Whoo! Lost.

When did Juliet and Sawyer become all chummy. Last think i remember they hated each other and begrudgingly killed those Others together at the end of Season 3...

Great Podcast Jimmy, just finished it.

Thanks, Ms Kim :)

Anytime James!

I was just checking my TV listings. I have 2 eps of LOST tonight from 9 to 11pm. Does this mean, 2 more eps, or are they repeating "The Lie" before they air "Jughead"? My guide doesn't specify. I'm sure I could look it up, but that's what you peeps are for, right? :P

The Lie airs before Jughead.

- Will "The Lie" be pop-up dumbhanced?

- I like to think that Faraday's crying is tied more closely with the discovery of the fake Oceanic 815 since that was the trigger. To tie it to Charlotte's death, perhaps Faraday thought that he had somehow stopped Widmore's quest for the island, hoping to keep Charlotte from ever returning there.

- What is the magic box that the man from Talahasee emerged from? Do you think we'll ever find out or is that thread gone. They brought it up when Ben & Locke were in the Orchid, but it feels like a mystery that would be convenient to lose at this point.

- "Tha Kid" had some good comments but he posted them in the TLI Podcast thread that we had long abandonned.

Yes Andrew, The Lie will be dumbhanced.

Anyone have any ideas what it was Ben had hidden in the vent at the hotel? I haven't heard much speculation on that so far.

"What is the magic box that the man from Talahasee emerged from?"

a metaphor.

LOSTnesday already? i've still got to listen to a couple Jay and Jack's and a Transmission. actually, only listened to The Dharmalars and TLI so far. :)

Herlihy, Juliet and Sawyer became all chummy when the freighter sank and they were the only two main characters not from the Freighter left on the Island. :p

and i'd imagine that being stuck bouncing through time together could forge a powerful "we better work together so we don't die" bond.

hey, so, if you give our heroes a timestamp at the date of the crash (2004), the Time-Hoppers are still Crash+108days but the Oceanic Six are Crash+3years. unless the Time-Hoppers time-hop for three years, then when the O6 get back to the Island they'll be three years older than the Time-Hoppers are used to seeing them. for Sawyer, Aaron will suddenly be three. weird.

Sawyer: "Kate!"
Kate: "Sawyer!"
Together: "It's been -"
Sawyer: "-weeks!"
Kate: "-years!"
*Brains Asplode!*

and will the O6 end up back in 2004 on the Island or will the Time-Hoppers just skip to 2007 before they stop Time-Hopping and meet the O6? or something else entirely?

- i got that it wasn't a big box. I think Locke understood that too. When Locke asked Ben if the bunny time-traveling chamber was the black box and Ben sassily replied "no John," i took that to mean that time travel, the mystery/answer du jour, alone doesn't explain the island's powers. I guess i meant "what is the mechanism by which Anthony Cooper got to the island?" Did the island beam him up on its own (like Kate's horse) or did the Others actively send out for gagged-con man. I'm afraid that TPTB are never going to explain it further and want us to imagine some hazy scenario involving magic, teleportation and time travel. (see: the numbers)

- Things Ben could have been hiding:
* Jack's drugs. Why flush them when you can lord them over him.
* Blackmail documents about Widmore and the truth about the fake 815.
* Payment to hired agents who are fucking with the Oceanic 6 in order to motivate them to return to the island (those lawyers that showed up on Kate's door, the guys posted outside of Hurley's mental hospital, the people that showed up at Sayid's safe house...) Ben has been off of the island before, and i think he has ulterior motives that just happen to match up with the Losties' need to get back to the island.

Jimmy:
It kind of diminishes the importance of a character death, I feel...

Yes, this is true. Kinda like on Heroes. So many characters end up coming back to life, that it takes a lot away from the actual deaths.

Holli:
At this point I can't figure out how they are going to do this entire time travel thing without diminishing the whole show.

This is a big fear of mine. It's as if "time travel" is Darlton's ultimate out for answering all the questions people have been demanding be answered. I'm still game, and the show is still awesome. But I can't shake this feeling I have that there might have been a better way to handle all this. I'll reserve judgment til it all plays out. I just hope they don't use time travel as too much of a crutch the rest of the way.

Didn't Ben tell Locke specifically that the Magic Box was just a metaphor?

Also, I always assumed that Ben sent someone from the Island to get Anthony Cooper and bring him to the Island before the Swan station blew up, rendering people unable to return to the island.

But, then that makes me confused because how the hell was Tom able to leave the Island during Season 3 to go to New York and recruit Michael, and return in time to be shot by Sawyer at the end of season three.

This TV show hurts my head. :(

Just finished reading Watchmen. Gonna be interesting to see how that works out as a movie. Definitely some stuff I don't see translating too well.

i assumed that Tom or Alpert arranged for the crash of Cooper's car and his abduction. but then we got the really weird "the island won't let you die" in the episode "Meat: Kevin's Johnson" so maybe the island's happy fun time magic just nicked him from the space time continuum so Ben and Locke could do some hangin' with Mr. Cooper.

now, why'd Locke have to kill his dad (have someone kill his dad)? did the Island want him to prove he had gonads? or was it something weird that Ben or Alpert made up? methinks Ben just made it up cuz it was something he thought Locke couldn't do and was something that he had done to his own dad to prove himself to Alpert. or maybe Alpert made them both do it just to prove themselves to him? :\

creepy dude that Eyeliner.

he doesn't wear eyeliner though!

KABLAMMO

Jordan said...

No. He had it surgically applied so as to not have to.

I was watching the rerun of the lie and I think I just saw the actor that plays Walt in a Tyson Chicken commercial. Did anyone else think that was him?

Mr. Bill said...

Yeah! That was Malcolm David Kelly in the commercial. Very funny I think he traveled in time to a place where frozen chicken nuggets actually taste good.

Stephanie said...

I don't see what the big deal about Jughead is.

memphish said...

Jughead the entity or Jughead the episode Steph? Or both? Both were a bit a flat for me as a plot device and as storytelling since the fans figured out all of the twists but one (a certain name) and even that was half given away by the previews.

PalmerEldritch said...

ha! fantastic. good stuff.

when do we get our thread to be talk all about the episode? :)

Stephanie said...

Apparently I'm alone.

DenAss said...

Steph - You missed a Kablammo opportunity there at 23.

So hey, my DVR shut off right when Locke was talking to Alpert...

And then I guess the show went just over 1 hour on my DVR...

Can anyone give me a summary, or perhaps some detail on how that conversation went?

andrew. said...

Richard Alpert was all like "WHAT? i gave you this compass? Why don't I remember that?"
Locke came back at him "It hasn't happened yet. I'm from the future. You've got to tell me how to get off the island. You told me I've got important work to do"
Richard was skeptical. "That doesn't sound like me, why should I believe you"
Lock thought on it and then was like "OH SNAP! I totally get born in a couple of years, look me up"
Then Locke started getting squirrely and yelled "It's happening soon. Noooooooooooo!!!" and blinked out to a time when the camp didn't exist any more.
The other Losties were standing around and then Charlotte answered the blogspots prayers and got a nosebleed of the deadly kind.

DenAss said...

thanks Andrew. I guess I didn't miss THAT much. but BOY was I pissed when the show just freaking stopped right in the middle of that conversation!

t-dot kim said...

Steph, I thought it was better than average...but not the greatest episode in LOST history

DenAss said...

too much mythology for the t-dot, eh?

memphish said...

FYI -- apparently during the pop-ups it said that Farraday's mom's name is Eloise. His mouse was also Eloise. And the girl with the gun in Alpert's camp was Ellie. So the new connection speculation is that Mrs. Hawking was holding the gun on her son.

Holli

James said...

I think that Ellie (or gun girl) is in fact Penny's mother. If you can travel time and want to kill someone's daughter, and she is hidden as safely as can be...the best way would be to make sure the parents never got together. Ben wants Penny's mother dead, or at least not able to hook up with young Charles. Kind of like the Terminator and the plot to kill Sarah Conner.
