A repost from last thread...

Sounds like you guys got the Gladiator name generator mixed up with the condiment name generator.

MB, I'm sure your spoiler segment is quite funny...but I'll listen to them after May 22nd.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ALLY...AND TELL YOUR MOM HAPPY BIRTHDAY TOO ;)

As for all the AG talk...where do I begin? Rocket Ball is my favourite new game. I like the Vertigo event, but I think that Phoenix chick had an unfair advantage. (Btw, I like her look). They should give the contestants a head start for sure in that event like they do in the wall. As for the wall, they need to give the contestants more than 7 seconds--the wall is twice as high! I was torn about that dude with one leg. It was uncomfortable to watch, but I wanted him to do well. Glad to see he finished the Eliminator. I think NBC listened to some of the feedback from last season. Less talking, more events!

In case anyone care, here is Rebecca Mader's myspace.

And this is for Ally.

Man, there was a blogspolsion while I was watching Amelie. Anyone who likes Pushing Daisies should definitely stick that one in their queue. I was completely charmed by it.

All these condiment names reminds me of going to the baseball game and getting to route for the condiments in their race between innings. Usually it's animated, but here's a brief live version.

memphish said...

Oops, route should equal root. Searching on youtube leads to bad grammar/spelling.

Happy Birthday Ally!

Congrats Gillian!

Broke my headphones this morning so there was me running round London like a nutter looking for some electronics. This story has a happy finish - TLI come in me ears.

mb said...

Kim - you might want to wait until May 29th (that's when the final 2 hours air) :)

Also, just as a reminder for anyone wanting to listen but not wanting to get spoiled - there are NO spoilers at the begining of each podcast until AFTER the music starts up.
There ARE 2 or 3 episodes where I use music as part of the beginning banter/skit, but I always make it clear when I am about to get to the spoilers. So, you can always tune out at that point.

Oh and apparently - as a condiment - I am Mayonnaise. Which makes complete sense with the shape I'm currently in - lol :)

t-dot kim said...

whoops...I knew that :P

Stephanie said...

Elias, I always buy two pair because I am rough on earbuds. Always have spare in emergencies.
Amelie- mention of the title alone makes me happy. But as I mentioned on the last Cue the Film podcast, don't expect sweet from any other Jean Pierre Jeunet film. The rest are weird. And this coming from someone who likes weird.

[ally] said...

Thanks Kim.

I said thanks to andrew in the last post but in case you didn't get the thanks.

Thanks Andrew!

[ally] said...

I just realized Kim gets Lost for her birthday!

And what do I get?

Wednesday. That's what I get.

Jordan said...

Amelie is a great film. I have lent it to many a friend, who have all loved it. Audrey Tautou is great in it.

andrew. said...

- Ah, there's a new post. I was refreshing the old one wondering why everyone jettisoned for the day

- Amelie is a wonderful film. 5 stars. I missed it in the theater but i bought the DVD sight unseen because I loved all of Jeunet's films (well, except Alien Ressurection). I'm still feeling a little wounded that Stephanie thought City Of Lost Children was too weird.

The 1st DVDs I bought when I got a computer that could play them were: Brazil (Criterion Boxset), The Seventh Seal, 7 Samurai, and City Of Lost Children.

- MB: you must have the most thankless job doing the spoilers for a spoiler free show. I've been downloading them, and, when we get through the finale, I'll marathon them. promise.

Wesh said...

happy birthday Ally! I hope your day was allready filled with awesome, and wish that the remaining gets exponentially more awesome.

Also, yes you've Wednesday, but you also got Desmond :)

Srs. Amelie. Best french film ever. The best german film must be Run Lola Run. I had to study that for Media Studies while at Sixth Form... It was amazing. Watching films and coming up with loads of shit about them.

Not that dissimilar to my degree really. English Literature, wtf.

Thanks Wesh!

I feel better now. I'm about to go into a sugar coma, I just ate a big ass cookie.

mb said...

Andrew - thanks for the kind words, but I totally wouldn't do this if I didn't enjoy it.

Also kind of you to want to listen to a marathon of TLI Spoilers - but I'd take it in doses if I were you - lol

I understand we're having an attack of the birthdays again.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO EVERYONE!

I missed all the American Gladiators talk. The new vesion of Gladiators in the UK is on a channel that I don't have so haven't been able to enjoy Lancashire body builders being told not to speak too much so their accents don't amuse.

I'm glad to see some of our old Gladiator names have been resurrected, but me - I still picture:

JET the Gladiator

and

WOLF the Gladiator

And, for those who enjoyed the Bombdog clip:

Chris JC said...

Oops - I didn't edit that last bit out when I couldn't find a decent, immediate clip of Wolf being duped on comedy show Brass Eye.

PalmerEldritch said...

i wonder (non-spoileringly) whether tonight's episode and the other two thirds of the season finale are going to be ALL one character's flashes?

would that just get annoying? maybe we'll get a multitude of flashes?

[ally] said...

***********************
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, KIM!
***********************

[ally] said...

I was thinking about that too, Palmer. I'm not sure what they're gonna do, but it seems more than likely that it'll just be one big flash-forward, since they're all together?

Did anyone catch Evangeline Lilly last night on Kimmel? She was cute as a button.

Also, this guy was on. I know some people are fans of his already. And by some people I mean Steph ;) He was also cute as a button.

Trevor McFur said...

Happy b-day Kim!

mb, it's always tough to fight off temptation and not check out the splog when you dangle those little spoiler tidbits here.

memphish said...

I'd guess we're going to get multi character flashes and that the flashes will be in the forward direction.

Holli

Trevor McFur said...

Ally, I like the idea of mass flash-fowards tonight. This is the most unspoiled I've ever been for a season finale; usually I know at least who-centric it is. Maybe it will be completely-out-of-left-field centric, like Penny or Charles Widmore.

PalmerEldritch said...

we haven't had a sawyer episode for a while, right?

maybe we'll have a mass flashback episode... but the present will be the future? so the flashback would be getting off the Island?

hrm...

Trevor McFur said...

"but the present will be the future..."

You just blew my mind.

[ally] said...

I think that was supposed to be the future will be the present.

I agree, I think that's the way it'll eventually play out. We will continue from this moment forward as off island and will only have flashbacks to the island from now on.

??

Stephanie said...

Happy Birthday, Kim.

Ally, I'm trying to talk Morgan into skipping her "Fun Day" at school to see Prince Caspian. My husband will kill me for going to the movies 3 times in two weeks. After I think about it, that doesn't seem too bad since he's been fishing many more times than that lately. We'll see. I wish there was a theater closer to me than 40 minutes away.

scrdmnkydst said...

Stephanie said...

Ben Barnes- This is for when I get home and can access videos.

memphish said...

I think the preview after the episode aired last week made it pretty clear what the focus of at least this first hour will be in terms of flashes. I'm interested to see if we'll get 3 hours of that flash or rather something different in the back 2 hours.

So is anyone still interested in The Office? Season finale's tonight. Will there be a Jam proposal for real?

Last night it was revealed that Prince Caspian (the actor not the prince) was in a boy band.

He was so adorably ashamed.

memphish said...

CQ has been at the top of my Netflix queue for a week now, but they still haven't shipped it. They must have only 1 copy despite the available now claim.

There's been some debate about last week's The Office -- whether or not it was the worst episode ever. I'm pretty sure I'd put in that category.

in the words of our very own Michael, "Where is the funny?"

I'm so over The Office right now, they've ruined it with the Jam fest. I've moved on to 30 Rock.

I like the masturbation joke, The Deuce is in good hands.

scrdmnkydst said...

masturbation jokes? I'd much rather do 10 pages of them...

Plus, if the future's in my hand... I don't hold much hope.

Also... I'm thinking of sacking it off and just going to Subway.

Jordan said...

"the whole jim and pam thing gets a resounding "meh" from me as of late."

Agree 100%. I'm also with Ally. The show isn't doing it for me much of late. They should've taken a page out of Gervais' book and ended it after a couple seasons. But that doesn't work that way in Ameri$$$$ca. 30 Rock all the way.

Jordan said...

I'm actually to the point where I want Jim and Pam to break up FOR GOOD and just go on with things. To me, it's ruined the show. That and various other factors. Their cutesy scenes are anything but funny. "Aw, Jim has a ring. How hilarious."

Chris JC said...

Herlihy - I once expressed my opinion of Nathan Barley on here, but it was not favourably received by all.

Admittedly, though, it wasn't really constructive criticism.

Jordan said...

"don't worry. britain makes shit-tastic television too. just that we don't import and watch it unless it's pretty good (or Benny Hill)."

Oh totally. I've watched plenty of crappy british tv. I was just saying that in the US, nobody is allowed to kill off a good thing if it's a money maker. Where as Gervais was able to end on his own terms before the show started to get stale. The US version is beginning to feel very stale to me.

Trevor McFur said...

I heard that show Lost was allowed to pick an end-date. :)

Definitely an exception though.

PalmerEldritch said...

coincidentally, we're posting on a site about LOST which is a highly successful show that set its own end date. :)

PalmerEldritch said...

damn you, trevor!!!!

heheheheheheheheh. good stuff.

Jordan said...

Yes, but an end date after 6 seasons. I don't think ABC agreeing to Damon and Carlton's demands was that big of a deal. Who knows if the show will even be much of a ratings grab by that point. I think ABC pretty much has pegged it as a niche/fan driven show and nothing more. Hence it being bumped around to different nights and times. It's still a decent draw. But it's not comparable to NBC and The Office, which is one of it's biggest shows right now. Plus, going out after 6 seasons is way different than going out after 2 or 3.

Jordan said...

The only way The Office can redeem itself right now is if Pam turns down Jim's proposal and tells him that she is secretly sleeping with Andy...and Dwight.

PalmerEldritch said...

dont forget Cousin Moes.

memphish said...

I did hear one spoiler from The Office that could throw a wrench in Jim's plan. The crazy thing is that they're talking Office spin-off when right now The Office has been in a big slump.

I've been re-watching Seinfeld this past week. I got the entire series DVD set for Mother's Day. Amazing how you get what you want when you ask for it. Back when it was considered borderline in the ratings it was getting a 24 share. That would lead all sitcoms and most other things these days.

LOST's ratings have been slumping since it came back from the brief hiatus. My theory is that people are banking them on their DVR to watch in a spurt. In fact everything on TV this season post-writer's strike including American Idol has been down in the ratings. I don't understand why the Producers aren't throwing money at SAG under the circumstances. Do they want to kill TV once and for all?

Holli

mb said...

That's a good point Holli. Ratings (in the Nielsen sense) are going to become less and less relavent as people time-shift their viewing more and more, with DVRs, DVDs and iTunes. Lost's profitability as a brand name is tied to a lot more than ratings and I think that Jordan is right that ABC is probably counting on its profitability coming from on-going DVD rentals/sales, merchandise, iTunes purchases etc. as much as anything else (and whatever else those Ferengi-like marketing people put forth to get us to spend $$ on the show we love - lol)
Of course the die hard fans generally watch it ASAP which Nielsen can track. But it IS a show whose audience is generally more tech-saavy than others and I'll bet that the overall number of people (around the world really) who watch Lost, do so through a wider variety of sources than many other shows. I also assume that Nielsen doesn't track on-line viewing, or do they? I know little of these things.

Chris JC said...

They certainly can't track my viewings of LOST, or the viewing of the same episode by at least four other people and possibly more, which come after me in the chain.

Ratings don't work when us impatient, international crimelords get in on the act.

They haven't yet noticed that its in their interest to ensure almost simultaneous dissemination of programming around the world and also to take it into account.

Basically - Cane started here a few weeks ago, right? Meaning that anyone with an interest already knew it had been cancelled which means they more than likely didn't bother start watching.

If, however, Cane was shown in a bunch of different countries at almost the same time, and all of the ratings tracked then even if it's not doing great guns in the US, it might be dong well elsewhere and therefore be worth still making, especially with the very real possibility that word of mouth might bring more viewers to it. And frankly, the idea that a series might not just cancelled after two episodes might make more people willing to invest in them.

How many people do you know now who don't watch a new series, but will wait until there's at least a season on DVD and go for it on that?

I bet there's a few.

I've not watched Cane, of course, and I'm glad it got shut down as it means us LOST nutters get some Alpert Action. But it was just an example.

I'm no longer sure if I made an excellent point, or just spouted a load of rubbish. Thoughts?

Jordan said...

Cane was trash. Be thankful.

Chris JC said...

Cane was just an example, though, could easily have been talking about, say, Firefly.

mb said...

I agree Chris

(I wish I had more in me to say)

on a TRIVIAL note:
Today is the birthday of L. Frank Baum - author of The Wizard of Oz (which is of course where tonight's episode title comes from)

note: for those spoiler free folk who don't want to know the title - there are more things in that story than I can think of right now that I could be referring to - so I would deem this NOT a spoiler. I hope I haven't pissed anyone off - lol
