Is it just me who thinks that that youtube video is a little creepy?

I liked the video once he finally started "rapping," but I wasn't watching most of it; just listening.

this episode is chock full of WTFery.

[ally] said...

yeah, false alarm.

wtf is going on?!?!?

[ally] said...

i don't know what's more devastating, not knowing what's going on or claire's horrible wig?

I like that Holli.

and... wtf!?

PalmerEldritch said...

crackpot theory:

ben will never find penny because she is... on the island with desmond, brothah!!!!

Anonymous said...

Holy. Crap.

Why can't Ben kill Widmore?
What rules have been changed?
How the hell did Claire survive that bomb thingy (didn't notice the wig)?

OMG FUCK!

[ally] said...

well i noticed the wig big time, when sawyer carried her through the window.

where would penny be that ben won't find her?

i kinda wish i hadn't watched the next week on lost thing. i couldn't reach the remote in time to turn it off.

Unknown said...

I love lost. Amazing episode tonight. The end kind of reminded me of the Pacino/De Niro scene in Heat.

memphish said...

The wig was awful! Especially at the end in the jungle.

I like it Palmer. I thought of that too, but I'm guessing Ben just came from the Island into Tunisia.

Weird...but amazing episode.

Ah! You guys got next week's preview?? Lucky. Though I guess that means I'll just be watching it with no foresight, which is pretty cool.

memphish said...

The promo left me going -- crap that's what we're getting next week. Hopefully I'll be wrong about that. Of course I don't like the looks of it because my least favorite character will get to be the hero perhaps. I hate her.

[ally] said...

consider yourself lucky, gillian.

i really don't like to watch them b/c i can see the episode with more anticipation.

agreed, holli, i hope i'm wrong too. i'm not sure i liked what i saw coming.

i know this is gonna get lost on the page and ryan won't see it, but.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY PRODUCER RYAN!

PalmerEldritch said...

that was a pretty darn entertaining episode. i remember looking at the clock a few times amazed that there was still so much time left.

WHERE'S DANIELLE?! i want her to kill Doctor McKeamy!

memphish said...

I like it Palmer!!!! Crazy French chick drags her bloody body through the jungle and takes out the murderer of her bay-bee.

Trevor McFur said...

So I think we now know that it was Charles that faked the wreckage ... that Ben can control the monster ... and that whatever gets the Oceanic 6 off the island, it's not through Widmore's people (otherwise, I'd think, he knows how to get back).

How the fuck did Ben wind up in Tunesia? The way that he threw up, it reminded me of how the Silk Spectre would throw up whenever she transported with Dr. Manhattan. And why was he wearing a parka?

PalmerEldritch said...

he was wearing a parka cuz he was visiting Ozymandias.

i dont think Ben can control the smoke munster. ok, i'll just say it. BEN CANNOT CONTROL THE SMOKE MUNSTER. but the motherfucker can sabotage the fuck out of the generator for the sonic fence. :)

PalmerEldritch said...

now that i've said that, Ben will be making the Smoke Munster do loop-de-loops and party tricks on cue next week.

Trevor McFur said...

Maybe he can't control it, but he at the very least released it somehow, and told it to bring along a big can of whoop-ass.

PalmerEldritch said...

good ol' smokey.

when that rumble first started up, i wondered if Fireball Island had reared its ugly head.

Stephanie said...

Wow. That was good. Yeah, why was Ben wearing a parka and looking cold just before he threw up? I'm thinking Jack's stomach bug is appendicitis.

PalmerEldritch said...

KABLAMO!!

[ally] said...

so i guess sayid married nadia. did ben have nadia killed so sayid would join his army?

Trevor McFur said...

I thought at first we were seeing the beginning of Jack's pill popping. I really don't care about Jack with a tummy ache.

They really need to find something to do with Sawyer. His biggest role this season is to play the guy representing the casual fan.

"Michael? The guy who killed 2 women and took off?"
"Jacob? Wait, who's this Jacob character?"

Trevor McFur said...

They didn't give Nadia's death too much play, but it's actually really sad. She was such a part of his backstory and now she's gone. They're actually closing up the backstories of the 6, if you noticed. Kate's no longer the fugitive on the run, Sayid's no longer searching for Nadia, Sun's no longer trying to escape Jin.

[ally] said...

and what was up with kate being all flirtatious?

she really has it bad for the guy who isn't well.

Trevor McFur said...

It looks like Kate's job tonight was to give coy smiles to all the guys. Although, when she was sitting on the beach bringing down her top, I was like, "Woohoo, new timeslot!"

Nice to see Bernie getting some screentime, and getting something to do with it.

DenAss said...

I agree. I think Ben either killed Nadia himself, or had her killed so he could enroll Sayid in his army of two.

Aside from that, there were WAY more questions than answers in tonight's episode. I'm loving season 4 of Lost.

SMALL SPOILER ALERT BELOW

One thing I don't get though is how did the guy that killed Alex live through the smoke monster attack? I thought "Smokey" would have got them all.

that's all I got for now.

Trevor McFur said...

I have to say, I'm REALLY shocked that they killed Alex like that.

mb said...

I am officially changing the name of tonights episode to "The Shape of What the Fuck?!?"

WTF?!? - Ben is laying in the middle of the Sahara all shaken up?!?

WTF?!? - Claire survives an explosion the literal size of a house!

WTF?!? THAT MERCENARY FUCKHEAD KILLED ALEX?!?!? (that was harder for me to take than I would have thought - REALLY hate Keemy now)

WTF?!?! Smokey can be summoned!
LOVED LOVED LOVED this scene!

Loved it, loved it, loved it, what a roller coaster this episode was.

RE: Ben arriving in the desert - I assumed he arrived via "magic box" or Casamir effect or wormhole or something along those lines. The first second or two of the shot on his face you can see he's more than shaking, it looks to me like he's BEING shaken, and there's some audio like a rumble.
I'm trying to think what else would he be doing on his back in the middle of the desert looking a bit shaken like he just got dropped there?

Palmer's right - Danielle HAS TO kill the ever living FUCK out of Keemy!

I'm assuming that Widmore saying that the island is and WAS his means that he was partially or completely behind the Hanso Foundation and Dharma - i.e. he funded both?

Also loved the Widmore/Ben scene - the two powers meet.

Good good stuff!

(re-poet from last thread)

I just want to apologize to any spoiler-loving blogspotters for having been absent from updating the SPLOG and for not putting out a podcast during the break - the spoiler seg shall return within the week.

mb said...

re-poet = re-post (duh)

mb said...

Oooh - why was Widmore having nightmares?

mb said...

oh - forgot about

WTF?!? - Ben (or Sayid?) is going to kill Penny?!?

although - Sayid saw Penny's picture didn't he? He would know about Des and her. If that storyline comes about, I really hope that is where he'd draw the line with Ben. It would make for good drama.

Then would Ben just do it himself? Would he go that far?

memphish said...

Good Morning! A few thoughts before I go computer shopping.

Trevor -- I agree they need to figure out what to do with Sawyer. His lines make him sound like a dumbass.

Denass -- I agree that Ben having something to do with Nadia's death is as likely as Widmore having ordered it. Again, Ben's the one with the picture and that's easier to get if you hired the guy. And how Alias like was that scene in the bazaar?

I still can't over them killing Alex like that. I guess Ben's going to have to get Penny because I don't think Sayid would do it, even for Nadia because of what he knows from Desmond.

So where could Widmore get Penny to hide? Has he finally told Penny what's going on? And what is causing Widmore's nightmares? And how many years of Desmond's salary has he drunk in order to sleep?

Is it next Thursday yet?

I done some open-mouthed viewing there.

Smooth move on director Jack Bender's part in finding the perfect image to stick his credit up in front of. That'll go on his showreel.

Freighties have that selected shooting thing going on which means they can't hit regular characters for toffee. Either that or they're equipped with Rando-Radar. Sawyer shooting away and hiding behind picnic tables, though, further cements my opinion that he should be a front runner for the role of Snake if they make a Metal Gear Solid film.

Also, note "Halliwax" on Ben's jacket with the new DHARMA logo. He must have nicked it off of Marvin Candle.

Lostpedia people say that the guys who encounter Ben in the desert remark that he hasn't left a trail, that it looks like he just dropped out of the sky.

Finally, being able to SUMMON the smoke monster and being able to CONTROL it are not the same thing. You just have to know where not to stand.

So, after all the confusion - how many more of those are there to come this year?

Stephanie said...

Dang it, Chris. I was just about to discuss the name Halliwax on the parka. It must be cold in the wormhole. Ben's first breath was vapor. Which doesn't really make sense since vapor is created when your warm breath meets the cold air. Why would his breath be vapor?

Trevor McFur said...

The only thing that I can think of, is that it's something to do with the Portugese guys from the end of S2.

Stephanie said...

Yeah, the wormhole takes you through the North Pole or the island is actually at the North Pole which would explain all the "Ho"s in the premiere.
Widmore changed the rules? He took the competition to another level? I have the feeling this war has been going on for a very long time. And will continue since the title is The Shape of Things to Come.
Something funny is my husband is starting to recognize and discuss the music cues.
Ben lied to Sayid about the way he got to the Middle East.

Rrb said...

It sucks people use spoilers as there ideas I swear I listened to a couple people saying they think that Ben and Widmore are playing a game..Yes it's sorta incospicious. But a big reach..In my mind at least with out some sort of forward thinking via spoilers..

Back from the Apple store the proud owner of a new iMac. I'll be shutting down here in a second to hook up, though file transfer won't be complete until next week because I'm lazy and I'm going to get the Apple store to do it for me. Plus then I can blame them when something of Hubby's is all of a sudden "missing." Not that I'd do that. Right.

If anyone ever needs to buy anything at an Apple store and needs help -- be sure to get an appointment online. Otherwise, good luck.

Steph, I cannot believe you've got that Kate photo as your avatar. She annoys me to no end these days.

Good question about what time Ben came from. He arrives in 10/24/2005, but when did he come from? And why alone?

I was thinking the same thing. The shooters seemed to have perfect aim to shoot those no-name people, but when it comes to Sawyer they can't get him?

Where does one buy a bulletproof picnic table, anyway?

I kinda loved how Sawyer got all protective of Hurley and Claire. So sweet. So not the Sawyer previously known, but eh, whatever.

Ok, not asking anyone to give anything away, but do you think we're going to find out another Oceanic Six next week?

Ugh, Kate. What with the headband and that top, she looked decidedly on the prowl for sick doctors...and smiling for like, a whole episode? Seemed unnatural.

Oh, and go Bernard for knowing morse code! Yeah!

The only thing that I can think of, is that it's something to do with the Portugese guys from the end of S2.

They were Brazilian, not Portugese. Brazilians speak a dialect of Portugese (former colony of Portugal) known as Brazilian Portugese. Most notable difference is the pronunciation of D more closely resembles the English pronunciation of J.

Alirio said...

As for Ben's time-travel...

I think his FLASH FORWARD all took place the time he was in his secret room's secret room!

That's my theory and I'm sticking to it...

mb said...

I like that theory a lot Alirio!

Except, did he have the wound on his shoulder right before he went into the secret chamber? I suppose the wound could have happened when he landed in the desert or something.

Trevor McFur said...

Frak the Habs.

That's a neat theory, but then what about the parka (the Dharka!)?

[ally] said...

Excellent theory, MB! Makes sense. Which is more than I can say for the episode, which had me confused the whole time.

I (heart) Lost!

Rrb said...

Hell no He went and sent smokie loose Ben was a MAD..He went and time traveled later on after he ...(enter PUN here ?) I love Secret/Secret Rooms who the hell thinks of that shit f'n priceless

memphish said...

My favorite arm injury theory is that to travel this way your arm is hooked up to something and can get injured, especially if you're in a hurry. I think this is how Candle lost his arm.

Question about the Mac keyboard -- how do I copy text? There's not an insert key to do Ctrl-Insert.

Holli

[ally] said...

Dharka! I love it!

Maybe the Dharka is like a spacesuit for The Others.

[ally] said...

Command (Apple) C, then Command V.

Or, since the macs don't have a right click. I hold down the control key and click, it gives the "right click" options.

[ally] said...

that was my inner geek in that last post.

Rrb said...

OO ya and Ben could give two sht's about Locke Hurley's the key.Locke's still little puppet boy:(

Alirio said...

Holli

For keyboard shortcuts on a Mac substitute the Apple key (officially named the Command key but there is a picture of an Apple on it) for Ctrl.

Apple + C = Copy
Apple + V = Paste

etc.

As for the arm wound and Parka... That basically ruins my theory UNLESS he took a side trip to the antarctic observation station manned by those two Brazilians.

Halliwax's Parka was the only one left in the Dharma Parka closet and he hurt his arm by obsessively scratching an itch like a neurotic cat...

Ha! Try and debunk that blogspotters!

PS The words Brazilian and Wax are way to close together in the above re-theory aren't they...

elias said...

That was good.

I think Ben leaves the island in a hurry sometime in the next month or two and lands in the Sahara a year or so later. And how he took down the 2 Bedouin - classy.

Indeed, Kate is a saucy minx.

memphish said...

Thanks for the Apple advice. Looks like they've gone "command"-o. Instead of an apple on the key, it says command and has this other symbol.

Mac Shortcuts

I hope that helps Holli. I know it'll be confusing at first, but you'll pick it up in no time.

PalmerEldritch said...

kenneth taylor, enjoyed your LOST rap. fun stuff.

as for teleportin' ben, methinks he has not pulled a dharma polar bear quite yet. he'll do that in a bit though. i think his secret room in the secret room was just him destroying the sonic fence. not going to the future to turn Sayid into a lean, mean killin' machine.

mb said...

Congrats on the iMac Holli - I'm officially jealous ;)

And re: right clicking for Mac - you can use a two button mouse with a Mac (and have all the usual right-button functions I think). Some mice I've seen have drivers to install to make all their functions function, but the two button mouse I use works fine by just plugging it in (its a Logitech mouse).

Actually - don't the iMacs come with the "Mighty Mouse" (with the tiny scroll wheel)?
That has a right and left button (doesn't look like it but it IS two button).

memphish said...

MB, There is the wheel. It's comfortable. When I push it the Dashboard pops up, and I think you can stick stuff you use a lot on the dashboard. Right now I've got date, time, weather and calculator. There's also 2 buttons on the side which unlayers things on the desktop when I get it crazy crowded.

I signed up for the One to One training. It gives me the option to have them set up my computer although right now I'm sticking my music in iTunes myself because I just can't wait. But it also gives me (and the Hubby) 52 1 hour lessons which even means having them edit film, make a scrapbook, record, edit and send mp3 comments for me. I'm looking forward to it. I used to do software training back in the pre-law school days, so I'm looking forward to learning some new cool stuff.

Stephanie said...

Hey! There's a guy on Jay and Jack's podcast who sounds like me!

andrew. said...

- Risk, the most infuriating game on the planet.

- Lost has trained me well, I noticed the "Halliwax" nametag immediately, so i just assumed he came from the Orchid station.

- Ben once again displayed the Others' uncanny ability at martial arts when he took out the two horseback dudes. At this point they're either going to have to show a flashback of Ethan, Juliet & Ben hardcore training or show them jacking into the matrix.

- The flashforward was interesting. Even though I thought I recognized it as Nadia's funeral, I kept thinking it was a flashback and that Ben was spying on our future lostie.

- I guess the Oceanic 6 don't get off the island through the magic box because Sayid is surprised that Ben managed to get off the island, and Ben lies to him about it.

- yeah, Kate was on the prowl tonight, putting the flirt on Jack & practically smothering Daniel. I'm pretty sure all of the smiling with Daniel was just a set up so that she could make the most sour expression ever when Bernard called him out for lying.

- What's with the family dentist knowing morse code?

- sucked to be a log-carrier in this episode. Handsome Jack should count himself lucky.

- It was shocking to see Alex get capped in the head like that. They dispatched the dysfunctional island family with very little fanfare. I hope the actress takes the opportunity to grab a meal or two.

- When Ben went into his secret-secret room, I also thought he was getting his time travel on, but the fact that he seems to have unleashed smokie makes it too complicated for him to have done both.

- I agree that Ben seems to have summoned/unleashed the smoke monster more than controlled it. That scene was really well done, very horror movie in the way it was directed.

- The Widmore exchange was very interesting. He said something to Ben like "I know who you are" in a tone that suggested that Ben was special somehow. For some reason, Peter Pan popped in my head.

- I'm thinking that Widmore was somehow tied into the Dharma Project, because I can't think of a way other than the purge in which Ben could "steal" the island from Widmore.

- I think Sawyer stepping up against Locke & Ben was his new role taking effect. He's taking the leadership role, and I, for one, would follow the dude that can take on a team of mercenaries with just a pistol & can effectively avoid fully automatic machine gun fire running behind picket fences & picnic tables.

- I don't know why, but I liked the red herring of Claire getting blown up. I'm usually mad when the writers make obvious attempts to fake us out, but, like Desmond telling Charlie he was going to die, Kate ending up with Aaron sort of sets up the other shoe waiting to drop.

- I really don't understand the doctor washing up & Daniel saying he was fine. Dan was caught lying later, but making the doctor's dead body into more of a mystery than it was seems like a bad lie. So i have to assume that the doctor really is alive & well on the boat which kind of screws with how I thought the whole time dilation thing was working.

- I'm ready for the freighter 4 to start doing whatever it is they set out to do on the island since i figure Miles didn't land to play 3rd wheel to Locke's party, Daniel didn't set out to build a telegraph, and Charlotte didn't plan on just giving WTF reaction shots for her whole tour.

- Hooray LOST!

What a week. 100 mile commute for training. Good thing I had some good podcasts to listen to.

Anyway,

does anyone else think that Charles Widmore might be Jacob? A version of Charles Widmore that exists between places. That's why Ben can't kill him.

I've got my mind wrapped around this concept, but I haven't worked through all of the possibilities of this theory. At least we know now that you can exist in 2 places at one time because of The Doctor washing up on shore, and alive and well on the freighter at the same time.

memphish said...

Interesting Jon. I like it.

memphish said...

Jon, what about the idea that Widmore can't find the Island though. How would that work with him being also trapped on the Island?

scrdmnkydst said...

Dunno if it's been mentioned. But did anybody else think that Michael was the one who slit the doctor's throat before he landed on the island... maybe that'll come up on future episodes..

Jordan said...

So I just watched Lost today. Whoa. That was a weird episode.

I know somebody already mentioned it. But just what exactly did Ben mean when Widmore asked him if he came to kill him? Ben replied, "We both know I can't do that." And what's with Ben freaking about about "the rules changing"? Weird stuff.

I'm not exactly sure if I'm overly thrilled with this new Ben vs Widmore course the show seems to be taking. I don't care what anybody says. There is NO WAY in hell that this was what they originally intended during the first couple seasons of the show. It's as if the main lostaways are all now side characters. It's still extremely fascinating. Just seems very forced to me.

Speaking of forced. From here on out this season, I am going to be thinking to myself while watching, "I bet you that was that way because of the strike and the writers having to condense storylines". The first thing that stood out to me as such was the manner in which Alex was killed off. Obviously it was intended for her to be killed. So as to set up the whole Ben going after Penny storyline that we now have. But it just seemed weird to me in it's execution. Not that Alex was a huge character by any means. But Lost doesn't normally just out of nowhere pop a character without a huge emotional reaction. Yeah, Ben went up to her later and cried. But on the whole just something about it felt rushed to me. To kill Alex that soon after killing Karl and supposedly Rousseau kinda took away from the shock/effect of it all.

Kinda interesting to see that it was Sayid who wanted to be Ben's hitman, and not the other way around. I agree with whoever said that it felt as if Nadia's death was brushed under the rug. Again probably because of the lost episodes. I feel like we should get used to a lot less exposition than we are used to in these final ep's of season 4.

Back to my comment about being a bit weird about the story focusing so much on Ben and Widmore now over the other lostaways. So many of the "main" cast have been nothing more than ancillary characters of late. Kate, Sawyer, Sun & Jin. Claire is officially now nothing more than somebody who holds and worries about Aaron.

But all my gripes aside, a very interesting, thought provoking, entertaining ep. I would like it a bit more if things weren't so much "The Ben Linus Show". But it's definitely not boring, right?

Jordan said...

I officially challenge Andrew to a wordy blog post-off.

So are we trusting Miles at all right now? He sure has made it a point to try his best to blend in.

When Faraday was morse coding with the freighter and the person on the freighter said that the doctor was ok. Was that some kind of code? A cover up? Or is the crazy weird time shifting or whatever it is so messed up, that the doctor is dead on Lost island and still alive on the boat?

I feel really bad for saying this. But I am really not a fan of Charlotte's face.

So the dude who killed Alex is now officially the new Pickett/Ryan. Can't wait to see what gratifying way to kill him the writers come up with.

Pretty sad when you think about how Alex died. The last words she heard was her "father" denouncing her and calling her a pawn in his game.

Rousseau can't be dead, right? She just can't have died with that little fanfare, right? Maybe she is going to be the new Mikail?
