Maybe this time they can make it work?
Evangeline Lilly and Dominic Monaghan are reportedly set to marry.
The actors - who split briefly earlier this year - are said to be planning a quiet ceremony in Hawaii, as a tribute to 'Lost', the hit US TV show on which they met. A source said: "Evangeline and Dominic have been spending a lot of time together during the show's hiatus and are very excited about the future. "Evangeline accepted Dom's proposal while they were away together and they both agree Hawaii is the perfect place for the wedding - both as a location and for sentimental reasons."
However, the pair are in no rush to tie the knot, and are happy living as an engaged couple for the time being. The source added: "The wedding might be next year or maybe the year after that."
It's another LOST mystery!"

Well, good.
I think she has a "type"
yeah, Men.
...WHO ARE DORKY!!
wow. that first husband looks like the love child of dominic monaghan and the Greatest American Hero.
This GAH?
From the last post -- when I missed the move to this post -- fashion for the men of the blogspot.
Holli
holli, maybe if i wore them all one on top of the other?
Why do you need armbands with a speedo?
Hard to tell from the photo, but are the straps holding the speedo up? Or is it just that shoulder holster look without the guns?
Holli
kim, why does anyone even WEAR a speedo?
and why do french canadians travel to the US to wear them? ack!!!!!
Pfft. Over here, we all just wear banana hammocks.
hence the american revolution. :)
Palmer, I don't know why any French Canadians do what they do...

YOU....ARE....KIDDING ME!?!?!
- Congrats to Chaaalie and Kate :)

Holli, thanks for that link to the ass painting. And by that I mean, "Ahhhhhh! My eyes, my eyes!"
What would really make me excited if it turned out that William Katt was playing the same character that he did in Greatest American Hero.
Speaking of Heroes, it turns out that more that one Claire can dye her hair black.
Heroes?
Hmm. Other pictures yeah?
Looks reminscent of the future Peter
...Possibly a little bit spoilery this one....
Don't worry Kim.
I'm not offended, Im first-generation Portugese-Canadian.
I do speak French, French-Canadian, English, Portugese and some Spanish -- but never, EVER wear speedos.
P.S. Have you found the Chins book yet? :-)
Loved Sideswipe. It's a toss-up between that and Rocket Ball as to which is my favorite. I would like to do Rocket Ball, but I liked watching the wipeouts on Sideswipe.
Next week -- biggest loser edition. Not really looking forward to the inspirational blather. Thank goodness for fast forward.

hi fellow SASers!
vacation is going great! yesterday my family took me to the lake and i got really sunburned. it hurts!
next weekend we're going to the beach. i have to remember to get some sunblock from now until then. at least my face got some nice color. there's a group picture of me and some cousins and i look like a ghost, before the sun hit me. now i blend in a little more.
i hope everyone is doing well. i'll be back for good in a week.
Miss you, Ally.
Miss you, Jordan.
Man, that hair is bad.
Speaking of Speedos, the ballpark near my house is having "ugly t-shirt, and Speedo night" this Saturday. It should be fun, and scary.

Jon, that is a FRIGHTENING concept. my recommendation is to stay indoors with tin foil on all the windows.
how'd everyone like Gladiators last night? both couples came off a bit annoying. i was rooting for the blue team though.
and somebody won pyramid!? crazy stuff.
I was all for Ally. Any chick who'd audition for AG on her wedding day was definitely worth rooting for, and I thought the blue wife was scared to death of her husband. As was I. It was a good episode from a contestants eating the competition though. I like it when there are lots of points. And that men's Eliminator was extremely fun to watch. I've never seen it closer. I'm ready to end the theme episodes and get down to the semi-finals.
Holli
oh, speaking of Ally, "HI, ALLY!!!"
theme episodes are weak. true.
yeah, the blue guy was a tad... intense? the red lady seemed way too energetic and whatnot for me. the blue girl was a bit sheepish but she had nice for the eliminator. so, go blue team?
i'm not sure how i like the recapping of skipped events. the blue guy got 22 points and we only saw the recap?
They are getting married on the fourth of the eighth and inviting 2342 people. They just need to use the Time Wheel to send them all back to 1516.
N E R D
I actually enjoyed the fashions from the last thread, after years of women being objectified, it's refreshing to see anonymously faced men reduced to nipples and package.
I agree I don't like the recapping. In the past they've only recapped events where they didn't score, but not last night.
It looked like Hurricane was a big wuss on Hang Tough. I think this was the first time this season anyone scored and both scored 10 points.
Other than Phoenix and last year's winners the new gladiators aren't doing much for me. Nor is Siren or Militia. It's time for them to go.
Any guesses on the name for the new glowing-eyed Gladiator?
Holli
"Any guesses on the name for the new glowing-eyed Gladiator?"
Beacon.
Anyways... Another day, another pilot viewed. This time, Leverage. Basically it's a US version of the amazing BBC1 con drama Hustle. I think i prefer the UK version... shockingly, it's much more flashy than this... although it wasn't too bad... I liked.
It's the power of Robert Vaughn. He makes all things better.
holli, thanks to your twitter tweet, i made a wordle from this thread. you and i feature prominently!
clicky
i like hustle although the brunette's nose weirds me out.
it's HILARIOUS that Robert Vaughn is in that show. he was recently reduced to doing advertisements for personal injury law firms over here in the States. and then we saw him as the venerated elder in Hustle. funny stuff.
that said, it's (usually) a fun show. for some reason, it airs here on AMC which is (or was?) American Movie Classics. i found it funny that Hustle was on AMC cuz Hustle is neither American, a Movie, nor a Classic.
Cool Wordle Palmer. For the rest of you, check out Wordle and my LOST Wordle.

The Cue the Film Wordie
I like picking out phrases from that, like:

Podcast Murder
chris, that's a really good one. good stuff.
how'd you find that site, holli?
oh. i guess that Cue the Film podcast wordle reminds me that i have a new Cue the Film podcast to listen to. i'll just have to track down Nicolas Cage and we can listen together.
Hustle is returning in the autumn... or sometime. Jaime Murray (the brunette) and the blonde dude... forgot his name... er... he['s not in it either. But the guy, Mickey, is coming back from his long con selling the sydney opera house...
good stuff.
wait... the weaselly little blonde guy's not coming back?
I found Wordle through the Pop Candy blog at USA Today.

so, any word on the The Office(US) spinoff?
and, if they do make one, how would they make it different than the current one?
Anyone seen this film (link below)? Apparently it was Oscar nominated a couple of years ago, and has one of our favorite Losties in it.
Our Time is Up
FYI - it's about 12mins - 14 w/credits
...kablamo?
phew! no, mb, i haven't seen it. i may check it out this afternoon. safe for work if i wear headphones?
My internet's hanging in for one more post tonight!
Palmer: any word on the The Office(US) spinoff?

Set it in Britain!
Yo blogspot, What up? Coming to you from an internet cafe in Munich. It´s like 30 degrees celcius and muggy. Yuck. Just flew in this morning from London. I was all busy with family and friends there, so I wasn´t able to check in til just now. Nothing too eventful in London. Same as before. But I will say one thing. Chris isn´t joking when he complains about how much more expensive things are there compared to in the US. Gas is like $10 a gallon and blurays are like $40. Everything is basicallz double. And the Euro isn´t exactly cake either. It was bad four years ago, but this is ridiculous. Damn you shitty US money!!! And damn you stupid foreign kezboard with swapped y and z kezs! WTF? Water just dripped on me from the ceiling! Damn Turkish internet cafe. Ok gang. I´m off to go drink some beer and go hunt down these girls. :P Auf Wiedersehen!
brilliant, chris! i'm writing NBC a letter with your suggestion right now!
ok, maybe not...
jordan, i hope the trip is treating you well cuz you're missing out on some prime MGS4 time. good stuff. it'll be waiting for you though, i'm sure.
i hope you're DVRing American Gladiators...
I'm confused as to how Jordan could be in a Turkish internet cafe while in Munich........
Firefox doesn't like wordle.
steph, firefox likes wordle OK for me on a Mac and a PC. it might be a java issue.
java is annoying like that. :)
took a couple minutes to make my latest wordle:
the LOST wikipedia.org entry wordle!
I done my Wordie using Firefox, Steph.
But maybe my computer's an awesome trooper.
;)
...I'm off to my audition now... eeek.
Wish me luck!
Good luck, young'un.
Mek uz proud.
good luck, herlihy!
looks like LOST just picked up four Saturns (not to be confused with Uranuses).
Ouch, that'll annoy the viewers who hate sci-fi and still can't accept they are actually watching an SF show.
None of these wordles work on my computer at work. I gotta remember to check them out when I get home tonight.
How does the dude from 'No Country for Old Men' win the Best Supporting Actor Saturn award? I don't remember much sci-fi in that film.
i'm not sure if LOST is Science Fiction as much as it is Fantasy. hmmm...
i really like the Narnia/Oz/Wonderland explanation of the Island. things are wacky and crazy cuz its a different "world." and not in a science fiction way but in a fantasy way.
so, maybe LOST is SciFi/Fantasy. a good compromise? A SciFi/Fantasy Action/Adventure Drama?
Trevor, havent seen No Country but maybe it's a horror? or a fantasy?
Time travel = sci fi doesn't it? Carlton's insistence on the love geometry probably means he wishes it were up for a Daytime Emmy.
Holli
holli, the love tesseract is probably a HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE part of LOST's success. or at least it's early success. a lot of people eat that stuff up.
luckily, we blogspotters seem to prefer the Penny/Desmond stuff which is much more romantical than "Who will Kate trade spit with next?"
that said, i'm sure many blogspotters don't mind Kate or Jack or Sawyer in the various states of undress that result from the love hypercube.
as for time-travel, that does strike me as particularly scifi. which is why i amended my classification to Scifi/Fantasy. although, Narnia has some time travel... hmm... :)
Narnia is a weird one as it has two time streams that operate independently of each other. Narnia's is very very much faster than Earth's, but you can only ever experience it chronologically, you can't go there at a time earlier than you've been there before.
What's that? How did they turn from adults back into children again?
Erm...
There were TALKING BEAVERS! - nothing else needs to hold up scientifically.
I think that Narnia can all be explained by, "It's magic". But what's weird is that the time difference is always random. In "Prince Caspian" the kids come back a year or so later, but over 1000 years have passed in Narnia. In "Dawn Treader", I don't remember how long had passed in our world, but only a few years had passed in Narnia. And in "The Silver Chair", maybe 50 years or so had passed because all of the characters from "Caspian" were old.
The Guardian's reviewer really didn't enjoy "Wanted".
Sounds like it might be an excellent curiosity piece.
I'd place LOST in the Fantasy category, myself.
Sci-Fi has always seemed to embrace science and scientific manipulation of the elements.
LOST seems to be rejecting the Dharma Initiative's attempts at manipulating the Island's properties down to Ben blatantly disregarding Halliwax's video warnings of metal inside the vault.
The Island didn't need scientific intervention to be able to travel in space and/or time.
The use of a donkey wheel is a perfect allegory to such a rejection of science. There is some old black magic in that island.
That's why I think Fantasy is more appropriate a classification.
Also, immortal beings (Dr. Eyeliner) have always seems more LotR that Total Recall.
chris, i'm not sure if that review hates it or more less than the review i read the other day which proclaimed that Borat was right about Kazakhstan as evidenced by the director of Wanted being from Kazakhstan.
i guess the movie blows goats.
from the review: "And yet I can't help thinking that if a film treated any ethnic group the way this treats women, it would find itself in pretty hot water."
to which i'd respond that "no, Transformers didnt get in trouble at all."
and i love Transformers but, man, there was only one black character who wasn't a horrible buffoon. and he sort of dissolved into one during one of the action scenes. heck, even the robot voiced by a black man was a horrible stereotype.
yeesh...
by the way, i really liked the direction and special effects in the 40 minutes of Day Watch that i watched... at night.
Maybe I need some sort of firefox java plug in.
Day Watch- I just didn't like the switcheroo thing.
if you need java, i'd think it would prompt you for it. what kind of error are you getting?
when the java is loading it sort of freezes my browser for about 30 seconds while it downloads and runs the Wordle thing.
which one is first, steph? i know i watched the first 40 minutes of the first one. but cant remember if it was Day Watch or Night Watch... :\
Night Watch is first. It starts out with the vampires.
kablamo!
I get a giant grey box with a small red 'X' at the top left.
I get that same thing, trev.
I just got back from my audition...
I think it went well. They liked my wit, especially when i was asked "what do you do in your spare time?" "er... doss about? and write music reviews..."
They concentrated loads on the music critic thing... they kept asking me if i was a "musical snob" "er, i think the correct term is 'Elitist'" "I prefer my term." I had to do a one on one interview and talk loads about emo. :/ bad times.
We also had to do a mock round of the show... I was the strongest link with the only person to answer all my questions correct. AWESOME.
the interviewer was a bit hot as well... :/ I don't really see why they wouldn't pick me, i was the only one with any aspect of a personality there...
It's hard work being this amazing. :)

Hear myself saying that all the time ... ;-)
Good work, that fella.
Hey, the BBFC have just published the UK age rating for The Dark Knight, and it's a 12 A.
For some reason I expected at least a 15, but there you go.
Also - it's 152 minutes, film length fans!
Unfortunately, they have claimed the film stars one "Heather Ledger".
well done, BBFC! bravo.
i checked the listing and was very glad to read that there was a female supporting character in the movie besides Maggie Gyllenhaal. phew!
and, no, i'm not talking about Heather Ledger. Monique Curnen? no idea who she is. but she's not Maggie Gyllenhaal so i'm excited.
Monique Curnen = "Detective Ramirez", so will probably be seen sharing some words in Spanish with Mayor Eyeliner, like a good little stereotype.
She look like THIS
Mayor Eyeliner?! bad ass.
Yes, Nestor Carbonell is the mayor of Gotham.
I first encountered him as Batmanuel in the live action version of "The Tick", so when watching The Dark Knight, I'm not going to be able to shake the idea that when he's not mayoring, he gets dressed up and pretends to fight crime, but instead just tries inexpertly to pick up women.
Detective Ramirez? Is she supposed to be Renee Montoya, but they just changed the name?
Did anybody watch Wipeout? I've not laughed at a non comedy show so much. It's like Gladiators gone Japanese... It looks soooo painful... but so so so funny.
Wikipedia, it do say:
"Although Renee Montoya is changed to Anna Ramirez in the 2008 direct-to-video animated film Batman: Gotham Knight; she appears as herself in the Ace novelization by Louise Simonson."
So it's likely to still be the case in TDK.
Ramirez?
"What is a haggis?"
Why would they change her name? Did they want it to be more Hispanic, or less Hispanic? Were they afraid that people might think that she's related to Inigo Montoya?
anybody want a peanut?
No more rhyming now, I mean it!

ralph-, I saw The Apple the other night. It was so bad I couldn't watch. But it wasn't as bad as Forbidden Zone.
Nice to know that homophobia spreads beyond the borders of the U.S.
Oh yeah.
It's totally ludicrous. I thought it was quite an intelligent advert which subversesstereotypes and ideological thinking. But then comes the Daily Mail brigade and ruins every thing. Now we're stuck with more stupid nonsense adverts like the cadbury's gorilla and suchlike.... huff.
Ah - funnily enough, I got myself into an internet discussion about this very thing just yesterday. Because I like to think I'm interesting and that people care, I said this:
"If I were eight years old (cos I was once, so I feel I can speak with authority), I reckon my response to that advert would not be confusion or upset.
"Instead I'd think it was very funny. I find it quite amusing now, but I think at eight years old I'd find two men kissing in that situation quite amusing.
"Like it was when Bugs Bunny kissed Elmer Fudd.
"In the context of the advert, it's not even a "gay kiss" as the NY Deli guy is still being the wife and mother, he just happens to be being portrayed on screen by a man because of the context of the advert. I think the problem MIGHT be that actually explaining THAT takes longer than just saying it's a gay kiss.
"Oddly, it put me in mind of an episode of Frasier in which Our Hero falls for a female gym teacher but after seeing her teach class he gets filled with terrifying memories of his own gym teacher and from that point on until near the end of the episode, Frasier's girlfriend starts being portrayed by Bob Hoskins who kisses the three male leads (although on the cheek), hangs out with Frasier in a sauna, and appears in bed with a shirtless Frasier while smoking a post-coital cigar.
"I've seen this episode twice, and both in the morning on Channel 4 (somewhere between 9 and 10 AM).
"And: it's very funny and at no point would I feel I have to explain same-sex relationships to any children who might be watching if I didn't feel ready to do so yet, whereas I'm sure they would easily understand being scared of an authority figure.
"I'm not saying that it shouldn't be discussed and I'm certainly not saying that It Should Not Be. What I AM saying is it demonstrates a fundamental misunderstanding of the very, very basic concept of the simple joke the advert is constructed around."
Wow, that was longer than I remember. I guess I was due a blogspot rant.
RANT OVER.
You know, it's funny ... I wonder if anyone would dare to make a cartoon now that shows Bugs kissing Elmer Fudd...
Maybe if Fudd then shoots Bugs and then mounts a flagpole in his chest while the Battle Hymn of the Republic rings out and Elmer proclaims "From my cauld dead haaaand".
Sorry, went a bit English there. My apologies.
my first reaction to your "went a little english there" comment was "of course he went a little english... he's speaking the bloody language.,..."
...It's been a long day.
Chris, you just made me laugh out loud at work.
FUDD: only two kindsa things come fwom wabbit holes, steers n' queers
BUGS: What about rabbits?
SMOOCH!
BANG
Cut to:
DAFFY DUCK holding up sign reading "Gay Season".
Oh, dear - I'm genuinely not this misanthropic about the US. I promise.
This conversation kind of reminds me of that scene in Wayne's World, when Garth asks Wayne if he ever found Bugs attractive when he puts on a dress.
hey, the US had a big gay kiss in a superbowl ad. right? the dudes and the snicker bar or something?
and the US and the UK also have openly gay/bisexual television characters.
anyhow, i dont think that the US or the UK has a monopoly on homophobia. we get lots of crap about being homophobic nations but there are a lot of famous gay actors and the US has legal gay marraige in at least a handful of states.
any homophobia is wrong but its countries like Iran that have us beat hands down on that issue. in the UK or the US, a couple of people write a letter to a tv station but in other countries two guys kissing can get them KILLED.
dont worry. i'm not saying that the US and the UK dont have any homophobia. they certainly (and unfortunately) do.
Wait, didn't Ahmadinejad say that there is no homosexuality in Iran...? :)
There's no question that we're light-years beyond Iran and other places in terms of tolerance. I just find it funny that people get so riled up about a TV commercial.
And that Snickers commercial was never shown again (I think!) because of all the uproar about it.
You guys are hitting on something that's been bothering me all week. Since I am a mother of a 10 year-old, I am just the person this ad might offend. You know the song Jay was singing on the latest podcast? "I kissed a girl and I liked it." Well, every time it comes on the radio, I freak out a little inside and turn the station. Am I afraid this song is going to make my child gay or something? On the other hand, this topic is just not something 10 year-olds should be worrying about. But like someone just said, kids don't really worry about that stuff. So maybe I'm worrying too much about nothing. But I live in the South where we fuss about everything. It's in my blood.
Hey Ya all I just got the Netfix ROKU instant viewer for your Tv and I'd say its pretty cool. My TV is not the greatest but it's better then whatching dumb movies in front of the PC. Even though the PC screen I got is 4x better then my TV. Hell I'm whatchin the first season of Dr.Who(Spec. effects aren';t going to look any better on HD!!)So You can't go wrong and Caddy Shack 2 is up next:)
that said, what the heck is this song about ladies kissing each other? is the singer good looking? is there dharma whipped topping involved?!
ka-
blamo!
Steph alot of stuff around is wrong.....How do we differ one from another? I don't know I'm open minded with out any children. And am nervouse. The stufff kids know now BLOWS my mind!!
I thought he was talking about that song that was out 10 years or so ago, "I kiised the girl, her lips were sweet, she was just like kissing me". I'm old.
Yeah, I'd agree that a 10-year old doesn't need to hear songs about making out, straight or gay. There probably are a lot of people who really do think that listening to that song, or watching those commercials, will make their kids gay, I bet.
I kissed a girl well, not me. I mean, i have kissed girls...
er. anybody want a spare shovel that i don't need any more? :(
nice. i approve of her attention grabbing faux-lesbianism.
while at the same time realizing she's probably just an attention whore.
The song I Kissed A Girl is pretty old. Steph, you probably need to work on what your going to tell Morgan about it because it's everywhere these days. What to say, that's another matter. I've got no advice on that.
But in the same vein, Meet the Faggot family.
Holli
So apparently there's a new "I Kissed a Girl" as well as the old Jill Sobule version which is the one I remember. It reminds me of this recent urban dictionary word of the day:
Barsexual
A college-age girl who kisses other girls in bars and clubs, usually for attention and the approval of men.
A BISEXUAL girl kisses girls at home when no ones looking.
A BARSEXUAL girl only kisses them in places that charge a cover.
Holli
Speaking of offal...
Hey Kim, when can we expect a TLI finale extravaganza?
Holli
Jill Sobule's 'I Kissed a Girl'. This was also what I was thinking of - always loved that video - gotta give props to Fabio - lol.
I know we're moving past this topic here, but since I like to talk too much :) I'll add my 2-cents.
As a parent of a FIVE year old who is already encountering kissing and different kinds of relationships (one her teachers is gay - and a very cool guy), I have to agree that the issue is not homosexuality for me, but exposure to sexuality in general.
I have absolutely no problem with explaining that there are man-woman couples, man-man couples and woman-woman couples, and if she asks questions we are honest, but there is SO much innuendo and crap everywhere (even on "KID'S TV") that I think it does require some due dilligence to sheild your kid from stuff that I personally don't think they need to be thinking about.
And OF COURSE I'm a big f-ing hypocrite when I look back at the crap I was allowed to watch as a kid!
"The great British faggot is full of flavour and a great belly warmer at this time of year."
TWHS
Speaking of innuendo, has anyone seen Spongebob Square Pants? I mean... wtf. If you analyse that... well... hmm.
And don't get me started on The MAgic Roundabout. Sweet zombie Jesus.
You know, Pretty Woman was one of our favorite movies growing up. I didn't turn out to be a prostitute. But what was my mother thinking letting me watch that?

andrew., that video has a certain appeal but i can't put my finger on it.
...mainly because of the restraining order.
Holli--Aimee and I recorded it. I just need to cut it all together. Plain and simple, Kim = procrastinator. I'm GOING to edit it...eventually. Now, I'm worried it will be overhyped and not as interesting. What a predicament.
Over-hyped?
That's unpossible!
I need a dose of TLI!
I'm not fussed about waiting for the new episode of TLI, it's spreading out the hiatus wait. That's what Kim actually means... not that story about procrastination... she's doing us a service!
you'll all be happy when it comes! (twss)
Kim doesn't realize we'd love to hear TLI talk about anything. We're not picky.
Heck, I'll edit it. All practice is good practice
pfft. she bloody should.
In fact, the three Hiatus episodes are the episodes which i listen to most... (because i'm a loser and i listen to them when i go to bed, for some reason i find it difficult to sleep without listening to something, podcast/music... etc.)
Anyways. I've just had a phone interview for a job. awesome. I should get a proper interview for it on tuesday.:)
Also, Super Smash Bros. Brawl = Amazing.
After the ridiculous wait for Super Smash Bros here (and no, having Mario Kart slightly early didnt' make up for it) I'd managed to get it into my head that it was coming out late July and so have found myself without prepared cash to buy said title.
Also, I find out TODAY that Final Fantasy Tactics A2 is also out now. That's just mean - Tactics Advance was the first FF related game I've really loved since FFIX.
I am the man of upset, and the Blind Guardian cover version of Queen's Spread Your Wings that just came on my shuffle isn't really helping.
if you're upset, don't go listen to Bright Eyes - Poison Oaks. awww. that song makes me cry.
anyway. it's amazing. the mechanics are basically the same... but it's all the little touches that make it brilliant.
i didn't actually have the money for it, i just went and traded in 4 old Wii games that i don't use anymore and that covered the £40 price tag and got a credit note of £5 for other uses.
I usually do that, but I'm pretty much down to the Wii games I don't want to lose now, I still regret trading in the GameCube iteration of Paper Mario just because I got annoyed at the final boss.
Ah, well. At least I still have Chibi-Robo.
im staying anonymous to protect my identity but ive finaly unsubscribed from the jay and jack show. i just wasent listening to it and it took up too much space on my Ipod. it still felt lk a big deal canceling it tho
For those who give a shit. I'm going to try to update it as much as possible. This is a bit tricky with everything on the computer in German at the moment.
See if this thing works.
Went to the Spain-Russia semi-final last night! Stumbled upon a cheap ticket. No clue how that happened. Not the most thrilling game, but the atmosphere was awesome! And the night previous I was at the Munich Olmpia Stadium where I watched Germany's match against Turkey with about 30,000 peeps. So crazy.
Anything good on tv that I'm missing?
Cool Jordan! You aren't missing ANYTHING! Even soccer is better than what's on TV here.
Holli
/soccer hater
Speaking of Jay and Jack, I heard this story on the stump the listener segment of NPR's "Wait, Wait Don't Tell Me," and because of Dale's Mrs. Butterworth story I successfully guessed that this was indeed the true story.
Holli
Hey, Jordan - how's that "Europe" place you're in treating you?
Is it all sleeping in the afternoon, kisses on the cheeks, sex on TV at all hours, wine for breakfast and not mentioning the war?
only 30K people?! i went to a New England Revolution game at Foxboro (the FIRST Revolution home game) with more people than that.
weird.
glad you're having fun, jordan. i checked out that stadiumand it looks pretty damned cool.
holli, that Conan game thing is sad but true. i guess all sorts of "young and successful MMO players" were very upset that their virtual boobies were no longer how they'd sculpted them. yeesh...
Jordan, we want to see pictures.
RE: Mrs Buttersworth. I saw that she is flat-chested and now speaks with a non-African American voice. Whatever.
It transpires that my wife has gona and been lovely and will be bringing Smash Bros home this evening. It might have been bought from the joint account, but even if it has I don't mind.
Hooray!
Right when I've asked a friend over so she can watch Genesis of the Daleks before tomorrow night's Doctor Who. I get the feeling it might be a good idea to do so.
...I've never seen any of the old school Doctor who, but i know stuff about it.... I think i'm going to record Doctor Who tomorrow and rewatch the episode right before next weeks finalé.
herlihy, some of old school Who is a lot of fun. other bits have Colin Baker.
i keed, i keed.
it being burger day, get yourself a burger and sit down to watch "City of Death" with Tom Baker as the Doctor. good stuff.
"Darling, nobody could be as stupid as he seems..."
Did Mrs. butterworth used to have an African-American voice? I always thought her voice was supposed to be white. Aunt Jemima used to have an African-American voice ... she's definitely been modernized over the past 20 years or so.
Palmer, I forgot to mention that the 30,000 people were at the stadium watching the game on a big screen as the match was in Switzerland. The actual game that I went to yesterday here in Vienna was sold out at about 51,000.
Chris, It´s not that grand. But pretty cool so far. Vienna is a very picturesque town. Not sure if you saw my post from when I was in Munich, but damn you aren´t joking about how annoyingly overpriced crap in London is! And I had to double everything! No thanks.
One thing I will say is that I find it funny how much Brits poo poo traveling in Europe. To them going to Europe to travel for 2 months is the lamest thing and normally warranted a, "Now why would you want to do that?" For most of them it´s simply a place for weekend holidays. I remember it was the same when I did a similar trip 4 years ago. I think it has to do with a combination of it being so close to them along with their overall elitist attitude to things not them. That and I don´t think they realize how spread out and massive the US is. One lady said to me, "You Americans and the Austalians are all about traveling around the continent. I don´t get the fascination." lol.
Hope you're enjoying Europe, Jordan. Wien is particularly beautiful.
Trev, I guess you're right. I'm getting my syrup mixed up because I haven't given it that much thought before now.
mmm... maple syrup...
had some on my pancakes last night (twss).
and, yes, breakfast for dinner.
Breakfast for dinner is one of the underrated pleasures of life. Even a bowl of cereal tastes better if you eat it for dinner.
w00t Jordan!! So psyched for you - hangin in Europe, going to football games...drinking lots of brew (i should think). Love hearing about it man!
Home today with a daughter who has pink-eye. Not fun, but she's a trooper.
Trevor, a recent "Scrubs" episode was about Turk wanting his wife to serve 'Brinner' or breakfast for dinner. I had never heard that word before. Good one. :)
Robert
...it's because "Brinner" is a portmanteau.
damn you aren´t joking about how annoyingly overpriced crap in London is! And I had to double everything!
True enough. Except petrol prices.
Those are triple.
For a less powerful version of the fuel.
Breakfast for dinner is Paulie Bleeker's favorite.
I just got back from seeing Wanted. All in all, I thought it was a pretty entertaining summer movie. The story was ok, but the action was WAY over the top and awesome. McAvoy was great, the first movie of his I think I've seen. Also, there was an actor from the Doctor Who episode "Love and Monsters".
There were previews of Eagle Eye (a longer one than the one shown before Indy 4) and Death Race. Death Race is way more The Running Man than Death Race 2000, but might be interesting anyway.
I want to see Wall-E too, but I don't want to go when the theater is packed with little kids.
My jaw has officially dropped.
Right: get out of that!
I'm very excited right now.
Elias, In Bruges is right up my alley. I love it.
Ha! Outpost Gallifrey and the Behind the Sofa blog seem to have ground to a halt.
Doctor Who fans are steadily breaking the Internet.
....downloading Who....
(sigh)
it
is
worth
it
did you guys get the 13th episode or are you this excited over the 12th episode of Dr Who for some reason?
i guess i'll be at BBS posting in the Who thread.
Herlihy, was that you writing in to Teletext's Gamecentral about frustrating games? Or some other guy with your name?
Haha. yes it was me. Stupid Viewtiful Joe.
Henshin-a-go-go, baby
I have killed the Blogspot with my non-LOST chats. Come back!
there's a Smoke Munster on JizzIsland.
/back on topic!!!
Boobs!
Holli
- just back from "Wall-E". It's great & full of pretty heavy themes for a kid's movie.
In fact, it's been a really long time since i've seen a kids film in a theater with kids, and most of the kids around me were wondering what was going on half of the time. It's not that the movie has any narrative problems, but it doesn't lay everything out all at once so most of the "what's going on mommy?"s were met with "i don't know. hush." I'm sure once the kids get the DVD and watch it a million times, they'll be fine.
i found the 1st half more interesting but the screen kept getting blurry & wet during the 2nd half, so that might have had something to do with it.
- uh Lost or something.
oh yeah, the preview for this atrocity
run, run for your lives.
I put that on the message board too Andrew. Seriously how did that movie get made?
Kiddo and I are going to see Wall-E Tuesday. I've been looking forward to it more than he has.
Holli
Does anyone know if the Coldplay song 42, lyrics here, is linked to LOST? Are the Coldplay guy closet fans or something?
Holli
Cold Play seem too pretentious to write a song about a tv show but I'm going to go ahead and help perpetuate a crazy internet rumor that says the song is based on Lost.
Sadly, Morgan isn't interested in WALL E. She probably thinks it's too childish. I hope to eventually talk her into it.
Matthew Fox - SMOKE Monster?
i want a job writing horribly annoying headlines for newspapers and websites. as you can see, i wouldn't be half bad at pissing people off with my annoying headlines.
anyhow, Matthew Fox might play a super secret assassin assassinating assassins. huh. that was a lot of ass.
I would assume if 42 bears any referencing, particularly in its title, it would be The Hitch-Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy. In fact, now I say that I recall they had a track called Don't Panic.
Aha!
In Douglas Adams' comic sci-fi book and TV series The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, the number 42 is revealed as "the answer to life the universe and everything." Q magazine July 2008 asked Chris Martin if this song is Hitch Hiker's Guide related. The Coldplay frontman replied "It is and it isn't. 42 is my favourite number. 42 is just perfect. We've got two John Lennon songs, this and Violet Hill."
also
Chris Martin explained the lyrics to MTV News: "Well, the whole record is - if it were a Notorious B.I.G. record, it'd be called 'Life and Death.' Maybe because we've had some people close to us who we've lost, but some miracles - we've got kids. So, life has been very extreme recently, and so both death and life pop up quite often. It's called '42' because it's my favourite number. And I think it's probably in Will's top three favourite numbers too."
My job strikes again.
Chris - Richard Coyle. What are your thoughts?
I never did see any of "Strange", or whatever it was called, but I didn't have the aversion to "Coupling" that many seem to have. I really enjoy that pretty much all of the names suggested as Who 11 are people Moffat's worked with before, like he has no imagination. Mostly Nesbitt and Coyle though.
I'd still like to see them go older, maybe with a male companion who does the action stuff, like Ian did for Hartnell, but I sense it's probably not a wise business decision with the new audience.
I would be annoyed if Nesbitt got the gig. Doesn't he have enough tv shows as it is? he annoys me to the Nth degree.
Whereas i can see Richard Coyle doing the job quite well...
I watched it again yesterday, the last episode, i swear i saw RTD in the graphics.... maybe the graphics department were having a bit of a laugh...
"are you havin' a laugh?"
P A D D Y C O N S I D I N E
See, I knew this was the right place to ask. The thing is the lyrics seem a lot more like LOST than Hitchhiker's Guide. I don't remember (but it has been about 17 years since I read those books) that people in the Hitchhiker's Guide cared that much about people who died. Or that ghosts were showing up. I don't really remember Dirk Gently being terribly introspective either.
Holli
Oh, I don't think (beyond the reference to the greater meaning of all things) that the Hitch-Hiker's Guide had any influence on the reasoning behind the lyrics, just that it clearly played a part in the title - or at least a part in making 42 Chris Martin's favourite number.
Hi Def Bond Trailer.
Holli
Awesome catch, Holli - I feel cursed just watching that.
After the mix-and-match nature of James Bond continuity these last few years it's good to see a couple of films with such a strong plot continuation. It's clearly an actual sequel. Arc-tastic.
cool Bond trailer. looking forward to the movie.
what's up, blogspotica?
I have no idea what you Brits are talking about but I did hear Paddy Considine? Breaks my heart.
alright, let's get this thread to 200 and see if the blogspot explodes or something.
hey! congrats to Dominic and Evangeline. she'll make a lovely bride.
i am a bit worried that when the priest asks if anyone has reason why they shouldnt get married that Jay Glatfelter will kick down the door and accuse Dominic of playing the bass incorrectly.
I guess school exams actually ARE getting easier...
sadly, that's one of the less distressing stories about education that i've read recently.
I once got a point for creativity for answering "A religious arsonist" to the question of "Who was St. Elmo?" on a chemistry exam in high school.
Oh, no! Now I have John Parr singing in my head.
CURSE YOU, McFUR!
did somebody say John Parr?
Still driving toward 200? I've gotten my podcast count down to 23. Right now I'm listening to Metrobuzz in the City, the most recent rooftop session. If for some reason want to hear someone talking about having sex with guys who then dump her, this is the show for you.
Holli
hmm... maybe she's doing it wrong?
You beat me by 5 minutes palmer.
Palmer!
I was talking about the John Parr clip, and I guess it was actually more like 13 minutes.
My podcast count is down to 89.
But, I start my new job in 2 weeks, with a 45 minute commute each direction. So I should start making some headway soon eough.
rock riddle!!!
hey, you Doctor Who nerds (like myself), Doctor Who comic news!
I see they've given Martha the traditional comic book take on black skin tones by basically making her grey.
I'm not much of one for actual comics, but they look nicely done.
So we've moved the blog into multi-page mode. New thread? (or are people really attached to Evi and Dom?)
