Saw Baby Mama last night instead of Iron Man. Seriously considering going back today to see the movie I wanted to see.

Busy day today -- free comics and Iron Man! And in between, Dharmalars.

Iron Man is probably my favorite movie based on a comic book.

Free Comic Book Day rocks! In addition to the free books, we got an Iron Man pin, a Speed Racer kid activity book, an extra Spiderman book, a Batman key chain and an Iron Man poster for Kiddo's room. Yeah comic book stores!

Jellyman: your karaoke rocked solid! I was running and singing along! Crazy!
Also: what will the implications be of Aaron being "raised by another"?

I liked the episode, though the previous one was more up my alley. Pantless Kate did some nice acting though :)

How much eps left? Accidentally saw the title of next episode, and the title only allready looks especially promising! Cannot wait at all.

HEY WESH! Good to see ya!

Good question re: Aaron - the only thing I remember the psychic from season 1 saying to Claire is that the baby would need Claire's kindness or good energy or something to rely on b/c he was special in some way. Someone please correct my paraphrasing (my apologies for being too lazy to look the info up. :))

Just back from Iron Man.
1)Wait for the credits.
2)I have an overwhelming desire to go out and buy an Audi.
3)Damn it! I guess I have to see The Incredible Hulk afterall.

mb said...

Can't wait to see it Steph!

Just posted 5 more items over at the SPLOG including a Q&A with Henry Ian Cusick and fans on the Washington Post from April 25th (some mild spoilers of course - so careful!)

Wesh said...

Nice to see you too mb ^__- Hope you're doing great!
I'm curious to both those movies too, Steph. Might go check them out soon too. (Hasn't there allready been a Hulk movie not too long ago? was another remake necessairy? Did watch the trailer though, and it looked promising. Love that Edward Norton fella.)

RE: Aaron
Yeah, I'm thinking there'll be repercussions too (unless Kate's Aaron is not Claire's?).
Here's an exerpt from the transcript of "Raised By Another":
********************************
RICHARD MALKIN: I can tell you... this is important.

CLAIRE: (nods) Okay.

RICHARD MALKIN: It is crucial that you yourself raise this child.

CLAIRE: You mean with Thomas? Is he --

RICHARD MALKIN: (interrupts) The father of the child will play no part in its
life, nor yours.

CLAIRE: So, what exactly are you saying?

RICHARD MALKIN: This child parented by anyone else, anyone other than you ...
danger surrounds this baby.

CLAIRE: Danger?

RICHARD MALKIN: Your nature, your spirit, your goodness must be an influence in
the development of this child.

CLAIRE: Look, if Thomas and I don't, you know, get back together, I'm putting
this baby up for adoption. (He sighs.) I just wanted to find out what would
give the baby the happiest life.

RICHARD MALKIN: (firmly) There is no happy life. Not for this child, not
without you.

CLAIRE: I don't --

RICHARD MALKIN: There can't be another. You mustn't allow another to raise
your baby.

CLAIRE: Okay. Great. (She stands up and grabs her jacket.) Thanks for taking
my two hundred dollars.

(He stands up, grabs the money and shoves it toward her.)

RICHARD MALKIN: No, no, no. Look, take it. Miss Littleton, I am begging you
just to consider --

CLAIRE: (shouts) I can't raise this child by myself.

RICHARD MALKIN: (shouts) You have to listen to me!

CLAIRE: Okay, thanks for your time and my money back!

(Claire rushes toward the door.)

RICHARD MALKIN: Miss Littleton, please! The baby needs your protection!

(Near the door, Claire stops and looks back at him. She turns and leaves.)

RICHARD MALKIN: (shouts) Miss Littleton! Please!

(The door shuts behind her.)
********************************

(sorry for the long post)

Stephanie said...

Wesh, Ang Lee's Hulk was a huge flop. When you see Iron Man, you'll see why we have to act like Hulk was never made.

mb said...

Thanks for the transcript Wesh!

I forgot to answer your other question of how many more episodes - there are 4 more and 3 of them are the finale - the first part airs May 15th, and then we wait 2 weeks until the 29th to catch parts 2-3 (aired as a 2 hour block I'm assuming).

memphish said...

Reading that transcript (thanks Wesh) makes me think that all of the O6's problems are linked to taking Aaron off the Island.

Pure speculation here, but I think Sawyer is going to get Aaron back to the beach and rescue for the O6 is going to come before Claire can be found and reunited with Aaron. Jack (making his usual logical, but dead wrong decision) will decide that they must take Aaron off the Island. This is the ultimate cause of the O6 problems because DANGER surrounds this baby. There is no happy life for Aaron (and by extension the rest of the O6) if he's raised by anyone but Claire.

I'm also partial to this notion because I really, really, really want Sawyer, Jin, Claire, Bernard, Rose, the old guy who is always in the background, etc. to still be alive on the Island.

Leaving for Iron Man in 10 minutes.

nice podcast, dharmalars. i'm not sure what's up with that guy calling your frat boys. are you sure he didnt mean "Sorority Boys"?

/never seen it
//prolly never will

Trevor McFur said...

I believe really strongly that the rest of the 815ers, outside of the O6, are alive and on the island, if for no other reason that I can't imagine that they'd have a wipeout of so many major characters at once. I read that Jack/Kate (I refuse to type 'Jate' -- dammit!) scene as saying that Sawyer is alive and chose to stay on the island. Don't forget Abadon, either, asking Hurley "Are they alive?" We can extrapolate that Abadon works for Widmore, so somehow the O6 get off the island without Widmore knowing exactly what happened. I also like the theory that they get off with Aaron before Claire is found ... it's a pretty reasonable explanation as to why Aaron is off the island that allows Claire to live. I also think that we still have to see a scene with Claire getting onto a helicopter to fulfill Dez's vision ... who says that it has to happen now, maybe it doesn't happen until after the O6 return (btw, I'll be very disappointed in Darlton if that scene doesn't happen in some shape or form).

RE: Stephanie and the Hulk..

Because of Ang Lee's flop with Hulk, The new Hulk film, The Incredible Hulk is a reboot of the franchise... that's why... It would have made a bit more sense if TIH was released first and Iron Man was released in a couple of months time in TIH's place.

Sorry... i seem to have forgotten that movie distributors don't really have any common sense.... oh well.

PalmerEldritch said...

herlihy, i saw Iron Man this afternoon and i think Iron Man first and The Incredible Hulk second makes sense.

Iron Man out in the UK? go see it. :)

mb said...

I'll climb onboard the bandwagon and heartily agree with you Holli - I'm positive that we just saw why Kate has Aaron (i.e. Claire's disappearance - and of course, this is not based on any spoilers). And I imagine that Sawyer will stay either b/c he chooses to look for Claire - he'll probably be off searching when the O6 leave, but they could have a scene with Sawyer looking into Kate's eyes and making the choice to stay. We'll see.

What I don't understand is why Christian Sheppard - IF that 'ghost' is indeed him - would lead Claire away from Aaron and most likely rescue so that she can continue to care for Aaron? Perhaps the ghost is something else masquerading as Christian and whatever it is doesn't want Claire raising Aaron? Seems like an interesting twist.

mb said...

part of that came out wrong - I meant: "...so that Claire is UNABLE to care for Aaron (and someone else has to take him)"

Rrb said...

So my Father just finished watching through the looking glass. Didn't catch the fact that it was a F.F., didn't know for sure if it was Kate at the end. And thought the person she had to get back to was JACOB?????(Thats a guess I never heard).

Anonymous said...

Hey Wesh, my man! Glad to see you're still knocking about.
Strangely - that Jack being an other question? - i immediately thought that has to be linked - perhaps Jack has crossed to the Others' side already, hence why he has to go 'back' (in time or just to the island, either way works).

Anonymous said...

...and MB - glad to hear you heckling all the way from Portland, don't ever stop.

Chris JC said...

It's all gone a bit quiet.

What about that show LOST, huh?

Does Claire know Shepherd by look? I recall she met him, but only a few times.

Failing that, is it likely that she'd refer to him as "dad", or is that just for us?

Wesh said...

Hmm, yeah, but like you said, she did see him once or twice and I gather that'd be quite an important milestone in her life. So I think she'd remember his face.

Another option is: we'll get a Claire episode and discover they started to meet regularly after we last seen them.

And running ahead of ourselves: what do you guys think the storyline will be of the people that stay on the island? Will the struggle with the freighties carry on to other seasons? Or will the story be carried by some other major plotline? I hope the latter.
I hope the freighties will be done and dealt with this season.

And I wont say freighties again for a month :)

Stephanie said...

I'm waiting for Holli's review of Iron Man.

memphish said...

Wait no longer Steph. I enjoyed it. There was a bit of over-emphasis on the construction phase, but there was enough humor in it to make it enjoyable. I did sneak a look at my watch once or twice though. I like how they handled Pepper Pots. Overall I really liked it. The story could have been a bit smoother, but hey, it's comic book fare.

As for the Claire and dad thing, in Par Avion Claire told Christian she didn't even want to know his name, so all she could call him was dad. Still you think given all the time he's paid to keep her mom alive she might know his name. She's pretty young though and I could see it being the case that she's held her ground that this far that she doesn't want to know his name. If she'd had a few more years in Oz, she would have looked.

Final thing, we didn't get a Hulk preview though I saw it when I saw Sarah Marshall and it didn't really do it for me. But we did see a Dark Knight trailer and it looked really good even though I'm not a Maggie Gyllenhall (sp?) fan.

Maggie Gyllenhall plays Rachel Dawes previously portrayed by Katie Holmes. I believe Holmes wasn't offered the role again in the sequel because of the poor reviews. Maybe she didn't reprise her role because Tom wouldn't let her. Who knows?
I'm embarrassed to say I didn't have to google Gyllenhaal.

Replacing Katie Holmes is a good thing. She was the ONLY thing from the first movie that I didn't like. Let's just leave it at she isn't a very good actress.

PalmerEldritch said...

indeed. but replacing her with Maggie Ghyllenernadjasldasdahall (sp?) leaves me disappointed. not a fan of either of them. but maybe Maggie is a good actress?

She's great compared to Katie Holmes.

Maggie Gyllenhaal will always remind me that her brother had sexytime with Heath Ledger.

Also.. in other news, I was given an incredibly bad haircut today. I'm not impressed. But, on the upside, our team did win the pub quiz! we won... £2... each! Isn't that like worth the same as a house in the US? ChOL. I jest of course...

It sucks! I'm all caught up and now I have to wait for a WHOLE week. I miss the 2 or 3 eps. in a row. Admiral Cain's a Bitch thats how I felt.
So who do you thinks a Cylon? I can't remember my thoughts from then maybe you can jog my memorie?

Chris JC said...

I welcome Gyllenhaal over Holmes in acting terms, if not in looks. Katie's got a couple of things going for her.

I found it a bit silly that she's as assistant DA or something like that. It's a bit like playing one of the Phoenix Wright games and finding that none of the terrifying, highly regarded prosecuting attorneys you go up against are over the age of 21.

She's also responsible for one of the biggest unintentionally funny moments in Batman Begins:

Rachel Dawes takes a phone call during which she learns that Falcone has been referred to Arkham Asylum by Doctor Crane and has been placed on suicide watch, and she was told this in the same length of time it might take you to say "Hello, Falcone has..."

I thought it was funny, anyway.

Chris JC said...

I didn't realise Herlihy was in the Delays - good work, fella. Nicely pimped.

Me? I'm listening to Rhinestone Cowboy by Glen Campbell. Is it better than Wichita Lineman? Probably not, but it's a little more upbeat.

Iron Man - go for RDJ, but save your biggest grins for Jeff Bridges, who is superb.

Nice War Machine tease, too.

I'm still on season 1 of BSG. They seem to have just introduced God to the series.

andrew. said...

- that "some new Frank Miller movie" is The Spirit based on the beautiful noir gumshoe comic by Will Eisner. Will Eisner was one of the best draftsmen ever to draw funnybooks and he's often credited with making the 1st ever graphic novel. I'm kind of annoyed that Frank Miller is bringing The Spirit to the big screen. The Spirit doesn't need to be a movie. The book was as much about the medium of comics, and the layout of a page, as it was an exageration of Hollywood gangster films.

- Reaper apparently got picked up for a 2nd season. I'm glad because I never bothered to delete it off of my DVR list and the show got a lot better over the last 4 or 5 episodes as it finally delved into the bigger story. I was watching it in the background and as the Monster-Of-The-Week became less and less important I paid more and more attention.

- I'm fairing much better in the Bigger Dance than I did in the basketball brackets. I'm still in it anyway. Jessica Biel trouncing Anna Kournikova really messed me up though.

- I'm still excited for BSG every week but it sure feels like they're dragging their feet this season. Even as crazy stuff happens, it seems like they could wrap everything up in one episode whenever they feel like it.

- Isabella Rossellinni is kind of weird. Boo-bees?

memphish said...

Interesting about Reaper. I gave up on it after the strike in large part because I had no idea when it was on. Maybe I'll pick it back up again over the summer.

I've already got the DVR set for American Gladiators return next Monday. Kiddo can hardly wait.

The Spirit has been turned into Sin City. ugh. i like some of Frank Miller's work but i don't like it NEARLY as much as Frank Miller likes it.

The Incredible Hulk's new trailer makes the movie look pretty good. not Iron Man good but still a lot better than i was expecting.

the new The Dark Knight trailer left me a little underwhelmed for some reason. maybe cuz it was so bright out in Gotham? dunno. i'm sure the movie will be badass but that trailer was a little ho-hum for me. maybe i was just too stoked for Iron Man.

hers is a commercial that i can't find on youtube (sorry, andrew and tim) wherein the family sits down to crispified fowl parts and the teenage son's dinner guest is very polite, gets told by Cindy not to be so formal, at which point the lad elatedly calls her by her first name, and gets shot down by MILFy Cindy. then the whole family laughs at the kid.

I am still getting used to Frank Miller's "Will Eisner's The Spirit".
I had lunch with my friend Jonathan yesterday and that lucky bastard has already seen the Hulk and gave a very favorable review. He said it was a pure action movie, with the hulk appearing within the first 10 minutes. You may also want to wait through the credits on that one.
he said that he also gets to visit the set of Crank 2, which prompted him to ask me if i was pissed. i just told him that i was jealous.

I am fired up for EVERY comic book movie that is coming out, except for Wanted. I hear that it is not like the book (whatever). But it is from the director of Night/Day Watch, so i may be fired up closer to it's release.

Really excited about Speed and Indy. Should shape up to either be a really awesome summer (can someone say 1989 all over again) or it could be a real dissapointment (every year since).

Jelly, I wish I weren't home alone.

I've been searching for the Cindy the MILF KFC commercial and can only find disturbing images of chickens.
On the topic of MILFs, Conan talked about a lady in Oregon or Washington whose last name is MILF and she's getting very upset about how her names being thrown around.

Stephanie said...

I don't know about Speed. It kinda looks like fluff. But I'll see it regardless.

PalmerEldritch said...

ralph, what the heck is jonathan's day job? just his podcast stuff? and when should i resubscribe to it so i can get the OFFICIAL allred interview?

PalmerEldritch said...

herlihy, that pork video is fantastic. and slightly hypnotic.

Chris JC said...

Basically I posted all that as it's a fairly new and seemingly American KFC ad, and even though the woman in it doesn't look like her I'd already heard that she did look different in it, so I thought it was worth asking.

So either they are now doing KFC adverts that LOOK American but releasing them everywhere but America, or you'll end up seeing that one later.

"Go, Cyclon Racer, Go!"
(spot the MST3K without Googling it. First one I ever saw, btw).

Stephanie said...

Hey! I got a Lost question for ya.

Claire said,"I'm fine now that I'm not seeing things." Then Miles asked what kind of things.

Did she actually see things like her father or was that line just thrown in to show Miles interest in Claire?

Chris JC said...

I figured that were going to tie that in to the "Charlie..?" line from the week before.

memphish said...

Steph, Doc Jensen at EW reported there was a deleted scene from The Shape of Things To Come where Claire had some sort of vision. It could also be related to her saying "Charlie" when Sawyer digs her out of the rubble. Maybe she saw a vision of Charlie. Or she could just be seeing double because of the bonk on her noggin.

Jonathan is currently editing a Pilot for a TV show that he wrote directed and produced. I saw his studio yesterday and it seemed pretty cool. He also does some writing on the side for video games.

The Allred interview (transcribed by ben) will be showing up on Geekscape.net i put up the edited audio
HERE
It is pretty much the same as it was before. I cut out all of the pauses. I may put it up durning Hiatus. We'll see. i am not terribly proud of it.

PalmerEldritch said...

steph, i think it was thrown in there to pre-establish that she was seeing things and to retroactively have a consequence for having your house explode upside your head.

chris, don't worry. i was just having fun with you with my short reply. the commercial you describe does sound familiar but i'm not 100% sure i've seen it.

by the way, chris and steph, i've been enjoying your film podcast. so much so that i might venture over to your blogspot thing later today to say hello!

Ralph- said...

OH SHIT.

i just noticed that the interview went up today on Geekscape.net

do you mean THIS INTERVIEW????

Horny guys should avoid Kimberley Joseph's website as they may mistake the main link for some kind of irresistible offer.

andrew. said...

- I figured Claire was talking about All-Out-Smoke-Monster-Attack!!!! If I came to after being unconscious and saw THAT i'd appologize for being insane too.

- I still haven't seen the Finger-Licking-Good Cindy (sorry) commercial. I think I may have seen an editted down version that sort of fits the description but they never showed her!

- Speed Racer looks utterly dumb but the visuals look insane.

Hey Gang, i am afraid to go to the Splog, but was curious who's episode of LOST it was this week. I know that it is called "Cabin Fever" so would assume it would be a Locke Ben or Hurley episode. But we have already had a Hurley and Ben storyline already in this short season. Is it going to be a Locke episode? if so, will it be related to Eddie from Further Instructions? dont answer that last part.

Is is a Locke Episode? or maybe a Claire (with cabin dweller Christian)?

Chris JC said...

I'll email you, Ralph.

- Cindy doesn't have cankles. She has super-developed achilies tendons which make her as agile as a jungle cat. also, she sweats ambrosia.

- i'm going to guess a Locke centric episode since Hurly & Ben already got theirs. I'm also going to guess that it will be non-standard flashes, like head-paste visions or Jacob-mindmeld.

- shit. i just realized that i'm not going to be able to watch Lost in broadcast because of a previous engagement. damn you real life! damn you!!!

Chris JC said...

Done, now we can avoid potential spoils.

What happened to my last post? Anyway...

This is the greatest podcast ever recorded.

Except for Dharmalars, TLI, and my own of course.

Chris JC said...

Another convert for The Bugle - home of the audio cryptic crossword.

I somehow lucked into it on the first week, I can't even remember how I found it.

Long-term TLI listeners may recall that on Ghostwatch's first call to the show, Aimee stated that I sounded like "the British correspondent from The Daily Show". That would be John Oliver, Bugle co-host.

I don't really sound much like him.

Nice Arex avatar, by the way, James "Tiberius" Kirk.

PalmerEldritch said...

thanks, chris. it's actually from being a total jerk and making fun of Maggie Ghyllenhaal but it doubles nicely as an obscure nerd reference.

if only i could find a picture of GIANT SPOCK!!!!!!!!

why in the hell was there a giant spock? i remember he wasn't the actual Spock. but he sure was spock. and a giant.

Chris JC said...

Just not trying hard enough, Palmer.

SPOCK!

PalmerEldritch said...

i'll assume you had that laying around your hard drive for instances just like this one.

maybe on an external hard drive in a glass case labeled "In Case of 'Star Trek: The Animated Series' Emergency."

i also remember Spock's pet sabretooth tiger thing from when he was a boy.

ah ha! I-Chaya.

it's like we're having a nerd version of a pissing contest!

Steph, prepare to be jealous.

Jamie "I'm not gay" Bamber to appear at this weekend's Emerald City Comicon. Along with such mega stars as Wil Wheaton, the kid who played young Boba Fett in Episode II, and "Fat Momma" from Who Wants to be a Superhero!

Jordan, I am even more jealous about this.

I have a Lost question for ya today. As Rose pointed out, something has changed with the island. Why is the island now allowing people to become sick. I was thinking Jack simply wasn't special enough to deserve the healing powers. Is that the case or did Locke or Ben to something Jacob didn't approve of?

Stephanie said...

Did we get Sawyer's usual "Son of a bitch" in Something Nice Back Home? I don't recall.

PalmerEldritch said...

i think getting Jack sick was the Island's punishment for Jack trying to get everyone off of the Island. i think Benny Boy's spinal issues were punishment by the Island for something... not sure what though. maybe putting his own needs in front of the needs of the Island?

it seems like when you're in tune with the Island, you get better and when you are not in tune with the Island then you get sick (or stop getting healed). remember when Locke was getting all paralyzed again?

Stephanie said...

Interesting, p. Where is everyone?

PalmerEldritch said...

maybe they are busy baking up some dharma fish biscuits for tomorrow night's episode?

[ally] said...

*raises hand* I'm right here, Steph, but I have nothing interesting to add.

I like P's theory though. It makes sense.

PalmerEldritch said...

how many episodes of LOST are left and when do they air?

PalmerEldritch said...

er... uh... THIS season, that is.

Alirio said...

I am also here... lurking for the most part. bereft of anything to add due to my recent obsession with BSG!

Already at episode 304.... liking the twists and turns...

about LOST, I can't help but think that we're missing some BIG picture... I look forward to one of those episodes that will make previously insignificant things in previous episodes part of the (latest) central stream of the show's plot...

I wonder if all this island stuff will be re-experienced by one or more principal characters as seen in the Constant... seems like Ben might have been doing that kind of thing all along, with everything he knows...

Maybe that's what "changing the rules" meant...

The first time he lived through it alex was spared, but this time she wasn't?

Anyway... I'm still researching good hotels in San Diego for Comic-Con... any suggestions?

[ally] said...

Maybe MB or somebody who's spoiled can give us a heads up about how many episodes are left.

I'm afraid to look, I'm afraid I'll run into spoiler zone.

andrew. said...

- The island is making Jack sick so he has an excuse for being such a whiny-baby-man. or maybe it's not about Jack at all, but instead the island has been trying to give Juliet the courage & experience to follow her own dreams of being a miracle-working spinal surgeon.

- i'm looking forward to Thursday's episode going nuts with mythology.

andrew. said...

i deleted the names of episodes for the hardcore spoiler free.
basically the Ep 12 + Ep 13 = 3 hour finale

Season 4, Episode 11
Original Air Date: 8 May 2008
1 Hour

Season 4, Episode 12
Original Air Date: 15 May 2008
1 Hour

Season 4, Episode 13
Original Air Date: 29 May 2008
2 Hours

memphish said...

Wow, actual LOST talk, and I've been gone all morning. As for why Jack got sick it is because he is out of communion with the Island as was tumor inflicted Ben. I'm not sure whether or not the Island's plans were then thwarted by normal medical intervention or what.

I'd also say that Locke was out of communion when he stopped being able to walk/feel his legs leading up to Boone's death. Once upon a time on my blog I made a big ole case for Locke's desire to open the Swan being not what the Island wanted rather than what it did want (which is how Locke interpreted things.) I think in fact that the Island wanted him to find the Pearl before the Swan.

Aliro,

Find an OK hotel with a good cancellation policy and book it now. I'm having a hard time finding a place as many of them are filling up.

It seems like the only ones that are left are either 400 a night (ouch!) or in Tijuana.
