That was the weirdest episode ever! I think I said WTF about a million times, though I did call the working for Ben with about 10 minutes to go. I have no clue how to process that.
I liked most of the episode...but it's incredibly frustrating when characters just ignore questions (e.g. Faraday and Lapidus didn't even bother answering Desmond's questions about Penny).

well, technically, sayid's not a torturer anymore. now he's an assassin. but his stated goal was to stop torturing people so kudos to sayid!
i ReALLY hope that the Island's not in a time dilation field. in fact, didn't i disprove that possibility with desmond's timeline perfectly synching with jack's despite one being on the island and one on the island? so, whatever fucked up Danny Boy's clock must be a product of whatever "shields" the island from the outside world but not the island itself being out of synch timewise.
oh. and i figured out the scattering light comment. he's 100% right.
if you were in the jungle, all the light would filter through the canopy and you'd get pockets of light and shafts of light peering through the leaves. on the island, all the light is from about seven feet up and angled directly at the Lostaways. almost as if they were being lighted for a film. oh. nevermind.
i'm just saying two things A) the payload's clock was off from danny boy's clock. that's why he freaks out about the 34 minutes or whatever. but B) i think Jack and Desmond's timelines both work out to 3 years between the stadium and the exploration of the hatch. which i should really figure out how to verify. if they are both 3 years then the Island was synched to "real time."
so, why did was there a 34 minute delay for the payload? whatever you avoid by using the "precise coordinates" must fuck up time itself (among other things?). but i'm pretty sure that the Island is (was?) synched to real time.
ah, yes. shannon's dad's death anchors the jack and desmond timelines in 2001. desmond leaves on the boat and three years pass for desmond until the 815ers show up. the 815ers show up in 2004, three years after shannon's dad dies.
- that was a great episode. i had a really frustrating time trying to watch it though. My housemates interrupted constantly. I had to watch the whole thing in 3 minute bites.
- at the end Sayid says 'They know i'm coming for them now' & Ben says 'Good'
- et tu Hugo?
- like i said, really liked this episode. It was actiony but still had the LOST weight to it.
- if you were Jack, wouldn't you be a little bit more concerned that Dan just ordered a "payload" sent from the boat?
- if you were Dan and you were going to request a payload sent, wouldn't you aim it a little further from the Helicopter?
Whoa! That was pretty frickin' cool. Sayid's an asassin. Intense. Sayid is one of the Oceanic 6. Does Desmond vacate the island as well? He wouldn't be one of the "6" but he could still leave, right? It appears Ben has, as he has apparently done before. And he's running things. Still. (Emerson is the Man!) Are Ben and Sayid taking out Abbadon's people? Dharma? That team Abbadon sent to the island seemed to look at Desmond strangely when he mentioned the name Widmore. Widmore was Hanso's rival, right? So maybe not Dharma after all. Something else. Was that a 31 minute time difference between the island and the frieghter? Why did Faraday warn Lapidus to follow the exact same bearing on the way out? Man my head hurts. I need sleep.
Palmer, here's a wrinkle for your theory. What if the island is synched to different timelines depending on the coordinate you enter the island. The 815ers entered the island on the same coordinate as real time, but perhaps the Black Rock entered the island at a different coordinate. Daniel was doing an experiment to calibrate his equipment to the correct coordinate/time. This is why he told Frank to make sure he stayed on the same coordinates, otherwise he would come back to the island at a different time, maybe years/months before or after.
I've resisted timeline type theories but I'm starting to sway.
If the Black Rock entered from a different coordinate, maybe its really only been there for 15 or so years, which would explain why the TNT is still good. Arghh, my head hurts now. Timeline theories are brain-grinding...
I know many are not into the idea of time and timelines coming into play in Lost, but it's pretty clear at this point, I think, that it's a factor. I for one LOVE this shit.
And on that subject - Palmer, I'm not clear - why WOUDN'T Jack and Desmond's timelines come pretty close to synching up if there is only a 31 min. difference between island time and real world time? I was under the impression that the two timelines were running at the same speed and parallel to each other - just 31 min. apart. Am I thinking correctly?
Although I do really like Matt's idea of the island being like a nexus of timelines - where people from different times could all converge on it and end up on island at the same time.
Now would also be a good time to make a correction on a spoiler I gave in the last TLI Spoiler Seg. - I had read there was a 31 SECOND time differential between island and off-island. Ahhh...second...minute...hour...it's all relative right ;)
Good episode, better than last week, for sure. But how many more episodes will feature Naomi's STINKING, ROTTING CORPSE. Here dead body has already had more screen time than Claire this season. Hope we see Zoe Bell in person next week, now that she's been introduced via sat phone.
Palmer I agree that they've got a lot of 'splainin' to do with this time thing. Of course I wouldn't put it past Jack, the single most in-curious human being on the planet, to have missed that Desmond's 3 years and his 3 years are different.
There's a transcript of a deleted ghost whisperer scene at Doc Arzt. He also says the time difference was changed from 31 seconds to 31 minutes, and the stuff at the end with Sayid and his heart getting in the way was added later too. I wonder if that could mean he and Nadia were working on opposite sides of The Econcomist like he and the chick last night? BTW, The Economist has to be one of the lamest episode titles ever.
mb, the 31 minutes off thing would work. it'd be very Gallifreyan, but it'd work. :)
but i really hope it's not a time dilation thing where a minute on the island takes 31 minutes in real life. but then again they do talk in realtime on the phones. which means, hopefully, real world and jizzisland are properly synched. woo-hoo!!!!
now, we just have to figure out why physical objects take 31 minutes longer to get there. hmmm...
b. linus, michael and walt went off the island at "the precise coordinates" at the end of season 2 at ben's suggestion. desmond tried to leave the island on his sailboat without knowing about the coordinates and ended up finding the island over and over again. my guess is that whatever protects the island from the outside world only lets you leave via "the precise coordinates."
dave, the grey powder was there the last time we saw Locke at the cabin. and was supposedly there when Jorge Garcia was filming his cabin scenes but didnt make it to the screen. i think it's circle magic. where you can bind a spirit to a location by drawing an intact circle around it and infusing it with magical hocus pocus. so, maybe Jacob's cabin was "anchored" to a location? all we really know is that it's a circle of grey powder. maybe jacob just digs grey powder?
I was gonna ask if a kindly HD type had clocked Ben's passport alias, but that's already been sorted.
I was gonna make a comment about how Ben really needs to step up to the new £20 notes - but then remembered that the on-island stuff is set in 2004 so he wouldn't have the new ones yet.
That said, it's not fully up to date for that time period either, as £20 notes in 2004 had Elgar on the front.
What you've got there is one of the first runs of the Series E £20 note - and who is that chap on the back?
Why... it's MICHAEL FARADAY of course.
And if THAT's not on Lostpedia somewhere, I'm going to stick it on right now.
There's another Video OLP. In Week 2, Kris stood in front of the Luke and Laura lunchbox and now it's missing all together. I think it's a clue that time has been changed. No, I think it's a clue that Kris is vulnerable to the razzing of the internet about having a Luke and Laura lunchbox on his shelf with his LOST dolls.
my girlfriend is awesome. she, independently, just e-mailed me with a good theory on the payload being 31 minutes late. she thinks maybe the magnetic field around the island slowed down the payload.
If they did change it from 31 seconds to 31 minutes that would at least explain the fuck awful superimposition of the countdowns.
Also, I took Regina's (who is TOTALLY Zoe Bell, by the way, I'll put an old style £20 note on it) dialogue to mean she'd seen a readout suggesting it had landed. Which from where she was sitting, it probably had.
Agree Chris. I think we're really dealing with several different time things. Seemed to me Daniel expected to see the payload in about 30 seconds in line with Regina's countdown. Instead it didn't show up for about 3 hours, though on target, and the timing devices on-Island and on-Payload indicate a 31 minute time difference. Damon and Carlton need to get out of radio silence now!
Yes Palmer, and even discounting Cindy who is at least the age of consent, what about the Children of the Corn? Shouldn't they try to rescue them? Maybe it's the kids who are Adam and Eve.
i've only watched the Craig Ferguson interview with Ms. Lilly. i thought she seemed pretty cool.
in past interviews, she's seemed kind of... not my cup of tea?
and i liked her hair straight. also liked that they cleaned her up a bit between seasons. by the season three finale, kate desperately needed a shampoo.
All the women last night needed some mascara and eye liner too. The blonde, brunette and redhead were all looking worse for the wear. Blonde Juliet, not Claire. I didn't really pay attention to Claire.
Juliet was sure giddy when she showed Desmond the helicopter. I understand why Jack didn't leave because he has to get all his people off and then kill Ben (if he's sticking with his TTLG plan), but why didn't Juliet get it on it with them? He takes Desmond who wasn't on the manifest either.
Holli, I think Frank took Desmond because of the Penny picture. It's too early in the morning for me to explain that, but I remember Frank acting weird when Des questioned him about Penny, and then Des demanded to be on the copter.
Alright first viewing felt like old lost..I was just gettin used to new lost.. In the episode, what does it say about me that when Sayid orders an "expresso" that I expect the waiter to say "No, but you can have an ESPRESSO if you'd like?"
I imagine that if they didn't a bunch of LOST fans would moan about continuity issues of her body disappearing (although I suppose they could keep her covered) - perhaps Marsha Thomason has a contract for a specific number of episodes?
has anyone else been noticing the number 5 being mentioned a lot, i know it's not one of THE numbers. it seems like this season they're really going out of their way to stay away from the numbers.
Futerally I love you your funny..hahha wayyydrunkkkk My only problem with Episode 3 iss Ssyid wipes his hands clean wihth snow After he drops the phone in the trash Does that mean the phone can leave prints on his hand????????? watch that shit it makes no sense............Night Night I go to sleeep now birthday over...I Survived THANK YOU poweres that be
- Sayid ordering an "expresso" was whince inducing, and i don't drink coffee or frequent coffee shops.
- the time dilation stuff is cool but does invite tons of geeky arguments and theorizing. I'm just going to relax on it and wait for the powers that be to spell it out. Lindelcuse have been hinting at the time disparity since season 1, so i suspect that it was a big part of their grand plan.
- Speaking of the grand plan, Ben was never supposed to be a big character, so the fact that he keeps getting bumped up in importance sure does betray the 'we know exactly where the show is going' talk.
- Speaking of Ben, do you think the real Henry Gale was an earlier freighties attempt? If Ben's got so many passports and alias's why did he decide on poor Henry's identitity as his cover, because he thought it would be verifiable?
- I watched the Ep.02 repeat with the pop-ups. During that episode & last night's, i kept watching Naomi closely. The theory that she's still alive is annoying but seems really plausible. Maybe we'll see a flashback with her in the tree, injecting herself with undiluted Medusa Spider venom before hopping on Kate's head.
- i propose that the Dharmalars use an all James Bond music playlist in honor of Jarah, Sayid Jarah.
Chris - lol - I thought the same thing about Sayid's "expresso" order. I was a little surprised it made it into the final cut. But maybe I'm full of shite - you know, it seems like enough people say "expresso" that perhaps it's accepted as correct now. Everywhere I see it printed though, it's "espresso"
this has been a minute of reading time you all will never get back ;P
Speaking of "x" vs. "s" I say excape when I should be saying escape. I dated a girl that got so irritated by that, and I didn't even know I did it until she pointed it out. I do however pronounce "ask" the correct way. I suppose I would never be able excape the island unless Sayid was there to excort me. Ha!!
GOOD idea re: Henry Gale Andrew! Lostpedia's info does say that his balloon flight was "sponsored and/or manufactured by Widmore Corporation" so that's a connection. However, the note Henry wrote to his wife on the $20 bill in his wallet seems like he was genuinely stranded and was trying to just get rescued - and obviously didn't know the "invisible" status of the island since he was going to try to build a beach signal fire.
mattastic, is the Island on an invisible moon where sub atomic particles spin in the opposite direction as they do in normal matter so it's unobservable and non-interactive?
Serves Toshiba right. That's what they get for trying to compete with an inferior piece of technology. And not because I own a bluray player with my PS3. But because blurary has always been better. The average consumer has no clue. But bluray has a higher capacity. Higher capacity = more possibilities and more advanced technologies. The only reason HD-DVD ever existed was because certain studios wanted to save $ producing their disks. To me, that's a lame reason for a format to be put out to the consumer. Not that bluray is likely to last long in today's constantly evolving technological world.
Lost rocked last night! I thought it was awesome (except for the middle of Sayid's flashforward, which I found a bit boring). Will comment more latter when I have the time.
ben's fashion sense is quite questionable. maybe Jacob picks his clothes for him?
i doubt that Ben is working as a vet and masterminding the assassinations of people around the world. maybe he follows Sayid around to be his "support" and to make sure Sayid gets the job done.
then maybe Ben either dressed up as a vet to gain access to the meds and supplies or maybe he conned his way into a job there for a few weeks to keep an eye on Sayid and his long flowing locks.
Well I suppose Ben could have enough knowledge to be a veterinarian if the Others had worked with animals on the island - didn't Tom Friendly make some comment to Sawyer about how the bears had figured out the fish biscuit system faster than he had? That would mean they had at least worked with the Bears in some way. Must be one of Ben's many talents after lying.
I was in Starbucks at 6 this morning and overheard the barista and a customer talking about Lost. The customer was wondering how many episodes were going to be aired this year and was thinking 8 had been written and 4 produced before the strike. I had to step in and tell them the rundown of the rest of the season and the barista asked me how I had this "inside information". The way she put it totally made me seem like a huge geek, but not in an offensive way. I didn't stick around much longer because I had to get to work, but I couldn't help but think about Aimee's Starbucks encounter.
I might have missed this already posted on here. But from E!Online, apparently we gotta wait a bit for episode 8:
The last episode of the current pod (episode seven) will air Mar. 13. Then the show will be off the air a little more than a month and return Apr. 17 at 9 p.m.
(That Apr. 17 episode will be the already-completed episode eight, which was filmed prestrike, but which apparently works much better as a minipremiere than it does as a minifinale.)
Anyhoo, the following week, on Thurs., Apr. 24, a little show called Grey's Anatomy returns to its usual 9 p.m. time slot, so Lost will move to 10 p.m., where it will stay for the rest of the season.
And this little bit about the cram down to fit the whole story into the alotted amount of eps:
To find out what this all means for the season-four story, I checked in with my personal Jesus, Damon Lindelof, who explains how his writing team plans to squish the eight episodes of plot they had planned into only five more episodes.
"We are going to execute our full story plan for season four," D.L. says. "This simply requires a shift from high-octane storytelling to superhigh-octane storytelling. It requires no cramming, only a slightly heavier foot on the gas pedal...so, hold on to your hats. Those of you waiting for the long-anticipated Jin and Hurley Ping-Pong tournament, however, will be very disappointed."
Watching the episode again with my wife, she points out the golfcart in the opening scene sounds a lot like the jet engines of the plane in the crash scenes.
Anyone notice that those £20 notes that were in Ben's secret closet were about five years out of tender in 2004...? Must be a weird inconsistency with the props... or maybe that's on purpose... HMMMMMM
where's redrabbit when I need him? Apparently he work s nights and cant apprecitre this ranmble. Polar baers unite! we will swinm to the ends of the aerth in search of ice cubes, even if tat means a slight pitstop in the sahahra. Nice!! ever make a long island the wrong way? wrong!! it's always right. there, I checked that box off.

i'd forgotten about that.

what's up with ben's secret hiding closet???
i want one of those!
what did sayid say at the end?
i have no idea. i know it was something grand, but i can't for the life of me remember it now. lmao.
I think he said "Then, they'll be expecting me"
Or something like that...
Me either. The last section of the episode I wrote down "I'm so confused." And that was all.

I can't wait for the next TLI
I imagine there will be a lot of talk surrounding Sayid's naked body hopping out of bed :-)

He must be ...

Additionally, according to my girlfriend, Professor Moriarty from Sherlock Holmes was killed in Switzerland.

Holli
huzzah!!!
my girlfriend is awesome. she, independently, just e-mailed me with a good theory on the payload being 31 minutes late. she thinks maybe the magnetic field around the island slowed down the payload.
works for me!
But being late and the clocks saying different times are different aren't they?
Holli
If they did change it from 31 seconds to 31 minutes that would at
least explain the fuck awful superimposition of the countdowns.
Also, I took Regina's (who is TOTALLY Zoe Bell, by the way, I'll put
an old style £20 note on it) dialogue to mean she'd seen a readout
suggesting it had landed. Which from where she was sitting, it
probably had.
Holli
good point, holli.
hmm...
by the way, do any of the 815ers give a shit that the Others still have Cindy and the little kids from 815? will they mention it to anyone?
Yes Palmer, and even discounting Cindy who is at least the age of consent, what about the Children of the Corn? Shouldn't they try to rescue them? Maybe it's the kids who are Adam and Eve.
Holli
I have now sick of Evangeline.
Ugh.
i've only watched the Craig Ferguson interview with Ms. Lilly. i thought she seemed pretty cool.
in past interviews, she's seemed kind of... not my cup of tea?
and i liked her hair straight. also liked that they cleaned her up a bit between seasons. by the season three finale, kate desperately needed a shampoo.
Holli
Holli, I think Frank took Desmond because of the Penny picture. It's too early in the morning for me to explain that, but I remember Frank acting weird when Des questioned him about Penny, and then Des demanded to be on the copter.
Alright first viewing felt like old lost..I was just gettin used to new lost.. Being spoiled on episode.
#3 bad B day
Did you say you were 31, RRB? If so does that not make you exactly one day older than me, and three days older than Ralph?
Given the time difference there's even the possibility we were born within minutes of each other.
That's pretty cool. Now I just need to blog while drinking :D
Some possible R.G.s
Ricky Gervais? Rebecca Gayheart? Roman Grant? Richard Gere? Rudy Guiliani?
Some people are saying it's R.C. as in the cola. Who could R.C. be?
Maybe Dr. Eyeliner has a double first name -- Ricky Charlie; Ricky Greggie. After all it says N, not ND.
Holli

I figure id post this because i read it and did not know whaT i was sayin
Jc bad mistake now i have to stay around fo rthat 1 time every ones grammer will decline!!!
In the episode, what does it say about me that when Sayid orders an "expresso" that I expect the waiter to say "No, but you can have an ESPRESSO if you'd like?"
NAOMI IS STILL ALIVE!!!! WHY ELSE KEEP HER AROUND SO DAM LONG??????????
I imagine that if they didn't a bunch of LOST fans would moan about continuity issues of her body disappearing (although I suppose they could keep her covered) - perhaps Marsha Thomason has a contract for a specific number of episodes?
has anyone else been noticing the number 5 being mentioned a lot, i know it's not one of THE numbers. it seems like this season they're really going out of their way to stay away from the numbers.
HAPPY (OFFICIAL) BIRTHDAY, REDRABBITBLUE!
Futerally I love you your funny..hahha wayyydrunkkkk
My only problem with Episode 3 iss Ssyid wipes his hands clean wihth snow After he drops the phone in the trash
Does that mean the phone can leave prints on his hand????????? watch that shit it makes no sense............Night Night I go to sleeep now birthday over...I Survived THANK YOU poweres that be
- Sayid ordering an "expresso" was whince inducing, and i don't drink coffee or frequent coffee shops.
- i propose that the Dharmalars use an all James Bond music playlist in honor of Jarah, Sayid Jarah.
how does sayid get his hair to be so straight and smooth in the future? that's the secret i wanna know.
"Nucular"
ally, sayid obviously got the same japanese hair straightening treatment that aimee got oh so long ago.
the dude takes care of his girly nails and now he's taking care of his girl hair.
admittedly, it's better than his onIsland "Soul-Glo" look.
/coming to america
Ally - re: the #5 - I had heard that that this episode was going to introduce a new number to the Lost lexicon, so maybe that's it - hmmmm
I don't know how to make pretty links, so do this the old fashioned way:
http://mirrormattermoon.blogspot.com/
I don't have time right now to read this guy's entire theory, but off the bat I know he's way smarter than me.
Sorry if any of you have seen this before. First time I've come across it, and I like where's this guy's head is at.
Anyway, enjoy it for what it's worth.
mattastic, is the Island on an invisible moon where sub atomic particles spin in the opposite direction as they do in normal matter so it's unobservable and non-interactive?
no. no, it isn't.
That man's a fool - it's clearly Hawaii. They've said so for years. DUH!
jordan, wally world abandons HD-DVD.
Forgot to change my av for this week. DONE.
boy are those HD DVDs getting screwed.
nice avatar, chris.
something that just now hit me, ben's a veterinarian?!?!
ally, ben's not a vegetarian; he had chicken in his fridge.
oh. veterinarian? maybe. or maybe he just met sayid there cuz it'd have drugs, surgical tools, and nobody ever goes there.
i will admit to being scared when they were showing all the dogs in the vets office that we'd see poor vincent in one of those cages. :(
does Locke see a Walt projected or bilocated by Walt or a Walt projected by Smokey/Jacob/the Island?
5 is the most common number
Many headhunters are not assassins.
Ben is a Red Sox fan?.
Holli
hurley was freakin' hilarious last night. who wrote that episode?
Eddie Kitsis and Adam Horowitz, the geniuses that brought us Expose.
Holli
huh.
i DID turn and ask my lost watching companions "is Sayid in an episode of Expose' or something?" last night.
by the way, i guess Sayid's turn as a assassin reminded a tad of an episode of Expose'. oops.
Only without the strippers to provide Razzle Dazzle.
Holli
Or Billy Dee.
H
the thing about ben is, that he seems to work there. either that, or his choice of fashions are very questionable.
ben's fashion sense is quite questionable. maybe Jacob picks his clothes for him?
i doubt that Ben is working as a vet and masterminding the assassinations of people around the world. maybe he follows Sayid around to be his "support" and to make sure Sayid gets the job done.
then maybe Ben either dressed up as a vet to gain access to the meds and supplies or maybe he conned his way into a job there for a few weeks to keep an eye on Sayid and his long flowing locks.
Must be one of Ben's many talents after lying.
speaking of the others, where the hell are they?
They're at/en route to the Temple. (Via Miami or Cuba I'm guessing since Alpert is leading them.)
Holli
kablamo!!!!!
Um Brennan. You are a huge geek. All of us are. :P
So, lest anyone think China is not ready for the influx of Olympics tourists, here are some signs about town:
Sign 1
Sign 2
Sign 3
Sign 4
Sign 5
Sign 6
Sign 7
Sign 8
Sign 9
(note: Some are less than PC - I mean no disrespect by posting them)
Thats for sure. Geeks forever!
Re: the signs in China - I know what they were TRYING to say on all except that first sign - WTF?!
Palmer, How freaking cool is this?
If this comes out in the states, I might just have to buy a PSP!
