Guys, i dont think i am gonna get the DVDs early. FUCK. i am the most pissed about this than anyone. looks like you will get the dharmalars RE-view when everyone else does it.

Palmer.
1080p, 37inch Vizio LCD. It looks fucking sensational! So far all we have gotten to see on it is Spiderman 3 (free with ps3). Looks great, shitty movie.

We picked up Christmas Story last night. Looks sensational but it seemed like the lip sync was a bit off. but that may be the film makers fault.

300 looks pretty good, but the production put a grain filter on the footage, so it looks purposfully grainy. it would be like picking up grindhouse on hi-def

I watched the Invincible, looked alright, too much gold lighting in the film to get a real sense of tone on the characters.

Pixar Shorts was pretty good, but the previews for Pirates 1, Ratatouille look INCREDIBLE!

Going to pick up LOST on tuesday most likely, unless my guy calls me in the next 2 minutes.

May pick up Superbad, Ratatouille or Crank today.
but chances are we will just wait for lost, before buying a crap load of movies today.

Crank was shot on Sony Digital Cameras...so it is supposed to be the most optimum picture quality of any Live Action Hi-Def product available.

so yeah, i am all about blu-ray now and my amazon wish list reflects that!

OH YEAH... CE3K and Casino Royale look outstanding on Blu-Ray!!!

Thanks Holli for the info! I linked to it at the SPLOG.

Also, X-Files casting news

Ralph,
Worry not about having a PRE-view, we all want to hear the Dharmalars take, whether it be early or late.

37 inch LCD eh? Right the f*ck on! I am so loving mine (only 32" tho - is TWSS appropriate? that's a frightening thought)
I agree CGI animation looks excellent on it. I also recorded the Shrek the Halls special from ABC HD (w/DVR) and that looks awesome. I will also pretty much watch anything on Discovery HD now.

Next purchase to justify is indeed a Blu-Ray player. I want to watch everything in HD now (sadly not possible).

X-Files casting news

Oh, dear Lord.

Presumably Eddie Izzard, Sarah Silverman and Ja Rule are all yet to be announced?

Does XBox or PS3 damage LCD screens?
I didn't enjoy 30 Rock much last night.

t-dot kim said...

Really Steph, I loved 30 Rock last night. It had a few LOL moments

PalmerEldritch said...

steph, i sure hope that they don't damage LCD screens. otherwise, i will be screwed (twss).

had my PS3 for a number of months and haven't noticed any issues with the LCD screen. although i did have to buy an HDMI cable in order to get 1080i. yes, my tv is only 1080i and not 1080p. anyhow, the component cables that came with the PS3 could only output 720p.

ralph, did you get the latest greatest firmware for your PS3? you can update it over ye olde interweb. supposed to smooth some Blu-Rays and lets you upscale DVDs. of course, yours may have shipped with fairly recent firmware.

i'm looking forward to the holidays cuz my brother will be in from California and i'll bring my PS3 to my folks' place with their 42" (or so) 1080p tv with surround sound. muhahahaha!

ralph, did you get the five free Blu-Rays via mail thing? http://www.bluraysavings.com/

i'm still waiting for mine to come in. hopefully soon. jordan, did you get yers yet?

Looks like there are more sequences from the Dark Knight that Nolan shot for IMAX that will be shown in IMAX theaters. My fingers (and toes, and legs, and eyes) are crossed that one of the prints makes its way here

probably slim chance

(sigh)

Will we get the first double kablammo since the begining of September?

PalmerEldritch said...

yes. yes, we will.

ralph and the PS3 gang, PS3 to be upgraded to go Profile 1.1

which means picture in picture for commentary in future blu-rays.

yes, the BLU-RAYS OF THE FUTURE.

Stephanie said...

Do your earbuds shock you this time o' year?

Stephanie said...

The Smiths will see Speed Racer in the theater. Very rare event.

Jordan said...

Good news about the ps3 firmware update. I just hope it includes the rumored added divx support. Currently you can stream mpeg videos from your computer to your ps3. But most vids out there are divx. It would be awesome to watch all my magic box material on my 42" lcd instead of my crappy computer monitor.

Jordan...forgetting something in your post...?

Check these photos out from the flood we had over here in the nw this past week. Yikes!

The pics are of a town called Chehalis, which is about an hour and a half from Seattle. Not good times at all.

Oh, thank mb. Belated double kablammo!!! :P

Ahhh...thanks Jordan, I feel better :)

Indeed, the flooding has been nucking futs down here too. Several outlying towns (like Vernonia look like N. Orleans did. And I don't remember when I-5 has been underwater to this extent.

mb said...

Good photos jordan - that gives a sense of the extent of it

Wow. That's a flood.

So...after much hesitation, I've finally started watching The Office US.

And it weirdly pains me to say how much I love it. Been watching it online, so I'm only on season two, episode...six. The Fight.

So yeah. Just thought I'd let everyone know that I'm finally joining in on the fun. And oh, Michael-what an ass.

PalmerEldritch said...

gillian, it's definitely different than the UK version. much more... syruppy? but it's a heck of a lot of fun. and there's more than 12 episodes and two christmas specials. so, that's a bonus.

washingtonians and oregonians, holy crap. that's a lot of water. hope your roads won't collapse when the water goes away. that's a pain. oh. and if Tim Kring throws in a sassy Oregonian flood survivor then i may not tune in to season 3. :p

All of The Perry Bible Fellowship strips are some of the funniest stuff ever, that one just fit the blogspot too perfectly.

went out and cut us down a tree out in the snow. now it's up in our living room and the cats are trying to decide the best approach for climbing to the top. i love christmas.

PalmerEldritch said...

ally, did i find the right tree at Lowes?

Anonymous said...

Yeah, I'm finding that in order to make this version last longer, they actually show Michael being good at his job every once in a while...I'm nearly finished season two, and I'd just like to say, that the present Dwight got Michael was genius. I want a jersey that says who its from. I would so wear it.

Ok, not really. Unless of course, it actually said it was from Dwight. Also, are there more in depth Dwangela scenes? I mean, aside from knowing glances in the office...and the foot making out session at Jim's party...

Stephanie said...

Gillian, season three is heavy on the Dwangela. Sprinkles.

[ally] said...

Yes, Kirk, that's the right tree. Good to see my work has made it all the way to where you are.

PalmerEldritch said...

woo-hoo! i saw those on the otherside of the store and scrambled to get a picture of it.

nicely done, ally!

[ally] said...

Thanks for the stripping Santa, Steph. Just what I needed to see ;)

Thanks for the compliment! Good to see my work is finally out there, of course it wasn't too much fun having to be forced to work on Christmas stuff in August.

mb said...

Thanks Steph - lol
Well, now we know what Santa does on his off-time

Thanks for the pics Palmer - I'm actually still getting over the original rumors that the big 3 casting for Trek was going to be Matt Damon, Adrian Brody (Spock), and Gary Sinese (Bones) - I was very psyched for that. Don't know anything about Pine, but Zachary Quinto certainly fits the bill as Spock, and I'm sure Karl Urban can pull off a cranky 23rd century physician.

mb said...

FINALLY!

Someone recorded a crappy video of the Lost theatrical trailer fro Season 4. You can barely make out any of the audio and the video is shaky and crap, but at least Dark UFO also has slowed down version

memphish said...

Thanks for that link MB. That saves me $6 and 2 hours going to a movie I don't really want to see for those 27 seconds. Doesn't look like there is much new in those screencaps. Maybe Damon and Carlton haven't delivered anything/much to ABC's promo department to work with.

Everyone have their DVDs lined up for tomorrow? I'll be at Target at 8 to get them for $37.99. No Blu-Ray for me. I couldn't justify the $400 to then pay double for the DVDs. I was kind of hoping we wouldn't find a Wii so I could get the PS3, but we found a Wii.

Trevor McFur said...

I wonder if there was any real substance to those rumors, or if they were just some fanboy wet-dream casting that somehow morphed into 'this is who they're looking at'. Because I heard them too ... and the one where Russell Crowe was being set to play the villain ... seemed way too good to be true!

andrew. said...

for the Batman obsessed:
Batmanimatrix

i don't like the full-body armor batman. it kind of defeats the purpose of dressing up like a bat.

mb said...

Yeah - that may be true Trevor. After all, I think I read that at the "Innaccurate" Movie Database (IMDB.com)

Well. Season three sure has started with a bang. I imagine this is how the UK version would have worked when Tim finally decided to leave. Well, if he decided to leave, that is.
