- "everybody should be watching Breaking Bad & Treme."

AMEN!

Holy crap Breaking Bad was awesome this week. Maybe those of you not watching it should continue to hold off. At least until LOST is over. Because BB reminds you exactly what great tv is. Wow.

And I'm digging Treme as well. Though I don't think it's for everybody. Or too many people most likely. But if you like quality HBO dramas, a must check out.

No TLI either? The last TLI hiatus before the end as well...

This post has made me a sad panda. Weird, I don't remember turning into a panda.

Ladies, I think that even though you will be "retiring" after LOST, maybe you could do a sort of quick non-LOST podcast for the fans here and there since we love you so much. Maybe if you see a movie and want to talk about it and shoot the shit for awhile you can do a quick podcast?

I wish Treme had more plot. I'm hoping one will develop as the season progresses. I'm familiar with Simon's slow burn approach, so I think the emotional connection to the characters will come, but it hasn't for me yet. Part of the problem for me is the use of well-known actors. Right now I'm seeing them more as actors or characters they've played in the past rather than the new characters.

Also New Orleans is a place I visit 1-2 times a year and have a good feel for, so I'm watching it more as what I already know that what I'm discovering. I usually enjoy stories told in places I'm familiar with, but I think some of the impact of these episodes is lost on me from first, second and third hand knowledge I already have of the times and places portrayed.

Anyone watch Happytown last nite? I just can't wrap my brain around Mr. Friendly being the nice town sheriff who is a caring grandpa. I keep waiting for him to say, "This is our islan.. I mean...town."

But overall, not too bad of a show. If you like the murder/mystery/suspense show. I would definitely say that every new 1 hour drama on ABC copies the Lost format in some way. I guess "imitation is the highest form of flattery..."

As much as I hate to admit it, a friend of mine made me watch the season 1 dvds for True Blood, and I really enjoyed it.

Not sayin' I'm on the vampire bandwagon, but it was pretty fun to watch, and I started season 2 last night.

I know vampires are all the rage now, but when the heck are we going to get a tv show about zombies?

>pouting<

PalmerEldritch said...

aimee! zombie show coming your way on AMC. based on "The Walking Dead" by Robert Kirkman.

ZOMBIE TV!

let's hope it's as good as (or better than) the comic.

So the zombie show had me REALLY excited until I clicked on the link and found out it was about regular ol humans trying to no get zombiefied. I was hoping it would be the opposite...zombies who are hunting humans, except the zombies still talked like they were humans. So one zombie would kinda turn to the other zombie and be like, "Hey you gonna eat those brans or..." or somethin like that. And the zombies are played by the cast of Always Sunny.

I can not watch True Blood because of the ridiculous accents. Treme is more for me.

Breaking Freaking Bad makes me wish Lost still moved me.

Happy Town is vanilla, watered down Twin Peaks. I tweeted that ordinary people might like it. Great freaky ending with MC Gainey.

This is the only site not blocked at work.

John V. Holder III said...

Steph, is the show only moving to you because the main character is dying? I've never seen it, I just know he's dying and he sells meth.

John V. Holder III said...

I just imagine they play up the 'he's dying' thing a lot and it's made me not want to give the show a chance for some reason.

Stephanie said...

Actually Holder Walt's cancer is in remission. The show delivers "edge of your seat" tension almost every single episode. The writing is excellent as well as the acting. Watch it.

The most recent episode of BB is probably my favorite so far of this season. Very well done. That show is great. I'm glad to see it's doing well.

James said...

Breaking Bad is without doubt my favorite show currently...and it has been for it's entire run. Pretty much BB started around the time LOST announced the end date. Doctor Who has been in my life for 40 years, and the new ones are wonderful...I guess this is a way of saying LOST is my 3rd favorite show currently.

Yes, Walts cancer is in remission...which makes his life actually worse!

- Glee-vitized Fringe waa s'okay. Kind of the definition of filler-episode, but the singing was kept to a minimum, and Olivia was kind of hot as a hardboiled detective.

- Jay & Jack vs. Official Lost Podcast dude was entertaining. He came off much better since he wasn't talking as deliberately.

- The Walking Dead is a fantastic comic, and Frank Darabont has a pretty good record, so i'm excited for that. (i'd mention AMC being a plus too but i'm still smarting from the Prisoner remake)

- a month from now...

cant get enough Lapidus?

try 2005's Absolute Zero on for size. ;)

i'll prolly check out Breaking Bad sometime. gotta get season 4 of Dexter and season 3 of Mad Men first though.

and is Spartacus actually any good or is it just spectacle and people getting nekkid?

jimmy, i am really enjoying the new season of doctor who. check out The Eleventh Hour Podcast sometime.

also, True Blood doesnt sound interesting to me. is it just twilight drivel with nekkid people or is it actually thought provoking on a non-carnal level?

andrew. said...

i think of True Blood more as a dark comedy with some drama, action & nekkidness thrown in.

Jordan said...

What Palmer and Andrew said about The Walking Dead. Great comic. Can't wait. Hoping AMC goes 3 for 3.

Stephanie said...

Right, Jimmy. When Walt was dying, he didn't think he would have to deal with the repercussions of his actions. He hadn't planned on having to deal with Hank and such.

This is NOT a spoiler...

So Damon said last night re the final episode...

“We’re going to be as definitive as we can be and say this is our ending, but there’s no way to end the show where the fans aren’t going to say, ‘What did they mean by this?’ Which is why we’re not going to explain it,” said Lindelof.

Read more: http://today.msnbc.msn.com/id/36858938/ns/today-entertainment/#ixzz0maeIUuFd

Which I interpret to mean:
"We don't really know how to end it"

I really hope it's not too vague :(

John V. Holder III said...

I think they know how to end it. I think they have known for a couple of years. And I'm also sure they know that any ending they give us will only satisfy like 10% of the audience since we all love the show for different reasons. So everything I've heard them say, I interpret it as... "This is our ending, love it or hate it. We hope you love it."

John V. Holder III said...

the msnbc link has some good links to branch off to. like this one from '06. kinda cool to remember what everyone was thinking back then. the kate one is funny.

Hey, be careful... this website, www.officiallostphotos.com/
sez,"The Candidate Collection, each collector retro image of the six remaining candidates is custom printed on 11x14 fine art, museum quality rap photo paper with deckled edge..."

So if you do NOT want the official word on who the candidates are (ie- if Kate, Desmond, Jin and/or Sun are candidates), I would NOT go to this site.

This site is sponsored by ABC, so I'm guessing it is pretty accurate...

I unfortunately have seen it :(

John V. Holder III said...

WHY WOULD YOU EVEN POST THE LINK AND TEMPT ME haha, I would never have even known about it. Somehow my self control is allowing me to not look at it, since I promised myself to be spoiler free this season. I do, however, know the titles to the remaining episodes...but I don't really consider those spoilers. On another note, I have gone a week without smoking :) :) :) Self-control ftw.

OK so I was thinking...maybe we're just supposed to KNOW who the true candidates are. Maybe its not a spoiler (the site posed above) and we are just overanalyzing it. Hurley, Sawyer, Sayid, Jack, Jin, Sun. 8, 15, 16, 23, 42? I didn't look at the site, that's just the simple answer. MiB layed it out for us and we don't really have any reason to doubt him, other that that pesky 51 on the lighthouse wheel.

James said...

I think I came across as more of a naysayer than I meant too. Basically I would like the show to end in a way in which we actually do get a sense of "what it was all about". Even if it is vague, I would at least like to have a sense of it all....

I've never expected to get all the answers...I couldn't give a fuck about Adam and Eve. What happens to Cindy and the kids...don't care. Jacks Tats never interested me...what were "the numbers"...we will never know. We will never hear of Alvo Hansar again, surely...I understand how TV writing over 6 years has to change, drop plots, just move on for a successful narrative.

I would however like to know "Who are Jacob and Smokey, and why are Jacob and Smokey". I think they owe us that one, really...

I'll mention also that what I love/d most about TLI and the Dharmalars is that they actually DO call the show on it's bullshit when it is deserved! Been listening to the LPN etc lately and the lovefest is borderline painful.

Keep up the no smoking. I hit 2 years smoke free last month...after 28 years of it :(

Jordan said...

Jimmy, I'm with you on all of that.

I actually put the blame for any let down that ends up happening on the fans, not Damon and Carlton. They've become too obsessed with minutiae and 'answers', and along the way LOST (pun intended) grasp of what really matters. It's not Darlton's fault that detail obsessive fans expect every little thing that the show has down over 6 seasons to mean something and have some grand meaning to it all.

Still digging LOST myself, btw. I'm having a lot of fun with it. I just can't help but prepare myself to be extremely annoyed at all the gnashing of teeth that is going to take place by all of the obsessive fans who don't get to find out why Sawyer touched his left cheek when talking to Kate in season 2 and what Hurley meant in episode 24 when he said that he had to go to the bathroom.

James said...

We are on the same page, Jordan. I don't need to know everything, but I would like to think that they at least had an end game all along. You are right about Damon and Carlton being hauled over the coals for not explaining the Hurley Bird or whatever. Not their fault, and they needn't justify themselves for anything like that.

I would hate to see an X-Files scenario though, where it became quite apparent that Chris Carter had weaved such complex a mythology that he had no way out at all. Such a sad decline of a show :(

I've been loving BB as well. Watched the first 2 on dvd and now watching live. What I love most is how different each ep can be. Some are actio/suspense, some are comedic, and some are downright disturbing. Who can forget the ep where Jesse had to spend the day in the crackhead couple's house?
