Best line so far ... "Checkmate Mr. Eko".

Cheesiest plot twist ... bullet hitting the fuel tank. Gimmie a break; why is it that no one ever notices or smells all that gas streaming out?

Guess that Mike really is dead this time. What was he in, maybe 6episodes total this year? I still don't believe Jin is gone, though.

Anonymous said...

I don't know why, but my mind has yet to be blown. Come onnnn Lost. We've got half an hour to go-make me lose sleep tonight!

Mr. Bill said...

WOW! Did the island cause the tsunami in Sri Lanka?

Malcolm in RVA said...

10 bucks says this website is bull shit, but its worth exploring during the hiatus.

Last five seconds:

Mind. Blown.

Thank you, Lost. Thank you. The rest of it was slightly filler-ish, but it was nice to see Desmond and Penny back together (yay!), and how the O6 got to South East Asia in the first place.

Holy crap, though, the whole episode I was thinking 'what episode have I missed where we met this Jeremy guy?' And now I know.

Malcolm in RVA said...

oh, wait. is that just a comic-con thing?

so...locke...is the oceanic seventh? So this is the end... or is it the start? Of what?

and speaking of jeremy davies...what happened to dan and his rando crew? they were in the vicinity of the island, but not quite on it...

hmm...how did locke get off the island, is he really dead, what happened to the people on the island, where is dan, is jin dead, why did charlet stay, did sawyer fuck juliet?!?

i dont know if i can survive this hiatus.

Unknown said...

Did anyone else think that Ben looked a little grey/dead at the end, or was it just because he was in the shadows?

Trevor McFur said...

Thought for sure it was Ben. My cousin was right on Locke, and right on the suicide (although I think that it wasn't really suicide). She swears up and down too that she wasn't spoiled...

So did the wreckage from the freighter move with the island? I would think not because the chopper should have been between the island and the wreckage. Shit, there goes my hopes that Jin might still be kicking.

And is Sun now playing for the other team?????? I guess we know who the other person is now.

Trevor McFur said...

And octagonglobalrecruiting.com is Lost-associated. The 'recruiting drive' is comic-con. I signed up for the mailing list.

[ally] said...

According to what Sayid said to Hurley, it wasn't a suicide. It seems to me like Sayid killed him. Or at least that's what I gathered.

Stephanie said...

1) Thank goodness Desmond got to change shirts.
2) Tears seeing taller Walt.
3) How terrifying would it be being trapped in an open helicopter with a hysterical woman.
4) Yunjun is so very elegant and demure.
5) Tears when Sun lost it even though I refuse to believe Jin's dead.
6) Does Sun go to the Widmore side? Opposite the other 5?
7) Cried the hardest with the Pez reunion.
8) Morgan called Sawyer jumping out of the copter early on, except she mentioned The Matrix for some reason.
9) Sawyer risked his life so the 6 could get to the freighter. I was expecting something of that nature.
10) Why didn't somebody stick their finger in the bullet hole to stop the gas from leaking?
11) Frozen donkey wheel was an actual frozen wheel. Didn't expect that.
12) Awesome opening scene with Kate putting the Volvo in reverse. Wasn't expecting that.
13) Why is Christian wearing that striped shirt buttoned all the way to the top? He looks like a geek.
14) The rescue and the lies all make sense now.

Trevor McFur said...

I think maybe Widmore's group.

And I think too that Walt will be one of the ones going back next season.

And Ben went immediately from moving the island to the desert ... and a year into the future?

Trevor McFur said...

Stephanie, I thought the same thing about Christian's nerd shirt.

I also loved the opening scene picking up directly after last season's finale. Nice to see too Kate ripping into him.

Ben turning that wheel was the most hard-core sci-fi that they've ever done.

And I think that Sawyer and Drunk Juliet were bumping uglies about 30 seconds after they realized what happened.

Unknown said...

Maybe that's what happened with Locke. The "bad stuff" happened and he had to move the island and sacrificed himself to save everyone/island.

Trevor McFur said...

My last post, when I said 'Widmore's group', I was answering Ally's post about Sayid killing Locke. I mean that, I think it was Widmore's group that killed Locke.

Stephanie said...

Thanks for clarifying, Trev. I was confused.

Stephanie said...

Well, no dead Claire. There's always next season.

Stephanie said...

Charlotte would be too young to be Annie, right? Maybe she's Ben and Annie's child.

Trevor McFur said...

I watched the pop-up Lost for the first time tonight. In the Nadia/Sayid reunion scene, the pop-up said that Sayid was supposed to torture her, but couldn't bring himself to do it. That's not true, right? He did do it, but helped her escape only when she was to be executed??? I think maybe we have our answer as to whether or not the pop-ups are canon.

Anonymous said...

I totally agree, Steph. All I could think was 'Jack, lean out, and cover the damned hole with your hand.'

So stupid.

But yeah, Jin is dead, imo. I mean, he could have survived the explosion, but no where to swim to? Either the Dharma Shark will get to him, or he'll die of exhaustion. : ( Sad stuff.

Trevor McFur said...

So the island wants everyone to come back ... but Claire says to Kate, "Don't you dare bring him back". Claire is with christian, who represents Jacob, who represents the island. So is Aaron supposed to come back or not? Is claire acting against the island because she's still his mother? And if Aaron is supposed to go back, why did the island let him leave in the first place?

Stephanie said...

Where did Daniel and the Zodiac end up?

Trevor McFur said...

They didn't even need to use their hands. When they landed on the freighter, Frank used some duct tape that he had on him. That whole 'bullet hole in the fuel tank' drove me nuts because it's such a cliche.

Trevor McFur said...

I figure that the zodiac went with the island. Maybe the island and everything a mile radius or so surrounding it moved?

PalmerEldritch said...

hrmm...

my buddy brought over her laptop for me to "take a look at" during the show. which meant i was trying to bitchslap her slow ass machine back into shape instead of paying LOST the attention that it deserved.

while i saw everything and whatnot, nothing really registered on an emotional level. it was kind of like "this happened and then this happened and then this happened." i assume that's cuz i wasnt paying 100% attention so i'll try to rewatch the episode soon. heck, i guess i've got until february, right?

Trevor McFur said...

Why exactly did Michael need to go back to the island?

[ally] said...

speaking of bitchslappin' how great was that kate bitchslappin' jack?

[ally] said...

claire scared the piss out of me when she turned around from the shadows. her wig only seem to get worse when she's creeping around in someone's dreams.

is emilie de ravin pregnant or something? she seemed kinda chubby in that scene.

[ally] said...

so michael died, but walt seems to think he's still alive.

Mr. Bill said...

Yeah Claire was kind of creepy.I'm still loving the frozen donky wheel!

PalmerEldritch said...

do we have our first TLI thong sighting?! safe for work so don't worry.

how many spoiler episodes did MB do this season? 13? gotta listen to 'em all tomorrow.

i was a bit disappointed by the coffin reveal. i guess just cuz it'd been built up in fan's minds since last season's finale though.

interestingly, didn't Harold Perrineau (sp?) totally call it as being Locke at last year's Comic-Con?

if thats the end of Michael, are we happy with his role this season? i really like Michael and Walt so i was a bit disappointed when Michael (and Jin) went boom. i'd've preferred them to go out swinging. ya know? but it's LOST so maybe we haven't seen the end of them.

the frozen donkey wheel was a bit weird. that's gunna require some explaining in the coming seasons.

like i said before, i need to rewatch these episodes when i'm not distracted.

PalmerEldritch said...

oh yeah! and was Charlotte born on the Island?!

[ally] said...

i thought he meant it as something like maybe her and regina would go sneak into the island for some fun. i don't know why i thought that.

Frozen Wheel of pain, just like "C to the B"!!

mb said...

JEEEZZUZ...I'm spent. I was physically tense for about 80% of that thing - it's a good thing, I totally enjoyed it, but it was intense. The spoilers I had read weren't kidding - a lot of shit went down in that episode. Dayum!

re: Claire telling Kate not to bring Aaron back - I'm going to guess now that she will end up returning to the island but WITHOUT Aaron.

re: Puberty-Walt visiting Hurley - It thought that was sweet (as in warm/fuzzy). I'm trying to decide if Hurley was lying to Walt to spare his feelings or something, or if Michael really is alive. I guess it all depends on what Christian Shepherd meant by "you can go now"

Loved seeing Sayid and Keemy go toe to toe, and Sayid get to sink a nice long knife into that douchebag.

The island disappearing? Fucking AWESOME visual, seeing the residual GIANT ripple in the ocean. EXCELLENT - I loved that!

Of course I was punching my fists in the air when Penny looked over the side of her boat. Didn't expect that to happen yet. VERY happy surprise! Of course, now it's the hiding game for them and hope (unbeknownst to them yet) that Ben doesn't find them. This must be what Widmore meant saying "you'll never find her" to Ben in "The Shape of Things to Come"

Don't really know what else to say. Enjoyed the hell out of it. Overall I thought it was a really exciting story with movement and action being it's strength. Andrew - not sure why you thought the script was a mess - It seemed like they juggled a lot of stuff pretty well. Say more - I'm interested :)

mb said...

Oh - and I guess I will be visiting octagonglobalrecruiting.com a lot in the near future.

Just a thought - could a resurrected Dharma Initiative be what helps get the O6 back to the island?

I should clarify that last post - I will be CHECKING BACK to octagonglobalrecruiting.com to see if they add more to it - lol (I'm not seeing anything beyond the front page (except for ABC/Disney terms & conditions and privacy policy)

I dunno Palmer. I wasn't fixing any crappy laptops and I had the exact same reaction. None of the scenes that were meant to be emotional came off as such to me for whatever reason. I still enjoyed it and was mostly satisfied. But this paled in comparison to last season's finale.

"urgh. i enjoyed it. it's Lost. some crazy shit happened. kept me guessing. uh... that script was a mess."

Agreed. I give them an A for effort considering the circumstances coming off the strike and what not. But...

"the frozen donkey wheel was a bit weird. that's gunna require some explaining in the coming seasons."

I'm guessing that's not going to happen. Obsessive Lost nerds, meet your new four toed statue. ;)

I need to get some sleep. I ended up crashing when I got home from work due to only getting 3 hours of sleep the night before. I got up at 2 am and decided to watch the finale in fear of being spoiled. I'll post a bunch of random thoughts and impressions tomorrow during work.

Jordan said...

One thing til then. There was one scene on the raft after the helicopter crash where the camera was focused on Jack. Was I the only one who couldn't ignore how terrible a green screen shot it was? Looked like Palmer shot it on his handy cam or something.

And the Ben turning the wheel scene looked like something out of a made for tv Merlin movie.

Stephanie said...

There were two shots- one of Hurley in the copter and Jack on the raft where it looked grainy or something. Like a visual "Later Dudes. I'm heading to the hatch" or something.

memphish said...

Lots of questions this morning primarily of the "where is" sort. I like the idea that Walt needs to go back too. Locke did visit him after all. And I did think Ben looked like a vampire in that last scene.

Holli

Stephanie said...

Palmer, you have to set ground rules for viewing Lost, especially finales. No company, no phone calls and no talking except for during commercial breaks when you stop to catch your breath.

memphish said...

What was the deal with the Kate horror movie sequence? Is she going back or not? Is Claire the same as Charlie (and Eko) or an opposing force?

And why is the only thing Jack agreed with Locke about the lying? If you can't find the Island, how's lying about it going to help? More Jack dumb-assery.

Holli

PalmerEldritch said...

holli, from jack's perspective, lying about the Island helps you not get KILLED by whomever planted the plane.

from locke's perspective, jack lying about it helps protect the island.

PalmerEldritch said...

steph, you're 100% right. i should've just told her to come back again later and i'd help her out. i'll probably rewatch the episode this weekend.

i figured it was penny's boat cuz who else would be in the area? and then that dude started speaking all Scotsman like (was that english but just in a Glaswegian accent or something?!) i figured there was a Desmond connection.

why does the Island need everyone back?! and why is it important enough that Locke come back to get them instead of sending Alpert or Cindy (and she could pick up some delicious KFC while she's there)?

Trevor McFur said...

I did enjoy the episode, and thought that it was exciting and action-filled, but definitely felt that it paled in comparison to last year's finale, and even some of the episodes from earlier this season. I think it's maybe because there wasn't any major surprises ... we kind of knew how things would end up, generally, and pretty much all this episode did was kind of fill in the blanks as to how they got there. The O6 and Ben, off the island, check. The island moved with the others trapped there, check. Jin looking dead, but we don't know for sure, check. Even the reveal of Locke being in the coffin wasn't a big surprise, as most people would have guessed him as their second if not their first choice.

And I've been thinking about the big lie too. Jack says that they have to lie to protect themselves ... but the ones that they're trying to protect themselves from know that it's a lie; and wouldn't exposing the coverup so it's not a big secret anymore help to protect them even more (now, they only have a few people to kill to keep it secret, if they go public, it can't possibly be kept secret)?

PalmerEldritch said...

yeah, trevor, i too felt like a lot of the episode was connecting the dots. wish we had had another episode or two to do that. darn those greedy studio execs for causing the WGA strike!

i'm now listening to MB and Mac. w00t.

memphish said...

That's pretty much my thinking too Trevor. Why lie when the people that want to kill you already know who you are. And as for the Island, Widmore knew what Ben was going to do or try to do, so that's no skin off his nose either. Lying is only protecting Jack's bad choices from being exposed.

And I still don't get why the world is buying the plane crashed in the wrong ocean story.

PalmerEldritch said...

lying sort of makes sense to me.

you know these fuckers might want to kill you cuz you can expose them, and you really don't want to have to hide from everyone forever. so, you agree with their lie. and you do so publicly so they know you won't rock the boat. and your notoriety keeps you safe from them (presumably) and brings their lie even more believability.

as long as they think you're playing along, you're safe.

i'm not sure what happens if you tell the truth. maybe no one would believe you? maybe Freighties send even more people to the Island? maybe they try to kill you to shut you up for exposing their lie?

Trevor McFur said...

I can see that, palmer.

memphish said...

But the island's not there. Nothing in the lie prevents another freighter from going to that location, or Jack either for that matter. But if you go, it's not there. So I guess that means Locke turned the wheel again or he would have been able to go back.

Holli

memphish said...

But the lie does stop conspiracy theorists and gives closure to the other 815 families.

Holli

Ralph- said...

So, Daniel is on his way to pick up all the survivors of the freighter explosion on the Zodiac???

PalmerEldritch said...

the lie also keeps you out of Santa Rosa. :)

"uh... well, we landed on this magic island with a monstrous pillar of smoke who jumps out of the ground. there was a Scotsman who lived underground and wasn't allowed to use Instant Messenger on his old Apple II. then we did laundry in his hatch for a while until we didnt enter the magic numbers into the computer. the hatch exploded and - oh. did we mention that there was this guy who said he came in a balloon but really lived on the jungle island in a suburb in the middle of the trees? cuz they used to do experiments with electro-magnetism and polar bears on the island. ok, so, then there was taller ghost Walt and a crazy french woman who lived in the jungle..."

Trevor McFur said...

At the very least, we can now put to bed the theory that Jack and Kate at the airport is the finale of the series.

PalmerEldritch said...

hopefully, Ralph. if Daniel saves Jin and Michael, that'd rule.

then Jin and Michael can vow to never get on a boat with each other again. cuz, really, it's just bad luck to have those two on a boat together.

Trevor McFur said...

I wonder why Tall Walt didn't ask Hurley for the money he owed him. And also why Tall Walt and Grandmama didn't come forward themselves to contradict the O6's story.

PalmerEldritch said...

why bother foiling the O6 story? Walt's already (somehow) got a secret identity to protect him from [someone], right?

Jordan said...

"So, Daniel is on his way to pick up all the survivors of the freighter explosion on the Zodiac???"

That was what first came to mind for me. Faraday being caught in no man's land has to be for some reason.

memphish said...

Doesn't Dan already have a boatload? And how about those greedy copter folk taking a life raft too! I think Michael is dead, but may live on Island like Christian who released him. Jin I don't want to be dead, but if he isn't it feels a bit like a cheat.

Holli

Trevor McFur said...

Maybe for the money.

Actually, Tall Walt and Granny could be scared that badness might happen to them if they come forward.

I figure that Faraday and the redshirts were close enough to the island that they went with it when it moved. If not ...... maybe they could rescue Jin!!!!!!1!

Jordan said...

I don't totally believe Jin is dead for one reason. TV shows and movies almost never kill off a somewhat main character off screen without much confirmation. Whenever it's the old "Didn't see him die, but there's no way he could've survived that," I'd guess that 8 times outta 10, the person does in fact survive. My guess is Sun is willing to team up with Widmore because she believes Jin is still alive. If that's the case, I don't see how they'd go through that storyline with an in fact dead Jin not to be found.

Trevor McFur said...

Remember during the first two years, Darlton would always make this big deal, "When someone dies on the island, they stay dead". Yeah........

For as cool as the Keamy-Sayid fight was, Keamy's death wasn't near as satisfying as I wanted it to be.

[ally] said...

i think everyone wanted keamy's death to be more violent. i'm happy with the way he went, he blew up a freighter along with his death! how much more violent could it have been?

i like the fact that we got a sayid/keamy showdown before it happened, i was about 60% sure keamy was dead after that first time, but was wondering why the freighter hadn't blown up, i figured it had to do with the time difference thing. but later it turned out to be because he wasn't actually dead.

I thought that Damon and Carlton said 3 people from the original cast would die in this episode? Michael, Jin, and who? Sorry, everyone, I was very disappointed in this episode as the unanswered questions are beginning to just get too overwhelming, the show is getting too weird ( the frozen wheel, come on), and it will probably lose a few million viewers again for next year. Bummer. And again, why do so many people hate Jack? I just don't get it. After the Kate/Sawyer kiss and jump, he told Kate they would go back to get Sawyer. How could he be more noble?

PalmerEldritch said...

robert, i dont entirely get the Jack hate either. how bad off would these schmoes be without Jack this whole time?

Anonymous said...

i think people don't like Jack because they don't want to "follow the norm" and root for him since he's been the hero/anti-hero of the entire show. Maybe people are just sick of him. But, seriously, if I were trapped on an island I would stick to him like glue. He's a frackin' doctor who takes charge and seems to know what he's doing.

Also, there are so many other people to root for that he has sort of been overshadowed these last few seasons.

mb said...

You know Ralph that's a really good point - lol. I was feeling the same thing as Jordan - disappointed in the death scene, but its true, both Ben and Sayid got to stab the shit out of him and he suffocated on his own blood (right? or maybe it was just blood loss that did it). I think I just wanted something to break him mentally so that he had an "oh...fuck" look on his face when he died, but he never broke. Damn resilient dude, I'll give him that.

As far as Michael and Jin surviving, I totally want them to be alive - clichés be-damned, and after Hurley said to Walt that they were protecting everyone including Michael, I thought it was possible, but it looks like it's not happening according to Harold Perrineau (unless Cuselof are secretly keeping their options open). This is disappointing - and while I'm not sure I 100% agree with Perrineau's complaints, I do feel like we are getting cheated out of a good ending to a storyline - similar to how I'm feeling about Rousseau dying.

mb said...

Palmer beat me to the Perrineau article - well played sir! :)

i'm three forward looking podcasts in, MB. just ten more to go!

i agree with Perrineau on some issues. he character was severely underused. but i dont think there is any malicious reason why black characters get short changed on the show. more likely it's just poor luck and Triple A wanting off the show.

mb said...

People (certainly not just you Robert) seem to be having issue with the Frozen Donkey Wheel (the actual set piece and concecpt behind it I take it.

I guess I'm just too much of a sci-fi geek. I love it - I love all the sci-fi crap. And I was pretty sure the show was going sci-fi in some form or another when the trees got shaken around in the pilot episode and Charlie says "great". Don't get me wrong, there are elements that have worked better than others, but having this huge-ass wheel, like a cog in a machine, that you have to turn with all your strength, which makes the island disappear...I love it. I thought it was a great image - Ben, in the dharka, in this frozen room, pushing this wheel like a beast of burden, crying from the pain of having to leave this place that he's so much a part of and feeling, I assume, like he's been cast aside essentially. And then the visual of the island disappearing. Can't get enough of that crap - lol.

Just my thoughts

mb said...

wow Palmer - you really are marathoning the spoiler segs - lol.

the Frozen Donkey Wheel made me hope for a Steampunk island rigged up the by crew of the Black Rock. gears, steam power, and magical anti-matter anomalies!

Harold really comes across as a bitter ex in that article. That's an awesome way to leave the show, by going on a tirade about racism. He's nuts. "Hey man, why'd the smoke monster have to be black? Racist Darlton."

Robert said...

I can't believe Perrineau played the race card in that interview. Maybe he would have a better storyline if he didn't have "Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaalt" to live down and a child named Wynter Aria. Kidding, of course. Guys, these writers are making this shit up as they go along. They know where they are headed, but they have opened up too many holes they cannot possibly fill. The Lost "community" is so obcessive that we need real answers and I am now very doubtful if we will even get half of our questions answered when it is all said and done. I sure hope that I am wrong, but the frozen wheel just may be the proverbial "shark."

Robert

Anonymous said...

Oh yeah, and why is the ship called the BLACK Rock?! Racist.

PalmerEldritch said...

it's strange that the producer's fought so hard to get Michael back on the show and then didnt seem to know what to do with him once he was there.

"yeah! we want you back!!! we're going to not reveal you until midway through the season, get you to have one episode, and then we'll have you in about 30 seconds of a few episodes and then blow you up without any fanfare. sound good?"

[ally] said...

MB is probably the most listened to person today. I hope you're cool with that MB.

Anonymous said...

decent point, palmer. but you do have to wonder how much of an impact the strike had on michael's story. i tend to think the producers had more in store for him, but had to scrap it to fit into the shortened season.

They can just have one of the many "undead" characters, maybe even "undead" Michael himself explain to Walt that he died a hero. If there was ever a character to be sick of, it is Locke, IMO. I am so over him and his gullibility as Ben plays him constantly. Will someone please explain the Sun/ Widmore scene to me as it could not have been more ambiguous? The more I think about it, the less I enjoyed this way over-hyped finale. I wish drugged out Jack would have grabbed Kate's hand as she slapped him, called her a tramp and rightfully taken his flesh and blood nephew away from her suddenly pompous ass and called Granny. I can't wait for "Chuck" to return in the fall. Light entertainment with a hot, likeable cast. If you haven't seen it, give it a try.

I can kind of understand what HP is saying, up until he starts with the racial stuff. The only reason that I can think why they would have brought him back just to kill him off so quickly is if they wanted to have Walt back next year without Mike around too. And I do think that MDK will be a regular next year, trying to get back to the island along with the other O6ers.

PalmerEldritch said...

i really hope that Walt's back next year. especially if he has crazy island super powers.

I just had an epifany. Darlton need to hire Jason Hunter of www.timelooptheory.com as a consultant, have him sit down with all the writers and fix what is in danger of becoming an unfixable mess. They can ask and answer all the right questions in 34 episodes and hopefully not leave us all with blue balls. Just a thought.

Hey Anonymous, Feel free to join in the conversation using your name. It's okay to be snippy and out about it. I do it all the time. :P

Besides the race crap, I totally agree with Harold. If it were me, I'd be all, "WTF was the point of that?" too. From a show that I've learned to expect emotional send offs and stories of redemption, Michael's "redemption" story arc this season for me was a bit stupid and pointless. So the island wouldn't let him kill himself because he was cosmically ordained to keep the freighter from blowing up an extra few minutes? Yeah, big whoop. To me, the only point of bringing him back would be if they wanted to give his character closure. And this crap was not that at all. I'm not saying he necessarily had to meet back up with Walt. But at least let him have some sort of emotional scene or instance where his sacrifice was appreciated. I dunno. I think I've come to expect much more with character deaths on this show. And yes, I agree with HP. What was the point of this really?

And as for Jack hate. It's totally warranted. I wouldn't say I hate him exactly. But he is very annoying. Extremely whiney, wants everything his way, plays favorites, doesn't always think situations out thoroughly, etc.

Oh yeah. And how awesome was watching Jack have to sit there and watch Kate and Sawyer make out before Sawyer jumped. Deal with it doc!

I've been thinking this for a while and I'm going to make my prediction now. Kate is meant to be with Sawyer. Forget all the stuff currently with Jack. For whatever reason when Kate's with him, they just seem to be right for each other. Kate can have 20 scenes with Jack and then just one with Sawyer, and the Sawyer scene instantly comes off as more of a connection. Whether Kate wants to believe it or not. The way I'm thinking it could play out is one of those "While you were off chasing the man you thought was the right one, the right one was there all along." Kinda like Ducky in Pretty in Pink, but in this case not a total dork. I can totally see Jack and Kate going through this whole off-island ordeal and pretty much in the end figuring out that it's just not right. And then when they eventually go back to the island, Kate sees Sawyer and realizes that he was the one she should've been with all along. To me all this time Kate has gravitated to Jack over Sawyer because Sawyer is too much like her. She always felt that Sawyer was just like what she wanted to get away from in her past. Jack represented the oposite of that. But as she goes along, she realizes that Jack isn't exactly Dr. McDreamy and Sawyer has slowly proven himself more and more. I dunno. Maybe I just see it that way because I like Sawyer much better than I do Jack. But I really do see much more chemistry between Kate and Sawyer.

That leads me to one other possibility. If my Kate is meant to be with Sawyer theory is entirely off base, I blame it on one thing then. Josh Holloway and Evangeline Lilly must just for whatever reason have that much better chemistry than Evey does with Matthew Fox. I was talking with our favoUrite Jackaholic, TDot Kimb, a while back and we got into quite the Sawyer-Jack debate. I related basically what I just said about why I feel that Kate would be better off with Sawyer. She wasn't having any of it as she sees things very different (views Jack as responsible and having his shit together, Sawyer as being a screw up ex-con). I think she looks at it from a much more logistical perspective, where as I view it purely on the emotional connection. Regardless of the reasons why, let's just say we don't agree. At all. But at the end of the argument, I did get her to admit that Kate's seens with Sawyer do come off much with much better chemistry. Which leads me to the one way I could be wrong that the producers mean for Kate to ultimately be with Sawyer. Acting. If I'm wrong and they don't intend for Kate and Sawyer to appear to have a better connection, it simply comes down to Lilly and Holloway having better on screen chemistry. Maybe that's the case. What do you guys think?

you know, things in the "Lost" world are in chaos.

1. The season finale was a bummer.
2. Jay has lost his fire ( discussed earlier in the week)
3. Kim and Aimee don't release enough podcasts.
4. Cliff and Stephanie (enough said)
5. The Black Rock and LostCast and Lost Mythos guys will probably LOVE the finale due to it's major emphasis on " island mythology" which needs a major overhaul.

But at least we still have Ben and Ralph. Please don't sugarcoat your review of the finale.

As somebody else already speculated, I too expect Walt to have a much larger role next season. I don't see the point of his scene with Hurley if that wasn't the case. And I like how they dealt with him looking nothing like the last time we saw him. "Dude you grew up quick". Ok, nice, we got that out of the way now. Walt, you're free to return. lol.

And I get a weird feeling that we haven't seen the last of John Locke. That is after the coffin scene. Ben told Jack that Locke needed to go back to the island too. And now that the show has gone totally donkey wheel sci-fi, no bounderies of what is possible exist. I really wouldn't be surprised if the island brought him back to life.

Jordan said...

For as much as the Locke in the Box reveal was kinda "ho hum", I will say that that scene up til that point was very well executed in terms of suspense. I don't know how many times I thought they were just about to make the reveal. I was definitely on the edge of my seat.

And nice job with the Jeremy BENtham name trying to trick people. And how awesomely typical was the scene where Walt says, "Why do you guys call him Jeremy Bentham, it's..." only to get cut off. At least I think it was Walt in that scene. Not entirely positive now.

Speaking of Bentham. We have another philosopher on our hands.

behind jordan's gruff exterior beats the heart of a skater?

also, i LOVE the term "donkey wheel scifi" for stuff that's way the fuck out there. we must all use this term now. good going, jordan.

robert, i've been reading the time loop theory and i've come to the conclusion that i prefer Darlton and the Donkey Wheel. Time Loop Theory is a tad Mirror Matter Moon Theory to me.

a time loop could totally figure into LOST but not that time loop. it strikes me as over-thinking. it also gives rise to this gem: "Apparently, a unique effect of time travel is that your womb will always age, however, your body won’t age"

yeah... how 'bout that, huh? :)

i'm big on The Island as Oz, Narnia, Wonderland nowadays. it's kind of a horrible cop-out since it's basically saying the answer to everything is "it's magic" but it works for me.

mb said...

Thanks for the Bentham link Jordan - I was trying to think of where I had heard the name (but apparently too lazy to check Wikipedia :P).

Ally - don't mind being listened to - it so rarely happens at home ;D (joking)

Re: Jate/Skate - I am a Jater, but I will say, that their relationship, such as it is, is almost always troubled b/c all of Jack's emotional baggage does not mix well with Kate's. And I know the two of them COULD be happy if they end up being able to figure out how to get past it, but most of the time (not all the time) when they are together, Jack doesn't give Kate enough credit and tends to see her as untrustworthy, a role which Kate, with her baggage, often plays right into. The reason I feel like they could be great are scenes like the "sewing up the wound" scene in the Pilot, and in Something Nice Back Home where she reassures Jack that he's a good father (forget of course for a moment that he isn't "meant" to raise Aaron) - in scenes like these they really show good emotional support for each other (Jack for Kate in the pilot and vice versa in SNBH). They CAN be good together, they just are most often NOT. But isn't that the entire Jate/Skate story - lol!

Oh - and I'm sorry, but those were the two most over-hyped kisses ever. I had a feeling it was marketing BS when Cuselof kept talking about it, so it wasn't a surprise, but I'm a bit surprised at how heavily they hyped "THE BEST KISS EVER!!!" don't get me wrong, both kisses were inside of super-emotional moments, but the kisses themselves? meh.

That said, I gotta disagree that the finale was a bummer. I don't think it was trying to do what last years was trying to do, and I think it was a great action/suspense story with some great visuals.

And Sawyer's "Kenny Rogers" name for Lapidus wasn't bad neither - lol.

PalmerEldritch said...

apparently, i missed the hype for these kisses.

there were two? kate and sawyer where sawyer says "find my baby momma and have mysterious phone conversations with her to piss off jack" and... which other kiss?

PalmerEldritch said...

and did the second kiss involve mud wrestling or dharma whipped topping?

mb said...

I just don't see all the sci-fi stuff as "magic". It seems like the writers are reading quantum physics books, PRESENTING some of the concepts with a mythology that sprinkles in several different world religions, and serving it up with mystery.

Jesus I sound like the frakkin' ABC promo dept. - lol.

But seriously - I think most of the concepts here come out of established, if esoteric and theoretical, science. Wormholes and Time Travel for example are not just fictional concepts. Scientists do actually discuss/theorize about them.

mb said...

and did the second kiss involve mud wrestling or dharma whipped topping?

Oh....what might have been, eh Palmer....(sigh)

The second kiss, I assumed, was Dez and Penny

Trevor McFur said...

I think that taking concepts that are just concepts right now and putting them as real-life things on a TV show is the very definition of science fiction. It might not be magic, but actively using concepts like time travel, wormholes, spirits, instant healing, etc, is pretty hard-core sci-fi. I don't really mind, although it does bother me a bit when they still insist that the show is in some way still plausible. It might be plausible if all of these concepts that they're taking turn out to be right, and are capable of being turned from concept into reality, but to be honest, you could make the same argument for an episode of Star Trek.

Trevor McFur said...

I liked the Kenny Rogers nickname too.

Indeed trevor - good point re: sci-fi. I guess my point is that there is a difference between sci-fi that uses concepts that are completely made up (like the transporter in Star Trek - which I have read physicists who cannot see how it would work, even theoretically) and something like a Gravitational Time Dilation in Lost, which is theoretically possible.

mb said...

Yeah Dre - that was a "Holy Shit" moment for me as well. It would be excellent if he returned at all!

Are there any Philly people on here? I just heard that Transformers 2 is having an open casting call for extras tomorrow and I'm thinking of going. They need college kids, which I technically am (grad school) but may look too old for Michael Bay's liking.

I thank Lost for making me realize I do like Sci-fi. I would have never given BSG, Firefly, Doctor Who and all half a chance if it weren't for Lost.

Jordan, when I think about the Jate/Skate debate, I think about the old saying- woman chooses a man who's just like her father. I for sure did. Jack is like her good step-dad. Sawyer is like her low-down real father. Who knows who she'll actually end up with. It seems to me it's over for her and Jack.

Robert, just to be 100% clear, i have never sugar-coated anything (with the exception of ben's singing). I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOST! no one asked me to do a podcast. i do the podcast because i LOVE LOVE talking about lost with Ben. We did it before the show and we will do it once the show is off the air. I have gone on record as not liking episodes. I am infamous for HATING Further Instructions. I think that episode is pure shit (unless my theory comes to fruition).

That being said: I really enjoyed the finale last night. Was it the best finale episode? No. I think that last year's was the best. "Looking Glass" didnt allow me to sleep all night.

We said on our Predictions that this episode wasn't going to top last year's, but how could it.

I was pleased with how it turned out. I am not saying that as sugar coating, i am just saying that as my personal tastes. I really love lost.

As for Jay. I know that he works his ass off to bring everyone his show. If jay has lost any thunder, it is due to the fact that he could use the vacation from the 200+ phonecalls he listens to a week. Those guys do A LOT of work for a show that is essentially a hobby. If he is excited about lost being done with, it is for the chance to catch his breath before the next season starts.

As for the other podcasts, i only listen to Kim and Aimee and the transmission. I love those shows, but dont listen to GS or the other shows. I just dont have the time.

Kim and Aimee will be back sooner than later, i can feel it and i know that we will all be there listening to their Jizz-Soaked antics!!

By the way...Jimmy is Back Tonight!! so get ready to party one last time with the Dharmalars before the big Comic Con Show!!!!

[ally] said...

Another thing that perked my ears up and now has me thinking is Charlotte maybe being born on the island? Some are speculating that she could be Ben's Annie - but I don't think the timeline works out does it? I think she's too young.

Trevor--I looked at the casting thing again. It says that anyone 18-70 can be cast, but they are especially interested in college students (since I think Shia's character is at Penn, or Princeton maybe).

It's at Bullie's bar down at the Spectrum, from 11-3. You can park for free if you say "Transformers casting" to the parking lot attendant. I am seriously thinking of going. I would love to get paid to stand in the background and act scared of robots.

Trevor McFur said...

18-70??? Wait, let me check ... hell yes, I'm in that range!

Hey you robots, get off my lawn! Dammit, I just watered right there!

Jordan said...

Trevor, You got to go dude.

I just thought of another reason to think that Jack is a dick. Remember back a couple episodes ago when Kate was making her private phone call that had something to do with Sawyer, and jack replied to her in a rather bitchy way, "Sawyer chose to stay!". Well we now know that the reason Sawyer chose to stay was because he wanted to save everybody on the chopper. Up to that point, he was pretty eager to leave. Most likely because of Kate or the big baddies trying to kill them. This from a guy who has in the past made remarks about not being sure if he wanted to leave. And yet Jack says that about the guy who pretty much allowed for him and Kate to get off the island?

PalmerEldritch said...

"palmer i think that's a great idea for trevor, he should go audition for that."

thanks! i mean, i'm pretty sure it was jordan's idea but i'll gladly accept your adulation (twss?).

i'm looking forward to the Dharmalars and Jimmy's segment (twss again).

new BSG tonight. and tomorrow(ish), i'll rewatch the LOST finale.

CARLTON: "We've got a better kiss in our finale than they have".

Forty three times, and each time I think "unless they've found an all-new way to film kisses, there's no way this can't disappoint". And thus is was. Good stunt double though. I found the throat stabbing much more impressive.

The combined epic of my work schedule and downloading agonies means that I finally got me caught up at nearly 2:30am early Saturday morning.

Have I gone to bed? Nay - I have come here and spent another 30+ minutes soaking up the Blogspot. Good stuff guys.

When our survivors get into the hexagonal craft - I found myself thinking of the cover story again. Eight survivors, two didn't make it... and for a while, I figured Des and Lapidus were done for. Glad to be proved wrong.

Also - are we to assume that "Jeremy Bentham", when back in the real world, is still able to walk?

Ralph - I think the Further Instructions "post island" theory is beginning to look a shade ropey now. It might be time to let it go and get with the hating of the episode.

And finally, if you can find a place in the podcast for that David Bedford tune I sent you via Twitter, it'd make my season.

Final word - favourite bad shot of the episode (apart from the weedier bits of CGI) - that hilarious composite of Sayid leaning out of the helicopter to look at the tank. They cut away from that pretty quick.

Good night!

Well.... good morning, really.

Seriously peeples. WHAT A AMAZING FINALY!!!! WHOAOAHWOWEEWAAAA!!!! Anybody who does'nt like that shit is retarded and mentally challegned. Lost is the shit and alwayz comes threw when the haters wanna hate. Say what Entertainment Weekly? Who saw John Locke being the man in the coffen?? Siriusly! I think that the Jin is alive and with Michael in the fariday boat!! Can you emagine?! How buzzed would be the mind with that attack?! Juliet and Sawyer are now the new hot island couple. Who saw that coming? What is their shipper name? Sawyiet? Juler? What about the donkey wheel?!!!! INSANEITY!!!! Just when you think your out, Lost pulls you back into. Do people think that the Island will move to Bangcock? Maybe it will and Bai Ling will come back?!!!! And Jacks tatto mysteries will finally make sense? The Dharmerlars are the best podcast in lost history! Ralph please put the podcast up ASAP!!!! THe only lost podcast worth listening to. Fratboys shatboys. Jay and Jack was good . But I agree with all here. Jack has bored of the show. Was nice wile it lasted. So does John Locke live? Or does he die? The coffen could be a trick or so. Does Hurley and Mr Eko play chess for real or pertend? If so, maybe Eko will return in the next series? I cant wait for Febuary 2009!!! Ben and the donkey wheel FTW!! The faster the Dharmaboys with Ralph and Benz the better! Cant wait to heer the amazign recaps of the amazing finaly!!!!

I think I need to explain myself a little so you understand more where I am coming from in my critique of the show. I am probably one of the older posters on this blog and could probably be most of you guys and gals father.

1. Never liked Star Trek. Way to cheesy for me.
2. Never seen an episode of BSG, Firefly and the like and don't plan to.
3. Came upon Lost in it's second season and watched the first season in about 3 days. It is just about the best season of television I have ever seen. The show has slowly slipped each year since.
4. I KNOW that Jay works his ass off and has a lot going on, but I think that the iTunes reviews show that the show has lost something recently.
5. Never thought that Ben and Ralph would ever sugarcoat anything. If you loved the episode, awesome for you.
6. I just would have rather seen the show take a different direction than it has, as is my right.
7. Lost is still, with all my complaints, far and away, the best drama on TV today.
8. Jack and Kate SHOULD end up together in the final scene of the series, sitting on a beach somewhere as partners for life. Call me a hopeless romantic.
9. It doesn't appear, at this moment, that Lost is first and foremost about the characters, as team Darlton have repeatedly said. That is probably why I loved season 1 so much when all the characters were developed so perfectly.
10. Sawyer still needs those shoulder implants.
