very funny, ralph. posting that when you've never gotten past page three of The Watchmen. you must think you're a real Comedian.

Woo hoo! I'm typing this from my tv! Let's see if Palmer can figure it out.

And in my fine habit of posting on old threads when there's a new one - here's a re-post:

lmao Palmer - would that not freak Kim out if suddenly all these Lost nerds start showing up at t-dot clubs. Kim, I hope I haven't just ruined your nightlife - lol

and I'm starting to think this kid's nickname may actually end up being "The Deuce" - I'm getting pretty used to that name.

Ralph - you have the goods on me - I am at your mercy - lol

is jordan typing from.... his brand new Playstion 3?!

that'd be badass. i'd've gotten one the other day if the store hadn't been sold out.

going back on saturday. i want to find a cheap HDMI cable somewhere so i can enjoy 720p or 1080i goodness. too bad my tv can't do 1080p. then again, most of the games are 720p anyhow.

I also done posted on the old thread. I just keep it open and refresh every so often, so I miss the new ones. Here's my tedious, tedious rant:

Following recent talk of the PS3 price cut - allow me to bring you up to date with the situation over here:

Thanks, Sony

So in short, for just £125 more than the new 80 gig version (Reuters say that's $254 - the total price of the UK machine being $863) we can get one with a 20 gig smaller hard drive, another controller and two games that you probably won't get to choose what they are.

Add this to the fact that, because of the use of some cheaper innards, the European PlayStation 3 is only mildly compatible with PlayStation and PS2 games instead of the fully compatible Japanese and US version and you've got a pretty pertinent reason why no fucker is buying the giant bastard.

I'd still quite like to win one, though. But not buy one.

memphish said...

Keep an eye out for this guy today, and if you hear creepy music -- run!

Holli

PalmerEldritch said...

ghostwatch, was that incompatibility issue with PS2 games fixed by a firmware update?

the price drop was a great move by Sony. so many people who wanted to get one said "i refuse to buy one until the price drops." now that the price dropped, they can finally get a PS3 without having to eat crow.

my Dharmalars shirt came today. It's a really high quality shirt, even better than i expected. The golden-rod ticket fell out during transit though, please send another.

I downloaded spyware while trying to get the survival guide from the blogspot. I thought the reason Vista was so sluggish was because of all the safety programs. Why am I getting all this spyware anyway? I hate Vista.

Ralph- said...

Hey, does anyone listen to Lost Community podcast?

PalmerEldritch said...

hmmm... click your little Windows logo button thing, click in the area right above labeled "Start Search" and type in Defender

Windows Defender should come up. double click on that and then choose Scan.

that's Windows' built-in anti-spyware stuff.

PalmerEldritch said...

and, steph, if you don't have User Account Control (UAC) turned on, you could try that. it'll prompt you a bajillion times whenever something wants to download or install. then you can cancel anything that you're unsure about (might be spyware, etc).

but it'll warn you about everything so it might get annoying. hopefully, the spyware can't circumvent that.

Windows Logo -> Control Panel

then in the top right search area type in User Account Control

then choose Turn User Account Control (UAC) on or off

then make the check box checked off if you want UAC on and then choose OK

Also, if anyone knows about The Lost Community ripping on us on their episode 29, let me know what you heard.

PalmerEldritch said...

ralph, what's the Lost Community Podcast. and, oh, i guess i don't listen to it.

also, that's a great letter that you got published. well written and heartwarming and all that. did it get published as a full page thing or is that just in your avater? either way, congrats.

Trevor McFur said...

I listened to a few episodes of the Lost Community podcast once upon a time ... gave it up because for whatever reason, I thought it seemed a little slick. They're on the Lost Poscasting Network, though, so it's easy enough to find and download if you want to hear what they said.

Mike Campbell said...

I'll watch the watchmen and i would watch the watchmen's pannel. I can't wait for that flippin movie. Hope it doesn't suck like most of the alan moore's work to movie form.

From Hell = Totally different then the graphic novel, but an ok movie.

League - Don't get me started.

V = Eh..one of my favorite graphic novels so i didn't really like the movie.

Ralph- said...

their episode is not available for download. i just heard that they talked shit on our shirt promoting. i would like to see what they had to say.

Johnny Ghostwatch said...

The Euro PS3 compatibility issue has not been fixed.

I believe now that all PlayStation games play, but not a huge amount of PS2 games (those that do run, rarely run perfectly). I don't think an update will ever make it totally compatible - it needs to have the actual processor in it like the US and Japanese version.

Ralph- said...

oh. and this is just a portion of the page. but i am the first letter on there! and Mike Allred is kind of my online buddy now and values my opinion. On his message board he asked me what parts i laughed at in his latest issue.

andrew. said...

i gave the Lost Community a couple of listens when they started up but turned it off for similar reaons to Trevor. They sound like a zany morning show. They & the Ravingcraps have a mutual fanclub which might explain why they've got a MYOKMwSAS vendetta.

PalmerEldritch said...

ralph, that's very cool. but is he coming to ComicCon and having CactusCooler with you?

ghost, that blows. it's supposed to be software emulated on the Euro PS3... so, it might be fixable by a firmware upgrade. befriend someone who has one and find out!!! i'll poke around online after lunch.

burger day. wendy's. eat burgers, everybody. except jimmy. that dude eats healthy. actually, since Ben and Ralph keep him in a cage, i guess he eats whatever they feed him...

Benjamin said...

Andrew - The goldenrod ticket is apparently coming under separate cover from the shirt, so there's maybe still a chance.

I didn't know that some randos on another podcast were ripping us. It makes me feel sad, because I don't like being ripped on, but it also makes me feel important because strangers know enough about me to insult me. I think it's a net gain, emotionally.

I'm wearing my shirt now, so I guess our constant huckstering worked.

Ralph may have not read Watchmen yet, but I've been into that shit for years, and I have enough cred to pull off this graphic. I think.

Ralph- said...

If the image of Ink Face were a pie chart, The Dharmalars portion of the picture would depict how much knowlege i have of watchmen and the rest of the image would be Bens knowlege on the watchmen.

oh. and i know his real name, that was a joke

APOLOGIES TO YOU ALL:

Initially, at launch, approximately 3% of PlayStation and PlayStation 2 titles had minor compatibility issues, including poor audio, system freezes or controller malfunctions. Popular games reported to have these glitches included Tekken 5 and Gran Turismo 4. Many games had also been reported to have problems with garbled or unreadable text on-screen and generally blurry image quality, but the January 24, 2007 software release, which updated the system to version 1.50, has fully resolved this issue.

AND NOW FOR EUROPE!

In order to reduce manufacturing costs, the Emotion Engine (EE) and Graphics Synthesizer (GS) are not included in PAL consoles. As originally planned, dedicated hardware support has since been removed from the North American and Japanese models. The new 80 GB model released in North America will also lack hardware support for legacy titles.

SONY APPEAR TO BE "SHARING THE LOVE"

Software emulation is used in place of hardware support and as a result, backward compatibility for PlayStation and PlayStation 2 games is reduced. Backward compatibility is improved periodically through PlayStation 3 System Software updates, however Sony has stated that its focus will shift to developing content exclusively for the PS3.

On March 20, 2007 Sony released a compatibility list; 1,782 of the 2,451 PS2 games (72%) released in Europe had noticeable issues, minor issues or no known issues, with the remainder being incompatible with the console. In system software update v1.80, support was added for upscaling of PlayStation and PlayStation 2 games when using software emulation. Upscaling can improve picture quality in some situations.

SORRY - NORMAL SERVICE RESUMED

People only trash talk other podcasts for the same reason they trash talk people; when they feel threatened or intimidated. The 'Lars and MYOKOM w/ SaS are in a league of their own, and those Ravensuck type people just don't get it, not to mention are also jealous by the caliber of fans they tend to draw in. Any podcast can find an audience. But only the truly awesome ones can find a loyal army of hardcore badasses.

Trevor McFur said...

Andrew, I think that you hit the nail on the head ... it was like listening to a morning radio show doing a podcast. Part of the appeal of the podcasts I like is that they sound like fans talking about the show, just like the rest of us (except funnier).

For the Shavingscrafts ... it's kind of hard to elieve that they still have listeners after that infamous episode where they went nuts and trashed all their fans for a half hour after getting negative feedback.

Trevor McFur said...

Oops, elieve=believe.

As curious as i am about what the Lost Community said, I no longer want to contribute to their download numbers. BTW - wonder where they got their BOOKCLUB idea from....hmmm.

PalmerEldritch said...

jordan, that's awesome. i'm quite jealous. but, even more so, i'm happy for you. but still jealous...

they were sold out wednesday. i'm trying again this saturday. did your PS3 come with an HDMI cable? they're like $90 at stores but only $5 from Monoprice.com

ghostie, so... did it get fixed or no?

Optimus Prime, we love your rants. i'm hoping for a good rant from you on the next TLI. i also like when you talk scifi and LOTR. a scifi/hobbit rant? ooh la la.

mb said...

You know - I should say, I apologize to TLI/Dharmalars listeners who also like them - I just think if you're going to put out a podcast, it's crap to be talking shit about other podcasters. Even if it doesn't seem like a big deal while you're talking into the mic w/your friends, you are actually talking to a lot of people, and your words can have a bigger effect than you realize.

that'd be cool. now, we're all going to be self-conscious.

i do that sometimes, i'll just read along, because i have nothing to say in the matter or it's something that i don't know anything about. so i just keep reading until eventually i'll find something to say or something. like through all that doctor who talk, i just read through, cause it's not something i watch, but it's still interesting to see everyone's opinions.

Heck, even I lurk here a bit. There's just a bunch of conversations I don't feel I would positivly contribute to, so I read and appreciate, and wait. But I do like me some boobies. Even if it's just typing the word.

mb said...

AAACK!! Damn - really belated 69 KABLAMMO! thanks trevor

Jordan said...

Steph, No I am not loaded. Much closer to the antithesis of loaded. I just felt like making an irrational purchase. I have a little bit of money in the bank and no girlfriend to waste it on, so I figured what the heck. Plus a friend of mine recently did the same and it gave me the excuse. That along with the recent slight price drop. I had wanted a PS3 for a long time and had been on the fence.

Palmer, No it doesn't come with a HDMI cable. But they aren't too expensive. You just have to go to a place that doesn't try to rip uninformed consumers off. It's ridiculous. Most places out there charge $75-$100 for a hdmi cable because it's "hi-def" and they know the average consumer thinks it's a big deal. The place I got mine at was like $12. And forget brands. A cable is a cable.

So far, so cool. I was like a little kid last night opening it up and trying to get it all working. I downloaded the most recent firmware update which adds dvd upscaling and wireless network ability for music and videos from your computer. I don't have a wireless network, so I don't know about that stuff quite yet. But the dvd upscaling is cool. It doesn't magically turn standard def dvd's into hd or anything, but it does improve them a good deal. With my old dvd player, I was constantly annoyed at how my dvds looked on my hi-def tv. Now that's not the case. Again, don't expect too much. But it is noticable. Haven't yet watched a blu-ray dvd yet. But I did go into my netflix account and switch it over to default to blu-ray when available. I am stoked!

I downloaded a bunch of video game demos from the playstation store. That's pretty cool. There's enough that you don't have to buy a game right away when you buy your system. There's more than enough to keep me entertained until Madden '08 comes out next month.

And I'm not positive if I read this right, but when Sony starts making the new 80 gb PS3's in a few months, it sounds like they are going to use the same whatever it is that the Euro PS3's have. The bit that keeps them from being 100% backward compatible with old PS & PS3 games. So if that means anything to you and you want to get one, I'd get one of the current ones out there.

PalmerEldritch said...

ok. you've convinced me. again. tomorrow is the day.

i have to wait until early next week for the HDMI cable though. had to order it off of Monoprice.com cuz no place local had one for under $25. with shipping, my cost was ten bucks. where the heck did you find it locally for $12? just more to be jealous of.

good to know about the demos. i'm looking forward to the John Woo game in early august. and madden. and marvel ultimate alliance. and spider-man 3. and conan. and force unleashed. oh boy... bye bye, money.

i hear you need Windows Media Player 11 for the DLNA stuff. i'll give that a test.

Palmer, I went to a computer store downtown that sells used parts. They have some new stuff there like cables and whatnot. When I asked for a HDMI cable the guy joked, "That'll be $100", laughing at how ridiculous it is how much most stores charge for a stupid cable.

Aimee. Madman's mind is in a state of limbo right now. His body is dead (again) but his mind is still working. In this state of limbo he is trying to wake up, but the problem is is that he mind is kind of malfunctioning. He keeps having visions of his Girlfriend , Joe and is agonizing over the fact that if he does not wake up from his dead slumber, that he will never see her again.

Ralph, To answer your Lost Community podcast question earlier. I do listen, to most of them because I send them emails and like to hear my name, but I don't remember any Dharmalar targeted rant. I seem to recall them saying something about how they don't have shirts like some people have shirts, but that's aimed at Jay and Jack too. I don't think they used names. I'll send you an email with a little more too. I wouldn't worry about it.

As for why that episode isn't available anymore, beats me. The host said he had taken down some old ones that had unlicensed music in them, but this one was just a few weeks ago.

THIS PICTURE------>

is one that i have been using for my other message boards that i visit as well as what i have on my IM. SO to answer the question that was never asked "Why is Madman Sad?" the answer to that is above.

As for why he is MAD. he is not upset like Mr. Furious, he is Mad as in demented. He actually isnt really demented. he was brought back to life after dying and almost touching hands with "The Infinate Being", so now that he is alive, he questions whether or not he actually exists, or if it is all in his head. so that is the best way to describe his MADness.

i am gonna go take some pills or something. yikes

Another thing Palmer. I'd hold off on buying a 2nd controller. I just read yesterday that Sony plans on releasing a rumble controller. Most people were annoyed that they got rid of that feature originally.

That's awesome Balph. See how many goofy pseudo celebs you can get sign it or take pics with it. Damn, I'm getting jealous of that book. Who would've known what it was in for when I first sent it off to Arkansas. And to think, I felt sorry for it at the time.

Ralph, I just bumped Crank on blu-ray up on my netflix queue yesterday. It's cool, netflix has an option to set your account up for either bluray or hddvd. And if you choose it, it gives you the option to convert all the movies in your queue to blu-ray format if it's available.

Palmer, where did you find the coupon for the dvds? I saw it somewhere before, but can't remember. All I remember is that I was having a tough time finding 5 movies I liked on that list. lol.

I was playing a bunch of demos last night that I downloaded, and one of them was some Def Jam game. It's a fighting game where the characters are rappers and you just brawl in the street. How funny is that? They need to make one where it's just annoying celebs. I would love to play that game with Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan. Even better, if I could be Christian Bale and Johnny Depp and beat the living shit out of Sean Penn and Russell Crowe.

Ben/Ralph-

I think I like the idea of celebrities taking pictures with the book, rather than sign it. Since we've had to read it to sign it, but if you can get signatures then that's cool, I guess. You should tell them the story of how the book is travelling across the country and soon it will become an international phenomenon. Then report back to us what reactions you got.

Trevor McFur said...

There's plenty of room on that inside cover. I hold out hope that Bruce will make a surprise appearance at Comic Con and that Ralph will get him to sign the book -- I mean, he's got a new series to promote, and that's his fan base. And I think he'd be cool with it.

That Granny Idiot made me laugh my ass off. Is it a set-up? Something about it looks a little bit off. Maybe it's just me.

I'm out of the running as I just wasted what extra cash I had laying around on my PS3. But if anybody has some moohlah buring a hole in your pocket, check out this ebay auction.

24 grand actually sees like a pretty fair starting bid. But what's with the 14.95 shipping costs? Sounds a little shady.

PalmerEldritch said...

that 14.95 shipping fee goes directly to Ultra Magnus who'll tow Bumblebee's ass to your door.

For some reason, I think the granny video is a fake.
No Transformers for me today. I had to settle for Apocalypto on pay-per-view. Wow. Mel Gibson is one sick and twisted s.o.b. I did pick up the first Harry Potter book. Yay. More money to J K Rowling.

Thanks for the explanation of Madman. He doesn't scare me as bad now.

Trevor McFur said...

I watched Apocalypto a week or wo ago. It's a very good movie, but you're right, Mel's more than just a little twisted. Beheadings, rape, torture, human sacrifie ... good times!

Stephanie said...

Yeah, Trev, it's brutal but stunning.

PalmerEldritch said...

the reason everyone think's the grandma video is fake is cuz her legs go horizontal at about 4 feet in the air. this is because A) it's fake or B) she can fly.

Brian Kincaid is the man.

There seems to be some sort of mistake, my Dharmalars T-shirt is missing the golden ticket :(

I hope someone from this blogspot gets it...since I didn't. Oh ya, on the bright side the shirt did arrive Friday when I got home from work. Holla!

Holy Sisko that was a sweet-ass DS9 clip Palmer. Enjoyed the hell out of that! I have forgotten how much I enjoyed many parts of that show. I think I have some more non-Lost viewing for the next couple of years now.

memphish said...

Boy, things have been exploding over here lately, but unfortunately about things I don't know about or don't want to think about (the f***ed up ratings system or boobie names or Bai Ling for example.)

If anyone wants to think about LOST, I've posted every day this week on my blog and I'll have a post tomorrow as well about favorite lines. Then I'm off to the beach for a week with no computer. Yes, my mother-in-law is cooler than me and has a laptop with wi-fi, but I don't. Nor do I have an iPhone like certain cool blondes I could name.

So keep it up blogspotters! I too hope a blogspotter will find the golden ticket. I'm out to run about 4, 8, 15, 16, or 23 errands. Fortunately, I don't have 42 to do.

Holli

P.S. David Beckham being No. 23 is starting to ruin the numbers for me.

spotted Antony Cooper in K-9 with Jim Belushi and a dog. Turner & Hooch was better.

-Holli, i enjoy your Lost questions. Perhaps you should have segments on The Lars & TLI to keep up the Lost-related quota.

-Finished Buffy The Vampire Slayer season 6 last night. Came upon the infamous "you taste like strawberries line" I'm not convinced the Lost dialogue was a reference, because the line in Buffy doesn't have much subtext.

[light Buffy spoilers]
a weirdo warlock sucks some energy from Willow and says "you taste like strawberries". She could literally taste like strawberries. It may just be a playful allusion to her hair color. It could be refering to her innocent nature (which she often tries to deny). The line is referenced again in a later episode when the warlock says something like 'you still taste like strawberries but now you have ripened.' It's just not a very important line of dialogue.
[/end light Buffy spoilers]

-Kim - Ben says the golden-rod ticket will probably be mailed seperately from the shirts, so everyone still has a chance. It's just like Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory when all of the tickets are spoken for and Charlie somehow gets a bonus ticket.
i am now really craving a chocolate bar.

memphish said...

Andrew -- thanks. The 'Lars and TLI are both welcome to use the questions at any point they should wish to discuss LOST, but the 'Lars of course, are non-LOST, so LOST talk would be rambling, right?

Elias - Hubby's High School friend and freshman year college roommate is in Turner & Hooch. He has 1 line (I think) at the very end of the movie. He's a blond cop.

6 errands down and only 1 to go, and oh yeah, packing. And yes I'm trying to think of another errand so it will be 8, not 7.

Awesome Palmer! You said you have a wireless network, right? Let me know how that goes. I'm thinking about setting one up. I'm already sick of having cables going across my living room and disconnecting my internet to hook up the PS3. Plus the possible networking with media on your computer seems pretty cool. I'm wondering if you'll be able to stream netflix instant view movies? They play through Windows Media Player, which is supposed to be compatible. That would be awesome!

oh. and i was at some sort of clothing store and found that they are indeed still selling button-fly jeans. i took a picture with my camera phone as proof but i'm too lazy to upload it right now.

Steph. Madman is actually not scary at all. He has the mind of child. He lead a bad life before he was resurected by the doctors. He is troubled by all the horrible things he had done in his past life and is trying to make up for his mistakes.

He fights crime using a Toy Disc Gun and a Yo-Yo.

He is probably the quirkiest, least scary comic characters. with the exception of Little Lulu

jordan, i just got a 30 day demo of a program for my mac that lets me access all my crap from the mac with the PS3. photos, music, and videos. watching the Cowbell Skit from SNL as i type. there's a way to do the same thing for free on a PC with Windows Media Player 11 (and only 11) but i haven't set it up yet.

it's definitely limited in what types of video it can play. only likes MPEG2 files so far so i'll need a way to convert them or trick the PS3. but music and photos works great. i'll let you know when i get the PC working as a content server.

sony friend thing sent. i've only got Spidey and Ultimate Alliance though. the SAS: bringing people together since... a couple years ago.

PalmerEldritch said...

ok, i'm watching the "triumph the insult comic dog christmas special" on my PS3 which means that i've gotten the ability to watch videos on my PC working. Windows XP.

i'm running Windows Media Player 11, so I opened that bastard up and checked out the settings. there's a tab for Library which i clicked on and selected Media Sharing. then i said that i wanted to share all my media out to anybody on my home network. i went ahead and went to the same tab (Library) and added all my content. voila!

here are instructions for vista (which are identical to the xp instructions) as written up by some rando online.

now i just have to find a way to convert video or make VLC convert the videos on the fly to a suitable file format. ok, found out how to make VLC convert a file. but can't play it til it's done converting the file. hmmm...

I'm a lurker!

I've been reading for a while, I dont comment because for a few reasons, but one is like I'm usually coming in late on conversations since I usually read the blogspot when i'm bored at work :) But you guys are very entertaining... I was wondering if I was doing something creepy by reading your posts and not contributing... I hope it not creepy tho! :)

I used to listen to the lost community... but i found them really annoying... They have these huge theories every week that are really involved and it seems to change and be proven wrong each week... I found that annoying for some reason, altho I usually like people's theories on lost. Also, the one guys laugh I found annoying, but it also reminded me of my fav news anchor (anderson cooper), so I guess not that annoying! :) I also just started to listen to the generally speaking lost podcast, which I kinda find annoying at times, but I think I'll still gave them a chance for a while. :)

Anyway, thanks for the entertainment! I'll try to contribute more to the blogspot.

Ok, so I don't have a wireless network set up. What's the easiest way to do this? I just have a normal cable modem currently. Are there wireless routers out there that I could use with my current set up without having to reconfig my computer itself to being wireless? I'm totally clueless about this stuff, so any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Jordan said...

And Palmer, You are streaming this stuff, correct? Or are you copying it to the hard drive?

Anonymous said...

Hey Jump - GSPN.VD is known to cause rectal bleeding.

anyway, welcome to the blogspot!

PalmerEldritch said...

most of the time, you can just get a router (wireless, wired, or both) and hook up multiple computers through that to the cable modem. i'd suggest putting a password on your wireless to keep random weirdos off of your network. especially if you live in an apartment. don't want random people looking at all your stuff.

the PS3 can detect the shared media and then you can choose what to listen to or view. it accesses the data on the network and plays it from there. it doesn't copy over the data.

man, that HDMI cable can NOT come soon enough. really looking forward to watching our first Blu-Ray from Netflix. unfortunately, the girlfriend has the Netflix account so its some girlie movie. the next one after that is Casino Royale though.

welcome aboard, jump. enjoy the blogspotification!

PalmerEldritch said...

oh. as for wireless routers with ethernet ports in the back, i'm pretty sure that they do. just check the packaging when you get one.

my Linksys WRT54G has five ethernet ports in the back. the one by itself is where the cord from the cable modem plugs in. the other four, grouped together, are the "out" ports. my internet phone plugs into that and so would any computers if they were in that room.

jump - welcome to the posting end of the SaSpot.
listen to what you like. i really liked Generally Speaking when they first started.

-finished Buffy. I'm glad i watched it, and also glad that i waited until i could watch the whole show on DVD instead of episode to episode.
For a Lost link: Nathan Fillion, AKA this generation's Bruce Campbell, showed up at the end of the last season. I couldn't stop seeing him as Captain Malcolm Reynolds though.

-After watching 2 discs of Angel, i'm not sure i want to soldier through 5 seasons worth. I think i might give The Adventures of Brisco County Jr. a spin next.

Andrew, the 3rd season of Angel is pretty good, I think. The 4th is definitely the worst, at least imo. The 5th is the best, but is it worth sitting through 3 & 4 to get to 5 if you're just a casual fan? Meh.

Finally went out this weekend and picked up this Guitar Hero all the kids are talking about. My god, this is a hard game. And I think that I now have carpal tunnel syndrome.

Welcome jump! Enjoy!
