i just wanted to pop in and tell everyone THANK YOU, for getting the Dharmalars past a new Milestone! i want to thank Aimee and Kimberley, Jay and Jack and Metrobuzz for mentioning our show so much and spreading the good word.
I want to thank Jimmy for adding some much deserved Class to our little outfit. If it weren't for his contributions to the show, i am sure we wouldn't have as many positive reviews or the 200,00th download that we received yesterday!
Emergency Alert System test on my cable box. luckily, it's still an hour and fifteen minutes from LOST. but if that shit had happened during an episode of LOST, i'm not sure what would've happened... but you'd probably be reading about it on the news tomorrow.
where did i hear the theory that Hurley sees dead people and his imaginary friend Dave was killed by that collapsing deck? is that Jack Glatfelter's? or does it just sound like something Jack would cook up?
is the LOST repeat before the new episode tonight another PopUp Video version? will it suck any less than the last one?
What I read today said there won't be pop-ups until next week. Next week is Valentine's Day right? All I want is to be left alone to watch LOST. Well I wouldn't turn down chocolate and wine to watch it alone either.
I heard/read that idea of Dave dying on the deck somewhere this week Palmer, but I honestly don't remember where. I think the idea may have been around though possibly less seriously since the Dave episode. And remember, Libby's husband with the boat was named David.
Me too Ally. I'm not sure what to make of that. It was pretty out there, especially the ghost buster and the Dharma Hydra collar on the Tunisian polar bear.
The pic of Ben they had? Did that look like it was taken in an airport? I really can't wait to rewatch that. So much I feel like I missed. Ausiello said die-hard fans would be disappointed with a huge inconsistency tonight. Was it that the pic of the pilot wasn't Greg Grunberg? Because I thought it looked enough like him to pass.
I called the number. It just gives you a bunch of BS. Nothing useful. Steph, I've seen someone else say that about Michael too. I guess Ben could have informed Walt what to do when they found "rescue" or left a note and walkie in the boat. Could be.
Speaking of Trev, his Super Bowl pics are up on his myspace. Very interesting even though I don't follow the NFL. I was surprised to see what a party atmosphere it was. Why am I talking about the Super Bowl when we have soo much Lost to discuss?
That was Grunberg or at least a photo of him with a cheesy mustache. Looked sort of like that shot of him that makes the internet rounds dressed as one of the Village People.
The big inconsistency Ausiello may have been talking about was the way 815 was found. It's different from the way it was found in the game. 1 ROV in the game, 2 on the show. Different people. Minor details, but the stuff we all like to grouse about.
So what was the blunder Ausiello refers to "that dumbs down the 815ers to the point where the castaways on Gilligan's Island look smart by comparison"?
I'm getting annoyed by him. I guess it's because I really dug this episode!
Palmer--I'm with you on Charlotte being annoying so far. I kinda hated her voice when she was explaining that the chopper was crashing and she's lucky to be alive. I can't decide if she's attractive though. If ever you could describe someone as "oddly attractive" I think it'd be her.
hmmm... don't know how i feel about the episode. It feels like Lost is being influenced by last year's success of Heroes. It was fun, but the tone was off.
I don't want to be overly negative, because last week's episdoe felt different from previous seasons but still had the right tone, the right weight.
andrew, you're 100% right that this episode felt "different." so far, i like Dan and Lapidus though. Miles gives us glimpses of his being a pretty interesting character too.
i enjoyed the episode. not as much as last week but it sure seemed like this episode was setting up a shit ton of stuff. lots of exposition, i guess. now, the table has been set and we're ready for a 6 course meal of island adventures. mmm mmm good!
When the show started I had to check to make sure I had the right channel. They sure bucked the format with this episode didn't they? Overall I think it was a pretty damn good one, even if I spent most of it confused. I like how deep the Abbadon character seems to be going. Anybody notice the smokey like exit he had from Santa Rosa? How do those four even know who Benjamin Linus is? Good stuff.
he must have done something to walt to get michael to follow. but walt is on the island helping Locke, who is helping ben......... i will have to rewatch.
It's like Abaddon is trying to recruit Hurley just like he did Frank, Charlotte, Dan and Miles. Had the show jumped the shark with the parapsychologist?
i can accept a pyschic ghost buster since i've already accepted a magical jizz-empowering tropical island which is invisible, had a giant electro-magnetic anomaly, and has a smoke munster running around reading people's minds and then thrashing them against trees.
also, there was a psychic kid who liked to play backgammon and throw knives.
whether the GhostBuster character is another Pikki remains to be seen.
i wouldn't be surprised if Michael were Ben's man on the freighter but i sort of hope he's not. maybe a new character. maybe that guy who wasn't able to get to the phone to talk to PufferFishFaceMan from X-Men last night? maybe he's not able to get to the phone cuz the rest of the freighter found out that he was communicating with Benjamin Linus?
Personal opinions, I guess, but I thought that was superb. Some new shit going down, new faces properly introduced and some more Abaddon. I punched the air many times.
I was a big fan of Grunberg's "file photo", I do like me a file photo gag. Has any kind soul gone back to see if Grunberg is actually wearing a wedding ring in his scenes?
Some good stuff either confirming, or in the first couple of cases possibly influenced by, fan discussion - Locke surviving because of lack of Kidney, "Giant Ghost Walt" and Naomi's non existent sister.
Faraday seems to be carving out a New Charlie niche with some of his acting style, and to me Charlotte sounded Australian - but the actress is apparently English, so I guess I was wrong. Got a kick out of hearing Bromsgrove get a mention.
Also... am I spotting the beginning of... a Sayid and Juliet romance..?
That would be quite an unusual turn of events.
AUDIO GEEK COMENT - notice that the guy who played Abaddon didn't come in later to re-record his lines, they just used the production audio (background sound and all) and chucked it through a noise gate to stop us hearing it whenever he wasn't making any noise between sentences. Listen again and all the time he's actually speaking you will hear background noise, probably nearby traffic, but only as he speaks - as soon as he stops it's gone. The nice side effect is, it gives his voice a very unusual quality.
And as for the writers' strike news - dare we dream?
Ghost-busting gave me pause last night, but hey, I only have to give this show 46 more episodes and 3 years of my life. There's pretty much nothing it can do to jump the shark for me.
i haven't worn my free Bionica Jones shirt in ages.
i'll admit to not being heartbroken if it doesn't return but it was kind of fun to watch a return to 80s/90s popcorn adventure television. admittedly, they could have saved money and had better ratings by playing MacGyver reruns.
that was the continuity error? that after trekking across a jungle for a few hours, she had stopped crying?
last night, my girlfriend commented on Claire's weird hair and suggested that she needed a haircut. my response was "NOOOOO!!! she's growing out her crappy bangs from last season."
I think I have it! The continuity error of which Ausiello speaks is a dead character having a flashback. Personally, I didn't mind it. Why was Lapidus so banged up if he landed the chopper so skillfully?
DAMMIT!!! MotherF-ers!!! I absolutely should have known better than to get my hopes up about info on Smokey. I really was looking forward to it.
But - that aside - loved the episode. Who the hell is this team?!? 4 disparate characters hired by a still mysterious organization. Apparently Abbadon needs a genius/eccentric physicist, a ghost whisperer, and an archeologist to handle whatever they are looking for on the island - it's NOT just Ben right? Didn't one of them say something to that effect? I only watched it once so far, so I can't remember clearly.
There was a total romantical moment between Sayid and Juliet, there was also some tension between Kate/Jack/Juliet. Miles totally scared me when he realized that Juliet was a "native".
Yeah Ally - that was a catch-my-breath moment for me too.
I'm thinking this will be interesting because I'm betting that it will be another conflict for Juliet to deal with, because as much as she wants to get off the island, I don't think she would just give Ben up to them - I don't think she hates him. And I think while she had no trouble playing both sides because she was desperate to get off the island, I don't think she is ruthless and I think she has a bond with Ben despite all the shite that has gone down between them.
People seem to be making a lot out of that weird vacuum that Miles brings to "talk to the dead" but I think it's just something to distract people, like to make you think that's part of the job, but I don't think he needs it.
Good call on whoever said that "tell my sister I love her" was a code.
Oh and how about the MAP of where the other flight 815 was found?!? That seems huge to me - although if the other 815 (and that Dharma polar bear in the desert) ends up being the result of The Casimir effect I wonder if that means that it could have ended up anywhere. I gotta find a screencap of that map...
was that news video from last night the same weird video that Kim (i think) posted a few months ago? with dialogue in a non-English, non-French, non-Spanish language?
By the way, i want to tell you guys how much i deserve my wife. Last night we were watching LOST and she was shushing me anytime i made some comment. That shushing usually also involves some sort of slaps on the shoulder or arm. She sort of becomes the Me Whisperer when LOST is on!
The funny thing is, and keep in mind she never set foot on the scott and steve boards, as soon as Juliet showed up in this episode, treking through the jungle, stevi said out loud what i was saying in my mind.
It still really bothers me that people aren't having a fit that the plane was found in the Indian freaking Ocean instead of the Pacific. If I'd had a loved one on that plane, I'd be having a fit getting an explanation for that one.
VERY GOOD POINT Holli! I was thinking similarly. This is one reason I'm thinking this might be the Casimir effect in play rather than Hanso, or whatever other organization actually planting the wreckage there. Nobody trying to plant credible fake wreckage would put it that far away from the planes original course.
Top episode. The new characters were introduced smoothly and I like most of them. Another Brit has been brought to the island - that'll teach em for killing off 2 recently. Cambridge lass playing an Oxford lass - a big stretch but she nailed the accent ;)
Was Zoe Bell in this episode? Her name was in the credits but maybe just for stunts.
The biggest question for me is what kind of mission needs an anthropologist, a ghostbuster and a physicist? All I can think is they are needed to get different information from Ben.
mb, i was totally stoked when i saw that too. i kinda figured something was coming when jack was looking around, but didn't think it was them "coming around the bush".
WTF! Ben just shot Charlotte! Sawyer so wants to kill Ben already, talk about adding fuel to the fire.
Gotta say - this week - I think ol' Michael Ausiello took a wack pill or something - RE: his last few pieces of opinion-laden info on Confirmed Dead:
1. His two beefs with the episode that he mentioned earlier in the week apparently were that - The writers should have spent more time mourning Charlie this episode and - He's pissed that after Faraday says rescuing them isn't "their primary objective", Jack "drops the entire line of questioning. "Fine. I get that there are other things going on. But I don't get that it took Jack (and Kate) almost the entire episode to finally press him for an answer to the $1 million question"
Um - Michael - did you watch the same episode I did? There WAS some other shit going down that precluded conversation - like 4 strangers parachuting into their lives, trekking accross the island, guns shoved in people's faces, and someone actually getting shot.
This episode needed to keep moving (like the characters) - the action needed to be maintained for this episode to reflect the unease and stress of these 4 people showing up on the island along with their shady motives. A sudden stop-down and cry session - while totally warranted by Charlie's sacrifice - would have been out of place and screwed up the pacing. And Jack holding off on the questioning was simply the result of not wanting to piss off the people holding guns, and then when the tables turned, wanting to find the helicopter so they could get the hell off the island, more than engaging in a most likely fruitless interrogation of these people - I don't think he cared. And why should he if he's planning to get the hell out of there. Right now, that's his primary objective.
Sorry - Rant over - For some reason Ausiello annoyed me more than usual by being off base.
Ben's eyes looked like they were made of metal when he was asking Sawyer why he didn't go.
Also - it's good to have new characters in, simply because THEIR flashbacks will fill in outside world events during island time.
Also - Seth Norris!
Also - also.
Additionally - give us Zoe Bell already - obviously she won't be driving around on the bonnet/hood of a car at mega speed, but she's still liable to do some awesome shit.
Am I the only person who can't stand the look of Karl's face? He's just so funny looking to me. He really stands out too as most everybody else on the cast is rather attractive in one way or another. Karl to me looks like Mark Hammil's retarded son.
Agree Chris. I want to see Zoe Bell as well. Hopefully they use her stunt abilities some way or another. That scene in Death Proof was awesome!
And speaking of new females on Lost. What is the deal with the lack of hotties? I said it when making my list for Kim and Aimee. After Kate and maybe sorta Juliet, all the chicks on Lost to me are so vanilla and whatever. Like the new girl from last night. She looks kinda funny to me. Yet the chicks have so many guys to drool over. Come on Lost execs! When is Hannah Montana coming to the show?
More Ausiello pile-on. He is a douche. We ain't got time to cry over Charlie right now; we got places to go, people to kidnap and shoot. Part of his whining is probably attributable to the fact that he watched this episode 3 weeks ago and he's bored.
- i'm still ambivalent about last night's episode. I enjoy a fun action show complete with the Mission Impossible specialists like anybody else. The episode set up a bunch of interesting new puzzles, but, again, the tone was wrong. It felt like an episode of Heroes or MI4. But i'm not anywhere near ready to throw the show under the bus. I watched the repeat of ep.01 and enjoyed that again.
I read that last night's episode was written by Drew Goddard, writer for "Cloverfield" (which i really liked for the monster & the concept, but hated for the character work) & Brian K Vaughn (who's comic work I like for the big ideas but dislike for the stagy way they play out). So maybe i just had a bad reaction to the writers of the specific episode.
- Things i liked * Matthew Abbadon - great new villain, raising a whole bunch of new questions, really selling the whole Oceanic crash conspiracy. I've always really liked Lance Reddick as an actor too.
* Daniel Faraday (didn't someone refer to him as Sam in his flashback? or did i just mishear 'dan') is kind of a fun, quirky character. I'm fairly confident that he's going to turn out to be the most dangerous of our new arrivals, despite the hard sell on Miles.
* Naomi as the leader & tactition. I like that she saw that playing nice with the Losties was her best play to get her team to the island. How many times did we ask why the Others didn't just invite the Losties over for tea? It's also interesting now that she didn't make her play for Ben earlier, like maybe when Jack was beating Ben to a pulp.
*Like others have mentioned, the moment when the freighters realize that Juliet was a native. I was really expecting (hoping?) that Miles was just going to shoot her. I guess they'd already surrendered their weapons at that point. Would have been a nice shocking moment, really sold the threat of the freighters, & raised some questions. oh well.
other stuff: - i spent the whole episode watching all of the Losties run about with pistols stuffed in the back of their pants (yes, yes, TWSS). At one point Sawyer even raised his arms over his head to pull Ben-On-A-Rope right up behind him. I was just waiting for Ben to grab a gun. Then they telegraphed the shit out of the fact that Ben was going to grab Karl's gun. It actually added a nice bit of tension & it was surprising that he chose to use his new weapon on Charlotte instead of Karl or holding Claire hostage. That said...
- Body armor is such a TV cop out. Throw one more person on the chopper & let Ben kill the red shirt. Keep Charlotte if that's the way you want to play it.
- the ghostbusting wasn't a cardinal sin for me (although the fact that a ghost is just hanging around because there's a wad of cash in the wall doesn't make much sense to me. Why wouldn't it be just as likely to hang around for a bag of drugs?). I believe pretty wholeheartedly that Jacob could be classified as a ghost. I'm willing to accept another psychic on Lost.
- the fact that the flashback wasn't from a character's perspective was a pretty big break from the show's conventions. That mean's that the other flashbacks weren't necessarily a character reminiscing & it introduces a more omniscient voice to the narrative.
- i agree with MB that our new Oceanic wreckage could be the result of the same Casmire Effect that duplicated our bunnies & sent a duplicate polar bear to Tunisia. That would explain the extra set of bodies in the drink. Doesn't explain the missing wedding ring though.
(i wrote this over the course of an hour while also attending to work stuff, so apologies if i repeat anything anybody has already posted in the meantime)
i was hoping for Regina Stuffingsworth to die a horrible death when Ben shot her. i was a bit disappointed with her bullet proof vest.
if you're looking for Zoe Bell, it must have been her who dropped into the river in the parachuting get up.
the Dharma polar bear points to either A) time and location travel via Casamir Effect or B) Dharma did experiments in more than one location. why not bring a polar bear to a Tunisian desert if you're going to bring a few to a tropical island?
I'm with everyone that loved last night's episode. That was exactly the kind of episode I had hoped the premier would be. I'm still saying that last week's should have been renamed "Season 3 finale part III" and last night's should have been the Season 4 premier. It just felt like a Lost premier. The opening footage of the underwater 815 wreck was very reminiscant of Season 2 "discovering who's in the hatch" premier and Season 3 "dramatic camera pull away revealing Otherville is on the island" premier. And I loved the multiple flashback format. It kept me on my toes the entire time. Also, adding a ghostbuster is hardly a stretch, and anyone who is perturbed should be reminded that we've all whole-heartedly accepted a flying globe of smoke that can scan our minds' images and toss around grown men like ragdolls. So, sorry for the negativity last week. Unfortunately I've set the bar high with this show. And, in good form, it raised it even higher last night.
I seem to be alone in thinking that was MUCH better than last week's.
Each to their own style of storytelling, eh?
I thought she called him "Sam" at the start as well, but chalked it up to me hearing it wrong.
Zoe Bell will clearly be playing a character as well, though, or she wouldn't get a special credit up the start end - just hasn't shown up yet, unless that was her on the phone ("he can't come to the phone right now").
For me, a guy who can hear spirits is one of the least nutty things on this show.
Forgot to mention the smoke monster reference last night. mb I'm with you, that tease left me wanting more. But that's Lost for you. I don't know if I ever mentioned it here before, but I think that ring of black dirt/dust that encircled Jacob's cabin is the smoke monster. I think that circle of dirt is magnetic island dust/soil, and when ghostly Jacob crosses that line he becomes the smoke monster. Kinda out there, I know, but what the heck is the line of dirt anyhow?
"Am I the only person who can't stand the look of Karl's face? He's just so funny looking to me. He really stands out too as most everybody else on the cast is rather attractive in one way or another. Karl to me looks like Mark Hammil's retarded son."
I agree, Jordan. They could have casted a more attractive young man.
So... did Desmond not pushing the button cause the Casimir Effect which cause the plane to crash and also the Tsunami or 04?
And btw, You can add Miles to the growing list of Oz actors on the show. I think that now makes 4. Michael, Eko, Abbadon, and Miles. Can't wait for Master P to show up on the island! lol.
Speaking of Charlotte. How many blonde chicks do they need on this show? Shannon, Claire, Juliet, Sarah, Penny, Charlotte. I guess Kate has the monopoly on brunettes.
Rewatch the thrilling climax of 4.2 here with extra info. I think Kim and Aimee need to work this clip into coming round the bush on Jizz Island.
Holli
P.S. Charlotte is a red-head, isn't she? Also, nice that the one person who gets wet last night is female, though the body armor didn't allow them to take advantage of the full effect.
lol. You know what I mean. I'm talking about eye candy. Hot chicks. Besides Kate, there are none. Sorry, but Rousseau doesn't cut it. lol.
Is Charlotte a red hed? I don't remember. All I know is she seemed overly plain looking to me. Who knows, maybe she's a heck of an actress and will make up for it.
I'm just tired of Kim and Aimee and the other ladies being able to lust over countless hot guys. But for the guys it's like, "Well Kate is hot. But it's getting old, so I need to go outside of the box and point out the inner beauty of other girls on the island". Again, it's all about personal prefference. But for me. The island could use a bit more hubba hubba on the female side of things.
And regarding the ghost whisper and whether or not people like this overly paranormal element being introduced to the show. Yeah, I know. There's a lot of other stuff that doesn't make sense. But I find that when a show like this that confuses reality with the inexplicable then starts to get overly out there, it tends to suffer. Like I said back after the Jacob reveal. I don't want to the overall answer to the island to be "magic". Because once we establish that magic and hocus pocus stuff is the reason for everything, there's no point to really wanting to know the answers behind it all. What's the smoke moster? Magic. What is Jacob? Magic. To me, there needs to be enough reality for the most part and the mystical stuff kept to a minimum or you really risk getting too ridiculous. But yeah, it's not like the show has been totally real up to this point.
I thought the episode was ok. Didn't love it, didn't hate it. I don't think you can really take it for too much or at face value right now. We were given a ton of information and really not any direction in how to process this new info. People when watching Lost always want to make sense of things and put together the pieces. But with last night's ep, we were given a ton of pieces and nothing to do with them. For an episode that served a set up and introduction to the new characters, I felt it did it's job. We just need to be patient.
It's like we've been doing a puzzle, haven't yet finished it, and all of a sudden got a new section of the puzzle to worry about. And until we can figure out how this new puzzle connects to the old one, we cannot expect ourselves to know what to do with these new pieces. It's all good. By now Lost fans should know that they absolutely need patience with this show. ;)
Steph - great pull re: Desmond not pushing the button causing the Casimir effect. Very possible (i THINK, not sure) because if you read the barely comprehensible physics-ese that describes what it is (that's a comment on my lack of knowledge, not the person who wrote the entry), electromagnetic fields are mentioned, and seem to have something to do with it.
As is obvious - I know little about what i'm saying on this subject - lol.
And as for these 4 new characters. I get the feeling that none of them are as bad or wrong intentioned as they are meant to seem. Seems to me that Abbadon picked them for this mission, not the other way around. I'm betting that once we find out a bit more about these characters, they will all become more sympathetic and relatable. But as with the way of Lost, any new character, good or bad will for awhile be entirely ambiguous and give us reason to be trust and distrust them. And yeah, Michael is totally the man on the boat.
And the Sawyer-Locke interchange about giant ghost Walt had me absolutely rolling. lol.
If we ascertain that there was a grand plan for all of our original castaways to end up on the island, that they were kind of manoeuvred* into it, then it seems Abaddon is doing the same with this bunch of misfits.
Could he be the final big boss?
* dumb, complicated British spelling. we write "jewellery" as well.
Jordan - I don't think Miles' ghostwhispering is going to turn out to be magic or unexplained supernatural crap. I think that Andrew is right that Jacob could be classified as a ghost, and I get the sense that all these puzzle pieces involving Desmonds flashes, possible time travel, the Casimir Effect, the whispering, the on-island visions (and a ton of other crap I'm sure) is all leading to a semi-scientific explanation a la X-files or Alias (although that show never really did do a good job of explaining the science behind the "Magic").
It all seems like magic because we don't really have any other way of describing it yet.
- Jordan - Totally agree about magic being kind of a bad word when it comes drama. I have a similar problem with time travel or alternate dimensions. Once you chuck out the rule book, no situation has any consequence because you can always count on Deus Ex Machina for rescue. - also, good use of misfits. The Misfits Of Science was a favorite of mine when i was a tyke and our new team of specialists might fit that bill.
- if we didn't know Christian Shepherd was Claire's dad, i might have totally started the rumor that the helicopter pilot, Frank Lapidus was her pops because he's got the same icey blue eyes. btw, dude was 'supposed' to have been the pilot of Oceanic 815
Interesting... opposite response to jordan's post from the person I referenced - lol
I do think it's all going to connect up. It certainly is understandable to get nervous when a show introduces ideas that are so out there on the fringe since most shows don't know really what the hell to do with concepts like that in the long run and the show ends up losing credibility. But Lost really is a different kind of show in so much as the writers have (allegedly) a pretty big master plan, and especially now that they know when it's going to end. I don't think I have ever had this much confidence in a show being able to eventually wrap things up.
But talk to me in the summer of 2010 - we'll see I guess...
Was just thinking about Daniel Faraday's comment about the light "not scattering right" or something to that effect. I wonder if that has something to do with the magnetic properties of the island?
I totally forgot about Lapidus being an original pilot of 815. If the plane was meant to crash, wouldn't the pilots be in the fix? Maybe Lapidus objected and opted out. And the knowldege of the 815 shenangins made him go all batshit crazy and grow a beard and start hittin' the bottle. Sorta like Jack went batshit crazy post-rescue and grew a beard and started hittin' the bottle. Is this a common theme among men in charge when they go crazy?
His apparent wife refers to him by name three times - each time as "Dan".
First time it's in passing, while we're listening to the TV and follows the word "eggs", so may imply "Sam". The second time more quietly in the kitchen, and the third time (the one we are most likely to listen to) she says it just as Daniel takes a sharp intake of breath while sobbing, also meaning the audience may hear it as "Sam".
EXPLAIN-O
Although it seemed only a couple of us thought that in the first place.
Was out of town today for a job interview but fortunately rolled into my hotel last night just in time to see the episode. I loved it; I think that both eps so far this year have been very strong. Any complaints about the 'dead person flashing back' seem a little ridiculous to me ... it's not like they haven't broken the format before (The Other 48 Days comes to mind).
I thought that all 4 of the new characters seem interesting. Beard Man and Miles the most so; Charlotte seems the least interesting, but she potentially has the most interesting backstory (a polar bear skeleton in the desert with a Dharma tag??? WTF?????). She's a little scary to me, personally, because she bears a frightening resemblance to my ex-gf, the one who tossed me out of the car in the middle of the highway in Atlanta 4 years ago. Oddly attractive indeed.
So who the hell is Abaddon? I assume that he's working for Dharma. The fact that they all knew that 815 was going to be on the island sure does argue against Desmond randomly causing the crash by not pushing the button. And what's the timeline? Crash-->fake crash discovered-->team put together-->all within 3 months? Also, Abaddon came to Hurley next week and asked if they were still alive ... so whatever is about to happen to allow the Oceanic Six to get off the island and leave the others (not the Others) behind, it happens in a way that Abaddon, the otganizer of the mission, doesn't know. And the team all knows that the 815ers are going to be there, but they're using Desmond as a cover story ... why?
The way Abaddon said that all the 815ers are dead, is there any doubt that the freighter folks are planning to kill them?
Did anyone else notice the look that Ben gave Hurley when he slipped up and mentioned the shack?
When did the island become the size of a postage stamp? I mean, they've always been a little loosey-goosey about distances on the island, but the last two episodes have had multiple different groups of Losties practically stumbling over each other even though they're all supposed to be at different locations!
And to answer a couple of earlier posts...
Palmer, final episode of season 2. Desmond turns the key. The screen goes white ... and the wife and I hear the familiar sound of the Emergency Broadcast System, and find out that "This is only a test". Yeah.
I'm glad that some maniac didn't shoot up the Superbowl too. I saw that article yesterday and felt my stomach drop. I'm glad that the wife didn't come across it.
Steph, I've still got about half of my photos to post on myspace. The better ones I'm taking out and posting on the forums and emailing to friends, but myspace is gonna have them all.
tunisian polar bear: casimir effected Island bear or from a tunisian hydra station that was part of an off-Island dharma experiment?
naomi in a flashback: the flashback of a corpse or really an Abaddon flashback?
Abaddon working for DHARMA: the DHARMA Initiative still alive after sending the Kurgan to work with Radzinski or is Abaddon part of a different super secret organization like a subsidiary of Widmore/Paik/Maxwell or something?
this abbreviated post brought to you by a fear of firefox freezing up yet again.

Nice! See you all tomorrow.
Dude who parachuted in last week already fits in. What with his beard and all.

In case anyone's wondering, we had a Paulie Bleeker dinner for Lost night: breakfast!
mini kablamo.
Enjoy the show all you East Coasters!
Is it too early to already be putting the guy that parachuted on the hottie list for the next Losties?
Can't wait for tonight's episode!

Holli
"Speaking of triangles..."
HOLY SHIT!
that's all i can say for now. i'm still trying to regather my thoughts.
Me too Ally. I'm not sure what to make of that. It was pretty out there, especially the ghost buster and the Dharma Hydra collar on the Tunisian polar bear.
Holli
The pic of Ben they had? Did that look like it was taken in an airport? I really can't wait to rewatch that. So much I feel like I missed. Ausiello said die-hard fans would be disappointed with a huge inconsistency tonight. Was it that the pic of the pilot wasn't Greg Grunberg? Because I thought it looked enough like him to pass.
I think the picture of Grunberg was him...but just with a killer mustache!
Holy crap, Trevor. Glad that didn't happen.
As for the episode, that new girl is ANNOYING. Ugh...
Anyone called the Oceanic Phone Line yet? what was the number?
i totally geeked out about the Christiane I being mentioned. heheheheh.
and that dude can speak to dead people, eh? interesting.
I bet Michael is Ben's man on the freighter.
People CAN shave their mustaches. And even re-grow them! Someone needs to explain that to Ausiello if he's complaining about that.
I called the number. It just gives you a bunch of BS. Nothing useful. Steph, I've seen someone else say that about Michael too. I guess Ben could have informed Walt what to do when they found "rescue" or left a note and walkie in the boat. Could be.
Holli
Speaking of Trev, his Super Bowl pics are up on his myspace. Very interesting even though I don't follow the NFL. I was surprised to see what a party atmosphere it was. Why am I talking about the Super Bowl when we have soo much Lost to discuss?
That was Grunberg or at least a photo of him with a cheesy mustache. Looked sort of like that shot of him that makes the internet rounds dressed as one of the Village People.
Holli
Seriously...what "continuity error" is Ausiello talking about? That pic was definitely Grunberg.
I loved the looks on Ben and Locke's faces when Hurley mentioned the cabin.
The big inconsistency Ausiello may have been talking about was the way 815 was found. It's different from the way it was found in the game. 1 ROV in the game, 2 on the show. Different people. Minor details, but the stuff we all like to grouse about.
Holli
Daniel is this season's Juliet. Is he truly as sympathetic as he first seems?
So what was the blunder Ausiello refers to "that dumbs down the 815ers to the point where the castaways on Gilligan's Island look smart by comparison"?
I'm getting annoyed by him. I guess it's because I really dug this episode!
Jack giving Miles the phone?
Holli
maybe he's referring to Bespin Luke letting roped up Smeagol steal a loaded gun and try to save me from "Yet-Another-Stuck-Up-Englishwoman."
Ausiello goes too far with his snarky remarks often.
Is Charlotte's snobbish, British accent authentic?
Did Ben call Charlotte "Charlotte Staples Lewis"? That's one of those not-so-subtle literary references
Aimee better get out her Chronicles of Narnia.
Good night, lovely blogspotters.
heheheheh. good freakin' catch, puckett. no idea how that didnt register with me.
now aimee can read the narnia books AND re-watch the movie so she can drool over Mr. Goatbottom. :)
Ok. I got more.
I really like the character Frank Lapidus and the way Jeff Fahey is playing him.
was that a shout out to jay and jack on tonights episode? The new guy called jack shepard handsome.
andrew, you're 100% right that this episode felt "different." so far, i like Dan and Lapidus though. Miles gives us glimpses of his being a pretty interesting character too.
i enjoyed the episode. not as much as last week but it sure seemed like this episode was setting up a shit ton of stuff. lots of exposition, i guess. now, the table has been set and we're ready for a 6 course meal of island adventures. mmm mmm good!
i'd like to take this opportunity to say that Frank Lapidus is the Waylon Jennings of Flight 815.
/RIP Big Bopper
Why did Daniel wear a tie to the Island?
Holli
That definitely had a different feel than past episodes. Kind of cheesy naming a physicist "Faraday" though.
Good stuff.
It's totally Michael on the Freighter, also, That Polar Bear was totally teleported like the bunny rabbit in the Orchid Film!
also...i will watch it again tomorrow and do a kick ass show for you all!
AND THE SET UP........
Kablamo!
I don't know what to think. I need to watch again...
Micheal on the freighter. I like it. So how did Ben get Micheal to do his bidding since Micheal has Walt back.
he must have done something to walt to get michael to follow. but walt is on the island helping Locke, who is helping ben......... i will have to rewatch.
Didnt that pic of ben look like Tom from myspace?
IT'S OVER!!!!
http://www.cnbc.com/id/23057002
http://www.cnbc.com/id/23057002
shut up Jordan
That episode was complete shit!
Maybe the bearing Ben gave them led them straight to the freighter.
What we may get if the strike indeed ends Saturday.
I'd completely forgotten about Bionica Jones.
Ghost-busting gave me pause last night, but hey, I only have to give this show 46 more episodes and 3 years of my life. There's pretty much nothing it can do to jump the shark for me.
Holli
BIONICA JONES!!!
i haven't worn my free Bionica Jones shirt in ages.
i'll admit to not being heartbroken if it doesn't return but it was kind of fun to watch a return to 80s/90s popcorn adventure television. admittedly, they could have saved money and had better ratings by playing MacGyver reruns.
that was the continuity error? that after trekking across a jungle for a few hours, she had stopped crying?
last night, my girlfriend commented on Claire's weird hair and suggested that she needed a haircut. my response was "NOOOOO!!! she's growing out her crappy bangs from last season."
yeesh.
how much did we love Karl calling Ben "Mr. Linus"
It totally reminded me that to Karl he's just his girlfriend's dad.
i'm just impressed that Karl's putting the wood to Alex. must be those uber-jacked arms that BespinLuke there is packing.
/alex has a ticket to the gun show
Judging from recent Emily DeRavin photos I believe Claire's hair is the latest installment of the LOST wig of doom.
Holli
In a wonderful display of in-series consistency:
Grundberg DID have a ring on.
Sweet! Way to go LOST nerds, creator and viewer type.
Holli
I think I have it! The continuity error of which Ausiello speaks is a dead character having a flashback. Personally, I didn't mind it.
Why was Lapidus so banged up if he landed the chopper so skillfully?
maybe it was an Abaddon flashback, not a Naomi flashback.
so, will Naomi be in a Desmond flashback when he's in the military?
so, if Naomi is on a secret mission to get Ben Linus, why the picture of Desmond in her book?
Because Ben is actually Penny.
BENNY!
I'm not one for crackpot theorising, but I think that would count.
That was her cover story. How did she know Desmond was also on the Island? I think Mrs. Hawking is working with Abaddon.
Holli
holli, let's cut and paste Mrs. Hawkings and Abaddon together using Microsoft Paint and then Cuseloff can put it into an episode on someone's desk!
cant wait to read this
i got 10 min to go
My mind is blown
Lost is my hero!
cant wait to hear these podcasts.. i think jizzz island is coco! Here come the fortune tellers
well back to lost
"BENNY"
I love it!
I think that it probably IS Michael on the SS Not Penny's Boat but I hope it isn't.
and what's with teasing us about having Locke ask Ben what the Munster is..... with a gun to his head!
I totally fell for it and thought they would tell us.
Will Hurley and Locke become competitors for the island's affection?
That picture of Ben looks like he's going through airport security. Didn't he say he had never left the island?
/YAY!!! THE STRIKE IS OVER!!!
I only watched it once so far, so I can't remember clearly.
gotta go check out some info...
There was a total romantical moment between Sayid and Juliet, there was also some tension between Kate/Jack/Juliet. Miles totally scared me when he realized that Juliet was a "native".
OH! and YESSSS!!! Please let the WGA and TPTB dot all the i's before someone changes their mind.
It's probably too much to hope that they will actually resume production on Lost in time to air any more episodes before the Fall right?
Yeah Ally - that was a catch-my-breath moment for me too.
I'm thinking this will be interesting because I'm betting that it will be another conflict for Juliet to deal with, because as much as she wants to get off the island, I don't think she would just give Ben up to them - I don't think she hates him. And I think while she had no trouble playing both sides because she was desperate to get off the island, I don't think she is ruthless and I think she has a bond with Ben despite all the shite that has gone down between them.
we'll see...
"she had no trouble playing both sides because she was desperate to get off"
that's what she said.
Ally - I dub thee...
Dame Thats-what-she-said
nothing gets past you - lol!
MB, i think 815 was "found" in the Sundra Trench.
was that news video from last night the same weird video that Kim (i think) posted a few months ago? with dialogue in a non-English, non-French, non-Spanish language?
Apparently The Sunda Trench off the coast of Bali Java, and Sumatra is where the 815 wreckage was found, and incidently (in the real world) was the centerpoint/source of the earthquake that caused the 2004 tsunami.
Oops - didn't read you post first Palmer - thanks!
"boobs"
It still really bothers me that people aren't having a fit that the plane was found in the Indian freaking Ocean instead of the Pacific. If I'd had a loved one on that plane, I'd be having a fit getting an explanation for that one.
Holli
VERY GOOD POINT Holli! I was thinking similarly. This is one reason I'm thinking this might be the Casimir effect in play rather than Hanso, or whatever other organization actually planting the wreckage there. Nobody trying to plant credible fake wreckage would put it that far away from the planes original course.
Ralph - CONGRATULATIONS ON THE DOWNLOAD MILESTONE. It does not suprise me, but it does make me happy. Awesome job.
Pretty good observation about Locke and how he seems to be being painted as the island's "savior"
Also, how kick-ass was the moment when Sayid and Juliet come out of the trees - SMACKDOWN on that attitude Miles! I punched my fist into the air :)
aimee, watch out for lepers!
OMG Elias, I was gonna use that avatar, but ended up deciding on the one I got.
/Great minds think alike?
//maybe it's just too awesome of a picture to pass up.
Quick rant against Ausiello -
Gotta say - this week - I think ol' Michael Ausiello took a wack pill or something -
RE: his last few pieces of opinion-laden info on Confirmed Dead:
1. His two beefs with the episode that he mentioned earlier in the week apparently were that
- The writers should have spent more time mourning Charlie this episode and
- He's pissed that after Faraday says rescuing them isn't "their primary objective", Jack "drops the entire line of questioning.
Holli
- Things i liked
* Matthew Abbadon - great new villain, raising a whole bunch of new questions, really selling the whole Oceanic crash conspiracy.
Would have been a nice shocking moment, really sold the threat of the freighters, & raised some questions. oh well.
other stuff:
- i spent the whole episode watching all of the Losties run about with pistols stuffed in the back of their pants (yes, yes, TWSS).
Congrats Ben, Ralph and Jimmy on the milestone!
Yeah, I'm pretty sure I read that Zoe Bell was going to be acting on Lost, not just doing stunts.
Was Zoe Bell not the gorgeous, dark-haired lady that was accompanying Charlotte at the dig in Tunisia?
And btw, You can add Miles to the growing list of Oz actors on the show. I think that now makes 4. Michael, Eko, Abbadon, and Miles. Can't wait for Master P to show up on the island! lol.
And Sopranos fans will remember Miles as well.
"that tease left me wanting more."
that's what she said.
No Steph. This is Zoe Bell.
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1057928/
And you messed up the kablammo btw! :P
This is what I found regarding her role on the show. Doesn't sound like it will be that big a thing.
Bell said from Los Angeles yesterday that her next project was in Hawaii filming episodes of Lost, starting next week.
Bell described it as "a little acting role" that would involve some stunt work.
Too bad. As I prefer her visually much more than I do this new Charlotte chick.
Speaking of Charlotte. How many blonde chicks do they need on this show? Shannon, Claire, Juliet, Sarah, Penny, Charlotte. I guess Kate has the monopoly on brunettes.
I think we heard Zoe Bell last night.
Holli
Rewatch the thrilling climax of 4.2 here with extra info. I think Kim and Aimee need to work this clip into coming round the bush on Jizz Island.
Holli
P.S. Charlotte is a red-head, isn't she? Also, nice that the one person who gets wet last night is female, though the body armor didn't allow them to take advantage of the full effect.
And Rousseau, and Alex
And if we're throwing it wide open to dark hair, Sun, and Rose.
:D
"And if we're throwing it wide open to dark hair, Sun, and Rose."
that's priceless.
Are you denying that Sun is total horn?
CINDY!
Jordan -
I don't think Miles' ghostwhispering is going to turn out to be magic or unexplained supernatural crap.
Also Jordan,
I was just about to say what Chris said - are you blind if you are saying that Sun is not a hottie?
- Chris - good call on Cindy! <3
- oh yeah, i totally have a thing for Alex now, wonky eyes and all.
Oh - and there's more shhhtuff over at the SPLOG
Assuming, of course, he's not batshit
Heroes = better than Lost
I bet we see a flashback of Lapidus before 815 and he's all clean cut and shiny. Kinda like Jack before the beard and booze.
according to jim = better than both
fellows, instead of fighting over which LOST girls are babes and which aren't, can't we all agree that we wouldn't mind some more lovely ladies?
as long as they were integral to the plot and made sense in the context of the show. or pole danced.
Totally agree Palmer. Totally agree. That was my original point.
shutting up = better than being a douche
MORE AUDIO GEEKERY (but which answers a query)
Daniel as "Sam" clarification.
Donde estas Los Dharmalars?
