*Mostly Drunk Post*

So I agree totaly with Ralph now every time he says he is old!
I have Xbox live. Yet I mostly just use the XBOX. Then once in a while on a whim I go LIVE. So what brings me here is I just lost in Tiger Woods Golf.
He was 11yrs. old and Welch? Like the juice welchers?
I lose with no problem, losing alright, losing to an 11yr old from another country, fine with me. Losing to an 11yr old who is singing into the headset thingy provided by the fine people from XBox, sorta wrong, but then you say to your self whats this kid singing something I may have not heard . a snappy tune from Welshland..perhaps? Nope Nickleback..???? Any one other then me feel old I doubt it, it would'nt be a mostly drunk post if any one else felt the same. This is my own physchosis to( baer ?).
It's just one of those things in your life when you say ...Hey I'm old:(

Side note first guy I played was from Scottland I was A meter away from asking him if he was a Desmond fan..So close to showing my true crazieness to a possible 5yr stranger:)

I'm still snickering about "Ralph Awful." We're working up some good stuff to bring you guys as the Lars, kids. I'm looking forward to it.

Ralph, as for deviled (devilled?, bedeviled? defiled?) eggs, if you ask Harmonie nicely I believe she will make 102 deveiled egg halves (so she can have two.) But more importantly, she says she wants in on the Century Club. Thinking about throwing it open to all comers. What do you say?

Alirio said...

On irony:

In French "ironique" means sarcastic.

The root meaning of ironic in English is derived from ironique.

Sarcasm is a good analogy for what purists would call irony. "I just love deviled eggs," said in a sarcastic tone of voice is in fact irony. I used certain words to mean the opposite of what they usually mean. It's about the context.

What most people (including fellow Canadian Alanis Morissette -- former child actress having appeared on You Can't Do That on Television) believe to be ironic is actually what I would call coincidental contradiction.

A fire-house on fire, or a lawyer pretending to be blind with the use of a seeing eye dog that is truly blind, is not irony, but just funny.

The Dharmalars said...

Thalirio!

That was one of the points I was trying to make, but was too ineloquent to do so. That's why they don't give me a mic.

Irony is the foil to sincerity.

ally, i can eat at least enough mayoneggs to be godawfully disgusting. i'm thinking one. :)

ralph, fifty is still pretty impressive. impressively disgusting. do you think that you can really wolf down more than 30? eggs seem like a really easy thing to fight its way back up and out your throat.

you'll prolly be sick for days after attempting this. it's prolly a really bad idea.

that said, i'd totally watch you try.

Anonymous said...

Stephanie, Why do you hate Claire so much? What did she ever do to anyone?

scrdmnkydst said...

maybe it's the fact that she can't pronounce Charlie properly. maybe it's the fact that she looks awesome for someone who just dropped a sprog and survived a plane crash in the not too distant past. maybe it's the fact that she's a god-awful actress. maybe it's the fact that she acts like a fucking child all the goddamned time. maybe it's the fact that she never doinked charlie, when everyone else wanted to, SELFISH.

I think i gave a few good answers there.

mb said...

always happy to promote you guys Steph - it really was a good show - many laughs :)

Anonymous said...

"maybe it's the fact that she never doinked charlie, when everyone else wanted to, SELFISH."

?

Stephanie said...

Exactly! Add to that, the character has nothing left to contribute to the story. She's boring me to death.

scrdmnkydst said...

haha. Doinked is a bit of a colloquialism.

i bet you can figure it out though... it's not lettuce.

PalmerEldritch said...

everyone on the island wanted to schtup charlie? missed that episode.

but i guess it explains all the tension between him and Locke.

i'm not sure that the actress is a bad one. i think it's mainly that the character really got shoe-horned into a "oh, well. she's caring for the baby" role and the writers never came up with anything new. just gave her 1) caring for Aaron, and B) yelling at Charlie.

but, yeah, she DOES say Charlie, baby, and seabird annoyingly. but maybe that's just an accent thing as opposed to a personal thing?

also, she's better looking than Arzt.

Stephanie said...

The wig is klling me.

Stephanie said...

Though, I do wish I could get Baby Cakes to cut her hair like that.

PalmerEldritch said...

CLAIRE-BLAMo!!!

scrdmnkydst said...

Thing is, Par Avion is quite a good episode.. Easily the best Claire episode, out of the hundreds she's had, ahem.

But if she had been given something better to do then i don't think i'd hate her as much. Just thinking about it, i can only remember her from the first season, where she nearly gets squashed by the plane and coming out of the jungle after being kidnapped... that's literally about it... Just such a boring character...

No wonder she wasn't supposed to be a member of the main cast at the start.

I kind of hope that she goes all linda hamilton on the freighties... just to do something different.

andrew. said...

oooh. short hair Claire is even cuter. They should just get Sawyer to cut her hair on the show. Maybe make it part of her grieving process over cholee.

Speaking of wigs... why did they make Naomi wear a cat pelt on her head in that Michael flashback. The wigs are always bad, you'd think they would forego them when they're unnecessary. I mean, if we can follow "The Constant" i think we can figure out that it's a flashback, especially a flash to a few weeks back, without everyone having 70's hair.

Rrb said...

I got problems with the hatred of Claire.
I think it's more of a collective hatred of her spoken from meny Podcaster's ....
I got into podcasts maybe mid way third season maybe later..At that time all podcasts had problems with her. As a fan thus far I had zippo problem with Claire she played, her Charecter..After listening to alottt... of podcasts on the long break I found my self not liking her.

This bothered me because bye listing to so meny people saying they did'nt like her I was Annalizing her way to much in rewatches and new eps. It was'nt fair to her I think it got alot of Band Wagon Jumpers For lack of any other tearm..

Rrb said...

Ya? What up with Naomi wig whats wrong with, HER HAIR. she was in mostly all present time.(her hair could have been her natural look). She was on that show vegas ? her hair was fine on that show why not for are Island Freighty stuff?

andrew. said...

oh! short-hair Claire could be conked-on-the-head-and-now-evil Claire, or possessed-by-Jacob Claire, and it forces Locke to kill her, and then everyone hates Locke and then Rousseau rises from the dead and tells everyone all of the answers to the show thus far. Plus I get a million dollars for being rad.

Anonymous said...

"haha. Doinked is a bit of a colloquialism.

i bet you can figure it out though... it's not lettuce."

Uh yes. Thank you captain colloquialism. I got that. I meant that who the hell wanted to nail Charlie besides Claire? You?

memphish said...

He doesn't tear them Alirio? That's talent.

Palmer, a more serious gift suggestion would be to get him a rocking baseball, basketball, football jersey or cap. That's the kind of thing parents, unless they are fanatics rarely buy their own kids, but they look so cute in them. And buy large. Another book suggestion is to get "board books." It's a type of book the book store can show you. The books are printed on thick boards so the kid can drool on them yet survive. Giant Legos/Duplos are fun too. My mother-in-law has a set that came with a truck to store them in and to build on. My 8 yr old still plays with the set he got when he was 3 or so.

andrew. said...

- Re: Battlestar Galactica - i miss Adama whispering forcefully, Starbuck's 'frak it!' attitude, Chief's soulful blue-collar ways and yo-yo waist-line, Grace Park looking fine, grizzled Saul, the Battlestar & fleet breaking down, the president ordering people to their deaths in their best interest, and i'm really, really looking forward to the fake court drama being over.

- Re: baby gifts (Kim's never going to read the board ever again!) I think it's a rule that if you don't live with the kid you're supposed to buy the loudest, noisiest, most annoying gift possible. For example, when i was a squirt, my uncle got me a fire hat with a rotating light & siren on top.

- Ralph's segment on the marathon cast was great. Jay's top films were hilarious.

- between no new episode & no new podcasts, i'm already feeling this hiatus!

Chris JC said...

I wouldn't download that, Herlihy. At least wait until there are comments about its status. You'll most likely waste several hours and then get confronted with a password protected zip file and instructions to go to a website, download and register some program and find you are suddenly full of malware. You probably won't even get a password, and if you do prepare for it not to be LOST 4x09.

Alternatively, if it's kosher, at the end of the hiatus you'll feel like you're waiting an extra week.

Palmer, I just got my 5 free bluray discs in the mail! Totally forgot about them. I went and tried using the newer coupon even though I didn't buy my PS3 during it's dates, and it worked! I got The Prestige, American Pyscho, Superman I, The Last Waltz, and Ultraviolet. Yay for free stuff!

And woo hoo for BSG! I can finally talk shop with the rest now that I have caught up. I just really hope it's a lot better than the second half of last season.

Trevor McFur said...

OK, so there's a good chance that I'm going to be taking the plunge with a PS3 within the next few months. For anyone who has one ... is it ready to go right out of the box? Or is there additional equipment that I need to buy along with it? Should I just get it all at Best Buy or can I get the add-ons more cheaply somewhere else? And most importantly, can a reasonably technically competant 35 year-old like me hook it up to the HD-TV and bring it into the wireless network without too much trouble, or do I need to bite the bullet, hike the pants up to just below the armpits, and hire some punk-ass kid to do it for me?

PalmerEldritch said...

jordan, you made out like a bandit with your free five. i got Stealth, Into the Blue, Chicken Little, Species, and The Corpse Bride. yeah... but, still, it was free!

trevor, pretty sure that PS3s come with component cables and not an HDMI cable. they may try to charge you $90 bucks for an HDMI cable but you can buy one online for uber cheap.

basically a PS3 has component out, hdmi out, and power in. your controllers are wireless but it comes with a USB cord you use to charge them when they're low on batteries. obviously, dont use both the component and the HDMI to feed the signal to the TV.

i think the component cables (i think thats what they are) have a max resolution of 720p. my ubercheap generic HDMI cable can do at least 1080i. the PS3 can do 1080p but my TV caps out at 1080i.

basically, you give it power and hook up the video to your TV and you're golden.

setting up the wireless wasn't too bad. if your wireless password is complicated, hook up a USB keyboard for a few minutes. just plug it into the front USB ports.

now, are you looking to play your old PS2 games on it? some models of the PS3 are backwards compatible and some aren't.

Jordan said...

Trevor, Palmer is right. All you really need in addition is an HDMI cable. Check out monoprice.com for super cheap.

Palmer, Yes. Apollo is indeed an annoying little bitch. Especially last year with the "I'll show you daddy" crap. Also, about half way through catching up, a friend of mine told me that the guy who plays him is gay in real life. And ever since then, I can't look at him the same. All these little gay tendencies stand out big time. lol.

Chris JC said...

Futurama: Bender's Big Score is out in the UK on Monday.

The future is also the past, people.

Stephanie said...

Jamie Bamber isn't gay. However, he is annoying.

Stephanie said...

And gorgeous. And he is British.

PalmerEldritch said...

strangely enough, Jamie Bamber in interviews is completely dissimilar to Apollo. it's weird, but he seems extremely laid back, has an unidentified British accent (Mancunian-lite?), and holds himself completely differently. reminds me a bit of Charlie Pace. which means if he can play an American with a stick up his ass, he's a pretty good actor.

Trevor McFur said...

Thanks for the tips. It would be nice to be able to play some of my old games, but to be honest, that's not all that important. It the ability to play old games the main difference between the $399 & 499 models?

PalmerEldritch said...

i think the differences are that the cheaper ones have a smaller hard drive, two USB ports, no SmartCard reader, and dont have any PS2 backwards compatibility. the more expensive ones have a hard drive twice as big (80gb), four USB ports, SmartCard reader, and have software emulated PS2 compatibility (so, most games should mostly work but not all).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PlayStation_3#Retail_configurations has a bunch of info. the only two models currently being made are the 40 gb and the 80 gb models, right?

Stephanie said...

Jamie Bamber's real accent. And he's a US citizen. I'm looking for the video where he gets pissed because Michael Ausiello asks about his wife.

after all the shit we talk about Ultraviolet, jordan goes and adds it to his five free?! That's what i am talking about!!! that movie blows so freaking hard! I think i would rather have palmer's movies though.

Steph, you will find out the reason for that bit of business later tonight.

Because ralph- seems to like bad movies, I can see why Jordan is interested in seeing it. I'm looking out for it now on cable just to see how bad it actually is.

Steph, My bad on calling your boy gay. I was told on high authority and never felt the need to question it. Apparently he was on the cover of some gay magazine or something. But in the end, gay/British, what's the diff? lol. Sorry UK guys. I couldn't pass that one up.

Ralph, You get partial credit for the Ultraviolet pick. Steph is right. I am curious to see just how bad it is. And when picking my free 5, I remember the other ones in that category all blew. I wish they would just let you pick 5 without the stupid categories. Also, I love Equilibrium. I thought it might be at least visually impressive on bluray. Still though, I'm not expecting anything.

Steph, I think thatthis article was the culprit.

you don't have to be gay to be on the cover of a gay magazine... just generally appealing to the eye...

Funny thing Jordan is that when I met you, I asked Aimee if YOU were gay!

So is there anyone else besides me around here who is late, very late to jump on the BSG bandwagon?

I've got it in my queue, but frankly Netflix has been screwing things up lately -- shipping late/not at all, scratched beyond watching discs, etc., so I haven't gotten around to it yet. But I cleaned out my DVR yesterday (i.e. erased all the crap Hubby is never going to watch despite asking me to tape it), so I'm going to record S4 so I can watch it when I get there.

P.S. I totally laughed when I read Jordan got Ultraviolet. Could the title No. 1 Ultraviolet Fan be up for grabs?

And another question -- do you find that you really aren't missing all the TV shows you were watching in the fall? Chuck, Heroes, Pushing Daisies, etc. are such a faint memory to me at this point, I'm having a hard time getting enthused for them ever to return. I'm pretty much satisfied with one hour of LOST a week and the Bravo reality show du jour.

that's what the "Oh Snap!" was for.

You're not the only one, Holli. I've never seen BSG, I've heard good things about it, but I've just never caught it.

I'm sticking it my queue right now. Should make for a good summer catch up.

I totally agree, Lost is the only one that I'm looking forward to at this point. If the other shows come back, yeah it's great, but I'm not like dying to see any of them right now.

Entertainment Weekly has a list of Ralph's 25 least favorite movies.

I agree Holli, about the hiatus of the other shows not bothering me too much. I was pretty much dissapointed with Heroes S2 as it was. Sure, it picked up after about 7 eps, but it was still basically a dissapointment. Funny too, as it actually had a very weak finisah in Season 1. I think it is a shop that has enormous potential and a ready to go audience but is in danger of being quite a dissapointment.

Remember "The 9"?

I've always been a big BSG fan and still stand by it being arguably one of the best shows on TV. It did have serious missteps in S3...lets hope they right that. I also thought that last seasons ending was a bit poor...we shall see.

Major thing going for it.

Hot chicks and dudes that can actually act very well and draw sympathy to their characters.

that's what she said...

I was watching old BSG's last night, trying to catch up for Friday, and saw the bit about the BSG S1-3 in 8 minutes. I knew someone would link to it from here, and of course! Thanks!

For those that haven't watched BSG, it's great. I got into BSG, Lost and Weeds all at the same time, and love them all. Season 3 of Weeds lost a little, but it's still awesome.

I was reminiscing the other night about the old Sunday night HBO line up. I so miss having (new episodes of) The Sopranos, Sex, Six Feet Under and Deadwood to watch. Maybe someday they'll do that Deadwood movie there's always rumour about.

jimmy, remember the Apollanderbuckdee love quadrangle? ugh. but the majority of the show is remarkably entertaining. i'm really looking forward to see what Baltar's up to.

not sure that i'll ever pick up Razor on DVD. although, i suppose i'll have to in order to be a completist, eh?

Ultraviolet is Visually Stunning for like 10 minutes, then the "story" becomes SO heinous that you could give a shit. Also. the MOTORCYCLE sequence is the WORSE attempt at Special Effects ever.... well maybe not ever, but it sucks hard core ass!!
