I wonder where I can get some building drapes like those behind Miles.

Hey Ralph -- report on Kimmel please.

Sorry it took so long for me to post the pre-ep thread. I have my busy moments at work...

scrdmnkydst said...

Why am i not even excited about this episode? :/

Jimmy said...

My thoughts as well, Herlihy. I'd much rather watch Breaking Bad. Hopefully I'll get back on board with LOST soon.

aimee is lost said...

Because it has a stupid title and Miles doesn't seem that interesting?

aimee is lost said...

The boyfriend has made me start watching Breaking Bad. It's pretty good, but Tim Watley has not aged well at all.

scrdmnkydst said...

I like Miles... but i'm guessing that this is going to be a bit of a filler episode.

Oh. I've just asked around what a "hoth" is. Apparently it's something to do with Star Wars... Hmm. I really should watch those films, because i miss so many cultural references because of it..

andrew. said...

* revokes Herlihy's geek-card.

- Miles is one of my favorite characters so i'm actually looking forward to this episode.

i predict GHOSTS!

PalmerEldritch said...

hopefully, Miles will talk to a lot of dead people. or an interesting dead person. or explain why the heck Widmore sent a guy who can talk to ghosts to the Island.

or reveal he's really PufferFishFaceMan from the third X-Men movie!

WIKIPEDIA:

In the fictional universe of Star Wars, Hoth is the sixth planet of a remote system of the same name. It is a world covered in snow and ice, with numerous moons, and pelted by meteorites from a nearby asteroid belt. Native creatures include the wampa and the tauntaun.

Also, the gang is in 1977 — the year of Star Wars

mb said...

I'm looking forward mainly to getting more Miles w/Hurley. Hopefully the dialogue will have some moments.

RE: the spoiler seg - I had mentioned that I was going to post preview clips when they became available, but all that is out this week is the Jimmy Kimmel video (with one clip which is just OK) so I'm just going to let all you good people look at it online if that's alright. Sorry!

Stephanie said...

OMG! What did you say, Ryan?!?

Palmer, tell the girlie friend she can find out who gets voted off tonight from the internet. I'll bet it's Lil Rounds tonight.

Yay! Cold ghosts!

mb said...

Damn! I just assumed that everyone here would know what Hoth is. I guess I truly am an oblivious geek - lol.

I wonder if the ep will have ANYTHING directly referencing The Empire Strikes Back. I said at the begining of the spoiler seg this week - as long as we don't get someone staying warm using an animals insides or a sister roughly kissing her brother, any other reference shouldn't be too jarring

andrew. said...

ooh. maybe Marvin Candle loses his hand!

memphish said...

Hoth predictions -- Hurley will give the 815ers away by telling the DI excited to finally get to see Star Wars that -- spoiler warning -- Darth Vader is Luke's father. Alternatively, they will actually reveal that Richard split open a polar bear in order to revive Young Ben in the temple.

I'll be happy to see the episode, but doubt it's going to be that satisfying given that there's a clip show next week. Hard to believe it's going to give us 2 weeks of stuff to discuss.

I'm not very into Star Wars but I think Hoth was the snow planet.

Nobody is excited about this episode. I still don't like miles that much I guess he's bearable now but not much. there is one potential relative of his I want to know things about.

mb said...

GOOD one Andrew! I like it!

And, that would be just about the funniest thing in the history of the show if Hurley were to go off about Star Wars and give away plot points to confused DI'ers

scrdmnkydst said...

Ok, so now i feel embarrassed for not knowing about Star Wars and confused for not knowing Star Wars. Sorry, I've never been interested in it at all. I've never been bothered about it. Sorry.

I know of the film Some Like It Hot though... I wonder if that has anything to do with it. If it turns out that this episode's title is just a throwaway line in the show then i'm going to be a bit annoyed.

mb said...

Maybe the late Robert Palmer will be resurrected to reunite with The Power Station and perform at DI rec hall 10 years before their first album.

A DI rec hall dance would be perfect fodder for sketch comedy. You'd have to have Radzinski standing off in the corner with a cup of punch while Pierre Chang keeps asking the band to turn it down. Actually I think EVERYONE would be lining the sides of the room around an empty dance floor, except maybe the guy from Friday Night Lights and brownie girl.

mb said...

Note in that video - you ever seen armpit shaving in a music video b4?

WTF?!?!

Jordan said...

I got the Hoth reference. Dammit.

memphish said...

Let's take it to Some Like It Hot -- an awesome movie -- what two Losties would dress in drag to avoid the Mob? Locke and Ben? And which of the two of those would hit on Sugar? Ben. I think Ben because Marilyn Monroe looks like "her."

Holli

scrdmnkydst said...

Well, it's a Miles episode isn't it? I'd assume that from the ABC description and the photo on the blog. So, Miles and someone dressing up as women... IT'll have to be him and his new best friend Hurley!

memphish said...

So Hurley and Miles are on the run from the DI, so they dress up like women and join an all-girl band that's headed to the Temple to perform. Along the way Miles falls head over heels with Cindy and enlists Hurley's help to woo her by pretending to be the real Charles Widmore complete with yacht and millions. I like it.

scrdmnkydst said...

Pfft. We could do a well better job than Cuseloff.

PalmerEldritch said...

that's the plot for the spin-off cartoon.

James said...

I'm surprised at the amount of people who didn't get the Hoth reference...but I guess that's a sign that Star Wars is getting pretty old.

This better be a good episode considering we are at Ep 13 of a 16 episode Season. I wonder if Miles will buy the farm?

mb said...

OFFICIALLY its 17 eps - if you count the finale as two eps (it's 2 hours).

So, I guess 17 hours, 16 episodes really. I can never think of the finales as separate episodes.

scrdmnkydst said...

Just like season 4 had 12 episodes and 14 hours?

PalmerEldritch said...

yes.

i'm looking forward to, but not frantically to, "Some Like It Hoth." partially because of its name. you gotta admit that it's a good one.

what other LOST titles can you come up with Star Wars references?

"Fett is Fett" ??

andrew. said...

- frozen in carbonite is frozen in carbonite
- A-Wing Pilot
- Bib Fortuna Rasa
- White Whomprat
- House Of The Rising Sith

- Man Of Science, Man Of Sorcerer Ways
- Whatever the Kessel Run May Be

you've got a six movie homework assignment, herlihy. :)

actually, just the original ones.

mb said...

Rock on! lmao

scrdmnkydst said...

...You're giving me homework? ...You're giving me homework to watch the Star Wars movies? Does this include the prequels and that CGI film as well?

What order should they be viewed in?

memphish said...

Just watch Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back, and then drink before you watch Return of the Jedi in order to be able to take the Ewoks.

Holli

PalmerEldritch said...

and by Star Wars, she means A New Hope. it got renamed from Star Wars to Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope

so, uh, watch

Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope
Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back
Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi

in that order.

two of 'em have LOST's own Billy Dee Williams!

STARBLAMO!!!!

Brad said...

Maybe I'm in the minority but I've had high hope for getting Miles and Hurley together, Maybe they'll see dead people together. And Hurley won't think he's crazy anymore.

Question for the shippers: would they by Hiles or Murley?

mb said...

What order.....

That is the big question in my household for when it's the Ace's time to view the sextology - original trilogy first? That's how I'm leaning.

Probably wait a few years on Revenge of the Sith though. pretty brutal violence (though not graphic)

/that can't be the right term for a series of 6 movies - that's naughty

scrdmnkydst said...

Ok. I'll get right on this. No, honestly. I actually will. But I'm making no promises to like it though.

PalmerEldritch said...

Hugiles?

Mileys?

Stephanie said...

I wish I were as clever as Andrew.

Just my luck. Today of all days, they are doing the floors in the office. They best be done by Lost time.

Hey enjoy tonight's episode you guys! Personally, I can't wait! but what's new, right? :)

I hope season 1's feel of Lost will hit us again. I've been missing that. You know, that mysterious feel, that "what the hell is happening, and what's going to happen next, and what does it all mean".
Sure there's still plenty unexplained, but still... I feel like the quality/episode has gotten a little down. Either that, or we've gotten used to such awesome television, it's starting to get normal, and anything slightly less feels a bit awkward.
Dunno, but I do know I will still enjoy tonight's episode nevertheless :-) (will have to enjoy it friday, but that neither here nor there)

Blow my fucking mind lost! Blow it!
My mind! It needs blown!
w00000000t!

- Wesh, your typing in caps combined with your Domokun avatar is hilarious.

- Mr. Ecko threw himself into the path of the bullets so that he could concentrate on his music career: http://www.lancereddick.com/- Herlihy, don't forget to watch the Star Wars Christmas Special. It's canon.

PalmerEldritch said...

Abaddon, hombre. Abaddon.

LOSTNESDAY!!!!

But first, a buffalo chicken sandwich. w00t!

Brad said...

Mileys?
Miley Cyrus -Disney superstar.
Disney owns ABC
ABC makes LOST
Therefore tonight's episode is going to be the first major step towards the series finale:
Miley Cyrus is Jacob in 3-D.

memphish said...

MB, We let the kid watch 4-6 in order, but have never made him watch 1-2 and still think 3's a little much. He loves The Clone Wars on Cartoon Network and that movie was okay. He's 9 now, but we started with the Star Wars at about age 7, I think.

Holli

Wesh said...

andrew: there must be an error. I didn't type in caps, and my post appears cap-less to me too. Odd.

other then that:
HI ANDREW! I'M STOMPING ABOUT IN A FLAILING FASHION! WATCH YOURSELF, MISTER!
^_____^

Jordan said...

MB, I think there is no question. The movies must be watched in original order. If one were to watch the prequels prior to the original trilogy, it would likely ruin the experience. I'm almost of the mind to say that the prequels should be avoided. But I actually think they aren't AS bad as a lot of people say. Well the parts when they aren't pod racing that is. But yeah, compared to the original films, blech.

Chris JC said...

MB, you'll be pleased to know you can use the word "Hexalogy" for your needs without any Sexy Worries.

mb said...

Thanks Holli and Jordan,

Yeah, I'm in no hurry for her to see any of the prequels (listen to me - this is all about me isn't it).
I'm like you Jordan - I enjoyed them for the parts that were actually decent, but the longer I can keep Jar Jar Binks out of my house I think the happier I'll be.

I'm finishing up recapping the original trilogy for her as bed time stories. It's a good test for your geekdom - try retelling all three movies in as much detail as you can. And keep everything in order!

At least I know I'm more accurate that this girl (you've probably seen this already)

mb said...

THANK YOU CHRIS! lol

that makes more sense :)

memphish said...

Part of the reason we wanted the kid to watch the movies was for playing Lego Star Wars first on the Game Cube, then on the Wii. That's also the reason he's seen the Indiana Jones movies. And for the record, the Star Wars franchise holds up over time much more than the Indy franchise.

t-dot kim said...

I've seen all 6 Star Wars movies...and I didn't get the Hoth reference either. I NEVER fall asleep in the theatre when I go to see a movie, but I fell asleep during Episode 1 and Episode 3. I actually saw Episode 3 TWICE in the theatre and fell asleep both times. I think it had something to do with my neighbour Hayden Christensen.

Keep in mind, I do have a special power to watch/listen to someone/something for 2+ hours and completely tune out what's happened. Especially Star Wars for some reason.

Looking forward to LOST.

What happened last night on Kimmel? Ralph was on? Whaaaaaaaa?

t-dot kim said...

...see there's an example of my not paying attention to detail :P

andrew. said...

jeez, my last post wall full of all kinds of "can't wait to get out of work" mistakes.

- yes. i meant Abaddon, or maybe Caesar... all LOST characters killed off prematurely look alike to me.

- Brad, excellent use of the Da Colbert Code logic.

- Boobs! i mean, LOST!
