I will post some blogs each day and there will be pictures on myspace, but i wont be podcasting. I am pretty glad that i dont have work responsibilities as well as podcasting responsibilities. It will be a great vacation!

If you haven't gone, i HIGHLY recommend you do it at least once. You have no idea how fun it is. Words can't express the insanity.

HOLY COW, i am out of it.

I will be posting pics to my FACEBOOK account.

I saw this commercial today O.O I have no words to describe it with out ruining it http://youtu.be/wfPYeIB0jZw

Kelly Jo, when it comes to vanity, people will literally buy anything. Maybe I shouldn't say "people". Maybe it's just Americans.

Morgan and I are going. She's cosplaying Sailor Pluto. We've got the staff and the whole nine yards. Hopefully the wig will make it here from China before we leave.
I'm excited to see the Joss Whedon/JJ Abrams panel on Thursday and then a Joss Whedon panel on Friday, the Walking Dead panel and Let Me In. I'm overwhelmed already. Ahhh!! And excited.

Stephanie said...

Here's my schedule.

memphish said...

Looks good Steph. Has anyone looked at the overall schedule? What's the one or two big things that people will line up over this year?

I'll be gong for the third year in a row. This year though, it'll be me, my almost-wife Christine and our 2 kids. Nicolas will turn 4 on the 21st and Isabelle will be 1 a few days after we return.

I'm looking forward to a few things at the Con, but mostly seeing my son's reaction to the exhibit hall, cos-players, and the crowds.

Christine and I will be recording lots of Pausecast content and uploading as regularly as free hotel/conference center WiFi allow.

memphish said...

What's cos and cos-playing?

Holli
/a less-informed nerd/geek

PalmerEldritch said...

cos-play is "costume play."

it's fancy talk for dressing up. cos-play is a double edged sword.

there's good cos-play where the costumes are awesome. there's normal cos-play where the costumes are pretty good. there's bad cos-play where the costumes are awful. and then there's really good cos-play where the people are really attractive and wear skimpy clothes. and really bad cos-play where the people are not at all attractive and wear skimpy clothes. the majority of cos-play at comic-con fall between normal and really bad. :p

Stephanie said...

Morgan is going to look awesome. That is, if she can stand to walk around all day in the boots.

PalmerEldritch said...

there was a really good 10th Doctor one year. with a dalek.

and a really good giant zombie thing from Left 4 Dead.

havent seen them at Comic-Con, but these Dalek costumes are the best ever.

and let's not forgot Stuart! my favorite Hurley cosplayer. really nice guy too. watching him get that Dharma Ranch Composite was fantastic. a Comic-Con highlight.

PalmerEldritch said...

btw, kelly jo, that's a great commercial.

reminds me a bit of this one that you can't click on until you're 18. I Need a [Device to Help Open Jars]. NSFW but no actual nudity or anything.

won't be attending Comicon. i hope to make the pilgrimage one year, maybe when Lost: the Vampire Lawyer Chronicles has their panel.
Hope everyone going has a blast.

Stephanie said...

I'm vampired out.

Inception- if you can deal with the premise, you'll enjoy it.

Jordan said...

That guy is starting to get a bit repetitive.

Wish I was going to comic con. I want to some day. I really hope it doesn't move to Anaheim, as SD is much cooler a vacation destination.

Have fun guys!

PalmerEldritch said...

slight spoilers for those additional 12 minutes of LOST. very slight.

Jordan said...

Anyone see Inception yet? I saw it last night. Quite the rollercoaster ride of the mind.

Jordan said...

To clarify, it's not all that mind-bending or anything. It's no Memento. But instead a big action set piece placed within the mind. Still quite liked it. A LOT to take in though. Tons going on at once.

alex said...

Yeah I saw Inception tonight and I think I am one of the few who wasn't blow away by it. I think I went in expecting Memento like twists, and they really weren't there. I did like the ending a lot, and I thought Ellen Page did a good job.

Stephanie said...

I'm starting to hate Ellen Page. Unlike everyone else I loved Joseph Gordon Levitt in it. But I think I must be biased on him.

Kelly Jo said...

Steph your not alone in the Joseph Gordon Levitt love he plays a great straight man. I was meh on Ellen Page in this movie. Overall though I loved it.

Jordan said...

Ellen Page is slowly becoming the female Michael Cera, in that she plays the same role (pretty much herself) in everything. That and I can't really stand her voice. I thought she was decent in this movie. But she wasn't by any means great. Her character was a walking, talking expositional mouthpiece for the audience.

I didn't mind Gordon-Levitt. He played a straight character. So what? What were people expecting?

As for the movie itself. I had a ton of fun and really liked it. But I think a lot of people had too high of expectations for it. Main reason being that movies this summer (and this year for the most part) have totally sucked. Everyone was expecting this to be the biggest, most amazing thing ever. Especially after the awesome, but over-hyped Dark Knight. And the sea of crap that has been movies this summer elevated them a lot more. As with expecting from anything, if you do so, your experience and impressions will suffer. And this is no different. It's not a 10 out of 10 or A+++ or anything. But it's the best I've seen this year so far.

VAGUELY-SPOILERISH COMMENT. SKIP AHEAD IF YOU ARE AFRAID OF SUCH THINGS!!!

My only really gripe with the film itself was the final snow level scene. It went on a bit too long IMO. And not just that, I couldn't really tell what was going on. Everyone was dressed the same and you couldn't tell who was fighting who. Or for that matter, what exactly they were trying to accomplish. It was fun and exciting. But I would have rather it been handled a bit differently.

Stephanie said...

Yep, Jordan. I mentally checked out during the snow scene. But I friggin love Tom Hardy. So I'll watch him run around in the snow forever.

alex said...

I don't think Ellen Page has reached a Michael Cera level of repetition yet. I mean she always plays likable characters, but for me, this role was far enough away from Juno that I didn't have a problem with it

Some more vague spoilers:

The one part I didn't buy was the concept of limbo. They spent so much time during the first half of the movie setting up the rules of dreams. And then halfway through it seems like they gave a quick explanation of a concept that was so important for the rest of the movie.

That being said, it is easily the most creative movie of the summer and I did enjoy it, but I think I set myself up for some disappointment. I also think that it will improve on a second viewing.

PalmerEldritch said...

teaser trailer for Maggie Grace's new movie.

clicky clicky :p

yeah, ok. it's just Dwayne Johnson going around looking angry. but one of our LOSTies is in it.

Stephanie said...

Oh good. Dwayne Johnson has made his millions with family movies and is being badass again.

Alex, the sudden changing of the rules mid-stream bothered me too but I see the need to upping the ante.

Just for fun, some NSFW Tom Hardy.

PalmerEldritch said...

i know you're crazy about Tom Hardy but I've only seen him (that I can remember) in the uber shitty Star Trek movie, Nemesis. Ugh.

Stephanie said...

Palmer, Bronson is on Netflix watch instant now. His performance is a force of nature. And then he's in Wurthering Heights which I didn't enjoy as much.

Jordan said...

The concept of limbo, or a better term I think, dream coma, was absolutely needed. Without it, there were zero stakes besides Leo not getting to see his kids. That is not enough for a movie of that scope. I didn't have a problem with how it was used. They weren't dealing with situations that had it as a consequence early on. Now if this was a tv series like LOST, and it was introduced in season 7. Yeah, I would be a tad annoyed.

Stephanie said...

Neat to hear you're giving The Wire a shot, Steph. I worry though. Cuz it's not a fast hook. Usually takes people midway through the first season to get sucked in. And doing so one ep a week might test your patience. It's no Buffy. :P Hope it doesn't though.

How's Comic Con, guys?

Jordan said...

...........

PalmerEldritch said...

yeah, we need comic con updates.

what's up, internetica? any LOST news?

alex said...

Hey guys, I wish I posted here more often when Lost was on so I knew you all better, but I'm at comic con so I thought I'd give you an update... And it has been great so far. It is my first time here so I have spent a lot of time just taking it all in. But yesterday I went to the Michael Giacchino panel and managed to get his autograph and a picture with him which was basically my con holy grail. The panel itself was great... Giacchino told a story about meeting with Speilberg when he was just starting.

Today I went to the Hawaii 5.0 panel to see DDK, and he actually talked about Lost a fair bit. first he gave some generic comments about how great the finale was. He also said his favorite scene to film was the raft launching.

I also managed to get into the Super panel (I had never heard of the movie before but it had Rainn Wilson and Nathon Fillion so I gave it a shot). Anyways, Rainn Wilson went off on a tangent about how the creator of Bacon salt was now rich and I immediately thought of this blog

PalmerEldritch said...

alex, how do you like the costumes and weirdos? and the convention floor is F'N GIGANTIC, eh? they'll put cars and stuff on display and you can walk around for four days and miss them. awesome stuff.

how are the lines? been lined up outside the building yet?

alex said...

Yeah the exhibit hall is crazy... Today I saw one of those huge mechs from Avatar and realized that I had walked past it about 3 times yesterday without even knowing it.

It actually hasn't been as crowded as I thought it would be. The exhibit hall is always pretty packed, but you can still move around. Yesterday I didn't bother with Hall H or any of the bigger rooms so I didn't have many lines. And today I was actually able to walk right into Hall H because it was no line once the Hawaii 5.0 panel got out (thats why I ended up at the Super panel).

I don't understand the way they organize their panels though. Today there were like 2 panels that I wanted to go to and tomorrow there are probably 10 and Sunday has almost nothing... oh well, I guess I can't complain.

Jordan said...

I hope all of our Comic Con goers have had a great SAFE time in SD. Just read this. YIKES!

"Witnesses reported that some time following this evening's Resident Evil: Afterlife presentation, two men were involved in a scuffle over seating. One allegedly stabbed the other in the eye with a pen. The victim was taken from the hall on a stretcher, while his attacker was led from the scene in handcuffs by convention security. The room was sealed off during an investigation, delaying a few panels. By all accounts, the hall has since reopened and regular activities have been resumed."

Jordan said...

And feel free to post here as much as you like, Alex. We were all new once. And even though Lost isn't happening anymore. A couple of us are still hanging round. The more, the merrier!

kelly, which panels did you go to? what made them awesome? i'm living vicariously through such as you.

Jordan said...

Yeah, I want details.

So how's everyone holding up. Have your guys feet recovered yet?

Kelly Jo said...

I went to the Chuck, EW's women who kick ass, True Blood (for pride reasons), The Walking Dead, Hawaii 5-0, and the Jay and Jack, Community, Attack of the show, and the worst placed panel ever that was all about art direction. We all felt so bad for them because they clearly were just there to try and clear room in between the Community and Attack of the Show panel. My favorite panels were Chuck and The Walking Dead. That show is going to be awesome. Overall I loved Comic Con.

Oh and my feet have pretty much recovered thanks for asking :)

Mark my words blogspotters. I will be there next year. I have 2 more days left here in Richmond before graduation from APS. After that it's smooth sailing for me for the rest of the year. I've only seen a handful of pics because the internet access sucks here. I can't wait to get home and see the whole collection,, oh yeah, and my family.

Catch you all in a couple of days.

I'm never taking a red eye flight ever again. The human body is not meant to sleep sitting up. Other than that- Son of a bitch Comic Con was amazing! If you are nerd enough to post here, Comic Con would be like going to Disney World. Go. Go next year. I don't know which is better- the con or meeting everyone. Hanging out with these internet friends was so wonderful. We all have so much in common. So much, too much to talk about. You also meet strangers at the con. Nerds are so friendly and so helpful. I wouldn't have gotten to see the Bones, The Joss Whedon Experience, or True Blood if it weren't for Nerd help. There's a system. You learn it. And learn to work the system. Friends help.
Meeting Dylan and ralph- was a huge thrill. I also met Bear McCreary (I have a long story if you're interested), Damian Holbrook from TV Guide magazine, Mark Sheppard, Amber Benson, and Jane Espenson. I also snapped pictures of neat actors and writers. See my facebook for pictures.
In short, save up. Go next year.
Also...
In and Out Burger is delicious and the zoo is pretty cool as well. We saw pandas!

Stephanie said...

I forgot to talk about the panels I attended. The RED panel was bad was bad. The only questions asked by the audience and by the moderator were "what was it like" questions. It was nice seeing the elegant Helen Mirren and Bruce Willis though.
The JJ Abrams and Joss Whedon panel was excellent. We ask great questions. We being JJ and Joss fans.
Thanks to Alirio and a couple of really nice nerds Morgan and I got into Bones and The Joss Whedon Experience. I stayed for the boring kick ass women panel. I was disappointed by the True Blood panel. I assumed the fans would be crazy bananas. I thought Nelsan Ellis would put on a good show... Not so much.
I stood in line for 4 hours one day to get The Vampire Diaries autographs. Turns out Warner Brothers didn't take the people in the line. They took everyone else. We promptly tweeted (when we finally found wifi) WB and were promised swag to make up for it.
Like I said check out my pictures on facebook.

Stephanie said...

Oh! I forgot about the Hawaii 5-0 panel. DDK was great. I always enjoy hearing him speak.
Probably the best panel you'll ever see is the Walking Dead. This show is going to be outstanding. AMC has got it going on. Except for Rubicon.

PalmerEldritch said...

was Sarah Wayne Callies super boring at the Walking Dead panel? she was super boring (sorry, sarah wayne callies) at the Prison Break panel i went to one year. :(

THOR TRAILER!!

alex said...

I don't know if anyone else here went to the Lost Encyclopedia panel, but I did and I thought it was BAD. The special guests were the actor who played Young Ben (which was sort of cool) and some guy in a polar bear costume... Oh well, Comic Con was still awesome even though the Lost content was pretty weak.

Also, did anyone else see the actress who played Nadia in the autograph area? I had no idea that she was going to be there and just randomly walked by her booth and got her autograph which was a nice surprise.

Stephanie said...

Nadia was at the Media Junkyard/Jay and Jack/10th Wonder party. I didn't bother speaking. I also saw her at the autograph area. I didn't bother walking by.
Oh!! I passed Nathan Fillion on the street. I was too star-struck to speak. What a regret.

Jimmy Kimmel Lost DVD unboxing that Kim was talking about

Jordan said...

I was surprised at first that Kim was so fast to the Kimmel news. Then I realized that it was a Matthew Fox appearance. ;)

And am I the only person who HATES the complete dvd set box? Seriously, it doesn't fit on your shelf like a normal dvd set. And it just looks stupid IMO. I'm prob a bit more compulsive than some when it comes to how dvd boxes look on my shelf. But I am not a fan of this one. Also, IMO it puts too much focus on the stupid final season crap like Jacob, the temple, and that dumb board game. I want a box set that doesn't scream out "remember all the lame crap from the final season?!" Like other dvd sets I have that have less than stellar final acts, I'd like the focus to be on the good parts. Why can't it just be a nice, classy looking rectangular shaped box that says, 'LOST' on it? Like The Wire complete set. Just a nice, neat little box. This is like if The Wire box set was made to look like a the newspaper building from the final season. Hopefully they take a page from the Simpsons dvd people when they realized that everyone hated the 3d character face boxes. Ok, enough box talk. I'm sure nobody else cares. haha.

Glad all that got to go to ComicCon had a good time. If nothing else you got to experience less than 100 degree weather, something I have no hope of experiencing for the foreseeable future it seems.

I pulled a way up there Lost nerd moment this week. I got my Lost Prop Auction catalog. It was expensive - $55 (you at least think they'd have made it $42.) And yet I have to say flipping through it, it is worth it. It's over 300 pages full of Lostie goodness. I seriously doubt I'll bid on anything, because I'm not the kind of person that collects or displays memorabilia other than one baseball signed by 4 Cy Young award winners (all Atlanta Braves), but I'll probably check in on the auction from time to time to see how much things are going for.

memphish said...

Seems to me those were pretty bland Twitter-criticisms given some of the vitriol I saw relating to the finale.

Anyone here watching Louie on FX? Pretty raunchy, but pretty funny and sometimes mind blowing like the poker scene from episode 2.

BTW the heat index is going to be 119 here today. It was already 101 in real temp before noon. Damn you sun!

Holli

andrew. said...

ugh. i'm sorry about the heat Holli. The heat finally broke here after a month long, 24-hour a day heatwave.

i like Louie a lot. I like the freeform nature of it too, so you never know where its going to go. Louis CK announced that it was picked up for another season of 13 episodes. So hooray for that!

Otherwise i'm watching Ace Of Cakes, Mad Men, True Blood and, out of a warped sense of duty, Hung & Entourage. Entourage has almost become good because of how shockingly terrible it can be.

memphish said...

It's been the hot here since Memorial Day with no end in sight. Only 96 on Thursday, so we've got that to look forward to.

I feel like I've watched a lot this summer, but nothing I've been in love with, at least not until Mad Men came back 2 weeks ago. It continues to be wonderful if perverse and downright creepy what with Glen.

The show the Hubby and I have enjoyed the most this summer has been The Good Guys with Bradley Whitford and Colin Hanks. It always makes us laugh. And of course it's ratings stink, so who knows if or when Fox will air or make anymore of it.

Holli

Jordan said...

No heat wave here. 75 and sunny with a nice breeze. Yeah, it can suck living here in the fall and spring when it constantly grey and drizzling. But the summer here is the trade off. I'm reminded of that whenever I see how hot and humid it gets back east and in the south.

Louie is great. Although I prob wouldn't recommend it to anybody I don't already know shares my same sardonic sense of humor. I think it's the kind of show that the wrong audience who absolutely hate. Great to hear it got renewed. I've read about how cheap it's made for. That CK basically does everything himself and doesn't ask for much in return. That along with some modest ratings and it being on FX seem to be a good formula for it sticking around a bit. I'm so sick of every comedy I love getting shit ratings and bounced off the air because people who watch 2 and a Half Men and Til Death don't watch it.

Speaking of comedies that I loved that didn't get a following to keep them on the air. Kinda old news, but Party Down was canceled. I'm guessing it gains an Arrested Development-lite post mortem cult following. It was really funny. Totally recommend y'all check out it's 2 seasons if you hadn't previously.

Regarding Lindeloff's critics. I swear, every time I read someone online go, "I just wasted 6 years of my life", I want to figure out where their IP address originates from, buy a plane ticket to Buttfuck, Oklahoma, or wherever they live, and go punch them in the eye. That is such a stupid thing to say. I guess by that logic 'Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Alien Bones' means I wasted however many hours on the first 3 movies. Stupid, stupid, idiots.

Kelly Jo said...

Our heatwave broke during Comic Con.

Stephanie said...

I like Louie but don't have much time this season for tv. I'm watching True Blood, Freaks and Geeks, and Mad Men of course. I like The Good Guys but am behind several episodes. Morgan and I are trying to watch My So-Called Life but don't have much time for it. I guess it'll be nice when school starts next week. We can get back on a schedule that makes tv watching easier.

Stephanie said...

I took a cooler with me to the grocery store today.

memphish said...

I've been watching a lot of stuff on On Demand this summer, something that Comcast actually gets right for the most part. The only downside is the endless ads for The Wolfman. But you can fast forward through the ads.

I might have known Andrew and Jordan would watch Louie. I can't think of anyone here in Memphis I would recommend it to or admit that I watched it to.
