Well, I guess that makes me FIRST!

After having an iPod for over a year (and in fact, now being on my second, massively bigger one) I've finally discovered the joys of "Manually Manage Music" - filling up the 'pod but not my hard drive. EXCELLENT.

Alirio said...

I'm really second, but fell like I'm in third....

:-(

scrdmnkydst said...

Manually managed iPods are good. But when you've got loads of podcasts and you need to put one new episode on... it's a bit of a pain.

Although i hear that iTunes 8.0 fixes that problem... I'm not sure though.

Stephanie said...

I've always manually managed my iPod. I hated when podcasts were deleted before I could finish them. I have no problems at all.
Life on Mars- American version still with British music. I was worried we would only get disco.

Jordan said...

I've read that the US Life on Mars is pretty well done and compares well with the UK original. Still though, I feel I should watch the original first. For whatever reason, I feel dirty watching a remake before the original.

Chris JC said...

I was worried about having to go through podcasts to work out which ones I hadn't put on but if you select all and drag, it only copies the new ones.

Deleting stuff I had ripped from CDs netted me an extra 15gb of hard drive space and they are still on the pod. This cheers me, it's almost like having a proper sensible drag and drop MP3 player.

Burger Day, people. Burger Day.

what are you all doing for lunch? UKers, what DID you have for lunch?

has anyone ever seen Matthew Fox's old show "Haunted?"

saw twenty minutes the other day. lots of Jack-isms in Matthew Fox's Frank Taylor, PI.

Aaaaaaaaaaw. Cute. Especially once he trains it to kill all those who dare oppose him.

Chris JC said...

As I had not had breakfast and was already head first in a computer doing my job and trying to find out who was in the first Orange Film Board commercial, my wife made me a PB+J* sandwich. Very nice.

that's "J" for "Jam", obviously.

PalmerEldritch said...

about as well as you can nail a peanut butter and jelly sandwich to the wall, chris.

which is to say that you'd need to lay the wall down horizontally first.

/surprised you guys didnt find a way to put U into the word :p

PalmerEldritch said...

oh! steph, alirio, and kim: nice job on the podcast. very entertaining.

Chris JC said...

Can I argue that all those "u"s were taken OUT of words, not put in by us?

In fact, I know exactly who did it:

It was Noah Webster.

He changed all the spellings and turned them into a dictionary so that he could create a standard American English spelling.

For years I thought that the spellings had occurred naturally over a couple of hundred years, like they have a habit of doing, but not so: it's all by that guy so he could sell his book.

That's solid capitalism right there!

It's Jordan's Bday?!? Happy day man!

I started watching NBC's Life on Mars and was liking it, but then suddenly had the need to stop down and watch the original - if I don't at least watch SOME of the orignal first, it will feel like a missed opportunity to see the original with fresh eyes. I have about 8 eps from BBC America on the DVR so I watched one - good stuff. I think I'll watch at least a few more b4 launching into the remake, though I will say I liked what I saw. After watching both - seems like the casting was good, even if the characters are DIRECT transplants (no real deviation), I thought they all pretty much worked.

Now must check out Herlihy's Who/Torchwood news

alirio, ralph's vote had NOTHING to do with Arnold's rise to power. he became a king by his own hand. but that is another story...

Chris JC said...

What Arnie-related date are you talking about? I've been too busy to listen to Metrobuzz.

I just assumed it was Judgment Day.

I went to a friend's house on August 29 1997 and while I was walking over that way listening to the radio someone called in and mentioned that it was Judgment Day. That cheered me up as I'd completely managed to miss it.

You could, of course, be talking about something else.

Hey everyone. Can I ask a iPod question? is it possible to backtrack :)

Does anyone find that When you plug your iPod in sometimes it will say podcasts are missing? even if you just downloaded them a second ago. I guess it hasn't done that since the update but my iTunes would always lose my new podcasts. Just wondered if anyone else had some missing podcasts they wanted back.

GO SOX!!!

Chris JC said...

Mr. Bill - Ideal is well received by friends of mine, though I havent given it much of a chance. It's more a comedy drama than a sitcom.

If you want weird, dark Brit comedy, I think my fellow SAS Blog countrymen will agree that a good move would be to put the following three words into YouTube:

chris morris jam

Mike - I've not encountered that problem. I've had the podcasts menu be totally blank before though.

So I can vote as early as this Wednesday. Is there some media v-chip you can insert to screen out all political references once you have voted? I'm still waiting for NPR to develop a product that ends you having to listen to pledge once your check has cleared. Can someone please invent these products?

man, season 1 was a damned good season.

memphish said...

I always forget about LOST on Sci Fi. Does it have those annoying pop-ups?

I'm still trying to catch up on the stuff on my DVR from last week. For some reason I'm more interested in cheesy Bravo shows than anything else. I just watched Housewives of Atlanta, and OMG! The wife of some NBA guy wants to hire 8 people to run her household. I never watched Orange County, but damn, these women make the NYC bunch look very, very tame.

I've also got Dexter on DVD from Netflix and am trying to find time for it. Each episode is almost an hour. Frankly it makes me miss the broadcast 42 minutes. And then I still have to finish catching up on BSG.

I need someone to pay me to watch TV and do all the other things I need to do. Maybe those Atlanta women will hire me.

Holli

PalmerEldritch said...

no annoying pop-ups.

but it does have Sayid asking Boone permission to bone Shannon. that was weird.

i'm six episodes into Mad Men. gotta wait for netflix to send the next six or so. interesting show so far.

andrew. said...

- i haven't watched any of the Lost rebroadcasts. I think i'm kind of allergic to the Sci-Fi channel, plus, even though i love factoids, the pop-up episodes on ABC last year did nothing for me. I have been meaning to rewatch Season 1 on DVD though. I've heard a couple fo podcasts mention episodes, like Charlie getting strung up, and my thought was, 'that WAS season 1, wasn't it?"

- i marathoned all of "It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia" and i really liked it. From afar, it just looks like a show about shock humor and one-upping bad taste moments, but its better than that. There's a nice continuity to the show and great performances by the main cast (some of the supporting cast goes a little broad)

- went ahead and deleted "Sons Of Anarchy" from the DVR. I watched the first 3 episodes, and then found myself with zero interest in continuing. I love Ron Perlman and Katie Segal, but they're just not enough.

- I would delete "The Shield" because i think this season is complete shit, but its the last season and i want to see the show's conclusion.

- I'm still really enjoying "True Blood." The internet seems to hate it, but it's one of the shows that i look forward to the most.

i had a long discussion with one of my friends about whether or not Christina Hendricks was wearing prosthetics to enhance her figure. I just remembered her being very petite in Firefly, and with the beautiful job that Mad Men's make-up department did with Peggy in season one, i figured it was possible. I figure there probably is some corset work, but her appearance at the Emmy's settled the bet.
Mad Men pulled off a bit of a coup in the beautiful actresses department.

Stephanie said...

I thought Peggy was all Peggy. I thought she gained weight for the show. But I'm not sure.

I couldn't agree more. I originally thought the same thing and dismissed it for the longest time. A few friends of mine whose taste in comedy I do not trust, loved it so that really kept me away. Then somebody I really trust told me they really liked it, so I gave it a shot. I ended up watched all 3+ seasons in a couple weeks. Good stuff.

Just watched an old episode of Homicide with a curly haired Howie Mandel playing a gay interior designer. lol.

mb said...

Another viewer here in agreement re: Always Sunny.

It does indeed go beyond the shock humor (which IS undeniably central to it's style) and has actors who seem to actually take the humor seriously enough (sounds odd to say - lol) to avoid having it become a slapstick "pie-in-the-face" extravaganza of sorts. It kind of reminds me of elements of Kids in the Hall - perhaps it's the fearlessness mixed with an obviously fertile imagination for comedy.

memphish said...

P, I don't know how I'd hook up the hard drive to my computer. I don't have a laptop. And the PS3 uses that format of hd. Plus, I'm thinking the hd might be corrupt at this point.

I thought I found a fix for a moment. I found a way to try and update the firmware via a memory stick with dl'd data from the net. But when I use it to install from a formatting menu, it gets to about 60% installed and just re-boots.

I called Sony and spoke to a tech who was absolutely no help. She didn't seem to know what was going on and asked me if my PS3 had ever come into contact with water. SIGH.

if you have an extra SATA cable and a SATA power majigger on your power supply, you could hook it up (really ugly like) to your desktop. it'd be hanging out the side, but it could be done.

there are also SATA to USB devices you could buy. they're around 15 or 20 bucks.

not sure what the data on a PS3 hard drive looks like at the moment but i've got my backup on an external hard drive so i could look into it later tonight.

Jordan, i had a Mariners hat that my Seattle-based Aunt sent me for the longest time. years and years. it survived all sorts of things. but it couldnt survive being vomited all over by my parent's elderly cat.

RIP, vomit cat. RIP, vomit hat.

Jordan said...

"but it couldnt survive being vomited all over by my parent's elderly cat."

That is the perfect metaphor for Seattle sports in general right now. lol. Which hat was it? The current one, or one of the old ones?

When I graduated high school, my parents threw me a party. Besides friends, my mom also invited a bunch of her friends. I don't know who it was who got me it, but some moron gave me a Yankee hat as a present. You know what I did with that. Took it in the back yard and burnt it. lol.

Nice jab about your Blue Jays, Canada. Real subtle.

Trevor McFur said...

No crazy stunts to get the tix ... but, using credit cards to buy things you can't afford, that's a good thing right?

Kim, that's really cruel. How'd the Jays do this year, by the way? Or for the last 14 years...

Not sure who I'm rooting for as opponent. Boston has the experience, and if they come back again, they'll be full of confidence and will obviously have straightened out whatever problems they have now. Tampa looks pretty scary good right now, but I just can't believe in them. But also, Tampa and Philly have a bad history together ... the Bucs beat the Eagles in 2003 in the NFC Championship and went on to win the Superbowl (2002/03 team was the real missed opportunity for the Eagles to win the SB). Then, in 2004, the Philadelphia Flyers lost in the Eastern Conference finals to ... the Tampa Bay Lightning, who then went on to win the Stanley Cup. So Tampa scares me too.

I'm rooting for the Phillies. I despise all sports team's in Boston, as they've been so spoiled over the past few years. And I don't like watching expansion teams winning either. Both make me insecure as a miserable Seattle sports fan. So go Phillies. Plus, they got 50 year old ex-M, Jamie Moyer.

Jordan, another point to add is that stupid chihuahua dog movie is number one again at the box office. Is that what America wants to see?

Chris JC said...

I imagine that America wants to see anything at the moment that they don't have to vote about later.

Do you know how we got our current Prime Minister, Gordon Brown?

Before Tony Blair was voted in, he and Gordon went for a meeting in a restaurant and Tony essentially said "let's campaign like sods - if we get voted in, I'll be Prime Minister for a bit, then you can have a go" and over ten years in power later, he did exactly that.

We are currently being run by a person who we did not vote into power. How does that sound to ya?

Good morning, blogspot. Feel free to post anything interesting to start the conversation. Cause I got nothing. Oh wait. How about that Office? I thought it was very, very funny. Except for Dwight by his self.

PalmerEldritch said...

good episode. jim and pam were pretty boring. dwight was a little over the top (more so than usual). but a pretty damned funny episode.

anyone watch Earl?! holy crap that was hilarious.

andrew. said...

- i don't know why i don't watch Earl any more. I guess i decided the humor was too predictable, even though the show often had some classic lines.

- still love the Office, but it's developing into more of a melodrama than a sitcom. When Jan said she was going to go lie down for a minute, I really expected her to die and end up leaving Michael to raise the baby.
My favorite moment was angela tryign to take the Anne Geddes styled baby-as-flower photo.

- I'm fairly positive that the SNL show resorted to using a laugh track.

- Got in some new music at the store, so i'm excited about that today.

memphish said...

Trust me, to judge from my father-in-law's emails, it's working in some places. Though that's not with undecided voters. I love how David Letterman called McCain on consorting with G. Gordon Liddy, Watergate plumber, last night.

I'm off to vote in the next 2 hours. I seriously hope I can manage to tune everything out after that.

don't bother worrying about the elections. we're all going to be killed by robots anyhow.

mb said...

wow - didn't realize the Wahlberg had that little of a sense of humor. oh well. too bad.

Also,
I generally avoid posting anything political here (and will continue to do so after this post) but I will say this re: Ayers and the current election issues -
I'm pretty certain that the fact that the Republicans are continuing and stepping up the Obama-is-a-terrorist angle so much, and their sudden interest in voter fraud (don't get me started on their ACORN accusations), are not unrelated to the fact that they are falling farther and farther behind in most polls.

As much of a political junkie as I become around election time, I really am ready to for it to end.
This one has gone on so long (if you consider how long the primary candidates campaigned from mid-2007 on) I have changed addresses, expanded my family by one, and watched and podcasted about an entire season of Lost since the media started talking about the 2008 election.

I say this of course as someone who made up his mind re: the candidates a while ago.

Stephanie said...

Can't wait to listen. John Hamm doesn't seem to be very funny. But maybe I'm wrong. I hope I'm wrong.

Doug Benson is doing his podcast again? I thought he stopped doing it a year ago or so. I don't like Benson as a stand up, but I really liked that podcast. He has a lot of funny friends. Just comedians sitting around talking about movies. Usually high. lol.

andrew. said...

- yeah, he starts and stops the podcast, so there are big lulls. It seems like a really easy podcast to do (he just gets up before the Upright Citizens Brigade show and invites out some friends who are already there for the show) and it seems relatively popular, so i hope he just keeps doing them.

- i'm at work today, blah. I'm treating myself to some pizza, which i will regret later.

I'm really looking forward to out election season. You know how long ours lasts?

Four weeks.

In, out and thanks. Done.

Trevor McFur said...

Four weeks would be great. It would save a lot of money, that's for sure. It's starting to seem like an election season starts as soon as the last one ends.

Chris JC said...

The only thing is that you don't vote for the leader of your country, as previously stated.

You vote for your local council person - and whoever gets voted into that position secures the "seat" for the party that they represent. The party that ends up with the most of these councils ends up running the country.

It's up to the party themselves who becomes Prime Minister (sometimes it's not even the party leader, but it usually is).

And that's it. So however hard your local councilperson may campaign, really people only get voted in for their party not for what they said they'd do.

I know that a few times in the past it's not been until the ballot paper is in my hand that I see who it is I'm actually voting for.

'Tis a weird system, but it does at least mean that you don't get these guys begging for your votes one second, then being the single most powerful individual on Earth the next.

Trevor McFur said...

BTW...

"In, out and thanks. Done."

TWHS.

That sort of system really wouldn't fly here. It's kind of funny to watch McCain's campaign yell, "Socialist!" at Obama after the both of them signed this big bailout bill, and after McCain proposed that the government buy up people's bad mortgages.

Chris JC said...

Out of interest, has it been news that over here we have also had a taxpayer bank bailout to the tune of £50bn?

If, of course, it's much more than seven times then it'll be business as usual in the "me moaning about transatlantic monetary anomalies", so I really am not going to work it out.
