I'll back him up on that!

My internet almost works again after over two days or service provider crapness. Just in time, too.

Last thread -
Stephanie: Wasn't Peter Stormare rumored to be apart of the season 4 cast? Wonder what role he was supposed to play? Keamy?

I stand by my assertion at the time that he was possibly being lined up to be given Alpert's stuff to do if Cane had continued and he wasn't available.

How likely is that?

The reruns of LOST last night had those popups. If you want to read them without the annoyance of having the show behind them, here's Something Nice Back Home and Cabin Fever.

Here's an interesting one from Cabin Fever:

The sickness the captain speaks of
was caused by
the freighter's close proximity to the island.
If the boat people are getting the sickness just from being near the Island, why aren't the 815ers?

I thought that maybe Harper was being set up as Alpert's replacement in case of Cane's success. I wonder if she'll be there in the finale next week, I figure that she's part of Alpert's group.

Do we know who writes those 'enhanced' scripts. I mean, is it actually from Darlton or the writers, or is it some ABC flunkie who's as in the dark as we are?

memphish said...

I'm not sure the "canonicity" of those pop-ups. I think Jay of Jay and Jack at some point mentioned he knew who was writing them, but I never heard him say who it was or what their status is.

I just read those transcripts... they keep saying the freighter is 90 miles off shore, i thought it was 80...

Ralph Garman was the man on the Joe Schmo Show.

hey! isn't Dr. Pat (or just Dr Pat with no . for Herlihy and Chris... and for delicious Dr Pepper) from the Joe Schmo Show now on SNL?

nice predictions, dharmalars.

my prediction? Claire will reveal that at least one of the reasons that she went with her Ghost Dad (stick THAT in your queue, bitches!) is cuz if she can hang out with ghosts then she hopes she can hang out with Ghost Charlie. of course, i'll be horribly wrong but it'd be a nice touch.

Kristen Wiig was Doctor Pat.

Benjamin said...

Ralph, you're blowing my mind right now! Have you told me that before, and I did my patented learn something then forget it, then be excited when I learn it again?

PalmerEldritch said...

ben, how did we not notice that until now? and why didn't ralph tell anyone until i realized it this morning?!

"Ashes to ashes, dust to dust, Dr. Pat, you're dead to us." *smash!*

Chris JC said...

Palmer - don't forget Elias.

Nice one - though. A lot of people don't seem to know that one - heck even most folks from this country write Mr. and Dr. now anyway.

I've seen Ghost Dad.

"His name was Edith!"

Ralph- said...

i am fairly certain that i mentioned it before.

Lance Crawl was Dwight's Dojo master on the Office, he played "The Gay Guy" on Joe Schmo. he also has a show on VH1 or something called Free Air or Free Radio or something

PalmerEldritch said...

he played Kip (un Cubano) and had his own show once too. he was also on Monk at least once.

Anonymous said...

Matthew Kennedy Gould and Steve Wiebe are, in my mind, tied for the "Nicest Guy in the World" title.

Great link Chris. I especially like the last bit of this one:

Thong is a blink-and-you'll-miss-it hamlet, south-east of Gravesend in Kent. It has absolutely no connection with skimpy undergarments. Travel links, however, are good – it's just 500 yards or so from the A2 (almost too close)...

Benjamin said...

Oh, I don't know. We probably talked about it and everything. It seemed brand new this morning, but familiar now.

Unknown said...

Ryan, that is 100% correct!

andrew. said...

- i really liked the theory that all of the Oceanic 6 pooled their money to help Sun buy out Paik. The issue is that that would suggest that the Oceanic 6 had determined to battle Widmore/Dharma really early upon getting back to the real world. That would work if they had always planned on returning to the island and rescuing the other survivors, but the flashforwards suggest that they all try to reacclimate to the real world.

- Question: Do you think Sun & Kate got more money in the settlement because they had a dead spouse & traumatized baby?

- my theory is that part of the reason they are keeping up their lie is that they made some sort of pact with somebody on the island that's protecting everyone that they left behind. Otherwise, if there really are a bunch of losties stuck on craphole island, in the usual bout of mortal danger, I'd have to hate every one of the Oceanic 6.

- I don't know if it was my computer speakers, but I had a really hard time hearing the podcast. I had everything turned all of the way up and the audio levels were really low. I know you guys mentioned that Ben was going to take over some of the production duties so i thought i'd mention it and try to get him in trouble.

LOSTHUR.....

damn. :(

Well there are worse things than Lost re-runs

Speaking of re-watching Lost eps., was watching Shape of Things to Come, and realized that, unless there are two Ben Linuses running about (which, actually is not outside the bounds of possibility for this show - lol), I don't think that person in the background of that photo that Holli posted a thread or 2 ago is Ben.
When he finds Sayid in Iraq, Sayid asks him how he got off the island (or "what the are you doing here" or something along those lines), which would most likely mean that Sayid hasn't seen him since coming back to civilization. Although I guess its possible that Ben came back with the O6 and then returned to the island.

mb said...

update - after asking Ben what he is doing there he asks "How did you get off the island?"

Benjamin said...

Andrew - Actually, I haven't produced my first episode yet. You'll know it by the all-They Might Be Giants playlist! ;)

Our production issue may have been the use of the snowball (not the sex move) and/or the lack of the Ryan, or the fact that we did it quick and dirty (TWSS) just to get it out there.

Trevor McFur said...

I think that Sun would have gotten extra money for Jin. You would think that the O6 got a nice fat settlement, but you would also have to think that the families of the other survivors probably had some sort of settlement of their own; Sun would probably be included in that.

memphish said...

Andrew -- I do think Sun got a double settlement. I'm not sure about Kate, but it would be good PR for Oceanic to give Aaron as well as Kate a settlement. You'd think that would be put in a trust until he's 18/21.

Jordan -- Billy Mitchell is indeed the devil.

And now setting myself up for Jordan movie ridicule along the lines of Vantage Point -- I just saw Speed Racer and I actually liked it. Now don't get me wrong; it's FAAAAARRRR from a perfect movie. But it was like watching Mario Kart Wii on the big screen with more crashes. I didn't even check my watch despite the over 2 hours running time.

I've been so far behind on podcasts that it's taken me this long to get to Monday's Jay and Jack. I like the idea some listen had of Jin, Sawyer, and/or Desmond taking off in the freighter to blow up; sacrificing themselves so the Oceanic 6 can be rescued. Sounds like Sawyer would make a good candidate for that. Jin too. But not Dez. I like Lost.

scrdmnkydst said...

I've not heard any of their stuff.. I'm thinking i should before i review them...

scrdmnkydst said...

Just thinking... Surely, Kate must have done something bad in between There's No Place Like Home (1) and when the O6 landed in Hawaii for Hurley not to introduce her, along with Sayid, for hugs and kisses with Mama & Papa Reyes...

Holli

PalmerEldritch said...

not yet, holli. you going to take one for the team and review it for us?

memphish said...

I won't get a chance to see Indy for a couple of weeks. We're leaving tomorrow for the beach with the kid. And PG-13 Indy isn't in the kid's cards until I get some parent reviews. We are planning to catch Prince Caspian but I hear it's pretty brutal. I'm planning on getting a first hand review of it today at swim team practice. Ah, summer -- trading school car pool for swim team and camp carpools.

PalmerEldritch said...

i've heard that the new Narnia is pretty violent. no blood though, apparently. but lots of fluffy animals getting killed.

[ally] said...

so what are the big plans for memorial weekend? for those of us who celebrate it.

memphish said...

We're going to be at the beach (Destin, FL) for Memorial Day, and I figure it will be a normal beach day -- you know, Bloody Marys around 11; beer with lunch; margaritas in the afternoon; wine with dinner.

The more important question is how are you celebrating Lost Finale Night? I told Hubby last night that he and kid might want to plan to go out Thursday night from 7-10 CDT. You know, a round of night golf; late dinner; even later ice cream run. Hubby said just make sure you don't do anything to get us kicked out of the condo. Considering how I was screaming at the TV last year for Jack to kill Ben when I thought Bernard, Jin and Sayid had been killed, that's not a bad reminder.

Holli

PalmerEldritch said...

yard work, opening the pool, maybe some house work...

but also maybe some Indy 4.

and definitely lots of GTA4.

scrdmnkydst said...

Memorial Day?

Pfft. It's Bank Holiday Monday for us. Good times. A day off for absolutely nothing. Alas, it shall be filled with essays and reviews. gutted.

As for Lost Finalé Night... I'm off to a gig. Probably won't be able to see it til saturday though. :(

[ally] said...

I'm going to the river with my friends for the weekend. A weekend at the river includes lots of boozing and tubing. I know this probably doesn't make sense to a lot of people. lol.

As for Lost Finale Thursday "LoFiThu", I'm sure I'll have to plan something grand, maybe leave work early have dinner before the 7 rerun so I can pay full attention.

that's what she said...

question o wise ones....

is it possible to listen to the old scott and steve podcasts? where might one go to find such artifacts? I checked ITunes and couldn't find.

PalmerEldritch said...

check the SAS message board. people have posted links in the past but i'm not sure if those links are currently working or not...

but maybe some of them are. they're definitely worth the effort. good conversation, funny shenanigans, and fantastic playlists.

also, i think Seattle Jimmy does his "Australian girlfriend" impersonation in one of the call-in sections.

Trevor McFur said...

Yard work, bbq, mom-in-law's birthday extravaganza. And lots of alcohol to get me through the latter.

Thursday night, it's me and the dogs on the couch. Mrs. McFur is welcome, but not welcome to ask questions throughout after not watching all season, like happened during last year's finale.

Darryl Cunningham said...

Remember when it was commonly believed that Patchy, briefly seen on the Pearl Station monitor, must be Radzinsky, the dead Swan Station button pusher? This misconception took a long time to die.

Well there is a current misconception that's also taking its time in kicking the bucket, and that's the idea that the flash-forward seen at the end of season three, must be the endpoint of the whole series. Bearded Jack in despair, talking to a freckle-free Kate.

Well I think with two seasons still to go, that this outcome is really unlikely.

Here's my prediction. Season Five will show what has happened to the crash survivors who were left behind, while showing how the Oceanic Six are convinced to return to the Island (and finally achieve this aim). Season Six will show what happens when the whole group are reunited on the Island, and what their aims and destiny, really are.

Lost is a cosmic show about destiny and its creators have tended to think big. Have a little faith that these talented writers have something more in mind than bleak despair.

memphish said...

I can see that Tall Guy. TPTB have said the S3 finale was not the end of the show, but you're right, I heard some podcasters going on about that the other day. As a result, I stopped listening to that podcast. Keep up people!

Holli

Trevor McFur said...

Yeah, tall guy, I'm with you, I don't see that as the final outcome at all. My bet is, that scene comes either next week, or early next season, and that most of next season is the O6 trying to get back to the island, taking place after that scene.

Trevor McFur said...

Wasn't it Oklahaimee saying that last week? You've given up TLI?

memphish said...

I don't think Aimee said the end of S3 was the end of the series. But I could be wrong. The one I'm remembering is a non-SAS related podcast which prides itself on theorizing. But if they can't get that right, I'm not interested in their theories. I also don't like the way they use Talkshoe. The sound levels are off. One guy's loud; the other's too soft; and if they try to put a 3rd person on they get echoes.

Holli

Darryl Cunningham said...

I think Kim has expressed a worry that the S3 end, might be the endpoint of the series.

Jordan said...

I'm pretty sure Aimee said that she thought that we've already seen the end. That it's Jack all messed up and crazy. And that all that we will we from here to then will just lead up to that. I remember Kim then saying, "Jeez. That's depressing."

Trevor McFur said...

I thought that Aimee said that she had that theory at some point during last week's show. Definitely not a reason to give up TLI!

I think that I know which show you're talking about. I stopped listening a while ago, it was a little too much into the Lost lunatic fringe for my taste (yes, I know full well that a casual viewer would consider anyone who listens to podcasts and hangs out on Lost blogs and message boards to be deeply immersed in the lunatic fringe, but you know what I'm saying). I also hear you on the Talkshoe podcasts, I think that the sound quality is always a pretty major problem.

[ally] said...

I hope everyone has a happy and safe memorial day weekend! i'm out!

see (read) ya, peeps on tuesday!

Trevor McFur said...

I think that it was Kim's theory after the finale, this time last year. But I think it was just an initial reaction.

That would be a really depressing ending to the show. I think that the show is somehow going to end with us finding out the Jack and Kate are Adam and Eve.

Jordan said...

Yeah, That was Kimb's initial reaction last year. But her opinion has changed since then. Now it's Aimee who's the buzz kill. I can't think of a worse way to end the show than to fade out from a drunk/high Jack and a crying Kate.

Stephanie said...

Holli, have fun. I wish I were going to Destin. But I will be working.
So, I go to get my hair done this morning and my hairdresser talks only about Gladiators. She works out and would love to compete. I guess I need to give the show a try since nothing else is on. When is it on?

memphish said...

Mondays at 7pm Central Steph. I think they re-run it on weekends sometimes too. I bet Morgan would love it. But don't try to watch it live. Record and chase playback or watch after it's done recording.

MY REVIEW
for the VERY disappointing Indy 4. *Spoilers*

elias said...

Indy!

mb said...

RE: the end of the series - Holli's right, Cuselof were pretty clear that the last scene of Through The Looking Glass was NOT the end of the series. And like Jordan and Trevor said - it would indeed be incredibly depressing, and honestly, it would be bad storytelling and out of character for the writing on this show. While they do go for shock-value sometimes, they generally have an explanation for the important plot points on the show. Ending the series so unresolved would be something you would do if you got unexpectedly cancelled - not if you have the final 40+ (how many is it now?) episodes planned out.

For reference, and anyone who is interested (I think I've posted this b4), Damon and Carlton laid out the VERY general plan for this season and the next two in this New York Post article - go straight to #2 on the list
although, at this point, there's nothing in the article that we don't already know. I think I heard them say similar things in the OLP as well.

- Memorial day: cat-sitting and work. self-employment is cool except when it comes to pipe dreams of calling-in-sick or honest-to-God vacation.
- I hypothesized last year that this season would be one long version of "48 days later" where we are essentially filling in the gaps between current island-time and that aiport/jack-freakout. There seems to be a lot left to cover in the finale, but i still think that's the basic goal.

This one, in fact.

Actually, my now-wife did the main proof read and I did the "geek read" (changing "Cassidy Yates" to "Kasidy Yates", stuff like that).

Upon publication, we asked for a copy of the book each and found that, while they didn't appear to have added any new errors, that vast numbers of our spots didn't make it into the finished book. As a result, the wife in particular was glad that she didn't get credited in the info at the start.

What I MEAN to say, Herlihy, is congratulations.

Also - that I perfected the vegan Yorkshire pudding. No egg, no milk, no meat juice, yet still lovely. How? I can't tell you.

andrew. said...

- i watched the new Indiana Jones yesterday. My expectations were pretty low but i have to say that I was pleasantly surprised. I think if you go in knowing that 'Raiders Of The Lost Ark' was lightning in a bottle and it's unlikely you'll get the same sort of magical chills from a well tread franchise, you'll find 'Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull' to be a pretty good romp. I could have done without some of the ADR'd one-liners, especially from Mr. LeBouf but all in all, I didn't find any one moment truly embarassing, even the much derided snake scene.

- Lost finale so close I can taste my ritual indian dinner already.

that said, it's mainly one big goofy action scene and if you're completely unfamiliar with the Crystal Skull you might be thinking that they're just making it up as they go along.

good stuff. a fun popcorn movie. i want an Indy 3 and a half though.

heheheheh. nice!

i really hope that it's not... EMPTY! like they think it's someone, convince you it's someone, and then at the end, they open it for some reason and there's nobody inside. dun dun dun!

Palmer, it's the damnedest thing. I've never seen anything like it.

So I'm back from inner tubing at the river and it was AWESOME!

The weather was hot as could be but the water was so cool that it kind of evened out. I finally got some sun on my very pastey-white legs.

Steph, I saw some kids being dragged around the lake on those float things. It looked like fun.

Finally saw Iron Man last night and loved it! Can't wait for the other super hero movies I'm waiting on.

Herlihy, belated congrats on your article. It's cool.

Chris mentioned something about proof reading, I think we're all supposed to like that.

I HATE THE Coffin shit(yes I swore sorry to the soft ears)., I never got on board, thats a lie, I was on board un-till I heard 8000 people guess 10000 things:)Then I was WAY sick of who's in the coffin I would say Ben(For The What the F moment.)
Locke For4 the he had a son moment,
Jack for the He Seeing his own dead body in a Coffin moment(time shifts:)
Kate for the WHY!!
Sawyer for the Coffin's Way to Short!
And I'm tierd of typing cocked so I'll end with Micheal the Ringer who will Die At sea:( I'd be a losin man cause he's my pick!

Trevor McFur said...

I go with Ben's funeral, but the tricksy bastard's not really dead. Although, so far as we've seen, only Sayid knows that Ben is off the island. I don't buy into the whole 'short coffin' thing having any significance whatsoever.

Worst husband ever.

PalmerEldritch said...

trevor, where did the maid hide the stolen goods?!

jordan, i'm sure her being attractive didnt influence anyone to root for the red woman at all. but, yeah, her husband seemed a tad psycho. and he was in shape, why did he have to train his wife to be on American Gladiators?

that poor toby guy really stunk it up. and in front of his kids. funny stuff. his tug of war skills were especially noteworthy.

Jordan said...

"jordan, i'm sure her being attractive didnt influence anyone to root for the red woman at all."

Of course not. Never.

PalmerEldritch said...

how bad ass was Brick? dislocating the shoulder and popping it back in during the event?! good stuff.

Jordan said...

Yeah, That was nuts. If that were any of us, we'd keel over in pain and cry for mommy.

So I'm watching tv at 3 in the morning the other night and I stumbled across a 2007 movie titled, "Whisper". Starring Josh Holloway and the docter chick from Prison Break. Holloway plays a, get this, ex-con. Who with his girlfriend and bad friends kidnaps some kid, only to find that he has supernatural telekinetic powers. UH OH! I watched about 30 minutes before I couldn't stand any more.

Palmer, I thought the same thing about the maid. I also wondered ... so this guy hires a nude maid to do his housework for him. She steals all this stuff. So, does that mean, he hires the nude maid and says, "OK, you go do your thing, I'm gonna be down here playing GTA, or working in the garage, or whatever." What I mean is, isn't the idea behind hiring the nude maid to, you know, check her out as she's cleaning?

PalmerEldritch said...

the lesson there?

always run a comprehensive series of tests to judge the psychic power of any and all of your potential kidnapping victims.

PalmerEldritch said...

trevor, maybe she wasn't "as advertised" and he wasnt interested in observing?

I just got an invitation to dinner for a friend's birthday on Thursday. How terrible of a friend am I to not go? Is the Lost finale that much more important to me than friendship? Apparently so.

Jordan said...

Dumb friend should've known better. It's like those stupid people who schedule their wedding for Super Bowl Sunday and expect people to come.

Trevor McFur said...

I don't think that it's quite at the level of a Superbowl wedding ... after all, the majority of the country does NOT watch Lost. But the real issue is you getting the invite only 2 days before the event. If that's the case, you're well within your rights to decline the invite with whatever lame-o excuse you'd like, and not feel at all guilty about it.

PalmerEldritch said...

hey, you could get married at half time.

[ally] said...

Agreed. I don't feel too bad about not going, who plans something like that on a Thursday anyway? Aren't you supposed to celebrate on Fridays? Weekends?

I'll continue ahead as planned. Zombified in front of the TV for 3 hours.

Gladiators!

Crush is still the best. I am really starting to like Toa! that dude is ape shit nuts! De's husband was also bat-shit crazy-scary! Crush is still the best. I am fired up on Titan Hulking Out!!!!! Did anyone see that?! that was fucking awesome! Tug-O-War was ok. It is better than the Run Fast on the Bridge game. I thoroughly enjoyed Venom's "Boob-Cam" on Skytrack...in fact, I am warming up to Venom, on the hole! She looks better this season than last season.

Steel is Mute? sure, i can deal with a Mute Gladiator, but she does not look tough enough to pull off such a gimmick, but she is sort of cute in an Amazonian way.

(John) Rambo on Blu-Ray today. Picked it up. It's still great!! Now where is my "Lincoln Hawk" film?

Jimmy said...

Ralph,

only recently cacting up on Gladiators. Been WAY busy, but used to be obsessed with it in the early 90's (or maybe late 80's). Anyway...I agree about Steel. She just doesn't come across as that hard.

Pheonix all the way for me. Totally my type of buff chick.

Oh yes...I have a show in the can. Will post tonight or tomorrow morning I believe!

Jimmy said...

Also, speaking of Blu-Ray...caught "3:10 to Yuma" last night and was suprised to see "Keamy" in it.

Dudes effing tall!

PalmerEldritch said...

as far as i know, Steel can talk. she just prefers to glower.

Steel is Erin Toughill. boxer and MMA fighter. and Laila Ali beat her up. skip to about a minute left in that clip. ouch!!!!

Unknown said...

Speaking of AG, is anyone going to watch Gina Carano aka Crush on that MMA event on CBS on Saturday?

Palmer, what about City of God as a movie recomendation (if you don't mind subtitles)?

Jordan said...

Palmer beat me to the Ali-Toughill video. lol.

There was also a good deal of bad blood from that fight. Apparently Toughill talking a lot of smack to Ali beforehand. I wonder how they get alond on the set of AG?

Jordan said...

Heck yeah Brennan. I need to remember to set my dvr. I've seen a couple of her fights previously. The girl is a bad ass. But apparently so is the chick she's fighting. Will be interesting to see Gina without all of her AG "padding" and fighting at a much lower weight.

Anybody know how many more ep's of BSG there are left?
