So did anyone get anything in the auction? It was crazy to watch.

I'm pretty ambivalent about the DVDs. I own the first 5 seasons and I suppose I should buy the 6th to complete the set, but unlike most years I have no plans to be at Target as they open tomorrow morning. I definitely do not want to spend $200 to get the "complete" set.

yeah i am getting the sixth season on bluray, but not the box. i cannot wait to see the "epilogue" and the extended Finale.

aimee is lost said...

I'm going to Walmart at midnight to shell out $200 for the blu ray set & $100 for a blu-ray player. Because my life holds no joy but for Lost.

aimee is lost said...

And the box will become the new centerpiece on my coffee table, so I can make love to it with my eyes at my leisure.

Ralph- said...

i may trade up, down the road. i do like that there are dharma symbols on the side. i thought it was entirely Temple themed.

We'll see.

aimee is lost said...

I want all the goodies inside more than the DVDs, since I already have 1-5. But I want to see the bonus footage too (which I know I could find online if I wanted).

aimee is lost said...

I also told myself long ago that I'd upgrade to a blu-ray player when the complete set came out, because Lost is one of the few things worth seeing in HD.

alex said...

Ralph, are you sure that the finale is extended in addition to the epilogue? I remember reading that there was going to be about 15 minutes of new footage, but when they announced the epilogue I assumed that was what they were talking about.

Ralph- said...

i remember reading that the finale would be longer.

I'm not buying this straight away, I'm all LOST-ed out for a good while. I don't think I'm going to watch any more until next year at least.

In other news, LOSTIES!

aimee is lost said...

I don't think I could ever be Lost-ed out. I haven't been this excited since Lost ended. I'm always hesitant to watch it now, because it makes me sad though.

I need to have a child or something.

scrdmnkydst said...

Why don't you just get a new dog? So much less hassle than a baby.

Well... Unless it's my dog...

aimee is lost said...

Babies are more fun to make.

Morgan said...

I'm gonna buy the Season 6 blu-ray @ Best Buy with the exclusive disc & packaging. I can't afford the box yet. Maybe down the road when I get more money... But I also said that about the season 5 Dharma Kit too. :(

Jordan said...

I am with Ralph. The complex series box design sucks. I'd consider getting it at some point. But I really dislike the design. Like Ralph has said previously, the entire design is centered around one of the lamer episodes in the entire series. Some dumb crap from the end of it that in the grand scheme, I would like to put in the back of my Lost consciousness. Also, the shape is stupid. How am I supposed to put that on my shelf? Not only will it take up extra space due to not being able to fit vertically. My OCD doesn't like that it doesn't go with all my other dvd sets. Haha. Maybe I'll get it when they release a simpler package and the price drops $150.

Jordan said...

Holy Freudian slip, Batman! I meant complete series. Not complex. Ha!

aimee is lost said...

I only have so many years left of my youth to spend money on frivolous items such as this.

Jordan said...

Haha, Aimee. That's what I tell myself each night as I buy a 6 pack and a fifth of Jack.

JoeSC said...

I've avoided watching the epilogue until I got the Blu-Ray. Like most, I'm not in much of a rush, though.

My guess is that there's going to be a much better, more comprehensive box set released at a later date, so I'm fine with just getting Season 6 right now and banking that the future holds more goodies.

Aimee - Watching the series on Blu-Ray is like a whole new experience. Almost as fun as "making babies."

Almost forgot about the Lostites! Fucking awesome.

On a completely unrelated note... is anyone else pissed that Fringe Season 2 doesn't come out until the week before Season 3 starts? I really wanted to re-watch Season 2, but I don't think I can cram all that into a week. Still psyched, though! Anyone check out the Fringe panel at Comic-Con? Jen and Ryan put it up on their "Popspotting" feed. Great listen for any fans.

JoeSC said...

...and I totally agree about the actual packaging for the LOST boxed-set.

I'm completely OCD when it comes to needing my DVDs to fit nicely on the shelves and this wouldn't fit nicely anywhere in my house.

That's why I never bought the "special packaging" with the later seasons of The Simpsons. Those plastic head cases looked like total ass on the shelf.

Here's a nice article on just how much the LOST auction brought in.

That's some serious cheddar!

Ralph- said...

All of that money went to Disney. It was not even a charity auction.

PalmerEldritch said...

agreed about novelty dvd containers. meh.

definitely looking forward to more Fringe. good show, that. gunna go subscribe to Popspotting now.

good to see people show up when we get a new thread. especially when they talk about making babies. ga-row!

looking forward to my season six blu-rays. want to check out all the extras. and rewatch sometime. but not yet. too soon. i still haven't deleted the finale off my DVR. *sniff sniff*

Stephanie said...

Did I read that there's a secret compartment on the DVD set?

I'm waiting for the price of the blu rays to come down a bit. Gotta save for SDCC 2011.

JoeSC said...

Yeah Ralph, I probably would have been more likely to at least bid on a couple of things if I knew it was for charity. I couldn't really justify spending any big bucks knowing it was just gonna fill Disney's coffers.

Palmer - I'll do you one better. I still have all of Season 6 on my DVR (except "What Kate Did" and "Across the Sea"). I kept telling myself that I was going to re-watch them one last time on TV before the DVD came out, but I never got around to it.

I'm still gonna hold onto them until I actually buy Season 6, though.

PalmerEldritch said...

totally read that as "I still have all 6 Seasons on my DVR" at quick glance. my eyes bugged out of my head.

JoeSC said...

I was committed... but not THAT committed!

aimee is lost said...

I'm very OCD when it comes to my DVDs and books too, but until I make some babies, or develop another chronic case of fanaticism over something else, I'm happy to blow money on the box set, and whatever other box set they come up with in the future. What can I say, I'm a sucker.

Comic books are making their way into my universe. So I may have to budget a SDCC trip too.

Ralph- said...

THAT'S WHAT SHE SAID OVERLOAD!!!

Stephanie said...

Happy Halloween!

aimee is lost said...

Lol Ralph....

Going through the deleted scenes, some are lame and useless, but some are cramazeballtastic.

Desmond and Sawyer in HD on my big screen. Is it wrong to dry-hump my television. Screw it, I don't wanna be right.

Epilogue: awesome, but too short (twss).

Going to try to figure out some of the DVD tricks from the hidden message found inside the ankh. 38 discs, so it's gonna take some time.

New boytoy coming over tonight to test drive my bluray. Any suggestions as to which episode to show him???

scrdmnkydst said...

Extreme XXX Asian Babes.

JoeSC said...

So I broke down and bought Season 6 on the way home from work after all.

Aimee - Totally agree with you on the epilogue. I thought I would be disappointed, but I really enjoyed it. Definitely too short.

One of my favorite episodes on Blu-Ray is "The Shape of Things to Come." I just love the way it's shot and think it shows off the Blu-Ray well.

Actually, any episode with a big Smoke Monster scene would do...

So does the ankh just have a big piece of paper with the easter eggs on every disc? Not a bad idea... I hate having to look them up on Lostpedia every time.

Morgan said...

I thought it was weird on one of the featurettes they refer to "Maternity Leave" as "Maternity Matters." Dunno how they let one get by.

PalmerEldritch said...

jen from the transmission made reference to finding "the secret disc" in relation to LOST. huh?? what she talking about, blogspot?

Ralph- said...

I got my Bluray set for season six yesterday and only found one easter egg. I dont know how i found it, i just put in the second disc and started to go to town on my direction pad until that little dot went up to the top right corner of the menu.

There was a short behind the scenes scene where Terry O'Quinn, Nestor Carbonal and Michael Emerson are sitting around and Terry is talking about how he believes the Smoke Monster forms from his body. It is very entertaining.

What is NOT entertaining is that for the final season bluray, they decided to change the format in which it is presented. A slim case? That is dumb.

PalmerEldritch said...

giant nerds on the internets routinely make downloadable DVD covers for problems such as yours. that way you can grab a case like the first five seasons and then print out the nerd-made cover and it'll look the same throughout.

i just cant find any examples yet.

PalmerEldritch said...

something like this site will prolly have one in a few weeks.

Ralph- said...

Thanks. I will be watching closely.

I do like that the set has a spoiler warning on the commentaries.

PalmerEldritch said...

i hope the spoiler warning is an annoying sound like a foghorn or R2D2 beeping.

Ralph- said...

they dont really spoil anything in the commentary for LA X. Also, the weird thing is that they only do the first half of the episode. They do not do part 2.

PalmerEldritch said...

lame-blamo!

JoeSC said...

For those of us that didn't pick up the complete boxed set, This guy does a pretty good unboxing.

Unknown said...

Palmer,

If you buy the blu-ray set at Best Buy, they include an extra disc (DVD not blu-ray) with more extra content. I haven't gotten into it yet, but the back lists two "Lost on Location" videos, "Chicken Heaven" where Jorge goes behind the scenes of Mr. Clucks, "Sayid vs Dogen" which the description only states that they fight hand to hand, "and much more". Maybe this is what Jen meant for a secret disc.

JoeSC said...

Yeah Brennan, I think you're right. I completely forgot about the bonus disc until you mentioned it.

Ralph- said...

Stevi discussed trading in our 6 individual boxes for the box set. She also thinks it looks lame with the slim case. Which, for Stevi, is crazy. She doesn't ever obsess about that sort of thing like i do.

Chris JC said...

Now may be time for me to buy season 5 in lovely, fluffy standard definition and super high speed "squeaky voice" PAL transfer.

Also: hello!

Stephanie said...

So, "unboxing" is a thing?

Kelly Jo said...

I've got college to help pay for so no S6 or series DVD set for me :(

Jordan said...

Yes, Steph. Unboxing is a thing. Search for it on youtube. Pretty funny for the most part. I've found it useful for certain items you might be interested in purchasing. Like electronics or something involved. But people unbox the stupidest crap. Like dvd's or Justin Bieber dolls.

Ralph- said...

i saw this great unboxing of the Dollhouse Bluray Comic Con exclusive!

Jordan said...

You mean THIS GUY, Ralph?

Kelly Jo said...

Unrelated to this but look Hugo Does the Dreamworks Face! http://bit.ly/dniMw4

JoeSC said...

Thanks for the link Jordan. That was incredibly funny yet totally anticlimactic! I love guys who take that stuff way too seriously!

Ralph- said...

Jordan. yep.

Jordan said...

I love that the guy refers to his youtube viewers as 'Razmanites'.

My friend at work is currently up to seasons 4 of both Lost and Dexter. Earlier this week he made a comment about Mark Pellegrino and how he didn't trust any character he plays due to his role on Dexter. I really wanted to tell him to wait a season and a half for Lost, but I want to keep the spoilers to a minimum. I did actually spoil who exactly makes up the Oceanic 6.

memphish said...

I too always distrusted Jacob because of the Dexter role. And then ultimately because he killed 200+ people on Flight 815 alone in order to a) prove a point and b) find a replacement for himself. Yes, color me on Jack's side of this Jay and Jack argument. Where was Dexter Morgan when you needed him in Roman times?

Holli

PalmerEldritch said...

not sure about Dexter but i know where Harry Morgan was: fighting Shao Kahn!

also, they really named Dexter's adoptive dad after the dude from MASH?

andrew. said...

is it okay to talk about the epilogue now?
*Spoilers*
*Spoilers*
*Spoilers*
i totally thought that the DHARMA van was going pull a Back To The Future at the end there. It seemed really appropriate that geek Hurley would adopt that as the new form of travel to & from the island.

alex said...

Maybe it's just me, but I think season 6 has aged pretty well. I have rewatched through The Substitute and I am liking it a lot more than the 2nd time through season 5.

Here's a quick theory that I thought of while re-watching LA X: in the sideways, I think Rose and Bernard were "awakened" on Oceanic 815. Rose tells Bernard "I missed you" just like Kate tells Jack in the finale. And back when the episode aired didn't everyone think that they were a little PDA crazy? Well, maybe now we why... They just remembered their old lives. And this could also explain why Bernard seemed to know way too much when Jack visited him in his office. To top it off one of the first things Rose says to Jack is "You can let go now"... The same exact thing Christian tells Jack

In the grand scheme of things, this theory doesn't really matter to the story, but if true, these are some pretty cool clues about what the flash sideways really were.

Is anybody going to check out the Emmy's tonight? I hoping that Lost wins one or more of the major categories, but I have my doubts that a sci-fi kind of show will get much recognition. I know these award shows are fairly stupid and sometime arbitrary with who wins, but I'm still going to watch.

Chris JC said...

Mark Pellegrino was in an episode of The X Files too, but don't worry - he got murdered with a baseball bat by a ravenous creature disguised as a human before he could do much damage.

PalmerEldritch said...

good catch, alex. i like that theory.

not sure if i'll watch the emmys. but i'm hoping LOST cleans up. that'd be cool. think they;ll do fairly well. or be snubbed in favor or cable. one of the two.

chris, thank goodness for that ravenous creature.

JoeSC said...

Anyone catch the opening number from the Emmys?

Fantastic! And the addition of Joel McHale and Jorge Garcia was just awesome.

alex said...

Boo-urns.

Stephanie said...

The very first episode of Dexter hooked me. Fascinating is all I can say.
We're also still watching The Wire week to week.
Morgan and I are slowly watching My So-Called Life.
We're watching Freaks and Geeks on IFC.
I dread Fall tv starting. I won't have time for these extras.
The Emmys were hilarious last night. Great show. Seeing Jorge on my screen made me pretty emotional. I miss Lost.

PalmerEldritch said...

dont forget to vote for the LOSTies. btw, i have to vote for the LOSTies sometime.

andrew. said...

when are the Losties due?
i want to participate but season 6 is a complete haze. something about Bachman Turner Overdrive playing a fundraiser to get the ghost of Jack's kid to the island to play a backgammon tournament.

PalmerEldritch said...

yeah, when are the LOSTies due? and what are the categories again?

andrew. said...
