Welcome Back Dunder Mifflin!

Post your thoughts on the Thursday night premiere of The Office & My Name is Earl!

So yeah, how hot was John Krasinski last night? I know! He always gives Peter Petrelli a run for his Dunder Mifflin money. After seeing Heroes, I was like "Jim who?", but now all those tingly butterflies came back. You know what would be awesome? Wait, nevermind.

Nooo, please do tell us, what would be so awesome?

What season is this? I gotta catch up on my Office viewing duties.

i am not a fan of the episodes where they stray too far from the office for a long amount of time.

the episode was so so for me and stevi. i sort of feel bad for dwight. he just doesnt know any better, but i also feel bad for angela.

i was hoping that the episode would start with Jim and Pam's wedding, that would have been HILARIOUS!

This episode had it's ups and downs. (TWSS)
- the opening was definitely an "Oh Shit!" moment.
- i miss Karen already. I just saw Rashida Jones on an episode of Freaks & Geeks where she played a tuff girl, and it was glorious.
- As a cat person, i felt terrible for Angela and wanted her to murder Dwight.
- i think Dwight deciding to mercy kill Sprinkles would have been much better as an on-screen moment
- i think everyone is happy that Jim & Pam aren't keeping up the secret relationship nonsense. I think the united front of Jim & Pam vs. the office is a lot more fun to watch than "will they/won't they."
- I really like Ryan as the boss. He knows what an idiot Michael is and he's forced to helplessly watch the insanity from afar. Anytime he tries to drop the hammer he's going to get burned. Just look at Jan.
- Will Meredith get a little more shine this season or was the accident a way to write her off?
- Tobey wins!
- overall, the episode was a little more "wacky"/broad than i usually like but it's good to be back.

how many of you realized it was dwight that was responsible for sprinkle's demise, before it was revealed?

For a season premiere, I thought it was pretty good. Everyone still has it going on. I don't mind Karen being gone; I never liked her that much, but mostly because she was competition for Pam.

I knew when Dwight was going to Angela's place that Sprinkles would die in one way or another, but I have to admit, putting him in the freezer was the funniest shit I'd heard in a long time. Chile Biscuit will have a mausoleum built for her when she dies, but I'd rather her outlive me, so it doesn't really matter.

Jan sprawled out on the bed face down was also one of the funniest moments.

I really liked the premiere of MNIEarl; they did a really good job with that! I also have had a secret crush on Ben Foster (what is it with me and 'Bens'?) so I was excited to see him in it.

Trevor McFur said...

So, if I don't watch The Office, is it worth it to just pick it up now & start watching, or should I rent the DVDs first to come up to speed?

aimee is lost said...

Rent the DVDs first; there's a wonderful history of nonsense, and it takes all 3 seasons to fully comprehend the wonder that is Michael Scott.

aimee is lost said...

And you need to meet Dwight's cousin Mose.

And all the times Dwight refers to Lost and/or the Dharma Initiative.

[ally] said...

There's a lot of inside jokes that you won't get unless you've seen the rest of the series. Also, it makes for some hilarious good times.

Trevor McFur said...

So maybe The Office will be my next series rental. Of course, with all the new series coming on, and the already logjammed TiVo, maybe I'll get around to it next summer...

Is it wrong to laugh at this?

Like i told Ally, i thought it was slow and i know why. Ralph hit it on the head: they strayed away from the office for too long.

Kevin was hilarious last night. I don't know why I found it so funny when he applauded after the nurse fixed Meredith's IV drip. I really liked how EVERYONE had their little moment to shine. Creed--omg, LOL!

Quote of the episode: "They not provide milk, wool, or meat." - Dwight on Cats

Anonymous said...

If you thought the show was slow or not what you are used to, uh duh. It was a 1 hr long episode. Shit that normally gets cut out was left in. If you watch the dvd's, you'll see that they cut a good amount of each episode. So much of that show is Steve Carrell riffing. In this one, as well as the next 3 eps which will also be 1 hr, they were far less picky in what made it and what didn't. I miss Rashida Jones. She was hot. And is it just me or did Pam not look up to her normal standards? Not that she looked like crap or anything. Something with her was just a bit off. Dunder-Mifflin needs a new hottie to spice things up. Anybody going to buy a rabies braclet?

Anonymous said...

I agree with Kimberley. Kevin was dang funny last night. When he was all suspicious of Jim-Pam was great. And who didn't like his PB&J revelation?! lol. My only slight complaint was not enough crazy Andy Bernard. Although the bloody nipples were a hoot. When he ran into Kevin and was all, "Watch the nipples!" Ha!

Anonymous said...

Oh, and I know the ladies are going to be dead against this line of thinking. But I don't really know if I like Jim and Pam actually together. Their whole charm was the forbidden fruit type of crush on a friend thing. Now that we know they're a couple, they just seem obnoxious. Hopefully the writers will have them try to hide things for a while like Dwight and Angela. That would be far less annoying than if it just became how things were. To me it's like when you have two friends who out of nowhere start dating. Before it was totally cool hanging out with each of them. But now it's like, "Enough already. Get a room. I'm going to the strip club. Catch you fools later."

Stephanie said...

Nothing left to say. You guys said it all. I share Aimee's sentiment about Ben Foster. He's so good. What for dinner? Nothing sounds good to me. Maybe Outback.

Anonymous said...

It wasn't her clothes or hair or makeup or anything. She looked like she was a bit heavier/sluggish looking. Maybe it was while she was recovering from her broken back? Again, she didn't look bad. Just a tad bit off.

Did anybody else out there hope that Jan and Pam would get it on and that it would start to rain?

Speaking of Jan. Is it just me or are they still playing up the her having huge fake boobs angle still. Aye carumba! Wonder if Melora Hardin actually got them done in real life?

Anonymous said...

Blades of Glory, eh. Jon Heder singlehandedly blew so hard in that movie, you could the jiz on his lips throughout the film. Will Arnett & Amy Pohler saved it from totally sucking.

Tricksy Showtime got me hooked on "Brotherhood" by putting the 1st 2 episodes on the "Dexter" DVDs. It's kind of trying hard to be The Sopranos meets The Wire, but it's got a good cast, including our Ms. Hawking as the overbearing matriarch.
now, thanks to the internets, i'm all caught up and 2 episodes into the future.

There is a new picture up on the "cloverfield" site. If you move it around a lot if says something in Japanese. comingsoon.net says this is the translation.

Thank you for checking us out! We are introducing this week's tasty one dish. Make sure you eat it cold!

* Skinless chicken breast - 2, cut in halves
* Sōmen noodles - 10 oz.
* Watercress - 1/2 cup cut into small strips
* Turnip - 1/2 cup, thinly sliced
* Shiitake Mushrooms - 1/2 cup
* Chicken stock - 1/3 cup
* Sake - 2 tbsp.
* Sugar - 1/2 tsp.
* Deep Sea Nectar - 1 pinch

In a small saucepan, stir together 1/3 cup water, chicken stock, sake, and sugar. Chill it until it becomes cold. Grill the chicken breast on both sides for about 8 minutes, and then chill. Boil the noodles for about 3 minutes, and then run under cold water until chilled. Mix the watercress, radish, and mushrooms into the sōmen. Slice the chicken thinly and arrange on top of the sōmen mix. Just before you serve, put the deep sea nectar in the sauce and pour over the noodles generously.

Trevor McFur said...

It's a close call, but, because it's the playoffs, I think that the game tix are a bit more expensive. But when you combine the new Phillies merchandise, the pre-game tailgating, parking, and the in-game chow and booze, that's a different story.

And she's back. Hey all. I watched Earl and The Office last night. I liked them both and laughed uproariously at The Office. Though I do agree that leaving The Office, especially the trip to the hospital, was not the best choice. And I wanted more Ryan. (TWKellySaid)

Best line from Earl -- "I'm going to rip your ears off and shove them up your butt so you can hear me kicking your ass."

Trevor, that Everett link had me roaring with laughter.

Happy Birthday Gillian!

I love the Japanese version of Iron Chef. I love the ridiculous translations and turns of phrase. I don't really like the Alton Brown version partially because I despise Kat Cora and was never a big Molto Mario fan either.

Here's a lovely photo of a group of toursits on Segueways (still don't know how to spell it.) Apparently touring on them is all the rage for a Saturday afternoon in Chicago.

Welcome back Holli - I await the report, how is my fair hometown doing? Hope you had a good time.

I too finally got to watch Earl and the Office and laughed often. Fave Earl line (by the Albinos) "I'm tellin' you we GOT to take back the corner of the yard by the tree!!"

Fave Office line (one of them - too many) - "I'm not superstitious, just kinda-stitious"

Happy B-day Gillian - welcome to a decade of 20s!

re: the Brewers - How strange I never noticed that either - wow I am dense. I was actually born in Milwaukee, though my parents had moved to Chicago by the time I was born - nothing like driving 90 miles while going into contractions :)
My grandfather was a Brewers fan and so I grew up wearing that logo on a hat and I STILL never noticed the MB in that logo. That's crazy!

Welcome back, Holli! Awesome picture of the Segway parade. lol. I hope you had a great time on your trip. You'll have to give us some details on how it all went.

memphish said...

The trip was great. The weather was perfect -- in the 70s maybe low 80s though very windy right by our hotel the last 2 days.

We hit Lincoln Park, both neighborhood for awesome breakfast at Toast and the zoo. We got to pet a polar bear and tiger paw without the toothy part of said animals attached. We did the architecture boat tour as suggested. We went to the Field Museum, The Museum of Science and Industry, The Shedd Aquarium and The Art Institute as well as the Lego store.

We stayed just south of the river and really enjoyed all the parks including Millenium Park with the giant silver bean.

We ate Greek (flaming cheese), pizza, French, hot dogs from a cart, steak, and had breakfast at Lou Mitchell's twice. Any place that gives you a donut hole on entering and a box of milk duds is aces in our book.

And I've only got one more load of laundry to fold and put away!

Holy crap. I never saw that in the old Brewers logo either! Crazy stuff. Like Palmer, back when I was a kid just thought they had a lame logo. Too funny. But I to this day have never liked the Milwaukee Brewers.

You might not know but the Brewers were originally, albeit for only 1 year, the Seattle Pilots. Pretty interesting story involving how Bud Selig, who is now the commish, stole the Pilots after only one year and moved them to Milwaukee.
Click here to read more.
Even though it was before my time, I always viewed them as my dad's childhood team that was stolen by Bud f'n Selig. Shady businessmen who buy teams with the sole intent to move them are pure scum in my eyes. That's right Jokelahoma. I'm looking right at you as I type this. ;)

Looking forward tonight to Heroes. Hopefully there's enough Peter Petrelli for Aimee this time.

Gillian, For sure check out The US Office. I was the same way when it first started. I loved the UK version so much, and was affraid it would ruin it. But it didn't. And it has turned into it's own entirely different show. Dare I say it might even be better???

And you all know I love LOST better than Heroes, but damn it if Heroes' wigs don't kick the collective LOST wig ass. I saw Milo today with an Emo Peter wig. Even up close Kristin couldn't tell until he showed her the lines.

Jordan said...

Don't worry MB. I could really care less. We got the Mariners soon after, so it's all good. Not like I was alive back then or anything. And the team was only around for a year. I don't like the Brewers on more of a friendly level. Plus, growing up rooting for Ken Griffey Jr and Randy Johnson was more fun than Robin Yount or Paul Molitor. JK. It does just go to show you though, that Bud Selig was a dirty scum bag way back in the 60's, way before he ever became the commish of mlb.

Looking forward to Heroes tonight. This year I have decided not to watch the NBC "next week" promos, as last year they gave away so much. So I have no clue what to expect. Anybody have any idea as to what is up with Peter wearing a symbol necklace?

This season I've accidentally given up on watching CSI: Miami. I decided to watch Journeyman instead and now I'm not even watching that. So my 9 slot is open on Monday nights.

memphish said...

It was super lame. Victim's girfriend's dad says to Horatio --"What if my daughter's next?" to which Horatio replied "We're not going to let that happen." See super lame.

There were good possibilities that I suggested. The murder was by a pool so we could have gotten blood in the water and a shark reference, or dude was shot with an arrow so I was hoping he'd say, "I guess we're looking for William Tell." But no! That was 5 minutes of my life I'll never get back.

Lost Listens To Fans?
Producers of ABC's SF series Lost told SCI FI Wire that they are heeding the feedback from fans, some of whom have fallen away from the once-smoking-hot series.
In an exclusive Internet interview to promote the upcoming season-three DVD release on Dec. 11, executive producer Carlton Cuse said producers have made decisions on which characters to highlight based in part on fan feedback.
"People asked questions about the other characters on the beach," Cuse said. "Are we ever going to learn anything about them?" In response, the writers expanded the storylines of Nikki Fernandez and Paulo (played by Kiele Sanchez and Rodrigo Santoro). "But once we did it, people were angry that we were taking time away from our main characters and giving it to Nikki and Paulo, so we listened to the fans and decided to bury them alive," Cuse added.
As for the upcoming fourth season, Cuse remained coy when asked about what fan ideas they're heeding. "Yes," Cuse said. "Got any?"
The fourth season of Lost starts Feb. 6, 2008. —Mike Szymanski

memphish said...

That's been Cuse's stand on Nikki and Paolo all along, and he's just dead freaking wrong about it. People wanted to know about Steve and Frogurt and the guy with the rash and the old guy you always see in the background, not the hot whiney couple who all of a sudden appeared out of nowhere, but hey they were there all along.

If that was how Cuse "heard" the fans then he needs his hearing checked.

Holli

elias said...

I've always maintained they shouldn't have listened to fans in the first place - as if the ensemble cast wasn't interesting enough! Some episodes only have one or two Hurley lines as it is.

Stephanie said...

Like I said earlier, sometimes doing what the people want will bite you in the butt. Or something like that.

Anonymous said...

Don't listen to the people. Most of them are fucking idiots. Especially those in certain parts of the country. ;)

PalmerEldritch said...

i'm still holding out hope for the "Jacob == Frogurt" theory.

i'm in complete agreement that we weren't looking for two randos to show up, crap all over everything, and claim that they were there all along. but they did make the best out of the situation by having Nikki play a stripper on a show starring BILLY DEE WILLIAMS and then having Pikki die horribly while buried alive. that was cool.

in other news, i finally got a haircut and ate some moose. it's good to have friends who like to shoot stuff. shoot moose, not my hair...

tonight is House and tomorrow night is Bionica Jones. looks like she'll be fighting people or some shit. could be cool. at the least, it looks like she'll be wearing a revealing workout outfit for MB.

oh. and if Cuselof really listen to the fans, then where was the Dharma Whipped Topping pit?!

Stephanie said...

I know that's you, Jordan. Don't worry. These idiots down here don't even watch tv. And if they did, they don't use computers. So there's no way their opinions would get back to the producers.

Anonymous said...

true steph. but the problem with those types is when producers and networks try to figure out how to corner that demogrpahic. (cough*cavemen*cough)

Trevor McFur said...

I tend to agree that they listen to the fans a bit too much. You're never gonna see a backstory for Frogurt and that old guy in the background, because, let's be honest, the background actors are nobodies. So if they want a background character to sep up to the plate, s/he is going to have to be someone we've never seen before. They should just tell their story, and stop worrying so much about what the fans think. If they make a major mistake, they'll hear about it. But I don't need lame dialogue by Charlie saying, "Locke said there was a lockdown last night. Maybe it had something to do with the palate drop," or, "You're the Russian guy that went through the pylons. Sayid told me about you", because people complain that you don't see the characters sharing information. And I sure as hell never need to see another Bai Ling episode because we need to have the mystery of Jack's tattoos answered.

Wow, that wasn't really meant to be such a rant...

Trevor McFur said...

Got my Phillies playoff tix for Thursday's game today. Don't know what was more jarring, the original price that I paid, or looking at the tix and realizing they put a 500% markup on them.

Don't matter, Mrs. McFur & I are taking the day off to go down early and do some pre-game partying, so a good time is guaranteed. If you watch the game, I'm in the nosebleed seats down the first base line. I'll be the drunk guy wearing the Philles gear. :)
