I may have asked this question before. But what's the advantage to button fly jeans? I made the mistake of wearing a pair to a local watering hole the other night and after a couple rounds found them ridiculously annoying.

Ralph- said...

the advantage is that you can piss your pants easier when you dont have to deal with the way too covenient zipper.

Jordan said...

Ooh! I just saw that I got an email the other day saying that the shirts were mailed off! Woo hoo!

If I find the golden ticket, I'm going to find a homeless person and have them call in pretending to be me. Ralph, Ben, and a hobo. That would be entertaining.

Stephanie said...

Button-fly jeans? Where do you shop, Jordan? 1992? I'm just kidding. For all I know button-fly are in again.

PalmerEldritch said...

button-fly jeans still exist? i had assumed that they had all been destroyed after the last episode of Full House aired. who knew?

i guess the advantage is that you can't accidentally catch anything important in the zipper.

Trevor McFur said...

Good line, Steph. I was thinking the same exact thing as I was catching up on the postings.

PalmerEldritch said...

by the way, Button-Fly Genes would be a good name for a high school band. or a Sci Fi Original Movie.

Trevor McFur said...

I think that the real question is, is Jordan still wearing the same pair of buttonflies from 15 years ago, or is this a new pair of jeans, freshly purchased from the Wayback Store?

PalmerEldritch said...

maybe we should stop making fun of button fly jeans lest jordan punch us in the face. :)

hey, my buddy has an iPhone. i got to play around with it a bit today. it's prolly about $300 worth of "gee whiz." it's a really slick looking ipod. it's a lot slimmer than i had imagined. the screen's great and the re-sizing done in the web browser was pretty cool. the maps were very cool as well. he didn't think he could zoom in with the camera but that may be more of a limitation of my friend than of the iphone. the actual phone part was shitty. everyone who talked to him on it complained of an echo. this may be an issue with AT&T sucking though. he said he got zero reception at work. he works in the state capital so i would've thought that cell coverage would be pretty good. the keyboard works pretty well but the YouTube part of the iPhone kept on replacing my searches for "iPhone Conan" with "iPhone Cohan" or some such rubbish. annoying to say the least. i know what i'm trying to search for, jackhole.

all in all, it was pretty cool to play around with but, so far, didn't leave me itching to pull the trigger and pay 600 bucks for it.

i'll try to remember more details if you have any questions.

anyone pick up an iPhone?

Ralph- said...

stevi, jeff and I were discussing the iPhone yesterday and we decided that we would rather pick up a PS3 (mostly for the blu ray) than pay $600 for an iPhone. I want a BluRay player so bad now.

nnnnnnnnnnnnn.............i want it soo bad.

Hello lovely blogspotters,
do you ever have days (or just a couple of hours) that make you think how much easier life would be if you had telekinetic powers (physically move shit with your mind)? I have and I think these are the top 5 things I would enjoy the most and would be most useful.

5. My house would be CLEAN...ALL THE TIME.

4. Locking my keys in the car would be a thing of the past.

3. The dog gets let out at 6am without me lifting a finger.

2. did I mention the house would ALWAYS be clean?

1. Assuming my enemies don't know...oh god, the possibilities...

You'd think I was watching an episode of Heroes or something, but no, just staring at the sty that is my living room and dreaming (b/c I'm too f-ing lazy to get up - lol.

What would YOU do with the power?

Milton Bradley, i would love to have the power to Speak One Sentence a Day that everyone in the world would hear in their mind.

mb said...

wow - just when I thought the MB names had exhausted - nice one

I would like that power as well, and I think the first sentence would be

"Talk to you tomorrow"

A friend of mine just recently purchased an iPhone. She's way too excited about the damn thing.

And as for the jeans. I bought them just a couple years ago. They were cheap and they made my butt look cute. At least that's what my at the time girfriend told me. lol.

Stephanie said...

I'm hearing a lot of buzz about Cloverfield. (Wonder where the name comes from. Somebody's street name?) It's amazing how excited people get these days when JJ Abrams' name is mentioned. The TV Guide podcast was surprised the movie was filmed in NYC and they didn't know anything about it. Also, they're kinda afraid to get too excited about it if the film is to be released in January. They say that's not a good sign. And that it's directed by Matt Reeves who's never directed anything other than pilots and Felicity.

PalmerEldritch said...

ralph, good call on the PS3. actually, rumor is that there could be a price cut before Comic-Con. of course, this would be about the ninety billionth rumor about a PS3 price cut. but the rumored $100 price cut, assuming it comes to fruition, would probably be enough to push me over the edge into the PS3 camp. especially since i can rent Blu-Ray movies from NetFlix. :)

anyone know when the hell Home is coming out for the PS3?

PalmerEldritch said...

ok, i'm off to (finally) transform and roll out with Optimus this afternoon.

in the meantime, if anyone has a PS3, firmware update 1.80, and a knowledge of how to use the new DLNA features to access video content on a Windows machine, let me know which flavors of Windows can share out to DLNA clients? just Vista and Media Center?

/huge nerd

Jordan said...

Palmer, I'm right with you on the PS3. A $100 price cut would probably have me at the store that day to get one.

Ralph- said...

I am off to go see "Evening", by the way does anyone know how to navigate the telemetry of ion particles in order to get to the horseshoe nebula?

what?

Is there anyone from the blogspot going to head out to comic con this year? i know that i am gonna see Palmer out there. If you are send me an email and i will give you my number so we can hang out!!

PalmerEldritch said...

thanks for the hidden link, ralph. listening now.

memphish said...

I'm completely jealous of anyone getting to go to Comic Con. I lived in San Diego for 7 years, and miss it, especially while enduring stretches of 95 degree days with downpours every afternoon. Be sure and eat a fish taco for me. Or if you prefer Shrimp Burritos, road trip to Finz at UTC.

Ralph- said...

holli. i cant eat seafood. but i will take any other suggestions. i am always up for something new!!!

Boy I wish I could go Ralph - I think it would be a lot of fun. I can't wait to hear the report.

Ralph and other Comic Con-ners, It's been almost 10 years since we moved, so a lot has changed, andover a year since we visited, but if you want a fun place to hang out over in Coronado, try McP's. Pub grub and good beer, plus other beverages plus music and a nice patio. And you might see a real life Navy Seal.

I think i'd enjoy cruising around Comic Con, meeting fellow lost nerds and seeing how much swag i could score. i looked at the map though and while San Diego isn't as far from San Francisco as it is from Pittsburgh, i don't think i have enough hitchhiking points to make it.

Somebunny get me Thor's autograph.

-Ben - are you still watching John From Cincinnati? I still can't decide if it's amazing or terrible but i've been looking forward to it week to week.

Jordan said...

Andrew, what are you still doing watching John from Cincicrappy?

andrew. said...

i don't know Jordan. i just can't look away

Stephanie said...

Jordan, did you snag that image off the internet or have you personally visited your city's Kwik-E-Mart? You know you live in a cool place when you have one nearby.
I am so jealous of anyone going to ComicCon, amazingly because before a year and a half ago I'd never even heard of such a thing. Ben, I know that sentence can not be grammatically correct.

Jordan said...

So I went to the local 7-11 that was turned into a Kwiki Mart. It was surreal. Check out the pics.

Yeah Steph, I went there the other day. It's just down the street from my work. It was like Disneyland in there with all the people.

"Fat guy in Lost T-shirt" is my favourite

mb said...

That's too funny Jordan, and to find a lost t-shirt-wearin' guy as well - excellent.
I had heard they were doing this, but ironically I haven't seen any 7-11 turned Kwik-E-Marts here in Portland (Matt Groening's hometown!). There's GOT to be one - now I'm on a mission (in my SPARE time - lol)

Trevor McFur said...

Jordan, were they selling Buzz Cola & other Springfield snack foods?

PalmerEldritch said...

jordan! PS3 Price Drop according to CNN. w00t!

and, everyone, thanks for recommending Arrested Development. good stuff.

"And if you survive, please come again."

We haven't broke the blogspot yet.

I've been rewatching season two of Lost to see if after seeing three, two was any clearer. And it is. The reason Inman and Razinsky were in the Swan for so long is because after the purge there was no one to relieve them. Right?
I can't believe how slow and boring Man of Science, Man of Faith was. Nothing happened during the entire episode. And then for the next two episodes we had to watch Locke, Jack, and Kate go down into the hatch over and over. Two didn't get good until Michael Emerson came on. It makes me wonder why Lost has such a hard time starting off their seasons. I'm sure you all will agree, season three started out sucking as well. I have complete faith that 4 will be different. My fingers are crossed.

memphish said...

Steph, I'm hoping as well that with only 16 episodes per season and 48 total that we won't see the sort of tap dancing with the director in the background giving the stretch it out signal that have started off Seasons 2 & especially Season 3.

So far in my rewatching of Season 1 it's been episodes that would not have been in my favorites list that have been the ones that have most re-piqued my interest because they still have remaining mysteries to be resolved.

People who don't think LOST gives you answers need to rewatch the series. We've actually learned a lot about these people and a few things about this place. In fact it feels like we've learned all there is to know about the people which is part of the challenge now. If you hear a giant groan sometime this summer or fall, it will probably be caused by the announcement that Jack gets the first episode of Season 4. I hope Season 4 is the Season of the Island.

Has anyone stuck this in their queue?

PalmerEldritch said...

you two are doing LOST extra credit over the summer? nice! let us know what kind of cool stuff you discover.

steph, i'm having the boringest day ever at work and am seriously considering firing up some Arrested Development even though i'm in a semi-public area.

Holli, I saw that at my local Blockbuster. I hear Josh plays a small part in the movie but they changed the box because of the success of Lost.

PalmerEldritch said...

thanks, steph. i remember watching that reporter on youtube. funny stuff.

Trevor McFur said...

Is that Rock/Paper/Scissors article real? You have to be kidding me. OK, so when does Thumb Wrestling get it's turn on the big stage?

PalmerEldritch said...

i saw the Rock/Scissors/Paper Tournament on ESPN of ESPN2 in previous years. no, i didn't watch the whole thing.

Trevor McFur said...

Well, if Paper Football ever goes big-time, then I'll finally get my chance at fame and fortune.

PalmerEldritch said...

when you win, do the super bowl shuffle!

Stephanie said...

Palmer, as of right now Morgan and I are drying our tears. We just watched Doomsday. Now we have to see the new companion to get us out of our funk. I guess nothing will get done in the house today.

andrew. said...

finished season 5 of Buffy. only 2 to go. if you need a good cry, watch the episode "The Body". Jesus Christ that was rough.

PalmerEldritch said...

steph, looks like you are due for the Christmas Special that was on last Friday. and then season 3. w00t!!!

Jordan said...

To answer your question Trevor:
Mmmmmmm...marketing

Jordan said...

Oh and yeah, the RPS (Rock Paper Scissors) championships are real. I saw it on ESPN the other day. Hilarious. They have fans cheering and announcers analyzing statistical trends and everything.

Jordan said...

I am sitting here seriously considering going and purchasing a PS3. I don't know why $100 is making that much of a difference. lol.

Ralph- said...

i will bet you anything that one day, Paper Football will show up on national television.

Trevor McFur said...

If they sold Duff beer, I might have to drive to the closest Kwik-E-Mart to buy a case.

Andrew, you're burning through those Buffys. Wait until you get to season 6 ... that's when the show gets really dark.

For those who might be interested...

PalmerEldritch said...

jordan!

you can get five (crappy) blu-ray movies with the purchase of a blu-ray player (like the PS3) via a "rebate."

not too many of the movies look good though. and Circuit City claims that they'll give you a free wireless controller but i can't tell if that's the one in the package or a seperate controller.

Stephanie said...

Wow! You mean they can still use the word Christmas in the UK?

elias said...

Saw "Guide to... Saints" last night and it was a great coming of age film. I'm not usually into this genre apart from Stand By Me but it hit all the right notes and had that elegiac tone and a good flashback structure.

The performances were excellent, especially the kids, Chazz P, and all the small part players like Rosario Dawson. I'm a big fan of Robert Downey Jr (3 classic performances in Chaplin, Natural Born Killers and Kiss Kiss Bang Bang), but he didn't have much of a role here and he didn't impress. I'd never heard of Shia LaBeouf before this and he gave a top performance - really natural and subtle.

Cheers for the recommendation Steph, I could well do with another.

Ralph- said...

FULL COMIC CON SCHEDULE IS UP!
HERE

No word on LOST actors

Stephanie said...

Hmm. Elias, I'll be thinking on it. The only thing that bothered me about Guide... is Robert Downey Jr and Eric Roberts are too old for their parts. I predict Shia Labeouf will win an Oscar one day especially since he's Spielberg's boy.

Stephanie said...

Elias, is that your cousin in Greece?

elias said...

that's my chubby cousin Alexander but I don't have a clue who's holding him - just some Greek random who goes around holding kids at christenings :)

Now that you mention it Downey is too old for that role but I just had a problem with his acting - it didn't ruin the film because he's not in it that much, but I didn't believe in the character which Shia portrayed so convincingly.

Eric Roberts was convincing as a weathered Antonio but he wasn't in it enough.

I picked up an old film, "What's Up Doc?" (1972), which was a delightful screwball comedy and holds the distinction of being the only Barbra Streisand film I've ever enjoyed.

Ralph- said...

the 269th post is about Greece and you didnt say Kablamo?

mb said...

wow - that "Mi Amigo" movie case is hilarious. I wonder how small Josh's part really is? (TWSS)

Holli and Steph - most impressed by the Lost extra credit. I think you may be what is keeping Lost on this blog over the summer.

Steph - w00t! nice av! and wow, you made it through season 2 already! Were you ever able to watch Season 1?
Palmer's right, the Runaway Bride (Christmas episode) + the first episode with Martha Jones just aired on SciFi on Friday. If you didn't record them, I can send you a DVD of them. Let me know.

RE: Sports-that-do-not-need-to-be-on-the
