It's All About the Dress

Evangeline Lilly scores the first major nomination of her young career, and Lost also picks up a nod for Best Drama. I am of course, talking about the 64th Annual Golden Globe nominations, announced this morning.

She's up against Patricia Arquette, Edie Falco, Ellen Pompeo, and Kyra Sedgwick.

I think she has a decent chance of winning. What do you guys think?

Stephanie said...

She's the only actor that got nominated? I wonder which epi was submitted for consideration. What Kate Did? She did a great job in it with the loseing her mind act.

Anonymous said...

Never mind all that, christ she's pretty!

aimee is lost said...

I don't know if they considered season 2 or season 3. Season 2 was considered for last year's awards, and Heroes just started recently (and was nominated), so I'm thinking this applies to season 3.

aimee is lost said...

Then why is it that Heroes was nominated for Best Drama and it's only halfway through its first season right now?

aimee is lost said...

I know that's how they select the films, but I didn't realize they ranked the television shows by calendar year; that's interesting.

I'm glad to see Evie got nominated. I don't think her acting has been as strong as it was in the first season. She sort of developed "the hurt face" and went with it, but she still does an excellent job and i hope Lost winning some awards will shut up all of the fucking "jumped the shark" internet trolls.

andrew.

ps. congrats to a graduated Mike

It's after 11:30 EST now. Mike is officially a college graduate! Congrats!

Good Job Bro! i know that you still have a final in a week, but i have faith in you!

Mike Campbell said...

i did graduate. it was sweet. boo finals. YAY golden globes!!

The Golden Globes suck. Who are the Hollywood Foreign Press Association? For my money, the only real awards are the annual World's Greatest Grandpas.

Come on Seaman Poop Deck

You must know that the only awards with real merit are the MTV Movie Awards and VMA's.

hahahahah...

For my money, it doesn't get any better than the Darwin awards. I like to hear about stupid people dying. But that's just the genetic elitist in me.

However, I'm still really happy for Lost, even though I know they probably won't win - season 2 just wasn't strong enough. Not enough Henry Gale or Desmond.

Evangeline though, I think could take the Globie. I don't really watch any of the other shows, but she's way hotter than any of those other chicks. Oh wait, I forgot the Golden Globes isn't sponsored by Maxim. Dammit. Well, she could still win.

Mike Campbell said...

Too bad the sopranos always win. So the wife from that might beat her.

Anonymous said...

I hope Masi Oka wins the golden globe for supporting actor for his role on Heroes. He great on that show.

Anyone watch the hour long Office episode last night. It was good. I couldn't stop laughing when Michael marked his girl with a sharpie so he could tell her apart from the other Benihana waitresses.

aimee is lost said...

The Office was so funny last night! I wish it was always an hour long.

Anonymous said...

Really enjoyed the office last night. It was closer in tone to the UK Office

did they actually show him marking her arm or did he just confess it to Jim at the end? i didn't see him mark her. also, did we find out who agreed to go with him at the end of the episode or was that left a mystery? (trying to avoid spoilerish conversation, even though i think sitcoms should be exempt from such worries)

Has anyone seen the Bikerfox podcast on itunes? Is this the same guy from the pic that was posted on this blog months ago?

Stephanie said...

Michael marking on the Asian Hooter girl's arm was even funnier than Jim putting nickels in Dwight's headset.

Stephanie said...

Well, Andrew, I was going to answer your question but I had memory loss also. I don't think we did. I wonder if it was Jan.
Anybody else ever think Jim and Jan might hook up?

Anonymous said...

omg...when Michael tagged his Asian "gf", I lost it! Who else thought Michael called Jan to invite her to Jamica?

Steph, I thought for a split second in the "Casino Night" episode Jim & Jan were going hook up, but that was it.

I think the Gloden Globe nods were evenly spread this year among all the top shows. I think Sandra Oh was robbed for not being nominated but that's my only beef. I've never watched "Dexter" or heard of it for that matter... what's that about?

And Beyonce nominated for BEST actress, *barf* are you shittin' me? I think she should stick to what she's good at... and acting ain't one of them...ok, I'm done

[ally] said...

i'm still trying to get over the fact that leo dicaprio was nominated twice for the same category, that the fact that beyoncé is nominated didn't even hit me until now.

anyway, i hope evangeline wins. maybe we need to come up with predictions to see who all is gonna win in our favorite categories...

i'm also hoping that masi oka wins for heroes - he's just the cutest thing.

Kimberley, Dexter is a horrible show on Showtime about a serial killer with a heart.

http://www.sho.com/site/dexter/home.do?source=shocom_nav

Mike Campbell said...

ah i thought dexter was kinda good. I have only seen the first episode though.

Stephanie said...

Beyonce - horrible in The Fighting Temptations and not much better in that Austin Powers movie.

Leo- awesome

Roy sure is starting to look good, isn't he? That's Pam's ex's name, right?

Anonymous said...

Kim,

Dexter is amazing, and stephsmith might like to get back to watching shows that involve McDreamys and McSteamy as that is the kinda vibe I get from her if she has that sort of reaction to Dexter. It's twisted, it's dark, and wholly original. Basically, he's in forensics - a blood splatter analylist that moonlights as a serial killer. When there are people he feels have escaped the grasp of the law, he'll go out and murder them, extremely professionally. A hard core vigilante. The moral ambiguity of it is part of it's genius. The early episodes have flashbacks thats flesh out his character and how he became to be this way as well. Michael C Hall of Six Feet Under fame plays the lead character, and he's brilliant, and I'll be rooting for him in his catergory.

Anyway, apart from that and not getting any podcasts, I'd really like to see LOST win but I don't think that it'll happen, what with it winning last year and with there being so much fucking hating on it going on (here's looking at you, RALPH). Evi has more of a chance in her category. I'd love to see Hiro winning but HEROES even being nominated after 11 episodes is a joke - has there even been one dramatic moment on that series? Sure, there's cool special effects and a very interesting plot, but best DRAMA?

Oh, and go The Office, The Departed, Scorsese, Leo, and Jack Nicholson. Go Letters From Iwo Jima for best Foreign Film.

Go here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0wdKD7bCAOA

and skip to about the 3:30 mark. It's Sawyer's first con!

Scott and Steve said...

You definitely see Michael mark the waitress' arm. I remember because that was the moment I fell out of my chair. The Office has been unstoppable this season. This episode is the best one since The Merger. The scene about The Committee to determine the Validity of the Comittee to Plan Parties was absolutely brilliant.

Dwight has a sea bag!

Anonymous said...

dwight is my favorite office character

- SadAce

Mike Campbell said...

I loved when dwight took Tobby's bag and he asked "why?" I laughed so hard. Or when Angela said "How would you like it if i broke in and took your hello kitty backpack"

I Love that show. Its so funny. Any one been kinda bummed by scrubs this season? i guess there were only two so far but i wanted it to be insanelly funny.

aimee is lost said...

I don't believe the Office would exist without Michael Scott, so I have to rank him up there as a favorite. For personal reasons though, my #1 spot is reserved for Jim Halpert.

Stephanie said...

Uh, just for the record I don't watch Grey's Anatomy.

Mike Campbell said...

I liked how Jim talked about the rebound. It made me happy. Cause i didn't like that other girl. Viva la Jiam

Stephanie said...

Jim is such a nice guy. I expected him to be hurt or bitter toward Pam. But he's not. He's a nice guy and not a wimp.

Anonymous said...

Thanks Jansen, I may check out Dexter...and btw, what's wrong with Grey's Anatomy?

Jim Halpert is my favourite character on The Office. I have a huge crush on John Krasinski... it's borderline obsessive.

Oh ya...and for those of you watching Day Break, did you see the LOST clip featuring Cindy the flight attendant? Jack looked pretty crazy locked in the "sex-cage"

aimee is lost said...

Wow, it looks like the spammers are commenting more than the actual blog members...

been trying to get my lost fix wherever i can. I ended up watching all of the Lost Moments. They're actually pretty good. They don't give away too much and they start some new avenues of speculation.

Lostcasts finally put out a new episode, but it was a little lackluster. They, and the people that commented on their show, seem to be pretty down on the 3rd season. I still don't understand the hate. i don't think there's any way you could please the people that are disappointed.

I went to the Fuselage a little. Those people are nuts. They let their imaginations run away with them. The hottest new theory is that Jack is part of Dharma. The folks that did that "theory cast" have the same problem.

I'm glad the MYOKMw/SAS happy medium still exists

*Internet Rant Whore Warning*

So i have this big paper due for a class i am in. I have been working on it for a few weeks and sending drafts to the professor. He has said i am doing good but i have to focus on the philosophy more. So i try to do that. I had a meeting with about it today with a semi final draft. He reads it and tells me to re-write the whole thing. So i am in college for two more days and i have to re-write the whole paper cause when he said he was reading it he wasn't really reading it. Awesome!

Kim,

Nothing's wrong with Grey's Anatomy. I've been known on occasion to hide in my closet and watch a few episodes.

Be sure and let us know what you think of Dexter. The pilot is really effective in that it presents most of what the show is going to throw at you in the one hour. Then you'll either decide whether you're in for the long run or not.

Stephanie said...

Lost. Lost. Lost? Oh yeah, it's that show we used to watch. I remember now.
I'm sick of people complaining about Lost too, Andrew. Wanna know what else pisses me off? Podcasters who think they are smarter than tv writers.

Jimmy said...

Steph...

Have you seen the latest BSG? That is more like the show of old. It had a real good pace to it last episode.

Would you like to expand on the "Podcasters knowing more than TV writers"? Am interested in what you mean/who you mean?

I have to admit, the whole "Dexter" thing just doesn't see to grab me, even though the premise sounds really clever. I just find (myself) that if you think about serial killing and such it just isn't appealing. And I don't mean the fact that they obviously must "Hollywood'ize" it and make it a little more savory and appealing...but at the core I am just turned off.

Stephanie said...

Jimmy,OMG it was great. I nearly peed in my pants when Apollo kissed Starbuck. The way she seems to be against divorce just seems out of character to me. What do you think?I've started season one on itunes. In fact, watched 4 episodes while waiting early Sun morning in line for a Wii. It's a very heavy show. This may not be the best time of year to watch so many episodes at one time. Kinda effects my mood.
I think a lot of people want to podcast about Lost so they can just bitch. There are two guys with the whiniest voices in the world and I think they are writers. They just talk about what they would do different. That's just one example.
And Dexter, I have no interest in a show that glorifies murder.
Yes, I did get a Wii!!!

Mike Campbell said...

steph you got a Wii!??!?! send over your code and we can send messages to each other, cause this board isn't a place for that :)

Stephanie said...

Mike, it's wrapped. Remind me after Christmas.

I too am just sick to death of the hating and bashing that LOST is taking at the moment. We've had 6 episodes, which is a quarter of a season. People need to think back exclusively to the first six episodes of Season two, and even the first 6 episodes of season one. The pacing was slow (REALLY slow in the case of Season 2), things were being set up, sure, but by the time each Season was over we were satisfied with how those episodes fit into the storyline of the season as a whole, right?

I think it was a mistake for the producers to call Episodes 1-6 a mini-season. The Others storyline is obviously not resolved and Episodes 1-6 is part of the bigger picture on Season 3. But by calling it a mini seasons fans expected a full resolution of the Other storyline, which is what had led to the negative reactions.

-Jansen.

P.S. - Is "Dexter" really glorifying murder? it's one of the questions the show poses. This has been another "Dexter Moment"

Mike Campbell said...

Good Point Jansen. I was kinda bummed they said it was a mini season and it seems they had no plan to finish up the others. or even get them off that second island. if episode 6 ended with a bomb going off on island two as everyone was on a boat to the main island, then something would have been resolved. They should have said "these episodes with be a set up for what happens in 16 straight weeks"

But i enjoyed them. Any lost is good for me.

Stephanie said...

jimmy, scratch that about Starbuck and divorce. I just heard Ron Moore's commentary where he explained that she's religious. I didn't realize that about her. He liked the idea of her moral justification of cheating but not divorce. Strange.

i got rid of all the spam. looks like the dude who came up with this page has not visited in some time. oh well, i guess i can still hope for a christmas miracle.

Anonymous said...

Last day of work for moi. I fucking love the fact that for the next two weeks i get to shoot Germans and monsters, and if i manage to complete Gears of War on the hardest setting? That'll be your Christmas miracle right there Ralph.

P.S. There's this amazing song that i'm listening to, off the The O.C. soundtrack i think, it's by some guy called Joseph Arthur, and i have the first two words of the song: Honey and... what's the rest? I'm fucked if i can find it on the net anywhere..

Anonymous said...

Scratch that, it's Honey And The Moon. You should listen to it, it's been on a loop on my ipod for the last 3 hours, mental.

I've been trying to give in to the hype of BSG. I wanted to watch Battlestar Galactica during this Lost hiatus.
I watched the mini-series but then Netflix has refused to send me disc 1 of season 1. It's been months. Oh well.
any movement on the Dharmalars front? last i heard there was an episode in the can but there was difficulty uploading it.

andrew.

Anonymous said...

Andrew, disc 1 of BSG season 1 is actually the miniseries again, so don't sweat that one... Just have Netflix send disc 2!

Anonymous said...

from what i've read, Netflix really messed up the labeling of their BSG discs. so that:
Netflix / Actual Disc:
Mini-Series = Disc 1
Season 1 Disc 1 = Disc 2
Season 1 Disc 2 = Disc 3
Season 1 Disc 3 = Disc 4
Season 1 Disc 4 = Disc 5

and other people have been waiting months for it too.
oh well. i'm moving on to Carnivale in the mean time.

andrew.

Stephanie said...

Andrew, go order season one from Amazon or something because the miniseries is nothing compared to it. It's awesome.
Carnivale is prety good. We nver missed an episode. Hated the way it ended though. It should have continued.

Jimmy said...

Russel,

Fuck Off!

Those new to BSG take good note of all those posts re the Netflix order. I got screwed up with it as well. But not to worry. The thing to realize is that the show truly just gets better, and better. One of the most character driven shows on TV at present, in my opinion.

I have to admit, of late I've started to prefer it to another popular show we all watch! :(

Stephanie said...

Nooo! Jimmy! Noo! Blasphemy.

Jimmy said...

Well it's been a long day. Maybe my heads in the wrong place.

But maybe not. I don't know?

Mike Campbell said...

Its ok Jimmy Lost doesn't need to be your favorite show. Just a top five. But you have to keep talking to us. A suitemate of mine always talks about how awesome battlestar is. i should really try to watch it.

The show Dexter is probably not for everyone, I think that is safe to say. My sister loves the show, but she is fascinated with crime and why people do what they do. I heard its going to be on at a different time. I like that it will be on at 9pm (central).

BSG seems a little too Sci Fi for my taste but I have heard good things.

I miss Lost. I think when the show starts up again we will start to see some of the pieces start to fit together.

Any ideas on a new post? I could use a new picture to see when I check in...perhaps a Sawyer picture? Haha.

Anonymous said...

Can someone please tell what's so good about BSG? Surely it's just Star Trek with a bit Buck Rogers chucked in?

Jimmy, How's things? Haven't heard from you for a while, and you had some big thing going on last time i heard...

Check this out, jellyman. It’s really a great show. Very dark, heavy, dramatic. I’ve never saw 24, but from what I hear the both are VERY dramatic.. Also, like Lost, some episodes are self-contained and some are continuations. Ron Moore seems to change it up a lot so ya don’t get bored. And it has Lucy Lawless. What more would you want?
