- although i'm not going to Comicon, this podcast will come in handy when i play along with the home-edition.
- i just watched Hellboy 2. It was a good time. It felt a lot like a throwback to the fantasy films of the 80s. It's going to get squashed by Dark Knight but i hope it does okay.
- those tatuus are hilarious. I really hope some of them are photoshopped.

Petunia FTW.

Great episode you guys!

Looking forward to meeting Ben for the first time knowing he won't snub me... phew!

Thanks Ralph & Ben - a treat going into the weekend :)

also,

Some info from the mouths of Damon and Carlton (on the ABC press tour) about Season 5 over at the SPLOG!

Excellent! I wonder if one day I might be able to manage a Comic-Con trip? After I hear this I'll be two "survival" guides down so I'll really know my stuff.

Also - on your suggestion I've FINALLY managed to see King of Kong this morning.

It's fecking excellent, despite all of the "corrections" I've read online.

The Octagon Global Recruiting stuff is heating up. There's a new email with a hidden message. You can read about it here if you haven't gotten your email yet. Which I haven't.

PalmerEldritch said...

ah, message in the source code of http://www.octagonglobalrecruiting.com/site/emails/0716.php where they stuck the email online.

PalmerEldritch said...

trevor... you have a new hero:

Batfan with a couple of battoos.

Trevor McFur said...

That guy is awesome.

I got the email this morning too. Hopefully the recruitment site will be open all day on the 28th, and not for an hour or two.

My little cousin went to an open tryout for Survivor yesterday and did awesome. They kept him around to do multiple interviews, and he was told on the spot that he made it to the second round, in August (going into the audition, they were told that they wouldn't hear anything for about a month). It's for the 18h edition, starting in January, I think.

Chris JC said...

Helen Mirren. nearly 63 and yet holding up well.

Excellent stuff.

(Sorry to link to the Daily Mail. Don't read anything else on that site.)

mb said...

63!?!? Wow, she is indeed doing well apparently. Taylor Hackford is a lucky man!

Trevor McFur said...

I'm holding out for Judi Dench bikini pics.

Stephanie said...

Damn, Helen Mirren! Who's your plastic surgeon? Excellent work. Speaking as a 35 year old who can say that body is not natural. Not even with great genes.

[ally] said...

This should explain how hot it gets here in Texas, in case anyone is wondering. Even though some of them sound crazy, sadly they're true.

Chris JC said...

Steph - I believe it is a natural body. Just an annoying one.

I'm not going to see Wall-E tonight after all and you know why? Buses. Three buses went by with too many people on for me to also get on to get to the film in time.

I'll just have to throw down $18.90 another time.

andrew. said...

- Stephanie & other movie podcast fans. I listened to an episode of the Errata podcast on my commute this morning and really enjoyed it. It's a bit more dry than a Filmspotting, Scene/Unseen or Mark Kermode (what would you expect with a name like Errata) but they seemed to have a wide exposure to films and were thoughtful with their analysis. Because i needed yet another movie review podcast to listen to...

- now it's time to retreat into a cave until i can see The Dark Knight.

Trevor McFur said...

CTFers, where should I send my Dark Knight review? Assuming that I can actually figure out how to record properly, hopefully I should be done with it late this evening.

Chris JC said...

Why, cuethefilm@gmail.com of course!

Oh shit - I've just realised I'll have to edit this into the show. It may go in unchecked, Trevor, so it'd be your chance to say whatever you want!

Trevor McFur said...

I'll have to have a few drinks before recording. When are you planning to release your next show?

Chris JC said...

We had some tech issues recording on Monday so we'll be recording this coming Monday instead. Hopefully we'll be able to get back into sync soon afterwards. I thought about doing a quick solo Splice for release this evening, but it didn't happen.

[ally] said...

a drunk movie review? and it'll be unchecked/unedited?

sounds like it'll be a good show.

PalmerEldritch said...

i'm trying to buy imax tickets to batman but the site is experiencing "technical difficulties." methinks the site collapsed under the weight of batmania.

memphish said...

Is Batmania like Bird Flu?

Holli

[ally] said...

I haven't even tried to buy tickets, but I think I should, just so I can have a sure seat once I get there. I'm hoping the mania has died down by Sunday, but who knows.

Benjamin said...

Palmer, the win is yours with Petunia. Well done!

I always struggled with the dual notions that it was cool that little Pete had a tattoo, and probably better off not explained, vs. the thought that it would also be cool at least once to find out how and why!

PalmerEldritch said...

batman imax tickets have been purchased. sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet.

Ralph- said...

i wish i would have listened to Metrobuzz prior to doing our show, but the Internet didnt allow me to download it just yet. Apparently in our 07 Survival Guide we mentioned not to bring Sun Screen, probably cause i never use it cause i dont like being greazy and my golden flesh laughs at Earth's Yellow Sun!

I cant wait to see you folks at the Con, for those of you who can't make it, we will try very much to get shit up on the site as well as the myspace so that you can live through the dharmalars!

there is no free wi fi at the convention center so all that stuff will go up late at night.

Can't wait to report from comic con and to get this (pictured to the right) --> SUPER FUCKING SWEET Darwyn Cook Madman Poster that they are giving away at the Image booth. Fingers Crossed on that one!!!!

[ally] said...

So everything is sold out at the IMAX where I was planning to go. And now that I've psyched myself up to go see it on a bigger screen, I refuse to watch it on a regular screen.

So I guess I'll be watching TDK next week/weekend.

PalmerEldritch said...

memphish said...

I'm now listening to the Comic Con Survival Guide. I have delayed in protest of the fact that on my Saturday of Comic Con I'll be coming down from the 9-year-old spend the night party instead of standing in line for the LOST panel.

I really hope folks we "know" get to ask some good questions. Here's what I want to know if you need a question to ask:

1. WTF with the plane wreckage in the wrong ocean? If the grassy knoll conspiracy has raged for 45 years, why isn't someone upset that the plane crashed on a route that would never get you to Los Angeles?

2. What the heck has happened to the "storm" around the Island that messed with Naomi, Frank's helicopter at the beginning of S4 and with Desmond's head in The Constant? It seems to be missing by the end of S4 as the Zodiac travels back and forth to the Island, Frank travels back and forth and Juilet and Sawyer's ability to see the freighter when it blows. And don't let them give you any the Zodiac stayed on 305 guff because that's total navigational BS. And as follow-up to that notion you might ask, why Doc Ray's face scar is fresh when he lands on Island, but his throat is still cut.

3. What's with dream Horace's claim he's been dead 12 years when Alex is 16? Did Danielle survive the purge?

And for the Heroes panel: Is Season 3 going to suck like Season 2 or is it worth watching, and can you ever freaking die on that show?

Holli

Ralph- said...

To everyone going to Comic Con, don't forget to print out your Registration with the Bar Code!! You will need it to get your badge!!

Trevor McFur said...

The Dark Knight -- better than the hype

All I can think now is, when can I see it again??????

Stephanie said...

Andrew, I just started listening to the Errata podcast too. The hosts are very "La Te Da" but enjoyable. Also Battleship Pretension is good. This week they talked about their deceased fathers in relation to movies. Very much a downer but fascinating.

Trevor McFur said...

I think that the Dark Knight review will have to wait for the morning CTFers............

Stephanie said...

Trev, if you want you and I could have a little conversation about it. I'll record it. Maybe 10 minutes.

Alirio said...

good morning blogspottica!

I see some of you have seen TDK last night. Very nice.

Unfortunately I was building some strangely named piece of furniture from Ikea last night. Couldn't leave the house until it was done. No, it's not a Blërg.

Wondering how many blogspotters are going to try and make it to the new X-Files movie while in San Diego?

Trevor McFur said...

Steph, that sounds like fun ... I just set up an AIM accont as TrevorMcFur and added you, I'll have it on if I'm around he house.

Trevor McFur said...

Steph, not sure if you got my twitter reply since I'm now getting a message saying it's down for maintenance. But, my schedule tomorrow is looking unpredictable (my sister is being induced today and expecting to give birth to my neice at some point tomorrow). I could definitely do it today at 9-10.

andrew. said...

comicon is this week mr. bill, so no info gleaned yet.

Mr. Bill said...

My bad... I was thinking it was last weekend. I'm obviously behind the cutting edge. LOL!

Chris JC said...

Nah - you're ahead of your time. If it had been last week and you thought it was coming up, that would make you behind the times.

Jordan said...

I need to see this Batman movie you all are talking about. I think it comes out wherever I am going to be this coming weekend. Hopefully the crowds aren't as bad as you guys delt with.

And for all of you who thought it was funny to rub salt in my wounds talking about the new name for Jokelahoma City's team that they stole from us. They picked a name.

The Jokelahoma City Thunder.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Uh, did anybody tell JOKC that they are in the NBA, not the Arena Football League? What a bunch of goofs. It's probably the only solace I can take from this whole fucked up situation.

So I'm currently in Bergen, Norway and I just tried smoked whale and smoked reindeer. Both Moby Dick and Rudolph were pretty good.

Remind me who all is going to Comicon. Seems like a bigger group than last year. Is Ralph going to take everybody out for Baconators afterward? Have fun guys. And go Alirio, go!

PalmerEldritch said...

The Oklahoma City Thunder?

Awesome. No wonder I don't watch the NBA.

i'll be at Comic Con. wonder if Elvira will be there again? my girlfriend nearly lost her life last year when she had a near miss with Elvira's chest while walking around the Convention Center.

i havent had whale but reindeer is frickin tasty. never had roasted Elf though.

the dark knight was really good. everyone go see that. but dont bring little kids or they will shit their pants. there's some gruesome stuff.

andrew., there were a couple of silly parts of The Dark Knight but i agree that 95% or more of the movie was bat-tastic.

this Joker is light years beyond the Jack Nicholson Joker. and the Cesar Romero Joker.

quick! someone connect The Dark Knight to LOST ala Kevin Bacon.

hmmm...

Eric Roberts from The Dark Knight was in Heroes and Heroes' Dania Ramirez was in X-Men: The Last Stand with Ken Leung who is in LOST.

can anyone beat that?

[ally] said...

I don't feel so bad now. I thought I was the only one who still hadn't seen The Dark Knight, apparently Jordan still has another week before he sees it, which will probably be how long it takes me to go see it.

Glad to hear that everyone liked it.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MR. MCFUR!

scrdmnkydst said...

I'm trying to struggle through season one of BSG, but it's so hard going... please tell me it's going to get better...

memphish said...

I haven't seen it yet either Ally, and probably won't for at least another week unless I sneak away by myself and see it during the day. Which Hubby would not like.

Holli

Stephanie said...

herlihy, I hate to say it but if season one isn't doing it for you, you might want to give up now. Sounds like the show just isn't for you. I can't believe I am typing those words.
Holli, HIMYM gets exceedingly better. At the start, I couldn't believe everyone was comparing it to Friends. Now, I say it's so much better. Barney Stinson is the greatest character on tv. Are y'all tired of hearing me say that?
Happy Birthday Trev! Are you an uncle?

memphish said...

I agree with Stephanie Herlihy. If you don't like BSG Season 1 just stop.

I really like HIMYM. I watched all of Season 3 as a result of the writers strike. I had watched the occasional Season 1 and 2 episodes, but now I'm catching up on DVD. Not every episode hits on all cylinders, but overall I really enjoy it. Barney is the best.

Holli

[ally] said...

it's so hard going... please tell me it's going to get better...

THAT'S WHAT HE SAID!

memphish said...

AG semifinals start tonight!

BTW, while I was at the beach the kid and I watched 1 episode of "I Survived A Japanese Gameshow." That was one of the worst things I had ever seen. Turns out it's a reality show with them living together and getting eliminated instead of just Americans making asses of themselves on the game show which would be so much more entertaining than more "Real World"-esque drama.

Holli

[ally] said...

I have yet to begin my BSG summer catch up marathon.

Holli, same here. I thought maybe I could sneak and go watch it, but I'm thinking I won't and will probably just wait til next weekend.

It was impossible to go see it this weekend, everything was sold out. Stupid Batman lovers!

Jordan said...

While I hate them with every inch of my heart, how funny would it have been had the Jokelahoma team named themselves thundercats as earlier rumored?

She then was in labor from early Saturday morning until yesterday afternoon, when they decided a C-section was in order. But the kid is beautiful and healthy, and my sis is feeling better than she has in 9 months.
