I dunno about Harry Potter - never seen, never read but I saw 300 today and it was good.

Happy reading!

On my way home from work on Friday night (7pm), there were people lined up at our local "Chapters", partying until midnight. Kids were dressed up, it was cute. Strange, but cute. At least kids are reading, that's all I can say!!!

Start the clock. >:(

Um...so, who here as seen "Legends of the Fall"? I hear it's great. A real guys-guy movie... J 206, have you seen it?

:P

~Kim in TORONTO!

memphish said...

Legends of the Fall has a very cute Brad Pitt -- do you really need to know much more Kim? Are you trying to find a "date" movie? I get Legends mixed up with A River Runs Through It. I don't really remember what happens in it.

Oh, -- and I'm back and have many, many of your posts to read and I don't know shit about Harry Potter. I've never read a page and never seen a movie.

Was the beach nice, Holli?
I get those two mixed up too. I think he had the same hair. In Interview with a Vampire also.
I'm a third of the way through the first book. Slow reader.

memphish said...

The beach was very nice. And there was a woman at our condos who looked like Danielle -- not Mira Furlan the actress, but Danielle - the been in the sun too long, stringy haired, batshit crazy French chick. If I'd only had an iPhone (insert heavy sigh).

Mike - very glad the last book is turning out to be excellent, but I must disagree with you re: movie #5. Especially for an HP movie, they did a nice job with the pacing and storytelling (keep in mind I still have not read book #5 so I am unaware of all the shit they left out).

But 'sucked balls'? I don't agree. At the very least it was a helluva lot better than #1,2 or 4 in IMO, kind of tied w/#3 for me.

PalmerEldritch said...

holli, just be glad that the lady at the condo didnt look like Mira Furlan's biggest role on US tv.

dont worry. she grew some hair before she hooked up with Tron.

if anyone wants to see a great film this week apart from The Simpsons, i highly reccomend Sunshine. A awesome film that is visually amazing to look at.

Holli, I must admit I've seen Legends of the Fall. I was just rubbing a but of salt into "someone's" new wound.

I finished the book last night, of course the best book of them all

memphish said...

I get it now Kim and J206. Much like someone's very small avatar earlier, it didn't initially register with me that a new, non-Simpson's avi. had hit the blogspot. I think this is where I say "Go Jays!" right?

Holli

P.S. For more batshit crazy Danielle stuff check out the stuff she was raving about in Solitary. I still can't decide if that woman knows what she's talking about or is talking out of her rear. And another question from Solitary, why does Sayid tell Danielle that Nadia is dead?

Stephanie said...

I'm still on the fence about Sunshine. I guess I need to go watch the trailer. Saving mankind seems to be a theme I'm big on but what I'm not big on is the threat of running out of oxygen. I would like to see Johnny Storm do something different.

aimee is lost said...

WOW! My brain hurts from my reading bender this weekend. I finished it Sunday in the early afternoon. I would've been done earlier, but I did pass out from exhaustion sometime on Saturday and lost like, 4 hours there.

I'm so sad it's over!! Hurry up and finish so we can talk about it!

PalmerEldritch said...

aimee, feel free to discuss it with me anytime. i'll have no idea what you're talking about but i'll nod politely and say things like "good point, good point."

Sunshine does look pretty cool. I'm not sure how one goes about re-igniting the sun (unless you're hal jordan) but i can try to shut my brain off for that part.

We've discussed the possibility and necessity to change the forum here from blogspot style to message board, so I'm in the middle of creating one right now.

We can add it to the blogspot, myspace pages, & the dharmalars site, so you can access it from anywhere.

I literally just created it, so the individual boards haven't been made yet; there's just a general board right now until we can decide what categories we want to make.

If you want to get a jump start and create your login/profile for the board, here it is:

The New Scott & Steve Message Board!

International-J said...

Aimee I'd love to discuss with you the book. I finished it, and there are many things to talk about.

PalmerEldritch said...

and... waiting for an activation code over at the SAS Board...

and... still waiting...

aimee is lost said...

Interesting feature that administrators have: ability to change anyone's profile.

Oh boy, I'm going to be sooo tempted to mess with people.

{insert evil laugh here}

memphish said...

Mine came through fine Palmer, but here's the thing about message boards -- how do I know where to find people? Here? Message Board?

Holli

aimee is lost said...

I don't really know yet, Holli. I'm waiting to discuss this with Ralph/Ben/Craig, etc and see how we want this to be organized. Feel free to speak up if you have an opinion!

Stephanie said...

What conflicting emotions I have right now. Is this the death of the blogspot? But then again, I have been looking for a forum to join where I can get all my latest Lost news, spoilers and such.

Jordan said...

Message boards give me cramps.

PalmerEldritch said...

any BBS needs a "blogspotesque" spaghetti conversation thread where we can keep up this kind of stuff. cuz these conversations are fantastigreat.

[ally] said...

I have created my account for the message boards. Now I have to come up with something interesting to say...

jayhawk said...

Wow, so much happened here over the weekend.
For anyone who cares:
- loved The Critic
- count me in the "I know nothing about Harry Potter" camp
- the Jays/Mariners bets make me smile (thanks kim & jordan)
- GO ROYALS!

PalmerEldritch said...

yeah, the BBS is boring and lonely. post, ally!

I know there is a big divide regarding message board vs. blogspot.

Personally, I like the homey feel of the blogspot, and in general I don't like it when things change. I also have a sentimental attachment to the blogspot.

However, with the amount of activity we've had, it's been difficult to "catch up" when you miss even a day at the blogspot, and sometimes a few hours. If we started migrating to the message board, we would be able to see the conversations in a more organized manner, and post in the threads that are discussing what we're interested in.

You may have a long run on a blogspot thread that's regarding something you don't care for, and vice versa, but unless you sit there and scroll through every single comment, you wouldn't know. With the message board, you can see the thread that says "Harry Potter", or "Toronto vs. Seattle", etc. and not miss out on any conversation.

memphish said...

Since I wasn't speed reading Harry Potter, I speed read 5 blogspot threads and now must say:

I love both The Critic and Dr. Katz. I cannot get the Simpsonize Me website to work at all, so you are stuck with my old avatar, but I feel left out.

The latest 'Lars helped me get through my Com-suck-tastic morning. Yes, they still haven't fixed my cable. And that's all I have to say about that.

As for the Simpsons, I started watching them on Tracey Ullman and haven't watched them in years, but I'd kind of like to see the movie. Kiddo has one more week of day camp coming up, so hopefully I can catch a matinee.

Brian Kincaid, if that's really you posting, call the 'Lars. I did enjoy the Kim calls. And finally Aimee looks great in her 'Lars shirt. Any word on the Golden Ticket?

Okay, I've got the basic boards set up now. I have a shitload of work to do today, so I'd better get going on it.

Speaking of the word shit, I disabled all of the restricted words at the message boards. It's totally explicit city over there now.

memphish said...

Exalted Jordan Kablamo for his last statement.

Yes, no to karma. J&J's boards are a childish mess thanks to that crap. And I'd also vote for no post counts. It just gives people something to act all high and mighty about and lord over other lesser posters.

mb said...

Well my account is set up at the BBS. Being the indecisive person I am, I for one, will be posting on and reading both.

Thanks Aimee for your work in setting it up! A new day dawns.

Jordan said...

And it wouldn't even let me do that! Apparently you can use spaces or underscores in your user name.

aimee is lost said...

I think I might mess with Jordan's profile first. He's bitching way too much. I think maybe I'll change his display name to "Jordan the Bitch".

Muuuahahahaha

Jordan said...

mb said...

lmao Jordan. I know you're probably genuinely pissed off, but your rants are hilarious :)

Trevor McFur said...

Uh oh, looks like the smiting system is in place at the NEW SaS...

[ally] said...

ok how funny is it that we have this big message board and were only posting under one post. isn't that what we do here?

Trevor McFur said...

Good point Ally. There needs to be a thread called 'Blogspot' where we can just keep on going like before.

Jordan said...

Mb, I'm not really that upset. I'm just having a bit of fun really. My inner Andy Rooney needs to be let out of it's cage every now and then. But it's all good. Although I will admit I'm not a huge fan of ditching the blogspot. Maybe we can keep both?

memphish said...

Right now we are duplicating, so more scrolling and more refreshing. We need to decide how we want to do this thing. Daily threads there plus topical ones and essential abandonment of the blogspot like the Dharmalars blogspot?

Another proposal would be to keep rambling over here and announce more pointed threads that exist over there such as "Discuss HP with Aimee" and "Watch Kim and Jordan Go Back and Forth on Baseball." I don't want to miss too much though b/c y'all have turned me on to TV shows, etc. that I wouldn't know about otherwise.

Holli

Jordan said...

You wanna know something that actually really does piss me off? The freaking mini mart directly across the street from my work that won't take credit or debit cards for purchases under $5. Now I know why they do that, because they are charged a per transaction fee by the credit card processing company. But still. So now when I don't have cash, which is always, I have to go walk about 2 blocks to the closest 7-11 as they are big enough to not worry about that stuff. This is so annoying as I can see the other place from my office. And even better when it's raining and I have to walk 2 blocks in the rain for a freaking bag of chips and a bottled water!

See, most of my posts on this blogspot are pure off the wall, have nothing to do with anything quips. I worry that this aspect of our community will die with a purely business message board. Again, maybe we can keep both? ;)

Jordan said...

And by keeping both I mean what Holli said about here being for nonsense and the boards for serious topical discourse. Just throwing out a thought.

Stephanie said...

Jordan, why are you bitching about a female president? Haven't you learned anything?

elias said...

I like a picture with each new thread but BBS is inevitable.

Still haven't seen Transformers but I saw a clone called Transmorphers - later imdb-ed it and found the director in the forums defending his reputation :)

Jordan said...

Steph, I don't mind a female president on 24. I was just posting the link as I found it interesting. My, "What the hell is going on?!" was meant in a sarcastic manner. Sorry. ;)

aimee is lost said...

The blogspot will not be going anywhere, even I end up being the only person here, talking to myself.

Jordan said...

Cool.

aimee is lost said...

Ralph made a good point in his email to me (and by the way, he's working on a board system, so the one we've been playing with today, we can call a beta version):

[but i need to a place that the other 15,000 listeners of the dharmalars can discuss the show without feeling that they are not part of some "exclusive club". The blog is very tight knit, and i need to make the dharmalars comunity more accessable to every listener.]

Ralph- said...

is the confirmation email for the forum automatic? how long does it usually take to get it?

elias said...

Ralph - it was instant to my bulk folder.

Stephanie said...

I see ralph-'s point.

[ally] said...

yeah it did the same thing on mine, i was thinking it was taking forever and i found it in the bulk mail.

Ralph- said...

i checked my bulk. did not see it. but i will check again. i get a lot of bulk

memphish said...

I see Ralph's point too, but I'm not sure that a BBS solves it. I've had a login at Jay and Jack's forum for a long time, but I hardly ever post there b/c I don't feel like I'm in that "exclusive club," and I don't know how to make fancy banners and avatars and shit like that that begin to overwhelm most message boards I've been around.

PalmerEldritch said...

thank goodness. it's already hard to keep up with the BBS. too many threads. i feel like i'll miss out on some good conversation.

mb said...

Jordan,
I agree - not good to keep your inner Andy Rooney caged up - he is a creature that needs to roam. I know if I leave mine in the cage too long, he just takes a huge dump on the carpet of my soul when he does get out. Nasty.

To all the Brits - all of you OK? I'm reading about all the flooding.

Ralph- said...

ijust to clarify 3 things. I HEART the blogspot! I Like the Scott and Steve Forum! I NEED a dharmalars Forum.

i will post here until the day i die. The scott and steve forum will make it easier to do category specific conversations with the blogspotters, plus i wont feel bad not being a part of Dr. Who, Heroes or BSG talk. and if folk wanna talk Film Music, i wont feel like i am getting in the way of other conversations.

The dharmalars forum will have Dharmalars Specific Categories: Lost, Dharmalars Episodes, The Lost Score, The Lars, Queue Discussion, Movies, Television, Music, You All Everybody (general Discussion) and so on.

The dharmalars really needs a forum to talk to a wider audience. sending folks to a forum not called Dharmalars can get confusing to casual listeners. I need more feedback on episodes, so that we can make them better.

I will keep you posted, but for now, i will see you guys here and on the scott and steve forum.

Thanks Aimee!!!

Scott and Steve said...

PalmerEldritch said...

this bbs will take some getting used to. hope it doesn't tear this community apart at the seams!

Trevor McFur said...

I'm confus-ed. Is the Dharmalars forum going to be a part of S&S: The Forum? Or, is there gonna be a separate Dharmalars forum and a separate S&S forum?

Ralph- said...

Dharmalars.Net is getting a forum.

memphish said...

So I guess here's the question for the Dharmalars and their forum -- should us blogspotters lay low and give other people a chance before chiming in and potentially dominating? This is a mostly tongue in cheek question.

I agree Ralph that you need a Dharmalar named site for talk. I look forward to getting more user names and log-ins. Again tongue in cheek.

Holli

PalmerEldritch said...

yeah, more places to check stretches us thin like butter over too much bread. i fear we'll lose touch with one another and not be able to keep up with all of these places.

PalmerEldritch said...

maybe we should quit our jobs so we have more time for all these BBSes?

Ralph- said...

no. you all should be there too. the site is for anyone who has something to say. I want people like Dre, Brian Kincaid and all the other dharmalars staples to be present.

i love all you guys and i would want you all to be there so that everyone is comfortable with showing up. you are all very kind and it would make it a very comfortable place.

andrew. said...

i took a little test-drive on the new forum. it's pretty nice, but i feel obligated to read and post in every thread.
the only other messageboard i spend any time on is a Pittsburgh-centric board focused on the various DIY scenes. I like the format for that one because it's just one big category with threads, so you don't have to go to the Sports Talk wing to talk about the Steelers, there's just a thread about the Steelers right under a thread about where to eat cheap indian food. does that make sense?
So it's a lot like the current blogspot but instead of a long list of posts, theres a long list of threads, some with 300+ posts in them. It keeps the sense of community & shared frame of reference, but you don't have to roll your eyes at 120 individual Dr. Who posts (j/k)

i'm happy with the new board. i especially like that we can post pictures now, but i thought i'd mention that as a possibility.

Mike Campbell said...

I finally finished it. It was so amazingtastic. Reading the board now and checking out the message board!
