The Light at the End of the Tunnel

Holy crap, I can’t believe the freaking winter hiatus is just about over! NEXT WEEK we can start calling them Lostnesdays again.

I wonder how they'll open the episode. I know this isn't a "season premiere", but it kind of is, so maybe they'll do what they normally do. Pick a song from the 70s or whatever and open on someone's eyeball. Or will they just jump right back to where they left off?

I think it would be nice to open with Juliet's flashback. They don't do stuff like that too often.

Everyone cross your fingers that I get a new book reference in 3x07, so I can stop torturing myself with Infinite Jest. Frickin' Mike and his recommendations.

Mike Campbell said...

i am sorry aimee. i thought if anyone could beat it you could.

Yeah i am pondering they will do something sweet like the first episode when we went to othersville. Maybe it will show how she got invited to the island. and by the end of the episode she gets there

aimee is lost said...

I think it's going to 1) explain how she got to the island, but also 2) her motives for going to it.

The question in 3x07 appears to be where Juliet's loyalty lies; because right now she's playing double agent. We just don't know which side she is actually on. Based on the previews and what we already know of her, it looks like she wants to help Jack and destroy Ben, but then there's some other stuff we've seen in the previews that contradict that. It could be her protecting herself, but it appears TomGay already knows about her.

So that's why I think this episode is going to explore where her loyalty lies, and possibly explain some of that in her flashback.

p.s. I don't like Mike.

I hope the restarting of the Lost Season 3 brings back more episodes of MYOKOMwSAS, Dharmalars, Kim's Lost Diary, and the "Unnamed" Girlycast. That is what got us on this blog to start with, and I miss it.

I caved and read the leaked description of the episode...not sure if 100% true, but if so it should be a good episode.

Aimee, just train the pup to eat Infinite Jest. Problem solved.

aimee is lost said...

Palmer is a genius.

To be fair to Mike though, I'm only like 50 pages into it, so it's only boring because (hopefully) I have yet to reach "the good parts".

But all I can think of is how page 50 reminds me that I still have like 1200 pages to go.

Nevermind, I don't want to be fair to Mike. He stinks.

Mike Campbell said...

well i hope your not hexing me because i am uber sick and i will come after you for making me sick!!!

Mike Campbell said...

There is a New Official Video Podcast. Its not that bad. Its more interviews then everyones favorite couple sitting down and being stupid. Also it show what thee host looks like.

PalmerEldritch said...

Everyone pay attention (and this goes double for Aimee), no hexing Mike. Gypsy magic is right out.

aimee is lost said...

I will be the first to admit that reading is fun. I don't wanna toot my own horn here (okay, maybe a little), but did anyone else read all 37 Lost books during the summer, including The Stand and The Bible?

The introduction to this "book" paints it as a work of genius, but I'm extremely bored and confused here. Maybe I'm too simple-minded for the mindbending work of art that is Infinite Jest.

And for the record, I have not put any hex on Mike. I heart Mike, in a platonic way of course.

Chile Biscuit is sniffling, and running herself in circles lying down on the carpet, to make static electricity like a lunatic puppy. Whoever put a hex on her better fess up.

Mike Campbell said...

dang platonic :)

Its pretty weird to think in a week we will be hardcore talking about Lost again. its spiffy that there will be 16 episodes in a row too. It show the true strength of our podcasters. Can they do it?

aimee is lost said...

Only time will tell. I still have my delusional fingers crossed for the triumphant return of Scott & Steve.

Stephanie said...

The most intriguing thing about the Official Lost Vidcast was how surprised I was that the host doesn't look anything like I'd imagined. What podcaster has turned out to look the least like you imagined? For me, Handsome Jack. I thought he would be heavier than he is.
Aimee, I was just wondering how Chile Bisuit was doing.

PalmerEldritch said...

Sweet Zombie Jesus, that host guy has a case of the crazy eyes! Somebody slip some sleeping pills in his Red Bull. Scary stuff!

Juliet was looking remarkably unscary but I kept expecting her to hold up a series of cards with her real message to viewers.

Anonymous said...

I hope this new episode f*ckin' rocks... we've been waiting forEVER.

The host of the Lost Vidcast looked exactly what I pictured him to look like (sans thick black framed glasses).

Aimee if you need a break from Infinite Jest, I suggest a light read called Dixieland Sushi. (You'll probably finish it in an hour at the rate you read). I'm about 1/3 into it, and it's hella funny. It's about a girl who is half Japanese and grew up in the South. She's now a big city TV producer but has to go back home for her cousin's wedding... who is marrying her ex.

"Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" by J.K. Rowling, the seventh and final book in the best-selling series, has been scheduled for release at 12:01 a.m. on July 21, 2007

WOOHOO

Ralph- said...

Aimee, I bet they open it with "previously on lost", which is just as good as being a spoiler, cause it always let you know people who might show up later in the episode. Like, there will be a day when we see Eye Patch Dude in the "previous" section and we will be spoiled cause we know he will make a return instead of it being a big reveal. god, i hate the previous segment!!!

Anonymous said...

Ralph, Start a petition for dual start times on tv programmes and post it to the White House, or just put your fingers in your ears, close your eyes and say lalalalalalalalala. Then get Stevi to poke you when the programme starts proper.

TeeJ

aimee is lost said...

I really don't think they need to do those "previously on Lost" segments anymore. If you haven't watched the show by now, you're not going to. If you have been watching the show, you don't need to see those clips.

Kim, I will try to remember that book. I'm always looking out for something new. I will finish Infinite Jest because I refuse to let it beat me. It's just so freaking big, that it's impossible to bring to work and read on my lunchbreaks, etc, so I can only read it here at home, which is a lot more slow moving. I'll continue tackling it until Lost gives me a new book.

Steph, CB is doing good, but she's got a bit of the sniffles. She was wiping her flat noseface on my sleeve yesterday, the poor girl. She stays downstairs during the day, and it's colder down here because the thermostat controls are upstairs, so I'm going to move her into one of the empty bedrooms for the rest of the winter. We had snow last night, and CB had a blast running around and jumping in it, it was awesome and so cute. She had it all stuck to her face.

Hey Mike Campbell...
I like your DMB @ Fenway picture.
Are you a big Red Sox fan also?
If so, you go to many games? I am and go to a couple a year.

PalmerEldritch said...

The obvious solution to the "Previously on LOST" segment is to light yourself on fire in protest. That almost always works. Right?

Actually, if you have a DVR or a TiVO, just sit down for LOST, then pause it and go do something for a five or ten minutes. Come back, and have the Mrs. fast forward through the "Previously" section while you look the other way.

Sure, it doesn't help Mrs. Ralph any but Ralph's happy.

Ralph- said...

Stevi is a HUGE LOST fan as well. she is not the kind of wife that sits around rollng her eyes at her obsessed husband. She listens to Jay and Jack every week (minus the spoiler talk) and she actually likes listening to our show. She hates the previously on lost segments too. we usually start lost 20 minutes after the show actually starts, and that allows us to see the show with no commercial interuptions. one of the other reasons that i hate the previously on lost segment is that it shaves off 2 minutes of show time.

how much new footage actually appears in the episode "3 Minutes"? and to top it off there is a previously on lost. I hate when i am fast forwarding through "previously" and see a flashback character. then i know where the flashback story is going to go. it just bugs me.

maybe i am just into having the story revealed to me. my mind is a steel trap. if i miss something in an episode it is my own damn fault. i dont need to be reminded.

Anonymous said...

some shows put clips of the upcoming episode in the opening, so atleast Lost isn't doing that.

i just got cable about a month ago and it came with a DVR. Even though it's just a glorified VCR, i'm enjoying using it. It kind of encourages me not to watch the shows when they broadcast though and the shows are fighting back by starting early and ending late. i missed the bonus scene from BSG last week and i know Lost will pull some of the same stuff. i remember people complaining last year.

Still. i used to have to watch a field of static and spend the whole episode tending to my homemade antenna.

hey guys in case you didnt here boston was under attack yesterday by the mooninites, our city felt it was necesarry to blow up a bunch opf glorified lite brites that depicted the moonites flippin the bird how they thought these things were bombs is beyond me, there was one on the main building of my school and a former alum who now works for adult swim was arrested who planted it, i think this is hilarious and horrible at the same time, its self inflicting terrorism

PalmerEldritch said...

I for one welcome our new Mooninite overlords.

Ralph, you may have to switch weeks with Stevi being the preview-bitch. One week, one of you fast forwards and the other week the other one does.

Or you can write Cuselof an angry letter that they can make fun of during a podcast.

Do you think poor Desmond doesn't enjoy TV and movies because he knows the shock ending ahead of time?

Mike Campbell said...

yeah casey i was watching it on tv. at first they didn't show what the things were but then i saw a mooninite on fenway park and i laughed for about an hour. I think because they spent so much money trying to stop it they can't admit they made a mistake. I am sure in a few days it will all go awya because they had been up for a few weeks.

Who knew "Previously on Lost" could be so controversial? I'm considering going to a spoiler-free lifestyle. It'll be a big adjustment to make but maybe it'll renew my excitement for the show.
Next Friday, I get my DVR installed. I called and ordered one after missing TPIR. I had a recordable DVD player but couln't get it to work after getting Direct TV. Maybe I just can't connect it right.
Aimee, does snow shut down everything in the entire area like a major disaster? I've been praying we don't get snow or ice.

PalmerEldritch said...

1/31/07, Ralph. But I can forgive you for being a day off because of the emotional toll the Mooninite Invasion of Boston took on the entire nation, if not the entire world.

Glad she's ok.

Mike Campbell said...

its a retirement community. I've been down there. it is creepy

aimee is lost said...

Mike, I'm glad you're mom's village was spared!

Steph, everyone here freaks out like a city of idiots when ice or snow is on the way. I stayed home Thursday and today because the commute actually is pretty treacherous when there's ice on the roads; my brother tried it yesterday and ended up a poor soul in a ditch (but was able to get out easily).

My laptop is fried again. I don't know what the fuck happened to it. It keeps rebooting and freezing; it won't perform any actual commands. Some window came up that said in so many words "Back up your file shit woman, because I'm going to implode pretty soon." I can't get it to recognize any CD-Rs or my thumb drives, so I'm shit out of luck here. I went to Wal-Mart & got an 80gb external hard drive. I plugged it in, and the little balloon popped up (saying it recognized the new hardware), but I can't even get the computer to open My Docs folder to start transferring shit.

If I can manage to back up my files, I will try to reformat the hard drive again (which I did only a month ago). But if I can't do that,

I'M GETTING A FUCKING MAC.

aimee is lost said...

Thank God I have my brother's shitty but operable laptop to use in the meantime, and that I was able to record the podcast with Kim the night before my p.o.s. Vaio crashed!

aimee is lost said...

Some of them were insultingly easy, but some of them were tricky so you had to read closely!

Just found out that in Canada, they're showing it at 7pm instead of 10pm.

Ok, I shouldn't be annoyed, but it's totally throwing me off my scehdule of the day-my class ends at 530, and it takes FOREVER to get home at that time...

I agree though, opening on Juliet's flashback would be cool. Or a flashback we think is someone else's, only to have it turned into Juliet's. Even though we know it's a Juliet episode.

Yeah, I'm going to stop now.

Stephanie said...

So... I'm watching this movie
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0450340/
And I see the name Chris Mulkey in the credits. The name looks so familiar. It's Mike from Further Instruction.

Stephanie said...

It's a pretty good movie. Jesus drops the f-bomb.

Darryl Cunningham said...

I remember Chris Mulkey from Twin Peaks.

Stephanie said...

I've sat here and thought myself mad. Didn't they say it would be clear right off the bat in season three just exactly why the Others wanted Jack, Kate, and Sawyer? I still have no idea why.

And I was listening to a podcast that said Lost was created for the gaming generation. Gamers have a need for more complicated plots. I don't think this is necessarily true. I think we are just bored with regular tv. The viewer is more sophisticated and expect more from their tv show. What do y'all think?

aimee is lost said...

Steph, read the book "Everything Bad is Good For You". I'm too lazy to look up the author for you, but it's an amazing book that argues how television is actually making us smarter, and uses shows like Twin Peaks, 24, CSI, Lost, etc as evidence. This guy backs the whole thing up with a lot of scientific evidence; it's a brilliant book - any one of us would really enjoy it.

Stephanie said...

I'll look for it, Aimee. I just watched the beginning of the movie Idiocracy.http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0387808/
The movie proposes that society is getting dumber because smart people are cautiously putting off having children and the Jerry Springer-type people are multiplying like bunny rabbits. It might be that actually society is becoming more polarized- smart are getting smarter and dumb are getting dumber.
My father-in-law brings up a good point- why is the cost of education still rising when the availability of information because of the internet should be bringing the cost down?

Craig helped me out in debunking the compatibility myths, which were my primary concern. I had to buy a new copy of Microsoft Office, but that was the only thing I had to actually buy separate. I can still use everything I already own (printer, microphones, thumb drives, etc).

It's so awesome to have the built in camera & microphone; no more dangling cords and mounting anytime I want to use the webcam! The graphics are so crispy and cool looking too; it's a very noticeable difference.

There's a lot you have to get used to, like the way the system and file folders are sort of arranged, and the keypad functions, and tons of other things like that. But Craig said that you get used to it fairly quickly, and once you get a Mac, you'll never look back. I'm looking forward to the getting used to it part! Jimmy is a big Mac-guy too, so he's waiting to iChat and junk...this is so much fun!

Once I become experienced with using Macs, I'm going to be so happy, because I'll have the knowledge of both systems. I'll still be spending 8 hours a day at work on PCs, so it's not like I'm going to forget how to use them. That, and it isn't easy to shake a lifetime of PC experience.

Alright, Mac Nerds, remember to pick up an additional two years of AppleCare sometime in your first year of ownership. And then make sure to activate it! Warranties are your friends.

I'm posting from an iBook G4. Why couldn't I have just waited a year and bought a MacBook instead?! :(

aimee is lost said...

I'm a MacDork; I don't have the experience to be called a MacNerd.

The MacDork species are really excited, they have wide eyes and are known to be optimistic, yet they're still pretty naive when it comes to actually, you know, using the Mac.

I've spent my whole life on PCs, so now I'm going to give the other side a try. If it doesn't work out, I guess I'll just become one of those people who don't use machines at all.

Some of the coolest looking things about OS X for the new user are:

Turning Magnification on in the Dock

If nothing else, Macs are shiny.

And don't forget that you can download a free Lost Widget so that you have to enter the code every 108 minutes. Try that out for a bit and you'll realize why everybody in the Hatch was always so cranky.

Palmer, are you serious about the reliability or is that another myth? I need to know so I don't get my heart set on this.
How's apple's stock? Might as well buy some of that while I'm at it.
Best commercial so far? Careerbuilder.com- midevil battle armed with office supplies.
CBS's ads tonight make their shows look good enough to even watch. I may DVR Jericho. I hear it's good.

PalmerEldritch said...

Steph,

I've no reason to think that MacBooks are any less reliable than PC laptops. But out of warranty repairs on any laptop can add up. With a Mac, you start with a one year warranty. An additional two years of warranty costs about two or three hundred dollars. I'm pretty sure that you can buy it any time during the first year if you want to wait on getting it.

Anyhow, on ANY laptop, I'd recommend getting an extended warranty. Stinks to spend a couple grand on a machine and then have it fail after the one year warranty runs out.

Unfortunately, AppleCare does not cover accidental damage. So, never drop your Mac down an elevator shaft or spill your fish tank on it.

PalmerEldritch said...

Oh. And anyone who buys an AppleCare warranty for any Apple product, make sure to activate it and register it to your product. Otherwise, Apple has no record of the extra warranty being applied to your iPod, MacBook, or whatnot.

P.S. Not a good day to be Rex Grossman, eh?

New things for a new week:

Watched Children of Men last night - 7/10 (mainly for the camera work, i counted at least three scenes that were one single, continuous rolling shot for about 10- 15 minutes - blood on the lens and everything)
Also watched One Last Kiss - 5/10 (mainly because you get to see Rachel Bilson's boobs. Overall a poor effort from Zachariah Braff - i expect better from him.)

New Music i've found:

Aimee Mann - download all her stuff, beautiful, beautiful, beautiful sounds.
Youth Group - Aussie band, not bad at all.
Shout Out Louds - Bizarre album name, Howl Howl Gaff Gaff. Again, not bad at all.

Fuck Macs, i've got Vista, and Media Centre is everything i've ever wanted, ever.

Lost quiz: got 6/10.

Finally, i hate to keep harping on about the weather, but it was 15o Celcius at the weekend, and now it's 4 - fucking ridiculous. I'm freezing cold, and going for a cigarette is a major chore. How's that going for you Aimee?
