OK...I know you're all waiting for TLI, but I saw Transformers this evening and it was AMAZING. We were cheering, we were laughing, it was sooooo much fun. I hope everyone enjoys it as much as I did.

PS> J in the 206, I'll pay up tomorrow. (My comp is down, will explain later)

Still about, kids. 4.30am now, so REALLY bedtime for me.

Are you suggesting I might wake up to find new TLI?

Freakin' awesome.

Was it more than meets the eye?

Well then - I wasn't planning on it - but perhaps I'll give T-formers a shot (when, I have no idea - lol)

From last thread:
Andrew - OUCH man! I'm in the Who-boat w/Cliff?!?! (sigh) - Whovians come in all shapes i guess.

The Ratatouille (sp?) report:
bottom line = 4 rats out of 5
I almost went 3.5, but I don't really have much bad to say about it except that both the humor and the drama were a BIT duller than previous Pixar offerings, and I think there is a significant difference between 3.5 and 4, in that you tend to think 3.5 basically = a little more than 3, and I think this was definitely above average. AND the biggest awesome suprise I did not know about was when I saw the music score credit at the end read Michael frikkin Giachino!! Which made sense to me b/c the music was certainly spot on and one of things I was enjoying while watching.

All Pixar's stuff is entertaining to me, and this was no exception. And the visuals of Paris were excellent - definitely made me nostalgic. Another DEFINITE highlight is Peter O'Toole as the nemesis food critic - pitch perfect as you might expect. Janeane Garofalo was also spot on I thought.

I think I take a rat away from my rating only b/c the dialogue was a little less snappy than previous Pixar stuff. I liked it - but I also could've waited for the DVD.

Most of all I'm thrilled that my daughter can actually sit through a 2 hour movie now!

Look eagerly forward to new TLI!

I click the link thinking Ralph has created this thread. But no. It's T-Dot Kim OMGing Transformers.

I missed the whole Transformer things first time around, and I'll probably miss it this time time because mini-me's not really into the whole destroying the world stuff yet. My only Transformer dealings is in trying to get one of the figures to Trans and Re Form which I think only 6-12 year olds are actually good at.

MB, thanks for the Rat review. We're thinking about a Thurs. family outing, but if mini-me isn't into it, maybe we'll just go to the pool or play golf instead and wait for the DVD.

Holli

P.S. Kim, can we get a TLI ETA?

Stephanie said...

good morning all. Can't wait to hear all the reviews on Transformers.

I really wish Kimberley wouldn't tease us like this.

2 LOST questions for the blog today as well from me.

What is causing Jack to see Christian Shephard on the Island? And where the hell is Christian?

Quick sidetrack for the Doctor Who guys.

Kylie is a GO!

Hoo... ray?

PalmerEldritch said...

hmmm... looks like Transformers is a must sometime soon then. but i'll have to find a way to avoid the hordes of annoying people. hmm...

i really hope that Jazz still talks like Scatman Crothers. and can still use the power of Rock N' Roll to immobilize the Decepticons.

PalmerEldritch said...

Please, don't let this be true. Did this actually happen?

Funny shit though.

Arnulf's photos said...

memphish: First question first: I think there's something special with people who can see someone who died off the island on the island. (Weird sentence, perhaps, but that's more or less right, I think.) Remember how Richard reacted when Ben as a boy told him he'd seen his mother on the island. When Richard asked him if she had died on the island and Ben said no, Richard looked kind of freaked out. The fact that Jack sees his dead father on the island is one of the MANY signs that there's something about him that's quite extraordinary.

Funny that, how people seem to forget that Jack is special too. There's all this talk about Locke bein special and Ben being special and Walt being special and what not, but for some reason, Jack is often forgotten as a key person. The writers are constantly trying to remind us of this, but it's rarely discussed. "Stranger in a strange land" is a good example of this. I think this actually was a key episode for the understanding of Jack's character and his importance. When the Thai chick said "YOU... ARE... A LEADER!!!", nobody really seemed to notice the importance of this statement. This episode told us about when Jack was marked as a leader, a pretty salient moment in his life. Still, people wrote the whole thing off as a filler. (Ok, I'll admit that this might have been one of the weaker episodes of the season, but still....)

Naomi's Moses reference of Jack is just one of many other attempts to remind us of his importance. His name has two important hints: first of all the whole shepard-thing, but what about the fact that HIS NAME IS COGNATE WITH JACOB???

In short: answer to your first question: because he's special.

Answer to the second question: Christian Shepard is dead as a door knob. This has been confirmed by the writers many times. As to where his BODY is: that's another question....

I'm so excited about seeing Transformers! I wish I could see it today, but I've got plans (I know, who thought...me? plans? out?) So I'll probably go see it tomorrow.

memphish said...

Funny video Palmer. Serves that woman right. What a doof. So does anyone know anyone with an iPhone?

Arnulf, thanks for the answers. I guess Jack is "special" which his ability to fix Sarah showed us as well, but he always seems to be fighting against the Island and he's not on Jacob's list, so this confuses me. I think this "specialness" on the Island may only come at times when Jack is physically tapped out, like in White Rabbit and Tale of Two Cities where he hasn't slept, is dehydrated and suffering from PTSD, not to mention guilt.

Stephanie said...

arnulf, Stranger... sucked so bad I never would have gotten that out of it.
Palmer, good to see the local news can make an interesting story seem lame in other cities as well. I thought it was just Birmingham.

aimee is lost said...

Craig got an iPhone, that lucky bastard. I'll get a second generation one, unless I get a fat pay raise soon.

Stephanie said...

Damn. I'm going to have to watch Desperate Housewives.

Stephanie said...

Craig would be the first person I've heard of to get one.

PalmerEldritch said...

craig got an iphone? hopefully, he's got mad loot. that's a two grand investment thanks to the locked in two year deal with at&t.

PalmerEldritch said...

although, i hope for his sake, i'm wrong. but i read a two year contract with at&t for about 50 a month.

memphish said...

And with that AT&T contract you get service that makes you long for dial-up I hear. Hotspots. Yeah! Relying on AT&T for internet access -- red card.

Holli

PalmerEldritch said...

now that we just talked shit about it, its going to kick ass and be cheap and craig will be enjoying his iphone while the rest of us schmoes are stuck in the stone age.

memphish said...

I'll admit I'm in the stone age. I forget to take my old, crap cell phone with me most of the time. I just can't figure out why I need to spend $600 when I rarely range more than 5 miles from my house.

Holli

Stephanie said...

You need it for emergency blogspot postings, Holli. Or at least that's what I'd need it for.

PalmerEldritch said...

oh, and aimee, see if we can get Craig to review his iPhone for us.

PalmerEldritch said...

steph, brilliant! and well worth the $600 and two year AT&T contract.

i wonder how much a CrackBerry is...

memphish said...

And if you get an iPhone, you can be like Lindsay Lohan.

I would like to be able to emergency post to the blogspot though.

Holli

PalmerEldritch said...

so, lindsay lohan went from little kid from The Parent Trap, to wholesome but a little jailbaity, to disgusting stick woman, to horrible hose-beast and coke whore? but now she's playing with an iPhone in rehab?

will she use it to POST TO THE BLOGSPOT?!?!?!

memphish said...

Palmer, $10 for a large with 3 toppings. Oh wait, you mean a Black Berry, not a Pink Berry. Has anyone else heard about that crazy yogurt that has infected LA and NYC?

Holli

PalmerEldritch said...

if you could use the frozen yogurt as a phone, then i'd be all over that.

aimee is lost said...

I've been with Cingular for years (now AT&T) and I love them, never had a problem with them. For me, the release of the iPhone is the equivalent of the premiere of a new Star Wars movie for "those people", or the big deal that the Playstation 3 was for "those people". I'd have one right now if I had $600 to spare, but I spent it on moving into an apartment. Fucking priorities.

I'm going to tell Craig to post something to the blogspot from his iPhone, and tell us how awesome he is.

Ralph- said...

transformers was GREAT. talk about it more on the podcast tonight. My Sister teared up when Optimus Prime showed up on screen. i am sure that i can say the same thing about her brother. SO AWESOME!

Stephanie said...

Cingular has been ok for me. I just can't use my phone within a 2 mile radius of my house and like Holli, I don't venture out much further except for work. That's probably because I live in Podunk, Alabama.
It'd be sweet to get a little TLI to listen to while cleaning out the pool today.

Stephanie said...

ralph-, tell me one thing. Did they get rid of the lips?

Ralph- said...

They aren't lips, as much as they are Mouthes. I thought that they looked fine. In fact it did not bother me one bit. When Optimus Prime rolls up and transforms he does not have his face guard up, but there is no denying that this is Optimus Prime. He has an autobot symbol on his grill, he is a giant red and blue big rig and he has that unforgetable voice.

My only advice to all of you that are planning on seeing this, it get far enough back from the screen so that you can watch the film without shifting your eye back and forth. The last 45 minutes of the movie will put your eyes and brain through a visual blender. I am not kidding. when i go and see this on WED. i am gonna sit far back and try to catch all the imagry that is stabbed into your brain. So much handheld camera and quick cuts that it is really tough to keep your eyes focused on any one thing. it is out of control meyhem.

Jordan said...

I have to agree with Kim and Ralph. Very bad ass. I went and saw the first show yesterday at the big fancy theater where all the nerds stand in line and whatnot. It was a blast. The crowd was so into it. They cheered for just about everything. The Simpsons movie trailer got a big reaction as well. Biggest cheer was probably when you first saw Optimus Prime. And when he first says, "Autobots roll out". Good stuff. I can't say that everybody will have the same experience. But if you fall into the age range that gets transported back to your childhood with this movie, you'll love it.

PalmerEldritch said...

kim, jordan, and ralph, i'm going to have to skip Fantastic Four and go right to Transformers, aren't I?

anyone seen the new toys? they suck? or no?

some of the Alternators line is badass. i should go find my Grimlock and put him on my bookshelf.

aimee is lost said...

I had that same experience (being transported back to my childhood) when I saw TMNT, but somehow I anticipate the Tranformers being even better since it's live action.

Jordan said...

That would be a yes Palmer. The Fantastic Four movies are quite lame imo. This movie isn't.

PalmerEldritch said...

aimee, TMNT was fantastic. thanks for recommending it so heartily oh so many weeks ago. i'm really hoping for a sequel.

PalmerEldritch said...

jordan, the first Fantastic Four movie was fun. kind of lame but i went in thinking it was for little kids, which it was. so, it lived up to my expectations.

i'm also a fan of Mr. Fantastic from his time as the title character in the Horatio Hornblower movies. you've got Reed Richards on a boat fighting the French with Doctor Who (Number 8) and Apollo from nuBSG. but, yeah, from everything i've heard, Transformers sounds about 9 billions time better than FF.

Is McGann in Hornblower?

Really, try to track down Withnail & I (don't rely on a BBC America showing - you need the swears) to see the Eighth Doctor go and stay in a cottage with the Shalka Doctor and be threatened with unwanted sexual action in the night by Vernon Dursley wearing only his underwear and some make-up.

All while being threatened by Ken Boon.

It's a classic.

PalmerEldritch said...

GhostWatch, Jamie Bamber as Mr. Kennedy and Paul McGann as Mr. Bush. The next American president will obviously be named Mr. Hornblower.

Holli, thanks for that video. That's hilarious.

PalmerEldritch said...

parents of little kids!

i'm planning some strategery for seeing Los Transformadores. think a 9 am showing would be full of childrens? i'm looking to avoid crowds.

memphish said...

Palmer, make sure a 9am showing isn't one of those Mommy and Me things. They usually have the lights up and are full of the most horrible children and nursing moms. In fact, odds are anyone who needs to take their kid to a 9 am showing is someone who doesn't know how to control their kid. I'd suggest calling trying to call the theatre and getting a real live person (tough, I know) and ask them their experience with 9 am show times.

What did you guys think of JJ Abram's Bad Robot "CLOVERFIELD" Trailer? i heard that the whole movie take place from the point of view of Home Video Cameras! that thing looked badass!

aimee is lost said...

I hope Richard Alpert knew what he was doing: Problems with permanent cosmetics

Jordan said...

Ralph, I wasn't sure what to think. That trailer was pretty ambiguous. What is the movie even about? All it showed was some sort of explosions. I don't know if I could take an entire movie of the handheld cameras. That might be a bit much. Looked promising overall.

Surprising to say the least.

and go vote for Ralph. i did. and just look at me now!

Palmer,
Holy crap! didn't see that coming. Yeah - I think it could work. But it could get a little silly REAL easy - as long as they keep writing her part along the lines of the Runaway Bride and don't try to dip into the Catherine Tate Show well for humor, I'm down with it.

Since Martha's supposed to be returning, that might be an odd and/or interesting mix. yeah - the more i think about it - i'm interested.

Ghost - did you post earlier that Kylie is definitely the Xmas guestr star? I would say that that worries me, but so did Piper and Tate, and I ended up liking both of them. So, again, I'm interested!

PLEASE. i know i can count on you and all of your friends to vote.

ralph, the shameless plugs across the internet have begun.
