or watch it on the Internet. These pop-up things are clearly aimed at the "new" viewer they think they are attracting given the dearth of programming thanks to the strike.

Things to not do while drinking
Cut and Paste your folder labled Itunes along with 8 other albums you wanted to move to a back up hard drive. then notice the error and quit in the middle in short things don't turn out well!
A little advice back everything up 9 ways sideways in sure glad i did i was having night mares of putting disk after disk in. But i found a folder labled itunes in my back up said what the hell and in rushed all 3000+ songs.
But it doubled all my Thrid season lost so I got extras if you need a Par Avion or T T L G!!!

Trevor McFur said...

I wonder who wrote the pop-up episodes too. I bet some ABC person. I haven't heard the WGA piping up about it, so maybe it's somehow allowed by reality writers or something.

When is this strike gonna end anyway?

PalmerEldritch said...

mb, i made a lot of sense... back then, anyhow. we'll probably have to wait for a Rousseau flashback to find out for sure.

what if we found out that Rousseau had access to Dharma Showers all these years but she was all sweaty and smelly just cuz she was a bad french stereotype?

something to think about.

Rrb said...

Elias brought up a great idea in his email to tli. he thought maybe Jack may have saw his father the way Hurley was seeing Charlie! I've been thinking on this.
And coming around the bush on jizz island all night at work(boxers are better then t shirts with this fraze). Back to elias great thought I,m on board!
Also the less made up in Hurleys head the better for me I'm for real anwsers not, the Ohh he just imagened that! I REALLY hope it's not all in his head like that movie with John cusack Identity(one of my top 5 actors) I didnt like it..it seems weird you could invent a LALA land to live in in your head with out knowing!(Iguess i'm not crazy enough yet).

Sorry Thank You holli! Great thought i dug and still dig it makes alot of sense and stays way believable for me at least i like the stuff that can be explained in the real world.
It makes the show sci fi reality tv ifit can be proved sorta..

who's in the coffin again?

andrew. said...

- i'm wearing my Dharmalars shirt today! (i even considered wearing it on Monday, but then thought 'no, i'll wear it on Thurlostay') i'm a dork!

- i like the theory that Rousseau gave up Alex like Claire was going to give up Aaron. She then spent 16 years avoiding the others, in part because she was 'trying to survive by avoiding contact' & in part because the smoke munster keeps her away. Her encounters with the losties, like Sayid smooth talking her from her torture-matic adjustable bed & fixing her music box, & forgiving her for stealing babies, gave her the courage to get involved & take on the others.
of course, just a few days ago i said i liked the theory that she was from a 16 year earlier attempt to infiltrate the island by the people on the freighter.
Rousseau flashback please!

- i'm a little confused on the whole team Jack vs team Locke thing.
* Hurley & beardo Jack seem to regret leaving the island, which implies that Locke & Jacob/the island were right, that they shouldn't have trusted the freighters.
* but during their game of h-o-r-s-e, Hurley apologizes to Jack for siding with Locke
* Cindy hasn't weighed in on this debate (ooh, i'm totally voting for Cindy to be one of the Oceanic 6. The brave stewardess that survived the whole ordeal = TV-news gold!)

- If the Others are somehow able to leave the island without the sub (magic boxin' it (TWSS)) do you think they'll show up in flashforwards to mess with our Losties? or do you think they're content on the island?

- Hooray! It's the day that Eli Stone comes on (even though i'm not watching that shit)!!

mb said...

Andrew - I also like the theory that Rousseau's team was trying to infiltrate the island, and it could also be true. It could just have been a small team that was ill-equipped and didn't know what they were getting into (as seems to be the case with most people who come to the island). It's even possible that they are related in some way to the Freighties. Now that would be a cool twist.

[ally] said...

the one time i decide to click on a link and it wasn't working, lol.

Happy Chinese New Year!

/i already got my red envelope. which probably means nothing to anyone here.

PalmerEldritch said...

was Rosseau there with a team of scientists? who promptly died? whom?!

i think i remember that. it certainly lends itself to the "Rousseau as a past Freightie" theory.

i think that we can safely limit the Oceanic 6 to people who could be explained as part of the 815 crash. so, no Others, no Hostiles, no Rousseau, no Alex, no younglings besides Walt, the other abducted kids from the plane, and Aaron. which, andrew, does leave Cindy as a definite (and foxy?) possibility!

What the hell ever happened to "the sickness". Still coming? What are people's thoughts?

Chris JC said...

I'm getting drunk just by READING the blogspot today.

Trevor McFur said...

I bet that the sickness is a creation of the crafty Benry Gale. I like the idea that he used it as a way to pry Alex away from Danielle. And maybe to drive her crazy enough to kill off her party?

andrew. said...

We only heard about the sickness from Rousseau right?
Maybe Rousseau was signed up for a science expedition, but some members of her team were moles trying to infiltrate the island. The others retaliated with a gas attack. Rousseau was confused, mistook the behavior of her traitoros colleagues & the gas-deaths as symptoms of a disease.

some problems & attempts to explain:
-Desmond & the vaccines: the vaccines could be an antidote to the gas. the others/hostiles were on a mission to wipe out D.H.A.R.M.A. so Kelvin & Radzinski were at constant risk of getting gassed. the enter-77 message at the flame station implied that D.H.A.R.M.A. was well aware of the threat of the others/hostiles & taking militarized precautions.

- Claire's sickness - this was the implant-released sickness that Juliet had the antidote for. This further implies that the others/hostiles were making biological attacks & with Alpert actively recruiting scientists off-island, it seems they could continue to develop biological warfare technology

so, in short, i think the sickness is a weapon & not an island phenomenon. I'm not sure how the show would be able to convey all of this to the viewers, so i'm not sure if it will be addressed in the future or not.

Stephanie said...

I've been wondering the same thing. Here's what I have thought as a possibility. Hurley said that he should've stayed with Jack because with Hurley and Locke's crew going their own way, they left Jack's group more vulnerable to the freighter people or somebody else. Hurley feels that had he stayed with Jack, they could've better stood a chance at defending themselves. Maybe Jack's people get captured because of this divide and conquer routine. And Hurley and Locke's people have to try and save them? Maybe all this is what leads to the obviously not so good outcome with only 6 people making it off the island? I dunno. Just an idea.

Trevor and Andrew - that was exactly the next thing I was going to suggest - Ben and co. found out that Rousseau was preggers and killed off her team to:
1. Eliminate resistance to getting Alex
2. Give Ben and Co. a pretext for saying - "give us your baby so we can protect her from 'the sickness'"

Mattastic said...

This could be a rambling post, but I have no one here to listen.

Has anyone here seen Flags of Our Fathers? Yes or no, I'll breifly recap. It's the story of the SIX soldiers that raised the flag at Hiroshima, and became immortalized in the famous photo. Only the thing is, the six guys in the photo weren't the real guys. Six other guys raised the original flag, then a general told 'em to take it down, then another general told 'em to put it back up so it could be photographed. The six guys in the photo knew they weren't the real flag-raisers, but the US governement brought them back to the US and sent them on a publicity tour to raise bond money. The "fraud" soldiers lived with tremendous guilt for the rest of their lives because they were perpetuating a lie all in the name of p.r. and propaganda.

So, for comparisons sake I'll call them the Hiroshima 6, and I think there are enough similarities to the Oceanic 6 to make it an interesting comparison. We don't know who exactly the Oceanic 6 is yet, but we know they are protecting a lie. (I think that lie involves protecting the identities of other survivors/others that got off the island) We know they are guilt-ridden. Perhaps they went on a nationwide media tour? How else would they get a name like that? Seems like it's media manufactured to me.

Which brings me to my last point. I don't think Kate is one of the Oceanic 6 (other people may have said this before me) Don't you think she would have been arrested as soon as she stepped foot on American soil? Surviving a plane crash is not grounds to drop murder charges. Kate is simply one of the people that the Oceanic 6 is protecting.

anyway, thanks for reading.

Mattastic said...

oops, I meant to say Iwo Jima, not Hiroshima... :(

memphish said...

Good analogy Mattastic. I think it's clear the 6 are lying and keeping secrets. At a minimum it seems they lied that Ana Lucia was alive after the crash. The bigger question I want to know is who is making them lie? Themselves or some outside force like Ben, the Freighter people, Michael, Oceanic?

Less than 4 hours to find out more!
