hello, new thread.

memphish said...

So who has shelled out for the DI Kit? What's in it? I'm still pissed about the Lost University thing only being on Blu-Ray. I claim DVD discrimination!

I bought the regular old DVDs on Tuesday, but I'm still rewatching S2. I'll get to S5 after that and then I want to rewatch S1 before S6 starts to complete that whole mirror seasons thing.

How come we didn't get a new thread for the season 5 dvds when they came out in the UK?

how rude.

My Bluray showed up yesterday from amazon. $46 with free shipping. Not bad! The extras are on par with previous sets and i may actually start up on Lost University. Stevi already has and it looks like fun, but if there is too much learnin' i am going to quit.

Jordan said...

Learnin'? Ugh.

Ralph- said...

I did not get the super delux version, because it cost way more and didnt match up with all my other blurays of lost.

Jordan said...

super delux version? sigh. i hate double dipping dvds. feeding off the devotion of the fanatics.

I listened to Damon and Carlton's commentary for the first episode. It seemed very rushed, liked they could barely squeeze in everything they wanted to convey. Similarly to all of Season 5 as it seemed very rushed and dumbed down to me. Still it was better than 98% of everything else that was on TV. I think they effectively set up this coming season.

Jordan said...

Kinda expected. But before now, never official.

Flight of the Conchords not returning for 3rd season.

memphish said...

The same day I bought my LOST DVDs I picked up S1 of Flight of the Conchords on sale at Target. I loved S1; S2 not so much. It was good, but the concept had already worn a bit thin.

Mhhhhhhhhhhhhm I love that new post smell.

I'd like to have seasons 4 and 5 on blu ray. Since I'm not going to be in the mood to watch then anytime soon, I'll wait for the price to go down some. I have to own the entire series eventually.

Ralph- said...

Carlton mentions Sawyers shoulders in a season five commentary.

Kyle from Kentucky said...

they have that deal on amazon where you can buy 1-5 blu ray for 108 dollars. I snatched that up saved me bout $300 practically

PalmerEldritch said...

woah. that's a metric butt load of savings.

is the deal still going on?

memphish said...

Do you think Kate ever found out Sawyer did it with Ana Lucia?

As for Amazon, looks like it was a one-day deal. Now it's over $200 for S1-S5 on Blu-Ray.

Hi guys I never post here, but since this is one of the last ways to contact Ralph, I thought I should say that I finally got around to watching Forbidden Zone... Wow. I mean the music was pretty awesome, but I just don't know how to react to that kind of movie. I guess I liked it... I thought the guy suspended over the table was hilarious. But it will definitely take some thought before I can say it was a favorite.

PalmerEldritch said...

duuuuuuuude.

Force Unleashed 2 and Arkham Asylum 2 announced. badassery will ensue in 2010.

alex, so Forbidden Zone was entertaining? any chance it's streaming on netflix?

sunloc, i caught the end of It's A Wonderful Life and immediately switched the the HD channel. yeah, wasn't being broadcast in HD. :D

alex said...

Yeah it was good. Seeing Danny Elfman play the devil probably makes up for all the weirdness you sit through. But no, its unfortunately not streaming.

PalmerEldritch said...

i've been pretty spoiled with good games for the PS3 lately. my last three were Batman Arkham Asylum, Uncharted 2, and Assassin's Creed 2. good stuff all around.

anyone checked out the VHS or the floppy disks that came with the uber edition of LOST Season 5?

Meanwhile,

Have television stations ACTUALLY been playing this? Including the boy at the end? Why do I think the mailing address for the production company responsible for this is probably a P.O. Box. Yeeeughlalhuck - disturbing.

Watching The Graham Norton Show on BBC1 right now, interviewing Robert Downey Jr. and Irish comedian Ed Byrne.

In what must have been a slow moment, they started playing the Google autocomplete game, bringing up the main page and typing the beginning of innocuous phrases and seeing what it suggests.

"Why is..." garnered the phrase "why is there a dead pakistani on my couch" which caused hilarity and bafflement on the show and a thrill of recognition in me.

Sadly they didn't investigate this phrase to find out where it came from.

PalmerEldritch said...

heheheheheh. yeah, saw that on the interwebs the other day. a bit much. is it a real commercial?

chris, it took me reading your tweet to recognize the quote. funny stuff. i've enjoyed the one or two graham norton segments that i've seen but haven't watched an entire show. funny guy though.

anyone watching the Caprica pilot streaming online for free? i'm not. yet. although, esai morales held a door for me once. so, maybe i WILL check out Caprica.

memphish said...

I've seen the Caprica pilot on DVD complete with nudity and simulated sex acts. I assume they've toned it down for broadcast. I really liked it despite the fact that Colleen Pickett is a major character.

memphish said...

People have been raving about S2 of Sons of Anarchy. It seems like it would similar to Breaking Bad in terms of rough characters and mood. Is that about right Jordan?

Holli

Yeah. Just a bit. I'd say much rougher than Breaking Bad. Pretty much in Sopranos territory in terms of questionable ethics.

In LOST news, that art ARG thingy they did all off season comes to an end tonight. They had an art show in LA; Damon, Carlton, Adam Horwitz, Paul Scheer, Jeff Jensen were all there and the last poster goes on sale tonight. If you're interested this site has followed the game religiously and has all the details.

Otherwise The Morgan Freeman Chain of Command.

It was sort of an ARG. There were clues and live reveals and the websites were hacked and revealed early, so yeah, sort of an ARG. I don't know the technical definition. I assume it's arguable.

wait... Jacob is dancing on the show??? doing the Abandoned Cabin Shuffle, maybe? awesome!

PalmerEldritch said...

wait... Kim likes FlashForward?!

Jordan said...

I don't think FF is THAT bad. I'd even go to say it's midly enjoyable. But you can't take it seriously. And you really can't compare it with Lost. At all.

Halfway through season 2 of Sons of Anarchy. Dang good show.

mb said...

I think you've got the right attitude toward FF Jordan. As soon as I stopped comparing it to Lost, my enjoyment level rose (or at least things didn't bug me so much). I'm behind several eps though.

Anyone watch the season finale of Always Sunny in Philadelphia? It is so nice to have a comedy where I can be pretty much guaranteed at least one good laugh (usually multiple) each episode. I love having that to look forward to each day - Then I look forward to sleep :)

Jordan said...

Along with Curb, Always Sunny is prob the most consistently funny thing on tv. Both are very much acquired senses of humor though. Not for everyone.

andrew. said...

what's up blogspot!

- listened to the So We Think We Can Dance edition of Confessions Of An Internet Addict with Stephanie & Kim. Solid fun, even though i don't know anything about that show.
it's fun to imagine that, in an effort to save face, Kim has reversed her role in the near-fight scenario. ;)

- Always Sunny In Philadelphia finale was kind of a lesser episode for the show, but like MB says, even a below par episode of Sunny has some big laughs. You can buy a Flipadelphia t-shirt if'n you're wanting one.

- Dexter season 4 wrapped up this past week too. I really enjoyed this season. John Lithgow was awesome.

- got my LOST season 5 DVDs. i watched the commentaries & special features, but i've been unmotivated to start a rewatch. I enjoyed trying to untangle the time travel stuff week to week, but now i'm not very enthusiastic to revisit it all. Still stoked for season 6 though!

- I'm really liking 'Misfits,' the UK show that's sort of Heroes meets Skins. Just 'got' episode 5 to watch tonight!

- Also happy that Better Off Ted is back. That's a sharply written show (unlike that awful show Testees)

rock on.

Ralph- said...

The Forbidden Zone is NOT for everyone, in fact, i am not sure it is for anyone. I know that Ben, Ryan and Myself are HUGE fans as is all of our significant others, but it is hands down the Strangest film i have ever seen.

Kirk, i have it on my itunes, i will see about getting you a copy somehow.

Alex, did our words of warning, brace you for what you actually saw?

Jordan said...

What the heck is Testees?

And yes, Better Off Ted is very sharp. One of the more underappreciated shows on right now.

andrew. said...

Testees was the dumb show on either FX or Spike about the guys who sold themselves for medical experiments with wacky, often scatological results.

Stephanie said...

I tried Better off Ted and didn't care for it.

I have a couple of Always Sunnys to catch up on.

I just bought Inglourious Basterds on Blu-ray for 15 bucks! Too bad I have to wait til the SYTYCD finale is over tonight to gather the family around for the Nazi killin.

I am loving Fringe right now. Hopefully Santa will bring me season one and I can catch up to know what the heck is going on.

PalmerEldritch said...

flashforward is sort of a clusterfuck. but the premise is just so promising that i can't stop watching. it should be an excellent show. but it sure isn't yet.

there's a lot going for it but it falls short a lot of the time. hoping it'll pick up soon.

i'll see if Forbidden Zone is on regular netflix or if it's on Hulu or something and get back to you.

uncharted 2 sometime soonish, folks?

i'll probably have an hour of PS3 sometime around 6 eastern tonight.

memphish said...

Season 2 of Fringe is a lot better than the beginning of Season 1 of Fringe. It's still mostly monster of the week stuff, but they've developed the characters sufficiently that I like that now.

I love Better Off Ted. Even when I don't laugh out loud I smirk like Veronica. Portia de Rossi's eyebrows freak me out though.

Chris JC said...

Speaking of Robert Downey Jr, and because I have connections, innit, I've just come back from a private screening of Sherlock Holmes, and will say the following:

* Hans Zimmer
* Mark Strong plays the villain well, but you spend the whole film thinking how good he'd be as Holmes
* At one point, this journey gets made in about twenty seconds
* American Holmes + American love interest = film that's not really meant for us lot
* I went through the actual Baker Street to get there
* Period recreation of London is fucking amazing
* Three out of five

It's bloody cold out there, kids.

Chris JC said...

Oh, and I have the score and soundtrack to Forbidden Zone despite having never seen it.

You may sense the hand of Ralph in this scenario, and you'd be correct.

Jordan said...

Xenophobe :P

On one of my many visits to London, I had a tube pass one day and was just going all over the place. I made a point to get off at Baker Street, just cuz. Got there and saw the Holmes statue and was like, "that's it?" Not sure what I was expecting. But it was a fun jaunt. Looking back, I should've done some method tourism and smoked a pipe or something.

Jordan said...

Caught up with Sons of Anarchy. Still recommend it a good deal. But to Holli and those concerned with shows being dark, violent, and/or uncomfortable, definitely proceed with caution. Some of the stuff that goes down at the end of the 2nd season even made me a bit uncomfortable. Still quite good though. Much better than V or FF.

Jordan said...

Anyone have any ideas about what the hidden clues in that Lost picture are?

memphish said...

You can see closeups of the poster here. It discusses what they think the hidden clues are. I won't post here for the extreme spoiler-phobes. I haven't waded thru the comments to see if others agree or can find any significance in these supposed "clues."

PalmerEldritch said...

and Anna Torv is totally f'n awesome in my book for being Nariko in Heavenly Sword so i'm glad that her show doesn't suck.

Stephanie said...

Lord, no. I'm watching Fringe at work because I'm watching X Files with Morgan at home. Hopefully, I'll get Fringe season one with Santa money immediately after Christmas. Then Morgan and I can catch up before it comes back. Does it come back soon? It looks like it won't return til April. We should be caught up by then.
I'm really loving X Files too now that I have a good quality video of season one. I just couldn't connect with Mulder and Scully watching online. I now can see why she put up with him all those years. Some have argued he's the one that put up with her.

memphish said...

Re Fringe -- there will be 4 new episodes starting 1/14 and then after 2/4 they'll break until April.

Holli

JoeSC said...

What's up everybody?

Fringe has been just great this season. The last couple episodes have been particularly awesome! I really wish FOX would get away from these hiatuses, though, and just make it a fall or spring only show. The breaks are killing it's ratings.

Palmer - I never realized that Anna Torv was the voice of Nariko. I have a whole new level of respect for her! Heavenly Sword was a f'n sweet game.

I also think it's a total joke that John Noble hasn't been nominated for an acting award yet. He's turned Walter Bishop into the most emotionally and psychologically complex mad scientist ever!

Anyone catch that Michael Emerson is nominated for another Golden Globe? It's amazing that LOST wasn't up for more.

My thought, though, is that next year's awards are going to be like a lifetime achievement type deal where everyone who wanted to give them awards in previous years will be forced to after Season 6 because they won't have another shot! Anyone agree? How cool would it be for LOST to sweep every major Emmy next year?

Got my 5 LOST Blu-Rays as well. The Season 5 extras are pretty cool, but I thought the Easter Egg with Cheech Marin making the sandwich over and over in "The Lie" had to be the most boring 5 minutes of my life. THAT is why I could never work in TV or Movies. That monotony would drive me NUTS!!!

Anyone had a chance to see Avatar yet? I'd like to get some some feedback before I invest 3 hours of my life.

Stephanie said...

I hate monotany too.

I didn't really care to see Avatar because it has two of my least favorite things- excess and non-humans. But then I heard this review and decided Morgan and I will see it Tuesday. I'm afraid I'll regret not seeing it in theaters if not.

Rumor has it that this is the last year for American Idol, and it is going to be replaced by an American X factor with Simon Cowell.

scrdmnkydst said...

Well, Simon has been very vocal about wanting to bring X Factor over to the States. And who can blame him? He's just paid as a judge on American Idol, whereas he would own the whole show.

If I'm honest, I much prefer X Factor's format to the Idol format.

Unknown said...

Palmer,

The story for Avatar isn't anything new. I wouldn't say the story is bad but it does get pretty predicable with what is going to happen towards the end, at least for me.

PalmerEldritch said...

video games will probably continue to dominate because i only have three more trophies in Assassin's Creed 2 before hitting Platinum (get all 100 feathers, use a cape that you get for getting all 100 feathers, and kick a dude while using a certain device made by Leonardo which will require i replay the game about halfway since i missed it the first time), and because i want to replay Uncharted 2 on Crushing. heheheh.

but season 1 was awesome during my rewatch.

oh! farscape (complete series) is $58 on amazon. and the mini-series (after the fourth and final season) is only $8. that's $64 which is significantly less than a single season used to cost.

PalmerEldritch said...

and to tie it into LOST, farscape's Scorpius was in the Rose and Bernard episode as the healer in Australia.

it's a little rough in the beginning and season four has some mis-steps but the second half of season 1 and then seasons 2 and 3 are fan-f'ing-tastic. also, if you're a nuBSG fan, you'll notice some glaring similarities in villains eventually.

oh. and the creature design is both insane and glorious.

just dont watch The Peacekeeper Wars mini-series until you're done with the series proper.
