New Dharmalars - can't wait....but i'm gonna hafta cause my iPod is acting up. Ugh!

Right. Due to some horrible internet problems, I've just had to wait over 24 hours to watch the new episode... Not happy. But at least stupid sleeping patterns have come in useful.. for once. anyways....

I lessthanthree-ed this episode. Even though i knew i was all "this is the set-up episode" throughout. When jack went up to that woman, i was well "wtf, who is that bint?" obviously, it's his mother... you wouldn't really know seeing as she was only in half a scene two years ago. Parent issues aren't always related to just the father y'know. Let the mommas cause some strife sometimes!

I'm hated the scene when hurley went into his house, i thought i heard a gunshot and panicked that some naughty people had hurt his parents... i was still recovering from the fear after hurley ran, spryly might i add, from the camaro numbers.

I got well excited when Claire's momma (i must stop using this word, i'm not from the southern states, i'm from the north of england damnit!) revealed the biggie to Jack. I was "aww. it's claire's aunt"... but no. i was wronged. Sometimes this show does stuff like this to piss me off, i'm sure of it. While excited about the revelation, i was a bit annoyed... she was supposed to be brain dead, surely she'd still be in the hospital after a couple of years in a coma, recovery, brain cell loss, muscle damage from lack of use..? MEH.

Oh, i'm totally forgetting (now i'm a 14 year old californian girl) about Sawyer! He looked distraught when he saw Kate in the jungle... was it because he thought she'd have been off the island by now..? or was it because of his misplacing of claire..? HMM. I'd say it's a bit of both.

Regarding the whole mound of C4, i well thought that Sun was going to lock Michael, Jin and Desmond in with all the explosives... but maybe that was just me... I'm also loving the new Sun. "yo dad, i just bought your company biatch"... would have been much funnier, if not more believable.

I was a bit pissed at some of the montages of the 815ers heading to the freighter, something tells me that the freighter is not the place to be.. I bet that Jin tells sun to go back to the island with Aaron and stay with Jack and suchlike... as when Daniel's done ferrying the redshirts they'll be the only ones left... ready for rescue.

I LOVED the scene with Alpert.. surely this is the first time that anyone else bar the others and Locke have seen him in action... he had very much the same attitude as he did in the last episode, forceful, sortof passive aggressive?

Argh. Stupid Keamy. I am in two minds about him, on one hand, he's an awesome villain unlike the dick dastardly of Ryan/Pickett, but on the other, he's such a dick. I can't see him lasting after finalé.. which is good stuff.

Also. stupid cliffhanger, couldn't they have made a better one for the two week wait than that?!

Anyone else have the feeling that you need a cigarette after each episode? After watching it, it gives me the post-coital yearning for nicotine...(TMI?).. as if i need to calm down or something..

Argh. I shouldn't watch Lost at 7am. I'll never sleep.........

Fuck it, i'm watching it again. :)

Herlihy: ...Claire's momma (i must stop using this word, i'm not from the southern states, i'm from the north of england damnit!)

What would you normally say? My money's on "mam".

Hello, all. Bit late to really join the Indiana Jones chat to any degree, but there's one thing about the sequel concept that has bothered me and maybe folks better versed in the lore can help:

In "The Last Crusade", Indy drinks from the Holy Grail, much like the 2000 year old knight did. Meaning that if Indy looks twenty years older, then the film should be set in about 2310.

Or am I wrong? Did the knight continue to drink from it and thus prolong his life? Is drinking from it once good for adding just a couple of days onto your life?

Shame, as super duper future Indy has an appeal. Especially if he has some kind of Electro-Whip.

scrdmnkydst said...

Actually... I don't say "mam", I say "mum" or if i'm annoyed, "mother". But then again, I speak quite posh compared to the yokels of my town. I'm the person who's always getting grief for looking down on everyone just because i enunciate properly.

"aya guna go t'shop, bah sum spice fo t'babbie, mebee sum watter, tek 'em t'pichures an si' in screen foteen while yer favver werks dahn in t'mine"

God i hate being from yorkshire.

Alirio, I had the same problem! I thought I was doing something wrong... but it must be the website I guess. I emailed Sam and he didn't think there was a problem, but maybe if two canadians email him he'll look into it.

PalmerEldritch said...

chris, i had thought that Indy would have needed to STAY in the Temple/Fort/Thing to live forever. i guess we'll all have to rewatch all three movies to be sure.

chris and the UK funky bunch, did you guys get that Young Indy show? one episode's flashback is bookended by "Modern Day Indy" who is about 90 years old, has an eyepatch, and a tremendous scar over the eyepatched side of the face. so, if that's canon then maybe the cup of a carpenter gave him a tad bit of longevity? he's 64 in the 1950s and makes it to the early 1990s.

scrdmnkydst said...

Stephanie - Lessthanthree, <3. It's internet talk for love because when you put them together, it looks like a heart. I am well down with yoof culture.

Also, I am currently thinking that we might have possibly had Young Indiana Jones on the BBC, alas i never watched it... But i've never watched any of the films. Or Star Wars. Or Mary Poppins. Or Sound Of Music. People look at me in shock when i tell them that.... :/

Andrew, if Lee becomes president after Roslin dies I will not like it. Why is it Roslin's business who Tori get's down on her knees for? Why would the marines let Natalie get close to Herra when she could snap her neck super quick?

andrew. said...

- Stephanie: if you want to get a gun to a prisoner just strap it to a small child or a cute kitten. Apparently all of the marines are big softies. Of course Natalie could just engage the cylon pimp slap so she didn't really need a weapon.

Trevor McFur said...

Bad times at the McFur household. My laptop is in full, 100% meltdown mode, and I just realized that it's so fucked up that it can't even recognize my external hard drive. And it's been a loooong time since I've done a full backup. And the dude at tech support said, quote, "I'll be honest, no one here knows what the hell is wrong with it." Not good times at all.

Just to follow-up on some of the Charlotte-hatin', here's a picture of the actress all gussied up that I think settles the 'hot or not' debate.

Great, amazing, BSG last night, finally. Just when I'm feeling like the show's completely lost it, they come up with one like that. Using Gaeta's delirious singing and mixing it up with the usual score was just brilliant, and haunting. Wow.

Back to the bad times.

memphish said...

Good luck with the laptop McFurs. I even you not.

I saw the ant on Dan's page. I just watched the movie Pi. Maybe the ant on Dan's page is a shout out to that.

Here's the crazy LOST conspiracy of the day. This screencap from the Pilot shows a black manmade object next to Jack when he first wakes up in the jungle that some are saying is the same as Ben's Beat Em Up Stick. To me it looks larger but similar. Coincidence? Fate? Just a prop?

Holli

Stephanie said...

I'd say the object next to Jack would be too thick to be a asp baton. But what do I know?

Trevor McFur said...

Whew, even though the external hard drive isn't recofgnized, the CD/DVD burner is. So I can back things up that way, it's just gonna take a lot longer.

The panic meter's coming down from a 9, settling in around 5. The grumpiness meter is down to about a 3.

Chris JC said...

We did get Young Indiana Jones, but I didn't see many of them.

Indy's future sounds a bit like that of Big Boss from the Metal Gear series.

Is there nothing on worth watching next week? Even Doctor Who over here is taking a week off for the Eurovision Song Contest - which you guys really should look into online if you've never heard of it.

This is double hard as the next one due is the Stephen Moffatt two-parter.

Chris JC said...

That object is not a baton. I have wielded the genuine article when I worked for a security/medical firm and they are very much not that thick otherwise they would be useless for their specified purpose.

Also, would anyone be able to confirm - does Ben's one come out of the side like a switchblade? It looked like it during one of the shots but I've only ever encountered ones where the stick deploys straight out of the end during a swing.

Also, they are bastards to pack away again. Best thing to do is whack 'em against something hard to loosen them up again.

scrdmnkydst said...

I don't see why they can't just show Doctor who next week anyways. Eurovision always starts at 8pm, so they could show it before that... i daresay that Eurovision would benefit from a bit of a lead in...

Chris JC said...

They took a break for it last year (but not the years before, although I can't remember if they coincided) and actually my memory was that just that week off in the middle of the run made it feel much longer and more epic. Although it helped that they showed an astonishingly good "rest of season" trailer at the end of the episode before the break, but not this time.

It also didn't hurt that nearly all of the episodes after it came back were largely superb, or at least interesting.

scrdmnkydst said...

It makes me sad to think that there might not be an episode as good as Blink.

I'm currently doing my notes for my first commissioned article... It's Seether's third album... I've never heard of them, but apparently, they're popular over the pond... i quite likes it...

Ooh, i'm so happy.

[ally] said...

Chris JC said...

I know of Seether. I think the wife may even have some.

Good for ye, Hirls.

Is it Drowned in Sound?

Jimmy said...

Here's the deal:

Have been away this week, an associate dropped dead suddenly at 44 and I have been involved with that all week! I then took off on Friday to Colorado for a break...lots of big rocks!! Just in today and sitting at the office. Haven't even been home for the last 5 days.

My 1st reaction to the episode was that it sucked. My least favorite of the entire season. I thought the music was absolutely abysmal!

That all said. I will re look at it tonight. I have only just got back, so maybe less tired and sad eyes might make it better. I will see. I have no real answer to why this episode didn't work for me till I see it again and reevaluate it all. My thoughts might change?

My highlight was seeing the gorgeous Michelle Forbes (Admiral Cain). Before I get a torrent of abuse (and Bai Ling flack) remember that I'm an aging rocker and that she is "perfect" for me :)

scrdmnkydst said...

Thanks! :):):)

Yeah, the Seether... I like the first half of the album, but it's overlong and repetitive. It got me a bit down in the dumps towards the end... eek. I needed some happy music after it, so now i'm listening to the Buffy Musical episode soundtrack. haha.

Alas, it's not Drowned In Sound, I bloody wish. It's this outfit called The Music Magazine, they're not that big, but it commissions me stuff that i wouldn't have even thought of listening to, nevermind review, which is well good. I need more versatility.

Also, i've been speaking to this music critic insider who seems to think that some of my stuff is good and i have an "impressive writing style"! YAYS FOR ME.

I've also got an album from a Scottish folk band called "Dumb Instrument" and the new single from Hercules And Love Affair (which has the singer from the mercury award winners Antony and the Johnsons) to review. I'm so excited. This will help me fill out my portfolio muchly!

Happy non-bday Steph! I respect your wishes to not have on. lol.

Palmer, you can check out Crush fighting MMA at the end of this month. Gina is fighting on CBS's first MMA event. I think it's May 31st. Not sure though. I've seen a few of her fights. I was a big fan long before AG. She is as much of a bad ass as she is hot. She fights about 20-30 lbs lighter than when she is on AG, so she looks a bit diff. But just as foxy.

Zen sorta reminded me of Rufio from Hook. It was funny. I was watching with a friend and every time they hinted at him, showing him do karate in the shadows, we were trying to guess what his stereotypical Asian gladiator name would be. And I totally guessed Zen. Much better than my other ideas, Wang and Chopstix.

Zen and Rocket have to be the two littest glads ever. I'm thinking they are going to specialize in the wall and skytrack (which sucks imo).

Earthquake is 10 times better over water. Hell, put everything over water. The wetter, the better.

For Palmer, Trevor, and any other GTA4 goons out there. So the other night I was taking some chick on a date to the bowling alley. We get there and for whatever reason, the option to play a game doesn't come up. I walk up to the counter over and over trying to get it to come up. And out of nowhere the chick, Kate I think, jumps behind the counter next to the dude working at the place and just sits there. Nothing I could do would get her to leave. She just stayed there. Then I went outside and got ran over by a truck and died. lol.

So Ghostwatch lives, eh? Just in an alternate Spanish universe. Interesting.

t-dot kim said...

STEPH! Happy Birthday ;)

Trevor McFur said...

Not every date is always an option. If there's not one of those little bars outside, then it's not a date that you can do. I've not noticed it with the bowling alley, but I have with some restaurants, the cabaret, and the comedy club. Also, Carmen's the only one who lets me take her to the strip club (unfortunately, I can't buy her a lap dance).

memphish said...

Skytrack didn't work for me. It needs some tweaking. In fact, I'd rather see the contestants chase the Gladiators. The other problem with Skytrack was filming it. I could never figure out how far along they were on the track. Was the chick close to finishing or not? Beats me.

Holli

PalmerEldritch said...

can this be true?!!!!!

fantastic doctor who news!

t-dot kim said...

I also didn't like Skytrack that much--I think with that event and with Vertigo, they need to give the contestants even more of a head start, or have them compete against each other. (But that defeates the purpose of the Gladiators). Zen's strategy of going under the contestant was pretty sweet. It's easier to push yourself off the wall than pull someone off the wall.

Rocket Ball is STILL my new favourite.

i think Vertigo might be OK once people realize how to do it. they just need to get halfway there before the Gladiator finishes to get 5 pts.

Skytrack doesn't come off good on television. I really do not like it. I wasn't a fan of it on the old AG either.

I hear you on dealing with the age thing - but I must wish a fellow 80s child a Happy Birthday - its a proud heritage I tell you ;)

Palmer - great Who news indeed! I had been hearing Moffatt was to be the successor, and now it's official. I had also heard Robert Carlyle might be the next guy - but I have no idea.

and holy CRAP - HE'S writing TinTin. My interest in that project just went up about a gagillion % :)

Jimmy - very sorry for the loss. Glad you stopped by here and looking forward to your music review when it comes

Coming in wayyyyyy late on this thread (oh, and it's been a couple of months that I've even plopped into the blogspot too) but that screencap Memphish put up with the mystery person behind Admiral Cain has me bogglin' the mind. It's gotta be Ben, yes? Too easy of a guess? How did I not see that when I rewatched the episode?
Anyhow, hope everyone has enjoyed this season as much as I have. Can't wait for the f-finale.

My apologies Alirio. I was throw off by the whole "de Ghostwatch" deal.

As for your question, I got an easy one for ya. Cyprus. While half of my family is of Greek heritage. Many of them resided in Cyprus, which itself has Greek roots. The Greek Cypriots had half the island stolen from them by Turkey about 30 years ago. My grandfather actually lost land to them and had to flea south. To this day it remains the only split nation in the world, I think. The border was just opened for crossing for the first time a few years back. The Turkish Cypriots aren't really recognized by anybody officially. Back when Cyprus joined the EU a few years back, Kofi Anan wanted to unify the country as one. The Turks were all for it because they only stood to gain. But the Greeks didn't want any of it. As they felt it would be ignoring their being f'd over and letting the damn dirty Turks off the hook.

I hate acid reflux.

Alirio said...

I used to have a lot of acid reflux and was majorly lactose intolerant for years.

It almost all went away when I lost 90 lbs.

Who knew?

Thanks guys for the birthday wishes. I assume all this talk is about Gladiators. I had a good day; shopping, out for Mexican therefore I didn't have to cook, and now for chocolate chocolate chocolate cake. And ice cream. And MarioKart.

Sounds like the best non-birthday ever! That cake sounds dangerously delicious. Make sure you eat a piece for us.

If you aren't going to own up to your name calling Anonymous, take it to a different blog.

Politics, ugh.

I would like to think that this blog is above nonsense like that.

So Alirio. You're saying that all I need to do is lose 90 lbs? I don't know exactly how attractive I would be at weighing in at 88 lbs. But if it cures my acid reflux...

Yay for American Idol finally ending. This season was absolute garbage. I hope David Archuletta is placed back in his cage when it's all over with.

Stephanie said...

I can't believe Jordan and I are Idol watchers. I voted for Cook. I'm surprised I got through. I bored with it all and am ready for it to be over with.

The Good news:

Some guy I went to high school with, and who's the friend of a friend, has a new job as a host of a show on Animal Planet.

The Bad news:

The first episode I see, he anally violates a crocodile to check for a penis.

The AWESOME news:

He grew long hair and a beard and looks a lot like Ben from the Dharmalars!

The Wolf from the old school UK Gladiators was so much better than your Wolf...

PalmerEldritch said...

them there's fightin' words 'round these parts.

i dunno, herlihy, to be "much better" than our camptastic Wolf, you're Wolf must have been pretty f'n great. as i have never watched "Gladiators," i can't say whether or not your Wolf is the man. but our Wolf is pretty damned hilarious.
