Hang on... I knew there'd be new 'Lars.

That's why I wore my Dharmalars shirt out to Camden Pub earlier.

I needed a break from getting my mind into gear to go on Trivia War with Steph. When you've watched it three times in a row, Rushmore starts to fly by.

Probably a good move, Herlihy. My reaction was an affirmation for positive action, but I was well aware that I didn't have a full grasp of the situation in hand.

So is Watchmen going to be any good? My comic book friend is trying to get me to read the graphic novel. But it's looks a bit daunting. What do people think about the Max Payne movie? Both look intersting. Oh yeah, and I can't wait for Beverly Hills Chiuaua. Looks incredible.

mb said...

Ralph I can't believe you are lying about posting that mess....

...allright it was me. I suck at lying :)

Stephanie said...

The complaint I'm hearing about Max Payne is that making it a PG13 is ridiculous. It should be R. That's it all I know.

memphish said...

I don't know how the Watchmen movie is going to turn out, but the graphic novel is awesome. There's an amazing level of detail, and it plants Easter Eggs and clues way before they pay off. You can really see how it influenced Damon Lindeloff's storytelling. I also like how it uses the things at the end of each section to add information in a different way.

I think the thing with the movie is that it's going to have to work on several different levels to make the fanboys happy. There's going to have to be a level of one-time viewing that works, but there's going to have to be a "hey wait, pause that," level too.

When will someone go mad enough to attempt to carve Devil's Tower into the shape of a plate of mash?

They'd have to be plenty bonkers and equipped with some shit hot gear.

lol Jordan - you joke about Beverly Hills Chihuahua, but let me tell you - that movie cannot get into the theaters fast enough for the Ace. I am sure I or the wife will be seeing it. Hopefully it will be fun enough that I won't need valium or anything - lol.

But so far, the Ace has not dragged me to anything that wasn't at least entertaining :)

Rrb said...

I hate sayin this but.. I'm going through Abadon over dose..I'm watching Fringe ep.3 and It's like the cool guy from The Wire and the Scary Unknown dude from LOST is in a battle with some Rando??? And I need to chose one?? 3 Shows in this short a period is to much for me I think?? Wha t I'm tryin to sayis..........Don't ruin Abadon by making him a main charecter! As always this post was brought to you by a mostly drunk, sometimes ledgebal, and always can't SPELL:)Scott and Steve friend.

PS THANKS FOR THE LARS BOYS it hit the spot!!Work SUCKS!!

[ally] said...

RRB~ have you watched Oz, cause he's in like a couple of episodes of that too.

Is there such a thing as Abadon overdose? I love him!

Stephanie said...

The Lars accompanied me through the McDonald's drive-thru twice today. Once for a sausage biscuit before school and then again for a chocolate milkshake after I bought my tag. This makes it sound like I am a frequenter of McDonalds. I am not. We're just out of groceries and we're going out of town. No need to buy anything.

Jordan said...

I know this is a Lost-centric & dominated blog. But Matthew Abadon is by far one of the smallest/least significant roles Lance Reddick has played. I think he's been in maybe 3 ep's. Even though I first saw him on Oz, he'll always be Lt. Daniels from The Wire to me.

Jordan said...

Steph, I think it's a subliminal thing. We all know that Ralph and Ben are fans of the fast food group. Heaven knows how many poor people they got to eat Baconators.

Jordan said...

So who's stoked for Gary Unmarried tonight?!

...

Uh yeah. TV sucks. Thanks to that damn writers strike, we now get all these crappy shows that would never have seen the light of day had the networks been able to develop new pilots. I know Fringe is a JJ thing and all and would still have received some backing from Fox. But I believe that because of the dearth of new shows, it's getting way too much hype and being overblown way too much by Fox. "The best new show on television". Yeah, that's saying a lot.

scrdmnkydst said...

...i was just about to say Reddick was only in two episodes. but then i realised he's been in three. FACPALM. The Beginning Of The End, Confirmed Dead and Cabin Fever.

I'm such a bad fan :(

- for fans of Mad Men, NPR's Fresh Air had a nice interview with the creator of the show as well as Don Draper & Roger Sterling on the monday podcast edition.

- i have to assume that anybody excited about "Beverly Hills Chihuahua" didn't see the musical number trailer. that thing scarred me for life.

memphish said...

For people who would like to be fans of Mad Men, AMC is going marathon on Season 2 tomorrow starting at 4pm Eastern. 8 episodes have aired so far.

As for Fringe, if next week doesn't really grab me I may check out because the next Tues. night I'll be out of town. It's hard to see me rushing home on a Sunday night to watch Fringe when I'll have Pushing Daisies, The Office and Project Runway on my DVR.

mb said...

lol Andrew - I have to laugh b/c it was that very trailer that sealed the deal for my daughter - now she "HAS to see it"

We can all take solace in the fact that such a movie is not made for any of us. Unless....is anyone here 7 yrs old or younger?

mb said...

Haven't watched last night's Fringe yet (ep.3). So far I've liked it overall. The thing I'm waiting to see is if they take some chances with the scripts and if the characters don't get too caricature-ish (minus John Noble - I love him in this) . There were some acting choices that Anna Torv and Joshua Jackson were making which grated on me a bit.

I'm hoping they are able to become less and less like X-files: the Next Generation - but maybe it's my inner x-phile that's making that comparison too strongly.

[ally] said...

i haven't seen last night's episode either, mb. sadly i'm in no big hurry to watch it. it's just not grabbing me the way i thought it would. (insert twss here)

scrdmnkydst said...

EVERYONE'S SO OLD!

Chris JC said...

It's the circle of life, man - when we were young and vital you were falling over and grazing your knee and wondering where babies came from. Now we're existing in a fairly okay parallel, even though we know it's pretty much your time at the moment, then in about ten years it'll be your turn to wonder how on earth kids can listen to that kind of music and being shocked at the kind of behaviour you see on public transport while you desperately try to hang onto your youth. Then it'll be our turn to have become fully comfortable with our ages and getting into late middle aged casual vindictiveness.

As it should be.

scrdmnkydst said...

er...

well it's true! you're all old and proper grown ups and stuff! with proper jobs and kids and suchlike.

I only found out you had to pay for water the other day. what the hell is up with that!

Chris JC said...

You don't have to if you set up buckets and use a grey water tank and stuff like that.

They're more charging for the amazing pressure used in pumping the stuff to your house.

It's the same argument I have with my mother who refuses to pump up her tyres at a petrol station as she refuses to "pay for air".

Jordan said...

I'll tell you Herlihy. If you can explain to me the appeal of the Jonas Brothers.

mb said...

Herlihy - it's all relative man. If I remember my 20s right - you're going to start looking at teenagers around you in a few years and saying "Man I'm old"

Actually, for me I think it was hitting 25 (and thinking of it as a quarter-century) that started the "I'm old" idea in my head.

But you know, I say "I feel old" to my parents and it's always good for a laugh with them. It's all relative.

scrdmnkydst said...

meh, i don't have to pay for water for at least another two years. Tax exemptions and student accomodation FTW

I felt old when i first went back home from uni and went out in a club in my hometown, i didn't recognise anyone and everyone looked so small... although most people look small to me cos i am 6"7 but that's superfluous...

also, jonas brothers? the appeal is easy. 3 clean cut almost androgynous prepubescent and non threatening boys who make pop so sickly sweet that it's almost painful to anybody who doesn't have a Y chromosome... they're nice looking, "funny", can act and suchlike... it's like Miley Cyrus... but with unbroken voices.

Jordan said...

Miley Cyrus has a deeper voice than me, I think.

Much more excited for 30 Rock than I am The Office. Over the last season or so, 30 Rock has passed up The Office in funny and creative terms IMO. The Office is getting kinda stale. Still funny and better than 95% of the crap on tv. But I just don't get excited for it the way I used to. I think I blame it mostly on Jim and Pam getting together. Ever since they did, I don't find their characters funny, just obnoxious. Especially Jim. 30 Rock on the other hand has really found it's comedic groove. You go Liz Lemon!

- remember LOST? pretty good show. pretty, pretty good.

- the office was great. i think Kelly and Holly were my favorite parts. I really hope Holly sticks around for a long time.

- if PBS is showing the debate, i'll watch it there.

- I want to see "Choke" because its one of the better Chuck Palahniuk books, but i'm a little worried about the way it's being marketed. The whole sex addict thing didn't seem that prominent in the book. It was funny but got really dark and serious.

- i got 45 minutes into Speed Racer last night before i zonked out. It's really odd. It reminds me of Tim Burton's "Charlie & The Chocolate Factory" in that the narrative style is aimed towards children where a lot of things are over-explained, but then there are a lot of strangely complex plot details. I don't think it's very surprising that this had a hard time at the box office or with critics.

LOST is a great show :P Can't wait until Feb.

Andrew, I'd watch the debates on PBS too--but my house will be glued to CNN, and switching between that and FOXNews (barf)

Wasn't too impressed with The Office premiere, but it had it's moments. Kelly was hilarious, and the funniest part was **** being the *** ***********. LOL

Jordan said...

Andrew, was that a Curb Your Enthusiasm reference? If no, nice unintentional one.

I wasn't too keen on The Office last night. It was ok, I guess. Still better than most of the crap of tv. I'm not a big fan of the hour long eps, as they come off as normal length eps, just with a bunch of crap that they would've cut left in. Jim proposing to Pam, barf. Andy Bernard is now the funniest thing on that show.

[ally] said...

I really have never cared for Pam and Jim together. Like they're funny when they're apart cause it's just flirtation. Anything other than that I've never liked. It just drags the show down because that's what everything and everyone is focused on.

I like Holly, she was good. Andy Bernard is hilarious!

andrew. said...

- Jordan - definitely a Curb Your Enthusiasm reference. i don't think it's even possible to say "pretty good" without thinking of Larry David now.

The new Knight Rider is Shit.

Kimberley - I liked SCC from the beginning but it was about episode three or four when it went from "acceptable" to "really good". I have little knowledge of Brian Austin Green so his arrival meant little to me.

It puts feet wrong sometimes, and had plot strands that mean nothing (although this could be writers' strike related, things they intended to pay off that they just weren't able to include)

Also it's worth working though until season 2 just so you can see a urinal turn into a woman.

Yes, really.

...and Jordan is a liar. He does watch Boston Legal. It's his favourite show.

Has anybody ever seen Ricky Gervais' old band, Seona Dancing? If not, Youtube it. How have I gone this long never knowing of this? Hahaha. Thanks to Scene/Unseen to mentioning this. lol.

Glad to see the blogspot is planning TV viewing as the economy continues to go to hell in a handbasket. Escapism -- catch it!

No one mentioned my shows -- How I Met Your Mother, Chuck and Life. That's what I'll be watching. And if Barney Stinson fails me, I'll just watch Tina Fey doing Sarah Palin again to make it all better.

I don't want to get too political here. But the best thing about Tina Fey on SNL was that she pretty much just repeated what Palin said. And it was hilarious. If only the SNL writers had such material handed to them all the time.

Chris JC said...

In the UK there is a radio panel show called The News Quiz in which comedians answer questions about recent world events in amusing ways (it's on BBC Radio 4 so it's quite sedate and middle class).

They have just started a new series and on the first episode they openly thanked Sarah Palin for coming onto the scene and in her honour played a selection of the Hallelujah Chorus.

These are writers who KNOW they've just been given a satirical gift.

memphish said...

Yeah Thursday night should be interesting because both candidates are likely to say something draw-dropping. Letterman's taping live Friday to take advantage.

Chris JC said...

Even WE are getting a live feed of that starting at a little after 11pm.

I'm coming to the conclusion that since the POTUS basically rules the planet, that we should all get a vote.

t-dot kim said...

I think Thursday night will be a shit-show. I'm not a fan of Sarah Palin, but it's true she makes SNL more bearable. Tina Fey didn't change a word of Palin's interview, and it was just as funny.

memphish said...

I loved the whole bit like thinking she'd found Bin Laden driving an NYC taxi and wanting to use a Lifeline. I laughed harder the 2nd time than the 1st time I watched it. The debate sketch wasn't very funny, but the Darrell Hammond as Clinton line about "women being uncomfortable doing something at first" had me rolling.

Jordan said...

I find it kind of annoying that about 75% of SNL was political. I mean, I know they kinda suck now and different sketches wouldn't have been any better. But it sure looks like a pathetic, "WATCH US! IT'S ABOUT THE ELECTION!" ploy.

The funniest thing for me was that I watched the SNL sketch before the actual Palin interview. At the time I had no clue that all the stuff about keeping an eye on Russia was actually said by her. lol.

Quick BSG question. I've watched through Season 3 and Razor. I've got Eps. 4.1-4.10 on the DVR, but haven't watched yet. I just want to confirm the identity of the final Cylon has yet to be revealed. True?

kim~ the first time i went to the class i wore shorts, this weekend i wore capri pants. neither really did much for the pole stuff, since the tricks i learned involved hooking the bottom part of the leg and hands. as you get into more complicated stuff like climbing up on the pole it's better to wear shorts, because you need to grip the pole to hold on. (i think i just got everyone's attention now)

[ally] said...

i'm thinking about getting my own pole, but i'm not sure yet. i don't have anywhere to put it, i'd have to rearrange furniture.

Little Britain USA was pretty funny. I have heard a lot about the british series, will have to find those episodes. Oh, and David Arnold does the music for the show...AWESOME!

I also watched that "Something Something Tim" animated show after Little Britain and thought it was really funny.

Chris JC said...

Little Britain did three series (that's three TV series - it also ran for two series on radio first) here and went downhill VERY fast, to the point where I was just tuning in for Tom Baker's introduction then changing the channel.

Maybe this has been the break they need - or perhapsi's still more sexist, racist humour delivered "ironically".

I wouldn't know as we don't get to see it yet.

Oh, and isn't "Little Britain USA" the strangest title in the world?

Holli, the 5th Cylon is yet to be revealed.

Another attempt to make Peep Show for the US.

There have been previous shots at this, where the producers have decided not to use the first-person perspective used in the show (translation: the thing that sets it apart from any other mismatched housemates comedy).

Will it be as dark as the original? Who knows?

Hey - the array of wedding cakes from my Big Day has shown up on the maker's website.

It's the picture on the right

nothing complicated for us, except the LEGO couple. If you're wondering the other picture and the quote about flamenco is nothing to do with us in the slightest.

Hell yes there are good movies coming out. It's the beginning of Oscar Bait season. The Ridley Scott one with Leo and Crowe- Body of Lies. Another Leo movie is the one with Kate Winslet- Revolutionary Road. What about the new James Bond? The new Angelina Jolie film looks fantastic, directed by Clint Eastwood. Of course we have to see Zach and Miri. I'd like to see The Miracle at St Anna. I've been hearing about Synecdoche, NY for forever. The Road, I will see because I love Viggo. What else? I will be seeing The Dutchess. Not interested in Eagle Eye. I will be seeing Twilight now since I read the book and enjoyed it. Nick and Norah. And will eventually see Appaloosa. Will for sure see Choke. You shouldn't have gotten me started, p.
Look what I found on my tv!
The IT Crowd

Heroes didn't do it for me last night for some reason. I think it's because the first two were like skitzo crazy. Last night was more methodical or something.

PalmerEldritch said...

oh yeah! The Road. with music by Nick Cave. fantastic! when is that out?

- 'sup y'all

- i'm beginning to think that the writers were playing up 'the sickness' too much. sure, it knocked me on my ass for 3 days, but i was expecting more of a cuckoo-bananas, one-armed murderous rampage sort of experience.

- Yeah, lots of good looking movies coming out. i'm expecting to see: Choke / Blindness / Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist (eventually) / Religulous / Igor / Quarantine (eventually) / Body Of Lies / Rocknrolla (eventually) / W. / Synechdoche, New York / Happy Go Lucky

- I'm interested in seeing "Igor" because it combines 2 of my favorite things, Frankenstein & animation, but i have seen ZERO promotion for it; not one commercial, not one trailer, not one print ad, not one web ad... I've only seen it on IMDB when i look for upcoming movies. weird.

- i watched the Steelers eek out a win in overtime last night, so i'm behind on Heroes & Terminator: SCC. I did catch up with Mad Men (one of the best episodes yet!), True Blood (weakest episode yet.) and Entourage (par.)

- The LOST ARG is going to be entering a new stage soon. The goofy, generic internet quizes should be over and hopefully we'll get some LOST-related content.

for some reason that Hello Kitty costume vs. real kitty picture reminded me of these:
Kooky Spooks
these were kind of the high end of kids halloween costumes, the sort of thing nobody you knew had but you might see Ricky Schroeder sport on Silver Spoons. shit was expensive in the 80's.

memphish said...

Andrew -- you aren't watching enough Cartoon Network if you missed the Igor ads. I've seen it once and Kiddo's seen it twice. It's okay. Pretty standard fair.

I hear Blindness is pretty lame. I forgot about W. That should be interesting. I can't stand Bill Maher and have no interest in his mocking of religious people. I have a bad cam corder version of Rocknrolla on my iPod but have not gotten around to watching it. Happy Go Lucky seems to be about an autistic girl. Looks like it's trying to be Amelie but fails.

Time for a new thread...

I'm actually looking forward to Oscar season movies. Body of Lies looks good and I'm not a Russel Crowe fan at all. Revolutionary Road also looks good. I saw the trailer for Australia today, that looks like it'll a treat to watch (visually), but I'm not so sure if I'll like it. I'm a big Kevin Smith fan, but I haven't heard great things about Zach and Miri--I'll see it, but I don't want to hype it up too much. I'm also going to see The Miracle at St Anna, but I heard the town in Italy where it's based says it's very biased, and not a real representation of what happened. I saw Lakeview Terrace over the weekend as a joke--it was the worst movie I've seen in a LONG time.

i assumed kim would make a new thread since she said we needed a new one.
