Larstastic!

Larst? I hope that doesn't imply that this is going to be the last Lars ep. Crap. Now I gotta listen asap to find out. Excited regardless!

w00t! cannot wait to listen - i f-ing have to drive a half hour to go drop a tape off at 1am and this is going to keep me awake. Thank you Ralph!

and going back to the last thread and Paul Potts - I, um...(stuttering thoughts)....HOLY SHITTTTT!!! Wow! that's pretty damn incredible - especially considering I am NOT an American Idol fan. (or maybe I'm just a sap).

Johnny Ghostwatch said...

Gah - just done a big post about British teeth on the last thread where nobody will see it. Right - C&P time...

TEETH: As far as I can say it is just a difference in priorities. We just give less of a toss about aesthetic dentistry. We hear lots about US teens who "had" to have braces to fix their teeth but here it's generally not done unless there's a real problem.

Also most people in this country use the National Health Service (which we pay for out of our taxes) which is a double edged sword - it's not as all encompassing as US health plans and dental plans but it does mean absolutely everyone can get emergency treatment even if they don't have a penny to their name. Generally we think this is more important.

Obviously people can and do choose to go private and have corrective orthodontic work done but they have to pay for it separately (ie not covered in a company plan as I believe is quite common in the US).

So, in short - guaranteed treatment of the poor and vulnerable equals wonky teeth.

I have very British teeth - too far spaced out on the top row, all crammed together on the bottom and it used to bother me, but frankly it's one of the things that make me look like me so I've kind of got used to it.

Also, we are somewhat exaggerated by the press and in jokes (that's fine: that's what jokes are for) - while we're doing sweeping cultural stereotypes, generally the Japanese appear to have the teeth that you guys think the Brits have.

Ben "calls in sick?" This is not going to help his diva reputation. :)

I for one believe him though. And I don't think he's a diva. Ben's at least my second favorite host of the 'Lars.

Get better, Ben. Ralph, stay not sick.

And is there a shitting in a cup update in this podcast?!

The Chin has a new series starting June 28th.

P.S. Get Well Ben!

Ralph- said...

HA HAAA!!!!!

Hey guys, does your podcast make it sound like Jack broke the podcast?

Well, it's not supposed to be like that. I will re post the episode right now.

This is not the Sopranos.

PalmerEldritch said...

holli, that's freakin' cool.

and thanks for an update on The Chin. i have a feeling i won't like that show, but i'll give it a try.

PalmerEldritch said...

ralph, i hadn't gotten to that part. hehehheheeh. looking forward to a jack induced screeching halt.

and then re-downloading the podcast tonight.

memphish said...

The Comic News Insider guys interviewed Michael Emerson again. It's Episode 93 and you can find it on iTunes or at their website.

Ralph- said...

poop. apparently it only happened last night. cause this morning when stevi downloaded it, it worked fine.

Oh well, you cant lose them all.

memphish said...

Listening to the 'Lars which is helping my day. It's been one of those and it's been one of those since about 8:30 this morning. But things are looking up with some Lars plus Jay and Jack.

Here's my LOST question of the day: Why did Smokey kill the pilot right away when he's let Jack, Kate, Charlie, Juliet, and Locke live and he let Eko live until AAA wanted off the show?

Holli

Trevor McFur said...

Maybe the pilot wasn't such a nice person? I think that the key to Smokey lies in why he let Eko go the first time and killed him the second time. It looked like he was gonna kill Locke at the end of Season 1, too, but Jack saved him with the dynamite. So it's more than just who they are; it seems to have something to do with, either faith in he island, or attitude at the time, or something like that...

Jordan said...

Hey Ralph, how come it sounds like you are on a skype line as well? Great show still.

Stephanie said...

Dang it. I'm going to make it a habit to check iTunes before I leave for work each morning. Having to wait 12 hours while everyone else is enjoying the Lars is excruciating.
Why is this the first we're hearing of Burn Notice? Glad to see it on a network that gives it's shows a chance instead of freakin Fox.
I have to clear up a myth. The Hill-Burton Act was set up by Congress to render healthcare for indegent patients.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hill-Burton_Act
Millions of tax dollars are given annually to hospitals to offset the cost of caring for patients who can't pay for healthcare. But the problem now is people think healthcare should be free. It's like everything else, somebody has to pay.
As far as the braces issue goes, parents are led to feel guilty by society for not giving their children more than they were given themselves. I had braces as a teen and fully expect to be pushed into sending my precious to the orthodontist any time now. This is just my opinion.

Stephanie said...

Smokie killed Greg Grunberg right off the bat to show us this island is a scary and dangerous place.

Trevor McFur said...

Maybe Smokey just didn't take too kindly to having his mind read.

Cool map, J. Hopefully I'll finish the book soon and I can pass it on, so you can add another pin to the map.

andrew. said...

-Awesome, didn't think we were going to get a new Lars this week.

- Ben's off the hook for being "sick" but if he ever skips for "exhaustion" and then checks into a rehab clinic, his status as Diva will be forever cemented.

-iPod update. it was my USB cable. i got a new one at Staples this morning. i had to buy an iPod AC adapter to get the USB cable, but i'll probably use that. It's a brand new store so i got a crazy discount too. yay.

- re: Smokey. i agree with Stephanie. Smokey just wanted to make a grand entrance to the show and let the losties know that it's out there and it's not shy about ragdolling a few pilots.
Do you really think it was going to kill Locke when he it was dragging him into the hole. i always picture a little table with a toy tea set and a seat reserved for John.

-CNN is full of fluff stories this morning. You can always tell because most of the headlines are video pieces. They've got a story suggesting that there was a definite ending in mind for the Sopranos. Story Clickie

Average White Band - good call.

I'll sneak this in before dinner tonight ;)

Ralph- said...

Jordan, I had to use the Condenser Mic in order to do the show. i think there is a way i can use my normal mic to do future podcasts like this. so i assure you, the next time we give this a shot, we will sound much better.

Trevor McFur said...

That map is great ... it'll need to be expanded, though, if the book makes it across the pond.

My dog (7 months old) has chewed through 5 iPod USB cables in the past 2 months. I've been unable to just go to the store and buy a single iPod USB cable alone, it's always, cable + powerpack, cable + PDA adaptor, cable + car adaptor, etc. So I've finally learned to stop leaving cables at doggie-eye level.

memphish said...

So if Smokey took out Greg Grunberg just because he knew years in advance that he was going to have the most annoying "Hero" power and prove his own might, why not just drag Scott or Steve off the beach that first night? Why merely knock down trees 2 times at the beach in that first 48 hours, but take out the pilot in under 24 and only in front of 3 of the survivors?

I was unable to perform this week, but at least my playlist was part of the show. Ralph added a song to the ones I chose, so see if you can guess which one.

This illness can go suck an egg, friends. I started feeling bad on Sunday and I'M STILL OUT OF IT! I'm not hurting like I was in the beginning of the week, but I'm still woozy in the head, which is totally for the birds.

Ralph- said...

I am sure the Flyers can help you out. I cannot wait for tonight. i need to go find the train wistle

Benjamin said...

Dude, they helped me out fine on Wednesday!

So I was reading up on this Burn Notice show, and I think I'll watch it. I don't have a lot going on, TV-wise, and I like some of the other shows on USA. Speaking of which, anyone here stoked about the return of The 4400 on Sunday?

Jordan said...

I'm checking out Dexter. Has anybody on here seen this show? I also plan on watching The Wire at some point, but the 6 or so seasons is a bit daunting.

Nice to hear from ya Ben. Glad you're just sick and didn't pull a JLo on Ralph as had been rumored.

Dexter was too grim/unpleasant for me.

The magic box canes my bandwidth so I'm probably just gonna catch up on all the DVDs I haven't opened yet:

- Secretary
- Wet Hot American Summer
- Romance & Cigarettes
- Jarhead
- Me, Myself & Irene

anyone seen these?

Jordan said...

I've seen them all except Romance & Cigarettes. Wet Hot American Summer is great. Jarhead & Irene are both pretty good overall. You'll like Secretary. ;)

elias said...

I've seen a bit of Jarhead and haven't committed to watching it properly. I think I've seen some of Irene on TV but can't remember it at all.

Secretary is top of the list thanks to the DVD cover ;)

Jordan said...

I saw secretary in the theater. It was quite the odd film to watch in the company of strangers.

t-dot kim said...

Jordan, I kinda liked Dexter. I wasn't too keen on the subjet matter, but the show is pretty good.

[ally] said...

I've only seen Jarhead, it's pretty good. Most people didn't like it, but I think it's because it's not your typical "war movie".

Anonymous said...

I just noticed your new picture Kim. OMG you're as Hot looking as you sound.

And Ralph's new picture he is reading a BOOK? That's a photoshop job right?

Can't wait to listen downloading now.

Jordan said...

Ally is dead on. Don't go into Jarhead expecting explosions and battle scenes. It's about what it's like to be a soldier from a mental aspect and how sitting around for long periods of time and the thought of war messes with your mind. At least that's what I got from it.

[ally] said...

Yeah, J, that's what i got from it too.

[ally] said...

KABLAMO!

Stephanie said...

yeah, I got that too from Jarhead. I liked it. Jamie Fox is the best part.

Benjamin said...

Goofball, don't let your eyes deceive you. You can put a book in front of Ralph's eyes, but that doesn't necessarily mean he's reading it. Although, one of the books he voluntarily read and enjoyed was the Evil Dead Companion, if memory serves, so this one may not be the optical illusion we think it is.

Elias, are you on a Gyllenhaal kick or something? Stevi (Ralph's wife) and I were discussing how it would be cool if Netflix had a shuffle feature. Because you get in a mode when you're adding movies and the next thing you know you have fifteen horror films in a row. It would be nice if you could hit a shuffle button and mix things up (as long as TV series stayed in order.)

Ralph- said...

Cute Story. Ben's girlfriend becky got me the Evid Dead companion and before i knew it, i actually read all of it. i wouldnt say it was voluntary, but rather sneaky..

I have read 4 chapters of Make Love* and really liked it. aparently not enough to make me read some more.

A book that i will read over and over again unprovoked is Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Stevi tried to give me The BFG from Roald Dahl, but i can read it. And i have never got past the first chapter of Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator. oh Well.

*The Bruce Campbell Way

Ralph- said...

Evid = Evil

and Can = Can't

Have a good weekend!

Benjamin said...

Unprovoked. That's an awesome way of putting it!

I too am clocking out for the weekend soon, kids. Make it count!

Stephanie said...

Ben, the only problem I have with Netflix so far is that you can only send a movie directly to the top of your queue. I really wish I could adjust the order.
In other news, Prince Harry seems (I can't believe I'm saying this) to be catching up with his brother in the looks department. Prince William has peaked.
Now something about Lost. The funeral director in the finale is in Levitra commercials too.

Jordan said...

What do you mean Steph? You can go into your queue and change the numbers of the movies manually.

Stephanie said...

You can?

Benjamin said...

You can, but you have to manage it. You can swap number 16 with number 2 and so on, as long as you haven't made any errors, you should be OK.

Stephanie said...

I'm really psyched for the Silver Surfer and Nancy Drew. Will see next week.

Jordan said...

OK, I think I have decided to begin to re-rate all my movies on netflix. Once I get enough done, I'll add some people on here to see who is my movie soul mate. People should post their links to their netflix accounts in their profiles on here. That would be cool.

I'm surprised that Ally, being a chick like me, is the least like me of all my 5 friends. But what really shocks me is ralph- is 74% similiar to me. On one hand I'm scared but on the other, I'm not surprised.
Jordan, I knew it was a matter of time before you gave in to the peer pressure.
I predict Jordan from the 206 will be at least 80% similiar to Stephanie from the 205. So close in area codes but so far away.

I've a new Lost illustration on my blog, this one being Christian Shephard. Other Lost drawings will follow. I plan to post a new one every other day. So keep checking.

andrew. said...

- Sara - thank you for passing along that very important information. i'm going to go look for a Take-home Chef fan forum now. I've never heard of, let alone seen, that show but now i'm convinced it's great.

- Tall Guy - great job on the blog. i really need to be better about drawing regularly. i really like both versions of the cars in the city.

- Palmer - the Netflix has all of the TV shows. the only issue is that you have to rent them 1 disc at a time, so, for instance, i've got discs 5 & 6 of Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 2 at home right now.
The plans vary by the number of DVDs you have at home at any given time. The cheapest plan is 1-disc at a time which is $4.99 a month.

- listened to the Rambalars on the commute home. It's really cool that Ralph and Jay & Jack are such good friends. Ben, you were missed, get better soon.

- Dre - more power to you but i have no idea what you're talking about on the Lars line anymore

- Jordan - have i mentioned that every time i see your avatar with Gob, i think he's holding somebody by the ankles. (it doesn't have to be dirty, it could be a wheelbarrow-walk competition)

- Extremely cute trailer for Pixar's next movie "Wall-E": Clickie Here

Cut out "Cars" and Pixar is batting 1000.

Ralph- said...

Palmer, Just fucking do it!

is that motivation? if not, there are several different plans, and it is better than going to the video store and walking around like zombies trying to pick a movie to watch. It has like every tv show that is on dvd. Also, you can sit there and pick 100 million movies that you want to watch and any one, two or three of them will show up at your door within 2 days.

So, as i said, just do it.

Ralph- said...

Andrew, i think that Cars is underrated. i think that cars main audience is people that remember a simpler time. i commend Pixar for having the balls to make a movie for the Baby boomers, disguised as a kids movie.

not a lot of movies are great for grandparents to watch with their grandchildren. love Cars!

just my 2 cents

Trevor McFur said...

Palmer, if you want some specifics on Netflix's cheapo plans, the cheapest unlimited plan you can get is 9.99/month, but that's only one movie at a time. There's an even cheaper, 4.99/month plan, but that limits you to 2 movies a month. The unlimited plans are, ummmm, unlimited, so you get a new movie as soon as you send back an old one. There's 2 movies at a time for 14.99/month, and 3 at a time for 17.99/month. The movies pretty consistently take 2 business days from the time you mail it until you get a new one (does take longer if you mail on the weekends). I've never looked for a movie and not found it (except for porn :( ) ... independants, foreigns, classics, whatever; once in a while, there's a little bit of backlog with brand new, super-popular films, but those are usually pretty minimal. If you're a serious movie watcher, you could probably watch a movie every night of the week for a lot less than you would going to the video store. If you're more casual, it's probably roughly on par with what you'd pay at Blockbuster, with the convenience of having the movie delivered.

One last thing, I've been a member for 7 years, and maybe 5 times I've had a movie get lost in the mail, or had the disc be delivered broken or unable to play for some reason. Each time, they sent me a new movie as soon as I reported it, no questions asked.

Sex Lies and Videotape is too '90s and i cant relate with the characters.

Out of Sight is a movie i cant recommend enough.

Ocean's 11, well i am sure i dont have to tell you about this one.

Traffic. Very good film. Total Drama!

Elias? You live in Ealing? Excellent stuff. Then again there's stuff down near Kingsbury in that as well.

I used to live down that way and as such it was really endearing to see the Drayton Court pub drop up (less said about Hale and Pace in the shop, the better). Those roads also feature (with a big wad of South Ealing) in Carry On Constable (and, obviously, about 4000 other Ealing comedies).

I liked Ealing...

Survival does indeed feature Cheetah people. No so much a playground - more a youth centre.

And had that campy bad guy in... the Master, that's it.

What's the deal, Palmer? Are you an ex-pat? Just a big fan?

Johnny Ghostwatch said...

In what universe would the "Day Of The Dead" remake be considered an indie?

In this one, being as it's from the independent Millennium Films.

Which is why DOTD in on this list of Indpendent "Indy" Films in Production/Development

Johnny Ghostwatch said...

The link went a bit mental. Maybe it was my appalling spelling.

Let's try again!

andrew. said...

Seeing Nick Canon attached to a big budget horror remake doesn't scream indie to me but i guess i stand corrected Ghostwatch. i read up a little on Millenium Films and it really does seem to be an independent production company, and not just a vanity label for a 20th Century Fox or Disney.

Coming from the realm of record labels being run out of bedrooms and friends maxing out their credit cards to buy film stock, the word indie just conjures up a very different frame of reference.

Trevor McFur said...

I guess that list shows that some indie films are more fartsy than artsy.

PalmerEldritch said...

been watching Dr Who since i was young. probably since before i can remember since my dad has been watching it since the seventies and i wasn't born til '81.

it used to play on PBS along with Monty Python, Blackadder, and Red Dwarf. unfortunately, they also played Are You Being Served? and the one with the old lady named after a flower... Keeping Up Appearances?

they'd play Who in hour chunks or more. so, you'd get to see the whole storyline played out. often, they'd play it late at night (11 or later) but also Sunday in the early afternoons.

it was good cheap SciFi and had daleks and Davros and the Brigadier. and Leela in her animal skin outfit.

i can remember watching both Bakers, Davison, Pertwee, McCoy, and even the McGann TV movie when it came out in '96. i've seen a bit of Hartnell and Troughton but certainly not a lot. and even then i might be thinking of The Three Doctors or The Five Doctors...

and i've been to England (and Scotland) but it was... eleven years ago? that is when i first learned of the horror that was the Teletubbies.

but i bought a pretty sweet gas mask at Piccadilly Circus. which came in real handy once the WW2 two parter with Eccleston aired.

my buddy went to Oxford and said that there's a Doctor Who club that goes around to all the filming locations for fun. yeesh.

Johnny Ghostwatch said...

Hey, Andrew, that came out much pissier than I anticipated. The biggest argument, of course, is that technically the Star Wars films are independent, they are just distributed THROUGH 20th Century Fox.

Palmer - I've never been to Scotland, even though my landmass is attached to it.

Keeping Up Appearances is indeed the comedy of manners with Hyacinth Bucket. Each episode is a nice sedate farce but without the tight plotting and frankly astonishing timing of, say, Fawlty Towers.

PalmerEldritch said...

ah, yes! Fawlty Towers. seen that too.

nothing like the episode with the Germans or the conversations with the waiter.

"Que!"
"What?"
"Si!"

Stephanie said...

Palmer, I've started on your 4400. Reminds me of a soap opera with it's too pretty actors. But it is twisty like I like my tv.I just have to keep reminding myself it's USA and not ABC.
Robot Chicken Star Wars Special anyone?

Stephanie said...

The special was somewhat dissapointing. I know the show is written for 12 year old boys but I had big expectations since George was making an appearance.

PalmerEldritch said...

yeah, i wasn't too impressed by the trailers for the Star Wars Robot Chicken thing at the movies the other week so i didn't make any plans to go out of my way to watch it.

Just checking in...nice to see all here still. Had a busy Fathers Day (I'm a Dad)...didn't call my own Dad, but he never recognizes me on the phone anyway.

Palmer...I think I know all 13 Fawlty Towers eps off by heart. I can actually remember it being advertised as a new show when it came out in the 70's. Hearing my parents laughing their asses off watching it. As I got older, I had a huge crush on Connie Booth.

I hope all are well? Cheers,
Jimmy.

Basil Fawlty is the man. Connie was a babe.

Anyone besides me ever watch Red Dwarf?

t-dot kim said...

Red Dwarf!!! That reminds me of going to my Uncle's house at Christmas. He'd only let us watch recordings of Red Dwarf on TV.

Trevor McFur said...

I didn't see The 4400 last night; hopefully I'll catch up tonight ... anyone see it and have an opinion? I've heard that they're going to be goiing back to the 'Freak of the Week' format for the first few weeks, which I really didn't like hearing! The creators of this show must have gone nuts when they saw how big a hit Heroes was this year.

PalmerEldritch said...

Trevor, it was a freak of the week episode. But they used the FOTW as an excuse to let out some "HOLY $#!T" revelations. And it was a pretty entertaining FOTW.

Kim, I swear I'm not your uncle. At least I don't think so.

/smeg off!

Ghost - The Drayton is my local and it's full of underage punters nowadays. Unfortunately I don't have any plans to see the 'Who, but I'm gonna see 'The Who' at Glasto this weekend :)

Fawlty Towers is perfection, and the best British TV show ever made. Have to agree with Jimmy's crush on Connie Booth.

Red Dwarf was smegging great and I know seasons 1-6 off by heart. Top of my head favourites - Marooned (the camphorwood chest), Back to Reality and Dimension Jump (Ace Rimmer).

Benjamin said...

You guys better make sure Ralph knows that you started talking about Red Dwarf without any provocation from me. I freaking love that show. I have every episode on DVD or tape (can't bring myself to spend the final amount of cash to fill out the DVD collection) and I have three of the books. Great, great show.

I'm trying to read the page lightly today because I didn't watch 4400 last night, I taped it, and I'm afraid of you guys unintentionally dropping spoilers. I'm looking forward to seeing it tonight, as well as that new John From Cincinatti. I figured I'd give it a try, since there's a bit of a gap in my TV schedule lately.

Here's a general question. Would you take a Promycin injection?

memphish said...

Ben, with a needle? Honestly, beats me. I guess you're feeling a little better if you're blogging. Looking forward to the next 'Lars.

Holli

elias said...

you mean Ralph hates the Dwarf? his geek credentials are in tatters ;)

Jordan said...

Ben, If the first episode is any indication, John from Cincinnati blows. But you can judge for yourself. Who knows, maybe it will get better. But I was beyond bored watching it.

PalmerEldritch said...

ben,

hell no, i wouldn't take a shot of promicin. that's a 50-50 on dying. count me out.

now, if my life sucked then sure why not. which means that all the people who take it are going to be people who've already hit rock bottom, people who aren't good at assessing risk, or people who suck at fractions.

ben, nice to know you're a fellow Red Dwarf fan. what did you think of the finale?

elias, Ace Rimmer is my idol.

holli, you're a 4400 fan? sweet.

everyone, Steph's catching season 1 of The 4400 so let's try not to give away too much of previous seasons. which i might have done already in response to Ben's questions. sorry, Steph!!

Benjamin said...

Holli, you'd take the Promycin risk, but you're afraid of needles? Is that what you're saying? I am feeling much better, thank you. I'm still not a hundred percent (which bugs) but I'm thriving compared to last week.

I'm not saying Ralph hates the boys from the Dwarf, specifically. But I do think it's better that he doesn't think I'm trying to hijack the convo and take it in a smeghead direction.

Not a glowing first review of JFC, dude.

Hey, also on HBO is the Flight of the Conchords series. I have a lot of taped TV to watch tonight!

Q&A with Paul Potts. Relevant portion of previous discussion below.

Will you have a Hollywood-style makeover?
No, I'll stay who I am. People have suggested I change my name now. I won’t do that – I’m me, I’m just Paul Potts.

But someone's offered to fix your teeth?
Well, I wouldn’t like to have veneers put on my teeth but I would like to have the crowns fixed, you know, ordinary dental work. I don’t think my look will change much.

Holli

P.S. Who's cuter -- Paul or Knut?

memphish said...

Ben, sorry I misread that question earlier. I thought it said "How" do you take it. What is it? I'm terrible with medicine names and law firm names.

Holli

Benjamin said...

Holli, it's from The 4400, which is why you likely haven't heard of it. I'm a little sorry to bring it up as it's a minor spoiler for Steph, but she should still be able to enjoy the show (despite my interference.)

Palmer, I think I'm with you, and I like your analysis of the situation regarding those that would accept the chance. Still, the idea is somewhat tempting. But even if you roll that die and end up on the powers side (not the other one) you still have to roll the even crazier power die, and you may not like those results either.

As for the finale of Red Dwarf, I didn't dislike it any more than any other cliffhanger, but the fact that it remains unresolved is a bit of a bummer. I kind of take the stance that just about every season of Red Dwarf takes place in a parallel universe, so I guess I'm not too wigged out about one of them going in that direction. I would have to say my favorite episodes are Stasis Leak, Thanks for the Memory, and all the others.

Jordan said...

Has anybody on here watched Oz? It's one of my favorite shows, yet I don't think I have ever met anyone who has watched it.

elias said...

I've seen season 1 and have the rest sitting there. Adewale is fucking harsh!

andrew. said...

-i've never seen a whole episode of Red Dwarf. Whenever i'd stumble onto it on PBS it was always halfway through an episode and made no sense. Maybe Ralph had the same experience. I had the same problem with "The Young Ones" when i was younger and that's one of my favorite shows, so i'm sure Red Dwarf is great.

-I saw 1 episode of Oz back in the day, something to do with dudes hiding & fighting over a cel phone in the cell block. It seemed like a good, dramatic show but not really big on the realism.

-Episode 2 of John From Cincinatti was more bad news. I'm trying to give it a fair shake but the acting is rough. One of my friends suggested that they might be going for a David Lynch feel, but i'm afraid the show might just suck.

andrew

Jordan said...

Oz is seriously bad ass. Yeah, the realism is obviously not there. But how interesting would it have been if it was realistic? I watch every episode from start to finish. And while it tailed off a bit at the end, it was great all the way. So many amazing characters, so many omg jump out of your seat moments, just great stuff. Not for everybody or the squeemish by any means. Elias is right. Eko is off the charts on that show. One of the best television characters ever.

Mike Campbell said...

Just watched 'The 4400'. Not a bad catch-up episode; it's been so long I forgot what had happened at the end of last year. I hope the FotW episodes are limited, though ... show's only on 12 or 13 weeks, I want mythology.

And I'd skip the promycin myself. Would agree that it would be a more desperate group of people who would be willing to take that 50% risk. Plus, to quote 'The Incredibles', "If everyone is special ... no one is".

Johnny Ghostwatch said...

I seem to be Doctor Who-ing up the Blogspot quite effecively.

There's nearly always a reason to watch an episode of Doctor Who and even though Utopia's "stragglers of humankind" storyline is a bit uninspiring, it's probably worth sticking with.

MB? How are you getting on with it?

Oh, and Blink is "fucking" awesome. Just a scary little tale - could just be a one off short story with a time traveller in.

The angels have the phone box!

mb said...

Whew - multiple days worth of blog-catch-up is a lot - I gotta remember to check in here everyday!

Thanks for the Dad day shoutouts - and a belated Happy one to all other fathers or to-be fathers who are reading. I was given the afternoon to myself and I took the opportunity to see Hot Fuzz. Laughed my ass off - loved it. Anyone else seen it?

That future celebs Father's day video was hilaruious - thanks Holli!

Casey - That EXCELLENT news about your cat! Hope he/she continues to get better.

Re: Dr. Who - Wow Ghost - you posted as I was writing this. I guess I have semi decent timing for once in my life.
I am up to date on viewing, and Palmer - not sure who you heard bad things about Utopia from but it's pretty good IMO. I await the next two episodes, b/c it felt like the first part of a three parter (sort of). And ghost is right - even if you have been following plot rumors, the ending is pretty kick ass and leaves you begging for next week. And having Jacobi be the one to play that part was dramatically symphonic - he was pitch perfect I think (as if you'd expect much less - lol). The story WAS pretty thin - but I did love the production design, and I liked the Capt. Jack reunion (even if his hanging-on maneuver seemed a bit over the top - but you've got to have moments like that in Who to keep it from getting too serious IMO)
Going back to Blink - I cannot stop wanting to tell people what a kick-ass episode that was. And I agree with Ghost that it would be a great episode to show a newbie to Who (aside from the fact that the Doctor is not the main character). And I agree with Palmer that Sally Sparrow and Kathy Nightingale are not ugly. Also, it did something that some of my favorite Who stories do which is make time travel an active part of the story instead of a simply the reason that they land where they land this week. I am in no way dissing temporally fixed stories - but since it was done well it just made the episode really good.

And Ghost - that WOULD be a kick ass idea if the angels did get a hold of the TARDIS.

re: Paul Potts - ...I....I.......the only thing I can say is, until right now I firmly believed I would never pay money for an album of opera music, yet my iPod is going to have Paul Potts on it when it is released. Wow. (but HOLY SHITE - Lux Aeterna even made into the winner announcement segement - that tune needs to be retired from use for 2 yrs. minimum)

Doctor Who to Lost?

Billie Piper was in Doctor Who.
She was married to Chris Evans, who's a ginger tosser.
Another ginger tosser is Martin, out of 'Game On' (popular english tv show - imdb it).
One of the main characters was Matthew Malone, played by Ben Chaplin.
Another Chaplin is Charlie.
Charlie is someone out of Lost.
