Nice job K&A!!

Couldn't help but notice what was in 14th place. :,(

Didn't see Watchmen last night. But I did see this version.

Darryl Cunningham said...

Very well done.

andrew. said...

- ha ha, thanks for that Watchmen link mr. McFur. That was awesome.

Ralph- said...

remember, it isn't about your standings in iTunes, it's about SQUASHING generally speaking. Congrats Ladies!

scrdmnkydst said...

how many listeners does this equate to exactly?

Chris JC said...

Watchmen.

Rorschach's mask?

AMAZING.

mb said...

Damn Ladies - nice work!

mb said...

Damn as in "wow" :)

PalmerEldritch said...

the further i'm removed from the Watchmen movie, the more i like it. absence makes the heart grow fonder and what not, perhaps. either that or absinthe does.

and, lovely ladies of The Lost Initiative, you're welcome.

:p

thanks go out to you two for doing a show we love. we appreciate you both. even though aimee went on a crazy Xanax fueled tirade in the last recording. :)

mb said...

exactly Chris - thanks!

mb said...

Can u imagine the non-Xanax version?

Oooooh...all this stuff is cool, but makes me uncomfortable to know this. I'd rather not know "the numbers" (lol)

I like thinking that we have the 12 ppl that post here are our only listeners :)

t-dot kim said...

Well...the only 12 that matter

xoxo

aimee is lost said...

Yeah, I like to just enjoy the ride & not think about the numbers. But if we beat the official Grey's Anatomy, that's gotta be what, like 25 downloads, right?

Glad that Seattle Jimmy is joining the team; he always keeps an eye on the numbers. He's the one that actually texted me last night & told me we were #10. When I got home we were #9.

And Ralph, you're absolutely right. Squashing GSPN is all that matters. Suck it Rev!

P.S. It's 69 days till I leave Arkansas.

No pressure.

You have to remember that my REAL job is all about watching numbers, patterns etc.

Since watching Watchmen my new favorite word is Hallelujah! It seems to apply here as well. So

Hallelujah!

Also someone call the Kablamo! Police :)

James said...

Wow...

PalmerEldritch said...

i think you broke the blogspot with that revelation about jimmy.

andrew. said...

- we may need a whole new post to move past that. :)

- saw Watchmen last night. I still contend that, as a study in comic book formalism, it should never have been adapted to film but, some of the acting aside, it wasn't bad. I liked Patrick Wilson (NiteOwl), papa Winchester (Comedian), Billy Crudup (Dr. Manhattan) & Jackie Earle Haley (Rorschach).

- Give the losties Dharma jobs:
Jack: shark tank cleaner
Hurley: Stockboy for all of the stations
Kate: Welcome party (she lai's everyone, get it? hur hur) or nanny

- Daylight-Saving hangover.

Watchmen was good but there was 80% too much CGI blue penis for my taste. 70% would've been perfect.

scrdmnkydst said...

It's only a penis... I don't see the issue.

PalmerEldritch said...

dr manhattan walks around nekkid most of the time.

you would too if you had abs like that.

JonFromNKY said...

Watchmen? I was talking about an outtake from The Smurfs Christmas special

Stephanie said...

ryan, it's just the fact that it's a lot of penis onscreen. It's rather distracting.

PalmerEldritch said...

"smurf it, you dirty little smurf."

The dirtiest thing ever said on the Smurfs: "Smurf me up the smurf you smurfing smurfer."

Hey Everyone... I know most of you don't follow TV ratings, but after some low numbers to start the year, LOST is starting to DOMINATE!!!

From Neilsen Ratings:

“Lost” (9:00-10:00 p.m.)

Catapulting from its lead-in by 5.8 million viewers and by 200% in young adults and gaining audience from start to finish, ABC’s “Lost” won the 9 o’clock hour, defeating second-place Fox’s “Idol”-driven “Lie to Me” by its biggest margins yet in both Total Viewers (+4% - 10.6 million vs. 10.2 million) and Adults 18-49 (+33% - 4.8/12 vs. 3.6/9).

ABC’s “Lost” registered its 7th week in a row as Wednesday’s No. 1 scripted TV show in Adults 18-49. The ABC drama was also the evening’s highest-rated scripted show in the other two key Adult demos: Adults 18-34 (4.5/13) and Adults 25-54 (5.2/12).

“Lost” surged week to week by 5% in Total Viewers and by 9% in Adults 18-49 (2/25/09 = 1.01 million and 4.4/11).

Kim and Aimee, I don't think your meteoric rise up the iTunes charts is even close to peaking!

After all the fuss about "The Blunis" I was amazed by how little of a deal it is. Most of the time I was barely aware of it, there was no difference in skin tone and he had no radioactive pubes to highlight the area so it just merged into the rest of him.

The score... bit "Blade Runner" in places, non?

John V. Holder III said...

I just feel like frontal male nudity is put into movies for shock value and unless it is supposed to be funny I don't get the point. It took me away from what was happening on-screen because then I was looking for the damn thing. Ultimately, who cares...I was just like 'why?' And the sex scene was a little strange...the orgasmic fireball was a good moment though.

On another note, the woman on the ODI makes me want to punch things. Why do I listen to this?

Jordan said...

I'm looking forward to seeing the movie. Mainly for the flick itself. But am also now interested to see this penis that is so much the topic du jour on the blog of late. I want to be able to either tell Chris & Herlihy that the comments are justified, or the rest that they are making a big deal about nothing. It's interesting especially when you consider the difference in perception of sexuality and nudity in the USofA as opposed to EuroDisneyLand.

Chris JC said...

I suppose that is a part of it but you must consider the case of Walk Hard.

Before Walk Hard reached the UK I had heard endlessly of its infamous penis appearance and assumed that it was a Very Specific Portion of Americans (by no means ALL Americans) getting a bit puritanical about stuff but when it came here, we weren't exactly offended but reviews couldn't help mentioning it and when John C Reilly did a "60 Seconds" interview with free newspaper Metro, about two or three questions were dedicated to The Penis. Reilly was clearly nonplussed at this attitude. ("Yes, but I'm not actually *touching* it" etc). In the UK we act like we're all European and shit but we really are the most easily shocked and offended reactionary nation of the entire continent (barring, perhaps, Ireland).

The nudity happens in the Watchmen film because it happened in the comic - it's as simple as that. If he'd always been drawn with the loincloth in the comic then he would have always had one on in the film.

The impression I got from Manhattan is that he no longer has any feeling of embarrassment about himself and only covers himself to save the embarrassment of either (wearing a suit on television or at a funeral, and the loincloth when first demonstrating his powers, interacting with his more staid first girlfriend and meeting the other heroes for the first time). After that he's happily nude when doing stuff in his lab and around people he already knows.

I think you'll fall into the "no big deal" camp, Jordan - but I have to say, I don't think anyone here has been offended by it. Surprised certainly, but nothing more, but that's more to do with decades of what to expect in a big studio movie (noting the lack of comment regarding Silk Spectre's breast in the Hallelujah Scene) and not rather than any of us as individuals especially as most of us have at some point either had penises or encountered real ones. Either way, I've enjoyed the subject getting an airing.

With all this and with the Grand Theft Auto IV add-on "The Lost and Damned" also featuring full frontal male nudity, I think we've reached a kind of "penis amnesty", possibly setting in motion the chain of events which will eventually erode the sexist double standard of portrayals of nudity. We're changing the world here, people. It's a good thing.

Okay, I'll confess to a slight giggle when Doctor Manhattan walks up some stairs near the end and there's some wiggle, but beyond that it just stayed out of the way. The most distracting thing about it was the LACK of movement in the thing.

So, come on - wasn't Rorschach's mask incredible? I think that must have been where the budget allocated to Blunis Wiggle must have gone.

PalmerEldritch said...

dont fret about the Blunis. he's just putting the Man back in Dr Manhattan.

good to hear Jimmy on my iPod this morning. really looking forward to his first show for TLI. :)

JonFromNKY said...

There were things in the movie I found a lot more disturbing than the blunis. It was just worth commenting on for the comedic aspect.

Without getting too spoilery for those here who haven't seen the movie yet, there was plenty of other things in the movie that gave me the creeps.

PalmerEldritch said...

indeed. a lot of that movie is fucked up.

i don't get to go again until the ladyfriend has finished the graphic novel though. :(

Sorry to mention ThEmIsFiTiShErE again but he's just come up with the best Sayer/Juliet 'shipper name.

Hey guys...

Good news/Bad News....

Good news, the podcast is finished--it's been finished since Sun afternoon

Bad news, I can't upload it to our server. Something's jacked up at Switchpod. I'm waiting on an email from them to tell me wtf is going on

Chris JC said...

The FIENDS! Can't you stick it on YouSendIt for us faithful fans? ;)

Jordan said...

Chris makes an interesting point that it seems that movies and popular culture seem to be going with the whole male frontal nudity a lot more than in the past. In addition to Walk Hard this past year, you also had an entire scene in Forgetting Sarah Marshall where Jason Segel was more than comfortable in going full dong.

Funny story about that. I took a chick on a first date to see that movie. And afterward she couldn't stop talking about how graphic and appalling it was. I was like, "really?" Suffice it to say, the relationship didn't work out.

And without yet seeing the film, I'm sure the Doc Manhattan cock scenes were in no way meant to be for shock value. Simply trying to be faithful to the comic.

Oh, and I heard a rumor on the blog at my Kath & Kim fan site that there might be a new TLI sometime today. Fingers crossed.

Jordan said...

Way to go and ruin my Kath and Kim joke, Tdot. Posting while I was typing.

There were there for cock value.
