Cluster Nuts

Well folks. the dharmalars have hit their first major snag. thanks to iTunes 7.02 update my iPod crashed. please don't udate your iTunes with 7.02. the key to getting our podcast out to you guys is my iPod. everything revolves around it's hard drive and it got fucked big time. On top of all of that, we had a bit of a incident during the recording and i really needed to take a day off to get everything back in order. sorry for the delay, but the episode should be up early saturday afternoon.

thanks for listening.

iTunes 7.0.2 is a BAD update, unless you like being stuck in the Finnish or Japanese store with no hope of getting back to the US store, or losing your library and playlists, or not being able to sync your podcasts, or not being able to mount your iPod as a volume.

Click on my name to navigate to the Apple 7.0.2 discussion board and stick with iTunes 6.x if you can.

New Dharmalars episode coming soon.

P.S., Ben...Ralph and I will do whatever it takes to help you not suck so much.

XOXO

Sad news about your technical dificulties, because 7.0.2 actually was a godsend for me. My ipod would take like hours to sync, my playlists were wonky, and the music store was buggy.

To get out of the japanese store (it threw me to that also), go to the very bottom of the front page of itunes music store and there should be a drop down box to pick your store's country.

Anonymous said...

Haven't experienced the foreign store issue personally, but those at work who have say the drop down doesn't appear. Any attempt to change preferences results in a message saying something similar to "Only users with access to the US store may..."

Bummer.

The iPod firmware 1.2 blows, too. Mine kept freezing up and I had to revert to the previous version. Felt like I might as well get a new iPod outa this deal, so I loaded the versions back on and sent it to Apple. Got a brand new iPod 3 days later.

Ryan, i cannot live without my iTunes. is there anyway that i can download 7.0 or even iTunes 6? i dumped my iTunes last night, and my computer has been running great ever since. but i could really listen to some music while i do my ting today.

You can get 6.0.5 here:

I couldn't find 7.0

iTunes 7.0.2 is worse than being given a cheeseburger in prison, but you can't eat it with the one with which you are comfortable, and the only person you can eat it with is a psychotic freak.

So was the image of Walt just the smoke monster leading shannon to her death?

Jimmy said...

Good point Ralph (Walt being the monster).

Sorry to hear about all the shit going down. Yes, the worst thread ever. Not to worry, all will come right..
Jimmy.

I think Walt was actually astral-projecting himself to Shannon, becuase when the monster has taken other forms to appear to people, it's assumed the form of someone/something from that person's past... Jack's dad, Kate's black horse. If it were to appear to Shannon, it probably would have been Boone, or maybe her step mother... someone who would test/provoke Shannon.

I'm still not sure about Dave, but I'm leaning toward Hurley just being nuts.

i agree that moontalking walt could have been the monster. The thing that really cemented the idea in my mind was the appearance of the alter boy when he puts his finger to his lips, "shhh."

i've been having some issues with itunes & my ipod ever since i went to 7. Some MP3's reset my ipod when i try to play them. Some podcasts i download consistently do it, and i can only listen to them on my computer.

And i still can't add m4a files to my ipod or itunes library, so no listening to Dharmalars on the go.

Looking forward to the podcast, "Cost Of Living" certainly has a lot to talk about.

oh yeah. i forgot to add that it's great to hear some Oingo Boingo/Danny Elfman So-Lo tunes outside of some sort of patronizing nostalgic format.

This new iTunes version has me shopping in the Denmark store, but it does have the drop down menu, so I can at least try to find my way back to the United States.

However, when I got there, I couldn't - to save my life - find the TV Shows link anywhere in the store. It was as if it had disappeared or never existed at all.

After I finally got to it by doing a manual search, it takes this version over an hour to download the episodes, whereas the previous iTunes would download my Lost episodes in about 10-15 minutes.

Fuck 7.0! It looks nice and all, but it's got way too many issues.

andrew. being from Southern California i grew up on Boingo. I am not a huge fan of So-Lo but i do like a couple of songs from it. I am a huge fan of the earlier stuff especially "Good for your Soul". i will have to purchase good for your soul and put up Little Guns on a future episode!

Hey gang. I don't mean to beat a dead horse, but I found a great article with a bunch of links titled "iTunes 7 breaks your iPod."

Aimee, not being able to find the TV section (or other big blocks of the iTunes STORE) seem to be pretty common bug with the latest version.

Et tu Jobs?

my itunes had me shopping in france, but once i got to the u.s. everything seemed to be there. the only problem is that it won't let me download podcasts, which sucks.

i hope you get everything figured out soon. technology is so cool until it doesn't work and then it sucks.

Just backed up my 30gigs worth of music and video - am installing 7.02 now - let' see wat happens.

In other news, the temperature in the uk dropped 8degrees overnight on monday and has stayed that way ever since! god bless global warming.
Also, not unintirely Lost unrelated, i watched Saw for the first time tonight, boy, did i get a shock!
And i watched V for Vendetta earlier, and i want to start a revolution now.....

Jimmy said...

V I enjoyed, actually. Which reminds me, Tim. It's bonfire night in the old country in a few days :)

Was at a diner yesterday explaining to co workers who Guy Fawkes was. They found it all a bit macabre (burning "Guy", etc).

I installed iTunes 7.02 this morning. No problem so far. But here's a quick question...

Are you guys all using PC's? Ralph, I think is on a mac, as am I. Was wondering if this is at the heart of it.

On another note...I have spoken to 3 people already today who said they won't really miss Mr Eko, or barely care that he died? It's odd, because I feel the same way and yet am suprised that the character didn't stick any emotional attachment to me. You lot?

Anonymous said...

Jimmy, i forgot that no-one else celebrates bonfire night, that reference i made to wanting to start a revolution is not going to mean so much to non-english people, is it!?
As far as Eko goes, it was sad to see him go, but hey, as the writers have said, if you die on the island, it doesn't mean you ain't going to be on it anymore. Which puts people in their place who said they weren't satisfied with his 'conclusion' and that he has too many unfinished story arcs, why was he going to London, for example. do you think the writers would compose one of the most intelligent tv shows in years, then just leave things untold? Possibly, but not likely.

iTunes 7.02 working ok so far, by the way. However, my 2 month old video ipod is ok, and Hannah is refusing to give me her mini ipod to sync it, I may have to wait till she sleeps....

i am using a widows xp. ryan uses a mac, but he is affraid to install the update.

i currently have no iTunes, as soon as i get my calls, jimmy's piece and music onto a disc, i will be able to get the ball rolling. i will give it a shot tonight. keep your fingers crossed folks

Apparently, iTunes/iPod problems affect both Macs and PCs. My friend at work is running Tiger on his PowerBook. He was hopelessly lost in the Icelandic store with all of his money converted to Kronurs (or Euros, or whatever).
No drop down menu. No access to his account preferences ("Only those using the US store may access this section"). Huge portions of the store missing. But he now has all the Sugarcubes albums one would want, so I guess he's got that going for him.
I guess for clarification, I should state that there are two pieces of software here. iTunes, and the iPod software. Starting with iTunes version 7, both are bundled together for ease of use. iTunes is buggy; with problems with retaining libraries, playlists, and syncing correctly. The latest iPod software renders some older iPods, Shuffles, Minis, and Nanos incapable of performing basic functions.
The link posted earlier should paint a clearer picture for those concerned.

I just watched Borat. It was crazy. You could tell some of it had to be staged, but it was still really funny. And some of it was really gross. But still funny.

Sir William Osler, MD said...

You are correct, Aimee, Borat was amazing. I'm sure some of the stuff was staged (the beginning, the naked fight, the pamela anderson part), but for the most part, those are real people and real reactions......

I also love Jack's character improvement.....he's one of my favorite characters, and seeing that seen makes him more so.

Ralph- said...

yeah. i am really pleased with season 3 jack! i guess he does better as a man on his own, than when he has to act like a leader...and he is awesome crazy, instead of scary crazy

aimee is lost said...

I have to concur with the season 3 Jack opinions. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I actually want him to die less now.
