YES! FIRST, it's been a while. I wait for this episode now every year!
tried to fix some of the audio problems, but i am sure you folks wont mind. i dont know why ben and i sound like we are talking in a tin can, but it is listenable
new dharmalicious goodness! yay!
downloading now...
Third?
I was thinking the Lars was going to every other week. Pleasant surprise.
Hey mb, is the deuce here yet?
ralph, i'll just pretend that any tinniness is a halloween feature. to help make it spooky.
we will go, every other week from here on out.
Hey - this is a nice surprise. I wasn't expecting one of these yet, but I had iTunes on and spotted it coming in.
Also - congratulations, MB!
to add to the sthpookiiinesss to your listening experience, be sure to stare at the album art the whole time!
i'm eager to find out your halloween costume this year, ralph. don't disappoint.
well, prepare to be dissapointed bro. i had a really long day saturday, which prevented me from allowing myself to get into the full halloween experience
So you've gone for the Tobias costume?
hey, you've still got tonight and tomorrow.
or you could just dress up as Producer Ryan or something.
LOSTie/HEROESie/Halloweenie post
the lovely ladyfriend sent me an e-mail with this link in it. jj abrams and grunberg. supposedly.
1. Evil Red Midget - Don't Look Now (1973)
I bet Mohinder saw that picture before he agreed to the current living arrangements.
Just checked out the Dharmalars myspace looking for Halloween pics and found intersting new Aimee in Little Rock pic. If you enjoy Justice Leaguers in porn star poses, I reccomend you check it out.

Oh-h-h-h-h-h-h-h-h-h that's good.
Now a bit blunted by The League of Gentlemen
"I can't believe you fell for that one!"
My monster is:
The unseen manifestation of an ancient evil, seemingly "recorded" by an old house in The Stone Tape.
an hour into Trick-Or-Treating (our town is doing Trick-Or-Treating the day before Halloween in an effort to "just be a bitch"). so far, the neighbor's cat came over and hung out in our yard for twenty minutes. he also attacked a ghost we put outside.
oooh! just got a pirate, a princess, and a vampire. and now there's an elephant.
halloween rules.
oh. and here's some scary Office news in the second paragraph.
ok, now it's the third article. look for the one about the office.
"oooh! just got a pirate, a princess, and a vampire. and now there's an elephant."
like decorations? or costumes? are your cats wearing costumes?
costumed trickortreaters. we just got a trickortreater dressed as a jack-o-lantern and a... uh... an owl? it's, apparently, hard to remember all the way back to five minutes ago.
Try doing a google search for Night Gallery Doll!
apparently i didn't pay attention to the rest of your story, but i got it now.
i'll have to keep some kind of list of what kind of trickortreaters i get, i've had some interesting ones in the past.
a couple of years ago, i got a single trickortreater, i hand him the candy and he slowly backs up, until he gets far enough out to see his friends and then screams "this one has snickers!" and they all run over to my house. that was about the weirdest halloween experience i've had.
i'm kinda nervous about this year, since it's my first halloween at the new house.
Has everyone seen that crazy Div III game with all the laterals? It might not be, "The band is out on the field!", but it's still pretty damn good.
- i liked all of your top 5 monsters
5. Damien (The Omen)
4. zombie Nights of the Templar (Tombs Of The Blind Dead)
3. Krishna zombie (Dawn Of The Dead)
2. Creature From The Black Lagoon
1. Frankenstein's monster
(that was kind of tough, and would definitely be different in the next 2 minutes, so i applaud your lists anew)
- i liked the inclusion of the number station broadcasts. They really are spooky.
-double-feature stick-it-in-your-queue: Mad Monster Party / The Nightmare Before Christmas - 2 of my favorite movies.
"The Office"-spinoff??! concept seems to be more of the same.
the story
Is this a good idea? Everyone seemed to have trouble with a full hour from the cast we already know and love.
My guess is that NBC is loving the loose, cheap structure and the product placement opportunities.
What's this about the IT Crowd I'm reading in the comments? If the new spin-off show is kinda like The Office but nothing like The Office, I'd be all for it. You can have too much of a good thing.
Great. Tv gets even less original. Why does everything have to get CSI'd?
As for a spinoff. While I don't like the idea, (and yeah Steph, I do think you can have too much of a good thing. Too much and it takes away from what was so good to begin with) I think it wouldn't be terrible if it were a whole new show with a whole new cast. But if they spin off a character from the current cast, that will be very lame. I've read rumors of a Dwight spinoff. That would be bad. The thing that makes The Office so go is that it's an emsemble cast. It would be like a Jack spinoff from Lost. Not so great.
Steph, I don't know what you were reading about the IT Crowd. But as I'm sure our UK friends will chime in, it's a British sitcom. I don't know much about it other than that it's being adapted for the US and Joel McHale, host of The Soup, will be starring.
jordan, does your PS3 rebate qualify for those good movies, or just the crappy ones that i'm stuck asking for? i'm hoping that they'll have run out of Species and have decided to send me American Psycho on blu-ray instead.
re: The IT Crowd. from the clip posted, is it a sketch show or a sitcom? either way, it's comforting to know that the UK is afflicted with the same lame canned laughter that we are.
/wants to be a Canned Laughter salesman
//our canned laughter has 3% more guffaws than the leading competitor
Check out the TV theme show quiz. I got 9/10 right, and I don't know if it bothers me more that I got that one wrong, or that all the others seemed so easy.
8/10 - i was really struggling on 1/2 of them though. thanks to syndication i got a B!
10/10
I got 8/10, thanks to some lucky guesses and to someone posting a clip of an old Nickelodeon show I had never even heard of preciously on the message board.
Golden Girls- now that was a funny show. And it holds up well. I never get tired of the Blanche is a slut joke.
Why haven't I listened to the podcast yet? Because Halloween is the new Christmas. Busy, busy, busy. That's no excuse. I'm a bad fan. Will listen driving to the eye doctor. My vision is failing since turning old all of a sudden. I'm considering horned rim glasses. I think they're in style now.
Did anyone over here enter the DarkUFO Fantasy League? I'm asking because I want to brag that I got 305 points in the latest test episode.
I do have a podcast question too. About 40 minutes into the podcast, my iPod starts whirring and draining battery at an alarming rate and then the whole thing locks up. I had the same thing happen with the last Ramblecast. Anyone know why it would do this? How to fix it?
Oh, and Happy Halloween. For us Halloween is not the new Xmas thankfully. Other than a quick Trick or Treating spin and the handful of kids we'll get it's just a normal night with candy.
Holli
How does their fantasy league work? Not that I need another way to multislack.
I don't think you can enter at this point. It's for S4 for realsies. They had 7 different groups of characters and you had to choose 1 from each group. Then each episode you get or lose points based on what those characters do. It's pretty complex, but apparently DarkUFO and his minion are good at Excel. There are over 3000 people in the league and it includes Jorge Garcia as its only truly famous person but also pseudo-famous LOST internet types.
Holli
Top 10 TWSS.
Holli
"pseudo-famous LOST internet types"
I guess that pseudo-famous is still famous.
holli, thanks for that finding that link.
not to mention getting it up for everyone to enjoy.
TWSS.

Sort of good news on a Writer's strike. The Teamsters say they will honor the picket line which should mean the industry will feel the pain a lot faster than just missing the writers. There's also reports that a strike would not begin for another week-10 days which gets another episode of LOST in the can.
Holli
I read somewhere that the last writers' strike lasted 22 weeks, which I couldn't believe. Hope everyone likes reality shows!
i'm ranked at 1650, none of my characters were in "the other 48 days" so i just LOST points this week. i picked my characters for their potential involvement in season 4, so i'm not really surprised by my crappy performance but i'm starting to get nervous about a couple of them not showing up at all or getting killed off early next season.
HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
everybody got their costumes ready?
Halloween Prank in Sacramento. Just watch the first 20 seconds or so. The lame excuses for the next 1:30 aren't interesting.
Holli
Nice. I like the way the chick in the orange heads for the hills. She probably ran out the door and locked it behind her.

Joel is back with the MST3K guys to make fun of more crappy movies!
Happily Halloween Blogspotters
Happy Halloween everyone.
ralph-, I am so disappointed. Why couldn't you have lied and described a wildly imaginative costume just for us?
You could've told us you were a slutty pumpkin or something.
andrew, sweet picture. where'd you find that?
so, driving around town, i couldn't tell which college students were dressed up for halloween and which ones were just morons.
/pretty sure the guy with claws was a ginger wolverine
- palmer i drewed it.
- for some reason it doesn't feel like Halloween. Maybe because it's 68 degrees outside.
- All of my Showtime shows are kind of sucking at the moment. Weeds/Brotherhood/Dexter... pretty boring. pretty. pretty. boring.
Steph, on saturday night, i was not in the halloween spirits whatsoever. the fact that i showed up to the party and did anything at all was a halloween miracle. Next year, i am gonna blow your face out the back of your head with my halloween costume!!!
I think that tonight I'm gonna be dressed as the cranky old man chasing kids off his lawn.
Happy Halloween, suckas!
andrew, apparently, you kick ass. that's a very cool pic.
ralph, don't worry too much. in the past few years, my most creative costume has probably been Dr. Bruce Banner. a labcoat and a badge with the Hulk and the Avengers HQs fictional NY address.
i'm a halloween slacker.
cool picture andrew.
trevor, maybe a little warning next time. lol @ me for not being able to close the window quick enough.
I thought that a warning would have blunted the impact.
i agree. it was definitely an impact.
ralph-, you spoiled the death for me.
what are you talking about
trick or treaters are a comin'...
the first batch scared me, they screamed at the top of their lungs as i was walking by the door.
Has anybody here the rumor that Evangeline Lilly might be leaving Lost after this season? Not sure if it's her call or the shows. Hmmmmm.
-i bought 2 bags of candy but i got home from work too late for the trickers-or-treaters. anyone like snickers or assorted Hershey's?
-Kate needs time with her hobbit.
-i love indian food.
-for your sake, DON'T put "An American Haunting" in your queue. 1st it was damaged so i wasted some prime Netflix rental time getting a replacement and then it was a total bore. The score kept throwing a bunch of false "jump out and scare you" cues at odd moments until i learned to ignore it.
-don't pour salt in your eyes.
I'm sure there are lots of Dom/Evie break-up/her leaving the show stories that will surface as long as the Hobbit and his squeeze are employed in different locations. One of the goals of the announcement of the end of the series was to lock in the writers and actors and other crew that they need to finish the story. I'm betting Kate will be there at the end. There just aren't any other girls left what with pregnant Sun and related to Jack Claire.
The Pohler-Arnetts.
Holli
ralph-, you said the death was a child. I only got 25 mins into it before it was taken down by the man. It, as in the movie. If it were humanly possible for me to see it, I'd pay. I don't feel guilty. Well, I fell a little guilty.
The rumor about Evie is old. I don't expect her to stay without Dom. In that case, either he's not really gone or she won't be hanging around much longer. She seems truly committed. You know, cause I know her so well.
I am Halloweened out.
Always put salt in your eyes!
you downloaded the movie?
by the way. Kablamo
by the way, ryan, i am a big fan of the Danny sub-plot with the poor graph printing company!
"re: The IT Crowd. from the clip posted, is it a sketch show or a sitcom? either way, it's comforting to know that the UK is afflicted with the same lame canned laughter that we are."
The IT Crowd is a sitcom written by Graham Linehan, co-creator of Father Ted. It's filmed before a live studio audience (quite the rarity these days), and was notable for having a role for anarchic comedy figure Chris Morris playing (extremely well) an eccentric boss. In the second series, the boss character is superseded by his son, played by the downright unusual Matt Berry.
I believe the US remake will feature Richard Ayoade playing the same character he does in the original version - a bit like when they tried to do a new version of Red Dwarf with Robert Llwellyn as Kryten. Perhaps this will be as rousing a success as that was.
"Joel is back with the MST3K guys to make fun of more crappy movies!"
Bloody hell!
Will this cause Joel v Mike fan Flame Wars 2?
McG to remake british sitcom Spaced:
here
Bad thing? REALLY bad thing? Or, possiblly..... good thing?
Sounds interesting, gw. Simon Pegg's not in it, I'm not excited.
ralph-, I streamed it. I'm hoping it'll be back soon.
Holli, I bet Pushing Daisies is extraordinary in HD.
I wish I knew Steph. Because it airs at 7 pm local I have to record and watch later and my recorder is not HD. I did notice last night though that really bad green screen looks even worse the larger and clearer it is. Of course the horse racing green screen was supposed to look cheesy.
Holli
yeah, sometimes Heroes looks redonkfreakindiculous with its green screens. we're hoping that its just that the HD shows all the imperfections.
Heroes Origins Cancelled!
Guess Tim Kring's poo just turned back to brown.
Holli
I wish they still made this.
Holli
can't say i'm all that heartbroken over the impending lack of Heroes: Origins.
oh well.
Why 'remake' "Spaced"? It's the basic premise of every sitcom for the last 40 years, but transformed by writers that actually love and understand pop-culture (rather than the usual feel of your dad trying to throw 6 year old slang your way to be "hip")
Why not be happy with getting lots of "reminds me of Spaced" comments? i'm guessing whoever owns the rights to "Spaced" (doesn't appear to be Pegg & Wright) pitched it to Fox, but, again, if i were Fox i'd have told them to fuck off & turned around and made my own sitcom for slackers.
i really like "Spaced" (own the UK DVDs) because they have things like a burnout raver bike messenger, which is somebody that i encounter regularly but someone in Hollywood has never experienced.
/rant>
- Awesome that Producer Ryan got the 15 year old Kids In The Hall reference!
- Another beautiful day here, how are you?
The PD green screen looked terrible in HD. It was so bad that it had to be intentional. Otherwise, the show does look great ... much different from when I watch it on the TiVo.
Is there a good online store for video gaming other than the big boxes, Target or Wal-Mart?
And I agree with the 'good riddance to Heroes Origins' sentiment. Seemed like a ridiculously cheesy idea, although I was looking forward to the Kevin Smith episode.
so trick or treating went well in my neighborhood. this was my first year living there so i didn't know what to expect. we had a good turnout, next year i'll know to be more prepared and i'll buy more candy, since i ran out. there was a group of kids that were all dressed up like they were going to the renaissance festival. overall it was successful.
Holli, you mean or purchasing games? Try newegg.com.
Plus, good old Amazon.com has an enormous game selection.

Maybe the cheerleader should have her creepy friend West scare the mean fishermen into leaving the dolphins alone.

Creed Thoughts post-Halloween highlight:
If anyone knows how to get chocolate out of hair, let me know. I fell asleep on top of forty Fun Size Milky Ways last night and now I’ve got nougat everywhere. I already tried peanut butter, but that just made my hair into a different kind of candy. I’ll make you a deal: you get it out of my hair, you get to keep it.
Admit it blogspotters. Which of you are in the same predicament?
Holli
We have got to go to Tiji and help Hayden defend the lives of those poor dolphins. On the other hand, the fishermen have a point. Why should dolphins be treated like any other fish?
Medical marijuana? I'm sure the drug companies don't want the general public to have the ability to grow their own medicine in their own back yards.
What else do I have? Stephen Colbert- he is actually running for president.
http://www.buddytv.com/articles/the-colbert-report/the-colbert-report-stephen-col-13277.aspx
Am I being too sensitive to say this offends me?
I'd vote for Colbert over all but 3 or 4 of the real presidential candidates (and certainly over either of the two boobs that ran in 2004).
First I'll say I love Colbert but it looks like he's making a mockery of the office.
Cloverfield trailer description?
CHUD reports.
I would say that, unfortunately, this election in particular seems well-deserving of mockery.
The election but not the actual position. We don't need anything/anyone bringing more shame and dishonor to the office.
Hopefully there's no way to go but up.
can we turn in all our candidates and get new ones?
Optimus Prime for President.
Yeah, let's talk about something else. I've beat this dead horse enough. This 20 lb bag of candy here is driving me mad.
mmmm... candy.
everyone all set to gain 15 pounds over the next couple of months?
drive by kablammo!
If one of our most prominant states can have the terminator as it's goveror, why can't the country have a fake new pundit as it's president? And Steph, I won't call you sensitive. But with how ridiculous politics in this country already is, I don't find this at all offensive.
Vote Quimby!
We have something like 150 pieces of candy left over, at least. I was going to drop it off in the lunch room, but that won't help me, will it?
Yesterday's Urban Dictionary WotD was 'Hollowthanksmas: the holiday season starting with Halloween and ending with New Year's Day'. So yeah, I usually gain some weight during Hollowthanksmas.
Coolest Horse Ever. Be sure to watch all the way to the end. The last minute -- amazing!
Holli
Patches is the world's laziest horse.
Why is Heather Mills all over American tv today saying she considered suicide?
The eyes are the groin of the head.
Watch out. You're going to make me spray.
...or something like that.
What's going on with the WGA strike? I'm too lazy to read.
As of yesterday, a walkout was going to be postponed 7-10 days. The Teamsters saying they would honor the picket line hopefully gets the producers back to the table to talk real turkey not tofurkey.
Holli
- Karen on Office II? she's a great straight-woman but who would bring the funny?
- The Daily Show is going to be off next week. Stewart seemed to imply that it was in anticipation of the writer's strike.
- i've seen that Patches the Horse footage before. i want to say it was part of a larger documentary, like something from Errol Morris.
Checking on the Google, couldn't figure out where i'd seen it, but did find out that Patches has reached uber-lazy status by being dead.
writers' strike.
if just one writer went on strike a character on Heroes would just end up with a severe case of laryngitis.
Strike Update. May start Monday.
Also, USA Today gave Bee Movie a D which only surprises me in that it wasn't an F. The fact that I've seen Jerry Seinfeld somewhere for the last 2 months pretty much cemented it for me that this movie would suck. I don't think Kiddo wants to go see it. At least I hope not.
Holli
South Carolina Democrats agree with Steph.
South Carolina Democrats don't think Stephen Colbert's presidential bid is all that funny. Colbert filed to get on the ballot as a Democratic candidate in his native South Carolina. His campaign paid a $2,500 filing fee just before the noon deadline today, but after about 40 minutes of discussion by top party officials, the executive council voted 13-3 to keep the host of The Colbert Report off the ballot. "He's really trying to use South Carolina Democrats as suckers so he can further a comedy routine," said Waring Howe, a member of the executive council. He will be able to get his money back.
Holli
if writers get enough scripts written, can the production film those scripts during the strike?
Not interested in Bee Movie nor Dan in Real Life. Lars and the Real Girl looks sweet.
While trick or treating, someone treated us with the stomach virus. Yay.
According to a member of the WGA:
One byproduct of a writers strike is that studios may shoot existing scripts but may not change them. So jokes can’t be fixed, lines can’t be tailored to actors, locations can’t be changed (too bad if an exterior gets rained out – you can’t move inside to a new location), and special effects have to be executed just as described (whether they’re possible or not).
Holli
If the teamsters honor the picket line and don't work, either, wouldn't that prevent anything at all from being filmed, even reality shows?
The bee movie looks terrible. I can't believe that I've been hearing about this thing for 6 months.
I'm sorry that Patches is gone. I thought that it was hilarious watching Patches drive around town, getting the beer, etc. It got a little wierd when you see Patches and the guy walking into the bedroom together.
I like how Patches moved his lips when the phone was up to them, but didn't actually talk.
So what did everyone think about Cops (Earl) and The Office? I really loved that Office. A mixture of real office stuff with the club and Michael Scott hilarity with the panty raid. Rashida Jones did a great job too.
Holli
I'm so over Bee Movie, not that I was that interested in seeing it, but they've just been bombarding us with ads. I can't stand to see Jerry Seinfeld anymore!
On the brightside, I'm waiting on Juno to come out, when does that come out? Sometime soon-ish, right?
Juno is on my must-see list too.
Hey Jordan, is Michael Clayton and in the theater movie or can I wait for the DVD?
Holli
It's interesting how unfunny Jerry Seinfeld became once Seinfeld went off the air. Actually, I guess that you could say the same thing about most of the cast, except for JLD.
Nice to see the Toledo Mud Hens have a sense of both humor and know when an opportunity has arisen.

Thanks for listening.
I don't get Seinfeld.
I mean what's the deeeeal with stand up comedy? (hilarious slap bass riff)
ugh. meeting from 10 to 12:30. meeting from 1:30 to 3:00. finally actually getting some work done. blah.
well, ok, finally blogspotting instead of getting some work done.
I feel your pain Palmer. I spent 2 hours phoning 40-50 women to try to get them to volunteer for something -- women who have not returned my email in a week. Yes, those kind of women.
Trevor this is for you especially. Everyone else is welcome to click too. Ryan Howard or Ryan Howard.
Holli
Nice! I guessed 'Ryan Howard' each time.
OK, ethical dilemma for the blogspotters. If you are offered a job, basically doing exactly the same amount of work that you are now, except that you believe it will be better for your professional development and offers a better opportunity to grow in your career; the new company is more financially stable; AND, they offer you a raise that over the first year is almost thirty percent more than you make now, and after 2 or 3 years, is probably close to 70% more than you make now ... you'd take it, right? That's a no-brainer. Now, what if taking that job requires you to basically stab in the back someone who's been decent to you ... a screwing over that will almost certainly require you to hire a lawyer and maybe even provide a large cash payment, and will absolutely turn this person and his family into your sworn enemy for life. Then what?
Also, websurfing at the new job may be a lot harder than at the old job ... so no blogspot!
That's quite a pickle, Trevor. Are you literally stabbing this person in the back? or why the lawyer/cash?
I would have to seriously thing about it. I honestly don't know which one to choose.
it's a trick question.
sell Beanie Babies & Magic The Gathering cards at local flea markets.
srsly. it's on you. if you are somewhere in your life where you are comfortable and happy then stick by your people. if you are unfulfilled in your work and the move is a step in the right direction then take that. It's important to remember that other people aren't looking after your best interests and you sometimes have to be selfish. Also, maybe there's a way to communicate your conundrum to your current associate so that there's no bad blood after the split?
for more fun facts check out your local library ;)
Trevor, pose the couch dilemma to each party and go with the one that solves it. Just kidding.
If the party of the second part wants you to engage in behavior that will require you to hire a lawyer to defend that behavior you ought to ask yourself will they screw me over in the future too. I find it hard to advise you to do something that you know in advance would not just hurt someone's feelings (like Stanley going to Utica) but would actually raise a legal issue.
And of course limiting blogspot access is a GIANT negative. Then again as Stanley eloquently stated last night there's "money."
Holli
fuck someone over and get a new job?
and you're doing ok where you are now? i'd seriously consider not fucking the dude over. you can have all the money in the world but if everyone thinks you're an asshole (including you) then you're still not going to be happy.
if you're not cool with fucking the guy over and think you can keep your current job without repercussions, let the new employer know that you'd like to find a way to take the new job without fucking the guy over.
then again... there's the money.
ultimately, it is your decision so if our advice sucks, its your fault for having listened to it. :)
Believe me, most everyone I know is getting hit up for advice! I don't have the type of job where I can just up and quit and go down the road. If I quit, my contract prohibits me from doing my job in the county I currently live in (and it's a pretty big county), so we'd have to up and leave ... or, probably, I could buy out the contract. So that's the money part. Also, my current boss used to be partners with my potential future bosses, and had an ugly falling out with them. So he'd take it real personally ... that's the back-stabbing part.
Anyway, I'm suddenly realizing that posting this much info on a public forum, even semi-anonymously, maybe ain't the greatest idea, so I'l probably stop now. Just suffice to say that I'm not really a big money-grubbing asshole ... if I was really happy with my current situation, I probably wouldn't even give leaving a second thought. I know that what it comes down to is, what's best for me. I just haven't figured out yet what that is.
Enough serious talk. No one's been able to solve the problem of the stinky couch, either. We've cleaned it dozens of times, even injecting it with cleaner into the stinky spots using a needle and syringe. We've burned up 4 or 5 odor elimination candles, too. So probably we're going to start looking for a replacement couch in the very near future. We talked about getting it reupholstered, but we're kind of thinking, if we're gonna spend that kind of money, we might as well just get a new one. Preferably one made out of cat skin.
I'm lost. I missed something.
Trev, did I hear your DVD recommendation on Scene Unseen this week? I sent one in this week and last. For some reason they didin't read mine this week. I have to think of a clever flick this time.
I haven't listened yet, but I sent a couple in. I'm glad my recs made it, those are a couple of my favorite films.
No Lost 'till 2009? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
