In fact, I'm gonna use this opportunity to stink up the joint with a couple of Doctor Who points:

"Rusty" Davies is likely to move on soon, heavy rumours are that Stephen "Fucking Amazing" Moffat may move into his role.

The last ten/fifteen minutes of Utopia are indeed supery-dupery. It's not just Jacobi, though, Jack and El Docco's face off through a sealed door is also good stuff. Nice to see Jack back after Torchwood - the whole of which seemed like an appalling drunken bet as to whether they could get it on air.

I'm trying to describe it in a US-TV friendly way. Torchwood is an adult spinoff of Doctor Who - imagine if during Quantum Leap, HBO decided to make a series about Al the hologram in the future, where he collects a group of sexy young adventurers who solve mysteries and spend 60% of the episode swearing and fucking each other, and you'd have to find a way of explaining to your kids why they couldn't watch it without going into detail. THAT's what Torchwood was like.

The "the angels have the phone box" comment wasn't an idea for a followup story (I'd love it if they never came back, just remained totally self contained). It was one of the phrases the Doctor used. In the episode we were told it was already on a T-shirt. A few days after Blink aired, it actually WAS on a T-shirt.

Now for the rest of the three-parter. Even the fact it was a three-parter has been well hidden. Most were expecting just a two-parter next week. It was a great misdirect by the BBC - they were planning on a big move for the series that to be honest, most people figured out and then they manage to make it happen one week earlier and in a different way to what they were expecting. Pretty good! If you were unsure what was going on with Jacobi at the end (not right at the end, just the stuff with the watch) then you'll need to pull up the Doctor Who episodes "Human Nature" and "The Family of Blood". Not only will you get 90 mins of great TV, but you will also feel enlightened.

Back when the Daleks were building the Empire State Building and cats were flying cars I was getting particularly despondent with this series of New Who, but I think in the last few weeks it's become the best one since it came back.

I put it to you, LOST people, that even if you didn't watch the old series, nab an episode guide from somewhere and download as much New-Who as you can in The Hiatus. It's a bit creaky in places, and cheap and British but when it hits, it hits hard. And I promise that that although before its return it ran for 26 years, you will not need anything explaining to you. Except, perhaps, the last ten minutes of Utopia - but I reckon he'll be explained next week.

VOTE SAXON!

Now back to you guys!

Ghostwatch.

To be honest, I've given up on the Russell Davis version of Who. Too much sentiment and smugness. Lazy writing and far too many scenes people shouting exposition at one another while running around frantically.

I did see on YouTube, ten minutes of Derek Jacabi as The Master, and thought him terrific. What a shame they decided not to keep him on in the part. His replacement, John Simm, seems to be playing it for laughs. Wheres the menace?

Anyway.

I've a new Lost illustration up at my blog. This one features Micheal

All together now.

WAAAAALLLTTTT!

Mike, I'm supremely jealous of your trip to Switzerland. What part?

Go Flyers! We still haven't been to a Memphish Redbirds - AAA St. Louis - game this season because of inertia. "But I'll have to pay to park downtown," has been whined.

LOST question for the day: What's your best Vincent theory? Demon dog of doom? Luckiest lab alive? Smokey in disguise?

What's the Fullerton Flyer connection to LOST? It's all in the blurb that El Ralpho wrote up. First to guess correctly wins bragging rights for the summer.

Ghostwatch, there were certainly some stinky ass episodes this season. But at least four of the episodes so far have been pretty good.

I will say one thing about this three parter though. It being Russell T. Davies' baby, it'll up the odds impossibly high and then have a crappy two minute fix that isn't overly clever but instead overly convenient. Hopefully, he'll tack on a nice emotional ending like last season. That saved the finale after his solution to the Cybermen issue nearly killed the episode for me.

Tall Guy, get back on board the Doctor Who Express. Episodes like "Blink," "The Girl in the Fireplace," The WW2 Two-Parter, and the Family of Blood two-parter make up for the less stellar episodes. And it's almost always entertaining even if the story leaves something to be desired.

If you thought professional poker players were weird, check out these Donkey Kong guys. The "winner" guy looks like Keith Partridge. (Yes, I know that shows my age.)

Aimee, you come back to us now at the turn of tide... or something cliche like that.

Welcome back.

And she's even got a Viagra reference? Aimee's putting the Full back into the Fullerton Flyers.

We missed you, by the way. :)

And welcome Aimee!!!!! You show up and no one's here. :(

We're next on her list...

And anyone into dance music in anyway should check out Justice, French Band - the 'new' Daft Punk.

Palmer, I love it when people talk like Gandalf. First the Dunedain, now Mithrandir? You're good.

I missed you guys too.

Teej, she would've made a better looking Tricia Tanaka, seeing as how she's a reporter and all that.

aimee is lost said...

and yes, boobs.

anyone ever watch Univision?

it's all young babes (often butterfaces but not always) hooking up with middle aged men with silly mustaches.

i'm guessing the target audience is... middle aged men with silly mustaches.

Aimee, where have you been? Out fighting crime or something? Anyways, we missed you.
So that's why palmer sometimes doesn't make sense to me, it's LOTR talk and crazy PBS show talk.
Holli, I say Luckiest Lab Alive. That or JJ just thought a dog on the island would confuse us.

I suppose there's no point in keeping it a secret any longer; you guys are like family...that I disappear from periodically.

I am Batman.

Seriously though, I just separated from my husband, and moved into an apartment, so Chile Biscuit and I have been trying to get adjusted to all that. You guys are awesome & deserve the truth, don't believe Kim's propaganda about her being busy.

I just saw the bat-signal so I gotta run, I'll be back in a little while!

PalmerEldritch said...

well, this is an uncomfortable blogspot silence...

there, that's better. :)

Indeed Palmer, gotta love her. Not just boobs though, pretty as hell too.
I believe i am in lust with her.

Actually just read Aimee's last post - really sorry to hear about that, if it's true. But god in heaven help all of mankind that get in the way of her on the rebound!

I tried watching Zorro: La Espada y La Rosa but the episode I tried watching had zero Zorro in it. And it's in Spanish so I only understand about half the dialogue...

But I wanted to watch it because Zorro is like Batman with a sword.

And since Aimee is Batman... Sword + Aimee = Zorro? Cool.

PalmerEldritch said...

i was thinking more that it was GOODWIN field... but i'll accept your answer.

that's right. the fullerton flyers' field was banging Juliet in an ice cream fueled orgy of desire.

memphish said...

Another reason to hate Juliet. She's the Annie Savoy of the Fullerton Flyers or at least the field namer.

Batman, you have the support of a bunch of weirdos on the Internet. I hope you know that.

Hi Aimee. Nice to meet you. My name is Jordan. ;)

Seriously, when I first saw you post on here, I wanted to give you a hard time for abandoning us. But seeing as you've been dealing with some real ass stuff, I'll save that for my next post. ;) Like Ben said, you have a family of weirdos on the internet here for you. Hope you're doing as well as can be. Whatever the case, know that your return here has brightened many of our days.

Razzle dazzle bitch. :)

PalmerEldritch said...

Let's give Batman some time before everyone volunteers to play Robin.

But, for the record, she's probably aiming for a Robin who talks like Gandalf, isn't missing their shoulders, does not have a coconut head, and who doesn't shave or cut their hair all the time. Living for hundreds of years as you're descended from the men of Numenor is a plus.

aimee is lost said...

Thanks guys! Thuys! Didn't intend to create any uncomfortable silences - ya'll are my homies, and I'd never abandon you.

Top 5 Things About Having Your Own Place:

3. Clothing Optional
4. Getting to read whenever you want, and not having to leave the room.

Clothing optional? Cool! With the dog in the bed? Uhhhh, not so sure about that one....

Oh! You have to live alone for clothing to be optional? That explains why my roommates keep staring at my wang.

Woah, Trevor, your steering that conversation in the wrong direction! Everyone here knows I sleep in my WonderWoman PJ's anyway.

PalmerEldritch said...

Ben, he's not staring at your wang so much as the Bea Arthur tattoo on your scrotum.

PalmerEldritch said...

Sweet, Ben. Along with my Rue McClanaghan and Estelle Getty tats, we've got all the Golden Girls covered.

Or uncovered since we're not wearing pants.

Maybe we should buy Wonder Woman PJs?

mb said...

Well hot damn,
Welcome back Aimee from Little Rock. So glad to see ya again (Mac says hi too and wants to know if you need a desktop computer around the house). I think its apparent that we all think you rock.

Palmer/Ben - could you have thought of more painful places to talk about having tattoos? Yeesh.

re: the Donkey Kong movie - is that out. I'm gonna have to see it - that's some nostalgia baby.

Mike - all sympathies to you re: your passport. my parents just went through that and got SCREWED and had to cancel their trip to Europe. You're situation will probably turn out better - but it is f-ed up. NPR did a story on it recently, and it is a definite crisis (brought on by the new stringent regulations)

re: Doctor Who - I also heard that Russell was stepping down as numero uno. Moffat would be awesome if we were to get more stories out of him. However, that show does seem pretty labor intensive, and maybe I'm not giving Steve-o enough credit, but I'm worried his output would be diluted b/c of all the other responsibilities that would go along with the job. But I'm just talking out of my ass (it's amazing) - what do I know.

re: Utopia - the Futurekind could be interesting if they actually DO something with them in the next episode (which I doubt they will) - seems like their backstory could be good. The episode was basically a vehicle to explain loose ends and introduce the big villain. It was indeed plot-lite and dialoggue heavy, but I really enjoyed it. The music was no small part of that either - I can't get it out of my head. Loving Murray Gold - good stuff!

That's hilarious about the "angels have the phone box" t-shirt - I almost want to get one.

I think I may be the only one who saw some value in Torchwood. I'm baffled as to how the entire production crew didn't see that the stories would have actually been decent w/out all the boinking and teen-like drama. As far as I had heard it's coming back though, so we'll see.

-Welcome back to the blogspot Aimee. I picture you in your apartment, clothing optional, with all sorts of maps spread out on the floor. "I wasn't supposed to leave. I've got to get back!"

- Am i on the Chin book list somewhere? i've been trying to get on forever.

- I think even worse than imagining a Betty Wight taint tattoo is imagining somebody holding their legs up while getting her lovely visage needlepointed in the gooch.

- i think we broke Netflix's Friends feature. It's been down for 3 days now.

andrew.

aimee is lost said...

Well Andrew, it apparently worked!

Trevor McFur said...

Andrew, I know that Ralph asked for it after me ... after him I have no idea. We should make a list or something as to where it goes next!

And Batman Aimee wears Wonder Woman underwear? Or wears Wonder Woman's underwear? Either way, I'm intrigued.

Ralph- said...

i have no idea who is supposed to get it before me. but i do eventually want to check it out.

Aimee is batman, but does not wear her bat costume to bed. she wears regular old pjs, they just happen to be wonderwoman. i am sure no matter what pjs aimee wears, she is wonder woman in them ;)

i demanded a pic of aimee in her PJs on the next thread. i hope she is wearing the ones pictured!!

Hello Blogspotters...
I haven't posted in a while.

Aimee, I hope all turns out well for you.

Ben, it was odd to not hear you in the LARS, but Jay and Jack were an interesting substitute. I do feel that the minute they are in the show, Ralph you hold back the explicit stuff...still funny though.

On a completely different subject...what do you guys out in Cali think of Kobe Bryant and all his wanted to be traded whining. I think they should keep him and make him miserable. He signed a contract...and should live up to it.
