YAY! TLI!

Also, Bring Me The Horizon? Really? they're horrible, especially the lead singer Oli Sykes, son of a postman and a QVC presenter, he's a vile, horrible person. His advances towards a girl were rejected after playing a gig. He decided on revenge, so he urinated on her. In public.

Chris JC said...

I remember for a while at work a stream of questions asking if Oli from BMTH was the son of somebody in particular - and neither of those two.

And I can't for the life of me remember who is was.

t-dot kim said...

Never heard of them...picked them b/c "Flower" was in the title

Chris JC said...

Ah yes - Des Lynam.

Silly rumours are silly.

Rrb said...

James and Ralph you didn't put your self. "In the Brownie stage of mind as a viewer"...It might make a difference?

scrdmnkydst said...

Chris - I don't know if he's a son of a postman and a QVC presenter for sure, I just read it on a forum called Punktastic and they were all slating him and stuff.

Also, Kim - But they're Deathcore!?

James said...

RRB (red Rabbit Blue?)

Trust me, I jump into the brownie stage of mind any chance I can get :)

Rrb said...

And your telling me that the Fake wood around the screens was not super cool? That was the first time in my life I enjoyed GREEN SCREENE. On the third viewing of you and Ralphs hated scene I was hooked. But then again the Brownies where good.....

Rrb said...

James I thank You, Sir. When I watch episodes for the third, forth time. I still have something to learn for my time. The Music and how it co-in-sides with everything. I would have never takin a look at TV composerea if not for you. Thanks for the window of new interest:)I'll stop babbelling now

Damn blogger and it playing the stupid Lost: Untangled bullshit on the main page. My brain just lost 5 IQ pts. Grrrrr. Me no like.

Jordan said...

Thanks for the heads up 'drew. I'm hoping his touch brings back the nearly dead series to life (bad Pushing Daisies pun intended).

Just relistened to the infamous Jawyliet argument. And Aimee was still 1000% wrong. Kim, couldn't you have edited it to make her not lose so badly? lol. Great timing as well, given the new meteoric rise up the itunes charts. I'm sure a lot of the new fans will love it and be hooked. Yay for our girls. Just don't go all big time on us, ya hear? Don't forget the little people.

Rrb said...

Maybe Juliet delivering the baby"when she should not have"? made,it not possible to conceive on the island?

Rrb said...

sorry carry to turm..

memphish said...

Looking forward to listening, but first I must lay out on the beach some more. It's okay to be a hater.

Has anyone here read all of the Dark Tower books? I'm a little over 1/2 way through the final one and damn if that Lindeloff didn't steal a bunch of details from it like teleportation causing brain bleeding. Of course, thematically there's the big difference that in Dark Tower the characters understand their end game where as on LOST we and our 815ers continue to be mystified by what it might be.

I assumed that Locke, Ben, Sayid, Sun, Frank are in the present with Jack, Kate and Hurley in 1974.

Stephanie said...

Aimee, I hope you've lawyered up.

PalmerEldritch said...

mebbe the baby being born in 1977 is nothing noteworthy other than that whatever is stopping people from having babies hadn't happened yet.

also, Alpy's recruitment of Juliet back in "Not In Portland" made it seem like there was a problem that affected the woman's plumbing which then led to fertility issues. a notion not supported in any other episode of LOST.

and maybe Amy and Horace banged on the submarine on a trip to Tahiti?

Stephanie said...

Oh ok. Not 1974 but 1977: three years later.

I like Sawyer and Juliet together. If it matters.

scrdmnkydst said...

Aimee's rant = MENTAL

scrdmnkydst said...

I'd forgotten how ridiculous this rant was.

Stephanie said...

I keep having to turn my iPod down.

Chris JC said...

I think the vagina talk in the new TLI is the antidote to the last post's discourse about The Blunis.

mb said...

just finished listening

Wow - Kyle keeps topping himself. f-in hilarious.

Aimee's rant was most excellent to sit back and listen to. That's podcast gold right there (regardless of whether the reasoning was sound or not) - lmfao

Chris JC said...

I'm of the opinion that the cute Sawyer/Juliet kiss does hint at a very loving ongoing relationship, maybe not as hot n' heavy as it once was, but that they now have genuine love and stuff.

And heck, they were still snogging when the camera cut away so it's entirely possible that Juliet was the dinner after all.

t-dot kim said...

Well...she WAS on Xanax, thanks (or no thanks depending on what your stance on Rx drugs :P) to her unfortunate car accident.

mb said...

Also listened to the Transmission yesterday and am loving their Sawyer/Juliet name "FORKER" as much as 'FURKER'. which one to go with....?

Chris JC said...

FORKER is a fairer division of letters, but FURKER sounds better.

I think Ben's been edged out of my current top three male LOST characters, which currently stand - in no apparent order - as:

Locke
Sawyer
Richard Alpert

Oh yeeeeeeeeeeah.

mb said...

oop - thanks Palmer!

yes that makes sense. we haven't SEEN any evidence of birthing problems b4 this time on the island, have we?

Jordan said...

Just saw Watchmen. I'm siding with the UK blokes on the blunis issue. What is wrong with you puritans? I barely noticed it. I almost felt let down. That was NOTHING. Maybe I'm just not wired to look at that region on a man? Cuz I sure as shit noticed the hell out of Silk Spectre's boobies. :P

As for the flick, I liked it. Wasn't anything groundbreaking or revolutionary. But for what it was, I thought it was pretty good. Having read the book, I wonder how much is lost on one who hasn't. I'm sure people who haven't read it didn't feel that they missed much at all. But there was a ton of subtleties I picked up on, that I know I wouldn't have. Also, a good deal of the story is skimmed over very quickly in montages and brief flashbacks. Had to be that way, I know. As the movie would've been about 7 hours long otherwise. Still prob lessened the impact in certain instances. As for the ending. One major plot device was changed from the book. And I think it was probably for the better. It was the one part of the book I thought really wouldn't translate to the screen. What do you guys think? Oh, and I thought that Rorschach, Nite Owl, and the Comedian were cast really well. Rorschach almost perfectly.

Jordan said...

One more thing. Before seeing the movie, I wondered if reading the book before would add or take away from the movie going experience. After seeing it, I think it added much, much more. Besides being able to pick up on all the subtleties. From a strictly storytelling standpoint, the book obviously is far superior. The movie was very heavy handed in certain instances. For example, it's a whole lot more obvious who the villian is. You can pretty much tell the instant you see him/her/it. Same with a couple other revelations.

Oh my god. I'm one of those pretentious "the book was better" people that I can't stand! Oh the shame.

Jordan said...

What I meant to say was I wondered what would be the preferred "first time" experience for the story. The book or movie. And I stand by the book. Not being a comic book nerd whatsoever. Movie still good though. Although I can see how certain viewers might hate it.

Aimee, I too mourned the passing of my 20's at age 29. The 30th birthday was no big deal. Enjoy it. 40 is the new 20. So, 30 is the new 16.

mb said...

Let me second Jimmy's statement. It's all really good.

Jimmy said...

Totally...everybody seems to really, really enjoy their 30's. You seem to find your stride, and most people seem to find their personal style too!

JonFromNKY said...

#1 Jimmy: You're 42? Holy shit. You age well.

#2 Jordan: I didn't read the book, but I read about the characters online, and about the original ending after the fact. I believe that the original may have been too much for the general audience to wrap it's mind around (or at least what I know of it from what I've read about it over the last 2 days).

#3 Ralph: Give her hell. Kate is a crazy bitch who, like most women, only wants what she can't have. May I remind everyone of season 4 when she jumped between Sawyer and Jack every other episode. The hell with her. She doesn't deserve a either Jack or Sawyer period. The character is a psycho who would commit cold blooded murder for her own satisfaction,,, not to benefit her mother.

mb said...

"You seem to find your stride"

man - I was actually going to use those words. Great minds - lol

To answer someone's question...I think Amy's baby is special and I think it's Desmond. Probably the last baby born on the island plus other things that I can't think of that make him special. Who else could it be? Don't we know (at least some) details about every other male semi-main character's parents? I could be wrong, I didn't put too much thought into this.

Just starting to listen to TLI. Looking forward to Aimee on Xanax. Wish I had some Xanax. I'm having to settle for white wine.

But as for actual LOST talk, I had on oh shit that's it moment listening to Lostcasts. There's a war coming and you need to be on the Island. Widmore is talking about this period with DI and the Hostiles! That's the war. Duh! Only problem, we think Locke is in 2007/8. The Losties are there to head off the Purge or at least the ascendency of Ben. Because Alpert wants to annoint Locke. Locke needs to get back the 70s/80s and fast and leave that bug-eyed Ben behind in the 21st century.

Holli

memphish said...

OMG, the Aimee rant is cracking me up and making me think Xanax = crack. Aimee's rant is so hilariously one-sided. Kate is Sawyer's soul mate, but hell, she's been boning Jack on and off for 3 years, and tells Locke screw off I'm not going back even if Sawyer dies. Sawyer might have loved Kate, but I never saw that Kate loved Sawyer except for her actually sleeping with him and doing his errand 3 years later. Though at least Kate tells Sawyer shit about herself that she totally won't tell Jack. She has to be all "good" for Jack which is utter nonsense. If Smokey took out Kate on the way to Othersville, it would be, as Martha Stewart says, a good thing.

Holli

memphish said...

One final whatever that word is that's the quadrangle. Kate had her chance to play house with Sawyer and passed. Juliet was the wise one who took the offer.

- Holli, i've subscribed to this no-paradox thing and i don't think Locke can prevent the purge. I don't think there is a scenario where Dharma survives, but it could work if the Losties instead were to limit the extent of the battle. For instance, if Richard Alpert or Ben planned on blowing up Jughead, which could maybe trigger a global nuclear war among super powers, but the losties manage to contain the fight to flaming arrows and gas canisters.

- i just started a Watchmen thread on the message board to discuss with spoilers.

scrdmnkydst said...

Ok. I've just got back from seeing Watchmen.

It was shite. And the way everyone has been going on about the penis, i thought it would be there all the time... but it wasn't. How bitterly disappointing.

I need those 163 minutes back.

scrdmnkydst said...

Why does this song always remind me of Kim and Aimee? Something about Hoes... and I don't think he's singing about gardening...

Also. Twilight Princess is as good as I remember. Waggle waggle waggle.

Chris JC said...

The wolf bits are excellent.

And that's not a phrase I tend to use often.

Jordan said...

MB, Not only are most 14 year old J&J fans unlikely to get any Paul Anka references. Same prob goes for much of the TLI/Dharmalars crowd. Only reason I really know of him is because he did a cover album a couple years ago where he covered Smells Like Teen Spirit and other more contemporary rock songs.

Kyle O'Locke is pretty much on the money about J&J listeners. But that's about it for me. I think I'm in the big time minority here. Don't understand the hype at all.

/Trying really hard not to make a joke about Herlihy being disappointed at the lack of cock in Watchmen

scrdmnkydst said...

The wolf bits are lame and underutilised.

Also, I'd like for one iteration of Zelda where after three temples, Epona doesn't become useless.

Jordan said...

Forgot to make the obligatory joke tanning joke when linking to that Paul Anka video. Looks like somebody has been hanging out with George Hamilton on the weekends.

scrdmnkydst said...

The way everyone made it seem was like there were massive blue erections on screen every 5 minutes. Having not read the graphic novel, i didn't know what to expect.

Also, Smells Like Teen Spirit is so overrated. Almost as much as Mr. Brightside. If I have to hear them in a club one more time I'm going to go postal, Uwe Boll-style.

/who's paul anka?
//enough video game references for one day.

andrew. said...

Zelda is my favorite video game series. I will buy the system just to play the games. Twilight Princess was okay (I had the gamecube version), but I ended up treating it more like work than play, rushing through it as fast as i could. I ended up beating it within a week and then getting most of my money back selling it on E-bay. My favorites are the 1st one, Ocarina Of Time, Windwaker and Phantom Hourglass. Is there a new Wii game in development?

I was really into Metroid too until they switched to the 1st person perspective, then i couldn't stand them.

Chris JC said...

There is ALWAYS a new Mario and Zelda game in development. The paths they go down may not always lead to finished games, but the development cycle of either series is a constantly going concern.

Jordan said...

How dare you talk bad about Nirvana. You don't get the right if you were 3 years old when they were popular.

Agree about the cockage in Watchmen. It was a lot less than I was expecting. Especially given the reactions of some on here. It was the right amount IMO. Any more and it would have been distracting. Any less and the hardcore fans would've complained about it not being like the book. Seriously though. There was 10 times more cock in the single scenes from each of Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Walk Hard.

scrdmnkydst said...

Just like I can't slate The Beatles? "you weren't born then, you don't understand" "I understand that they're boring as fuck"

Didn't Miyamoto say that the next Zelda was going to be more Majora's Mask than Ocarina Of Time? Which is great because MM is blatantly the best 3D zelda.

Chris JC said...

It's certainly my favourite, although saying it's the best is probably beyond either of us.

Jordan's approach to music criticism is the same reason I don't criticise the work of Captain & Tennille.

I mean - I *think* they're an utterly appalling waste of time, but I'm probably wrong.

I like Nirvana.

scrdmnkydst said...

No, it's actually the best. Astounding concepts, really dark and one of the best video games ever.

I thought I was the one who did Music criticism. I do it for our student paper and everything.

Jordan said...

"Jordan's approach to music criticism is the same reason I don't criticise the work of Captain & Tennille."

Who said that's my approach to music criticism? All I did was tell some snooty British kid that he doesn't know what he's talking about when it comes to one particular band. A band keep in mind, that was insanely popular when I was growing up who also was from the city in which I live. And I wasn't telling him he isn't allowed to dislike the music. Different strokes to different folks. But he chose to use the intendedly controversial "O" word and go on comparing one of the most influential and popular bands of it's time to the friggin Killers. So don't go painting me into some convenient agism nonsense. Although if we were to continue that particular conversation. I would say that I think there is something to experieencing music during it's time of influence as opposed to simply listening to it in a different world and time. But again, wasn't my point.

Jordan said...

And MB is right. It's all subjective. Exactly the reason I think arguing musical tastes is stupid. And why I took offense (even if jovially, as I was) to some kid saying a popular band before his time was overrated. Excuse me, I need to go find some older people to tell them how overrated Elvis is.

t-dot kim said...

Speaking of all this great music, I'm going to see Britney Spears right here in Toronto next Thursday!

Chris JC said...

"I would say that I think there is something to experieencing music during it's time of influence as opposed to simply listening to it in a different world and time."

I agree with that totally. But as for the O word: fuck, man - ALL bands are over-rated. That's kinda the point. They're just a bunch of people playing some tunes and to some folks it means the world and to other folks it means sod all. So hey - we're ALL right.

Sorry, Jordan, I can't help getting stuck in when you get a bee in your bonnet as I do find it quite amusing. Kindly accept my apologies - I will now stop after reassuring you that I wasn't being a tosser with that Albinoni reference. That's a genuinely beautiful ageless piece of music.

PalmerEldritch said...

"Speaking of all this great music, I'm going to see Britney Spears right here in Toronto next Thursday!"

you have our sincere condolences.

John V. Holder III said...

I don't really think being in the single digits age-wise when an album comes out qualifies it as being in "your time." But, they definitely won't hold any massive vigils when the Killers guy blows his head off. Nirvana was important, that's a fact. How 'good' they are is indeed subjective.

And I'm going to see Elton John and Billy Joel this weekend. Pretty excited. Kind of have to see this before they stop touring.

scrdmnkydst said...

I love making Jordan rant.

There's a band that's really popular where I grew up, The Cribs, doesn't mean I have to buy into their hype and stuff. Yeah, I called Nirvana overrated. They are, they've got, what, three half decent songs? Then you've got all these kids calling themselves Kurdt cos they think he was a deity and that he was murdered as part of some massive conspiracy theory, praying to the music like it's aural ambrosia. Then when I listen to the stuff, it's barely coherent and shit.

I in no sense compared them to The Killers, I just said that if I had to listen to them while in a club again, I'd go postal. Not an ounce of comparison... It's not my fault you're too old to go clubbing Jordan.

Also, I'm not a kid, I'm 21. I'm well old me. And I'm sort of mature too.

Chris JC said...

Ooh look - clouds!

Jordan said...

;)

James said...

ChrisJC,

how funny that I was listening to Albinoni on my way in on the bus this morning:) Absolutely true!

Gentleman (notice I didn't refer to anyone as a kid)...music is completely utterly subjective. It connects to some en mass, to others selectively. The subtlest of difference between a series of chords that sound nearly identical can make one person turn the dial, another feel deeply connected. That't what makes music magical...that's why it is an industry, and that's also why we are currently observing some flame war on the blog (again). No one is wrong here. Chris mentioned that ALL bands are overated, and frankly I couldn't agree more (with the general point).

John V. Holder III said...

I'm gonna think of the top 5 shows I would see if I could Alpert it to any moment in time. Woodstock would be on the list, but I don't want to include festivals.

Chris JC said...

MB, I'd love to get into that joke with you, but it's clearly gone too far, although that WAS very funny.

I like Billy Joel - even the slow ones like Lullaby (Goodnight My Angel) which is very far from being a cool popular choice.

scrdmnkydst said...

Sorry, I wasn't flaming. I was just arguing my point. Something of which I'm prone to doing.

mb said...

Oooh - good list idea Holder. Lemme think of mine....

Chris JC said...

Both you and Jordan seem happy to argue your point.

I'm happy to make flippant comments off the back of these arguments which I'm sure is just as irritating, so allow me to apologise to everyone and remind everyone that still my favourite band is Extreme - a band I'm utterly used to people finding lame and irrelevant.

Good live, though.

scrdmnkydst said...

Extreme sound well brutal. In a good way. It sounds like an effective band name.

My favourite band? Erm... I don't know if I have a favourite band... I suppose Delays would be. But they seem to be utterly irrelevant as no one seems to be listening to them and they keep getting dropped from Labels... bad times.

Good live, though.

Jordan said...

Herlihy, You're hilarious. You don't read sarcasm too well. Not only was my "ignore" comment meant to be taken jovially. But my initial comment about all this music nonsense was meant as a joke. How bout this Ryan. From now on, take nothing I saw seriously. EVER. The waste of time this has been is beyond absurd.

I agree 1000% with MB and Jimmy. Musical is entirely subjective!

scrdmnkydst said...

Boobs or bacon. You can only have one to enjoy for the rest of eternity. Which do you choose?

Holder

"The Band"

Nice choice :)

I also say boobs. One request - can there be one pair of boobs in the world that are actually made of bacon? Then my life's mission could be to find this elusive pair of bacon boobs. Win/win.

And thanks James...they were almost #1. Have you seen The Last Waltz? Awesome.

Alright - a top 5 shows list is next to impossible and I'm sure I'll think of 20 more mentions as soon as I hit "post"

Since orchestral/chamber music is on my mind, I mixed some in:

- Any show from Genesis "The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway tour

- Premieres of Holst's "The Planets" or Stravinski's "The Rite of Spring" (impossible to choose if the choice was presented)

- ON the roof for the Beatles "Let it Be".

- Any Michael Hedges show (to be truthful I've seen him once - but since he's dead, he gets on my list)

- Jimi Hendrix in Grenwich Village before the Jimi Hendrix Experience. (not that I'd refuse tix to an Experience show).

"can there be one pair of boobs in the world that are actually made of bacon?"

lol!

although - I think that visual pretty much cancels out the attraction of boobs for me

5 Concerts I'd like to have attended (order kind of irrelevant):
1. Bad Brains circa 1981
2. John Coltrane & Pharoah Sanders circa 1965
3. Love Cry Want - June 1972Lafayette Park, Washington DC. Richard Nixon purportedly demanded that the plug be pulled because he was afraid the music would "levitate the White House"
4. Fela Kuti circa 1972 at the Kalakuta Republic
5. James Brown in Boston on April 5, 1968, a concert that some say prevented widespread rioting after the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr.
6. Britney Spears with an inebriated T-dot Kim :P

surely the bacon-bra (slightly-NSFW) has been posted on the blogspot before?!

Oh Andrew - that JB show almost made my list. Right on!

mb said...

WOW

that has got to be a funky feeling bra to wear.

(for a woman - for me...ANY bra would be a tad funky feeling)

I love "The Last Waltz". Even my guiltiest of pleasures(Neil Diamond) makes an appearance.

Neil Young singing with a dusting of coke still on his nose is a sight to behold. I also love the fact that the film in many ways influenced "This is Spinal Tap". Not only is the Last Waltz and amazing piece of film, it also demonstrates the whole "all bands are overated" statement that we covered earlier.

Stick it in your queue!

John V. Holder III said...

Yeah, that JB show definitely prevented rioting. I actually just wrote an essay on that situation. Nice choice.

A bra of bacon. A Bracon.

The Last Waltz is a good film. Agreeded.

I got nothing on Watchmen or the music debate nor a softball team or car name, but I do have:

an adorable animal photo and

birthday reminder for a blogspot favorite.

Our local town hall is haunted. It's a night mayor.

We need a new thread. Chris just broke this one with that terrible joke.

Sorry to reopen the thread, but I just needed one last comment...

Finally had a chance to listen to TLI. Excellent show as usual guys! Aimme's rant was one for the highlight reel.

Aimee... I dub thy car "The Black Rock"!

Kyle from KY... If you need a name for a softball team, I don't think you can get much more appropriate than "The Jesus Sticks"!

Great show ladies. Enjoy the week off!
