What the hell happened to monocles? That’s one fashion accessory that actually had a purpose. Most eye doctors don’t tell you that only one eye is bad because they want to sell you the full pair of glasses. Monocles are for smart people who had the wherewithal to ask if they really needed two lenses. My Pop used to wear a monocle around the house when I was growing up, said it made him feel rich. I love feeling rich, but I can’t find a damn monocle anywhere these days. What’s this world coming to?

I'm pretty sure the mobisodes are being released as planned 13 weeks before the launch of S4. Didn't Cuseloff say that was the plan at Comic Con?

Mass Effect even dorkier than most video games.

'Players can engage their avatars in a variety of sexual encounters during the game, though none between men or between men and male aliens, according to reports on several blogs. The human-alien duo are depicted kissing and caressing each other in a sex scene that The Straits Times English-language newspaper in Singapore reported ends with the alien saying, "By the gods, that was incredible, commander."'

Lost -- 8 new episodes left

So is ayone checking out Beowulf this weekend? It looks to me like it's right in that creepy area, where the CGIs look just a little bit too realistic. I'm curious to see how it does, though.

PalmerEldritch said...

i definitely want to check it out sometime soon, trevor. not sure about this weekend though.

Jordan said...

Yay! Plenty of Cavemen left for everyone! (sarcasm off)

I'm with you Trevor. I don't like that creepy dead inside style of cgi at all. It just bothers me. Either make it cartoony or just go with real actors.

Glad to see there's still a few episodes of 30 Rock left. Last night's ep had me rolling with some hilarious one liners. One of my favs: "I'm not racist. Remember that time I asked that black guy if he liked Sideways?"

Battlestar Galactica nerds: i just watched "Razor." it was really good, like an above average episode of the series (which is pretty damn good).
i had a lot of reservations what with it being a flashback episode and feeling like the show derailed in the 2nd 1/2 of season 3, but i thought it was a really interesting story and well worth catching.
it airs next weekend on Sci Fi

Television Round-Up:
Pushing Daisies - Still consistently wonderful. Like some other blogspotters, i was struck by how morbid this show can be while also obviously saccharine. The multiple stabbing was shockingly gruesome and _llol_ hilarious. apparently the full season order has been stymied by the writers' strike but Bryan Fuller already retooled the last episode we'll get as a season (series?) finale.

My Name Is Earl - "Damn It! You bogarted my inducing drugs." funniest line of the night. This show & Jaime Presley = pure synergy. She and Eddie Steeples (Darnell) could easily carry a spin-off if Jason Lee needs to fly off in his scientology spaceship.

30 Rock - This show has steadily grown on me as it's steadily morphed from a jokey show about the behind-the-scenes of The Tracy Jordan show into an office-esque serial about the eccentric CEO and his nutty underlings.
"Can we have our money now?"
"Tell her you want her privates and your privates to do a high-five!"

The Office - a solid, if a little bit of a downer, episode. I hate Jan now, and I was loving broken, despondent Jan. The B-story was a good balance of frivolity. The Shrutes playing ping pong was amazing.

Scrubs - i caught up with Scrubs in syndication, and i enjoy it for the weird blend of M.A.S.H. & Family Guy that it is, but it really feels like this season is running on fumes. Other than the 'don't know anybody's name' story, i can't tell you what happened in this episode. The call-back jokes are starting to get a bit musty.

The Simpsons - i'm a comic book nerd. I know who those cameos were. It still wasn't funny. Also with the insane way in which the episode shifted focus, the show felt like one of those overly clever commericials where you don't know what product is being sold. Redeeming joke: the "Spiderman No More" parody cover featuring comicbook-store-guy

Dexter - Shit, that was a good episode. Things are tense again. Dexter is getting sloppy and everyone he knows is fucking his life up. I don't really know how to read Dexter himself in his development. Is he falling back into bad habits after being in the 'pink cloud' for most of the season? Does he 'need' to kill again or just want to? The season's tap-dancing seems to be out of the way, hooray!

Brotherhood - out of nowhere this show breaks off a great episode too. In a telling bit, last week's election wasn't even mentioned in the 'previously on'. Focusing on Michael seems to be key. Tommy's just too much of a boyscout, and when he tries to be bad it just comes off silly.

Weeds - Was that a series finale? sure seemed like one, despite Nancy's ambiguous legal future. I liked it, even though it still felt like they were winging it, and simultaneously unwilling to close the book on any possible storylines. Still appreciate the love for Pittsburgh.

That Arrested Development link reminds me of the pirate DVD of Spider-Man i bought in 2002 and still keep for sentimental reasons.

The subtitles were, of course, hilarious as they usually are, but I can currently only remember Aunt May wanting "acid sauce" for the turkey (instead of cranberries).

I like how you have something on there for everyone to enjoy, Steph. Those shoes are cute! I like the burgundy/bronze ones, but have no idea what I would wear them with, they're just too cute to look at.

Elias, I never saw Straight to Hell but I did see Sid and Nancy. Did you?

Ralph, Any update on special 'Lars? I know part of the team is out of place currently, but doesn't her bitch have class or something so you could record then? Just asking and looking forward to the special ep.

I bought the Futurama DVD for purely selfish reasons.

Steph - Sid & Nancy is dark but probably a much better film than Straight to Hell, which only has cult casting (Sy Richardson, Joe Strummer, Elvis Costello, Dennis Hopper, The Pogues) and the best tagline ever:

"A story of blood, money, coffee, guns and sexual tension"

I've got a copy of Straight to Hell, but never watched it.

It's from a set of DVDs (three or four - I can't remember) signed by Alex Cox that the wife has still laying around from her former life on a DVD magazine.

So far I've only watched Death and the Compass which was bollocks.

Pushing Daisies airs an hour later than usual tonight. 9 Eastern and Pacific, 8 Central. So if you want Pushing Daisies and not Shrek The Halls on your DVR, change your time or double check your recording guide accordingly.

Watchmen set photos. No actors, just sets.

Thanks for the info on Pushing Daisies, Holli. The change in time messes up my plans to see it in HD. Oh well, maybe next time. Or next year.

Elias and Chris, I hope you're doing your part to avert this crisis.

I'll certainly try to give it a go. I do need to find a pub that hasn't been shut down or transformed into a classy modern sports pub that's been designed purely for 19 year olds in tracksuits and gold jewellery to stand around drinking brightly coloured kiddy booze, yelling at each other and assuming this is what having a nice evening is, before it eventually degenerates into a pavement full of blood, glass and vomit.

Frankly, as it stands I'd rather put on Santa Claus: The Movie and drink some sherry. Even in April.

Is anyone planning to watch Tin Man?

Morgan and I are so psyched for Tin Man. I have it set on the DVR. It looks like it will be awesome!! BTW, I'm going today to talk to the financial aid lady at the local community college! Yay education!

Yay, Steph! Good luck on your financial aid ventures.

The Dove

Let's all meet up on Quiz Night @ The Victoria!

Those pictures of Fabio and Clooney are too funny. Why did they both need to be nearly nude? Is that how we're supposed to imagine them when they slap fight?

A big waste of time, my meeting with financial aid. Those people are useless. All they do is push loans. Yeah, what a great idea to encourage young folks to start out life in debt.

Hey, does anyone know Ava Maria from Hitman? I can't find it on iTunes. Any suggestions?
