MB, there's nowt for you to be ashamed for, it's well known that for the final season Cuseloff have put a massive crackdown on the spoiler leaks. It's not your fault or anything!

I have to clean my house now.

17 days and I have seasons 3-5, plus another few season 2 episodes to go on my 2nd re-watch of the hiatus...

Yeah, I'm really obsessed.

Loved the Losties!

JoeSC said...

Holli - 17 days to finish Season 1 is nothing. The first time that I rewatched it with my wife, we made it through Season 1 in 3 days! It's more than feasbile!

memphish said...

I'm sure I've watched it that fast in the past, but this will be either my 4th or 5th viewing of S1 (I've lost track), so I'm not sure I'll desire to powerview. The main thing will be getting started. I'm sure once I'm watching I'll be okay. It's deciding I'm ready to start that's the problem.

huzzah! listened to TLI last night. fantastic. good to have our old friends back. oh, how we missed them.

my LOST rewatch died a horrible death in season 2. oh well. it's almost season 6 so i'll watch part of the recap and then watch the premiere.

speaking of premieres, 24 premiere tomorrow night. apparently, not only did Starbuck make it to Earth, but it looks like she's got a job in CTU/theFBI/whatever. also, to connect it to LOST, she'll be joined by Freddy Prinze Jr from that show our DVRs always caught the last 30 seconds of before LOST!

Stephanie said...

Freddie Prinze, Jr or Mr Buffy.

I still have not seen Pepsi Throwback anywhere. I'm in LA. So it's not like I'm in a weird market that might not get it.

I'm watching the Colts/Raven game (I time shifted) and a Pepsi Throwback commercial just came on.

Anonymous said...

Also. . . haven't heard the show yet so can't comment or respond to comments re TLI.

What's everyone's favorite Lost episode?

I can't decide between "Live Together Die Alone" and "Flashes Before Your Eyes." "The Constant" was pretty good too.

Kyle from Kentucky said...

Tough Question.

Walkabout hands down.

Greatest Hits isn't really highly rated but the last 10 minutes makes me tear up every time. All the Finales but especially LTDA and TTLG.

All Desmond and Ben episodes are great and most Locke episodes are great.

3 least favorites?
3 - Eggtown
2 - Stranger in a Strange Land
1 - Expo....nope I hated Something Nice Back Home like I can't even describe.

Kyle from Kentucky said...

Morgan said...

Best episode: The Constant.

Worst 5 episodes: SOS, Stranger In A Strange Land, Everybody Hates Hugo, Dave, Further Instructions.

Pepsi Throwback is pretty awesome! I've had variations of it over the years in other countries (Mexico, UK) and I think the real difference for me is that slightly syrupy/slimy coating on the tongue after drinking it, and of course the difference in sweetness (not more sweet, just a different kind of sweet). I've only seen it in 12-packs at my local Target (in central Mass.).

Kyle from Kentucky said...

Emerson loses to John Lithgow for best supporting actor? Really?

Hopefully LOST will dominate the Emmys after the final season.

I heard the girl presenting with Matty Fox say he missed rehearsals because he walked to the wrong side of her or whatever. The man is busy in Hawaii doing work mam.

andrew. said...

no disrespect to Emerson. i'm a big fan. But Lithgow was awesome on Dexter, totally brought that show back to life.

memphish said...

Anyone watch 24 last night? Anyone recognize Horace Goodspeed before he went all Bronx-accent vs. Russian-accent? I didn't.

I hear Lithgow was excellent on Dexter so I won't hold a grudge as I like that show though I'm 2 seasons behind due to Netflix failing to stream them and me being too cheap to get Showtime. Sometimes strangling one man and shooting another and stabbing a third just isn't enough.

Kirk,

You have to do some things on the PC. The binder is something on the website.

I'm on the second semester. The videos are pretty cool. I understand now why there was not as much included in this season. Seems that the content for LU is what took up a lot of the space.

Watched (and enjoyed) The Golden Globes, but they seemed strange this year to me. Mainly I think b/c I haven't kept track of what's come out in 2009 very well so not only had I not seen a lot, but I hadn't even HEARD of a bunch of films/shows. Sad but true.

Also - was "It's Complicated" really good or something? 3 nominations including Best Motion Picture - Comedy Or Musical?!? I guess I'd just read reviews that gave it middle-of-the-road/3 out of 5 stars ratings.

Sad Michael Emerson lost to Lithgow, but from everything I've heard/read, if he was going to lose, this made sense b/c Lithgow is really good in Dexter.

Liked Ricky Gervais as well as the NBC-slamming that was going on. The direction (of the show) though was.... I don't know what was going on but I can't remember seeing that many f**k-ups in one show. Flashframes, wrong people in shots, whip-pans - there are often a few of these but after about the 5th f-up within the first 2 hrs. I was starting to get pretty amused. Is my memory bad and this happens most years?

Finally saw Avatar on Saturday! Really enjoyed it - even despite sitting in row TWO. I think I may try and see it again just so I can sit farther back. Incredible feast for the eyes - just gorgeous. The story was not the most subtle thing I've ever experienced (a Facebook friend described it more emphatically than I would - "like a rock hitting me in the face...again, and again, and again) but it pounded home a message that I liked, and I thought Zoe Saldana was good. I also really enjoyed the conception of Pandora and the Na'vi home (won't go into any more description so as not to spoil). Overall, the visual achievement of this film overpowered the things it lacked for me. I'm starting a thread on the boards to continue talking here so I don't start spoiling.

Chris JC said...

I watched "Squeeze", the X Files episode today so also saw Horace Goodspeed, but crawling through air vents and trying to rip out Scully's liver with his bare hands.

(I'm still on it, Steph! Sorry for the delay!)

scrdmnkydst said...

When's the next losties?

scrdmnkydst said...

This io9 post about Lost is very interesting. It's not spoilery at all, in fact, it has some british teaser videos where Cusellof give some fake spoilers. Pretty funny. And there's an absolutely gorgeous trailer for season 6 by an Israeli tv channel which is just as good as that Spanish Chess trailer.

AH! Holli got to it before I did.

Stephanie said...

I didn't enjoy the Golden Globes at all. I don't think I like Ricky Gervais anymore. Maybe due to the "religious people are ignorant" vibe he gives off. I've heard all his Conan jokes this week on The Tonight Show. He just was not funny to me.
Very few of my picks won. If Avatar wins the Academy Award, I will just die.
MB, I haven't heard anything good about It's Complicated. I think some 50 year-olds might enjoy it.
Thanks, Chris. We've been preoccupied with Netflix lately. But getting back into X Files is something I've been looking forward to.

PalmerEldritch said...

MB, stop posting spoilers as your theories! ;)

that Onion video is excellent.

jon, thanks for the heads up on LOST U. now, i'll have something to do at work. zing!

Avatar? Avatar? It just looks so preachy and un-original. And the Navi look fruckin' stupid. But the Navi CGI looks really good. Really good CGI of a horrible design. No real desire to see it other than "i'm missing out on special effects." blargh.

also, James Cameron has consistently come off as a douche for a number of years. real control freak. and a jerk to his ex-wives. and i'm still mad at him for that awful Spider-man script he wrote in the 90s. ugh.

memphish said...

I've heard a lot of people who liked It's Complicated and some that I wouldn't have expected. Totally looks like a rental though.

PalmerEldritch said...

that's a pretty great pic, mb. hope that makes it into a yearbook some day.

today kind of blows. it's like a monday disguised as a tuesday. wtf?

Jordan said...

Steph, Whatever you do. Don't see The Invention of Lying. Mainly cuz it's terrible. But also,
the entire movie is Gervais saying how stupid religion and the bible is. Given that he co-wrote the movie, that is not surprising at all. If you've ever listened to his old podcasts, he is a staunch athiest. And loves to talk about it. Doesn't bother me too much. But I can see how it could turn off some.

As for the Golden Globes. Ugh & Blech. I watched maybe 20 min of it and was bored out of my mind. Hollywood congratulating itself. Yawn. About the only good thing from it, apart from Gervais insinuating that the awards were bought (which I think they are), was the fact that they didn't serve the celebs any food. Just nothing but alcohol. Saw a couple interviews with Harrison Ford and Meryl Streep from afterward, and both were pretty tanked.

I recently saw Avatar finally. Saw it in IMAX 3D. Which I must say definitely adds to the experience. The story is a dime a dozen as everyone has said. The characters for the most part are entirely one-dimensional (the blue chick being the lone exception). And the dialogue was at times cring worthy. All that said, I had a really fun time. The story wasn't bad enough that I couldn't say "whatever" to it and just have fun. The adventure elements mixed with the effects were nearly worthy of all the epic hype. Palmer, if you have an IMAX near you, I'd suggest seeing it simply for the experience. Otherwise, you're prob ok with your lack of desire to see it. I really don't get all the insane gushing that's gone one. The crazy people who are claiming to be depressed because they have to now cope with the fact that living on Pandora is unattainable. And really Golden Globe? Really? And they say they aren't for sale. Ha!

Back to the Globes real quick. I really dislike them as an awards show. Forget the fact that it's boring as all get up. I hate how they split up all the categories. Why do musicals and comedies go together? And why do they only separate between comedy and drama in certain categories? Neil Patrick Harris should've been up against the comedy guys (and have beat Alec Baldwin), instead of competing with John Lithgow and Michael Emerson. When will Doogie get the recognition he deserves?! He's hilarious on HIMYM. And why does Alec Baldwin always get nominated for lead actor in a comedy? His role on 30 Rock is entirely supporting. How do Big Love and True Blood get nominated for best drama and Breaking Bad, the best drama on tv (Mad Men included), gets entirely ignored?! Why am I complaining about the stupid Golden Globes which I think suck? And wtf is with the Entourage and Jeremy Piven obsession?! I think the show is stupid. But even the biggest supporters of that show admit it sucks now. Back to Gervais' awards and noms can be bought theory. I give you Entourage. Good day.

mb said...

The crazy people who are claiming to be depressed because they have to now cope with the fact that living on Pandora is unattainable

SERIOUSLY?!?! I had not heard that. Wow - that's 100% crazyballs

And I must agree on the Golden Globe win - I enjoyed the movie, but no - not Best Motion Picture or 2009. I suppose I ought to SEE the Hurt Locker but I'm willing to put money down sight unseen that it's more deserving.

Let me re-iterate that I did ENJOY Avatar though. A thrill ride (like a roller coaster) is the best way to describe it I think. But when it's over, not a lot sticks with you.

JoeSC said...

Holli - I didn't pick up on the fact that was Horace either until the same moment you did. He plays a pretty awesome bad guy! I don't care what anyone says. I think 24 is still a great f'n show.

Palmer - Don't worry, I haven't seen Avatar yet either. It would probably be easier to muster up the motivation to see it if it was a tad shorter. I've been burned by long movies before!

mb - You have to read about these Avatar viewers that went depressive / suicidal about not being able to live on Pandora. I have about as much sympathy for these folks as I do for those in rehab for internet addiction.

When's LOST back? Oh yeah, T-MINUS TWO WEEKS! Nice to see our personal countdown timer is still operational. Thanks Kyle!

Stephanie said...

ralph-!!

Jordan said...

Ralph's new nickname needs to be "Utter Chaos".

And MB is right. Avatar is definitely more of a rollercoaster ride than great movie. Especially in IMAX 3D.

Kyle, I love that profile photo. I hardly ever look at the comments with the photos. I'm clearly missing out.

My S1 rewatch is flying by. I'm through The Moth in all of 2 days. It's interesting how little exposition they used in the early episodes and how much more music they used.

One of my big gripes about S5 would be how many times they showed us the same scenes over and over like that stupid scene at the pier. It was like they didn't expect us to remember anything from week to week. I hope they do in fact return to the S1 give it to you, but don't spell it out mode.

Holli

scrdmnkydst said...

I think the reason that so many scenes from season 5 were shown numerous time was because of the people who are just casual viewers. They may not have seen every week, so might have missed something, then the scene being reshown can help them get back to speed again.

It could also be that due to the high level of time-fuckery in season 5, that some people may have had trouble putting pieces together, so the editors put the scenes in just to give them a nudge in the right direction.

memphish said...

Listening to the commentaries I think you're 2nd theory is right Ryan. Basically the writers thought we weren't smart enough to remember where everyone started before they got on 316 so they showed it over and over and over.

Holli

scrdmnkydst said...

Aye. I concur Holli.

For the record, can I just say that I actually quite like season 5 as a whole? It's totally not the best season, by a long shot... but it's certainly better than season 2, in my opinion at least. Not that I'm saying that season 2 is not enjoyable...

Just with people saying that season 5 was gash, it makes me think that, just because it wasn't as good as some of the other season, it doesn't mean that it wasn't good anyways... It's much better than Heroes as well.

BOOBIES!

Sun really does get hotter every season.

@memphish Yea I've had that picture on my laptop background for years and had it as my iphone background for a long time too. My iphone password is 0815. I think that picture is the defining moment of LOST for me. Locke was the man back in the old days. Then after the button was introduced he has been going back and forth between being the man and a tool for some time. Nobody deserves redemption more. I hope like hell that his character's endgame was not to be just used by MIB. Hopefully he is reincarnated or something at just the right moment or hopefully John Locke is down in there somewhere and MIB will have an internal struggle with him at a pivotal point. The only thing that could disappoint me a great deal is if this special thing with Locke was a big let down and he is meant for nothing else than being a substitute body for MIB. The only way they could spin that and I would accept it is if we are just told to believe that the role of John Locke was to make Jack a believer. I would be ok with that.
