I was seventeen, when I heard the countdown start
It started slowly and I thought it was my heart
But then I realised that this time it was for real
There was no place to hide I had to go out and feel
But there was time to kill and so I,
I walked my way around town I tried to love the world
Oh but the world just got me down and so I looked for you
In every street of every town I wanted season 5.
I wanna I wanna see LOST now
I wanna see LOST now

COUNTDOWN

PalmerEldritch said...

i see your countdown and raise you one FINAL COUNTDOWN(, The)

We're leaving together,
But still it's farewell
And maybe we'll come back,
To earth, who can tell?
I guess there is no one to blame
We're leaving ground
Will things ever be the same again?

It's the final countdown...

We head for the Island and still we stand tall
Cause maybe that Jacob will welcome us all
With so many light years to go and things to be found
I'm sure that we'll all miss her so.

How very odd, Simon...'s a British series, but is clearly more well remembered overseas. I've never heard of it!

My only knowledge of Simon is from SNL too. Speaking of SNL I have high hopes for tonight's episode with Neil Patrick Harris hosting.

so, what you're trying to say is that you're beginning to see Palmer Eldritch all over the world?

that's mildly amusing if you've read the book.

definitely remember Simon and Simon. err... the Chalk Simon and the Tub Simon. Simon and Simon the tv show too but that's a different story.

dont remember ever seeing Jamie and His Magic Torch. but the character design is familiar. and generic. so thats probably it.

here's the obligatory Picture Pages youtube link.

Steph, I don't think that girl from Can't Buy Me Love looks Evangeline Lily. She looks like this this girl.

Alirio, yes, I've seen that before. You'll be in Barrie, Ont?!! Hope you don't get snowed in. If you do--at least you'll have something good to watch on TV.

Chris JC said...

I've done a picture featuring Steph's suggestion for an Evi lookalike, matched with Evi herself in a similar pose so people can more easily see if they agree.

andrew. said...

- They definitely have the same goofy, slightly bucktoothed smile. When i went to IMDB earlier to verify that it was in fact not Evi, i found out that the girl in "Can't Buy Me Love" was on an episode of "Silver Spoons" which IMDB helpfully streamed for me on Hulu. I watched a full 10 minutes before i was able to break from its hypnotic grasp. That girl had Rick Shroeder wrapped around her finger just like Kate with Jack.

- Jordan, just watching that video had my bowels in a knot.

Jordan said...

I agree with Kim's Evangeline Lily look-alike. Reason being, I was the one who pointed it out to her. Those pics on imdb aren't a good example. But when she was on Six Feet Under, she totally looked like her. And yes Steph, in an "not as good looking version" kind of way.

t-dot kim said...

:P yes I admit it Jordan. I totally stole your Evi look-a-like thunder. Sorry, again.

Dog Fight is a messed up movie that she's in. River Phoenix was in it too--he was so hot. I think the LOST casting ppl should cast Lili as Lily's sister. They could pass for family easily.

Who was Ben signaling to at the Orchid?

He he. Jack said Son of a Bitch.

It pisses me off that Ben lies. The writers are cheating when he does that. We can't figure this show out if we don't know what is ture and what is not.

scrdmnkydst said...

But Ben's a master of manipulation... a manipulator usually lies about stuff... if Ben didn't lie... i don't think the character would be as affective..

Steph,
I think that it's coked up strippers. :P

PalmerEldritch said...

"Wonder what "negatively charged exotic matter" is exactly."

a plot device. ;)

actually, wikipedia says all sort of interesting stuff about it that ties it in with other LOST techno-babbble.

"Exotic matter is a hypothetical concept of particle physics. It covers any material which violates one or more classical conditions or is not made of known baryonic particles. Such materials would possess qualities like negative mass or being repelled rather than attracted by gravity. It is used in certain speculative theories, such as on the construction of wormholes. The closest known real representative of exotic matter is a region of pseudo-negative pressure density produced by the Casimir effect."

but what it boils down to seems to be "magic" while keeping your scientific street cred.

remember when Darlton used to say "everything on the show will have a scientific explanation?" there's your negatively charged exotic matter.

I boycotted the Golden Globes in honor of their LOST snub. I did peak at pictures of dresses online.

Instead I watched the first 2 hours of 24. We didn't start watching until an hour into our recording so no commercials! Yeah! I enjoyed it so far. Nothing too earth-shattering, but it kept the things that annoy me to no end like terrible foreign terrorist accents and anyone emotionally tied to Jack (yes I mean Kimberly) completely out of the picture. Our goal is to watch again tomorrow night and evaluate from there. What will be its normal timeslot? I have no clue.

Holli

t-dot kim said...

I watched the Golden Globes. Clean sweep for Slumdog Millionaire :D The producer said "fuck"! lol...

Only 2 major fashion disasters... Rene Zellweger and Jennifer Lopez, maybe 3 if you include Angelina Jolie--but the other 2 for sure.

Mickey Rourke won! Heath Ledger won--and handled very tastefully, imo. Kate Winslet took home two awards. (Thank goodness Anne Hathaway didn't win for that AWFUL movie Rachel Getting Married--what a pile of dung).

Clean sweep for 30 Rock too. I love that show.

Did anyone else watch?

Alirio said...

Jordan said...

Didn't watch the globes. Think it's a bit of a stupid award show. Not quite the Oscars, not quite the Emmys (which aren't that great to begin with). Just a mish-mash of everything. Also don't like how they break up the drama and comedy categories, so as to give double the awards. But I guess you gotta please the celebs, or they won't show. Really glad Slumdog was so successful. It totally deserved best score IMO. Glad Mickey Rourke won. Also liked seeing Vicky Cristina Barcelona win. That's a good one IMO. And of course, right on to 30 Rock sweeping as it should. There is not a comedy on the air right now that can hold a candle IMO.

Jordan said...

This goes out to Andrew, as well as anybody else out there who has seen Let the Right One In. I just posted a thread on the forum regarding a rather large spoiler. Interested on some feedback.

Have fun in Newfoundland Alirio. Newfoundland makes me think of Annie Proulx's The Shipping News. That's all I know about it.

If you like funny 24 recaps, you might want to try these recaps. They are Dave Barry approved. The guy also follows LOST, but doesn't recap it.

Holli

Stephanie said...

When you say Newfoundland I think of this.

Let me see if I can recreate my GG rant from last night.
30 Rock is not the kind of show that should be winning all these awards. It's the kind of show we all can really get behind because we are all cool and hip internet people but people who vote? No. I still believe these awards are bought and paid for my the studios. I just feel like this guy is desperate since NBC is doing so poorly in the ratings. He needs a big hit sitcom. And he's putting all his eggs in the 30 Rock basket.

Overall, I'm pleased with the results last night. I was blown away actually that Slumdog won so many and that Mickey Rourke won. Wow. Maybe these voters do have some sense in their heads after all.

memphish said...

I disagree about 30 Rock Stephanie. Look at the other nominees -- Weeds, Californication, Entourage and The Office. I don't watch any of those but The Office, and it has been inconsistent at best of late. And from what I've heard Weeds and Entourage's most recent seasons were really bad. The reality is there are no comedies out there for the most part. But for 30 Rock and The Office the only other comedy I watch is How I Met Your Mother. I mean what should win? According to Jim?

- I watched "Taken" last night. I couldn't place the daughter at first, and then I realized that it was that girl from way back in Season 2 of LOST, Maggie Grace playing a 17 year old, and doing it very convincingly. That movie was a fun action movie, completely in the vein of the Bourne flicks. Over the top in all of the right places. Liam Neeson was much more convincing as a badass in this than either Dark Man or Star Wars.

Stephanie said...

I sampled Taken online. A very typical Besson flick. Over the top acting. It just wasn't my thing. I can see why the guys like his movies.

watching "The Constant" on SciFi.

so, Desmond is bouncing through time and what not. i guess that's consistent with the other Desmond time travel episode. but...

WTF is up with Ms. Hawking in "Flashes Before Your Eyes?" she also jumping through time? she a manifestation of time? the Island? some psychic lady? part of Desmond's imagination?

and does Desmond have precog abilities and time jumping abilities? or is he having little mini-jumps to the future that explain his precognitive powers?

and do we have "Time Travel" in the form of a Frozen Donkey Wheel throwing Ben into the future AND "Time Jumping" or "Time Shifting" in the form of Desmond and Minkowski jumping through time?

are people allowed to be thrown backwards in time via frozen donkey wheels? or is it a "go to the future only" kind of thing?

if we've got (like we apparently do) time traveling, time jumping, flash backs, AND flash forwards, what kind of fun can we expect?

will someone have a flash forward to hanging out with someone who traveled from the past? will they then meet someone time jumping? who will then have a precognitive vision?!

or are we done with the time jumping and precognitive visions now that Desmond's called up Penny? and are we left with just physical time travel?

uh...

and the flash forwards and flash backs. fun!

so, any input?

/yeesh...

PalmerEldritch said...

WENT THERE! then!

memphish said...

P,

My Mrs. Hawking theory is that she's like Richard Alpert, unaging and appearing when and where necessary to further her agenda. She also has a clear understanding of time and its nature thus she's right to say you can't change the big ticket future items like Charlie's death though you can change the means. But like Ben and Alpert she only tells Desmond and us what she wants us to know, not the whole truth and nothing but the truth.

As for Desmond's abilities I don't think he has any control over it. It's only triggered when he is too close to large electromagnetic anomolies, and it's only when he's jumping that he has any sort of recognition of two times at once.

I don't know the proper words for stuff, but what happens to Desmond, Minkowski and Eloise is consciousness time travel as opposed to Ben's FDW bodily time and space travel. I have no idea if that's the only way to move through time and space quickly (tesseract, wormhole, what have you) or if that's also how Tom or Alpert or Ben in the past has left the Island without the exile inducing moving the Island connected to it.

As for when the Island is -- I have no clue and am content to wait until the evening of the 21st to try to figure it out. Ditto for any other form of travel through time or otherwise that we might soon encounter.

Jack: Just trying to work a few things out.
Desmond: Ah, a girl, right?
Jack: A patient.
Desmond: Ah, but a girl patient. What's her name?
Jack: Her name's Sarah.
Desmond: What'd you do to her, then?
Jack: Do to her?
Desmond: You must have done something worthy of this self-flagellation.
Jack: I told her... I made her a promise I couldn't keep... I told her I'd fix her and I couldn't. I failed.
Desmond: Right. Just one thing - what if you did fix her?
Jack: I didn't.
Desmond: But what if you did?
Jack: You don't know what you're talking about, man.
Desmond: I don't? Why not?
Jack: Because with her situation that would be a miracle, "brother."
Desmond: Oh, and you don't believe in miracles?
[Jack laughs and shakes his head]
Desmond: Right. Well then, I'm going to give you some advice anyway. You have to lift it up.
Jack: Lift it up?
Desmond: Your ankle. You have to keep it elevated. It's been nice chatting.
Jack: Jack.
Desmond: Jack, I'm Desmond. Good luck, brother. See you in another life, yeah?

I know that Ben needed Jack to remove the tumor but why did he send for Kate and Sawyer? Just a plot device to get them in a cage so they could have sex right under Jack's nose?

memphish said...

Pretty much Stephanie. I think Ben tells Juliet during Expose that he finds why people are invested in and exploits it (my paraphrase). He knew from all the tension in the Swan, especially during Sawyer's recuperation that he could use Kate against Jack either by directly threatening her or alienating him from her with the cage sex. When she says Sawyer's name first at the creepy beach breakfast with Ben he goes for route B instead of A.

Ben tells Jack later than he doesn't just want Jack to operate him, he wants Jack to want to operate him. After all, once Jack decides he's going to do something, he's going to do it come hell or high water. But they ended up having to move up the timetable and couldn't achieve that. And Ben underestimated Juliet's dislike/hate of him as well.

andrew. said...

- i love Michael Cera's George Michael character, maybe my favorite character on that show, so i would definitely miss him, but i would love to see the writers create a whole movie in which George Michael is constantly just out of the shot (framed off of the screen, just left whenever the characters show up, characters talk to him by addressing the camera head on....) It could be alienating to people who have never seen the show, but i think it would be hilarious. They could also write him out of the movie by having him dissappear in one of Gob's magic tricks or he could be mauled by a loose seal or the family could have had him locked up in an mental institution for making a pass at his cousin.

- Good job on the CIA podcast Stephanie & MB. I deem you both worthy of my continued stalking.

"special brownies?"

Stephanie said...

I just mean especially chocolaty brownies.

phew! ;)

Seven Pounds is on at my nearest Big Cinema.

During matinee showing, entry price is... Seven Pounds! (and Sixty-Five Pence).

Otherwise it's Nine Pounds Seventy.

That this happened doesn't surprise me. But in Hammond, Ind?

"Bad-ass Sayid scene?" Andrews acting makes Anna Torv look like Dame Judy Dench. I'll never understand the fascination with Sayid or even Sawyer. I guess it is esthetic, and if so, I am allowed the esthetic, girl next door, little make-up pleasure I find in Torv. I do agree that Walter is the most fascinating character. I also like Peter, but probably wouldn't watch without Anna Torv. JMO

Also, I enjoyed the Friday Night Lights finale. It is set up for another season, but also is a pretty good series finale if not renewed.

Peter Berg is optimistic for a season 4.

Robert, it's the accents I suppose.
What is interesting to me is Sayid is bad ass but has the most feminine fingernails.

Robert said...

I think by feminine fingernails you really mean GROSS! What kind of man has frickin nails like that?

Anna Torv does a better job with her American accent than Yvonne Strahovski of 'Chuck' who has been vilified for her attempt at the accent, IMO.

Good to see those 30 year olds finally going off to college on FNL. :)

Hey KIM, just in case you haven't checked Gmail - check it :)

Robert, Welcome back!
I hear what you're saying about Sawyer and Sayid - I think they both do some over-acting (Josh Holloway WAY more than Andrews), but overall I have to say I think that between Anna Torv and Naveen Andrews - I buy into Andrews as an ex-iraqi soldier more than I believe Torv as a star FBI/secret task force agent.
That's just how the two performances resonate with me.

New Crank 2 Trailer

regrettably, it looks like Bai Ling is in a good deal of this movie. on the plus side, it's Crank 2 and it looks hilarious.

oh. BSG tonight? anyone just not give a frak about the final cylon? they've been teasing us about the final five since season three or something. right? meh. could care less about the final cylon. just want to see Baltar triumph over the evil Adama/Roslin oligarchy.

- the weather here is frozen donkey wheel. Is that what you're seeing from the chopper Kim?

- The Office was pretty satisfying last night. I didn't care that it wasn't really funny because it was such a good resolution to all of that mess.

- All hail the commissioner of the Empire!

Anyone care to comment on the first 4 episodes of Scrubs? To me, they have a slightly different feel on the alphabet network. Good but certainly not great is my review. Still glad they're back, but they need to end it this season with Elliot and JD joining Kate and Jack in eternal bliss. :) I do tend to be somewhat of a 'shipper' sometimes. Sue me.

I'm getting this weird urge to watch My New Best Friend. This is what happens when I can't sleep.

Who's in the coffin!?

Oh no, that was last year... what are the new mysteries for this year that we're hoping to have answered?

What happened after the Six left, how did Locke die? Where (when?) is the Island?

Any more?

So if Frank had been flying Flight 815 would we have had 300+ survivors? Would he have been as good as Sully?

"Stevie is an extremely camp man, he goes to stay with Tim. A highlight of the episode is making Tim tell his best friends he is gay and performs a camp sexual dance in front of them to win the money before all is revealed."

Chris, please explain camp.

Any thoughts on BSG?

Steph and I have weighed in over the message board Jon. I figure I'll keep the blogspot spoiler free for those who've recorded but not watched.

To be "camp" is to be an effeminate male, gay or straight.

When is the tli podcast coming out? Why so late?

Anonymous said...

come on ladies get your fingers out of your asses

Chris JC said...

Actually I'm not sure that's how the podcast is produced.

Chris JC said...

Ryan has camp properly defined.

in the US you prefer the slightly elongated "campy", but that has fewer gay connotations and more relates to colourful and outrageous.

Although in John Waters' appearance on The Simpsons he defined it as "the tragically hilarious, the hilariously tragic".

Who knows. it all stems from a secret language anyway.

Vada the bona palone!

Stephanie said...

I would call what you are discribing as prissy.

PalmerEldritch said...

steph, check out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Camp_(style) and give special notice to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Camp_(style)#Contemporary_culture and the paragraph on CHiPs and whatnot. that's what i associate with camp or campy.

Amy Poehler Show Details Finally Revealed!
The Untitled Amy Poehler Show, one of the most highly anticipated new shows of the season, still doesn't have a real title, but it does have scoop! For example, Amy Poehler says of the show, set against the backdrop of small-town government, "There is a scene in the show when they are trying to come up with a name for their council, and they say the name is crucial." Hee!

Read the rest here.

I don't know but this doesn't sound appealing to me. What do you think?

PalmerEldritch said...

Rashida Jones dressed as a nurse doesn't sound awful.

also, Aziz Ansari? Motha Ukka won't sell an apple to a Kiwi!!!!
