Lame discussions and poorly constructed theories about the hit ABC series "Lost."

Rock Riddle of "hollywoodsuccess.com?"sure. ...why not?steph, where did you go for food? check out fred's? i love me some fred's. and dick's. uh... dick's last resort.and since i didnt notice anything weird about southern californian food (except that guacamole is available everywhere, bonus!), i imagine that we northerners dont make our food like you do either? although, i mostly ate at fast food places and sandwich shops.anyone eaten at a Red, Hot, And Blue? there's one in Herndon, VA that's pretty darn tasty.
Here is my interview with Scott Thompson of Kids in The Hall: Part 1 Part 2
Great job, Alirio. p, I don't eat fast food much. I cook. Everyday. I cook meals. That's what I'm used to. We ate at Fred's. I didn't care for it at all. I was so glad to get back home. Turnip greens and pinto beans from the hospital cafeteria. Yum. Yum.
the 12 minute LOST epilogue is (temporarily) on youtube.havent watched it yet but i'm darned tempted to.turnip greens? wtf? yeah, you eat differently. :p
So....I'm done being the spoiler guy, but is watching the epilogue before I buy the DVDs considered spoiling myself? Especially when I AM going to buy them?I did just watch the epilogue HEREI imagine many won't agree (when do Lost fans ever agree) but I thought it was great.
I watched it. Youtube pulled it, but you can find it.It was OK, but it just leaves you wanting more, and that is the biggest downfall to this TV show. No matter what, it was created to make you want more. More story lines, more character development, more mythology, and yes. . . more answers.I also had pinto beans and turnip greens last Friday at Cracker Barrel. Awesome.
I watched it. I liked it... Enough said. Not particularly mind blowing and I never really needed more answers, but it had a couple of moments that made me smile and realize how much I am really going to miss the show
ah LOST spoilers. weird having them back. i'm tempted to talk about the epilogue but i don't want to ruin it for anybody.I'm planning on buying the set, but because of my disappointment with season 6 as a whole, i'm not going to pre-order it like i did for every other season.I don't know why people who go to California don't just eat burritos for every meal.
"I don't know why people who go to California don't just eat burritos for every meal."In-n-Out burger.
To be honest with you, Fred's isn't THAT great as far as Mexican food goes in Southern California. I love Fred's and it is good, but you guys should try grabbing some Burritos in Old Town. That is what i'm talking about!!Comic Con didn't feel the same without Kirk and Laurie there, with Cactus Coolers in hand, but i had a blast. It was great meeting Steph, who told me i was way more "Californian" in person. Nobody had ever told me that before and i took it as a compliment. I have lived here my whole life and i love it to death!!It was great meeting Kelly as well. Unfortunately i don;t think i saved her dad's phone number in my phone. She can relax knowing that i am not going to call him and tell him that i am going to kidnap his daughter. comic con was great. i posted all my thoughts on the festivities at my blog. Good to see Rock Riddle is back!!
The burrito from the Zoo was better than Fred's. Jay and Jack sound very "Californian" too, ralph-. I don't hear it on the podcasts. Funny.
That is so strange. Maybe it is because we were all wearing shorts and t-shirts, or maybe it was my tan. I have no idea, but it makes sense that i would be considered californian. I love it!!
Learn wisdom by the follies of others.............................................................
I'm a lot more London in real life, you SLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGS!
One day I'm going to find out exactly how you sound in real life, Chris, when I come stay on your couch or floor.
Or when I drop in on my way to invade Louisiana.
why does my post keep disappearing?
Does everybody know of the music making band Weezer? Well, they've gone ahead and named their album Hurley. Also, they revealed their new album artwork, which, coincidentally, is a big picture of Jorge Garcia. HURRAH.
yeah, i posted this here twice with a link, but for some reason it kept deleting. The weird thing also is that my post about it on my blog keeps disappearing and reappearing.weird.
its the magic of the Island. also, jorge has your passwords.
Steph, By 'Californian', do you mean 'not-Southern'? I wonder if it's more of a west coast thing. Do I sound Californian? Good god, I hope not. :P
I'm not sure if ralph-, Jay and Jack sound Californian or West Coast. I have spoken to non-Southerners before in my life. It's not that. They sound plain on the podcasts but there is something different on the end of their words irl. I haven't spoken to any other West Coasters irl that I know of.
Stephanie I just had this conversation today with some of my co-workers. I moved to Mass. about 3 years ago, and I'm constantly being told I sound Californian. They say I say my R's and L's very distinctly and my vowels are short and not drawn out. Even strangers on the phone ask if I'm Californian.WeiRd...
I was under the impression that i talked the same way on the podcast.
Speaking of regional accents. I'm in the process of trying to plan a trip to New Orleans this fall. Steph, Holli, and anyone else in the South. Do you guys have any other suggestions of cities in the South that are worth visiting? I'm not quite sure how long I can take off. Might just have time for NO. But if I have the time and $ to explore a bit more of the South, what's worth it?
Not really, Jordan. Nashville's nice. It's quite a long way from NO though.
What about from the perspective of a snooty west coaster who wants to explore America's Land Before Time? Even if nothing is all that exciting, what cities would pass for at least having things to see for a couple hours? And I'm talking the whole South. Not just near NO. If I was able to take a couple weeks off, I'd take a couple train rides. Holli, any ideas?Back to the San Diego food topic real quick. Steph, did you not get any fish tacos from Rubios? That place is awesome. I went there on Holli's recommendation, multiple times, and it was fantastic.Oh, and this:Study says that iPhone users have more sex
jordan, that's cuz iPhone users keep getting fucked by AT&T.
Rubios??That is a fast food chain!! I am sure there is better fish taco in san diego.
Ugh! Fish tacos. There can't be more disgusting sounding phrase in the English language.
iPhone owners are sluts.:)
Fish tacos are awesome, Steph! You're missing out. And Rubios might be a chain. But it's dang good. And fwiw, it's a sorta "healthier" chain. Not really 'fast food' like Taco Bell or anything nasty like that.
Oh Jordan. I forgot to give you my The Wire update. The first couple of episodes, I didn't know what was going on. All of a sudden- Boom! Avon Barksdale! They don't even know what color he is. I'm hooked.
WOO HOO!!! AWESOME!!!That's the big hurdle. The show starts out very fast and doesn't really introduce the viewer to the world or characters in standard tv fashion. So it takes a few episodes for most people to figure things out. To figure out what type of show they're watching and the language/pace/format the show operates in. But once you're in, if you do get in, you're hooked. There is a lot of hyperbole that surrounds the show. But it really is that good.
Is it bad that whenever someone mentioned "Fish Tacos" that I immediately thought you were talking in euphemisms, and not about the actual food stuffs?
What up everyone! Sorry I haven't been around for awhile, but I just got done traveling nonstop for work for the last 6 weeks.Haven't watched the epilogue, but I'll try and make some time for it later today. I've been dying to see it.Haven't been a huge fan of Weezer's last couple of albums, but that f'n awesome news.Jordan - I'm in Charleston, SC, and if you want to see southern history at it's finest, you must spend a couple of days here. Voted most polite city in America for the last 10+ years and you have tons of stuff from museums to plantations to old south carriage tours to Revolutionary and Civil War battle sites and some of the most amazing regional cuisine in the country. You're also not far from the vacation hotbeds of Hilton Head and Myrtle Beach.
As far as some other cities, I'd also recommend Savannah, GA and Nashville. Both really beautiful, really southern and really fun.
...and Atlanta. Atlanta can be hit and miss, but there are a few really nice places to check out there. Everyone needs to see Stone Mountain (and the accompanying light show) at least once.
Jordan, check out this formspring question I got. How'd I do on the answer? "You sold me on Buffy. Now try to sell me on The Wire. What makes it so good? Quite frankly, I am sick of hearing people talk about how great it is. I think they just want to sound smart.""The show is shining a light on what's wrong with America, how the police's hands are tied, how stopping crime is an impossible task. It's a cynical show but I think is very important. It doesn't set out to entertain but to enlighten."I watched the epilogue. Great back-peddling.
Who's Rock Riddle?
Pretty good, Steph. Although I would've taken a shot at the guy for the 'wanting to sound smart' comment. But I would say that while the show definitely strives to inform first and foremost. It is far from strictly an infomercial on what is wrong with this country. I do think it is highly entertaining. Some of the most compelling character drama I've ever witnessed. As well as some great cops and robbers stuff. But given you're only midway or so through season one, I can't really expect you to have really experienced all that yet. But good job!And thanks for the recommendations, Joe. I was actually reading up on Charleston just last night in this book I have, '1,000 Places to See Before You Die'. Also saw some stuff on Savannah. Here's what I'm thinking currently. Still not positive how much time I can finagle off from work. But what I have in mind right now is to fly into Charlotte, where I know some people. Then to either bus or train it down through, SC, GA, AL, MS, all the way to New Orleans. And then fly back from there. I'm a sucker for exploring places I'm unfamiliar with. And the deep South is about as foreign to me as anywhere in the US. Still unsure if I will be able to pull it off in the time and price range I'll end up having. But it's a fun thought to me at least.
You're going to visit Birmingham, aren't you Jordan? I'll take you to the Civil Rights Museum (a first for me too) and to see Vulcan's can.
And we have to find a pretentious movie to see, Jordan.
Rock Riddle is the squasher of threads with too many comments.
Steph, Birmingham seems to be along the way. So why not?! Like I said before, it all comes down to how much time I can get off. As of now, it looks like I can get at least 9 days. I'd like to have a few more, so as to not be rushing too much. But we'll see. I've been looking into the cost of buses and trains, and it seems to be fairly reasonable for the most part. I guess the last thing would be to see what kind of cheap accomodations I can find. I'm guessing there's not a ton of hostels in some of the cities.
People here have never even heard of a hostel. We do however have some cheap crack motels.
tomorrow is the Bacon Bash here in Pittsburgh. sorry i didn't give yinz an advanced warning, i just found out myself. The bash includes a bacon eating contest, and a chance to eat crazy bacon concoctions like bacon cupcakes, bacon sushi, bacon shot glasses filled with cheesy mashed potatoes? ... To celebrate, i think i'm going to fast. Here's the details
How DARE you!
Woman goes crazy over not getting her chicken nuggets!
anyone check out io9.com's LOST articles yet?http://io9.com/5614330/new-dvd-extras-reveal-why-losts-showrunner-thought-it-might-be-too-cheesyhttp://io9.com/5608577/seriously-what-was-with-the-hieroglyphicshavent had a chance to check them out. but they seemed like something i should maybe share!
Hopefully the DVD release will clean up all of those cobwebs and tumbleweed that have been around here lately. In other news, did you all see the season 6 soundtrack info was released? 2.5 Hours! 2 Discs! Hooray!
So the Lost auction starts in a few hours. Anyone bidding? I might bid on a few things, but I have no expectations of actually winning anything.
i was invited to go, but had previous plans. i heard it is badass there. I wish i could have gone.
Subtlety is better than force. ......................................................................
hey, blogspot. what's up? DVDs are out... tuesday is it? gotta pick up those blu-rays!did we get official confirmation on whether the 12 minute endcap will be on the regular release or just the Series Boxset?
Wish I could have bid on some stuff at the LOST auction this weekend, bu with a kid on the way in 2 months, that's a little out of my price range right now. I'm banking on the fact that a lot of this stuff will probably end up on Ebay at some point, though.Palmer - The epilogue is going to be on both the Season 6 DVD and the boxed set. I was excited when I heard that because there was no way in hell I was buying the boxed set when I already have Seasons 1 - 5 on Blu-Ray. I am gonna be interested to see what other extras are on there, though. I haven't read any of the previews for the Season 6 DVD yet.On a somewhat related note...Josh Holloway to star in the Rockford Files remake?Awesome!
I was following the auction at home and I wanted to bid on the list of Charlie's Greatest Hits. I was willing to go as high as $1,200.00 knowing full well that this would not be enough. The bidding opened at $2,000.00 and ended at $3,750.00 so I was out before I began. It'd be cool to have something from the show, but not for that much. Can't wait for Tuesday.
Yeah, I'll be interested to see what some of these items actually ended up going for. The ones that I really wanted (Eko's Jesus Stick, Desmond & Penny's picture, Faraday's Journal, etc.) are sure to be some of the most expensive...
Oh, and for those of you that may play Rock Band, they made "You All Everybody" available for download for just $0.99.Good times!
Some of the items I recall:Pilot script signed by JJ Abrams and Damon - $15,000.00Hurley's Camero - $20,000.00Frozen Donkey Wheel - $25,000.00The Des and Penny pic went high, but I don't remember exactly. There was a bidding war for the Charlie costume (Dark hoodie, two tone grey striped shirt and flare leg jeans from early season 1).All the passports, customs forms and driver's licenses went higher than I expected. I guess it's have the character name and picture on one item. The "cheapest" thing I saw was Rose's costume from season two for $375.00. Everything else is $1,000.00+.
joe, congrats on the impending childbirth! make sure to give the baby a name or they'll grow to be a smoke monster.i can afford $0.99 so i'll have to pick up You All Everybody. definitely more affordable than 3 to 15 thousand dollars for an auction item. yeesh.
I can see why the passports would go for a decent chunk of change. That's something pretty cool that also is actually reasonable to own. Where exactly are you going to put that frozen donkey wheel that you just spent $25k on?!!! Seriously, who even wants that?
obviously, you put it in your freezer.
Well I've got all of Rose's costumes, but not enough Real Dolls to wear them all. Don't I feel silly.
check craigslist; you might be able to pick up some cheap ones used.
I really wish you guys didn't start talking about the auction on here. I decided to check it out, and I've been hooked like a dumb ass watching it for the last couple hours. Fascinating to watch somebody spend over a grand on a New Kids lunch box. Hahaha.
everybody on twitter is watching it too. wtf?and how does little old me find a video feed or something? ;)
Not a video feed. But you can follow it here:http://www.liveauctioneers.com/bidapplet22212
Jordan,I saw your post about going to New Orleans. My mom and stepdad have lived there for about 7 years. If you need suggestions about places to go I can probably give you a few.
Was Eko's Jesus stick up for auction? I wonder how much that went for?
