Yeah - been meaning to get a comprehensive backup system together. I can't believe I haven't lost everything b4 now. Gotta get on the ball!

Probably will be losing power here soon as it has flickered a few times and my satellite is rebooting. I'm 'broadcasting' from my patio on my iPhone.

Can someone start a new thread? This 2 page thing sucks. Strangely, usually my DirecTV goes out with a couple drops of rain, at least temporarily, but tonight it is holding up to rain and some nasty winds. Go figure.

A real tangent here. I have a 3 year old Formac Studio TVR that I will give to any Apple person that lays claim to it. I just never used it.

Finally lost my DirecTV signal, probably for good this time. Bummer. The Weather Channel in HD is the place to be.

Update from NW Houston. Very windy, not much rain still, and still have satellite and obviously all utilities. Winds blowing close to 100mph downtown, but this city is so geographically huge that we are still good here where I live.

3:50 local time and conditions are deteriorating rapidly here. Strange, huge flashes of orange are lighting up the sky at times. Power out several times but has come back on within a few seconds each time. The trees behind my house bending severely with rain blowing like crazy. Again, my satellite TV reboots with each power outage and I continue to watch The Weather Channel and some local stuff. It will be very interesting to see what some parts of this city look like when the sun rises in a few hours. We are all well here.

Goodnight blogspotica. No lights as far as the eye can see. Sent from my iPhone. Don't you just LOVE Apple products?

Wow Robert. Thanks for the updates. Stay safe and I hope your dish and power get back on soon. I'd bet those orange flashes were transformers going.

Best of luck to those in Hurricane Land. Stay safe!

"I'd bet those orange flashes were transformers going."

holli, let's hope that none of those Transformers 'were going' on John Turturro's head. :\

robert, ally, and other hurricane affected blogspotters, hope you are all doing well considering the circumstances. stay safe!

My computer has having trouble loading a few programs. Every time I opened iTunes, it would lose my entire library. I had to import all songs/podcasts/playlists EVERY time I opened it. MSN Msgr was acting up as well as 2 other programs. I deleted all programs and then re-installed them...didn't fix it. So I re-installed Leopard OS--completely wiped everything and all my files are gone :( That's what I did. I can't find any previous operating systems on my hard drive. I'm pretty sure I erased everything. It was my fault.

Robert, MB...if you have any suggestions...i doubt it would make a difference. I'm pretty sure everything is gone. I'm not too upset because i can always download music, podcasts, etc...it's just my pictures that I'm upset over. Oh well.

Ally, Robert...how are things in TX this morning? I was watching CNN and it all looks a bit over the top. Sure broken windows, debris everywhere--but they were doing "man-on-the-street" interviews, and they all seem to be in good spirits despite the storm.

er.....
eek

well. My iTunes lost it's library a couple of times. but i knew what to do... There's a file called "iTunes Library", it's a datebase file that iTunes loads up everytime it starts. So i just pointed iTunes towards that file and everything was fixed.

I normally get MSN errors. but a quick look online usually gives me a fix.

I R GEEK :(

Robert - holy crap! posting from an iPhone inside the hurricane. You are the man.

Kim - I found this at apple.com/support:

http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.5/en/8177.html

do you remember if you clicked "Archive and Install" or "Erase and Install" when you went through the process?

Just got power back here. Almost feel guilty as literally millions are without. Amazing damage around here which is, as I mentioned, 100 miles inland. Trees down everywhere uprooted, fences gone, power poles snapped in pieces and laying on rooftops. Walgreens sign laying near my street and the store is a mile away! I have a lot of missing shingles and a pretty good leak in one bedroom, but really very lucky. I need to watch TV to see what has happened as we have been limited to radio for about 12 hours.

Robert glad to be back online.

mb said...

Very glad to hear you're alright Robert! Sounds insane!

memphish said...

Can't believe you have power back Robert. Must be all that clean living. Glad you're safe. I hope Ally is too. Looks like y'all have a long cleanup ahead.

glad that the walgreen's sign didnt land in your living room, robert. yeesh. scary stuff, that mother nature.

hope ally's doing well too.

and that she gets power back in time for prisonbreak on monday. ;)

t-dot kim said...

yeah...everything's gone guys. thanks for the help.

Robert, Ally...are you guys ok? Good to hear your power is back Robert. Watching CNN, they "sensationalize" EVERYTHING. If I believed them, you guys would be out of power for the next month!

memphish said...

Well we had 5 minutes of wind in Memphis and were out of power for a week and a half, so I can easily see it taking at least a month to get everyone in Houston back on.

Robert said...

Thanks for the thoughts everyone. Ally must be far south of me and probably without power. Silly thing to me is that all local stations are going 'hurricane' 24/7 when, really, there are not many able to watch them. My son is sooooo pissed that the SC/Ohio State game isn't on here due to hurricane coverage! I know, he needs some compassion but he is, however, a teenager. :)

It has started raining again here and my leak is flowing again in my son's bedroom. Unfortunately, it is not something I can fix myself. Roofing? I don't think so. Too steep for me. :)

I forgot to mention that a guy on my street owns a Land Rover dealership and has a wench on the front of his SUV. This good samaritan spent the day going up and down the streets helping people to upright their trees. Good citizen.

One last hurricane post and I will shut up. My daughter and her boyfriend brought home some bent up street signs that were just laying around in the debris. They are already prominently displayed on her bedroom walls. Kinda cool, if not legal. :)

Sounds like they are just part of the clean-up effort to me Robert.

Was "Tin Man" any good? Everywhere I go over here people seem to want to sell me it for increasingly reduced prices.

Mr. Bill said...

Yeah Chris "Tin Man" was ok I watched for free on the sci fi channel I kind of liked it is a knew wierd spin on the wizard of oz but in a good way. I have the hots for Zooey Deschanel but she acted the same she does in everything else she has done.

Robert, I'm glad you made it through the hurricane and the teenagers.

Any one heard from ally?

Chris JC said...

I like Zooey and The Wizard of Oz but thought I should try to get some opinion before diving in.

Wishing the windswept well.

memphish said...

I liked Tin Man okay. I recorded and watched it when it aired as well. I'm not sure I'm pay for it.

BTW, Ike has been passing through Memphis overnight and is almost gone. That is one fast moving storm.

- i also watched "Tin Man" largely becaue i have a crush on Zooey Deschanel (mostly from her character on Weeds). "Tin Man" has a cool aesthetic and a couple of interesting twists on the Wizard of Oz story. It's really slow though, and Zooey gives one of her weird monotone performances. It's worth a rent if you're curious, but i wouldn't purchase it.

- Zooey Deschanel's music album as She & Him is good though. I recommend that.

Rental it is!

Rained here again this am and my son's bedroom ceiling and wall are looking bad. The wood floors in his room are buckling. Comcast out so only Internet is my trusty iPhone. Still no word from Ally? Impossible to find someone to fix things at this stage. I guess I will be on the frickin' roof myself trying to cover spot with a tarp. My neighbors family room ceiling collapsed this am from same missing shingle leak problems I have. Looks harmless from the street, but water can really do damage.

Trevor McFur said...

Careful up there Robert, don't break anything (especially on yourself). Hope you have a good homeowner's policy.

I've read that some areas are going to be quite a while without power. So if Ally doesn't have an iPhone, etc, she might not be back online for awhile. Hope she's ok.
