Sorry Kim. I'm first this time. Hey Rolph & Ben. I love the Dharm O'Lars nod to St. Patrick's Day.

I really need to be leaving now for work but Dharmalars is still downloading. They will just have to understand. Somethings come before work.
Finally got to see 300 last night and was not disappointed at all. I'm so surprised I enjoyed such a violent film. Oly thing that disturbed me were all the younf children brought there by their parents. Kids of the age of 10 or 12 don't need to see that. Ugh! And the teenagers! They piss me off. After we saw Scream and had teenagers kick the backs of our seats and talk on cellphones, we quit going for a while. Teenagers should not be allowed to travel in packs. If you aren't old enough to not snicker during sex-scenes then you are not old enough to see them.
Come on, Par Avion. Download already.

Anonymous said...

I have to admit, I still snicker during sex scenes.

Anonymous said...

I saw 300 last nite too. I enjoyed it. It was way over the top but it was fun.

Because they mentioned it I went to to digg.com and dugg the Jay and Jack podcast. They have more diggs than the official lost podcast now. Then I dug the dharmalars and added the lost initiative and dugg them.

Stephanie said...

Oh,goofball, my favorite part- the BOOM when the two armies first hit! How pretty was Rodrigo's make-up? That voice was ridiculous.
Going to digg TLI right now.

Stephanie said...

Do you think some of those abs were cg? I think so.

Stephanie said...

I can't find TLI on digg.

Anonymous said...

Yeah steph,

When they first lowered their shields and formed the phalanx it was fantastic. And near the end when they formed their shields into a turtle shell like formation was great.

Either the abs an obliques were cgi enhanced or these guys were working out minutes before they shot each scene.

I think paulo would be more interesting on lost if he was a 9 foot tall god-king with piercings and eye makeup.

I just checked digg for TLI. I searched for "lost initiative" and it didn't appear. So I searched for "lost" and sorted it by newest first and they appeared. They now have 2 diggs.

Ah, '300.' Good movie but I am entirely convinced that the filmmakers threw all those boobies in the beginning of the movie to make it less homoerotic.

Did anyone else immediately think "sexual harassment!" when Xerxes put his hands on Leonidas' shoulders?

And Faramir was pretty badass in the '300.' '300'-Faramir would've wrecked the orcs at Osgiliath. Which is the place where Sam's monologue referenced in the Dharmalars podcast takes place.

KABLAMO!

p.s. happy st. patty's day, all!

Anonymous said...

Does an MP3 feed of the Dharmalars exist anywhere?

Stephanie said...

Mike, you and Colleen should talk.

Palmer, I did get that vibe. Like they kept showing the son of the captain and that other guy razzing each other. When I was about to verbalize my thoughts to my hubby, the son got his head cut off.

Danielle said...

iTunes is being a bitch right now, so I have to download the file from here. I'm sure it'll be worth it though.

PalmerEldritch said...

Steph, those two dudes were totally into each other. Killing hundreds of Persians for foreplay is apparently quite satisfying (insert Snickers joke here).

But I was talking about there just being wall to wall boobs in the beginning of the movie for no real apparent reason other than to lessen the "Do you like movies about gladiators?" quotient.

I guess maybe Miller drew lots of boobies in the comic book. By the way, isn't Frank Miller one of the writers of Robocop 3? Ninja robots!

My LOST Theory: Producer Ryan will be revealed to be the son of "laughing off-camera guy" from the Greg Kinnear era of Talk Soup. There is an uncanny giggle similarity between the two.

Stephanie said...

palmer, don't you know b@@bs and violence go hand in hand? Can't have one without the other.

Anonymous said...

Actually, the way they made the 300 movie less homoerotic was by putting clothes on the guys for most of the movie. In the comic they were naked almost all the time.

PalmerEldritch said...

And here I thought fighting the enemy in a leather diaper and a cape was screwed up...

Although, I guess it keeps you alert and on your feet. You don't want to let the Little Spartan get injured. :\

Danielle said...

Is anyone else having trouble downloading it? Mine keeps stopping after 1.2MBs.

craig said...

Lost related...Ralph, didn't Danielle shoot the members of her group because of the sickness? That may be why they cut to her after Sayid was speaking...just a thought.

Andie

Stephanie said...

I'm not saying I'm in the Danielle is a liar camp or not, but remember right after Jack and Kate were caught in the net? Jack was about to say he didn't regret their kiss when Michael came stumbling out of the jungle interupting him. I didn't get the impression Danielle was trying to keep anyone from spilling any info by pointing out the security parameter.

PalmerEldritch said...

Yeah, Steph. I think that it wasn't Danielle trying to frustrate anyone. I think it was the writers' trying to frustrate us. :)

Someone's about to find out about Locke and something comes up to distract them all.

By the way, since Cuse ran 'The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr.' can we get a Bruce Campbell cameo in a future episode? Bruce as Jacob?

/wouldn't mind a Dixie Cousins cameo

Ralph, Ben
Sweet podcast! And if your trying to find good irish films (or at least set IN Ireland), I would recommend "The Field" with Richard Harris.

RE: Danielle and the sickness for which she says she killed her friends - does anyone remember how long she said her crew were on the island (16 yrs ago) before the sickness hit them? I'm just trying to figure out if our crew should be exhibiting signs of it by now.

Stephanie said...

"Though she claims never to have seen one of the Others herself, after her team encountered the others she says some of them began to become seriously sick, so much so that it is implied that Danielle killed them in fear that, if rescued, they might spread the illness to the outside world. Around this same time (two months on the island), Rousseau gave birth to a daughter, named Alexandra. However, a week after the birth, she claimed a large pillar of black smoke could be seen on the horizon, and soon after Alex was kidnapped by the Others."
MB,less than 2 months, according to the bible or Lostpedia.

aimee is lost said...

Andie, maybe she was "exiled" 16 years ago for killing them? I still don't buy the story about the "scientific expedition" that "ran aground" on the island. She pulled a Juliet 16 years ago and Ben got sole custody, she got booted out of Otherville.

Show me some evidence, other than that shirt/jacket Sayid saw in her little spider hole during season 1's "Solitary" that had Rousseau printed on it. Then maybe I'll start to believe her again. But right now, nuh-uh.

aimee is lost said...

P.S. Ralph & Ben, I remember calling you, but I soooo don't remember what I said. I just remember Andie yelling at me to hang up.

PalmerEldritch said...

So, if Rousseau is an ex-Other, why did she make "The French Transmission?"

And what did that say, anyhow? And was that message recorded by Mira Furlan? Was there a real Rousseau who ex-Other Rousseau stole the identity of?

I'm still in the "She's just a crazy beeyotch" camp but it's fun to theorize about what might be anyhow.

aimee is lost said...

Everyone else who has lied about their identities have gone to great lengths to build elaborate cover stories, so there's no reason to believe she wouldn't have also.

However, if she was exiled from the Others or the Hostiles or something, don't you think she'd want to call for help to the outside somehow?

For whatever reason she may have killed some people, whether it was legitimate craziness, homicidal mania, betrayal, a purge, or what have you, she said "it killed them" which could mean ANYTHING. We still don't know enough. That transmission message was so vague.

PalmerEldritch said...

Crank your bullshit-o-meter to full power. LOST has taught us all to be, basically, paranoid about whatever someone claims to be. Your name is Henry Gale? Bullshit! You want a new cook for your restaurant? Bullshit! You're the last of the Dharmations? Bullshit! You didn't know about the C4? Bullshit!

I really hope that this doesn't spill over into our personal lives. We'll be second guessing the mailman and torturing the guy in the cubicle across the hall.

"Did you finish the memo? Where is it?!"
"I... I don't remember."
"You would remember! You would remember every staple, every pie chart. You would remember finishing the memo... if it were true!"

Anonymous said...

Thanks for the reprise Steph!

So IF there is a sickness (and I agree Aimee, she may have nothing but bulshit in her soul) it's very possible that we may see signs of it by seasons end as it's been about 80 days since they crashed. That will be a big clue re: Danielle one way or the other.

Ralph- said...

aimee, when did you call? before or after we posted the episode. i dont remember hearing it. i still have to go through all our mail and myspace stuff. apparently being gone for 48 hours was too long to let things on the internet go unattended. yikes. i will get back to all of you tomorrow.

Anonymous said...

Is Kim sat in her podcast bunker editing TLI, or are we going to have to wait for a little longer for some podcast goodness... Not seen her about here in ages...

Stephanie said...

The purpose of the vagueness of the transmission is to give the writers more plot options. I don't buy that bullshit of them having a plan. They are making this shit up as they go.

PalmerEldritch said...

If Danielle is an ex-Other, then at the end of Season 1, was she trying to protect Aaron? Was she trying to steal him for himself? Was she trying to steal him to give to Ben as a peace offering? Was she trying to distract our LOSTies so that the Others could steal Walt?

Hmmmm...

aimee is lost said...

Maybe it was a "child support" payment to allow her visitation rights.

Ralph, I called on St Patrick's Day at seriously drunk:thirty.

I had a very Welsh St Patrick's Day...

T'was a tough weekend on the health and brain, lots and lots of rushing around, childcare, angry two year old, 4 loads of laundry, podcasting (trying to), attempts at self care. All very busy.

I've decided that:
Danielle is totally fake...an other.

Locke is an other. (I've said this before).

That's all till I get the diabetes panel fixed :)

Palmer...loved your "Every staple, every pie chart" reference...sums up my typical day :)

I'm having trouble downloading The Dharmalars too. iTunes quits after a minute.

I think Locke might just be a big tittybaby that doesn't want the party to stop. He's on adventure island where people look to him for leadership, with 2 strong legs (that can apparently survive huge pieces of shrapnel) and lots of talk of grand purposes. He's ultimately selfish and impulsive and he'll do whatever to whomever to keep his fantasy alive.

Sadly, i agree with Stephanie for the most part that there is a lot of making-it-up-on-the-fly going on. Not to say that there isn't a grand vision and end goal, but the way they handled things like Walt and the numbers are pretty strong evidence. Still, i'm enjoying where it's at, so im happy.

BSG, on the other hand, is also taking the write-as-you-go approach and it's really pissing me off. i don't understand why that show derailed so completely, and right as i caught up. i don't give a shit about the outcome of Baltar's trial, and yet it's the most dramatic thing to happen since they finished vacuuming traitors. The ways they handled Starbuck's death and Lee quiting the military were anticlimatic at best. Why did Dee leave Lee? what was the argument? Is Hera really 3 or 4 years old now? I guess she is, with the way they jumped ahead in time by a year, and months and weeks at a time this season (although the Cylon scenes had her in a cradle??) On their path to Earth, they're 3 days out, from what? Are they still using the constellations as a map? Arrrgh, there's so little structure to this season. The CGI effects are still very pretty though, especially for TV.

i could use an island vacation right now.

PalmerEldritch said...

andrew,

i'm totally rooting (routing?) for Baltar. he's the least douchey guy around. Adama and the Prez are being annoying as all get out lately.

Baltar, the new lawyer guy, and Tigh are the coolest people on that show. Helo and Anders still have residual badassedness left over from their Caprica days.

and Six, Athena, and the Presidential Aide are nice to look at. again, the woman, not Billy.

everyone else has been a dink lately.

Mark, TLI will be up this evening... I'm running being on the editing (becasue of a weekend celebrating my non-Irish heritage) Saturnday morning hurt, and Sunday morning reeeeeeally hurt.

I'm also working a split shift this week and I am so not a morning person! 5am-9am, 4pm -7pm!!! O hate traffic reporting you guys!

Dharmalars, your podcast was great. My favourite part was Stevie calling--even though I had no idea what she was talking about.

I haven't seen 300 yet! No one will go with me because, so far the review are lame. But I kinda want to see it.

Ok, I"m off---ttyl!

Anonymous said...

Monday morning must have hurt more than I thought...hahah, lol, I meant to say Saturday! OOOH I hate the mornings!

PalmerEldritch said...

Kim, I'll go see it with you. Just swing on by with the Traffic Chopper.

'300' was pretty good. Don't let the reviewers fool you. You'll enjoy the hunky men and you'll probably be able to deal with the random boobage and all the violence. But we all know the real reason you're going... Paolo!

aimee is lost said...

Film critics are just that - critics. There's a difference between being a film critic and a film appreciator. 300 is a very cool movie, despite its critical reviews. GO SEE IT!! Boobs & Paulo & Gerard Butler screaming "Spaaarrttaaaaa!"

You also have to put the TLI lateness blame on Aimee because she submitted her portion at about 4:30 am on St Patrick's Day drunk as a skunk. Yeah, that's right. The first ever drunk-cast. Worth it? Probably not, but we had to do it someday, right?

Stephanie said...

BSG- I know now why it has sucked as of late. Tigh was not screwed up, the admiral and the CAG weren't at each other's throats, no Cylons on their tails. Everything was going too good. That doesn't make for good tv.
What's the connection with Tigh, Anders, and the president's aide? Why can they hear the music? Why, after all the father-son bonding lately, is the admiral so hateful to Lee? I don't buy it. Why is Lee trying to look like Baltar in the tacky, pinstriped suit? Dee can accept her husband being in love with another woman but she will not stand for him defending Baltar? Head Six foreshadowed Baltar's death. He will be acquitted and then assasinated by... Gaeta. Then Baltar will wake up in a tub of goo. This isn't a spoiler, just what I think will happen. Starbuck will come back as someone else. Did she go through a wormhole? Maybe she'll come back as a child or an old lady.
Kimberley, you'll regret not seeing 300 in the theatre. Go by yourself if you have to.

Stephanie said...

I was going to say Callie may shoot Baltar and then I remembered she shot Boomer.

Yay! Thanks Kim!

I was going to say Callie may shoot Baltar and then I remembered she shot Boomer.

if George Lucas was running the show, it would happen and he'd claim that it was cinematic rhyming or echoing or whatever he threw out there to justify the Star Wars movies ripping themselves off.

I won't stop watching BSG because I really enjoyed the 1st 2.5 seasons and i'm invested in the show. Also, i don't think it would be hard for them to fix. In fact, i keep expecting each episode to be good and it's really the way they compound the problems that's so surprising.

What's the connection with Tigh, Anders, and the president's aide the obvious conclusion to jump to is that they're final 5. My current theory is that Starbuck is trying to communicate from 'the space between life and death' and they just happen to be the ones picking it up. i still think Roslyn is final 5. She's one of the few characters whose actions kind of line up with the cylon goals. Torri (president's aide) would be a prime suspect for a run of the mill cylon, but they way they've built up the myth, i expect more from the final 5.

John Locke flashback theory: road rage incident involving Helen lands him in the wheelchair
new episode is so close already!

andrew.

Stephanie said...

Andrew, I like your theory about Starbuck.
Michael Ausiello(tvguide) thinks the problem with this half of season three is they went over-budget early on or the network only ordered half a season at a time last year. I'm sure RDM didn't want to be in the same situation as he was in with Carnivale, not able to finish the story.

Mike Campbell said...

300 was really good. Aimee you should check out the graphic novel. very nice.

But did anyone see that Spiderman 3 preview with the special thing at the end. I was so blown away with seeing that i wanted to see the preview again and 300 was great but i want more preview.
