I don't have the type of job where I can just up and quit and go down the road. If I quit, my contract prohibits me from doing my job in the county I currently live in (and it's a pretty big county), so we'd have to up and leave ... or, probably, I could buy out the contract. So that's the money part. Also, my current boss used to be partners with my potential future bosses, and had an ugly falling out with them. So he'd take it real personally ... that's the back-stabbing part.

Anyway, I'm suddenly realizing that posting this much info on a public forum, even semi-anonymously, maybe ain't the greatest idea, so I'l probably stop now. Just suffice to say that I'm not really a big money-grubbing asshole ... if I was really happy with my current situation, I probably wouldn't even give leaving a second thought. I know that what it comes down to is, what's best for me. I just haven't figured out yet what that is.

Enough serious talk. No one's been able to solve the problem of the stinky couch, either. We've cleaned it dozens of times, even injecting it with cleaner into the stinky spots using a needle and syringe. We've burned up 4 or 5 odor elimination candles, too. So probably we're going to start looking for a replacement couch in the very near future. We talked about getting it reupholstered, but we're kind of thinking, if we're gonna spend that kind of money, we might as well just get a new one. Preferably one made out of cat skin.Trevor McFurhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17367497547181468484noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17564195.post-65692390898288635932007-11-02T14:51:00.000-07:002007-11-02T14:51:00.000-07:00fuck someone over and get a new job?and you're doi...fuck someone over and get a new job?

and you're doing ok where you are now? i'd seriously consider not fucking the dude over. you can have all the money in the world but if everyone thinks you're an asshole (including you) then you're still not going to be happy.

if you're not cool with fucking the guy over and think you can keep your current job without repercussions, let the new employer know that you'd like to find a way to take the new job without fucking the guy over.

then again... there's the money.

ultimately, it is your decision so if our advice sucks, its your fault for having listened to it. :)PalmerEldritchhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12315511118300473440noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17564195.post-62467405061988146982007-11-02T14:30:00.000-07:002007-11-02T14:30:00.000-07:00Trevor, pose the couch dilemma to each party and g...Trevor, pose the couch dilemma to each party and go with the one that solves it. Just kidding.

If the party of the second part wants you to engage in behavior that will require you to hire a lawyer to defend that behavior you ought to ask yourself will they screw me over in the future too. I find it hard to advise you to do something that you know in advance would not just hurt someone's feelings (like Stanley going to Utica) but would actually raise a legal issue.

And of course limiting blogspot access is a GIANT negative. If you are offered a job, basically doing exactly the same amount of work that you are now, except that you believe it will be better for your professional development and offers a better opportunity to grow in your career; the new company is more financially stable; AND, they offer you a raise that over the first year is almost thirty percent more than you make now, and after 2 or 3 years, is probably close to 70% more than you make now ... you'd take it, right? That's a no-brainer. Now, what if taking that job requires you to basically stab in the back someone who's been decent to you ... a screwing over that will almost certainly require you to hire a lawyer and maybe even provide a large cash payment, and will absolutely turn this person and his family into your sworn enemy for life. Then what?

Also, websurfing at the new job may be a lot harder than at the old job ... so no blogspot!Trevor McFurhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17367497547181468484noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17564195.post-30960769948460580912007-11-02T13:49:00.000-07:002007-11-02T13:49:00.000-07:00I feel your pain Palmer.
