Yay! Something to listen to on the way in to work in the morning.

Don't be sorry...I only started the new thread so I wouldn't have to scroll through 200+ posts.

I'm glad there's something new to listen to!!

DenAss said...

Kim,

Since you didn't scroll through the 200+ posts before, you probably didn't see where I requested a TLI and a Dharmalars version of the "Lost Smodcast".

It would be pretty cool to hear TLI and the 'Lars discuss just how long it would take on a deserted island together before Ralph and Ben, or Kim and Aimee became intimate.

Don't you think?

memphish said...

Pity me Kim. I drove 6 hours yesterday and will drive 6 hours tomorrow all for a baby shower. Ok it's my sister's, but in a way that's worse because I don't know anyone else at the shower.

But great news I read elsewhere is that Lost is getting an extra hour this year. We'll get 4 hours at 1 hour a week 4/24 through 5/15 then a 2 hour finale 5/29.

ralph-, the audio was very low this week. A lot of the show I couldn't hear.

Stephanie said...

Just wanted to share that BSG made me cry like a b$5#h last night.

Trevor McFur said...

I actually thought BSG was kind of dull last night, Steph.

*SPOILERS*

I can't seem to care all that much is Lee resigns his comission. As far as I know, he's not leaving the series, so the character is still going to be around (unless he is leaving the show and I didn't know). Plus, it seems kind of ridiculous to think that there's not some kind of forced conscription that would keep him in the squad. I also thought that the the Starbuck storyline was drawn out ... the first thing that I thought when this story started to shape up was, "OK, give her one of the ships and a couple of other people and send them off to explore". Unfortunately it took 1 1/2 episodes to get there. I'm also starting to think that they kind of don't know what to do with Baltar anymore, so they're forcing him into the story a little bit. Even the Cylon stuff bothered me a ... all along they're saying that the Cylons 'have a plan'. Now it looks like they're just as clueless as the humans as to what's 'really' going on.

God, it sounds like I really hated it; I did enjoy it, but just didn't think that it was up to par compared with last week's episode.

Trevor McFur said...

And I should add, Naked Boomer at the beginning ... very good thing.

I'm losing track of all the Cylon models, though.

So... the Boomer that they showed who sided with Dean Stockwell ... that's the same Boomer who shot Adama, right? Is the other Sharon they showed one that we know, or just some random Sharon? And the Number 6 who was featured, is she one that's been a significant player before?

Trevor McFur said...

I should say, the 'other Sharon' I mean is the one who was sitting at the table, not the one who's in the fleet (I know who she is).

Ralph- said...

i think if Kim AND Aimee were to get intimate with me on an island they had better do it fast, cause if this island doesn't have razors, they are not gonna be happy after too long.

Who's to say that Ralph & Ben aren't already intimate?

April 14, 2008: rut ro

"Uh oh" in scooby doo language.

Tom: Hey Bob, isn't that your boss over there? You know, the one who you told you're sick and can't come to work?
Bob: "Rut ro."

My bad Ralph Phish covered that tune. It sounded alot like there version. I got confused, nothing new.

PalmerEldritch said...

so, uh, how 'bout that LOST, eh?

has anyone found Cindy's KFC video on youtube yet?

steph, have you seen Brotherhood of the Wolf with your avatar, Vincent Cassel? and yes, fellas, there's plenty of The Bellucci in that movie too.

Stephanie said...

Palmer, I keep forgetting to stick that one in my queue. I did see Irreversible with the 9 minute scene of Bellucci's character getting raped. Ugh.

Stephanie said...

I like Lost.

PalmerEldritch said...

i have NOT seen Irreversible. maybe i'll keep it that way.

steph, does CQ deserve a place high up in my queue?

I need some BSG podcast tips?
I'm on the third season and just decided to hear some cast any help/favorites?

Stephanie said...

CQ is excellent. Send it to the top, p.

BSG podcasts- definitely subscribe to the Official podcast where Ron Moore lets you in on how the sausage is made. Galactica Watercooler is a must. That's about it as far as good ones go.

Jordan said...

I have Brotherhood of the Wolf on dvd. Great action flick/creepy French flick. And I saw Irreversible in the theater. Double ugh. Not only was the 9 min rape scene that much more uncomfortable, the camera movement throughout the film made about 1/3 of the audience sick and have to leave. On top of that all, a friend and myself took dates to see it. Good times. lol.

Jordan said...

Everytime I read somebody type BSG, I immediately look away. I have still yet to watch the latest ep. I should be able to get around to it as I am off work today. That is unless I get sidetracked with being a lazy oaf.

Anybody on here, most likely down south, try that chicken fried bacon I linked to a few posts previously? Maybe That is what will be next for Wendys. Chicken Fried Baconator!

Nobody's visiting the forum where I asked a question about There Will Be Blood. In that case, I'll ask it here.

Why was Daniel so hostile toward HW in the end? He was mad? As in crazy?

[ally] said...

I haven't seen it, so I wouldn't know, Steph.

But he could've been. He just looks like he would.

Jordan said...

Steph, Are you talking about when HW was grown up? It was because HW was choosing to compete against him. And as Daniel Plainview always said, you are either with him or against him. Also, I felt that his hostility partly had to do with how he had used HW from the start. He knew deep down what he had done, and it was like he was too proud to admit it. So instead he decided to be cool and dastardly from start to finish.

Stephanie said...

I agree, Jordan.

- BSG podcasts: i wholeheartedy 2nd recommendations for the official "Battlestar Galactica Podcast" and "Galactica Watercooler". Ron Moore's podcast is almost required to make sense of some flubbed story lines, especially in season 3. The Galactica Watercooler crew are easily one of the best podcast teams out there, entertaining no matter what they talk about.

I would like to also recommend "Galactica Quorum"

- I posted some of my thoughts on BSG 4ep2 on the MYOKM forum. I didn't get to watch it until last night and had to avoid the blogspot for fear of getting spoiled so i thought i'd try to be conscientious here.

- I also posted my thoughts on the "There Will Be Blood" question on the forum to avoid spoiling.

- I need to finish my taxes but I feel like poop.

Just watched BSG. Good stuff.

Anybody else extremely annoyed by the stupid "Doctor Who: Next Friday at 8:30/7:30c" tag above the Sci-Fi logo the ENTIRE episode? I watched it on Sci-Fi HD, so I'm not sure if it was that way on the normal Sci-Fi. But I couldn't stand it. Very distracting.

Chris JC said...

Is Doctor Who back?

CQ has been in my LOVEFiLM (irritating spelling, but accurate) list for ages now, but they don't have any copies in.

This also happens with most of the slightly interesting stuff. Boo.

Thank's all for BSG podcasts help. I like the Ron Moore one. The water cooler is good but one guy talks too much it makes me feel like the other guys got a bunch of thoughts I don't get to hear, and the girl holds her own. But I've only cheacked out two episodes so I don't put much stake in disliking any thing yet.(did that make sense?Hmm).
Havent got a chance to get the CQ one yet.
I'm liking the third season so far, having to wait for the dvd's an all. The last episode I watched was the Boxing one :( starbuck should have one(Spoiler if your further behind then I)And "The Cheif should have lost..just my opinion..I'm trying not to get toooo into it One show obbsession is quite enough thank you. I have a random BSG question coming from someone who is halfway through Season 1. What's with the preview of the episode during the opening credits? I try not to look at them, but then, I've been trained by LOST.

And I'd like to call a Red Card on the person who put the very last episode of S1 on a separate disc that I have to wait to get from Netflix.

Holli

PalmerEldritch said...

holli, i'm not sure why they do that with the opening credits. but you get used to it. sort of. try to turn your brain off during that part so you don't process the flashes.

kim, welcome back! you ladies have been missed. how's the helicopter? how's T-Dot Traffic?

memphish said...

It's really weird. I just look away when the credits start and the music cues you when it's safe to look back, but it's an odd choice. I guess if you only have 10 minutes to watch each episode by seeing the opening and that you're covered?

Holli

t-dot kim said...

I didn't notice that with the credits...but then again, I don't notice most things with music cues...

P, T-Dot traffic was out of control yesterday. A truck rollover closed part of a major hwy for 5 hours. Sadly, it was carrying pigs, and they had to shoot 3 of them :( They had most of it under control when I started my shift, but there were a few pigs that got away, and were running around in residential areas.

- i highly recommend "El Orfanato (The Orphanage)" I think it comes out on DVD next week. very "The Turning Of The Screw" & also very reminiscent of "The Devil's Backbone"

- The BSG credits thing is a weird choice. I always fast forward. They were trying to go for a serial-like action packed hook to grab viewers but they also have a cold opening that usually ends with something dramatic.

Lol @Jordan re: the Doctor Who bug during BSG.
SciFi is indeed really horrible when it comes to those f-ing bugs in the corner of the screen. If it's any consolation, there have been many many BSG bugs constantly popping up during Who - albeit, not non-stop during the entire episode I grant you. It is a crappy trend that I wish there was some way of stopping.

So how's everyone been? :)

a tax joke for all you from (I'm guessing) the only CPA to post here.

2008 Tax Code...

The only thing that the IRS has not taxed yet is the male penis. This is due to the fact that 69% of the time it is hanging around unemployed, 10% of the time it is hard up, 20% of the time it is pissed off and 1% of the time it is in the hole. On top of that, it has two dependents and they are both nuts!

HOWEVER, effective January 1st, 2008, the penis will now be taxed according to size:

The brackets are as follows:

10 - 12' Luxury Tax $300.00

Bragging is subject to an additional $500.00 tax

8 - 10' Pole Tax $250.00

Bragging tax also applies

5 - 8' Privilege Tax $150.00

3 - 5' Nuisance Tax $30.00

Males exceeding 12' must file capital gains.

Anyone under 4' is eligible for a tax refund.

AND PLEASE!
DO NOT ASK FOR AN EXTENSION

Don't forget to file your returns by midnight tonight

Good luck on the interview Ally! What's it for?

RE: excuses. You are talking to the King ;) I hope I don't offend anyone here, or come off sounding like an amoral a-hole, but personally, I have no problem pimping out my family and using them for a made-up excuse within the bounds of good taste (i.e. I don't tell people someone just died, or has a serious illness or course). The "family issue" excuse is particularly potent b/c not only are people generally hesitant to question what the problem is (unless your boss is a relative or something - lol), they also are usually more willing to accept that your ETA back at work may be unpredictable.
This is of course assuming that you haven't over-used the "family issue" excuse in the past. It does have a limited usability, as any excuse does. Man I sound like I'm good at this - lol. I actually do show up for work on time and enjoy my job for the most part :)

Two things:

1. There's a guy who owns a diner in Texas who'd like to take some of those pigs off your hands.

2. Jon: You say it could have been worse. But how?

c. If those pigs knew about chicken fried bacon they'd be pretty damn nervous. Good things they weren't in Texas. But haven't they heard of Canadian bacon?

c.i. And speaking of Canadian bacon, Kim: is there a diner in Canadia that serves up some down home chicken fried Canadian bacon?

Chris JC said...

That BSG opening title thing is nothing new, it used to happen very effectively on Mission: Impossible and Space: 1999 (I don't think it was unique to shows with colons in the title, as I believe Thunderbirds did it too).

The drums are all right, but I'm noted among my close friends for considering the full version of the original Battlestar Galactica theme (by Stu Phillips and, I believe, Glen A Larson) to be one of the absolute greatest pieces of music ever written for any reason ever.

That's why I was very happy to hear it show up briefly in the miniseries during an official function. I hope to hear it on the show again some time.

PalmerEldritch said...

Jordan said...

I wouldn't worry Trevor. I have her winning myself. Although she's not my favorite, she's been the runner up the past 3 years. She's a powerhouse in this thing. The people love her.

Alessandra Ambrosio CRUSHES Erin Andrews 51-6! Yikes. Poor ESPN sideline girl. Hope nobody had her.

Trevor McFur said...

I think that Erin Andrews is cute for what she does, but she's not exactly in the same ballpark with some of the other women in the field. Probably not too surprising she got crushed.

Trevor McFur said...

It's weird to look at the standings and see everyone listed by their real, full names.

Jordan said...

I agree with you Trevor about Erin Andrews. Cute for what she does. But she has a pretty big online/college following. I figured shed do a tad bit better than that.

One thing I tried to warn people beforehand about. A good # of women call into this thing and vote. A bunch of my picks were specifically with that in mind.

PalmerEldritch said...

hmmm... women vote too?

i based the entire thing on Seattle's love of jailbait. uh-oh.

Trevor McFur said...

Hmm, I don't recall that warning. Seems fishy to me that we're hearing this now. I didn't notice any 'women that other women think are beautiful but guys know really aren't so hot' (ex. Gwyneth Paltrow) entries, but I could definitely see a backlash against some of the bigger names, like the Jessicas or ScoJo.

Jordan said...

The backlash is usually mainly against the trashier contestants.

"As for voting who Seattlites like, I guess that's probably the right idea. But I wouldn't go strictly based on guys' opinions. A surprising amount of women call in as well."

Jordan said...

The contest was easier before so many women got into it. Now you have to get in the mind of women a bit. Who like you pointed out THINK they know who men think are hot. So you have men trying to figure out what women think men will think, but also factoring in most women's inability to admit true hotness and usually going with the safer, less intimidating choice. lol.

Rhianna wins 35-28. Dammit.

I still say it's fishy. :)

The woman vote could hurt my prediction for a breakout year for Kim Kardashian, who may be the trashiest celebutard on the planet right now.

So I'm getting crazy and thinking about quitting my job in a few months and traveling through Europe for a while. Anybody, Euros especially, have any hidden gem places to suggest? I did the same type of trip 4 years ago and visited London, Paris, South of France, Switzerland, Germany, Italy, Athens, Vienna. This time I'm thinking about doing more eastern European countries and possibly some Nordic ones. Any suggestions?

Jordan said...

I'm with you on KK Trev. ;) I wanted to send her much further than I ended up doing.

[ally] said...

well if women are voting that throws off my whole game too.

i chose my women based on who i thought men would vote for. although, those would be the ones i would vote for anyway.

Not sure if anyone else posted this or has seen it, but it's official - WE'RE GETTING ANOTHER HOUR OF LOST before season's end. It looks like it will be a THREE hour finale (w00t!)

The only catch is...

We have to wain 2 weeks in between the first hour (on May 15) and the final 2 hours (on May 29). Ausiello has the details.

[ally] said...

on the one hand i'm excited cause it's 3 hours, or at least 2 back to back.

on the other hand, we have to wait for what will only be the longest 2 weeks ever!

Jordan - If you haven't been to Dublin, Amsterdam, Barcelona or Prague - they are all great cities. Prague was especially lovely. I've heard good things about Croatia but haven't been there myself. Scandinavia is expensive by reputation but again I haven't been.

Hidden gem - Monemvasia in the Peleponnese.

bleached hair and a lip ring? you'll have to update your avatar. or at least edit it with MS Paint.

jordan, the czech republic has a friggin' cathedral decorated in human bones. check that shit out if you travel through the area.

on the other hand, don't you need money to tour europe? money from... a job?

and what would your Playstation 3 do without you?!

[ally] said...

yeah we def need an updated picture of these recent events.

[ally] said...

and what would your Playstation 3 do without you?!

and more importantly, what would WE do without you?!?!?!

how dare you deprive us of you to travel!*

*i'll be traveling in june, but i'll still try to keep in touch while i'm away.

Trevor McFur said...

Wow, nobody likes their job. I'm starting a new one in July too. I've never been to Europe, so can't make any suggestions.

Ally, where are you going?

[ally] said...

I'm going to El Salvador in June for almost a month. My family lives over there, I'm just looking forward to some time away from paying bills and whatnot.

I'll still be paying bills, it just won't be my main focus.

[ally] said...

Anybody else traveling this year?

Trevor McFur said...

I'll be traveling to the Jersey shore.

I hope...

mb said...

I so miss travelling more :(

Very cool Ally and Jordan - I imagine the time away will be nice - right on!

Jordan - I would second that Prague suggestion. That is definitely one place I regret not getting to when I was over there - it is indeed supposed to be awesome. And I imagine the beer ain't too bad, right (anyone been there?).

Hubby's at a conference. I've done a little Freedom Trail sightseeing today, and I'm going to the MFA tomorrow then to Fenway tomorrow night. Saturday we're going to drive up the coast. Then back home early Sunday leaving the town to those crazy people who like to run 26.2 miles.

Anyone got a recc for where to eat before the game? Is the food at Fenway any good, or should we get something beforehand?

PalmerEldritch said...

have you been to Faneuil Hall yet?

there's a nearby Children's Museum and a Science Museum and an Aquarium if you've brought your young one.

and a Zoo of some sort.

if it's just you and the husband, maybe you want to skip all the kid activities though.

I went on a rugby tour to Prague - the Paris of Eastern Europe. Czech women are incredibly beautiful if that is your thing Jordan. However, the morning visit to the Staropramen brewery was brutal.

I am so jealous. I may not be going anywhere until October when we go to WDW. And I haven't been anywhere since hmmm...
the beach summer before last.

I suggest Budapest, Hungary. Most beautiful city in Eastern Europe. the Beer is inexpensive too.

I'm travelling to San Diego in July for Comic Con... anyone else?

memphish said...

Now I'm jealous. I miss San Diego.

Is Forgetting Sarah Marshall going to be good or forgettable?

Holli

PalmerEldritch said...

alirio, i might be. if we can find cheap airfare... :\

Jordan said...

Thanks for the suggestions guys! I'm getting excited just reading them. I too have heard that Prague is very cool. And Elias, I would tend to agree about the Czech women, at least from my few encounters. The last time I was in Europe people everywhere raved about Barcelona. Budapest sounds very cool too.

What I'm thinking about doing is just getting a 2 month unlimited train pass and going all over. Staying in youth hostels and sleeping on trains when I need to save some cash. That's what I did last time, but mainly to more popular destinations. The last time I also stayed a good part of the time in London and Cyprus where I have family.

Palmer, yeah money is definitely needed. I have a decent amount saved up right now, but not a ton. I'm going to try and sell my broken down CRX that I don't use anymore as well as some other stuff of mine. I Probably will end up with just enough to do this and come back with just enough to survive. One of the few pluses to being single as well as being thrifty/cheap. I figure I can afford to not work a couple months and have hopefully just enough to live off of when I get back home. I have a potential job for when I get back. Not a certain though, so there is some risk involved. But I freaking hate my current job right now and have wasted 2 years of my life on it. I sorta feel I have earned a bit of fun. Even if it is irresponsible and foolish. :P You need to enjoy life a little every now and then. What's the worst that could happen? Wait, don't answer that. Especially the older, more mature ones on here. lol. I figure I'm still relatively young, single, and have no kids that I know of. I might as well take advantage of not having too many responsibilities while I can.

Holli, it's gotten pretty good reviews so far. Richard Roeper said it would make his top 50 comedies of all time! I was a bit skeptical at first. Getting a bit sick of the whole, "From a friend of the guy who knows the guy who made Knocked Up" crap. But I guess this one my be pretty good.

that's cool jordan. you go do what you gotta do! make sure you bring back some pictures.

holli, i hope you're having fun in boston.

herlihy, thanks for keeping us updated. looks cool, the bleaching isn't as dramatic as i was imagining. but i tend to overreact in my head.

PalmerEldritch said...

Strange David Cross news... just wait til she finds out he's a never-nude.

herlihy, watch out with those piercings or this could be you!

/full throttle ftw

[ally] said...

Sheesh!

Nothing against him or anything, but that is an odd couple.

scrdmnkydst said...

Haha! Thanks everyone. my hair was red before, that's why the bleach made it go ginger... i'm just too lazy to put another red dye on it... maybe tomorrow...

Palmer - I don't think i'm going to get my septum pierced... but... getting this one has made me want some more.. Maybe an Anti-Eyebrow or a verticle Industrial...

[ally] said...

keep us posted, herlihy. i know i would never do any of those things, cause i'm a coward. so i'll live vicariously through you on that.

scrdmnkydst said...

aww. you should just go for it. I had my tongue ierced when i was 16, my mother would have killed me, so i waited until she went on holiday, which was a friday, on the saturday by 12pm i'd had it pierced.

30 Rock was awesome last night. I didn't get to watch The Office but I loved 30 Rock.

"You'll be back, dummy!"

memphish said...

I loved the Jack and Tracy parts, but Kenneth and Tim Conway did nothing for me. I feel like 30 Rock has hired that writer from Lost that gave us such classic lines as "well I guess he'll be expecting us" for their B story.

So I'm at Forgetting Sarah Marshall. I'll report in with a brief review when it's done. But here's the crazy thing-- Vantage Point is playing across the hall. For a badly reviewed by critics and Jordan movie, it certainly has staying power. (TWSS)

Must be a Memphis/Southern thing. I haven't seen it around here for a while. But it did IMO outstay it's welcome much longer than it should've. Which tells you one thing. Most Americans are retards. And yes, we already know this based on what makes up most of network programming.

Jordan said...

Hope it's good Holli. I am currently off work for 2 weeks, and could use something to do over the next couple days. This place can only hold my interest for so long. :P And the more I stay at home, the more that pile of dishes in my kitchen is freaking me out.

Bigger Dance update after conclusion of the 2nd day of first round contests. Trevor, Ally, and Andrew lead the pack with a 7 out of 8 score. Which puts them tied for 3826th place in the overall contest. Which one did you guys get wrong?

Stephanie said...

Jordan, my co-worker was trying to convince me to watch Awake. He said it was very creepy but he didn't like how the ending wasn't wrapped up. He doesn't want his movies to leave any room for imagination. Are most people like that? Am I the weirdo here or is he the retard of which you speak?

Alirio, I'm headed to the Con this year with my lil sis (she's a huge comic nerd) Any idea on where to stay and how to get around? I'm a bit nervous about flying half way across the country and surviving a week with a 15 year old in tow.

[ally] said...

so it sounds like a lot more people will be going to comic con. i'm jealous.

Jordan said...

Steph, He is one of the retards. Not you. Don't let all the backward hicks in Alabama make you think that you're the weird one. Imagination is one of the main things when it comes to movies, books, and any form of art. It takes imagination to make them. And depending on what the filmmaker had in mind, that is what they intended for you to get out of it as well. I can't stand how narrow minded people can be sometimes. And Holli, don't even try to flip that comment back on me regarding Crappage Point. :P

I've a got a travel-agent friend who is getting me a great price on airfare, but I'm going to have to research the hotel situation myself.

I have an old friend who lived in San Diego for a few years and will be asking him for tips.

I'm partial to getting a room at a hotel that offers free shuttle service to and from the convention center though... I don't want to have to rent a car or commandeer a bike.... :-)
