ONLY reason I watched the damn show was hoping this would happen :) Very happy he got it. Now if he could be just a LITTLE warmer in the acceptance speech Maybe he was just staying in character - lol

memphish said...

Emerson's acceptance speech was an award show director's dream--short, sweet and to the point.

Last night I won a Yummy - it's an edible award in the shape of a delicious meal.

It was a Yummy in the category of most entire completeness ever.

I think I'm gonna do a KJ style Blogspot and Twitter double post.

PalmerEldritch said...

yeah, he seemed nervous. or something.

ended up being a little creepy. but that's probably because we're all scared of Ben Linus.

Stephanie said...

He did seem uncharacteristically nervous. But gracious.
The Emmy's were great this year thanks to NPH's hosting. If you get a chance look up the video of Dr Horrible taking over the Emmy's. John Hodgman's color commentary was hilarious. The only award that completely disappointed me was Jon Cryer beating several great actors for supporting in a comedy. BSG actually got a small amount of screentime. Awesome.

PalmerEldritch said...

i did think a bit about watching the Emmys. but only because NPH was hosting.

nice to see Michael Emmy-rson get and award. talented dude.

also, he was pretty f'n awesome at comic con.

Better video of the win

Indeed - too true - lol

All right Blogspot, what's shaking? Clearly not this place.

For anyone interested in the least bit of LOST content you can enroll in LOST University over on the ABC Lost site. It's basically just something to market the Blu-Ray; there's nothing new, but you can test your knowledge of LOST arcana in the admission test. I got 22/23 questions. Missed the one about the Swan Mural. Guess I need to get back on that S2 rewatch.

Is anyone still watching Heroes? Just wondering if it in any way, shape or form is decent. Greg Grunberg's tweets cannot be trusted. Yowza!

In more Monday night TV news How I Met Your Mother was adorable and funny last night. It put me in such a good mood. I started watching Big Bang Theory this summer. It's pretty funny. Last night wasn't great, but it was good.

Finally if you need a gift, Cake Wrecks has come out with a book.

I watched Heroes. It went all Veronica Mars / Carnivále

PalmerEldritch said...

is Heroes worth watching on the DVR sometime this week?

scrdmnkydst said...

Yeah, if you want to see the guy who played Darth Maul (I NOW KNOW SOME STAR WARS STUFF, you lot proud?) play with a bunch of knives really fast and see Ali Larter get her face sliced off.

Oh and t-bag has an irish accent now.

scrdmnkydst said...

OMG

I just found out that Michael Emerson's wife plays Arlene in True Blood. This is probably common knowledge... but i'm still shocked. I love Arlene.

Stephanie said...

I thought I watched Heroes last night at work but I got home and discovered 2 hours on my DVR. No wonder I thought it was bad. I have a feeling if I hadn't of deleted it and tried to watch the first half, I wouldn't think any differently. For me, that show is too far gone.
HIMYM was soooo sweet. Except for Ted. Misspelling professor was cute but that's about it. Can we vote him off?
Big Bang- as I discussed with Ryan last night, I am not a fan. Too repetitive. Wolowitz is my favorite though.
I missed Castle and the DVR didn't get it. My worst fear. Good thing the second DVR arrives any minute.
Mad Men- Oh my God. Amazing.
I've still yet to see Sunday's ADBC with Ducky Does TV and Give Me My Remote in the audience.

Stephanie said...

Oh! And Bored to Death. I liked it. My kind of humor.

Jordan said...

Spent the weekend in San Francisco. Drove down and back, actually. Just got home last night. For the first time in ages, my DVR is full of stuff to watch. Here's what I need to catch up on:

Curb Your Enthusiasm
Bored to Death
The Office
Parks and Recreation
Community
It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia
The Soup
Mad Men
How I Met Your Mother
Heroes(?) - I can't look away for some stupid reason.

Holy crap. I need to get to watching before I get even further behind!!

wassup, 'spotters?

did i already ask this? if Sweet Richie Alpert ends up being a part of the crew of the Black Rock, does that mean he's a slaver? cuz that's a dick move, right there. or would he be the guy locked up in the brig cuz he didn't like slavery?

will he end up being Magnus Hanso?

or is not from the Black Rock so we can avoid all that?

and did he appear to Ben as a hippie/pirate when Ben was a kid just cuz the Others sometimes like to disguise themselves?

memphish said...

I think hippie Alpert is just Others Playacting 101. Any other explanation would just be too laborious at this point. As for the Black Rock, pretty heartless if he a slave escaped and left the rest of comrades in arm shackles to rot in the boat. I figure he's the first mate that wrote the journal Widmore bought in The Constant. It'd be cool if he was a cabin boy and we actually saw him age from a teenager until the point where Jacob stops him from aging.

This week has stunk. I've been stuck at home with a child with a fever. We hoped it was gone today, but no, it's back, which means no school tomorrow either. And now I have the cough which seems to accompany this illness. It's awful. Wash your hands blogspotica.

Watched most of the tv shows I had on the dvr. Here are some random thoughts:

* Gay penguin wedding on Parks & Rec. Brilliant. lol.

* They really seem to have figured out Amy Poehler's character on P&R. Similar to Michael Scott, Leslie Knope is much better when she is semi-likeable.

* Andy Bernard's Brad Pitt fantasy. Hahaha.

* Liked the Community pilot. Was a bit different than I expected. A bit more heart and not as slapsticky. Think it might be a keeper.

* Not so sure about Bored to Death. Seems to have promise. And I like the premise along with the actors involved. But the show seemed just off a tad. Something that dry has to be dead on, otherwise it doesn't work. I read that the 2nd ep is a lot better.

* While not the best ep's ever. Just nice having Curb and HIMYM back. Both show's made me laugh and smile.

Steph, probably the best thing to do is check my facebook pictures. i am going to start adding text to the pictures today.

Jordan said...

Surprised this hasn't been talked about.

Not all unanswered LOST questions will be answered in final season.

I say good. Because I don't give a crap about a lot of the ones some of the more obsessed internet fans make such a big deal out of. Lot of that crap isn't exactly essential to the story.

Jordan said...

Andrew will like this bit of info that came from that Q&A with the writers (the one that was at a festival I attended, but didn't realize was taking place!!):

"Many faces from past seasons will appear in season six, including Charlie and possible Cindy (the flight attendant)."

Hey! The Wii's getting a price cut everywhere!

Well...

ALMOST everywhere.

Chris JC said...

Sorry, couldn't resist it. Other reports say there will be a bit of a price cut - but some of those moaning sods in the comments make me look almost bearable.

scrdmnkydst said...

But... don't you already have a wii? I do... so i don't care.

Chris JC said...

I do also, so I also don't care - I'm just taking the opportunity to mock myself. Frankly they could and always could have sold the machine for much more from launch.

I still can't get over the fact that the GameCube was £130 from launch - total bargain and still a lovely machine: best joypad ever.

scrdmnkydst said...

I still have three black gamecube controllers and one of those wireless wavebird pads which i got for free for subscribing to a magazine. I AM SO WIN

PalmerEldritch said...

a Wii for $199? hmm...

pretty inexpensive but i'm not a nintendo guy so i'm not sure that there'd be games i'd want to play on it.

xbox360 and ps3 are going to have motion controls... next year?

Stephanie said...

I think I have my Wii sold so hopefully I shall have my I mean Morgan should have a ps3 soon.

I tried out The Mighty Boosh. I don't think I get it. Might try another episode in case the one I saw was a dud.

I also tried Psych, as I told palmer. I found it really funny. But I think Shawn's schtick could get old, quick.

Cougar Town was just as good as I expected. For some reason I really relate to this even though I'm not in the market for a young boy.

Glee made me cry last night.

FlashForward tonight. Meh. Obvious Lost rip-off. I like Joseph Fiennes though.

Chris JC said...

That's from Boosh series 2. That was a show that suffered from diminishing returns. If you can find one, try one from series 1 - maybe "Bollo".

PalmerEldritch said...

psych should be pretty fantastic this week.

sometimes Shawn gets to be a bit too much but, for the vast majority of the time, his schtick does not get old.

Stephanie said...

Chris, the one I watched was about Vince in a wheelchair trying not to use his legs cause he needed to fit into stovepipe pants in order to sing with a group who's lead had just died. Also a famous avant garde director was coming into town and the other guy needed to get rid of his tendency to freeze so some weird, washed up actor took it from him. What series was that? That's the one airing on Adult Swim at the present.

memphish said...

Don't get the flu. It sucks ass. Been off the computer all day, that's how bad it is.

Last night's Glee made me done with it. It felt too High School Musical instead of Friday Night Lights. I like football too much so I was calling penalties during the entire game-ending scene, not to mention the entire defense had time to block that kick. I know, I know it's this altered reality, but I think it's just not for me.

I'm recording Flash Forward. I'm going to try to cut it some slack. Maybe I'll even bank a couple of episodes before getting into it. SEC football on tonight, so there's no way I'm watching anything else through my fever haze.

Holli

Chris JC said...

Steph - that's "The Chokes" from series 3. I'm not really a fan of that one.

To be honest I only really enjoy about 30% of the Boosh - all the Julian Barratt stuff. Once teenage girls got into it and it all became about the attractive one that girls liked and all his celebrity friends from bands nobody is cool enough to have heard of rather than the funny, clever, intelligent, musical one who did the jokes then I switched off a bit.

Stephanie said...

The guy trying to get into the stovepipes is supposed to be attractive? You mean THIS GUY? He is the most awkward actor I've ever tried to watch. It's just too bizarre for me.

Chris JC said...

He's liked by the kind of girls that think that just saying weird things is funny. In all fairness, Noel himself (for that is his name) thinks he's weird looking and has a funny nose.

Stephanie said...

He does have a funny nose but I don't have a problem with the nose.

Chris JC said...

Noel Fielding Fangirl Despair

Stephanie said...

Oh Holli, I forgot to say I'm sorry you're feeling ill. It always happens that way. Moms get it just when the kid is getting over it. Get better soon. Is it h1n1? Not that any doctors are trusting the test results.

memphish said...

We haven't been tested, so who knows what we've got. It's low-grade fever, wracking cough and runny nose. There's a fever and vomit bug also going around school, but we don't have that one. And lice. Ah, school.

How the hell did I miss Flash Forward?!? Actually, I would have had to watch it online anyway since the schedulers at ABC, NBC, Lifetime, FX, and FOX have conspired to put 80% of the programming me and my wife watch all on THURSDAY F-ING NIGHT!

This is why Comcast continues to wrest $150 from me each month for cable AND internet.

Morning blogspot! :)

Evening, MB.

A friend of mine will be on the fourth plinth in Trafalgar Square on Sunday morning for the One Other project (see that last link).

It'll be 6am here so really only those of you on the West Coast will be able to see and contribute without staying up too late (it was MB's post that reminded me of this).

She will have a whiteboard and will write anything tweeted or emailed to her during the hour. The details are here:

http://iamontheplinth.tk/>http://iamontheplinth.tk

Or you can watch her, and in fact anyone else who's been on - including the nude ones, at One and Other

- Hey Blogspot!
how're yinz doing?

- finishing out a very self-involved week here in Pittsburgh. It's funny how much this whole G-20 thing has taken over this city, & how little impact it's had on the rest of the world.
If you follow me on twitter, you probably think i've become delusionally paranoid because i'm seeing undercover cops everywhere, but the truth is that there are undercover cops EVERYWHERE here. Between the national guard, secret service, FBI and all of the regular police shipped in, the only population in Pittsburgh with bigger representation here are the obese.
The main skirmish between the police and protesters happened in my neighborhood, 2 blocks up, so that was a little surreal.
The good news is that the city is intact. The bad news is that the police presence was so overblown that riot squads showed up every time someone looked out their window and saw someone under the age of 50. There was also a very casual use of tear gas, sonic cannons, and rubber bullets for situations with no jeopardy.
It was a circus, and for the most part there is very little elephant dung to clean up.

- Catching up on Thursday TV:
* Most of NBC's line-up left me cold this week. I did like the Office, though it was nearly a drama.
* Always Sunny In Philadelphia was great! I just watched it a second time and it was even better.

- i'm going to start a letter writing campaign to make sure that Cindy returns to lost this season. maybe people should mail pilot-wings en masse.

- LOST!

Stephanie said...

I made Big Ed watch It's Always Sunny with me. He didn't like it. You have to give the show a few episodes to get it. The gang is just so dumb and mean. You can't understand it at first. The joke of this episode is that you knew they were never going to get to the Grand Canyon in the first place.

Psych has been added to my Friday night viewing.

Dollhouse is finally living up to it's potential. It's elevated past mediocrity.

Smallville- A trench coat has been added to Clark's wardrobe to simulate a cape waving in the breeze. Other than that, same old same old.

Modern Family- I decided to watch the Friday night repeat and am glad I did. It's very good.

Stephanie said...

Andrew.- were they using "barter" incorrectly on purpose? Because barter means to exchange. They were meaning haggle. I couldn't tell if it was supposed to be a joke or what.

Tonight, we get FlashForward on UK network TV which might be the fastest turnover time ever for a network.

On the other side, a different network will be showing True Blood (from the start) on October 7th, it having only shown on a subscription channel. Which is much more like we're used to.

Thoughts on some of the new/old shows that have been airing the past couple weeks:

* Really getting sick of The Office. As somebody on here said, the last episode was barely even a comedy. Not just that, it was annoying. Overly serious, career driven Jim annoys the shit outta me, and I want to see him punched in the face. Also tired of Michael and Dwight doing the exact same things over and over. Andy Bernard is the show's saving grace. 30 Rock can't come back soon enough.

* While it's nothing groundbreaking. I am quite enjoying Parks and Recreation. The writing is fun and goofy in the way The Office has forgotten how to be. They've really found Amy Poehler's character. Kinda like with Michael Scott early on in The Office, they realized that the lead character has to be somewhat likeable.

* Community and Modern Family both seem to be series-record worthy for the dvr. Modern Family is at times a bit too cute and safe when I want it to be a bit more edgy and Arrested Development-like. It's like it wants to be, and actually does every now and then. But the instant it does, it's very quick to rush back to something safe. But it's on ABC, so I guess you can't expect much more than it is. Tried watching Cougar Town. Didn't make it past 5 minutes. Don't think I'm it's target demo, nor does it seem particularly funny.

* Always Sunny in Philadelphia and Curb Your Enthusiasm are back and as good as ever. Gotta have your mean-spirited/edgy comedy to balance out the other stuff. The last Curb ep was really funny IMO. Seinfeld story arch begins next ep.

* Heroes. Why do I still watch? It's like I feel responsible to make sure it's still sucking. And that I've started it and should see it out til it's finish. Not that I watch that intently. Usually while on the computer or doing dishes or something more productive. The show keeps trying to give itself a clean slate, yet continues to do the exact same stories over and over. Hadn't realized that Bryan Fuller left the show minutes after he re-joined it last season. There clearly isn't a creative person working on that show. Kinda fun seeing T-Bag on it. But why does he have that weird effeminate Irish accent? Peter Petrelli is head and shoulders the #1 current character on tv that I want to die.

* Still have yet to watch Flashforward. Been meaning to. But EVERYWHERE I read about the show, all I see is, "Cool pilot, but how the heck can it continue as a series?" I'm very leary of blatantly obvious LOST wannabe's who lust over the devoted LOST audience. The Nine, anyone?

PalmerEldritch said...

jordan, pam and jim can get pretty gag inducing on The Office. ugh. but i haven't watched last week's episode yet. and, yeah, Parks and Recreation is hilarious lately.

havent watched Community's second episode yet. in fact, i didn't even DVR it. the pilot was... OK. has it gotten better?

havent watched Modern Family. is that Sofia Vergara i saw in the commercials? way to discover someone who's been around on Univision for over a decade, network TV.

i havent forced myself to watch Heroes yet. may or may not. i still feel compelled to at least read about what's happening.

it's a little like a person in an awful relationship who wont stop giving second chances.

is Heroes really ever going to be good again? or will it just more bad times than good? i want it to be good again but, deep down, i know it'll probably continue being mediocre with occasional flares up of stupidity.

yeah, flash forward doesnt jump out at me as a show that's going to be super terrific. i'm hoping it'll maybe find its feet in a few episodes. cool concept. so far, just not interesting beyond that concept.

of course, i've only seen one freakin' episode. so, maybe next week will shut me up.

giacchino's star trek score is really quite enjoyable. when does that movie come out on DVD/BluRay?

oh! downloading the Uncharted 2 multiplayer demo. w00t.

Oh yeah... belated Congrats to Emerson! I've been on the road the last couple of weeks, but this was the first time I've watched the Emmy's in years! Some didn't like the speech, but I thought it was humble, sublime and exactly what I would have expected from him!

Oh, and I guess I should give my belated take on the TV Season thus far...

The Office - Loved the first episode, hated the second episode.

Community - Loved the first episode, hated the second episode.

Fringe - Loved the first episode, hated the second episode.

Do I detect a pattern here?

This really doesn't bode well for Flash Forward tomorrow night!

On a side note, I dropped HBO from the cable a couple of months ago. I can't make up my mind whether or not it's worth it to resubscribe just for this season of Curb... Opinions?

Yes Palmer, you most certainly should. Last week's episode was hilarious. All about getting blow jobs while driving.

Back to the pic I just linked. Do you think those two are a pair? Or did just the one guy get that jersey so he can walk up to all the people with their new Sanchez jerseys (NY's new qb) and make that joke? If that's the case, the man is a comic genius. hahaha.

andrew. said...

i think it's a photoshop job, because whoever did it also changed the other jersey to a 6 so that there would be 6-6-6. (you can tell because big man's jersey says 5 on the sleeve)

andrew. said...

- pulled an all-nighter last night finishing some posters. I'm pretty cranky, but i finished and am happy with the results.

- It did give me time to catch up on some TV & Podcasts:

* Modern Family - was okay. better than most sitcoms. I approve of anything that gives Ed O'neill steady work. I probably won't watch it regularly though.

* Dollhouse - A good season opener, got the ball rolling on all fronts. i'm not wild about the Ballard story, should have cut him loose.

* Better Off Ted - caught some of the episodes that ABC decided to air randomly. They were both solid, and i hope ABC treats the show better this season. With the right hands-off approach it could become the new Scrubs with endless seasons.

- definitely stick with Curb Your Enthusiasm. After a ho-hum season opener, they killed it with the 2nd episode. same with Always Sunny In Philadelphia.

- Tonight the Daily Show is going to air the John Oliver segment where he interviewed protesters at the G-20 in Pittsburgh.
