Yes! TLI! Thanks Kim! We keep getting it earlier and earlier. Good job. Pretty soon it will be up after the ustream recording. And maybe one day as a vidcast! Thank you Aimberly!

CafePress haven't flagged my Alp-shirt. I had no idea the other design had made it to CafePress as well.

At last we've found the reason that the production have decided to grey up Miles' hair. They suddenly realised he (like Charlotte) is meant to be older than Ethan - if only by a little.

Chris JC said...

I'll be genuinely amazed if Sky One shows that clip show next week. They'll probably just stick on two episodes of The Simpsons.

memphish said...

2 episodes of The Simpsons sounds better than a LOST clip show. I guess this week is a training process for the next hiatus. We gave you something you enjoyed, but didn't leave you with any burning mysteries, or rather we left you with mysteries that you can't solve with the scraps with given you so far and now you must wait.

I was hoping to get the episode up on Saturday and blow all of you away--but I (as usual) saved it for the last possible moment.

Periods go inside quotation marks when used at the end of a sentence. I just blew your mind. But what about when you do "this"? Wouldn't the ending punctuations go after the quotes?

Kimberley, I can't believe you left this in.:)

Help me, Herlihy Kenobi. You're my only hope!

I always put the punctuation in the quotes. I think that's right but I'm not 100% sure that's always the case.

also, listening to TLI and enjoying it.

- Go Trek Yourself (repost from previous thread)

- "But what about when you do "this"? Wouldn't the ending punctuations go after the quotes?" well, that's sentence fragment, so there are all kinds of problems there. :) Maybe this will help.

- I agree Stephanie that Pierre Chang had the best intentions when sending his wife and son away. It's a little frustrating to me that Miles is too thickheaded to see that. I know Hurley has explicit knowledge of the purge, since he saw the pit o' bodies, and Juliet should know too, so I feel like Miles should have worked out that A. there's a reason they left and not because daddy didn't love them enough and B. Daddy didn't make it out of the purge. Teh Stupid seems to be catching. (Remember when it was a semi-legitimate theory that the losties didn't tell eachother about the crazy shit they saw on crap island because the sickness was dampening their cognitive abilities?)

- sad that Lost won't be on this week, but i guess it's a little bit of a blessing in that it delays the end of the season another week.

- will there be a special Lars or Lostiles episode to discuss Crank 2?

scrdmnkydst said...

""But what about when you do "this"? Wouldn't the ending punctuations go after the quotes?"

Oh. Right. Hmm. How to word this. If you're using a quotation that ends in a question, then you don't need to put punctuation outside of the quote.

EG. So then he said "Do you think Heroes is better than LOST?"But if you're using a quote as part of a question, then you put punctuation on the outside of the quote.

EG. Kate and Sawyer? Are you sure you don't mean "Skate"?It's also the same thing with fullstops/periods (ewww) and exclaimation marks.

...I swear I used more line breaks in that last post.

Blogger is omitting any space between anything put in ITALICS and whatever follows it. Wack!

will this work?

mb said...

and what about THISyes? no?

mb said...

or with a PERIOD.

yes? no?

mb said...

OK so it seems that as long as you type a space after the last character of the sentence, everything is kosher. Apparently if you type a line break (i.e. hit RETURN on my keyboard) at the end of the italics w/out typing a space b4 the line break, it slams the following characters right up against the last italicised character.

again - wack!

mb said...

the first sentence of that last post should have read - "as long as you type a space after the ITALICISED sentence (AFTER you type < /i> - w/out the space I just inserted there of course), everything is kosher"

I just listened to the new episode. Thanks girls. Great podcast as always. I roftl'ed so hard when that caller talked about Kate spreading her legs open for Roger Linas. On a small sad side note. It is a shame Kim seems to be so down on the show of late. It seems she has grown cynical to Lost as many have former fans have previously. You know, your friends who make fun of you for still watching Lost. I know Kim is a hard fan and she wont quit. But I really hope for her own enjoyment as well as the listeners that she is able to once again find the love like Aimee does. Aimee always gets me so exicted about the show! I can hear her smiling through my speakers. I think it is because like her I too watch with my heart more than my mind. But I do like that the podcast has two oposite sides. So I guess Kim being disillusioned is not so bad?

The Lost Lunatic said...

One other thing. Kim, I realy disagree about the Lost writers not having a plan. They have to know where they are going! There is not much show left! They would be the stupidest writers alive not to. Not only that. But it's been ubundantly clear since day one of the sereies that they have had a plan. It is such a detailed show. Every little bit is integrated and fits perfectly. Do not underestimate the show writers. They are very very good and put a lot of thought and effort in to their love child. And just one comment about the show. Why does Hurley need to fix Empire? It's the least needing of fixing in the series. Most critics and fan boys usualy agree. So the joke did not make sense to me.

PalmerEldritch said...

oh man, we're a mere two days away from... a recap episode? blargh!!!

but then we get the two part finale type deal, right? should be fun. hope the sith hits the fan.

/star wars joke

mb said...

Why does Hurley need to fix Empire?

I'm pretty sure it's just b/c the Dharma/O6 story was happening in 1977 and that's the only movie of the trilogy that would have made sense for him to be "correcting" - I doubt Damon and Carlton were making any sort of comment on the film itself.
I agree the consensus among Star Wars geeks (like myself) is that Empire is the strongest of all 6 movies.

mb said...

Palmer -
We've actually got 2 eps left BEFORE the finale - though I'd need to confirm that (so 4 eps total, if you count the finale as 2 eps). w00t!

Stephanie said...

That's what I'm saying mb. Empire is great just the way it is. However, someone made the suggestion that maybe Hurley ensures the Ewoks will never make it into Jedi.

PalmerEldritch said...

maybe Luke and Vader patch it up like Hugo and Cheech did and then they setup a "Save Han and Overthrow The Emperor" plot for ROTJ?

Jordan said...

Yo Lunatic. Why all down on Kim? What, just cuz she isn't a mindless drone? I myself love the fact that she's looking at the show with a critical eye. I don't always agree with everything a podcaster may say. But I respect the ones who question things a whole lot more than the ones who just mindlessly say, "Best episode ever!" You want that, there's plenty of other Lost podcasts out there that do just that. Also, who says she isn't enjoying the show just because she doesn't slob Cuselof's knob non-stop? As somebody who emails with her, I can tell you she most definitely gets giddy come Lost day. Seriously, The mere effort alone that goes into recording and editing the podcast speaks volumes. I don't see how somebody goes to those lengths for something they don't enjoy. And lastly, why the hell do you want everybody out there to think exactly as you do? Do you have any idea how boring that is? I disagree with things either Kim or Aimee say a decent amount of the time. And the show is better for it. Especially when they fight. ;) I'm thankful to have people who don't always think as I do. For one, sometimes they make good points that I didn't think of. And two (and usually), I just reinforces just how right I am. :P No seriously, I think it's pretty lame to call out somebody for not being exactly how you want them to be. Welcome to the board btw. Sorry to be so blunt. Don't take it too harshly. But come on.

Jordan said...

Oh, and Palmer. Thanks for scaring the crap outta me by saying that the finale was next week. Got me for a moment there. lol.

Jordan said...

And shame blogspot, shame. 5 full days since the ep, and only 38 posts in the episode thread. What a bunch of slackers.

t-dot kim said...

Thanks Jordan.

I wasn't very happy after reading those posts from "The Lost Lunatic". Actually I was quite offended--I'm just going to put it out there.

On a small sad side note. It is a shame Kim seems to be so down on the show of late. It seems she has grown cynical to Lost...I know Kim is a hard fan and she wont quit.

Really? What makes you think that? Because I didn't like the last 5 minutes of the Ben episode...or because I do not like the Desmond/Penny story? The over the top--in your face sappiness I don't like. Never have. That is not new. I do not get what you're referring to.

But I really hope for her own enjoyment as well as the listeners that she is able to once again find the love like Aimee does. This is what really got be mad, dude. I enjoy the show, and because I'm not jizzing in my pants after every scene doesn't mean I don't enjoy the show.

Kim, I realy disagree about the Lost writers not having a plan. They have to know where they are going...it's been ubundantly clear since day one of the sereies that they have had a plan. It is such a detailed show. Every little bit is integrated and fits perfectly. Do not underestimate the show writers. As for the writers, during the show my point WAS--I don't believe the writers have stuck to their original plan of action with the show. I believe they have an ending in sight. However, instead of going from point A to B...I believe they are going from point A to C to D and then eventually back to B...testing out different storylines. I don't think they are 100% faithful to their original script. That is what I was getting at in the podcast.

I appreciate your feedback Lost Lunatic, but understand that I really HATE being misunderstood.

Anyway, I also didn't even want to reply to this--but felt I should get it off my chest.

~Kim

PS> Good morning blogspotters!!

Chris JC said...

Jizz and misunderstanding. It must be the Scott & Steve blog!

My wife has found herself biting her tongue so much at work that she fears she might go right through it:

Yesterday, a colleague (Colleague A) in her office had been grumbling
for hours about how she "had" to go to see this stupid film last night
because of PR obligations, and managed to persuade the colleague alongside her (Colleague B) to go along and keep her company, even though she wasn't interested in the
film either.

Colleague A was heard fielding at least two phone calls from the PR company involved looking for more seat fillers - both were turned down flat with an "I'm
already going, thanks" instead of "if you need to fill seats, there are people here who'll probably take them".

Turned out that said "stupid film" = the UK premiére of Star Trek.

This morning, Colleague B enters the office and, unprompted, says "It was all right, you know?
Star Trek? Have you seen it?"

The Wife: "Erm... It was the UK premiere that you were at. So: no."

Colleague B: "Oh, of course. I didn't know Sylar was in it. I was scared of him."

And the office has since rung with these further gems from Colleague B:

"It made me realise that the only things I know about Star Trek are from the song 'There's Klingons on the starboard bow' - I remember that! And 'It's life, Jim...'"

"Sylar was standing just in front of us. But I didn’t recognise him."

and Colleague A's contribution:

"JJ Abrams was there and introduced the film, and I was like, awwww, I bet you were bullied at school"

I asked if I could post this and got the go-ahead basically on the strength of that last comment about Abrams.

The Wife: "not that I think he’s a god or anything, but really, he’s achieved more in the past six minutes than she ever will... Even if he’s only taken a dump..."

PalmerEldritch said...

DUMP-BLAMO!!!

PalmerEldritch said...

chris, they should have flown me in to the premiere if they needed to fill seats.

not that i can find my expired passport or anything... oops.

so, how to make my "Bram sent by Faraday Theory" work. hmm... maybe while he was in Ann Arbor in the 70s, he was putting together an organization to try to change time and save Charlotte? but it won't/wouldn't/can't work and now the organization is on the Island in the present looking for... something?

yeah, it's not a very good theory.

andrew. said...

- Faraday putting together a team of toddlers, Baby Geniuses, if you will, to take down the island in the future... It's a bold theory Palmer. You're boldly going where no man has gone before, theory wise.

- I'm not excited about Star Trek but i've never been to England nor a movie premier. I would have filled the shit out of that seat.

- I think Empire Strikes Back is a poorly executed movie. It is a bunch of really awesome Star Wars scenes edited together but has terrible narrative cohesion. The blind geek love for it has been one of my long standing pet peeves. The ideas represented are cool but people seem to have a blind spot for the numerous flat scenes and overall lack of dramatic tension. I actually think it's badly edited more than anything.

- Great episode ladies!

Chris JC said...

Empire's main problem is that for the life of it, it can't stand as a film on its own. There's no real reason why it should have to but casuals certainly have a problem with that.

And Yoda suffers from the same thing the Ewoks, C-3PO and Jar Jar Binks do which is that if you encounter them first as a very young child you find them completely acceptable to watch but if you're into adulthood they can appear to be embarrassing irritants.

Yoda holds up the best of that bunch, but I stand by that theory. Especially Threepio. Watch them again - he's REALLY irritating.

scrdmnkydst said...

Ok, so i've only watched ep IV and V, but ithe biggest gripe I have with these films is the screen wipes... they're so horrible.

PalmerEldritch said...

heheheheehheeh.

good ol' George and screen wipes. it was a conscious decision to use them throughout to recapture the feel of older movies but i dont think you really get that from the wipes unless you're either told that by George in a special feature or if you're familiar with older movies due to age or film school. they just end up being jarring.

scrdmnkydst said...

They seem really unprofessional though.

Jordan said...

Anybody watch Heroes last night? Prob night. But the scenes where Sylar was shape-shifting into his dead mother and having conversations with himself were creepy as hell.

mb said...

What WAS the reason for the screen wipes? I don't remember George or anyone ever giving a narrative or other reason for them. I guess I always assumed he thought they added somehow to making the films feel more like an old time serial, but I agree, they are pretty much just distracting.

Jedi is both singular and plural. So originally I thought Return of the Jedi was referring to the Jedi order, but now I'm thinking it is singular referring to Anakin Skywalker. Luke was never a Jedi nor did any other Jedi return in the movie.

Anyway, someone on The Transmission by Ryan and Jen had the same observation as me but since they got onto a podcast I'll give them credit for the observation.

Herlihy watching the Star Wars films for the first time inspired me to re-watch the original trilogy. As I was watching Empire I kept thinking, why the f did Carlton and Damon name the episode "Some Like it Hoth"?

I cannot accept that they would title an episode merely for one insignificant aspect. I have not really paid attention to episode titles in the past and I have already forgot the titles to most of this season's episodes, but I remember that there'd always been a storyline reason for naming the episode.

Others have surely made the Dharma = The Empire connection . . . well, at least one other person (as I noted above). While I still hold the Shadow People are working with Hawkins, I am now OFFICIALLY on the Shadown People = Dharma bandwagon. Hawkins was situated in The Lampost, a Dharma Station, the last time we saw her.

How would she know about this station if she did not have some ties with Dharma? What's throwing me is that we see CW bidding on the Black Rock's ship log. Why? Is he working with/for Alvar? Well, if you believe Shadow People = Dharma then no.

I have never been more interested to understand Charles' character. I hope the episode after "The Variable" is a CW centric episode. I don't think I would want the finale to be a CW centric, but maybe that would be cool.

Jordan said...

Yes. Some dude named Yu. I really dig his style. It's meant to be a 6 issue series. But they've had tons of delays due to DL's crazy Lost schedule. They're up to issue 4 at this point.

andrew. said...

- yes, the turtle scene was nuts. Fucking Danny Trejo!! One of my friends recently asked me what TV shows he should check out. I tried to convince him to watch Breaking Bad because it's my favo(u)rite thing (aside from LOST obviously) on right now. However, as i tried to make the premise sound inticing i could tell i was losing him.

- the final episodes of Pushing Daisies are airing in the UK, so they're sneaking their way over here to the states too. :)

Anonymous said...

Quick clarification, let me elaborated on Hawkins' Dharma tie.

My point was that Eloise knew about the Lampost. Ben did not know.

The fact that Ben knew about the Looking Glass, an underwater Dharma Station, and did not know about the Lamp Post suggests that Eloise has some inside information (possibly Dan). Come to think of it, it's pretty easy to find the Looking Glass, follow the rope.

Still, the Looking Glass is arguably the best hidden Dharma Station on the island and Ben knew about it.

I just wanted to clarify that my comment did not mean that because Eloise knew about a Dharma station she must be Dharma.

andrew. said...

- Re: Ultimate Wolverine Vs. Hulk - haha, by tons of delays you mean the 3 year gap between issue 2 & 3because of Lindelof? Also, i've been a big fan of Leinil Yu ever since his High Roads series, and he certainly delivered on the 1st 2 issues of this limited series (before the delay). Issue 3 looked like they dusted off his uninked pencils, which are still beautiful but not as strong as his tighter inked pieces. Marvel is working Leinil Yu to the bone these days and unfortunately i think he's rushing most of his work.

On a comic book and semi-Star Wars related note, is anyone else psyched about Arkham Asylum ? I just saw the trailer and it looks sick as f^ck.

PalmerEldritch said...

"Some Like It Hoth" is probably a "Some Like It" Reference with a Star Wars theme thrown in for good measure.

so the episode is probably more similar to "Some Like It Hot" than to Star Wars (daddy issues aside.

so, two dudes going under cover within an organization and hilarity ensuing would be the "Some Like It Hot" reference. and Miles and Darth Candle, along with Hurley writing ESB, would be the Hoth connection.

scrdmnkydst said...

...The Looking Glass isn't on the island. It's on the sea bed.

Herlihy, you are technically correct, but what I meant was that it's part of the island. You don't get "the sickness" from going to the Looking Glass and coming back to the main land. It's within the island's domain I guess might've been a better way to phrase it.

PalmerEldritch said...

Some Like It KABLAMO!!!!

those ties are the best i could come up with via a quick trip to www.imdb.com, thakid.

its not a perfect parallel but it's mildly similar. a buddy movie about two guys going undercover to protect their secret.

i think steph's seen the movie. are there more parallels?

PalmerEldritch said...

could just be that the writing staff thought that "Some Like It Hoth" sounded cool.

Anonymous said...

President P, I'm glad we're on the same page re Dark Asylum, however, I have to strongly disagree with you as it pertains to Some Like It Hot. Hurley and Miles have been "undercover" for a while, they did not just go undercover in this episode.

Furthermore, (ha ha I like that that I use furthermore) the main thing about Some Like It Hot is that 2 "dudes" are trying to escape and that they do this by cross-dressing and pretending to be part of a woman group (I don't remember if they were dancers, singers, or what).

I did not see anyone trying to escape or any cross-dressing. I guess you can maybe argue that them finding out about the dude who died from the cavity thing is kind of like witnessing a mob hit.

PalmerEldritch said...

like i said, best i could come up with. i'm sure "some like it hoth" sounding cool had something to do with the selection.

at the least, it was a better title than "Egg Town."

Finally listened.

To this whole do they know where they're going thing..

for starters we all know about Adam and Even and the dark and light and some other things...

and we all know that from the pilot to the middle of S3 that they didn't not have an end date.

when they got the end date things changed.

I always believed that the writers and especially Cuseloff knew the BIG story that they were going to tell but not the tiny details.

So since the end of S3 when we found out about the end date every single time we get a shit episode like Something Nice Back Home KATE HOLD THE MIRROR........... I always say do these fuckers know where they are going or are the just making up dumb shit.

But anyway Cuseloff said last year that every April - june they take a vacation like. Then in July the writers all get together to talk about the main story points they are going to talk about.

Whenever we first met Marvin Candle in Orientation it's not like Darlton knew the whole Miles Straum I talk to dead people story. But they knew that he was important in Dharma and they would use him later.

I still completely believe that they know the big important things and have for a while. IT'S A LEAP OF FAITH JOHN.

- Puny Bruce Banner like time paradox talk. Hulk like Juliet and Kate mud fight! Smash Puny Banner!

- Kyle - the question for me is whether or not the writers had a plan for the big things that they introduced after season 1 or if they were simply throwing shit at the wall while waiting to reveal their big twist ending that they had come up with before the pilot even filmed (purgatory :)).
I also have a sneaking suspicion that this season & next are going to partly be about fixing some of their past mistakes so that things gel a little better (like making the Swan hatch a focus when that storyline seemed so botched. Or bringing up the faked plane wreckage again)

- Happily Clip Show Day everybody! i'm going to catch it later in the week off of the DVR i think.

- Don't know if people saw this story about which shows are on the verge of being cancelled.
Looks like 2 shows i watch, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles and Reaper are both getting the axe.

Not that I watch it. But a bunch of peeps are gonna be pissed if Chuck doesn't get renewed (which from the sounds of it, it likely won't). Prob a good thing Ralph quit his Chuckcast.

I watched the first season of Chuck and thought it was alright. But I hear that it's gotten a lot better this past season. I think I will check it out at some point. Hopefully it sticks around, as it seems to be finding it's groove. But it's NBC. And they are getting whooped in the ratings wars of late. So I don't know if they will be too eager to keep around anything not currently doing well.

Also, stupid f'n Jay Leno is taking over all 10 pm timeslots. So as the article said, there won't be a lot of hour long shows on NBC anymore. What a stupid idea. NBC is now going to have FOUR talk shows a night! More time devoted to talk shows than normal scripted ones. How f'n stupid. Besides 30 Rock & sometimes The Office, that entire network is garbage. Although I will say, Parks and Recreation was a decent amount better in it's second episode. I actually laughed this time. The show might eventually find it's mark. Both The Office and 30 Rock needed a bit of time to find their comedic voice as well, if you recall.

Ryan - I only call you Herlihy as that's what you've chosen to go by on Blogger so, although I know you're called Ryan, I just tend to break out the H. It also helps nto to confuse casual readers, especially LOST fans who may think I'm talking about Ryan from The Transmission or any one of a number of other Ryans. I shall now endeavour to call you... (wait for it)...

Oh, you lot can call me what you want. In real life though, I tend to get called Jeph (pronounced like Jeff) more than anything. Even my tutors call me that.

That's because one halloween a few weeks ago, I got all dressed up like my favourite artist, Jeph Jacques, who draws and writes the webcomic Questionable Content. It was in my first year at uni and I introduced myself to everyone as Jeph. It's stuck. I kinda like it.

Jordan, you should check out S2 of Chuck at some point. I was on the fence for it last year, but have really enjoyed this season. They finally figured out a good balance between spy stories and the Buy More/Chuck's homelife. On a down note, they got rid of the Weinerlicious outfit for Sarah. It's not like it's the greatest thing ever on TV, but it's a clever show that generally leaves you feeling good after having watched it. Kind of like S1 of Pushing Daisies though much less twee.

Jordan, Leno taking the 10 o'clock time slot actually increased Chuck's likelihood of getting picked up for another season. The reason NBC opted for a Leno hour is because it's cheap programing. Keep in mind that NBC also gave up on Scrubs, a far superior show to Chuck which isn't going insane, but it is getting decent ratings on ABC.

If you want to be mad at anything be mad at American Idol or the original British version for inspiring it and Dancing With the Stars . These unscripted, low budget, highly rated shows are the cause of many of our favorite shows being canceled in favor of shows like these (i.e. Leno).

Do people still watch Deal or No Deal? That show is/was f'n stupid.

Re: Wolverine/Hulk. Wolverine would cut the Hulk's head off. I hate how they try and make it competitive.

It's all because Wolverine was not a real character when he first met Hulk. They jobbed him out then and now have stuck with the motif that the Hulk can f^ck with Wolverine.

uh oh...

Hulk v. Wolvie?

i need more info. they both have healing factors, right? how tough is Hulk's skin? and does Wolverine have adamantium right now?

Oi. Don't be blaming us. Blame everyone else who's watching them instead of those shows that you lot like and aren't getting high enough ratings to stave off cancellation.

Also, I was suggesting that Jordan was incorrectly aiming his frustration at NBC.

In the end it IS a numbers game and if not enough peeps are watching then the show willed be axed.

PalmerEldritch said...

i think he's pointing out that if the American public watched the holy hell out of Chuck, it'd be sure to come back. since Americans are not watching it, it's on the bubble.

"our" own dumb fault. but really the fault of the Neilson system and the Neilson families.

how do you spell Neilson?

also, i think Wolvie v. Hulk is kind of a toss up. Wolvie is an unstoppable little dude and Hulk is an unstoppable big dude. invariably, they'd fight and then find out that they must work together.

PalmerEldritch said...

speaking of, anyone watched "Hulk Vs."??

scrdmnkydst said...

It's Nielson.

Anonymous said...

There is one main question. Is the Hulk's skin tougher than adamantium?

If so, then the Hulk is indestructible. How can you kill him? Poison his food?

Also, is Hulk transforming or the permanent Hulk? Stupid Hulk or Hulk with Banner's intelligence?

The normal Hulk/original could easily be killed by Wolverine. Ok not Hulk, but Banner. You just set the Hulk up on a date and he turns into Banner leaving him defenseless. You then cut off his head.

What's with me and decapitations?

Anonymous said...

On a side note, I feel networks should give a show at least an 8 episode warning before cancellation.

Obviously this won't happen because shows want to get picked up for another season and will push the networks to wait until the latest time possible to decide whether or not to axe the show (usually when they announce the new fall schedule)

I hate when shows end without a resolution as much as when a show rushes a finally because they hoped they'd be back for another season ala Jericho.

Also, Herls do you know what's up with Red Dwarf: Back to Earth?

scrdmnkydst said...

How'd you mean? It was fun. But that didn't mean it was funny. It relied on an old foe. It was too Blade Runner-y but it wasn't as good. Basically, Doug Naylor is killing this by thinking he's funny. I liked it but only in the sense that it was like seeing an old friend after 10 years... and they haven't changed a bit apart from getting older.

I'd ask Chris though. He's more knowledgeable about this.

Fleudiddy said...

Hulk vs. Wolvie, Hulk wins period. All the Hulk has to do is grab Wolverine by the arms and pull. His limbs don't grow back like deadpool and if they did they wouldn't be adamantium laced. Game over.

PalmerEldritch said...

can Wolvie stick his arms back on?

Red Dwarf: Back to Earth was fun. some parts were funny. and you might be able to accidentally watch it on youtube. if you were so inclined. which none of us here are.

I dont have a problem if they decide to 'fix' their mistakes from the past in these seasons.

Hmm I don't know if they knew the big story points. I would almost guarantee that they knew about the fact that they were going to time travel and they probably knew that some of the survivors were going to end up in Dharma. They probably didn't have a name for it yet but I bet they did know they were going to use a scientific group to study the island in the past.

I really don't know you would have to take it point by point.

Here's a good question. If Ben would have let young Ethan go into that tent would we have then heard two gunshots? I bet because that kid was dedicated.

Jordan said...

As for me blaming NBC. Regardless if it's the viewers fault (middle America doesn't like good tv. there, I said it) or the network's, it doesn't matter. NBC is a clusterfuck of shit. Ask any tv critic with knowledge of how they do business. First of all, the guy handling the network is a moron. Ben Silverman. Among many of his blunders, he had the bright idea to not order pilots last year. So as to save money. So he simply green lit shows based on premise and pitches. Ladies and gentlemen, I give you, Kath & Kim. I could go on and on about all the stupid programming mis-steps NBC has made. But the facts lay in the numbers. As I said earlier, NBC has fallen apart and are taking a beating in the ratings. And for a reason. One thing real quick. A lot of people always go, "Well if the show isn't getting good ratings and people aren't watching, it must be the show or the fans fault." WRONG. How a network handles a show goes a long, long way in factoring into a show's ultimate success. How they promote it, where they schedule it, whether they allow the show to do what it wants. For an example, look no further than Fox's blundering of Arrested Development (and many other really good shows). And the whole Leno thing was one gigantic screw up. From the point when they tried to push him out so as to not lose Leno, to when the realized that they didn't want Leno to go to another network and kick their ass, and now they have Leno/Conan/Fallon/Daly. Yuck. Yeah, maybe Leno saves them money in the long run. But that's only if he's a huge hit at 10 pm (which I think remains to be seen) and NBC is able to write off producing shows for the 10 pm block forever. But still, Leno isn't cheap. And they are paying Conan a whole lotta cash to play second fiddle. Why am I still going on? NBC is a terrible, terrible network. And yes, the Leno move DOES lessen Chuck's chances of renewal. I can't remember if it was the article Andrew linked to, or something else I read. But the fact that NBC no longer has the 10 o'clock hour to program means that it has less spots for hour long shows in it's schedule. The article pointed out that if say Southland turns out to be a hit, that lessens the odds for all other shows. Leno took a HUGE % of NBC's programming slots. When that happened, the odds for every bubble show went down. Whatever, this is stupid. NBC sucks a fat one.

Wolverine/Hulk. In Lindelof's story, Hulk has Bruce Banner's intellect. But it doesn't seem that he is entirely able to keep his temper under control. And as for who would do what to who. SPOILER ALERT! Hulk rips Wolverine's body in half. But that happens in issue 1. So not really that much of a spoiler.

And I think it's Nielson.

memphish said...

I actually believe every Nielson home occupied by those over the age of 49 have stuck their TVs on CBS and don't know how to change the channel. More people are watching reruns of CBS shows than most anything NBC or ABC airs. But then how to explain the people who watch DWTS is beyond me. Oh wait, I know I watched the movie Idiocracy. It's those people who are watching DWTS and Deal Or No Deal which is the single most stupid show on TV.

scrdmnkydst said...

Deal Or No Deal is on in the mid afternoon so it doesn't clog up prime time... But then... I only really watch reality tv on uk tv.

Deal or No Deal is beyond stupid. The fact that the game show equivilant of "guess which hand" became such a huge hit tells you exactly what type of viewers you're dealing with. How I Met Your Mother had a funny take on dumb game shows when they had Regis hosting, the hit show "Heads or Tails".

Yes Holli, Idiocracy indeed. The sad thing is we really aren't that far away. And if it isn't that the Nielson families tv's are stuck on CBS, it's gotta be that old people don't know how to work their remotes.

Jordan, in all fairness NBC pushed Chuck pretty hard. Remember the 3D episode being hyped throughout the Super Bowl?

NBC has made many mistakes and handled many things incorrectly, but they did all they could to promote Chuck. The Super Bowl is the one of, if not the, highest rated televised event of the year and its demographic is the same as Chuck.

Anonymous said...

As to "Return to Earth". I hadn't heard of it. I was asking if it was a TV movie (3 parts) or they restarted the series.

Anonymous said...

One last thing.

I don't know how much Leno is making per show, but it's safe to say that the cost the Leno show will be nowhere near what it would cost to do Chuck. If I had to guess the budget is probably not even 10% of Chuck's. So when I say adding Leno HELPS Chuck it's because it frees up money.

NBC doesn't have any hit shows outside of Thursday night. Even Heroes, which I watch, is not bringing in good ratings (especially given its budget).
So given NBC's lack of programming and reduced budget, this puts Chuck in a better situation than if NBC was spending money on shows for the 10 o'clock time slot. The slack allows for them to POSSIBLY take a chance on bringing back a show like Chuck.

scrdmnkydst said...

Oh. It's just one story in three half hour parts. There's no other episodes as of yet. But I wouldn't be surprised if there's anymore episodes in the pipeline.

Anonymous said...

Common sense dictates that Wolverine would kill the Hulk pretty quickly if Wolverine wanted to.

The Hulk is a clown. Wolverine has far superior combat and military training. He would use his stealth skills and senses to make quick work of the Hulk.

The problem is that this would not be much of a story. Kind of like "What if the Punisher Had Killed Spider-Man."

Jordan said...

Mir, I never said that NBC didn't push Chuck enough on it's own. But NBC is a mess overall. Not that many people watch it, period. Therefore all the ratings for all it's shows suffer. TV viewers are creatures of habit. The same reason billions watch CBS, nobody is watching NBC. If NBC were better run, it would have more people to notice Chuck. And the Jay Leno move wasn't a big "Ooh, let's save money" idea. It was a combination of "Oh crap, Leno is going to go to ABC or Fox and kill us & our ratings will be even worse," and "All our shows are getting killed in the ratings. We give up. Can we please program less shows? The less shows we have to program, the less we can fuck up." Whatever savings they may or may not get are a bonus. And if they do save money from it. Don't think they are going to take that money and throw it back into their failed scripted shows. If they can save a portion of their burning house, they aren't going to just go and throw it back in the fire for the fun of it.

I guess we'll have to wait and see how the whole Leno experiment goes. Most people think that it won't go over so hot in the long run. Maybe at first. But that viewers will ultimately not really be ready for a talk show at 10 pm. I tend to agree. Really, more than anything, I just hope it doesn't end up a huge success. Because if it does (please don't), it could be the end of anything decent on the networks.

Because it will just reward NBC for giving up on scripted shows, and reward the ineptitude that caused them to. Also, if it's a big enough hit, the other networks will follow suit. And we will be on the path to the death of scripted network television. It will be nothing but talk shows, reality shows, and game shows. The sad thing is I actually think this just might happen. And that scripted shows will end up almost exclusive to cable and premium channels.

Given the way the antiquated Nielson system works, it's all pretty much doomed if you think about it. Nielson ratings overvalue dumb people who don't understand/can't afford dvr's or watch online. And they almost entirely do not give a shit about the people smart enough to use technology to their viewing advantage.

Again, Holli's Idiocracy comparison works perfectly. The young professional couple never has kids, so they are unable to pass on their seed (Nielson ratings). While the dumb redneck hillbillies living in a trailer have 20 kids (Nielson ratings) and eventually take over the world. It's really sad just excatly how much sense that makes. SIGH.

memphish said...

And if anyone here hasn't seen Idiocracy, they should.

You actually have to lay the blame for Pop/American Idol at the show it utterly stole it's format from: Popstars, created by Nigel Pickard. But then, that was British as well so I'll shut up.

I don't know what the US version of Deal or No Deal is like (and, like Big Brother, you can blame the Dutch for that one) but here it's like watching a self help group. I have been known to watch it if the contestant is particularly interesting and it's pretty hypnotic watching our host who is a former television pariah (and parochial right wing nutter) by the name of Noel Edmonds. He has a very unusual style. What I don't watch it for is the random opening of boxes to whoops of delight or yelps of despair.

Also, I understand that in some countries, the "deal" amounts offered to contestants are averages worked out by computer whereas our has the anonymous "banker" (the producer of the program and former The Mole guy) phoning up and offering ironic and amusing amounts of money.
