Blonde Claire is better

Hey, this just came to me. A cat in Enter 77 as well as A Son Also Rises.

i seriously thought this episode wasn't bad. but i am frustrated, probably like most, that Christian never told Claire his name. Damn those writers. Also like most I thought that ending was incredible even know I had heard about it a long time ago, but to actually see it was quite weird looking. Jack what are you doing with Tom?

All in all though, I liked it enough for me to stick around and watch the shit hit the fan next week!

Dunno what the American preview has on it but the Canadian one is just awesome.

Man! People are not gonna like John at all anymore. I still think he's cool but he is making some pretty rash decisions. that was one of the most violent scenes we've seen in a while perhaps ever on Lost.

However that is a pretty cool way to go out, foaming at the mouth and bleedin from the ears.

Great line Locke "Sorry"

shocker of all shockers! jacks half sister! what a surprise...

BOMBSHELL Jack what is going on. he wasn't just acting like he was an other he was acting really a really goofy other he looked like he was having a really good time. man it's just weird

Mike Campbell said...

that was a good one. We all saw it coming but its good to see it confermed.

Here is a crazy theory someone must have said before. Did Christan Sheppard pay the psyic money to tell claire to get on that plane? Did christan know it would crash? most likey not. But i thought i would share.

John "Butterfingers" Locke is at it again.

This episode was one of the best so far. Looks like it's only going to get better.

That was a sweet ending.

Locke is really rash, yeah, but that C4 in his pack proves he actually has a reason for all his bullshit.

KABLAMO!

Aimee, 11:42 and I've seen '300' and LOST. As promised. :)

G'night, everybody.

p.s. brunette claire works for me but i'm not complaining about blonde claire either.

Locke is awesome again now that we know he (probably) blew the hatch up on purpose

Stephanie said...

Casey, are you being sarcastic? Seriously. Did everyone not see that coming? My real friend called me at the commercial break and said she was SHOCKED. To me, it was so obvious from Two For The Road. I wanted to see a huge twist. Like Juliet lived in Australia once and Christrian was her father. I just thought Claire being Jack's half sister was too simple.
Very disturbing with the car accident, the frothing, the brain bleeding, the discussion of euthanasia. Alot of tears. Alot of squishy face. Good stuff. I give it a 9.5 out of 10.
Neither Kate or Sayid are on Jacob's list because they are flawed. Sounded like to me that Locke is on the list. Why did Locke lie about not knowing about the C4? Are the explosives just a plot device for later? Maybe Locke is an inside man. He did give Patchy what he wanted. He wanted to die.

Was it just me, or did I hear the subtle strains of a classical, gut-string guitar playing a Giacchino'ed version of the brokeback mountain theme while Jack and Tom played catch with the football?

I definitely prefer the blonde Claire, even though as a rule I prefer brunettes. The wig just looked too fake.

Personally, I kinda like the squishy face look. Some guys like a little "flaw" if you will, just because it differentiates someone's appearance. e.g. I know some guys who like girls with a lazy eye. Others like teeth that aren't perfectly straight (a la Jewel). Then there's guys like me, and a few others here on the bogspot that just dig the squishy look.

Things I missed from this episode:

No nicknames from James Ford.

No overt defecation reference from Paolo.

No Hurley saying "Dude"

No throw-away lines from Nicki to let us know that she really has been there from the start.

No VW Bus!

No one calling out Danielle for being such a lying runt. (30 rock version of the word "runt")

Things I liked about this episode:

Claire squished all 15 pounds of booty she got into a 10 pound sack of jeans.

We got confirmation of probably the most widely known, unkonwn "secret" of the island characters.

John Locke is back to being a sneaky, canniving bastard.

Watching Kate shimmy up the tree. sorry, but now I want to see her ride a mechanical bull like the hooker from Borat, or the chick from the urban cowboy movie. But more like the hooker from Borat.

That's all I can think of now. I'm still pretty drunk from the sales meeting earlier tonight. Maybe after I watch this ep sober I'll have a different take on it.

Namaste.

casey_donahue said...

steph, that was sarcasm

and I like how instead of locke falling for the others bullshit again and listening to them and about how special he is, he shoved that russian bastard through the brain melting fence

that was awesome

now what i took from the Desmond flashbacks was that Desmond has lived his whole life through already right to his death and he is just remembering little spurts of it once and a while which are saving Charlie.

Ralph- said...

how many of you thought that claires plan was to use the birds as a means off the island by trapping them to help them fly her giant peach?

Locke is living his life like a Chess Game. He is thinking of his moves, laying out all his pieces and is about to pounce on his opponent. why should he tell anyone else his plan. he is wise to not trust anyone but himself. he has been burned too many times.

Why did it cut to Danielle when Kate and Locke were talking about Mckail's friends? hmmmmm....... SHE IS ONE OF THEM!!! I FUCKING KNOW IT!

casey_donahue said...

ralph, i thought the same thing about flying off the island

PAR AVION
Just finished watching - not bad. Killer end!

Many things to say as always, but going back to Danielle (and responding to Ralph). I'm just not sure what to think about her
I totally agree that she could be one of the others, and watching her actions tonight, EVERYTHING she did COULD be consistent with someone who is covering that up - i.e saying that it's better that she DOESN'T see her daughter; dissuading Kate from questioning Mikhail; interrupting Mikhail just as he is about to reveal a possible connection to Locke; encouraging them to kill Mikhail in "Enter 77" (to finish the suicide Mikhail attempted) - it's as if she is blocking information flow to our survivors; and finally accompanying them to Othersville may very well just be a reunion for her with the others (if she's ever left). I noticed she seemed to disappear away from them in the bushes right at the end when they saw Jack (after saying she tries to avoid encounters with them).

However, these things can be reversed. She may be sincere in her fear of seeing her daughter, in addition to the fact that her only 'proof' of Alex being with the others is the word of Kate and Claire who simply said they encountered a girl named Alex - not exactly rock solid proof for a woman who seems generally on-guard from her island experience.
She may have been simply warning Kate not to trust any information that Mikhail gives out. Her interruption while Mikhail was talking to Locke may just have been that - an interruption because she spotted the perimeter collumns. She may have been right that Mikhail was too much of a liability to keep with them (in that he could mislead them or turn them into a target). And, she may have changed her mind about looking for Alex, so accompanying them to Othersville would at least allow her to confirm her existence.

My god - is there a longer way of saying 'I don't know'? Sleepy now - night night.

i've missed the blogspot. work has been hell this week. i managed to block off time to watch Lost though.

- i liked this episdoe but i've liked the majority of season 3. I have a tendency to be really critical and i'm making an effort to be lenient with Lost.

- Claire is probably one of the very few cases where i prefer someone as a blond instead of a raven haired vixen. She might have dated a painter, but she's just doesn't really fit the rebel mold. She looked like a Harajuku girl playing dress-up.

- nice turn with Locke and the c4. I was considering the idea that he might be an Other from before flight 815, especially with Patchy's 'i remember a different Locke from long ago...' line. However, the part of "Enter 77" where he leaves patchy to play chess and gets jacked with the knife kind of dispells that. Now i'm thinking that he was really pissed about Patchy lying to them and jacking him, and so he blew up the hatch because he hates being conned. Same reason he's marching into O-town. (avoiding talk about next-on for Steph and the spoiler-freeXcrew)

-is anyone else confused about the Christian Shepherd stuff? i don't understand how the Ana Lucia / Christian episode fits into the timeline. That episode seems to butt up against Flight 815 with Ana-Lucia returning to face her mom, but the scene with Christian demanding to see his daughter doesn't feel right if he's already met her and she's a grown woman.

- goofy Tom ate badass Mr. Friendly

- i liked Kate this episode. She reacted very naturally to the events.

- how silly would it be if they were really rescued because of a seagull? how are these birds getting to or away from the island?

- i don't know what to think about Danielle. i agree with everyone that she's lying and covering something big up but at the same time i completely buy everything about Alex. I really think Alex was snatched from her and raised by Ben as his own daughter. So that makes her being a hostile kind of awkward.

- Sun is definitely not showing her pregnancy. she looks like she weighs 25 Lbs wet. Maybe the island "cured" her of her oops with Jae Lee.

- Will i get to pine over Cindy next episode??!!

For some reason, I assumed it was the actors and not the characters tossing the football. I thought maybe Foxy was showing Gainey a few moves from We Are Marshall.
Is Jack just playing the Others?
Does he have Stockholm Syndrome?
Whatever it is, that was creepy.

Stephanie said...

Andrew, thanks for considering me. During "Next on Lost", I plugged my ears and closed my eyes and said "lalalalal".
Looks like Tom's let hisself go a bit.
I like your Locke explanation, Andrew. I have to look at it that way when I rewatch.
Christian went to Australia to self-destruct, right? He gave up hope for he and his son. Maybe he wanted to say good-bye to his daughter.
On the subject of Sun's flat belly-I'm thinking Lindeluse will pull BSG and flash forward a year or two.
I don't think the birds can leave the island.
I bought Danielle's explanation to Kate.

PalmerEldritch said...

Ah-hem...

Ok. Mikhail was about to say "paralyzed" when Rousseau interrupted. I was like "what was he going to say? it sounded like it started with a P" and then thought about it again.

Christian Shephard went back to Australia to reconnect with Claire and Aunt Lucy/Lindsay/Luigi (not her mum) wouldn't let him see her. maybe Christian was visiting the mum in the hospital too?

also, how great was it at the very beginning when Kate chastised the rest of the group with "nobody's shooting anybody!" while picking up her huge fucking rifle. :)

Wow! Awesome episode...

Did anyone else think the doctor at the start of the episode was Rob Schneider??? Um... Just me then...

I'll get my coat...

aimee is lost said...

I wasn't as impressed as everyone else seemed to be, but I was distracted, so maybe I just need to watch it again.

PalmerEldritch said...

Aimee, you were just worried that I wouldn't watch it last night. I know the truth.

Now that your fears have been laid to rest, go ahead, relax, and re-watch the episode.

Anonymous said...

I was, at first, disappointed that Claire and Jack were brother and sister, as I think everyone had worked it out. Then I got a text from my mum saying 'Wow, didn't see that one coming'.

I sometimes forget that not everyone is 'online' and discusses these things...

The sight of Jack running towards the Party of Four and then realising he's catching a football is with Tom is one of my favorite 'Oh my god' moments in the history of Lost.

Colleen said...

Dear John Locke:

I want to believe that you're Season 1 Locke again and not pre-Island phone sex fan Locke or Season 2 Hatch-Bitch Locke, I really do. But you're not making it easy. Please tell me that you just pushed Patchy to his death and stole some C4 simply because you're scared that he'll blow up your spot (no pun intended) with the wheelchair thing, that it's simply vanity that's taken over your brain.

Sincerly (for now) Yours,

Colleen

Benjamin said...

Black.

Colleen said...

As far as blonde or black go - I said it before, but Emo Claire looked like an Olsen twin with a bad hair dye. Plus, she must be following one of their diets as she looked like she weighed about 67lbs last night. All new mothers, take note.

PalmerEldritch said...

In Locke's defense, he found out what happens when someone goes through the sonic death fence. Nobody had to draw straws to see who'd try first.

The C4 thing was a little weird. And who'd think that pressing a button in a Chess game would blow up that shack?

Now, why the hell anyone would play Chess instead of guarding their prisoner... no clue. That was pretty stupid.

Colleen said...

Yeah, now imagine if the Flame Hatch had a Nintendo Wii instead...

Anonymous said...

I was thinking about Desmond scaring the the birds away, and trying to figure out what that was about. Was it really an accident. The writers made a big enough deal about Claire accusing him of purposefully scaring the birds, but I can't figure what the motivation would be. If Charlie is going to slip and die from trying to get a bird for Claire, how would preventing Claire from catching a bird in the first place protect Charlie?
Maybe this is nothing and I'm focusing too much.

Stephanie said...

On second viewing-
How hot is Jin?
Did anyone else get overcome with emotion seeing pregnant Claire again?
That's sores on Patchy's face. Right?
What is the purpose of the security parameter? To keep the smoke monster out or to keep the hostiles out?
Locke's not on Jacob's list since he is angry.
Colleen, I see now. Locke is afraid Patchy will expose his secret. Sayid questioned his motivation as not being completely to help Jack.

Stephanie said...

mb, I was thinking the same thing on first viewing. I suppose I just "went with it" on the second.

Christian Shephard was not the smug, arrogant ass he usually is.

PalmerEldritch said...

mb-

the only thing i can figure is that only a few birds in the flock have a transmitter. if thats the case then maybe claire and jin and sun caught some birds without transmitters and so they went looking everywhere to find one. charlie dies looking for one.

so, desmond sees this and tries to stop charlie from being at all involved in trying to find the birds. he scares the birds so that claire won't say "waaaa. my bird doesn't have a transmitter" and send charlie off to find the one that did.

anyone tag seagulls for a living and care to confirm or deny my suspicions? :\

""but the scene with Christian demanding to see his daughter doesn't feel right if he's already met her and she's a grown woman.""

I think that Christain went back to Austrailia in his drunken two for the road trip, because he fucked up with his first family. Jack turned his back on him, he felt abandoned so he went to austrailia start off with a clean slate aka tabula rasa. looks like every cowboy has daddy issues and so does claire. i still dont know why everybody hates hugo. um...

aimee is lost said...

The fact that he'd already met her before doesn't matter. In Two for the Road, he didn't say anything about never seeing her before; he just said he had a right to see his daughter.

Christian was running away to Australia because he was ashamed of how he'd failed the family he chose over Claire and her mother. Now he was running to see the daughter he left behind; the one he chose his "real family" over.

Jimmy said...

I would certainly have tied Locke up after the Fence incident, removed his gun, and basically kick him around a bit. Sayid has every reason in the world to believe he is an "Other" or something equally odd. He would totally be off my team having blown up the hatch, the flame, taken the C4, killed Mikhail, been captured by Mikhail...all in the space of about 6 hours!

Jimmy said...

Also I know a lot of people really loved this episode, but I found it to be "OK'ish". I'll watch tonight before I record a segment, but I think I will only still get the same enjoyment.

That said...

Loved the final moments. Seeing the scene of Jack partying...the fact that the jungle was in the foreground of the shot and there he was, in "normality" just literally over the fence. Kind of surreal image, I thought.

Stephanie said...

Aimee, put this on your Barnes and Nobles shopping list-'Fountainhead' by Ayn Rand

Colleen said...

I agree with Aimee about it not mattering whether or not Christian the P-I-M-P had ever seen Claire before; I don't think, however, that he went to Australia to "make amends" or "find the family he didn't choose" but rather was quite simply a drunk totally spiraling out of control - and at this point, very hopeless, emotional & completely shitfaced just about all the time. I think he went to see Claire that day just on a drunken impulse; Sort of like drunk dialing, but drunk-visit-your-long-lost-daughter-ing. Come one, we've ALL been THERE before...I mean, personally, I impulsively cross oceans to visit my long lost illegitimate daughter whenever I've had one too many Jack & cokes...

But that's just my 2 cents.

PalmerEldritch said...

mark in hull, i re-watched the episode and you are spot on about Deuce Bigelow, Australian ER Doctor. good eye.

i've got my internet interfixed and i am ready to download podcasts like nobody's business. podcast on, podcasters!

I third the Australian Rob Schneider even though it took me seeing the dr to think of who you were refering.

aimee is lost said...

Craig was busy last night, so I went out, and ended up hanging out with a group of random dudes and getting drunk. When I went back to my hotel room, I watched the episode again, and took drunk notes. Surprisingly, I was still fairly observant (I think) and one thing I remember noticing was about Rousseau.

She says (in reference to Mikhail) "Don't waste your time. Anything he says will be a lie." This is basically the same exact thing she said about Henry Gale/Ben Linus back in One of Them.

How would she know that everything these people would say is a lie, unless a) she's been involved in confrontations with them in the past and knows them, or b) is a liar herself and is making this shit up to try and throw people off her track. Even if it's "a", that would still make "b" true as well.

PalmerEldritch said...

I'm in the "Rosseau isn't currently working with the Others right now but has definitely had dealings with them in the past" camp. And she's extra-batshit crazy to boot.

Plus, she's a freakin' Minbari and part of the Grey Council.

Stephanie said...

Good point, Aimee. If she says they are liars, how would she know if she hasn't dealt with them before?
Again, I started to worry about you and your dangerous antics but then I remembered that you can take care of yourself.
What's up with Heather Mills being on Dancing With The Stars? She doesn't need the money. Is she trying to prove something?

Anonymous said...

Just to add my 2 cents - some of what Ben said was true, some of what Mikhael said was true. The best lies are sprinkled with nuggets of truth.

PalmerEldritch said...

kind of slow on the blogspot today. what's up with that?!

post, everybody. now, damnit!

I found the most amazing thing ever while I was driving around aimlessly yesterday (prior to becoming drunk). I will post photos of it later.

Thinking about Locke...
Since his motivations for his actions are a little more in doubt after this episode, one thing bears remembering (Jay and Jack have brought this up) that he probably does NOT want to leave this island (as Rose may not either). I'm not saying that that's necessarily the conscious reason he blew up the Flame, but I think all of his actions do stem from that at some level in his brain. I am interested to see what exactly he wants with Ben once he gets to him. I've got to go back to "Further Instructions" and see if there's anything in his 'vision' that hints at his goals on this mission to find the Others (beyond finding Jack).

PalmerEldritch said...

w00t! post 'em, aimee. you and kim are our reporters in the field. taking pics of crazy stuff for our amusement. thanks, buddy.

Hey all I'm BAAAAACK!

Just reading up on what the blogspotters have been saying. I also was confused about Desmond scaring the birds away, Charlie was already NOT helping Claire why did he shoot them away?

Jack playing football with Tom...OMG! I knew it was coming, but forgot it was in this episode. For a moment, I thought he saw Kate/Sayid/Locke and was running toward them...but psyche!

I like Claire with dark hair, but that wig was sooooo fake it looked ridonculous.

did anyone notice if the birds about to be caught in the net had a tag on their feet? my theory was that they must not have had a tag if charlie was destined to go look for that other one but upon second viewing, i think the birds in the net might have had a tag.

i guess maybe charlie was going to die trying to attach the note to that bird's leg?
